We choose this cruise because of the itinerary and the ports of call where really great. Our embarkation and disembarkation were very smooth and not stress are all, the staff and crew from the ship SPIRIT made this vacations like dream come true for us. The ship was always super clean, our stateroom was always fixed and spotless, the dining rooms were always ready to take care all passengers with great food and the waiters were very attentive and on top of every detail. Every evening we enjoy the shows at the theater, they are very entertaining and top quality which shows a lot of preparation from their cast. The service onboard is like five star hotel, the whole Norwegian Spirit team enjoy doing their duties and make us feel at home the whole time onboard. We went everyday to Shore excursions with NCL,their tour guides are well prepared and knowledge, the buses were new and well maintain, which help a lot with the high summer temperatures. Overall this 10 day cruise was the best vacations for mi wife and myself, Thank you Norwegian Spirit and the whole crew for this amazing vacation. Teddy Salazar Read Less

I wanted to take my mom on a cruise for her upcoming 65th birthday as she loves cruises and they're usually the best way to relax and visit so many different countries/places. We have cruised before with Norwegian Cruise Line and I have cruised myself several times with Carnival, but as she lives in Bosnia and Herzegovina now, so the closest and the best cruise that worked for the dates I was visiting her was Costa Diadema 7 day cruise out of Civitavecchia. I noticed right away that on our Costa cards there was a designation of WaterUSA, so to our surprise this meant that you could only get water for free, without being charged, while you were at the restaurant/buffet during breakfast, lunch or dinner hours. Otherwise, they charged for a glass/bottle of water. Same goes for juices, which were only available during the breakfast hours. This was our very first shocker. Dinner experience was horrendous. You are assigned to a restaurant at a specific time, so you have to go there during the assigned time, otherwise you would need to go to the buffet. Food quality was good, but the dining experience every time, except for the last night was horrendous. I'll explain. We wanted to change to 2nd sitting option and that request would need to go to effect next evening, not the same evening; fine, not a big deal. We go next evening to the second sitting and needless to say that waiter only the first night was ok/kinda friendly for the first sitting which we changed. The waited at the 2nd sitting our 2nd night seemed to care less about customer service or just showing a smile, everything seemed like a chore and like a bother to him. At the end, I noticed that my card was not returned once I got to my cabin after ordering a glass of wine. I went back to the restaurant and he claimed that he gave it back to me and to talk to the Maitre D. She was confused as to why I was directed to talk to her, but she tried her best to resolve the issue and mentioned we can request a new card and get it in the room the next day. I got the new Costa Card but lo' and behold all of a sudden my old card was thrown on the floor of the room by someone who obviously dropped it in there. Next day, we obviously didn't even want to go back to our table and requested to be switched to a different one with a different table, so we decided to eat at a buffet, as by now we knew this request wouldn't be completed the same evening, but rather the next day. Next day, our new waiter on the other side of the restaurant seemed overwhelmed and we waited for a while until we were able to place our orders. He noticed that my Costa Card showed the previous table and wanted to tell us we are seated at the wrong table, but I showed him a temporary card given until the new card arrives. Right away, negative kind of attitude. The order by which he took orders didn't seem to match when each party got seated, as other parties that arrived later seemed to get service prior to us already waiting there for a while. Finally, when we placed the orders and the food came to us, he got one of the orders wrong. All in all, it would have been nice to see these waiters be more friendly and not act like we are bothering them by dining there. Our dining took about 2 hours because of all the waiting to order and waiting for food (correct food order). Needless to say, we wanted to see right after that dining experience if we have an option of doing the open seating restaurant Corona Bleu that seemed to have a nicer ambiance. We were told to just go there and that it's free and there is no difference other than having open seating, which would be perfect for us. We went to Corona Bleu the next day and the lady at the front said that it's a 5euro cover charge per person as we would be taking someone else's table. I explained that we were told at our assigned restaurant to come there, but she didn't seem to care to find a solution and just said that I could go back to our assigned restaurant and asked to be assigned to Corona Bleu if there is availability. Of course, that made us go back (due to all sorts of miscommunication happening all the time and lack of customer service), to wait again for next evening to find out if we were able to get the Corona Bleu. We would be notified via letter in our cabin by next day. We opted for dining at the buffet. Next day, no letter, we go to our assigned restaurant to give it and that waiter one more chance, he right away said that an older Italian man is sitting at our table and it's not ours. I was confused and mentioned we were not notified. He seemed almost angry and very unfriendly to have to deal with it, as he referred us to Maitre D who said we were assigned to Corona Bleu. Advising no one has notified us, as was indicated, asked if they can call to mention we are coming, as we don't want to miss the dinner time. Finally, our last night there, all the confusion and unfriendliness, but we got to Corona Bleu and at first our waiter was overwhelmed and didn't seem to know what to do with us, as our table wasn't even set up properly, but he did get us water by telling another waiter to bring it for us so we don't have to wait a long time again. Finally, one of the supervisors was checking to see if everything is going well and we explained our frustration and that even here we weren't sure who our waiter is and it's our last night and this whole experience has been frustrating. He didn't seem to care much either but he listened and sent our waiter, who was indeed very friendly and apologetic and explained he tried to tend to a table with the birthday cake. 2nd Maitre D or manager came that has a higher position that the previous one, Francesco, who really took the time out to listen and resolve the issue, even though it was kind of late, but he did what he could that night to finally make our dining experience a positive one. The waiter with a unique name that unfortunately I can't remember now was indeed very nice and attentive. Francesco tried to make up for all the other negative dining experience days by bringing out a free delicious birthday cake for my mom, as I mentioned it was my birthday present to her in advance, and she didn't want that kind of recognition necessarily as her birthday is not until September, but he did it anyways. Also, he noticed that I was drinking red wine and had the waiter bring me the quality red wine that he likes to have a few glasses of. I wish as he said that we were able to find Francesco sooner, as he was the only one that understood the concept of customer service. Entertainment crew was great, so luckily at least we were able to relax and enjoy the evening dance events with them. They were very energetic, funny, and friendly. The highlight of our cruise was dancing with them. Especially if it's your first time cruising, by all means, please choose a different cruise company, as they simply don't care for customer service or to resolve any issues you will have on the cruise. I have more details of interactions with guest services/reception and so much miscommunication and misguidance on their part as well that would take another page to get into, but the dining experience was really what every night frustrated us and took away from the whole cruise experience and even the quality of food that was actually pretty good. We had a wonderful experience aboard the Norwegian Spirit. The staff was excellent and the ship was well maintained. We kept hearing how old this ship was, but we couldn't tell. They do a great job. The ship was very clean and looked in great condition. We enjoyed the entertainment (especially the Elements show, which is a must see!) and Norwegian always has great food. We enjoyed each of the ports we visited. Corfu, Greece was our favorite (highly recommend Corfu Taxi Tours). We also loved Venice and Slovenia (recommend tour through Istranka to Lake Bled/Ljublana). Croatia is a neat place to visit, but we probably wouldn't go back. We found it dirty and expensive with very unfriendly people. It was neat to see Olympia and the Olympic ruins, but there isn't really anything else to do there so we also probably wouldn't go back there either. We would definitely take a Norwegian cruise again, and especially one on the Spirit! Read Less

