This is my sixth cruise and second this year on Royal Caribbean. The first one this year was on Allure of the Seas in a Sky Class Suite and this most recent cruise was also in a Sky Class Suite. The ship, room and room steward were great. In fact the whole crew was really outstanding. Most of our meals were in the Suite Lounge or specialty restaurant and other than Jamie’s all food and service were outstanding. I am still amazed how well the crew can remember your name and make the cruise a special experience. A few reasons for this one star rating: first we had 50 pinnacle members (top tier repeat customer) and they suck up all the service paid for by suite members. Some of these members were nice but the majority extended a strong entitlement style about themselves. Three times I literally had a pinnacle member walk between myself and a crew member I was talking with because of their self-importance. If anyone is planning to pay for Sky Class service check with your travel agent to find out how many pinnacle members are booked on the cruise. If there is more than about a dozen I would avoid the cruise. You will pay for the services and they will consume them while staying at an interior stateroom. Second reason for my low rating – when on Allure we had great reserved seats for the shows and while this benefit remains on Harmony your seats will be obstructed and no desirable. I did notice the Star Class Suites still have the same quality of seats between Allure and Harmony. Third reason for this one star – entertainment on Harmony is really very poor. Grease is a good show as is the water show. The other shows, such as the Ice Show (1865 or something) is entertaining but the flow of the show makes no sense. It almost seems like they make-up the skating as they go. The Columbus show was a joke and we left after about 45 minutes – very boring. I don’t plan to extend my platinum status further with Royal Caribbean. If I want to get these Sky level services I will go to another cruise line and Royal can keep filing their interior state rooms with the pinnacle members. Read Less

This was a family trip which was planned in Sept 2015. The biggest ship in the world was not a disappointment. While being very large, it was easy to more around and for the most part not crowded. There was lots to do on the ship but not much time to do things. With only 1 day at sea, we missed a lot of the activities. Shore excursions were good but the travel time back and forth to the ship was long. The food was very good. We ate at different places throughout the cruise. American Icon was breakfast every morning. Good a la carte breakfast. Lunch was usually in port. For dinner besides the general dining room we also did two other places, both were excellent. The only place I did not like was the Windjammer. Too many people. The food was good but there was not place to sit. We had an inside cabin. For as much time as we spent in the room it was perfect for me. I roomed with my sister, so we could have used a little more closet room. Read Less

This was our 5th cruise, but our first one in the Mediterranean. We had also cruised on the Allure & Oasis, so we were very famalier with the large ships. We were a little concerned with some of the negative reviews, but our cruise did not disappoint. We arrived at Rome Fiumicino Airport at approx. 9am. We always book a private transfer from airports to the ports as they are much cheaper, quicker and more professional than those tied to cruise lines. After a 50 minute transfer we were at the Civitacchia port. Embarkation was a breeze as we were on the ship by 11:30. Dining - we had "my time dining" and dined in the MDR every night. We never had to wait any longer than 5 minutes before we were seated and for the most part, dined at the same table or area. We initially thought about trying some of the specialty restaurants, but we were more than happy with the food in the MDR. Also, the service in the MDR was the best we have experienced in all of our cruises. The wait staff were professional, fun and did whatever they could to make each dinner a unique experience. For breakfast and lunches, we dined at various locations including the windjammer, park cafe, sorrentos & solarium bistro. All were good. Not sure why guests get bent out of shape & complain about the Windjammer for breakfast. The ship offers at least 5 other options for breakfast if you think the Windjammer is to busy. Entertainment - we pre-booked most and enjoyed grease, the water shows, the skating show & the magician. All were entertaining and professional. Although we are both over 50, we enjoyed the water slides and the Abyss. There were very few line ups for these activities as this cruise had a small amount of kids & teens on board. I am sure this will change when the ship goes to the Caribbean. Ports - This is why we booked this cruise as we thought it had some interesting ports. We have learned from other cruises that booking long excursion can be exhausting and expensive. Our plan was to visit each port/city and not get on a bus for 5 hours. Naples - We went on on a free (tip what you want) walking tour. This was outstanding as we were taken to the Spanish quarter and experienced a truly vibrant & unique city from a local perspective. Barcelona - Again we hooked up with a free walking tour and were able to experience to city with a local guide. Palma de Mallorca - Took the shuttle into town and did our own thing, including shopping & sightseeing. Nice relaxing resort type town. Marseille - Again, took the shuttle into town (View-Port) then took a mini-train around the port and up to the Basilique. This is also a very unique & vibrant city. La Spezia - Since we had already been to Florence & Pisa, we took the time to wander around this cool little port town. Nice waterfront, shopping & cafes to experience. Getting off and on the ship was quick & efficient and it never felt crowded, even though there are 6000 other guests on the ship The staff were all polite & professional. My wife & I both appreciate what it takes to provide this type of service in this industry and you add in all the guests different nationalities and we think they did a wonderfull job. Debarkation - We carried our own bags of the ship in Civitacchia as we easily walked off, grabbed a local bus to a rental car agency and began our next adventure in Italy. Read Less

An absolutely wonderful way to tour the western med with kids! The rooms were lovely, the activities were plentiful, the excursions were educational and family friendly. We went on a completely full sailing, and never found ourselves waiting in line for anything that we wanted or needed. Used the Flowrider, zip line and water slides - all with little or no wait. Plenty of space to swim in the pools. Ultimate Abyss was very fun and kept us coming back for more! Bionic Bar was fun and cute. Japanese restaurant was absolutely delicious and very memorable. Same for Wonderland. We were on deck 8, near Central Park. It was a beautiful spot. We had breakfast every morning at the Central Park cafe and it was never crowded. Wifi was outstanding! Our tough-to-please teen never complained about the speed! And we streamed Netflix with no lag or buffering. We will be sailing this ship again soon! Read Less

Ok, so this will be an extremely honest review of our cruise using Royal Caribbeans Harmony of the seas. This was our first cruise ever. The ship is beautiful, huge and spotless as it can be. You can hardly feel it move through the water. The staff was fantastic from top to bottom. The state rooms (we had a balcony room) were of good size, lots of closet and drawer space and the bathroom was small but roomy enough. Again, the room was maintained at least twice a day in spotless condition. The food, slightly disappointing. The windjammer had a good selection of food but it was just ok. The main dinning rooms were beautiful but again, the food was just acceptable. Most of the entertainment such as the Grease show, ice show and the comedy act were very well done and we enjoyed it. The "Headliner" magic act was terrible, don't waste your time. But what made it even more unsatisfactory was the number of small children running around in front of the stage making noise, bumping into other guests and making it impossible to watch the show. Even the performer said to one of the fathers (during the act) in the front row that he should get control of his kids. I blame the parents more than I do Royal Caribbean but it might be a good idea to keep kids under the age of 6 from attending shows after 7pm. Casino, it was beautiful and well staffed but it was smokey to the point where we didn't even want to go in. Boarding on and off was easy and quick, well organized by the staff. The ports, well they are simply beautiful and were the best part of our vacation. The specialty restaurants were fantastic, great food and even greater service. Jamies and Chops grill I would put at the top of our list. The biggest down side for us was all of the extras that were offered. Extra for drink packages, extra for certain foods even extra for soda or bottled water. didn't like that at all. The shore excursions offered by Royal Caribbean sucked. Don't wast your time or your money. We were lucky, for the tours of Rome, and Naples we used ROME IN LIMO. You cant beat ROME IN LIMO and they are affordable and are experts. Read Less

