We chose it for the destination The food was awful 2* is being generous. The breakfast was the same very day greasy hard bacon cheap nasty sausage never changed . Every day was a stir fry or some obscure meat like beef cheeks nasty cheap food by the end of the cruise so many people were eating from the kids section as the food was slightly better. if you are vegetarian you would really struggle veggie curry and rice or cheese and salad . No late food apart from 11 to 11 30 when plates of Iceland type buffet food was taken Around the bars. You felt like a penguin being given fish . Most staff rude especially reception we went to complain about the lack of sun beds 450 for 1400 passengers.the receptionist rolled her eyes and picked up the phone twice while we were talking . People were taking sun beds when someone went for food and leaving belongings piled on the floor . There were arguments and near fights every day . The Crewe had their own deck with around 30 beds that weren’t being used we got a sun bed twice in 15 days and it was taken when we went for lunch . People were sitting on chairs taken from the buffet as there was nowhere to sit.we ended up going to the speciality restaurants they were a bit better but you shouldn’t have to pay . Entertainment was awful singers screeched out of tune people got up and walked out including us. We went to Tenerife on a Sunday everywhere was shut . Some of the places visited were too short 4 hours not enough time . Kids in pools couldn’t use till day ten when the made one adult only We lost tv signal on 3rd day . Incompetent management it all needs a massive review All in all this was my tenth and by far the worst cruise I would never sail with them again or recommend them to anyone I know . Read Less

I chose this cruise because it covered NewYears eve and my wifes 70th birthday. The best part of the cruise was the firework display provided buy Funchal, thank goodness TUI didn't have anything to do with this , other than docking in Fuchal. The ship was in the midst of a virus issue and underwent a chlorine deep clean of all the ships plumbing in Tenerife the day before we left for home. This entailed getting nearly all the passengers off the ship and onto a complimentory tirp (10 coaches I counted). New passengers where boarding in Tenerife when the trip got back to the ship. More chaos ensued as both sets of passengers had to board through the same gangway. The next day the Captain announced to the new passengers not to believe what had been posted on social media in the UK about the virus onboard, but said it had been mostlikely been brought onboard by previous passengers on a previous. cruise. What a cheek !! Why did it take nearly two weeks to deep claen the ship!!!! Food was abismal, luke warm at best. Bacon at breakfast could have been used to tile a roof it was that hard and overcooked. I didn't fancy complaining about the food as you never now how upset the cooks can get!! Waiters where cleaning tables in the self service restaurants with spontex cloths and on sign of them using antibacterial even though the passengers were religiosly using and being prompted to use the hand sanitisers. The cabin flooded on Wdnesday night along with many more at various times throughout our week (good, sorry bad news travels fast in lifts). Hense the eventual deep clean. TUI GET RID OF THIS TUB ITS A NIGHTMARE NOT A DREAM!!! Read Less