We have cruised with NCL since the days of the SS Norway and generally appreciate the casual freestyle cruising. Our expectations for service are not excessive, as we have sailed almost 150 days with NCL and have experienced their service levels - generally clean and efficient, but not five star. This time, however we found the service on our 11 day cruise to be greatly diminished from our past experiences (even from our previous travel on the Spirit). The Windows dining experience was at times horrendous, with waits of up to 45 minutes (while sitting at our reserved table) to even get our order taken. The supervisory staff stood nearby, the room was almost empty, but we had to ask for help at every turn. Sometimes, our waiter wasn't scheduled to be there until 6, but we had been seated in his section with a 5:30 reservation!!! A "Dear Carlos" note to the Hotel Director resulted in beffer service, but having to even ask seems so unacceptable. Our room steward was replaced after 3 days, and then that service improved significantly (we didn't complain about that so obviously others were on top of this). Service in the Casino (executive host never left the desk) and the photo gallery (manager was unknowledgable and made us feel that to buy $200 of photos was an imposition) was mediocre at best. Seems like NCL is now really "nickeling" people more than they used to. Latitudes recognitions are diminished and rigid. Food is more predictable, and menus seem less imaginative. Even Teppanyaki seemed to be a routine going through the motions, rather than a unique entertainment/eating opportunity. I want to emphasize that I think the service short comings are generally due to staffing and management, not due to staff that are poorly trained or not trying. Except for our initial room steward, we found all of the working staff to be personable and service oriented; the problem is clearly a management problem which makes the issue more basic to the NCL culture. On the positive side, there were examples of great service and going beyond just what was required as well, and we recognized those with "vacation hero" cards and added tips. The ports were generally great, though the extraordinary heat limited our touring. We took a tour to the Olympic Stadium site which was offered by the ship, and very good (but of course you could get one cheaper by arranging in advance); however, it was convenient, well organized, and we enjoyed not having to plan in advance. While an older ship, it is comfortable and in reasonably good condition....certainly not a reason to avoid it. It is a comfortable size as well. Embarkation and Disembarkation were fast and easy....we were on shore before 7am!! The cabin (balcony BA) was skimpy on storage (obviously this is limited by the original design). Even a shelf above the bed would be helpful to add some space . While the entertainment was typical for this size ship, the performers brought onto the ship were a nice variety, and above the average. A violinist was a special surprise, as I expected little and found her to be extremely entertaining. An Italian singer and some acrobats were also very good. The production performers were adequate. Wish they had more seminars about the different ports like the one they had on Croatia and possibly more affordable excursions.. Overall, this cruise was a GREAT VALUE because there was No Single Supplement. YEAH! As a result of the No Single supplement special, it attracted many SOLO travelers....,which was great. I met so many interesting people from all around the world, NCL made it possible to have dinner with other SOLO travelers, Wish they had more activities for SOLO travelers other than just a 15 minute meet & greet daily...but it was better than what other cruise lines offer solo travelers. The entertainment was great most nights & mediocre a few of the nights...It would have been nice if they had comedians. Hoping Norwegian has more No Single Supplement Specials for SOLO travelers in the future...Us singles like to travel too!....Is so, I will certainly be on board another NCL cruise, Read Less

