This was an outstanding experience on a beautiful shop. The ship stopped at exciting historical ports. Only two full sail days the whole time. Thought the music offerings were great on this cruise. Service was top notch. Teen loved the teen activites - the 80's dance party, the tag games, the black and white dance party..

1) By port - Santorini - We did the Celebrity Excursion of Volcano Hike and Hot Spring Swim. This was great for my teen and husband who were burnt out on visits to ancient Roman ruins by the time we got to the cruise. The Volcano Hike was an hour or so up and down volcanic islands with no shade. Must wear walking shoes not sandals. Then we went for a swim to a hot spring  which was fun. Then we had the option of returning to the ship or taking a cable car up to the town of Fira in Santorini. We took the cable car up, but since it was late afternoon there was a huge line waiting for the cable car back. We ended up walking down the cliff on a stone pathway that we shared with donkeys. This walk down took about 20 - 30 minutes. In retrospect it was fun and we took great photos from the path. The whole day was a real exercise workout. 

2) Athens - Equinox docked in terminal B. The taxi drivers were charging 30 euro for a trip to the inner city or Acropolis. Too high for us. We got off the ship and walked about a minute out of the terminal to a manned bus stop. The man who worked there spoke English and helped us figure out how to buy a bus ticket and how long it would take to get to the Acropolis area. The bus ride there was comfortable but took about 30 minutes to get to the Acropolis. Once there we did a non Celebrity tour the first day. We figured out how to take a subway back to the port subway stop. Then we caught a local bus that dropped us right in front of Terminal B. Celebrity was in Athens for 2 days which was great because there is so much to do there. One couple we met actually spent the night off the ship and in an Athens hotel to minimize travel time back and forth to the ship. The second day we were in Athens we did a morning tour of the Acropols but it was very hot. Should have done it in the late afternoon. The Acropolis Museum is a masterpiece of architecture and worth spending a lot of time there. Its restaurant is authentic Greek too.

3) Mykonos - Here very hard to find a taxi.  We took a van to Paradise beach. Moderate 6 euro to rent a beach lounge chair etc. Paradise had clean bathrooms and several food options. 

4) Ephasus Turkey. Did the Celebrity Excursion of Ephasus, with visit to St. John burial site and lunch. Ephasus was amazing and beyond breathtaking. History lovers must make sure to see the Terrace houses in their tour. This Celebrity tour had a lunch which was in a restaurant in a clean and modern shopping mall.  The food was good and wine and beer offered. There was an interactive show - which ended up being 10 fully costumed Anthony and Cleopatra time frame actors in a pagent which had a gladiator fight. A little cheesy, but ok. Then we went to a 25 minute Turkish carpet sales presentation. This was interesting and the carpets were beautiful. Not the best way to spend my time though.

5) Bodrum Turkey - our favorite port. Got off the ship.

6) Crete - Hate to say it, but we were so burnt out that we did not get off the ship.

7) Naples. We did the Celebrity excursion to Capri. This was about 50 people on a hydrofoil boat that seats 600 and was packed. Not an enchanting sail to Capri at all. Took 50 minutes to get there. This excursion does not have an early check out option. So you are stuck on Capri for 7 hours.

Mediterranean Celebrity Cruise with Teen

This was out first cruise and without doubt our last cruise with this "modern luxury" cruise line. 

We have written to Celebrity customer services to voice our issues with our holiday which in total cost us over £6000. It comes as absolutely no surprise that we have yet to receive a reply.

Celebrity Equinox in our opinion is best described as a floating Moroccan market place. It is constantly sell sell sell sell. You are constantly hassled to buy anything from a drinks package to a £10,000 Tag. Why anybody would buy a watch on a cruise ship is beyond me. Surely for the same price you could fly to Switerland stay in a four seasons and visit Patek Phillipe and still have change. 

The ship itself is in general not great shape. We watched many poor crew members constantly painting and fixing things around the ship in 35c heat. 

Our major gripe that we had as it seems with other reviewers on this site is the food. 

ITS SIMPLY AWFUL. How can any guest service business deliver such a poor poor offering. It was inedible. 

I could go on and on but will leave it there. 

My advice for what it is worth is to avoid this company like the plague!!

As bad as it gets!!?

