We were looking for a relaxing vacation, and 12 nights aboard Grandeur of the Seas was perfect. The crew is the friendliest in the fleet! Cruise Maryland is a few hours from our home so we didn't have to fly. The staff at the port were friendly and efficient. We dropped off our luggage, and parked within a very short walk to the terminal. We were on the ship within 30 minutes of our arrival at the port. Love this port! We very much enjoy sea days along with the stops in St Thomas, Antigua, St Lucia, St Kitts, and St Martin. While you could see some evidence of hurricane damage in St Thomas & St Martin, those islands were very much open for business. The downtown area of Phillipsburg St Martin, including the boardwalk and beach area looked like pre hurricane. We did two excursions: Scenic St Lucia-we had a wonderful guide and toured the island. It was informative, and featured beautiful scenery. The St Kitts train excursion, however, was disappointing. The train had a terrible squealing noise to the point you couldn't hear the tour guide. The first part of the train trip (20 mins) offered views of abandoned junked cars. Following the train portion, the bus returned us to the port. However, it stopped 4 blocks from the port for a bathroom break. Everyone on the bus was tired and looked forward to the excursion being over. It was not a tour we would recommend. Grandeur doesn't have the big Broadway Productions like Oasis class, but had a great variety of entertainment. There were the Royal Caribbean singers & dancers, as well as comedians, ventriloquist, and a hypnotist. Two outstanding shows were Tango Buenos Aires, and a Beatles tribute band. Of course there were the typical "shows" by the Cruise Director's staff. We always enjoy "Finish that Lyric", "Dancing with the Stripes", Sing along with the officers, and trivia. There were great movies in the Theatre almost every afternoon. Dining was nice. Our wait staff was excellent. It is obvious that they are cutting back on the quality and selections in the MDR. Overall I much prefer the appetizers to the main entrée. We certainly didn't go hungry, and looked forward to meeting up with our tablemates each evening. Although our next cruise is aboard Allure, we wouldn't hestitate to sail Grandeur of the Seas again. Read Less

This cruise was a Christmas present for the two of us. We decided to do a 12-day cruise out of Baltimore as we live 20 minutes from the port. Embarkation and check-in was smooth and handled very professionally and pleasantly. We had a nice afternoon sitting in the Solarium and exploring around it (found the Park Cafe and got a delicious egg salad sandwich and chocolate chip cookies!). Once we got into our cabin, we found it very clean and comfortable. Our cabin attendant, Laura, was pleasant and greeted us cheerfully. Then on to dinner in the Main Dining Room, where we met our servers for the week - Lulana and Jess. Again - so delightful! When we mentioned that we are vegetarians and there was just one vegetarian option on the main menu, the maitre d' was happy to provide us with the vegan menu and made a note that we were to receive the Indian entree as well. So our food was amazing!! We often had breakfast in the MDR as well - and it was delightful! Best excursion was our catamaran sail/snorkeling trip in St. Thomas. The Stars and Strips crew was pleasant and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the complimentary beverages and lunch! I think we found the volcanic mud experience on St. Lucia to be our least delightful excursion. The trip across the island to the volcano was really pretty and the lunch at the restaurant selected by the excursion company. But the mud itself - meh. We had a grand time playing the Love & Marriage Game. We lost, but it was fun and the prizes we were giving to just go away were great! Also had fun with the Karaoke and the Finish the Lyric and the Beanbag Toss games in the Centrum! Possibly the highlight of the evenings was our visits to the Schooner Bar, where Mr. H crooned to us. Still humming Bed of Roses... All in all - what a great vacation. We enjoyed every minute thoroughly and will definitely be on another cruise as soon as we possibly can! Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was a 12 day and it was economical to cruise out of Baltimore. We stayed overnight the evening before the cruise at the Best Western on O'Donnell street. It was a great deal because they provide transportation to the port and back and parking for the length of the cruise. The shuttle service that the hotel uses (KD Elite Transportation is excellent. When we arrived at the port we were on the ship pretty quickly. We were enjoying a welcome aboard drink by 10:50 AM and in our room by 1 PM. We stayed in an ocean view stateroom on deck 2. Room 2050. We were pleased with all the storage in the room and found it quite comfortable. Yes it has the dreaded cloth shower curtain, but it was not a big deal. When the seas were rough we did not feel as much movement down in our room. Grandeur is a smaller ship and we like that. We really got to know many of the crew. The crew on this ship from Captain Ante down to our room attendant were especially friendly and good natured. We enjoyed having Captain Ante's children on the cruise too. We enjoyed all the dining options onboard. We did not go to the speciality restaurants but were very satisfied with the selections in the main dining room, Windjammer and Park Cafe. There was plenty of activities throughout the day and evenings. I went on RC excursions in St. Lucia and St. Kitts and enjoyed both. In Antigua I explored on my own. In St. Marten I used the water taxi to go to the beach. We rented a car in St. Thomas and went to Meagan's Bay and Red Hook and drove up to Paradise Point. It was a great day. I would definitely repeat this cruise. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. Read Less