We chose it because of timing. We travelled with 2 kids and had to book 2 staterooms, no connecting rooms available on this ship according to booking agent. Quite inconvenient. The main showroom program, except for the last evening, were mediocre at best. We had one outside cabin on the 6th floor, directly below the 7th floor open deck, and can hear the footsteps above. Stay away from these rooms if you are light sleepers. We can also hear the people next door. The ship is 20 years old and its age starts to show. The staff is attentive and friendly. We did not purchase any chore excursions and just booked everything on our own. With so much information available online, it's easy to find a group tour at usually 1/3-1/2 the price of the ship excursion, and with much more intimate and flexible schedules. For a family of four, we can easily get a private car for the same cost. Read Less

The staff were all friendly and all would go out of there way to make the quest happy, even the smallest parts from sanitizing your hands before you eat to giving you cold wash clothe and water when you return from your excursion . I chose this cruise for myself and 2 kids as the itinerary really appealed to me. On arriving at port, check-in was smooth and quick. Unfortunately for the first 5 day, I would have to complain to guest services at least once a day about problems with planning, things ranging from no hot water, toilet not flushing (this was a regular occurrence), no water one day, hot water coming out of cold tap. This really created a lot of stress for the first 5 days. My other major issue was that we were directly below the casino and every night we were kept awake until 2/3am due to people walking above our head. Also on the last night they had run out of soft drinks!! On a positive note, our cabin steward Bart, was lovely, the food was nice and the countries we saw were lovely. Entertainment on show was very good . I would not sail on this particular ship again and I am waiting for a response from NCL re my complaint and that will decide whether I would sail on an NCL ship again. Read Less

This was our 8th cruise on a Silversea vessel, first on the brand new Silver Muse. We wanted to tour the Mediterranean and Adriatic in style and this seemed like the best choice. And we like the Silversea experience. The new Silver Muse did not disappoint. Our Silver Suite was lovely and spacious. The interactive TV's provided a great deal of information that was useful: dining options and the availability of seating, shore excursions, and several US and British stations. The only thing not provided was an optional way to hear the announcements made by the Cruise Director or Captain in our suite. That is not possible on this ship, surprising given the sophisticated TV. You have to go out into the corridor to hear these. Dining was excellent, and we tried pretty much all the options. Atlantide and La Terrazza were our favorites. Atlantide has a very broad menu in a lovely setting and La Terrazza never disappoints. It was very hot so Hot Rocks was a choice only once. Lunch options abound: The Pool Grill provides excellent burgers and sandwiches, Scappanopli has hand made pizza, Arts Cafe has smaller sandwiches in a fascinating setting, and La Terrazza has its sumptuous buffet. The shore excursions were rather average. Seemed like a lot of riding in a moderately air conditioned bus. Something that Silversea could not influence was the oppressively hot temperatures, heat indices over 100f ! But comfortably cool on board. Did we enjoy this cruise and ship? Absolutely, and we booked our next voyage while on board (you save 5% that way), this time in The Caribbean. Read Less

