Ten years ago, 2009, my very first longer cruise was the HAL Voyage of the Vikings. It was 35 days RT from Boston on the Maasdam. It was exciting, and being from Florida, a real delight to escape the heat and see the North Atlantic. So when I wanted to go back and do it again, I found that this cruise had become one of HAL's favorite and pricest itineraries, too rich for my travel budget. ...
Don't listen to all the people who complained. It's a brand new ship that was inaugurated only in May 2016, it looks new,it smells new and it is new!
Very good, excellent service, food was beyond expectations.
Family room was a little bit crowdy but you don't feel it since the whole day you're out.
Plan your shore excursions yourself, otherwise you will have to pay a lot of money. For ...
We were on the Breakaway for two nights, one night sailing from Rotterdam to Southampton, then an overnight in Southampton, staying in the Haven Deluxe Owners Suite 16102.
Embarkation
If you are ever sailing from Rotterdam stay in the Hotel New York, the old Holland America Line building which is literally a minute away from the Cruise Terminal. Staying in their Loft Suite meant we could go ...
This is such a simple review. There is no bad or ugly. We are "later 60's" seniors from California and evidently easy to please. This was only my second cruise on HAL, the third for my better half. The most recent previous cruise was Celebrity Solstice in the Med last year in October, a great experience. Previous to that was the Maasdam in June last year, Boston to Montreal, also a great ...
We flew KLM from Vancouver, Canada to Amsterdam on Sept. 4th. for a Sept. 7th. sailing out of Rotterdam. This was the second time in two years we flew KLM to Amsterdam and found them to be outstanding. Very friendly and are constantly serving you something from the time you leave until your arrival. We stayed at the NH Amsterdam Center Hotel and used Priceline to arrive at a $125 per night stay ...
I had many personal problems but I can differ between my individual problems and the general condition on the ship.
There was a t-shirt available:
DAM good ship DAM good crew DAM good food DAM good shows DAM good cruise DAM good vacation
I will be very proud in the future to wear this t-shirt when I am going on other cruise lines.
DAM good ship
I was "mission control" of totally four ...
My wife and I boarded the not quite finished Norwegian Epic in Rotterdam to spend ten nights aboard disembarking in New York. Due to over running construction our first three nights were spent in a Spa Suite that was beautiful, it was carefully designed to make maximum use of space, with masses of storage, a comfortable circular bed with a corner Jacuzzi bath; an ideal suite for two with access to ...
Pre CruiseI absolutely love cruising and have been interested in it for many years. Went onboard my premiere cruise in September 2008 onboard the world's largest cruise ship Liberty of the Seas with Royal Caribbean which was a spectacular 7 night Western Caribbean cruise roundtrip from Miami, Florida. I had planned a trip to England to visit close ...
Embarkation:
We used Rome Cabs for our transfer from Rome to Civitavecchia and they were prompt and professional (they also picked us from the airport two days earlier). We arranged to share the ride with two other couples from our roll call which lowered the cost considerably. We arrived at the port about 12:30ish and we were onboard with champagne in hand within a half hour.

We're a couple in our late fifties, early sixties--probably 17 cruises (10 days plus) with Holland America. We don't have children or grandchildren with us, so prefer the more sedate, elegant atmosphere. We arrived in Rotterdam on 30 Jun so we could attend the naming ceremony. We stayed at the Golden Tulip (arranged by HAL)--very nice, but with no air conditioning. It was very warm, so that ...