We loved this boat. The staff are amazing. The food is great. The dining room service and buffet service are fantastic. The boat is clean, the rooms are clean. There are many activities. On the 3 ship days, you don't even notice bc you have so many activities to participate in. We really enjoyed this cruise and it's great value. The boat seems small, but it's the perfect size if you have kids bc you can actually find them if they wander off. The staff are really helpful. On the last day, we lost our son, and staff found him and let us know where he was within 5 minutes of looking for him. The children's center is a God send. We dropped off our son every night at 7:00 p.m. so we could have dinner and watch the show. It was at no extra charge. My son really enjoyed it there. The activities are well planned and fun. I highly recommend. Read Less

Service was Excellent, Staff was Prompt, the entertainment could use some Tinkering for here and there, but Overall the Service was Fantastic , Dining Room Staff was the Star of this Cruise, I could not believe the Dedication, and Promptness and overall satisfaction I got from this Cruising Experience, Stateroom was Immaculate, all the time, with the staff always in and out with the service you needed, all the halls and decks were always being cleaned or Managed, Bar Service was excellent. the Excursions were another highlight of the cruise for me the, meet and greet with the Dolphins was a once in a lifetime thing for me, the Island of Nassau was beautiful, the water was Bluer than the sky, See your feet in the water, Sights to behold, as Far as I Can tell, and last but not least the Crew, Captain and all of the Staff of the Grandeur of the Seas, the Cruise Experience was 5 Stars, A+ Quality, and I do look Forward to Booking My Next Cruise with Royal Caribbean. we chose this cruise because it was inexpensive and close to home. we were pleasantly surprised by many things. the grandeur is a relatively small and older ship (22), but it was in excellent condition with little evidence of her age. we were greeted by staff at the port and onboard the ship that appeared to genuinely want to please and who enjoyed their jobs. although conditions at coco cay prevented a landing and day on the beach the crew quickly made adjustments and provided alternative events on board to keep everyone happy. this is a real gem we will encourage our friends and neighbors to avail themselves of this adventure. my wife and I have traveled extensively. after many trips my wife has said ok been there and done that don't need to go back. not this time. instead she said we can go back and do this again, anytime. We go every year, but this was the first time we did the east coast. The Resturant was great. The shows was great also and the services was nice and the staff was really friendly. The ports that we went to was excellent, but we miss one port. Just didn’t like being on the ship cursing for 3 more days a total of 4, I didn’t like that. We cruise with friends and family every year and we always have fun when we do. This ship was real small compared to the others we have been on from Royal Carribean. We meet others from other states which is really great. It’s good when you can go cruising and don’t have to buy food cause its included in the price. They can change some things on the Grandeur of the Seas ship, cause it is really old. I wish them the best. Read Less

Excellent reviews. Despite rough seas, Captain Ante constantly kept us informed of the alternate route and what to expect. ALL crew members were wonderful and ready to assist at all times. Spa services met my every need. I had Kelly and she did a great job. My husband had four acupuncture treatments which helped his knee pain. We took the galley tour and endless champagne brunch and it was a surprise to see how they prepared food for 2;000 people. The brunch that followeded the tour was great. We also went to the wine tasting which was wonderful. Our excursions exceeded our expectations. We had a snorkeling trip (Antigua By The Sea). This was an80 ft cat Amy that had stairs which made it easy to get on and off the boat. The staff was great. The were so much fun. While snorkeling; the stayed close and took anyone that wanted to return to shore. We a.so chose Caribbean Cooks at Fairview Plantation. The chef prepared a meal and we ate what she prepared. The food was outstanding. We were truly blessed with friendly people on every island we visited. We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and all the new friends we made. Getting on and off the ship was extremely organized so it went quickly. We had 30 ft waves but Captain Ante kept us informed of what to expect. Our dining experience was great along with our servers. The food was delicious. We made wonderful memories during our 12 day cruise. Thank you Royal Caribbean for all you did to make our cruise outstanding. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it had Charleston, SC, in the itinerary and we had never been there. Charleston was the first port we visited, followed by Port Canaveral, FL, Freeport and Nassau, Bahamas, and Coco Cay (RC’s private island). We chose to purchase day passes to some resorts in Freeport and Nassau since we enjoy beaches. We were glad we did this, as it worked out well in terms of accommodations at the resorts we visited. The day passes were purchased independently of the cruise line, and we purchased them online. RC’s private island, CoCo Cay is outstanding. There are PLENTY of chairs, some with natural shade of the palm trees; umbrellas could be rented for $25; there are also all sorts of water sports at an additional cost. There are about 8 private cabanas which could be rented for $309 for the day, and there were lounge beds with covered canopies that could be rented for $57 a day. The ship, while not new, was certainly lovely and elegant. The crew were so nice, especially Francis, our Concierge Club Butler, and smiling at all times. The food was delicious both in the dining room and at the specialty restaurants, and the dining staff were accommodating and professional. We were invited to have dinner at the Captain’s table, and this was quite a nice treat. Captain Ante Cavala is probably one of the youngest (and cutest!) captains of a cruise ship in the industry. He was exceptional and very delightful. Being in an “Owner’s Suite,” we enjoyed some very nice perks, including free drinks and snacks at the Concierge Club from 4 - 8 pm, (an exclusive area for guests in suites); quick and effortless embarkation and disembarkation; priority boarding of tenders; to name just a few nice upgrades. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our cruise, our suite, the dining, and the entertainment. Read Less

This was our fourth annual Pan Cruise. We are a group of 8 and get together to play this weird card game everyday on the ship. Natalie our group coordinator was Outstanding. A pure delight. We had prearranged the use of Conference B by our TA. We were a little worried about what the weather would be like, but it turned out to be fine. The Captain, one of the friendliest and I think youngest, avoided the weather issues. Although one night we rocked and rolled pretty good and our drawers and closet doors kept opening and then slamming shut. And you know they say "Happy Captain Happy Crew" and they were all friendly. The ports were enjoyable. The highlight of the cruise for us was The Kennedy Space Center in Port Canaveral. Only one of the eight of us had been there before. We actually could have spent another day there if we had the time. Our main dining room wait staff was excellent. Our waiter Vitaly, assistant waiter Jose, and our head waiter Sudhir made our evenings there great. Our room attendant Gede always had a smile and took care of our every request. And left us towel animals. Sorry to see the chocolates on your pillow go though. Also Kumar, the Diamond Lounge Concierge (he left in Port Canaveral to go to Symphony OTS CONGRATS!!!) and Sudhir who took his place were Awesome!!! We never even went to the Diamond Plus Lounge because we felt so comfortable in the Diamond Lounge and loved the location. It was our first time on Granduer, although we have been on her sisters many times. As always, it was a wonderful fun trip. And I believe "Any day at sea is a Good Day!" Read Less

The Grandeur was the first ship I had been on and I loved it ten years ago and so when I saw the itinerary out of Baltimore..Charleston, Port Canaveral ...and Bahamas I knew my husband would be interested .he loves history and this cruise offered the chance for us to see places such as Fort Henry and Fort Sumpter. We were not disappointed . We had the best tour operator ,Bob Beard , take us around Charleston ..we learned so much and were delighted with his stellar ,informative tour of that beautiful city. ...as well as Fort Sumpter and the Civil War. As for the ship itself, the staff are to be credited with making The Grandeur the grand ship to call home for nine days. The staff are professionals in everything they do and take personal pride in their positions on the ship. Our cabin attendant, Ricky was friendly and very respectful and a pleasure to chat with for the few moments he was able to visit in between cleaning the many cabins.his work ethic was to be admired as was that of our waiterJuanito. They are representative of the really fabulous staff of The Grandeur. The Captain kept us safe as we were in the path of the NorEastef that rocked the east coast. His announcements were highlighted by his wonderful sense of humour and I looked forward to his daily words! This was a memorable trip for my husband and I..we loved walking around Deck 5 outdoors ..we enjoyed the fresh ocean breezes and loved being spoiled in the dining room and also choosing treats in The Windjammer.Truly, A Grand Trip ! We just returned from a 12 day cruise and as usual had the time of our lives. Though the ship is small by today's standards, it was well kept up and pleasant. The overall service is way beyond other cruise lines in our experience, and we have sailed on RC probably 7 times. This was our 17th cruise. Embarkation, even at the peak time, was fairly quick (about 45 minutes) and very well organized. Baltimore is one of our favorite ports to leave from in this regard. Once on