The itinerary of the three legs was the reason for booking this cruise. We also looked at Regent but Silverseas itinerary was more to our liking. As much as we liked being so catered to, it was hard to socialize with fellow passengers or even to run into them again. I thought the casino left a lot to be desired and didn't have much of a pulse. I personally would like to see maybe more of an "oldies" group in entertainment. Shows that would play the music of the 50 and 60's where we could even dance in the aisle. I love to dance but not necessarily with the young 20 year old singers. Honestly, i thought the food was just so so. What was good was very good, but it was hard to get some plain old home-style soup. We loved the tour guide on the Picasso tour, he was great! The last walking tour we took with actors as the guide was terrible and we took off on our own as well as others we saw. Read Less

We recently sailed on Silver Muse from Rome to Venice, for 12 nights. This was our first “real” Silversea cruise (we had previously been on an expedition cruise with them to the Galapagos and loved it). Overall, we enjoyed our experience but there were high points and low points. Let me start with the high points. The ship itself is beautiful. We had a Superior Verandah Suite on the ninth deck, and found it to be extremely spacious and well appointed. Our butler, Anand, and our Suite Attendant, Juvei, both went above and beyond to make our journey an extremely pleasant one! They anticipated our needs before we did, and quickly got used to our preferences in terms of how to make the bed, etc. The only issue with our room was that the walls seemed to be paper-thin. We could hear our neighbors’ conversations as if they were sitting right beside us. We could also hear their TV, as if we were watching it. I’ve been on other, older ships (e.g. Wind Star) where the rooms were perfectly silent. I guess this must an engineering flaw. Likewise, the public areas of the ship were beautifully decorated and exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed the Panorama Lounge as well as Dolce Vita the most. We enjoyed our dinners as well and dined at all restaurants. I was clever enough to have made reservations only many months in advance, as many of the smaller restaurants were booked weeks before our departure. Many people were not very pleased with this dining arrangement, but it suited us just fine. Our favorites included Kaiseki, Atlantide, Silver Note, The Grill and Indochine. We also enjoyed pizza at Spaccanapoli, even as a late afternoon snack. Our least favorite was La Terrazza; while the food was delicious (particularly at dinner), the service fell short. Our water was seldom refilled and we had to ask for more water nearly every time we dined there (breakfast, lunch and dinner). In addition, while the pasta served during dinner was superb, I received cold and overcooked pasta during the lunch buffet (from a hot cooking station). For an Italian cruise line, this should be embarrassing. Likewise, La Dame felt short of our expectations. Again, the food was delicious, but in regards to service, it was excellent at first, but when the restaurant grew crowded, we felt ignored. Our wine was not refilled and we had to ask for more. This is not something I would expect from a Relais & Châteaux restaurant, especially one that requires a supplementary surcharge. Giulia, our server at La Dame, however, was a gem; she was excellent and we cannot praise her enough! As for other meals, our first few days we ate breakfast at La Terrazza, which was disappointing in terms of service (as I mentioned above). The food was adequate. We also enjoyed breakfast on our verandah, always delivered exactly on time (as we requested) by our amazing butler. Where we were most disappointed (common to both La Terrazza and in-suite dining) was cooking of eggs. We like soft-boiled eggs, and each and every time we ordered them, they were either overcooked or undercooked. By the standards of Silversea, this small but important detail was very disappointing. Cooking an egg isn’t rocket science! We later discovered breakfast at Atlantide, and I think this turned out to be our favorite. For lunch, we enjoyed Kaiseki the most - the sushi and sashimi prepared by Chef Laurence rivaled that, which we once enjoyed in Japan! We had lunch one time at Atlantide and it was also delicious; we wish we had discovered it sooner. La Terrazza, again, was disappointing. The crew of Silver Muse was for the most part amazing! Almost all crew members were always enthusiastic and did their best to accommodate us. We have become close will many of them. We would especially like to mention Radek, Monica, Nicholas, Joyce, Faye, Fe, Sheiba, Moses, Stallon, Jameer, Giulia (who I already mentioned), San, Jinji, Putu (both of them), Ketut, Gaudi, Rakesh, Sybila, Diana and Mohamed. There are a couple more whose names we could not recall, but as a whole, we were very, very impressed by the crew! We thoroughly enjoyed all the performances by the six members of the Voices of Silversea. Each show was professionally prepared and appropriately timed. We could not be happier with the entertainment they provided. The same goes for DJ Bart, who provided great music during the day, afternoon and evening. Perhaps there was a tad too much Latin music, if I’m being really picky. As for areas of improvement: the pool deck was a nice place to relax after a tiring shore excursion (or after a day of sleeping in!). However, by the early afternoon there were not enough crew members and we had to walk over to the bar to order drinks. For us, this was not a huge inconvenience, but again, Silversea promises upmost luxury, and fell short in this regard. Also, there were no umbrellas on the deck (as on Wind Star) to provide shade, but I suspect this is due to some rule or regulations for a ship of this size. Our first cruise with Silversea was an expedition trip to the Galapagos. I have to say, we both preferred that style of cruising. While we like to dress up, I felt that having to wear a jacket almost every night for dinner to be excessive. When on vacation, I like to feel relaxed and not “stuffy.” I understand that this is a personal preference of ours, and in no way impacted our overall rating of this cruise. In fact, while onboard, we booked an expedition cruise on Silver Cloud to Antarctica! Finally, I would like to commend the captain, staff and crew for the occurrence during a strong storm. We were dining at Silver Note when we felt the ship tip too much. Apparently, the winds were extremely strong and were pushing the ship sideways. We remained calm but were slightly fearful. The captain handled the incident perfectly, quickly changing course into the wind. It’s such a shame that there was so much damage (broken wine bottles, glasses, even an entire wine fridge!), but at least everyone was safe. Additionally, we commend Radek for his calm handling of this scary situation! We’ve never experienced anything like it, and hope that we never do again! We were quite disappointed during disembarkation. While we waited to leave the ship, there was nothing available: no water, coffee, tea, anything. On our prior cruises (Silver Galapagos and Wind Star), there was always plenty of bottled water available and coffee and tea stations were set up for guests to help themselves. Aboard Silver Muse – nothing. One of the crew members who we befriended ran to her cabin to bring us two bottles of water! The disembarkation procedure could for sure be improved. Overall, we very much enjoyed this cruise, especially the ship itself and its crew. Sure, there are a few imperfections to work out, but we will definitely be sailing with Silversea again! We would for sure sail aboard Silver Muse, but have found expedition trips to best suit our interests. Read Less