It saddens me to write this review as I was hoping that people on a cruise would be nicer and civilised. It could well be a European cruise issue. Just to be clear, the staff are fine, but some of the guests are quite rude and maybe even racist. I'll start off with the positive points about the cruise. Harmony of the Seas is a modern cruise ship about 5 months old, so it makes a good impression and you initially don't feel you have been ripped-off. At the same time it felt clean, so I wasn't worried about catching something from other passengers. Multiple destinations: Civitavecchia, Naples, Barcelona, Palma De Mallorca, Marseille and La Spezia (didn't go here because of a death on-board). And it was nice how easy it was to disembark and reembark on the ship at these destinations. If you timed your breakfast well, you could miss the crowds trying to disembark. There was a schedule of excursions for each port, but the sad thing with my experience was that they were only average at best, yet expensive. I did the catamaran experience with my friends in Palma De Mallorca which took about 70 of us to an island about an hour away and then let us swim or go snorkelling. This is probably only good if you are a good swimmer and want to sunbathe on the deck of the catamaran, too, which I'm neither, and was there only because my friends were. Where the catamaran anchored was 4 meters deep and I'm not a strong swimmer and almost drowned swimming under the catamaran! It would have been nice if one of the onlookers just asked to see if I was fine, but that didn't happen. I probably should have stayed onboard, in the shade! As I was splashing around and clinging on where ever I could to catch my breath, I overheard a few other frustrated people that couldn't really enjoy the swimming because of the effort required. Like me, they probably thought we would have anchored a bit closer to the secluded beach, so that we could have walked to the shore and have a few more options to enjoy the good afternoon weather. Light refreshments and snacks were provided, but overall it felt expensive at around EUR 70 per person to sit on a catamaran to sunbathe and go swimming, when you could have done the same things on the cruise ship at no extra cost! I also did the scenic tour of Marseille, on a bus. This was a boring experience and I dozed off early into the tour. It started getting interesting when some passengers demanded that the bus stop at a toilet because there were none onboard and the driver took us to a museum where there were public toilets nearby. Everybody livened up and got excited to get off the bus and admire the exterior of the museum and take some pictures. It made me realise that I didn't want to be stuck on the bus for a few more hours and would have preferred to explore the city on my own. At the scheduled stop, me and my missus told the tour guide we would be making our own way back to the ship, which was the best decision we made that day. We got to walk around and eat at our own leisure and enjoy Marseille at our own pace. In Naples and Barcelona, me and my missus did our own thing and had a pleasant time. I think overall the excursions are not that good and you are better off planning your own day at each port. Framed another way, how can your experience be special when there are so many others experiencing the same thing? I'm not sure if an all-you-can-eat free buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner at certain restaurants, along with various buffet fast food restaurants is a positive, but you're unlikely to go hungry. There were numerous activities onboard from rock climbing, to gambling in the casino, going to the theatre and watching ice skating shows. I liked the rock climbing and going to the gym the most out of all the activities and they also had the fewest people participating. I'm not really a theatre person, but I did like the Columbus show as it was a bit more creative and quirky, though it plugged (advertised) too much of the facilities of the cruise! It was a bonus that hardly anyone was there, so no really tall (proportionally challenged) people potentially blocking your view. Grease was mediocre, which was apparent early on so I wasn't too annoyed that the family in front had loud verbal diarrhoea throughout the show. Ironically the theatre was packed out. My patience disappeared when it was a snail's pace to exit the theatre, so I stepped over all of the chairs to get out. One couple made a negative comment about my bad manners thinking I wouldn't say anything in shame, but I surprised them by responding back. I'm shameless! Nothing like a bit of tit-for-tat drama. There was an outdoor water show, but unfortunately I was not able to watch it as I suffered abuse from 3 people around me. The Canadian ice skater was easily the best performer in the ice skating shows, but it might have something to do with him being a former Olympian medalist. I think there was at least another couple that were Olympians that did the 'swing the lady by her boots and see how close you can get her head to the ice' routine, which was exciting and scary at the same time, but the other routines were not really that impressive or complicated or well synced in either shows. You have to put into context that the entertainment above was free (in that it's included in the price you paid for the cruise), so the performances were not going to be as good as a West End theatre in London. Put another way, if you had paid West End prices to watch the above performances, or if you were expecting Westend-standard performances, you'd be extremely disappointed, and that would be a modest way of putting it. The standard is probably only just above a high school or secondary school performance. The cabin was fine and spacious (I had an ocean view stateroom), but the shower was small. I had a cabin with a balcony facing out of the port side, which I didn't really use, but the cabin was chosen with this view with the hope it would be quieter, which it was. However, you can hear your neighbours on either side and above you. It might be a good idea to bring ear plugs as you might not get a good nights sleep otherwise, which my friends suffered but were too nice to complain about. And now the negatives. 6,000 people on-board after 5,000 came on in Barcelona. I work in a building of 10,000 people and you have to be respectful to your colleagues. This may not be genuine, but you'd be foolish to not conform when your livelihood is at stake. You can't expect this kind of respect between strangers on a cruise ship, unfortunately, which is extremely frustrating during busy times at the lifts and at the Windjammer. I'll have to use profanity get closer to the true feeling of the frustration. You have to pay for bottled water. The buffet food is fine but gets boring after the first day; it's just not appealing. There are restaurants which you had to pay for, which were a bit hit and miss, but better than the buffet food. We had low expectations for the sushi place, but were pleasantly surprised. The only disappointment was when we asked for a recommendation for a popular roll as it wasn't that great compared to the rolls we had just eaten and expensive! The teppanyaki is expensive, too, and disappointing for, though it was a unique and entertaining experience. However, I've had better teppanyaki at a lower price and could have done without the entertainment. We went to another restaurant with a name like 'Creation' or 'Imagination' which costed EUR 50 per person, which was a bit pretentious. I would have liked to have chosen what I wanted to eat, rather than only being allowed to choose a main whilst the rest they would choose for me. The group that sat next to us also wanted to order what they wanted from the menu rather than being 'surprised'. It sounded like they were frustrated and having a bad day. I think the restaurant should have made it more obvious up-front about the cost and how the menu worked, but I suspect it would have put-off people from eating there. I've had tastier meals at this price point. There is a formal dinner night where you have to wear a tuxedo (you can hire this on board) if you're a guy and want to go. You also have to reserve a place at the free formal dinner at the main dining room, too. If you prefer your buffet food to be served to you in nice surroundings, this is the place to go, but if you have half a brain, you just go to the buffet and save time and being disappointed. I never went to the formal dinner but supposedly the surf and turf is free for that night when it was about $35 when it was a normal dining evening. I had a bite of the lobster ravioli one night at the beginning and it put me off from going again. I complained to the chefs that came round to be only told that they weren't actually chefs (stooges) and had to complain to an actual waiter! I doubt wearing a penguin suit at the formal night would make the food taste any better. If you already have a tuxedo, it might be worth trying. As nice as dressing up maybe for a formal night, I think it makes some people think they are more important than they really are (rude). They say you can't buy class but I prefer the saying: you can’t polish a turd. Some of the events on board are free, so there is a free-for-all mentality, which means pushing and shoving, abuse (I'm talking about you two ladies at The Fine Line show on 12SEP2016 and the old man who prodded me, as next time I'll ruin your evening like you did mine). It saddens me that I had to assume everyone was an idiot onboard after this, though ironically nothing bad happened after this. Why do I have to walk around with a face that I'm expecting trouble before people start behaving respectfully around me? Idiots! Everything not included and you have to buy onboard is expensive. It would have been nice to have