board we ate at the buffet and were in our rooms with our luggage by 1:30. During the entire cruise we were impressed with the quality and friendliness of the service. Royal Caribbean just seems to us to be a cut above the rest. We lucked out weather wise with 11 days being gorgeous. Although we selected a small interior cabin on this trip for the value, it was laid out to accommodate storage for the way too much stuff we always pack. We were comfortable and not too cramped. At sea days were wonderful, and we chose to do a bunch of nothing by the pool. AS usual you have to get there by 10 am to stake out deck chairs. We went to St, Thomas, Antigua, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, and St. Marteen. Our excursions, booked through the ship, were Segways/beach on St. Lucia, and Sting Ray City on Antigua. Two others got cancelled, one due to rough waves. The Segways were a blast and easy to maneuver up and down the mountain roads. Gorgeous views and a small group with wonderful staff were highlights of this trip. The snorkeling was disappointing. Sting Ray City on Antigua also offered great staff and a fun time holding and feeding these beautiful creatures. We booked through the ship as prices were comparable to privately and we didn't want to worry about getting back in time. Dining was overall good to very good in the buffet/Windjammer, and very good to excellent in the main dining room (lobster included). Desserts rocked. Our wait staff, Cumar, Natasa in the dining room, and Maryanne in the Windjammer were superb! Our room steward, Rolly also took great care of us. Disembarkation was about as expected, another 45 minute line. We used a Lift which was half the price of a cab and there in 5 minutes. Overall a fun, wonderful trip. We have already booked another 12 day for next Feb.! Read Less

Friends recommended Royal Caribbean. We also sailed with Royal Caribbean twenty years ago, and had a wonderful trip. The shows were top notch, as good as I have seen in Vegas or New York. Entertainment staff was was vibrant and professional. A highlight of our trip was on our final evening in the Centrum when they honored our veterans , police and firefighters. It was a rewarding and emotional tribute to those who give so much. It brought tears to both of us, our son and fathers all served in our military as other family members, living and deceased. It was as if they were all being honored through this gesture by Grandeur of the Seas, it became very personal for us. Staff professionalism and interaction with passengers made for a comfortable and pleasant day to day experience. We limited shore excursions to beach trips. Dining was fulfilling and delicious, Staff was unprecedented. Cabin staff was accommodating, pleasant and service oriented as well as professional. We have been relating our experience to family and friends since our return home. Thank you Royal Caribbean for a relaxing and rewarding trip. Read Less

We have been aboard Lady G five times and hope for many more. Although we have not experienced RCI's larger ships, my husband and I love the size of the Grandeur. It's nice to see the same familiar faces/passengers throughout the cruise and the crew is so very accommodating and friendly. The port of Baltimore's embarkation process is so fast and easy. We stop to give our luggage to the baggage handlers, park our car in the secure lot and get in line for security. Once through that, we complete a short health questionnaire and get our Sea Passes. Then we head to the ship, have some lunch, browse around the ship, and by then (around 1:00), cabins are ready. Muster Drill is around 3:00 and then we get a good spot for sail away. Although we had a table for two in the main dining room, we opted this cruise to dine in the specialty restaurants for four of our dinners. Giovanni's and Chops (ate there twice) are always a great treat and this time we also tried Izumi for ramen and sushi. We also love the selections in the Windjammer and dined there many evenings. Only ended up dining in the MDR on two occasions this cruise. The entertainment was just okay for us this time. One really good comedian and a good singing/dancing show. We visited five ports: St. Thomas, Antigua, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. Maarten. Saved the best for last....St. Maarten is always our favorite. The biggest highlight of our cruise was the activities staff. Particularly, Orlando. We've never seen a more entertaining crew member. He hosted game shows, trivia galore, contests, etc. At every one of these events, Orlando would bring a little extra....he's a fabulous dancer and comedian. My husband and I were one of two couples in a game show with Orlando....so much fun. Good looking guy from the Dominican.....all the ladies loved him. In one of our trivia contests, he said if a man can come duplicate some of his dance moves, he'd win a cruise aboard Orlando of the Seas.....it's a bus that goes to his grandmother's house in the Dominican. ;) Our other favorite activities staff member was Caroline (pronounced Car-o-LEEN-uh). She hails from Canada and was really cute, funny and a great dancer. She also hosted many trivia contests and also Origami classes, napkin folding, etc. My husband and I really hope to cross paths with them again! We've been on 8 cruises thus far (5 Grandeur, 2 Enchantment and 1 Disney Magic). This is the first cruise where we were blown away with the jammed-packed activities on the last full day. Usually that day has a few activities but mainly it's like "hey, start packing up and get on outta here." There was so much going on, including a "fair" in the Centrum with lots of fun activities and prizes. Even the layout in the Windjammer for dinner was fabulous that night. Shrimp, special desserts, etc. We will definitely be back on the Grandeur sooner rather than later! Read Less