For your accountprint are two machines available, but the last two days those machines were out of order.... The Indonisian crew is still fantastic, although you notice that there are less people working on the ship. The officers too are very busy! We were already in Rome and wanted a cruise that left from there. We decided on this cruise because is was 12 days and went to spots that we have never been before and wanted to see. We also like port intensive cruises as we like to visit new places. The food was excellent but I wish this ship had more dining options. We went to the 8 o'clock show one night and waited to go to dinner in the Lido and didn't realize that it closed at 8:30 so we were stuck with pizza as the pasta line was too long. The entertainers were very good but the shows were not as elaborate as the other cruises we have been on. I would have enjoyed a bit more splash. We choose this cruise because of our past cruise experience with Holland America, ie Alaska cruise 2014, the food was excellent. This particular cruise the food was very good, but not quite the same as the Alaska cruise. The ship was smaller and the entertainment was below our experience from the Alaska cruise. There was no entertainment on our last night, which was quite disappointing. The staff and wait service (dining room) was very good, of notable dinning room staff were 2 servers, Domas (excellent) and Rai (very friendly with great voice), also the room service was quite good, Martin and Sigit, thank you for their great service. All 4 were very pleasant and stood out for us. Overall the crew and staff were friendly and always said good morning or hello. We had a few concerns and one was with the Spa, we found them to not be as helpful and vague at times in their explanations and choices. We won some spa giveaways and found it difficult to use them since the Spa would not honour them on sea days. We won a couples day in the spa and were only able to go for about 1 hour....disappointing! The dining room Maitre de (host) sat us alone one night for dinner without our travelling companions, he sat another couple with our friends for that dinner. When I voiced my concern, one of the supervisors offered us a glass of red wine, it was terrible wine and very little in the glass! Quite disappointing since this was near the end of the cruise and they should of known that we always had a table of 4, for my wife and I and our friends, who we convinced to cruise with us. We had some problems with a few bartenders who were impatient and vague in their explanations of happy hour and drink choices...we ended up purchasing drinks we did not want and they gave us no options for returning them. Again, very disappointing. We did not use any of the ships excursions, we found them over-priced so my wife and I planned our on excursions for each port. Read Less