a basic grocery store, but it would have probably been shockingly expensive. Just as an example, I had to buy paracetamol and it was about EUR 15 for 24 tablets, but when I buy a generic at my local grocery store, it's less than EUR 1. I mentioned bottled water has to be paid for as it's not included on the cheaper daily drinks package, so the dilemma of should you buy a drinks package or should you just buy a drink when you are thirsty arises. I overheard a couple discussing about buying a drinks package and frustrated how expensive they were whilst I was waiting for my overpriced juice at the Vitality bar. It sounded like they were not having a good time because of how expensive everything was that had to be paid for and probably disappointed on the quality of all the free stuff. For me, with hindsight, it would have been cheaper to buy as I needed rather than buying a package as I just don't drink that amount of soda or beer! Just to frustrate matters, you can only buy one drink at a time, even though your package is unlimited, so you have to finish your drink and re-queue for another drink, which actually is infuriating. There was unlimited brand name soda available, but you had to buy a special cup to use the machine. The air in the casino was terrible. My opinion is this is just an expensive packaged holiday and you’ll be fed up with the amount of idiots on board. Put another way, if you disliked what I have written, this cruise is for you. If you liked it, you won't. The stereotypes are true about the typical people that go on cruises, along with the stereotypes on those stereotypes. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the crew member who died. We will never know if one of the guests onboard sabotaged that lifeboat. Read Less

I cruised on Oasis two years and thought I knew exactly what to expect from the ship. However, Harmony is even better than Oasis, especially for teens. The water slides and Abyss were big hits with my children. Other than the ship itself, everything was worse as compared to my experience on Oasis. The service is not nearly as good. Staff did not go out of their way to make sure customers are happy. My cabin steward was not friendly. The service at bars was also pretty bad. The entertainment was also pretty mediocre. The only show that I was really impressed with was Fine Line -- aqua show. The rest were nothing to speak of. The biggest disappointed was the wine package. Royal Caribbean used to offer customers to buy bottles of wine. Now you get wine by glass and for nearly $40 per day the quality of the wine is atrocious. It is such rip off. Please avoid buying wine and beer package. I did not buy shore excursions form the ship. I booked private tours which ended up being more cost effective and customized for me and my travel companions. Read Less

Trip was for Granddaughter to see some highlights of Europe... Especially of Barcelona, Florence, Rome and Naples. The staff for the most part was quite good. Loved the concierge in the Diamond Lounge, our cabin steward and our waiters. Had a 2+ hour wait in line to get to see a member of the Guest Relations staff. In calling for a wake-up call, had often a 5 to 10 minute wait to speak to someone. One morning no wake-up call was given although requested. Changes in photo services were terrible. Do not get to see printed photos. Photo proof stamped ALL over the digital proof... often could not tell whether eyes were closed or what the smile or facial expression looked like. Staff was not particularly helpful and often rude. After prints are chosen it take 3 or more hours to have them printed. (Another trip to photo shop needed) Ship has NO table sharing for breakfast or lunch. Sharing a table with other cruisers has been one of my very favorite experiences in cruising. On Harmony, if there are just 2 of you, you will be seated alone...no sharing of tables is the stated host policy. Have a much limited menu offering. No seeded rolls... There was no nightly chilled soup offering...did have delicious Vichyssoise one evening. Very athletic granddaughter did not want to go to pool area after one day as the lines for all the fun activities were too long and the chorine in pool (without goggles) was really painful to eyes. Without help from diamond concierge, she would not have been able to ice skate. Entirely too many enrollees for time slots available. Entertainment was very nice but having to see shows at 11:00 pm was certainly undesirable for those who had tours EARLY morning the next day. No other choices for cruisers who had traditional late dining. No guest lecturers. Only talks pushing additional charges aboard ship.... nickel and dime stuff for more RCCL revenue. Terrible 2 hour lines in hot sun for taxi cabs at end of cruise. Without Diamond Plus Status, this cruise (in comparison to my other RCCL cruises) would have been excruciatingly awful. Will consciously make huge effort to only cruise/book Radiance and Vision class ships with occasional booking on the Voyager class. I will consciously avoiding RCCL ships that imitate a crowded shopping mall. Thumbs up on the Itinerary and most of the staff but thumbs down on the Harmony and the lines, crowds and new policies. Just spent 39 days on the Radiance and it was one of the best cruises ever and the Harmony was one of the worst...including Carnival and NCL. Please don't abandon the smaller ship's concepts. This was our 4th cruise with Royal Caribbean .We cruised twice on 'Navigator' and once on 'Jewel'. We flew to Rome and then embarkation and disembarkation were very smooth. We were 5 persons in cabins 6300 and 6314. The service and cleanliness in our cabins were excellent thanks to our friendly cabin steward. The only disappointment was that my husband and I had noisy neighbours with children running, jumping and shouting till late at night. The evening shows were fantastic. We saw 'Grease', 'Colombus', the 'Ice Show' and the 'Water Show'. Our granddaughter had a wonderful time in the pool and on the Carousel. 'My time dining' was not that efficient. Sometimes there was an air of confusion. Waiters and staff were kept extremely busy with so many people arriving at different times. We prefer the old system with two sitting at a set time. Our waitress Maria and her assistant Karol were very friendly but we only sat at the same table three times, then we were given a different table and staff for the rest of the cruise. We were disappointed with the high cost of the ship's photos. We bought the package, that is, all the photos were given to us on a pen-drive. We decided to have 10 of them printed against payment at $5 each. Usually we were given a ship's album for free to protect the photos. This time our photos were handed to us in a plastic bag. If we wanted the album we had to pay for it. To think that previously all photos were printed and many of them were not bought, money has been saved!! On our next cruise we won't buy any photos, we'll buy a new camera instead! We did our own shore excursions. We took a taxi from La Spezia to Pisa, a taxi to Marseille city centre and a taxi to La Sagrada Familia and then to the centre in Barcellona. All were efficient and at a reasonable price. In Palma de Mallorca we used the cruise shuttle. Overall the cruise was fantastic and we're glad we spent 7 wonderful days on the fantastic 'Harmony of the Seas'. We have enjoied every minute in the ship. We have ate at the Main dining room and the windjammer and food was excellent. The shows were the best part of our cruise, we suggest everybody to book all the shows in advance , and come early to get good seat before the show. we loved all the shows but especially we loved the Columbus show and the Fine line (aqua theatre show) . At Barcelona we went to the Aquarium, our children love it. At La spezia we traveled to Cinque terra, It was wonderful trip. at all other ports we have stayed at the ship, and enjoied the pools and all ship's activities. Till now we have sailed on the Liberty an the Allure , this was our best cruise ! Read Less

Wanted a fun ship for the kids. My husband and I have cruised 10 times on various lines: Princess (most), other RC, Oceania, Disney, and Carnival. We have always experienced exceptional service on cruises... until this one. With 6500 passengers, they were about 800 crew short of meeting expectations (passenger to crew ratio was 3.8). Slides and rock climbing wall and others closed during parts of the day... I sat at the pool on the "at sea" day for 6 hours and not one single person came to see if I needed a drink etc... you can't find food at all hours -- they close food venues and the windjammer buffet was so poorly staffed that tables were very slow to buss (I bussed my own twice just to get a seat)... they nickel-and-dimed us to the point of ridiculousness (on the Boardwalk, it costs $2.50 PLUS 18% GRATUITY for a small box of popcorn) and they add on 18% to everything, even a bottle of water. We paid for the soda package but the soda machines were always broken so you had to roam all over the ship to find any! The lack of staff is obviously felt by the staff as well -- I never before saw so many glum faces. We chatted with them and they feel overworked, underappreciated, and have missed the personal feel you get with a smaller ship. We really felt sorry for them as there just were not enough staff. And then, unless you buy an excursion, good luck getting any help as soon as you set foot off the ship -- not even directions off the pier! Be prepared that if you do the "Pisa on your own" or the "Pompey on your own" they don't even get you in the group line for