We love the size of the Ship, the Baltimore location, the friendliness of the staff and overall vacation experience for the cost. We book a Jr Suite and use My Time Dining. Never a need to schedule an event because there is always the ability to just do whatever you want to do. The food is wonderful, the staff friendly, the dance opportunities numerous, and ports all have great things to do via a scheduled excursion or just getting out on your own. I would recommend the Grandeur for couples or older children. Being a smaller class ship I do not see a lot for little ones to do, but my wife and I being in our 50’s have plenty to do and have the opportunity to dance every night. We enjoy scheduling our dinner at 5:15 ish and then doing the first show at 7 leaving us 4 hours every evening to enjoy the bands or other activities in the Centrum. The service is the thing that makes this ship stand out. It almost seems as if the crew members compete with each other to make you feel special. The Grandeur is an older ship without the new entertainment available, the staff makes up for the difference in their friendliness and enthusiasm. If you are looking for high adventure thrill seeking activities, this isn't the ship for you. If you are looking for old fashioned customer service where the staff learns your name and what you like, climb aboard ! Dining Room was excellent in both food and service. We travelled with young teenagers and there were plenty of activities for all of us to do. My children are easily pleased. The shows were fun every night. My favorite port was Nassau by far. We went to Blue Lagoon Island and had just the perfect day ! Our room was an inside stateroom and it is small but adequate. We were near a staff hallway and storage room and there was a persistent metallic banging at night. We called and the staff was quick to respond and try to remedy it but I think it was coming from the staff hallway doors and metal stairway. There isn't much they can do to eliminate the noise of staff returning to their own rooms. We learned to live with it but I was happy with their response time and efforts to address our complaint. I would do this cruise again ! Read Less

Casino folks were pleasant and treated my son and I courteously. Our room attendant, Iketut was tremendous. The waitstaff at the main dining seating, Stevan & Marko did a great job and the food was enjoyable. The shows we caught were a display of some very talented folks. The Tango Bueno Ares was spectacular. We did not know how they were able to move their legs and feet in so many directions and not injuring themselves or each other. Our cabin was 4510 ,near the front, but we had no issues even during the rough sea days. We ate at Chops, Giavannis & Izumi. Great service and the food was outstanding at each of them. We particularly enjoyed a lunch and a dinner at Izumi. The brunch at Giavanni was great and was followed by a galley tour. Even with the cruise changes due to the mechanical issue, Royal made the shortened cruise a great one. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it left from Baltimore and the dates were a perfect time to be away from MD. Everytime I got on or off the ship, it went very smooth and the crew was super nice. I was in a balcony room on the 7th deck and my attendant, Mennie, was amazing......she was on the spot at all times. I mostly hung out at the bars. If you drink more then 3 or 4 drinks a day, then you should DEFINITELY get the drink package. I got my money's worth and then some! The Solarium Bar and the Casino Bar were great. The Solarium had a bartender named "Acosta".....this guy was on the BALL and we all loved him!! In the casino bar, Dane and Mark were equally as awesome as Acosta. Different crowd and smoking in the casino....i don't smoke, but I had so much fun in there, I didn't mind. Dane pours a great drink and was just a great dude to watch work with here and there. Food -- I usually hate buffet type food....but the food in the Windjammer was really freaking good. Everything is not for everyone, but every pasta dish, stew, or carved meat I tried was really good!! The Great Gatsby was really good...whether I ate the free meal or upgraded....the service was IMPECCABLE!! I can't remember my dudes' names because I am terrible with names.....but I think they were Rijandarian, Atul, and the dude who was the boss who was from Turkey. They were so freaking awesome. I loved going there just talk to them and see them work! ( Surf and Turf was ALWAYS really good! ) Chops Grille -- meh....i prefered getting the Chops Grille food in the Great Gatsby....much better service. Giovannis -- HOLY WOW!! I didn't want to go here.....it was PHENOMENAL!! They brought out every gotd@m appetizer....family style....but there was SO MUCH FOOD and it was DELICIOUS!! Wine was good, appetizers were out of this world, and the main courses were all delicious according to my table mates! The bar on the 4th floor....good dudes there, I only went there a few times here and there. Starbucks - I don't drink it, but my wife does....it's all free and good with the drink package. It isn't called Starbucks, but the logo is plastered everywhere and the quality was really good. Good dudes at the Schooner Bar.....just had more fun with the people I met at the other bars, so I wasn't here a lot. Wi-Fi package....affordable and pretty reliable throughout the course of the trip. We didn't make it to CoCo-Cay due to weather. 