We had the signature suite Deck 6 Sailed 24 July -4th August Pros The staff dining staff were exceptional, they went over and above to please you. The drinks staff were polite but you got the feeling they were there to push sales. Good selection of movies and TV Shows which were available on demand and free. Cons It's a really boring ship....nowhere to have fun. Even the BB Kings lounge music was more about the band enjoying there particular taste in mellow music rather then getting the passengers up to have a dance. I would suggest that if you are between 25-55 yrs you were unlikely to have any significant nightlife at all. Nothing to enhance the sail away experience....no music (or God forbid a live band), and only once did I see canapés being offered by one steward. On the back deck And Lido bistro the music was on a repeat sequence which only lasted at best 45 mins so you heard the same songs and music time and again. The EXC Tour talks should have been broadcast directly into the state rooms. You could not access your stateroom account via the TV. Only via the mobile phone app. The food was repeated every 12 days so if on a 24 day cruise you would get the same menu again. The cabins were not cleaned well and twice cleaning cloth was left in our room. I agree with a previous reviewer that the norovirus cleaning of the stateroom was completely laughable.......nothing was moved from the bench tops in our room. Read Less

The excursions were very expensive, the cruise director never had any interaction with guests we never saw her there was boring entertainment and sometimes there was none at all. The cruise director should organise activities, the food should be varied and available all the time, there should be more on board activities and interaction. The excursions should be cheaper. There was no captains dinner, there was no dinner highlights... eg Hawaiian nite. Read Less

We choose this cruise because of the ports in this itineray...Most of those ports were new for us like St-Raphaël (France), Ajaccio (Corsica), Almeria (Spain), Ceuta (Spain), Marseilles (France) and Sète (France) and we were happy to see the ports we went before like Livorno (for Cinque Terre), Monte Carlo and Barcelona....We cruised a lot in the mediterranean but we were happy to find a cruise with some ports we never did....All those ports are very nice towns and easily walkable so you don't need to have private or ship excursions...On Westerdam they have specialists who describe what to do and see in each port of call without trying to sell excursions..... The service was exceptionnal on this ship (dining room, cabin attendants, service desk....in fact everybody from the cruise personnel on the ship was friendly and smiling....)....The ship itself is old and need some improvements.......The only bad thing about Holland America is the Internet service (it is very disturbing for us) in the ways you have to pay $29,95/day if you want to send only one E-MAIL or to chek-in for your flight back home.....In St-Raphaël we walked from the port to Frejus and back to St-Raphaël and it's a very nice town....In Ajaccio we walked around the town and took a bus to visit some Islands out of the town and we liked it....In Almeria we walked to the fortress Alacazaba and it was worthed it's so nice and we walked around the town it's very pretty.....In Ceuta we walked from the port to monte Hacho and back around the town (we could see Gilbraltar from the ship and along the coast) and we likes very much this town.....In Marseilles we walked to the cathedral Notre-Dame de la Garde and back around the town and we took a tour to Aix-en-Provence and we loved it ....and at Sete we took a tour to Montpelliers and we walked around the town after the tour and we loved it.... Hal should not of done away with the library. The food was excellent but lacks adequate staffing for the tables in the Lido at dinner time. Pinnacle grill not up to its usual standards steaks not too great. The ports were terrific. Cabin was good. This was more of a family cruise with plenty of children. They would run up and down the halls and at the Lido. Staff was instructed to just let them do their thing. The future cruise consultant was hidden up on deck 10. She could accommodate only two people by her desk. The guests waiting to see her would be left standing in the hallway outside her office, not a good way to sell future cruises. It seems HAL has lost their direction in what it wants to be. It is stuck between the older generation that doesn't spend a lot of $$$ on amenities and the newest generation that want things to do on the ship. The new T.V. system is awesome. Put it on the longer cruises. Read Less

Ship: This ship smells of smoke, is dated, with not much to do on board. Pool Area: Was surprised to see that there were only two pools for tons of people. Pools are packed with people- didn't bother to go in. Food: Food is ok- you will not go hungry as there are lots of options. We had the drink package but was disappointed to see that many drinks were not included despite asking the MSC rep if all drinks on the menu would be included. Service: Service was ok- hit and miss. Sometimes great, other times had to wait a long time for a drink. Overall: This was our first cruise experience and because the itinerary for this ship saw us cruising only at night, we enjoyed waking up in a new port every morning with no days at sea. We would definitely cruise again but not with MSC. Read Less