We chose this cruise as first timers and our travel agent suggested Celebrity as a good first timer brand.  Agent was spot on, Celebrity Equinox mid ship cabin on deck 9 with a veranda.  Cabin was pretty spacious and had plenty of storage space for everything we needed.  Bathroom was good with a proper shower.

Embarkation was efficient and we soon got to grips with the system of getting round the ship, ordering food and drink etc and generally finding out 'what was what'.  Staff are always polite and helpful, really faultless.

Celebrity are a slick operation and offer great food and entertainment; I suggest taking the drinks and gratuities package as these will add up if you don't have them included at the start.  Dining options are plentiful and the standard buffet and waiter options are good enough for the majority of people.

The shows are good quality and change every night, they also run twice a night to be sure to let everyone have a chance to see them.  Plenty of other things like live music, karaoke and casino etc. to keep you busy at night.

Shore excursions are expensive and you can easily do the same for much less independently if you just go ashore and find an alternative.

Cabin cleanliness was faultless.

One area Celebrity dod fall down on was this was booked as a honeymoon cruise, our agent advised them of this and Celebrity themselves knew the file was marked as a special occasion.  We didn't get anything to mark the occasion, our agent was surprised and so were other regular cruisers who felt sure something would be done to mark our occasion.  Nothing, just regular cruise passengers; even a cheap hotel might have offered a bottle of fizzy wine.  Celebrity miss the 5 stars and the cigar for that.

Bottom line, good cruise, good holiday, good value but not a special occasion company.

Great company for an informal experience, missed our most important detail.

We recently returned from our best cruise ever! After spending 3 days in Rome pre-cruise, we boarded the Celebrity Equinox for a 12 day cruise in the Eastern Mediterranean -- a couple of port stops in Italy, 4 in Greece and 1 in Turkey. The ship was beautiful, service was top-notch, entertainment very good and the food was varied and delicious. Oh, and the port stops -- Amalfi Coast, Athens, Mykonos, Crete, Kusadasi, Santorini and Sicily -- were amazing. We had beautiful weather throughout our cruise, and very calm seas.

We booked our cruise about 2 months before we set sail -- I found an unbelievable price posted on the cruise line website, just $899/person for a balcony cabin, and we then worked with a Celebrity Travel agent to finish the booking. The agent was able to upgrade us one category and move us to mid-ship -- cabin 9278 -- at no additional cost. She was also very helpful in answering my many questions about the cruise. 

Embarkation was very easy -- we arrived, had no wait and went right on board. Our luggage arrived early afternoon. Our cabin stewards were great throughout the cruise. 

The ship is absolutely beautiful -- clean and well-attended, lots of open space so easy to get around even when everyone is on board, plenty of shops, plenty of dining options, the best library on board a ship we have ever seen, etc. etc.

The staff were great from bottom to top -- everyone was courteous, and more than courteous, everyone had something nice to say when they passed you or you spoke with them. It was clear on our ship that the staff understood the finer points of "customer service."

We dined "anytime" in the Silhouette dining room. The food was great -- great variety, well prepared, well presented. Our waiters made good recommendation, and service was excellent. We also ate in 3 specialty restaurants -- Bistro on 5, Murano and Tuscan Grille -- and had excellent experiences in all 3. Bistro on 5 is a steal at a $10 coverage charge per person.

My wife and I felt that the entertainment was the best we have seen on a cruise ship. The production singers and dancers were outstanding in the 3 shows we saw, and we thoroughly enjoyed the other entertainers on board on our cruise.

As far as excursions, we took a ship excursion at the first port stop, Salerno, going to Pompeii and a drive on the Amalfi Coast, private tours in Athens (Acropolis, city sight seeing and Temple of Poseidon), Crete (ancient ruins of Aptera, city and countryside sight seeing), Kusadasi (Ephesus were the best ruins, we felt, of everything we saw on our cruise) and Sicily (the "Godfather" tour and Taormina) and walk-ins to Mykonos and Santorini. I can't say enough about the private tours.

As you can see, we had an absolutely wonderful time on our cruise -- everything was perfect (or as near perfect as you can get). We have already booked another cruise, next May to the Baltic, on board a sister ship to the Equinox.

Best Cruise Ever!