2 nights in Nassau were great. Then, the ship had a malfuntion and we had to stop again in Florida on the way back instead of heading to Bmore. So...instead of getting back THursday morning....we got back Saturday morning. I am sure this was a bummer to some people.....i freaking loved it!! 2 more days of hanging out with new friends, meeting more new friends, and crushing the drink package. I would def go again, but it will be awhile....I am an overindulger and need to let me body heal!! :) I am sure the shows and stuff were good, but I wouldn't know....I was drinking and hanging out at the casino, and eating the whole time!! But, it was really fun!! Oh yeah....the Park Cafe....they have these roast beef sandwiches on off hours.....Make sure you get one....it will keep you in the game if you drink too much and they were delicious!! (Nachos and pizza there late at night....really good for last call food! :) ) Viking Crown Lounge - It was good....DJ has to keep everyone happy so I was just chilling with whatever music. Only up there 3 or 4 times.... I had literally zero complaints even though we missed a port and the ship had a problem. Have a great day!! Read Less

This cruise was booked for one main purpose-to make sure my other half can endure higher waves. He has only been on only two cruises so far, and on those, the waters were very smooth. I, being a meteorologist, figured that booking a cruise in the Atlantic during January should give us a chance to see if he can handle the high seas. That we did get. First of all, Delta lost a bag when we flew to Baltimore the day before sailing. Thankfully, the bag was delivered just as we were checking in at the port. While this was no fault of RCCL. it did make our embarkation a bit stressful, as we had delayed embarkation due to cleaning after illness on the previous cruise. After getting our seapass cards, I had to go back out beyond security to meet the luggage driver, tag the bag, give it to the porter, then come back in, wait in line, go back through the scanner/TSA, then was finally able to board the ship. I was for sure ready for a cocktail when all of that was done. Simply put, the Grandeur has many positives. While the first night at dinner. we found the service to be lacking. We just didn’t think the staff and use were a good fit. So, on the second night, we asked for a different section (MTD) and it made all of the difference in the world. Every night from that 2nd night, the dinner service was right on point. Dexter, the waiter, and his assistant Rohab, and section leader, all of them did an excellent job. We booked a JS on the aft #8588. We were very happy with it, however I was a bit disappointed in the condition of the cabinetry and night stands. They look old and worn. The stateroom attendant, Dominic, was perfect. One day we were gone for lunch for just 45 minutes, he came in and cleaned up our stateroom and left. We were amazed as we did not even see him when we left. When we left Baltimore, I knew there was going to be a very strong storm developing. in fact, after looking at the weather charts several times, I was fully expecting some kind of itinerary change. With every new forecast model run, I kept saying to myself, sure we will not sail right into this. Remember, the main purpose of this cruise was to experience some high seas, so I can't say that I was completely disappointed about the storm, but I was a bit surprised there was no change in our itinerary. The first day was a sea day, we were heading south and the seas began to build a bit, no surprise. At one point I tweeted RCCL asking them if they were watching the storm, they assured me they were. By the 2nd night we were in 10-12 foot waves. OK, not the worst possible, for sure, but this was exactly what we needed to accomplish our mission. Also, by the evening, it became obvious to me how the Captain was handling this storm. The ship sped up to 20 knots around the coast of North Carolina. I am sure this was to meet the storm while it was weaker (the storm was quickly strengthening as it moved north (the RCCL meteorologist commented on this move on his facebook page). and became the meteorological "bomobgenesis". This term refers to an area of low pressure that sees a drop in atmospheric pressure of at least 24 millibars within a 24 hour period. It ended up being one of the top ranking "bombogenesis" ever recorded. It became obvious to me by evening that Captain "Thor" knew exactly what he was doing. By sailing south quicker, we would pass the storm when it was weaker, vs. passing it when it was stronger, further north. In the end, that plan worked well. We got our seas we were looking for, but didn't get in worst like another ship further north (Norwegian Breakaway). Our first scheduled stop was on Day 3 (Day 1 embarkation, Day 2 sailing) and scheduled for Charleston South Carolina. The "bombogenesis" storm gave this southern charming city a rare 