The ship and crew were fantastic! Everyone was friendly and there was so much to do. The food was great, as was the entertainment. It was our first cruise and we can't wait for the next. Our cabin steward, Emmanuel was amazing and took care of all our needs! There were many different shows to choose from and there was always something going on. We enjoyed the many restaurants and bars. The food was very good, particularly the 2 large dining rooms. The Cruise Director, Dave, was everywhere. He was funny and very approachable. We really liked the Q & A with the captain and other officers, as well as the good bye show. It seemed as if the entire crew was there and they really seemed to enjoy themselves. The ship was kept very clean and appeared in great shape. It was also the perfect size. The cruise was incredibly smooth and for the most part you could not even tell you were on a ship! Read Less

First the positives: The food, the food, and the food As a lobster lover, my goal was to eat some form of lobster every day and I succeeded in that goal! Despite what others have written, Toscana was our absolute favorite and we were happy we were able to get a second reservation there toward the end of our cruise. It almost seemed as if the wait staff tried extra hard to provide an excellent experience due to the mostly negative reviews they have received lately. We loved the various olive oil selections provided to accompany the bread basket and between the 4 of us dining over the course of 2 nights we tried most of the hot and cold appetizers (one particularly hungry night we each ordered a hot and cold appetizer in addition to a pasta course and an entree) My absolute favorite entree was the Lobster fra diavolo. It was perfectly prepared in a very fresh tasting sauce and was not at all messy to devour. The fish selections as well as the pasta courses were also excellent Jacques was also a gastronomic feast. Our waiter Manuel was absolutely wonderful, so much so that we gave him a generous tip and sang his praises to the Manager. The food here was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked especially the various fish and shell fish selections. The restaurant is also very pretty. Polo Grill was good with some room for improvement The crab cake appetizer was top notch as was the whole main lobster, but the beef and meet selections fell short of expectations The Porterhouse and NY Strip were merely ok and the Rack of Lamb curiously lacked any discernible flavor. Red Ginger was by far our worst dining experience. The service was actually terrible and could not have been any slower. It took nearly 3 hours to complete the meal including half an hour for appetizers to arrive and and another 45 minutes before the main course appeared. We were seated near the front door and there were also several very angry people waiting for their reservations to be honored enduring waits of more than 30 minutes. Several just gave up and left and presumably went to the buffet or the grand dining room. The food here was merely okay and nowhere near as good as the myriad Asian restaurants we frequent in NYC. Grand Dining Room service at breakfast was extremely slow the 3 mornings we were there despite the fact that the dining room was nearly empty. Breakfast selections sound better than they are and I actually preferred breakfast at the Terrace Cafe. We ate dinner here twice. Unlike the specially retaurants, the selections here change nightly. The first night we enjoyed everything we ate including the steak, fish and lobster selections. The last night we went toward the end of the cruise, the selections were disappointing. Terrace Cafe Great place to grab a quick breakfast. Excellent selection of fresh fruits and berries Fantastic French toast as well as lox and pretty much anything you can think of to eat for breakfast. We only went here the last night on board for dinner because we got back to the ship late and had to pack and that was a mistake. The food offered that night for dinner was absolutely an excellent surprise! There were several stations where you can order dishes prepared to your liking including the grill offering lobster tails jumbo shrimp swordfish as well as chicken and steaks. The great thing about the Terrace Cafe is that despite being a buffet, guests are not permitted to touch serving spoons and help themselves--there are multiple servers at each area who serve you with gloved hands-a much more sanitary way for certain. And last but not least, the coffee and cappuccino offered everywhere was absolutely fantastic, especially at Baristas On the plus side The ship is very clean, very well maintained and beautifully decorated without being garish. The cabins are also large (we were in class B3 cabins) well appointed and designed with plenty of closet, drawer shelf and room in the bathroom for everything. Beds are also very comfortable and there are plenty of high quality towels provided as well as great robes. Curiously, we had to beg to get additional shampoo, conditioner and lotion This was never automatically replaced after it ran out and on one occasion we had to make several requests before it was replenished. The negatives: Staff at the reception desk is surly at best and not well informed. Upon embarkation, and check in we asked several questions and each was met with : That is answered in The Current (the daily newsletter) Which we found when we finally got to our cabin Either the staff is totally uninformed, or couldn't be bothered to answer our questions. Also, more than one employee in the reception area does not speak intelligible English. Tender ports: BEWARE do not sail on Oceania if they stop at a tender port you really want to visit. We learned this the hard way The first stop was the tender port in Sorrento. Although it was a beautiful day, the captain made the decision to abort the tender operation at 8 am because he said it was unsafe to launch the tenders. Apparently, this happens quite often for Oceania at this port. There is no excuse for this since Naples is a nearby port option where ships 5 times larger (Norwegian Epic) than the Riviera dock regularly. Oceania tenders in Sorrento to save the docking fees which is inexcusable for a higher end cruise that costs twice as much as sailing on the Epic. Shame on you and on me for not realizing this before booking. We had a private tour booked for the Sorrento port and as a result had to eat the $500 cost and did not get to see Pompeii one of the sites we were most looking forward to. Read Less