tickets -- we had 2 hours in Pompey but it took 52 minutes to get through the ticket line -- everyone on the bus was upset. We had an outside balcony on Deck 14 -- WARNING IT IS UNDER THE TEEN AREA OR THE POOL DECK OR THE MINI GOLF -- you hear footsteps running at all hours of the night. We thought we would try a new big ship to see what it was like. We had just got off the Celebrity Reflection for a cruise around the Greek Islands and seeing we were in Europe we took the opportunity to try this new ship. Embarkation went smoothly and we were on board within 10 mins which was great. The ship is amazing and beautiful. We were lucky to get an upgrade to a balcony and the cabins were spacious and well laid out but I do think that they could have taken a bit of space where the extra cupboard was and made the bathroom bigger. Unfortunately we forgot about European school holidays so the ship was at full capacity with over 6000 passengers. We were told that the dining was to be all anytime dining so we chose to dine at 7pm every night. On the first night we were taken to our table and told if we didn't like where we were sitting to tell them at the end of the meal and we could change tables but it was fine so we said nothing. The next night when we went to dinner we were allocated another table and when we questioned it they said the table we had the night before was taken, so every night we had a different table. While the meals were nice and the waiters great, we felt that we were rushed so that they could get the next lot of people through. We only went to the buffet once for breakfast as it was so crowded and badly laid out that it was a nightmare to get your food and try and find a table before your food got cold. Each section had different things so I was looking for baked beans and I had to go to 3 different sections to find them and they are so far apart that when I did finally find them it took time again to find where my daughter was sitting. We found it much nicer to go and have breakfast at Jonhy Rockets each morning which was also free and you can sit outside. All the shows were great and we enjoyed them all. The casino was a big disappointment. We enjoy going to the casino when we go cruising and like to play roulette but we were furious when we were told the chips were $5 each instead of a $1 a chip. As for the poker machines they have certainly been programmed to the ships advantage as none of them were paying out anything. I have been on many cruises and have never seen payouts so bad. Another problem was the smoking in the casino. It was very smelly and uncomfortable even though they only allowed it on one side of the casino the smoke was still extremely bad as people kept smoking on the wrong side and staff were not paying enough attention to it also as it was a major walk though from the theatres there were kids constantly standing with there parents watching the machines being played. I felt sorry for the poor dealers that had to put up with people smoking at the gaming tables blowing smoke into their faces all night. You would think that on such a big ship they would allow smoking inside in case of a fire. People were standing at the entry to casino with their kids so they didn't have to go outside to smoke so it was pretty disgusting. The solarium was nice but it needed a pool. Due to it being the school holidays around the pools outside were very crowded and no chairs to be found. The only other problem was they had 2 embarkation days, one in Rome and one in Spain so when they did the fire drill for the passengers in Barcelona every thing was shut down for 1/12 hours. Overall I think if it wasn't school holidays it might have been a little better, but we enjoyed our cruise except for the above problems. I think we will stick to a mid size ships in the future. This time service was bad, restaurants were packed jam not like other big cruises we took, staff somehow unfriendly & on board spending was way too high, much higher than other trips we took. They try to make money in each step you take on board. Room were better than expected but tooooo noisy. Entertainment on board was bad. Did not like & will never repeat. We had a dispute with our bill, it took us almost 2 hours the last 3 days of our trip standing in line in order to resolve. Food at one point is tasteless & repetitive. I believe because the number of customers were high, staff were edgy. Not all staff though,m we encountered some extremely friendly staff. We used to cruise thinking its good value for money. I chose this cruise for my 40th birthday gift. I traveled with my husband along with my best friend and her husband. The itinerary was what initially peaked my interest. When I saw that the ship was brand new, I was even more sold. Harmony is truly an amazing vessel. There is so much to do aboard. I wish we had more time. Embarkation in Civitevecchia was a breeze, five minutes tops!! The ship was gleaming with newness! We were greeted with a smile by staff everywhere we went. Staff was extremely helpful and polite. We did my time dining so we were not supposed to have a set table every night. The head waiter went out of his way to seat us with our favorite waitstaff for most nights. The dining staff was exceptional. They truly went above and beyond. We thought the food in the main dining room was great. We also snacked at Sorrentos pizza and the Park Cafe. We only dined in the buffet once or twice simply because we preferred breakfast in the dining room. We enjoy being served our meals. We saw Grease and the Fine Line. We enjoyed both shows. Be sure to reserve ahead of time as they do get very crowded. The ship can feel crowded at times but I didn't find it was any more crowded than smaller ships I have been on. All ports were beautiful. We did a few excursions through Royal and chose to explore on our own in Mallorca and Barcelona. The only negative comments I have are about smoking. The casino was located right next to the dining rooms and the odor of smoke traveled into the dining area. My friend went to the gym one morning and had to leave because of cigarette smoke. Apparently a designated smoking area is located right near the gym. Poor planning on Royal's part and this should definitely be fixed. All in all, it was a great trip. Read Less

This is the sixth cruise sailing however the very first one with Royal Caribean: I must say that my spouse and I had high expectations from the ship itself and they were met and exceeded by far! The evening shows portrayed amazing talent! We made it a point to see each and every show: Colombus and The Fine Line were our favourites. Well done! We tried all activities on board: zip lining, flow rider (my husband!), rock climbing, carousel, table tennis, waterslides, abyss: too many to mention!! We also went to the Escape the Rubicon: this was a surprisingly fun and creative game which we loved. Pity it was not as much advertised and very difficult to book! GRACE (from the UK) was our team leader who made this an unforgettable experience! Ultimate Abyss would have been better if the rider would slide further at the end bit: it was rather frustrating that you stop inside the tunnel of the slide. All activities were free of charge which was a plus! Themed evenings were great though it was a pity that the Let's Celebrate show was on the very first night of embarkation as we missed it due to our (back then) unfamiliarity to the Royal Carribean schedule. Also, we felt that these events had a very limited duration (ex: the 90s party was only 30 minutes and we were just getting started when it was all over so soon). Voom was provided to us complimentary by our travel agent and it was great! We highly recommend it. We also downloaded Royal IQ and used it quite often. The only down side of this App is that you are not able to book all shows and/or activities on it (ex: Stand Up Comedy and The Fine Line and Escape the Rubicon). A suggestion would be to also add the dining bookings on this App as well as adding the 'text messaging between guests' complimentary rather than at a fee. Food and service were amazing! The main dining area we were in was Grande and we must give a shout out to our fabulous waiter RAMZI BEN (from Tunisia): your friendly nature and pro-activeness was second to none! Well done also goes to EVA (from Czech Republic) at Grande and SCHUBERT at Chops Grille! Karaoke at On Air and the entertainment at the spanish bar (opposite The Air) and Dazzles was great. It was a pity though that entertainment and bars tend to close down at 01:00. Would have loved having longer opening hours. Casino - another amazing area that cannot be missed! The Harmony of the Seas is an amazing ship. The only suggestion would be to decrease the waiting time for the elevators as I believe this could be easily improved. Boarding was easy , cabin position good .Shows excellent , plenty of sun beds even on sea day.. Our one disappointment was the menu in the Grand eat there only 3 times. No shorts rule was not enforced in restaurants in the evening would recommend the Solarium bistro. Central Park was lovely a great place to relax with a drink in the evening, good bar staff in schooner bar as well. Enjoyed all shows , Grease, Columbus, 1887 and both Aqua shows. As the ship is huge it seems that the only place to park it is in container areas. To get to town on a shuttle in one port was a charge of 18 dollars . We went to Rome on the train at a cost of 13Euros and Herculaneum by bus and train for 9Euros each . We stayed on the ship in Marseille and La Spieza . All in all a good holiday would sail on Harmony again. Read Less