4" of snow. It was beautiful, but the streets were covered in ice/snow, many businesses were closed, we even had a delayed arrival due to the harbor pilot having difficulty getting to his/her boat. We decided to stay on the ship, we were having a great time and I did not want to risk falling on ice and breaking something just to get off the ship. I admit that I was thankful to see such a rare event, snow in Charleston. Day 4 was Port Canaveral, we have been there many times and had already planned to just stay on the ship and enjoy the solarium, which we did. Day 5 was Grand Bahama. It have been there many times, we just walked off the ship for a few minutes and started to have Windjammer withdrawals, so we were on land a very short period of time. At least the weather was nice. Day 5 was Nassau, here again, been there several times. We got off the ship briefly to walkaround. Around 5pm I heard the announcement chime in the cabin, this got my attention as all announcements were in public spaces so far. It was Captain Thor telling us that due to the weather, we would not be sailing to Cocoa Cay that night, so we would just stay in port at Nassau another day before starting our journey back to Baltimore. Day 7- instead of sailing to Cocoa Cay, we stayed in port at Nassau. We decided to go onto land for a bit just to check the area out and for a change of scenery. When we returned onboard to fix our Windjammer withdrawals, we found the crew serving the food. Even the entertainment staff pitched in and helped. They were working hard trying to get everyone served quickly. I am sure this was due to reported norovirus cases. Around 5pm we begin heading back out into the open Atlantic. Just before bedtime, I checked my radar app to see what the south Florida radars were showing off the coast in our path. There was lots of rain so I knew the weather sailing out would not be too nice. As typical, I woke up around 6am, as I sometimes do when I am home, I picked up my phone and looked at radar, if for reason, just to see home much progress north we had come overnight. My location detector on the radar still showed us in the Bahamas, in fact, not far from Freeport. I immediately thought the location detector in the radar app must not be working properly and I would just dismiss it for now. About 30 seconds later, I heard an announcement being made in the hallway. I jumped up to open the cabin door to hear the captain saying we were headed back to Freeport due to a stuck rudder on the port side. Obviously, my phone was correct about our position. About 3 hours later, the Captain came on and said we were now headed for Port Canaveral for repairs and we would arrive there by morning. Later he announced that RCCL was flying a team of engineers from Baltimore on a private jet to meet us so they can come on board and fix a leak in the steering hydraulics. It was becoming more and more obvious to us that we would not make it back to Baltimore as scheduled on Thursday. Later in the day, the captain said we would not make it back until Saturday. At this point it became obvious to us that we would need to disembark at Port Canaveral, rent a car, and just drive home to Alabama. It was that or try to schedule a flight out of Baltimore and get home at least 2 days late, possibly more. I went downstairs to find a line at the GR desk wrapped half way around the Centrum. Later in the evening, there was a note on our door saying that if we wish to disembark Port Canaveral to let them know by 8pm. I went downstairs prepared to wait in a long line for more than hour but I was happy to find several crew members/officers working the line and actively get everyone’s questions answered or what else thy needed. I was in line maybe 8 or 9 minutes. I was greatly impressed by how the crew was handling this and seemed to be on top of the situation. There were some very upset people and they were dealing with them the best way they could. We did disembark the next day and headed home, our cruise was cut short by two days, but it was that or get back at 3 days late. The choice was easy. I would say around 300 guest disembarked with us, as you can imagine, it was a bit crazy as we had all of our luggage, but here again the crew were working hard to keep the line moving and get everyone off the ship that was planning to disembark. One thing that I did not understand or like, is that they kept our seapass cards. I enjoy collecting mine. Overall, we were very happy with our time on the Grandeur and would sail again. Despite all of the trouble, I still gave the cruise an excellent rating. Since we now know David can handle the waves, we have booked a 14 night Transatlantic on the Grandeur’s sister ship, Rhapsody for next year. Thanks for reading my review, I hope you find it helpful while planning your next cruise. Read Less