We've been customers of Regent and wanted to try Oceania since they are part of the same company. We had a fantastic time with our friends and I hesitated to select average in my overall rating because I believe my true rating would be somewhere between average and very good. However, I hesitate to select 'very good' because it did not live up to my expectations based on what is advertised, and our previous experience with Regent. Do not expect to get any wifi service in your cabin the entire time you are on the ship. The only way I was able to get service was to take my laptop to the computer area near the library. There were always people complaining and struggling with the wifi. In fact, the staff even admitted that wifi was a major challenge. This is unacceptable when you factor in the constant promotion in all Oceania materials about wifi. In addition, we are living in an age when everyone relies on this. From the younger generation to older people, this service is essential. What better advertising for the cruise, than people posting pictures on Facebook and/or communicating with friends and family back home about their trip--in real time. Once you get home, it loses some of the allure to send out photos etc. I am a business person and must be able to stay connected to my work while traveling--this was such an inconvenience. But I will say, the guy who worked in this area and helped people get connected etc...was fantastic! As I worked on emails, I observed and listened to him work with guests and he was so patient and helpful. The food is good, but not the "best cuisine in cruising" as advertised. We particularly liked Red Ginger and found it unfortunate that you are unable to return to these restaurants more than once. (Especially since we chose NOT to go to Jacques--one less specialty than allowed to us) I would be willing to go at an undesirable time just to be able to return. The person who said they would put us on a waitlist was so unconvincing about this truly being a viable option. We knew we wouldn't hear from anyone. The Polo Grill would be the second best in our experience. The Grand Dining Room is simply the buffet food with servers. There is very little difference or advantage. In fact, we received many missed items for our orders. No syrup delivered with french toast. Missed side of bacon. wrong drinks. I think the service and lack of any real diversity to the buffet was the most memorable negative with this dining option. The Concierge Lounge had great cookies, but doesn't really offer any big benefit. I still have no idea what value the guy that sits in that room, offers. Any questions we asked, he referred us to someone else. But the majority of the staff was absolutely fantastic. Overall the ship and cabin were just fine. We enjoyed the comedian and magician very much. It is a wonderful experience and we acknowledge that this is a terrific blessing. I would just like to see a bit more luxury for the price you are paying, wifi service in areas other than the computer area and a stronger reflection of what is advertised in reality, versus the marketing perception conveyed in the numerous brochures I receive each week. We chose this review for the itinerary, hoping for an upscale smaller ship. 1) My primary reason for given this such a poor review was that the staff was really not great. This has to be the first cruise where we encountered absolutely unfriendly staff. Most of them did not want to be there it felt like. Only our room attendant & the gentleman staffing the gym, were charming and always offering a smile. The first incident, lost luggage, took 4 hours to resolve because reception could not connect the dots between a customer calling for a lost bag and the bag sitting behind his counter. When confronted, he said, well I can't know it's your bag :/ Another example is the gentleman working in the concierge lounge. I'm sorry I am not as amusing as what is on your phone, but I assumed that your job was to help people and not look at Instagram.... 2) Food and beverage. In general, was OK. Was not wowed. Often was slow in dining areas to get served wine so you are stuck waiting for sommelier to come over. Also, we traveled with a friend who had special dietary needs and it was painful to watch Oceania try and get this right. Meal after meal. Day after day. McDonald's could have done a better job accommodating this. 3) Missed a port due to weather. Not really their fault, but set a tone for the cruise. 4) Shore excursions are ridiculously overpriced to the point where it's comical. Book your own. 5) Drink package is silly. Only during meal times on the basic...and no spirits, etc. The value wasn't there. Considering I have been trying for over a year (unsuccessfully!) to be removed from their mailing list, I shouldn't have been surprised. For the price, just no. Look elsewhere. Read Less