This was the first time we were taking the kids (12 & 15 to Europe), so we looked for a cruise with the right destinations. We chose Royal Caribbean Harmony of the Seas because it was sailing to the ports we were interested (Italy, Spain and France) in visiting AND because the ship had amazing activities for the kids. It was the perfect way to see so many places yet return to the ship each day. We didn't have to move our luggage. We arranged for guides at most of the destinations so we would go, go go at the ports and then come back to the ship to relax. Last year, we took a family cruise to Alaska and I'm so thankful we did that cruise first because the ships in that area DO NOT have the amenities that this boat has. Our family is forever ruined after cruising on this ship. We were a party of 6 (70, 65, 41, 43 and 15 and 12). We had 3 balcony cabins and we opened up the balconies so that we could walk back and forth. The ship met all of our needs and the kids LOVED it! I had read a few reviews that scared me about My Time Dining and about the ship not being ready. First, the boat is 100% complete, we had 0 problems. The boat is fabulous and we felt no movement. I was nervous about the capacity of the boat and feeling crowded and that never happened. The layout of the ship is done very well. I've been other other cruises where it takes the whole week to learn the layout, not with this ship. Also, this was our first time to do My Time Dining. I was worried that we would have to wait a long time to eat, not the case at all. When you board the boat, on the main deck, go to the reservations station and book a reservation for the first few nights that work out with your itinerary. Schedule 2 hours for dinner (this will give you time if you've booked a show). Then as the week progresses you can book additional reservations at the hostess stand. The only downside if you don't get the same table each night is that you get a different team of waiters each night. I was also very unnecessarily worried about booking shows. This was our first Royal Caribbean cruise and i was not familiar with the booking of shows online, so I mistakenly never checked out my cart. If you do not book your shows before hand (which would be helpful), you can book them as soon as you board on the main deck. I was worried because Grease was showing as sold out, so i thought we wouldn't get to see it. NOT the case. They reserve seats for those that don't book ahead. Just make sure you have 2 hours to eat dinner, or you will miss a show. ALSO, I recommend signing all waivers online at home before you go. HOWEVER, if you do not, there is 1 place onboard that you can sign all the waivers in 1 place. The ice-skating rink desk (you will need each of your kid's cards), then you can sign all their waivers (for zip lining, rock-climbing, ice-skating, flow-rider). If you don't do it at home and you don't do it here, you will have to go to each of the activities! Another tip, I recommend the kids take a pair of tennis and socks with them in a small bag. Each activity has requirements (skating must have pants and socks, zip lining- must be dry and have socks and shoes, rock climbing, needs socks and shoes) and they need their card for each of them. Make sure you have long pants for skating or tall socks. My daughter had low socks and her exercise pants came to the shin, she rubbed a terrible blister! The Entertainment on the boat surpassed our expectations. The comedian was really great, Grease was fantastic, the musicians were very good. We did all of our own excursions and guides and booked through Drive-in-Rome (HIGHLY recommend) and Trip Advisor in Barcelona. I really do not recommend booking cruise excursions unless you like going places in large groups. Also, I found that people dressed up a bit more on Royal Caribbean than on other ships. Also, the embarkation and disembarkation was a piece of cake. 1/2 the people get on in Rome and 1/2 in Barcelona, so it's very nice. You must have a pre-arranged driver booked to take you or pick you up from Civetaveckia. We will definitely look for another Royal Caribbean cruise with a ship like the Harmony. It was amazing. My wife and I sailed out of Civitacchia for this cruise after spending a week in Rome. We had completed all the pre-sailing check in information, and as a result, the time from arrival at the port to walking aboard the ship was less than 15 minutes- a very very smooth check in process! Our first impression of the ship- Wow! It was clean, it was fresh, and it was inviting! I will say here, that almost every single crew member we encountered was cheerful, and ready to serve. We were very impressed with the number of attendants that were happy to engage us in conversation. Many of these people did not use English as their first language. Kudos to RCI on finding so many staff that are personable and confident in dealing with the public. This was our first experience with a cruise that had 2 embarkation points (Civitavecchia and Barcelona). There are good and bad points to this. On the positive side, it made the check in process much less hectic, as fewer than 1/3 of the ship came aboard in Civitavecchia. Also, we very much enjoyed a "mostly empty" pool area the morning we arrived in Barcelona as they experienced their disembarking/embarking. On a negative side, much of the ship was on "shut down" as the new passengers attended the mandatory safety/muster drill. Our dining experience had only one flaw in what we would describe as exceptional: "My Time Dining". When booking the cruise, we spoke with an agent who assured us that we would be able to use the same table each night at the same time in the main dining room, thus ensuring we would have the same wait staff each evening. We enjoy getting to know our waiter/waitress and assistants- as well as those who sit near us. However, on the third evening, we discovered that our waitress, Kavina, had been moved up one floor to a new area. We were told we could be assured of our 6:30 dining time, but not having the same table/ wait staff. Each night, we had to impress on the supervisors at the dining room that yes, we could have the same waitress. We did prevail, and had the pleasure of Kavina serving us each night. She is an exemplary waitress with a wonderful personality! Following our meal each night, the wine steward, Errol, would come and share the shooter choice of the day. Errol was also a wonderful treat- a man with an infectious laugh and truly sincere personality. The food each night was excellent. Entertainment on board was quite good. We enjoyed the "Columbus" show, as well as "Grease", and the Aqua show. The entertainment director's staff running events such as trivia were also very good. These same people also put in many extra hours at "Dazzles" night club dancing in '50's costumes and making that evening even more fun to experience. We both had a number of opportunities to try the "Zip Line". We were surprised that the line ups for this were manageable- usually only having to wait 15- 20 minutes at most. The line ups for the Flo Rider were similar. We only tried the water slide once- the afternoon of our first day. There was almost no one in line as many people were on shore excursions to Rome. During the rest of the cruise, the line ups were huge, and we didn't bother to spend time waiting. This cruise was what I would call "Port Heavy". There was only one cruising day. In Naples, we took the shore excursion for Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. This excursion was very good, however, there was quite a long drive to get to Amalfi, that used a very narrow winding road along steep cliffs. Once in Pompeii, our guide was very knowledgeable and we would highly recommend seeing this historical site. The beach excursion in Palma de Mallorca was greatly relaxing. In Marseilles, we chose the "Cassis" tour, which again, involved a very long, winding drive before arriving at the destination. We booked a private tour of the calanques while in Cassis. It was money well spent. Our overall experience on this cruise was excellent! The staff, the ship, and the food more than met our expectations. Any reservations we may have had about sailing on the largest cruise ship in the world with the most passengers, were quickly alleviated, and we found "Harmony of the Seas" to be one of our best cruise experiences to date! Everything in the cabin was "ship shape", what you expect of a brand new ship. Enough electrical outlets, but be aware that most of them are the U.S. type. Only one Euro outlet. Both dining and entertainment was excellent, at least those we visited ;-) Ship is spacious, and most of the time you can't tell that is 6000+ guests onboard. Have been on the Allure earlier, and some of the changes I did not like: Missed the candy store and ice cream bar on Boardwalk, and in my opinion Starbucks located on Royal Promenade was better. Area with Royal IQ iPads took too much space. Everyone in staff was great! Read Less

