After booking what we thought was an obstructed oceanview cabin....category H, 2 weeks before sailing we got an email saying we were "upgraded" to a category G room with 2 portholes. This supposed "upgrade" was at the very front (aft) of the ship, on a lower deck and a very small room. The categories listed above do not have this cabin. I had to "choose" a cabin from the drop down list, but the description of it being a large ocean view room was definitely not the case. I tried to change this cabin back to our original category numerous times before we sailed and then when we got on the ship to no avail. We were told that there were no other cabins available during our first 14 day cruise, but there might be during the second 14 day. They would let us know. Never heard a word and had to spend the whole 28 days in this cabin. Quite uncomfortable with the high waves and rough seas we encountered many times during the 28 days. We were woken up several times in the middle of the night to a horrific slamming sound as the ship was hitting the waves.....again....we did not choose to be...nor would we ever would have chosen to be in the front of the ship....but according to Holland America this was an "upgrade" because our view wasn't obstructed....nope...we had clear views of the large waves and swells. My cabin had portholes, which added to the whole ship-experience. It was large enough, but I travel alone, so I don't need a lot of space. Enough space to stow away your suitcase (under the bed) and lots of hangers in the closets. Nice bathroom with a bathtub (not very large though, but good enough for me) and shower. Very good light to put on make-up (of shave if you have to). Cabin is in front. This can give some vibration while sailing. Hallway was very quiet, no night- of morning noises. Read Less

Fortunately we are one of the minority of passengers that is not having problems with our cabin. As usual the cabins staff is going Beyond expectations. Our room faces Promenade deck and we have good natural light in our room. Keep in mind if you get a room on the Promenade deck that is the walking deck people can see in your room at night when your light is on. I believe that these rooms are a bit smaller on Deck 3 then on deck for so make sure to check that out. They still have the old and small TVs on Deck 3. But most important to us was that the room was quiet and there were not any noises above around or below us. Read Less

Our cabin and the hallway leading to it were the reason that we didn't rate this cruise higher. Cabin 2504 was awful. It is supposed to be an ocean-view cabin; however, the only way to see out was to kneel on the bed and look through the ever so tiny and deep port holes. The cabin is listed as a large cabin, but the bed took up the entire width with hardly any room to walk. It is a bow cabin, second one from the front of the ship. We tried prior to sailing to be reassigned as I get seasick and knew that this location would not be ideal, no luck. The noise at night was unbearable. We spent the first three nights with barely any sleep. It sounded as if bowling balls were hitting the ship. We tried again to have our cabin changed, but was told the ship was full. Also, there was a leak in the hallway, vacuuming and fans were a constant for the duration of the cruise. Another, issue was our toilet did not flush at all the last night/morning of the cruise. I called the front desk and was told they would send a plumber. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, I decided to use the restroom near the theater. That was not working properly either. I advised the front desk of that issue as well. Not sure if this was a ship-wide problem or not, but our cabin steward said that our entire area was not working. Read Less
