A lot of hype, gimmicks and up-charges

We researched and studied for months before booking our honeymoon on the edge. Then we saved for 2 years to be able to do all the things we saw and believed off the marketing. Overall the ship was nice, crew was professional, and we could see the vision...but it all lacked execution. We are young by cruising standards, we took advantage of all the techy stuff and did all the paperwork online ...

Celebrity Edge - An Exquisite Implementation of an Sadly Flawed Design Concept

“The Edge” is Celebrity Cruise Lines first of their newest class of ship, and it’s an exquisite implementation of an unfortunately deeply flawed design concept. It’s really hard to understand what happened here, and the responsibility should sit squarely with its designers. They totally missed the mark, in my opinion. If my tag line above sounds befuddling, read on, and I’ll attempt to clear up ...

The itinerary looked good, we were taking friends on their first cruise on our favorite cruise line, and everything augured well. Although we have taken about 40 cruises most of which have been on Celebrity, we wanted to experience the Edge, particularly since we are also booked on it for next year with our grandchildren. As usual the service we received was excellent and friendly. ...

The cruise itinerary and ports were fine. Celebrity excursions were too crowded, too long for what was seen, buses were often hot, and guides would not control guests who took 20 minutes when only 10 was allotted for stop. The new balcony cabin layouts are excellent. We really liked our cabin and the included balcony. However, we missed the sky lounge. The ship was confusing in that it had ...

Very good itinerary on the first of a new class of ship. There were four restaurant options for grades up to and including Concierge which we interchanged across all four. The menu's for these have a common thread plus 3 regional starters / mains that are special to each restaurant. Restaurant table layouts were excellent and the food/service top class - better than any other Celebrity ship. ...

Looks better than it feels

There is no doubt Celebrity Edge looks good. All those Kelly Hoppen greys and beiges. But does it feel good? Well not to this seasoned traveller. Celebrity have made a great effort to lower the age demographic of their passengers. They have succeeded - but I think at the expense of the older guest. Take the bars: I want a comfortable lounge to enjoy a drink. The biggest bar is the Martini Bar on ...

My wife and I cruise extensively. We love Celebrity ships for service at par with 6 stars luxury cruises. Smart ship design with multiple areas where one can enjoy smooth music, drink, conversation is another undeniable attribute of all Celbrity ships. Edge managed to lack all the above. Service in all public areas is below average. Pool is small for the ship and is further squeezed by ...

As seasoned Celebrity clients enjoying previous cruises on their Solstice Class ships we had preconceived ideas as to what we might expect on the new Edge. With all the advertising hype we’d read and the artist’s impressions we’d seen on line over the last months we were quite excited to finally experience this brand new innovative ship. First, our stateroom and spacious bathroom were nicely ...

We chose the Celebrity Edge as soon as bookings were available as we fell for all the hype. We were extremely disappointed in this ship. It is so disjointed and totally unlike any other Celebrity ship. There are weird venues onboard such as The Eden which is a mish-mash of greenery, Avatar type personnel wandering about in weird outfits, plants hanging everywhere. To get to this you have to walk ...

This was our third cruise with celebrity. We thought the ship, staff and attention to detail was brilliant. However a few things are now lacking. The dress code for one . On numerous occasions when eating in the main dining rooms we had people turn up in shorts . One of these occasions was a young woman in very untidy cut off denim shorts. On our last evening we ate in the fine cut steakhouse again ...