Embarkation: Easy port to get to. Long wait to drop off luggage. Easy check in but had rude check in person. Not Rccl people but Baltimore terminal should do a better job at training. First inpressions: Old ship but friendly crew. Cruise director Bob and officers always around and very friendly. Ports: Charleston: Got off ship but city was closed due to snow/ice storm. Definitely different. we were looking forward to walking around but Rccl got us there but towm was closed Port Canaveral: Rented car and went to Space center. Space center was alright but has turned into Disney in attractions and price. Freeport: Industrial port. They fixed up dock area but very expensive for local tours and taxis. Nassau: Ok but been there too many times Overall comments: Missed Coco Cay due to weather. Stayed overnight in Nassau instead. Hyrdaulic issue with steering and cruise extended two days. Rccl took care of parking and extended drink package. A small norovirus outbreak. Rccl responded with all crew working overtime to mitigate the outbreak. Still saw people refusing to sanitize their hands. Security was called in some cases. Shame you need security to show people what they should have learned when they were potty trained! Crew was fantastic! All crew helped serve food to keep people from getting sick. Saw captain, cruise durector, lifeguards, reggae band, etc all helping out. We still had a blast in spite of the weather. Disembarkation Off the ship and in the car in 5 minutes Read Less

Group of family/friends goes on cruise annually. This year we were faced with norovirus, high seas, a mechanical break down and an unanticipated extension of the trip. Was impressed with crew as they dealt with the norovirus that someone brought on board. None of the 12 in our groups was affected, and am sure it was because of crew's attention to "washy washy" details. Was disappointed we did not get to Coco Cay. One of our favorite places to be. But rough seas kept us in Nassau for safety reasons. The amazing crew kept us happy, well fed, and entertained during the "adventure" of losing the starboard steering mechanism. We had an extra 2 days added to the cruise while the ship was repaired. Huanxiu was an amazing wait staff. She always remembered preferences and names, and made our dining a treat. The cabin staff was great in managing a group with 2 disabled travelers. Trivia -- had a great time with the crew. Read Less

I always thought I wanted to go on a long cruise with time at sea to do nothing. This 12 nighter changed my mind. The cruise itself was great, but the downside was having 3 days at sea, then 5 ports in a row, then 3 more (rough) days at sea was a bit challenging. The crew were fantastic - they didn't seem tired of all of us at all. The whole crew was enthusiastic and friendly the whole time. Lots of great music and trivia if you're into that kind of thing. Not much else to do. This was a Christmas- New Year's cruise - decorations were beautiful, carols and Santa were good. But not enough variety in things to do. Television was the worst. Would be nice to have some games or crafts activities that you didn't have to pay extra. The Diamond Lounge was good if you're a member. I will cruise with RC again but not more than 7 nights. We chose this cruise because we wanted a holiday cruise out of Baltimore. The bonus was that it stopped in Martinique. My husband and I met at club Med Martinique in 1974! We swore never to return because it could never compete with falling in love in paradise. However, after 43 years, we were ok and looking forward to seeing it again. We rented a car and drove to club med for a day trip. I do not really recommend it, as it was a hassle to get a taxi to the airport to get a car and another hassle to get a taxi back. It takes an hour to drive each way, which basically leaves very little time at the club med. The staff was great with enough activities to keep all of us happy, me dancing, daughter trivia, etc. I love to dance and my husband does not! Therefore, it was great that they had line dancing, zumba type or salsa lessons every day so that I could get my dancing in without bothering with a reluctant partner. The staff were very enthusiastic, especially Orlando and Gema. The food was OK, not great, but good variety. The serving staff was excellent, although sometimes much slower than we wanted at dinner. We started saying that we needed to go the the show at 9pm, so that we would not need to stay for more than an hour. We did a Sting Ray excursion in Antigua which we highly recommend. We did a snorkeling , supposedly pirate themed, excursion in St. Thomas. We went for turtles, and only saw one. All in all, the staff was great and tried very hard to keep us all entertained. loved the service, loved the food,(did not use the specialty restaurants) we loved the main dining room and our servers. Dining room service was Fast not Rushed but no waiting for food. The entertainment was varied and live no canned music. Our cabin was very clean and quiet (deck 2 -2125). Our room steward was very attentive. The ship size was perfect, and we never had to wait in line anywhere. the crew was very hyper-vigilant and were always sanitizing tables and handrails, there were attendants available to apply hand sanitizing gel outside the restaurant and some other gathering areas. We loved the heated pools. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. We did a couple excursions we went to St.Johns for the National Park tour, when we stopped at St.Thomas the trip to the Island from the ship was the first one since the Hurricane, and the people on the Boat we took over were the best and very informative and entertaining. Our other excursion was on Antigua a four and a half hour beach visit with 2 drinks and lunch. I would recommend both of these trips. This was our most favorite cruise in years. "This was themed a Holiday Cruise" Christmas and New Years Eve on board. We will be back to cruise on this ship soon as we can. Read Less