Having done several cruises with Princess and Royal Caribbean we decided to try Celebrity and I can honestly say that this Cruise Company are definitely better than the others mentioned. The whole experience is by far superior from embarking until the final morning

We were on the Celebrity Equinox during May 2016 sailing from Rome to Barcelona via the Eastern Mediterranean. The ship itself was in first class condition compared to some ships we have been on in the past. The ships crew were very friendly stopping to talk with guests when we were at sea. All crew working the bars and restaurants seemed to have at least two jobs to carry out ensuring that everything ran smoothly. The cabins were spotless and kept neat and tidy by our cabin steward. 

The food served was in my own view very good and the standard in the silhouette restaurant was outstanding each evening with various choices to suit every taste.

Although we are not great fans of cabaret we did enjoy some of the shows especially the Other Guys who gave great renditions of Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons.

There are plenty of bars around the ship. Our favourites were the Cocktail Bar and thanks to Iputu and Adrian for the great service, the Sky Lounge where you can dance the night away until the early hours and of course the Mast Bar during the day.

I have read one or two critic comments about Celebrity not being what they were due to no flowers being in the room etc. Well if that is your gripe then that is minute compared to some of the cock ups I've experienced on other ships. This company are tops as far as I'm concerned and we have now booked a second cruise with Celebrity.

My one moan however is too many photographers trying to take a photo of you. Back off a bit and I would find it more acceptable to have my picture taken and then purchase one or two. But I found getting pestered for a photo at every turn put me off.

Celebrity: brilliant cruise now number two in our list of previous cruises.

We had never been to the Mediterranean and had heard many wonderful things about this 12-day cruise.  From the moment of departure from Rome, then Salerno Italy, Athens, Mykonos, Crete, Kusadasi (Turkey) Santorini (Greece), Messina (Italy), and off at Barcelona we were enthralled.   We got off at all the Ports.  Because we are late-risers we took our time getting off the ship, and easily found taxis,  private drivers, or trains to take us around.  In Salerno (Italy) we were fascinated by the ruins of Pompeii;  the Acropolis/Parthenon in Athens; and Ephesus (Turkey) where the Blessed Virgin Mary had lived her final years.     Many of the other ports had shuttle buses to take us into 'town'.  In Santorini we were tendered to Port and then took the cable cars up the mountain to 'town'.   Some passengers elected to take donkeys up the hill, or even to walk.   At many ports passengers (early risers LOL) opted for the Guided Tours and were very happy with that.  For shoppers you must make time for the amazing grand bazaar  in Kusadasi  where you can find knock-off purses and wallets, or as they say "Genuine fakes". It is a shoppers paradise, with markets and boutiques, where you are spoilt for choice.  Sure, the shopkeepers are intense, and will pounce on you for a sale, but just smile and say No if you are not interested. 

We had 3 days at SEA and we enjoyed that very much taking in the Entertainment and Activities at our leisure.   We were particularly drawn to the live entertainment backed by an amazing group of musicians.   I think we went to every show, and sometimes twice.   There was such a good variety of talent brought in for specific nights, as well as the Ship Dancers & Orchestra who provided amazing performances.   Of course, there were tons of other activities on board for everyone's taste.   

Definitely would recommend this cruise.

Fabulous Eastern Mediterranean - Celebrity Equinox

Our trust travel agent came through after we had to cancel this same cruise last year due to some unexpected medical issues.

We arrived in Rome two days early to do a little sightseeing and to enjoy the incredible cuisine.  We took the train from the Rome Terminus (main station) directly to the quaint town of Civitavecchia.  From there we took a bus directly to the port and the check-in area.  We were booked in Celebrity's Aqua Class and had a beautiful balcony room on Deck 11 just about mid ship.  Check in was simple as we had completed all of the items online and had preprinted our boarding passes. We were aboard the ship by about 11 am and enjoyed lunch until cleared to move to our stateroom.

The Equinox is a Solstice Class ship that had recently undergone a refreshing with new carpets and soft stateroom items.  She was immaculately kept and our room attendant Annie became a fast friend.