We were on the Harmony of the Seas for a 7 day Med cruise from Rome departing Rome on July 14, 2016. My rating on the ship and cruise is really 4.5 stars (but I couldn't figure-out how to show that in the star rating above). Overall very attentive staff and the food was generally excellent. Areas that need improvement are the Guest Services desk which was often almost a mob scene. I got around that by taking care of any business with them very early - just after 6 AM. FOOD: We were not very impressed with Jamie's Italian and probably wouldn't go back there. Counter balancing that negative, we found the Japanese Tepenyaki restaurant to be absolutely outstanding. Chops was good to excellent as usual on RCI's big ships. ENTERTAINMENT: Grease was a very well done production show and we enjoyed it very much. There was a computer glitch the night we were booked for Grease and that show was cancelled. However, it was rescheduled which worked-out fine for us. The Comedy Club appears to have gone Politically Correct - and was MUCH less enjoyable than on the Allure and Oasis. OTHER COMMENTS: We were shocked that the Harmony of the Seas has no Chapel. I'm sure this is another Politically Correct move by RCI but we found the deletion of the Chapel to be disturbing. ROME AS A CRUISE PORT: Since we had never seen Rome, it was a very important part of our trip - and we are really glad we saw the major Historical Sites. That said, in the future, I would not select Rome as a departure or Arrival point for a cruise. This for 2 reasons: (1) the distance of the port from Rome, and (2) the fact that getting thru the Rome airport for departure was a super over-crowded, at times shoving hassle, that I don't need in my life on vacation. CABIN: Our Deluxe Ocean view exceeded expectations with more room and a much nicer shower than on the Allure and Oasis - and better than most cruise ships. This was a pleasant surprise. We have sailed with Royal Caribbean many times before, and have loved all our previous cruises. We booked this trip mainly for the Western Mediterranean Cruise from Rome since we wanted to spend time in Rome afterward; when we found out that it was going to be on the Harmony and how huge the ship was, we were worried, as we hadn't been on a ship larger than the Explorer of the Seas-- however, we were happy to try t and excited to try something new. The Good: Check-in time was very fast and easy; we were on-board and able to relax with some champagne and wait comfortably until our room was ready right before 1:00. Our Junior Suite was spacious and very clean; we loved having the lounge chairs on the balcony and the balcony design which didn't block views when sitting. Our room attendant was attentive and tracked down our missing luggage. (However he was not as attentive as other room attendants as we have had on other ships.) Our dining room meals were very good; we enjoyed our meals, and our waiter was good, we had an excellent table. The Maitre'D was terrific and went out of his way to make us happy. We enjoyed our excursions to Naples, Pompeii and Barcelona, and loved Portevenere and Cinque Terre. Room Service was a pleasure for breakfast in the morning, and we like the complimentary treats we received one evening. "Grease" was very good and fun, the "1887" ice show was enjoyable, and "The Fine Line" was absolutely amazing and jaw-dropping. The Solarium was a nice place to escape the crowds of people some days. The Bad: The Harmony of the Seas is way too big. It is so big that Royal Caribbean cannot provide the kind of service it touts and we have been provided on all our other cruises. We noticed the lack of friendliness from the crew when passing them on other parts of the ship-- so many of them look unhappy. Service is lackluster. In addition, we were told to make reservations for shows, which we did; yet, Royal Caribbean staff allowed people and kids to push into the shows late, and did nothing when kids ran up and down the aisles, blocking views, or jumped up and down on the seats and were disruptive, making it difficult to enjoy "Grease". The food in the Windjammer was not good; it was very hard to find a seat, and again was overrun with kids who pushed people out of the way to get in line and ran around. We avoided the Windjammer as much as we could. Further, every night once we left Barcelona, kids ran up and down the hallways from 10 p.m. until midnight; we called Guest Services to complain but no one answered the phone. The Solarium is supposed to be "adults-only", which was never enforced by the staff-- not in the Solarium nor in the hot tub. Very disappointing. (As an aside, we have been on other cruises when the Captain made announcements telling parents that they needed to control their children as the cruise was suppose to be enjoyable for everyone. Why couldn't it have been done on this one as well?) Although we loved the running track, why would Royal Caribbean put it right above the Main Dining Room? It sounded as if a herd of elephants was stampeding above our heads when we were eating. There is also not much to do if you don't want to go to any of the seminars to lose weight, look younger, etc. Almost all the adult daily activities have a fee associated with them, unlike on the other ships -- we felt as if we were being nickeled-and dimed. Drink prices were also extremely high ($16 for a martini-- but it was a very good martini; $14 per glass for a white wine which costs $10 a bottle in the US-- we laughed)-- we expected a high mark-up but these were REALLY HIGH. This was not a cheap cruise; it was not a lot of fun and not what we had hoped or wanted. Usually at the end of a cruise, we are sad to leave the ship; this time, we could not wait to leave. If we ever sail with Royal Caribbean again, it sure won't be on the Harmony! Read Less

This was a family cruise - 9 of us in total including 3 kids under 10 and 5 first time cruisers. The first time cruisers will definitely not be one time cruisers! EMABARKATION / DISEMBARKATION - flawless process - we boarded in Civitivecchia- had all the online checkin completed in advance so probably no more than 20 minutes from taxi to boarding the ship. Luggage was delivered a couple of hours after boarding - the cabin was ready about 12.30pm. I actually liked the interporting process - only about 1300 boarded in civitivecchia so it was really easy and because so many got off in Barcelona we basically had the ship to ourselves for a few hours! CABIN - we had a balcony cabin on deck 11 midship - cabin was spacious , bright , modern and very clean. Storage was good and the bathroom was well appointed. Toiletries are not provided as standard but if you ask they will get them for you without any problem. The bed was very firm but strangely comfortable! Our cabin steward was not the chattiest we have ever had but he was polite and did his job well. We had 3 towel animals across the 7 nights. We had the surf and stream wifi package and it worked flawlessly everywhere on the ship. Faster than my home connection. PUBLIC AREAS - The ship is simply stunning. Very impressive and definitely fully finished! It includes lots of "areas". Central Park was my favorite - very relaxing to sit in a park on a ship and listen to the birds singing (they actually pipe in the sound of birds singing to make for an authentic experience! There are many more - the boardwalk with the ultimate abyss slide ( my wife tried this - I was too chicken - she loved it!) , the promenade with shops and bars , casino , pool decks , solarium (I have to say I much prefer the solarium on quantum class ships - just has a much nicer feel to it ). We enjoyed Dazzles nightclub - some really good singers and bands and we also enjoyed the schooner bar - good for people watching on the promenade while listening to a good piano player! I have made this point on a previous review for anthem of the seas but I still feel that the shops are too skewed towards luxury high end goods. The ship never really felt crowded - quite often one looked around and wondered where 6000+ people were. FOOD - I am happy to be able to say that the food was of a very high standard - and this was the opinion of all in our group. We ate in the MDR (both formal nights ) , windjammer , wonderland , Jamie's , chops grille , park cafe etc etc! Food good , service excellent. Special mention to our waiters in the MDR and chops - they went out of their way to change dishes around for us and the kids to suit our tastes - nothing was too much trouble. ENTERTAINMENT - first class. Grease , fine line , iceskating shows , Columbus , puzzle break room, tenors of rock ( had seen them on ovation earlier this year) - the first time cruisers in our party said the entertainment was the highlight for them - a lot of effort has gone in to this programme - the result is superb. STAFF - with only one or two minor exceptions the staff we encountered were friendly , helpful , smiling and a credit to the ship and the company. We are firmly of the opinion that if we treat the staff with respect they will give us a good experience and I have yet to be proved wrong. I still cringe when I see how some fellow cruisers speak to some of the crew. We met some really interesting crew members and had some very interesting chats - especially with the bar man from the boot and bonnet who was on the anthem during the storm in the Atlantic earlier this year! PORTS - we had been to all the ports on this cruise before so we only got off the ship twice - this cruise was all about the ship! In conclusion we had an amazing time on harmony. A few weeks ago I finished my 7-night cruise of the Mediterranean with Harmony of the Seas. This was my 15th cruise with Royal Caribbean and first cruise on an Oasis class ship, so I was very glad to see the usual Royal Caribbean touches onboard. There were many things that surprised me about this amazing ship and fantastic cruise. Embarkation Our sailing was the first sailing in which new passengers boarded in Rome so I was expecting it to be a very slow process, but it was the contrary. We made it from the pier to the ship in less than thirty minutes. Though this is a longer number compared to those who board in Barcelona, we arrived before they began the check in process