Being in Aqua Class have us exclusive use of the Blu Restaurant.  We tried all of the additional cost restaurants but Blu and the main dining room were our favorites for variety of their menus.  The Italian, French and Asian offering never varied their menu once on a 12 night cruise which I found disappointing.  Compared to my first cruise in 1980 aboard the late, great SS Norway the food has definitely gone down hill.  It is only acceptable--a lot of it--but nothing to get excited over.  There are no longer midnight buffets.  We had a $400 stateroom credit which we did not find out until later is non-refundable if not used.  We had pre-booked our meals package and had paid for upgrading to the best beverage package only to discover that we had to pay ahead of time for these items.  In future, if we had a credit I would wait until boarding to be sure to use it all up.  We wound up passing up nearly $300.

Entertainment was acceptable--it gave us something to do for an hour after dinner.  Originally the itinerary had been scheduled for a 2 night stop in Istanbul but due to political situations, this was changed to a day stop in Kusadasi and two nights in Athens.  Shore excursions are clearly marked regarding the amount of walking, stair climbing and exertion required.  We would have appreciated more less aggressive excursions so we limited ourselves to Mykonos, Athens and Kusadasi.  Kusadasi was a pleasant surprise--a beautiful and interesting stop for a day.

Service aboard the ship was quite good from the dining rooms to the bar staff.  We especially enjoyed lounging by the adult pool reading during the at sea days but the average age of the cruisers was probably in the late 50's due to having to purchase round trip airfare to and from Europe.  Very few children and more than ample comfortable seating available aboard the Equinox.  Our fellow passengers were a mixture of Americans, Germans, Italians and other European nations with a smattering of Australians and Canadians--an eclectic and friendly group.

We will definitely travel with Celebrity again.

Springtime in the Med on Celebrity's Equinox

My wife and I just returned from a 13 day cruise from Rome to Barcelona; crossing through Greece's islands. 

In sum, Celebrity get a 10 out of 10 for their hotel services (stateroom, cleanliness, customer service, food). The ship is kept incredibly clean and updated. Evidence of this is how you will see the crew constantly washing the decks and other assets with fresh water constantly. 

Another aspect worthwhile mentioning is the hygiene practices they live and die by. As an example, throughout the day (literally) there are crew members  disinfecting handrails and "Pureling" every single guest. 

In terms of accommodation, I strongly recommend booking a stateroom around deck 8 (best un-obstructed view) with a veranda (balcony). Having a balcony is worth it for several reasons: 1. It allows fresh air to come into the cabin; this is necessary as it sometimes smells stuffy and old. 2. It allows you to hang out clothes to dry while at the port of call. 3. Should you suffer of motion sickness, having a balcony will allow you to step outside breath fresh air and keep things under control. 

In terms of your beverage package, it all depends on how much bottled water, tea, and alcohol you and your companion will be drinking. In our case, we drank about 4 x 1 liter bottles per day and about 5 + alcoholic drinks per day, (beer at the pool, wine at night, etc), and many more specialty drinks per day (Ginger Tea, Cappuccino, Bailey's, etc). With this said, usually my wife gets the Classic Package and I get the Premium Package and it was worked great for us. 

Finally, while booking Celebrity usually they offer some "perks" such as included gratuities or free internet. Based upon out experience, what has worked best for us is included gratuities as we consume a lot of betrays per day (each purchase adds an 18% gratuity fee). 

Go ahead and book your cruise at Celebrity; by far, the best cruise line available (without counting in your Biking-like cruises).

Celebrity Equinox Eastern Mediterranean Cruise

I travelled with a friend on this cruise, my third on Celebrity.Embarkation was easy, no problems at all and our cabin was available soon after we had embarked and had lunch.We had a balcony cabin on deck 7 midship.Our stewards Akmed and Lincoln were great, the room was immaculately clean at all times. We dined in Silhouette every evening and always could find something delicious on the menu.Breakfasts and lunches were taken In the Oceanview buffet and once again there was plenty choice.

The guest entertainers which we saw were good, the ships entertainment crew also and it was a pleasure to hear Paul the entertainment director sing.There weren't many sea days on this cruise and we found there wasn't and awful lot of things to do apart from the usual trivia and occasional dance classes.

The ports were all lovely with perhaps Athens being the only exception.We found we could catch the on/off buses found in the bigger ports and they gave us a good insight to the places.We had no problems with the tender ports , always had no wait to board the tenders.