so we had to wait for about twenty minutes. We were in and out of the check-in line in less than five minutes. A tip for inexperienced cruisers, with Royal Caribbean, you don't have to show up to the port at the time they tell you. You can actually show up much earlier around 10:30-11:00 depending on the sailing. By doing this you can maximize your time onboard and get the most for your money. You can also enjoy a tour of the ship while it still has very few people on board. Ship Being a new ship, all of the public areas were spotless. When we first arrived in port, our jaws dropped to the floor. The size of the ship compared to any we had ever seen was truly remarkable. It does take a while to get used to the differences between this ship and other ships in the fleet. The sheer size and different layout make it an activity in itself just to try to explore every part of the ship. Good luck trying to see everything because even after a week onboard we still hadn't seen everything! I like how the company has changed their interior design to create a more sleek and modern design. It is a very refreshing change after being on so many other ships. Entertainment Harmony of the Seas has some amazing entertainment. Both of the theatre shows, Grease and Columbus the Musical, were outstanding, but I would go as far to say Columbus was better! Grease had a lot of crude gestures that are definitely not child-friendly. The singing was good, but this was something I had trouble getting past. Columbus was incredible! Before we got on board we didn't know about this and we hadn't heard about it until we were on the theatre tour and everyone was raving about it. We decided to check it out on the Rome passenger only showing and it was my favorite Royal Caribbean show I've ever seen and I have seen many. The show is fun and modern and has a lot of music that everyone can sing along to, which really is something special. The ending was also very creative. Columbus is a must! The Aqua Show was another story. The cast was very talented, but they chose to spotlight someone spinning in a circle for ten minutes (we counted), running on a treadmill, and cracking a whip randomly. Don't skip this show as it was still good, but leaps and bounds behind the normal theatre performances. Cabin We had a superior ocean view stateroom with balcony. This was probably the largest regular balcony stateroom on any RCI ship. This is due to the fact that Harmony is a meter or two wider than Oasis and Allure and the line smartly put this space into rooms instead of public areas. The room was very tidy, due in part by being only the ninth or tenth group of people to use the room, but also the fantastic stateroom cleaning staff. There was plenty of storage space, a large bathroom, and a great balcony. I would stay in this cabin again and again. Dining This is the category that Harmony slacked a little bit in, but it was still much better than other RCI ships. On our first day, they were serving filet mignon in the windjammer from Chops! They probably did this to get more people coming to Chops, but they did go out of their way to give us a great first windjammer experience. The rest of the food for the week there was good, but nothing special. The dining room also seemed to be a step above compared to our last cruises. Our staff, Carlington and Hank, were both engaging, fun, and made for a great dining room experience. A lot of the food was much better than in memory, probably because of a consolidated menu. Though there was a smaller menu, they increased the number of "Classic" menu items, which are on the menu every day. We also ate at Chops, which was fantastic as usual. Activities Harmony is jam packed with activities to do, but even all of the new things such as the Ultimate Abyss or the Perfect Storm waterslides had very short lines. The longest I waited for the Abyss was five minutes and the longest for the slides was probably around ten minutes and these were both on sea days. The Ultimate Abyss; What a thrill! First, you stand on a glass platform and you can look down ten stories to the Aqua theatre, then you are sent through multiple fast turns to the bottom. Incredibly fun for all ages. Just keep your knees down or you risk a burn. The waterslides were also all very fun and it was good to see them added. Many say that this is copying other lines, but RCI is just trying to improve their customer experience which I fully endorse. Other Royal activities on many other ships like Flowrider and mini golf were also quite fun. Harmony is very good at reducing crowds and a lot of the time, I felt that there were fewer people than there actually were. Even though the teen areas were expansive, I decided not to use them because I had boarded in Rome, so most of the kids already onboard knew each other and would be leaving in only three days. My family also did the escape room, Escape the Rubicon. This gem is kept under wraps and not publically advertised too much, as there is very limited space during the cruise, probably only about 600 out of the 5,000+ people per sailing. Debs was very fun and the puzzles were quite challenging. This would probably land in the top three things I have done on a cruise ship. The other two would probably be both varieties of slides on Harmony. Service Most service onboard was great. Carlington and Hank were some of the best dining room staff we have had in a while. The coffee guy at Cafe Promenade was also very attentive and learned our names and orders very quickly. We didn't even need to ask, he just knew! Almost all of the staff went above and beyond on our cruise and there are too many to write about, but I do have one warning. There is one woman on the bar staff who could be the worst employee have ever seen. On the first day, she passes out the Coca-Cola freestyle cups in the Royal Promenade. She is beyond rude and hates her job. If you see her, do not engage. Repeat. Do not engage. You will be flooded with sass, rude behavior, and slow service. At the ice show, we gave her our SeaPass card for one of our free diamond drinks at 8:20, and the promotion ends at 8:30 every day. She took the entire ten minutes, then proceeded to charge us because she took too much time. All of this without any kind of remorse and a grimace on her face. She worked at every show we went to. If possible, order from another bar staff member. Becuase of our experiences with this 'delightful' woman, we gave her the nickname Sunshine. We did get a good laugh when another passenger tried to order from her and they received the same 'warm rays of sunshine' that we did. But this was just one isolated case. She was actually the only bad employee we encountered on our cruise. I guess there is always a sour apple, but we didn't let this one spoil the bunch. Overall, we had another fantastic cruise with Royal and we will be back next year as well, but sadly not Harmony. I would probably choose to sail on Harmony again before sailing on her sister ships. My cruise with Harmony exceeded expectations. Every part of the cruise was amazing. P.S. Many of the poor reviews on this website for this ship are from back in May, when the ship was still being finished. I can promise, the ship is complete and their reviews that say it isn't so are now obsolete. Look through the more recent reviews as they are the ones that got to experience the true Harmony of the Seas. Do not let these reviews stop you from booking on this fantastic ship! Read Less

We are loyal Royal Caribbean cruisers and selected this itinerary as we have enjoyed the European cruises and the beautiful ports the past few summers. The bonus here was the new ship- we just had to see what Harmony had to offer from the start. Overall- we had little disappointment. In summary, we are booked on her again for Spring Break 2017 as she moves to the Caribbean. Embarkation: This was fantastic. We arrived in Civitavecchia the evening before, staying at a hotel close by. We had door to door shuttle service from the hotel (Hotel San Giorgio) to the port on a full size bus- we were the only ones. We dropped off our bags, waited only a few minutes in the "holding area", and checked right in. We joined the cruise as the inter-port stop, so this may have been a factor to the speedy process (I'd guess only about 25% of the boat checked in at the Rome port as most join in Barcelona). Overall probably the smoothest check in we have seen in 15+ cruises. Cabin: Fantastic. Royal has done a nice job reorganizing the Harmony cabins to be efficient and at least leave you with the feel of more space. Our family usually stays in Jr. Suites or Grand Suites, but due to cost, we decided to book two balcony staterooms on deck 11. These were perfect. TVs are now wall mount, storage cabinets on each side of the bed, and the bathroom was very well designed. The shower is clearly more spacious, and for a tall family, we appreciated it! The dark earth tones were very modern/classy for a cruise ship cabin. A nice change from the earlier Oasis ships, Voyager and Freedom classes. Dining: Must admit the Harmony appears to be a step up from standard RC. We were a bit concerned at first as we were reassigned to "my time" dining at the last minute. Royal sent us an email explaining the change. We are "old school" and enjoy the "stability" of knowing we have a set dining time, a wait staff we get to know (and for the most part love) during the cruise, and have had the fortune of meeting wonderful table mates that we have connected with over the years (and even cruised with again). Overall, "my time" works. We were fortunate to be assigned to "Silk" and Carlington and Hank were our waiters after day 1. We never had a problem with a seating time or being seated in their section by request. The head waiter was always at our table, probably more than in any prior cruise making sure all of our needs were met. He left us his business card/number, so we just called ahead and in we went. Quite nice. The menu is more limited compared to other ships, but that is understandable with the increased volume of food they are putting out each meal. The Windjammer is the Windjammer, if you know what I mean. I like to stay away as I'm not a fan of fighting for a table and dodging hundreds of people in a hurry the hands full of plates and cups. There were plenty of other locations for a quick (and more peaceful) bite and those never appeared crowded. The ship lay-out was exceptional for the variety of restaurants. Part of our group ate at Chops one evening and we all did the Hibachi Experience at Izumi. Both were very good, and of course, the speciality restaurant food is a step above the complementary dining. Oh, I cannot forget one shout out to the Jammer..... when have you ever seen filet mignon for lunch? You get it on the Harmony... and it was quite good. Enrichment: Never the strong card for Royal. My son always enjoys the trivia, so we did play once. Of course, he won. Beat several teams of 5-6 adults. We did not miss the "enrichment" activities as this cruise was such a port heavy experience, and the ship was enrichment in and of itself. Entertainment: Harmony excelled here again in my opinion. When the bugs get all worked out with the new shows (we recognized we were one of the first sailings with all new casts still trying to get it all down), this will be amazing for guests. Don't miss the Puzzle Room. It is tucked away on floor 11 I think by the toddler/baby area- it seems to not be well publicized. What fun trying to solve the break out room with 10 other strangers. The water show was pretty good (could have done without the spinning guy with the whip). The ice show cast is very talented, with great costumes and effects.... the show is just a bit odd and hard to follow. We were on the ship for the Euro Cup, and we enjoyed how RC had the games playing in the aqua and main theaters for fans throughout the cruise. "Grease" was a "WOW". Can't say enough for the singers/dancers. The original Royal production show "Marvin Columbus" is fantastic. My yard stick is whether my husband uses the show for his pre-evening "nap". Here, his eyes were open the entire time. By far the best show we have seen out of Royal in 15+ cruises (husband agreed- that is BIG). Again, some bugs to work out with the stage, etc.... but do not miss this one. The headliner show was the Tenors of Rock. They were fantastic as well.... talked with them after the show. If you are in Vegas, look them up! The comedy was just so-so, so I'd advise skip and enjoy the other parts of the ship in the evening as there are so many nooks and crannies with live entertainment. Fitness and Recreation: The gym was well equipped, but must say this area was one area of disappointment. In other Royal ships, you have nice views in the gym and the track is outside around the pool area so you can enjoy views and activities as you walk / run. Here, the gym is tucked away and the track is semi enclosed in a lower deck (protected by the elements, but I felt claustrophobic). You have little time to exercise on the Harmony anyway... and just walking the ship is a work out given its size! Take the steps as they are well positioned to avoid crowds near the elevators. The recreation was a "10". The flow rider, zip line, rock wall, three water slides (wow) and the large slide by the aqua area were great fun. The pool area was nice, and there are plenty of deck chairs. Again, maybe due to the port-heavy itinerary, I never found the pool area overly crowded even on the one sea day. Always had a deck chair (although they are very closely spaced). Public Rooms: Harmony and its design excels. There are so many lounges and relaxing spaces. The solarium has plenty of chairs, water sprays, and hot tubs (no pool). The bionic bar and rising tide bar were always in use, along with the good old standard the Schooner lounge. The theater looked pretty much like all other RC ships as did the ice rink. Central Park and Board Walk were great public areas to pull up a lounge chair and people watch. Shops were a step up compared to other ships... but noticed nobody was really shopping/buying. So many other things to do in the evening after you sail from port, so I'm sure this does little for the shop business. Service: Overall, solid, but with greater variability than we are used to. I'll cut RC a break here, as building a great team takes time. The staff is just themselves getting to know the ship, and clearly much is new to even veteran employees. The technology is slick, when it works, and customer services, bar tenders, and concierge staff tried to be helpful but at times were lost themselves. Let's hope this gets worked out, as "so-so" service will hurt in the long run regardless of how magnificent the ship is itself. Training appears to be a work in progress in many areas. Captain Johnny runs a tight ship, however, and when we cruised the Mariner years back under his helm, that still remains the best staff we have experienced to date on any RC ship. We are not a fan of the cruise director we had for the front end of trip, but he left in Barcelona. I assume the new guy is the one staying (Bobby Brown). Ports/Shore Excursions: We did take any RC excursions, favoring to schedule private tours on our own. These work out best for us (you choose the time, where you want to go, and when you want to do things). Each was fantastic. We arranged a private tour of two wineries while ported in Marseilles (and lunch in Cassis). Great! We visited the Cinque Terre at the La Spazia port. Wonderful little towns with winding roads, lovely restaurants and breathtaking views. If you have been to Pisa and Florence, consider Cinque Terre at this stop. We are not a fan of Naples, so we jumped at a chance for a private tour of the island of Capris. Capris is gorgeous-- highly recommend. Palma was a great little stop where we just walked around and enjoyed time grabbing a brunch at an outdoor cafe- looks like a mini Barcelona of sorts. We are familiar with Barcelona, so we took the subway to Gaudi's Park Guell and then enjoyed the day at La Rambla taking in the cafes, people, shops and some sangria before returning to the ship. Overall, the itinerary was excellent. In all, another wonderful vacation for a family that has grown to absolutely love cruising. Sure, there were some inconveniences and obvious growing pains with a ship newly launched. Look past those. You are on vacation. Smile and thank the crew, and they will smile and deliver back to you a wonderful experience. Read Less

We have sailed with Royal Caribbean many times as Platinum Crown & Anchor members and this is the first time I've been dissapointed in a cruise. The check in was a breeze, very efficient, specially since very few people was boarding in Rome, most were boarding in Barcelona. This in itself should not be a problem but RC was not ready to deal with the logistics of 2 different boarding ports. Some information was still offered in terms of Day 1, Day2, etc. instead of date. This created confussion for us not boarding in Barcelona. Not sure why they decided to close most food venues at all aboard time! We were starving coming from the ports only to find the only place to get food was the Cafe Promenade! When we returned from Barcelona even that was closed since the new Barcelona guests had to attend the drill! We have already done so and were punished with no food or any activity for an hour! We sailed on the Oasis and this one feels so much crowded, specially the Windjammer and nice amenities such as make your own pizza in Sorrentos are missing from this ship. We expected upgrades but received the opposite. Numerous shows were cancelled or rescheduled multiple times. We were a group of 24 that planned our shows and dinner reservations online way ahead of time. The changes were difficult to handle without affecting dining. I found myself on the stand by line for the ice show after yet another reschedule and the guy at the entrance had the nerve to lecture us about making reservations ahead of time! Really, how could you say anything knowing all the changes made at the last minute! The Compass listed incorrect times for arrival into La Spezia affecting an independent excursion we had. There were also numerous errors in times and descriptions as well as grammar errors never noticed before by me in other cruises. The cabins new designs got mixed reviews from our group. There are more drawers and less closet space, I wanted more closet space but others loved it. The service is very inconsistent in this ship. You get amazing servers and others that seem annoyed to be there. On the other hand, we loved the decor, the ship is beautiful. The activities are fantastic from The Abyss to the waterslides. We had no problem doing everything we wanted to do such as slides, zip line, etc. The Harmony has a lot of potential but they still need to work on the logistics and fine tune a series of glitches that take away from the experience. This is not a cheap vacation and you expect everything to be as perfect as possible and the long lines in Guest Services is not a good sign. We will not be booking a cruise on a new ship in the future, lesson learned. Hopefully the Harmony crew will get it together soon. Read Less