This was my wife and my first ever cruise where if this was to go by may have put us off forever. The plus points were that places we visited were lovely, the staff were friendly and cleaning staff tried to keep the boat clean. Now the negatives which I put into sections:- The boat. Not known at booking this ship is well past its active life and should have been retired years ago. From when you board it is a throw back to the 1980's with the decor and facilities showing their age with lack of repair. The main staircases for example may have been of Crome and glass but was all so heavily scratched there was no way the poor cleaners could ever get a shine. There were worn unrepaired carpets and the interior lift doors were scratched with graffiti making you feel as though you were in a car park lift. I do not want to labour this section but could go on as the ship was old outdated and poor throughout. Cabin We has chosen to upgrade to a larger outside cabin. Well this was worse than the public areas of the ship and have videos to prove it. The chest of draws were falling apart where the draws did not close, had large poorly filled holes in them and were heavily scratched. The carpet had come away and was frayed on all walls. The fridge was falling apart preventing the cupboard from closing. The ladder for the bunk style bed if you needed it was hanging from the wall and was not secured or able to be secured so kept coming loose in choppy water which was a H&S hazard. There were exposed electrical fitments and falling apart fitted radio. The very small shower had a rusted shower head, exposed rusted pipe work, poor repair patches to the shower walls and the soap/shower gel dispenser was hanging broken from the wall. If all of this wasn't bad enough every time you used the shower it would flood the bathroom floor. We reported our concerns to reception by was told the ship was full and nothing could be done so had to report this when we returned home as the ship has no formal Thompson rep! Drinks When I booked I was sold on the all inclusive promise by Thompson. Please be aware this is NOT the case. Only about 40% of the drinks menu is covered on the all inclusive with everything else including water, yes water having an extra charge. You are pestered by reception to buy an upgraded drinks package to "fully inclusive" for ONLY £75 each for 7 days and then also a further £75 for the wine upgrade of 5 bottles as they know the wine served is so terrible. So poor as being in an area where a good bottle of wine can be picked up for about 5 euros. Sailing The ship was due to sail to Agadir in Morocco but due to bad weather could not make it. Not a problem as I understand safety comes first however the notice of this was through a shaft note on our bed which we found when returning to the ship at 5pm that evening. There was no staff on hand to offer options or guidance as to help explore Madeira as they all took the opportunity to leave the ship and left you wondering whether a further walk around town was your only option. The other frustration was that apparently not making it to Agadir is a regular occurrence and was not worth paying the extra cost for this particular cruise due to this (information from other passengers who had only booked this on a cheap Last minute deal and sailed it before) I am not one to moan generally and especially about First Choice/Thompson as have been a loyal customer of theirs for many years however this experience has left me concerned about their downhill decline. I have tried to keep this as brief as possible but please do not use this boat if you want a decent cruise although can highly recommend the route as the islands are very beautiful Read Less

This was our first ever cruise. Most people always recommended cruises, apart from the people we spoke to on this ship who would also never go on the Majesty again. We know next year this ship will be finishing but if you want luxury, good food, good ports of call, don't go on this one. The first week the staff were painting parts of the promenade deck which was supposed to be for sunbathing, so we had to put up with parts of the deck being chained off and stinking paint fumes. We know these jobs sometimes need to be done, but the ship had been docked up for three weeks previous to us going because of the engine fire so why couldn't it have been done then? The staff overall on ship were good and helpful. The cabin was small, we could have upgraded for another £200 the second week which would have given us a larger set of drawers and two foot extra floor space between the beds, that's all. The top deck where the cold and never heated pools were was like being on a booze cruise, loud and rowdy where most people ate and drank all day. We have been with Thomson Holidays many a time over the years, but the standards and quality are no longer there. If we ever try a cruise again years down the line we have been recommended P & O, but for now give us land any day. Read Less

Delays are every part of life, and this also includes sailing off into the so called Sunshine for a Christmas, New Year Cruise. Unfortunately there was a 5 hour delay leaving Tilbury, due to apparent bad weather on the English Channel.!!! Our first port of call was to be Gibraltor on Boxing Day. But, again there was the apparently bad weather excuse to sail across the Bay of Biscay. So our first port was Antwerp, at the cost of not visiting Lanzarote. ( seems strange, it was to bad to sail out across the Bay of Biscay, but not too bad to sail back.) We did however pick up the wife and son of a Senior member of the Ships bridge up at Antwerp, and they disembarked at Lisburn as not too endure the almost dangerous weather on the Bay of Biscay. We had one evening we will never forget whilst sailing back across the Bay of Biscay when Waiters were thrown about and almost everything was thrown of the dining tables. Later that evening we was treated to Air Sea Rescue, air lifting a passenger/Passengers off the ship. Even though this was predomently a British passenger cruise over the Christmas/ New Year period, there was very little Christmas spirit given by any of the entertainment staff. No Mince Pies, Christmas Cake or Christmas Pudding. Christmas Dinner comprised with one and Half Brussels Sprouts.....there was NO Christmas tradition on board this ship. Only real highlight to this cruise was the lovely people we met and the New Year Fireworks spectacular in Funchal Maderia. I felt the entertainment was very very poor indeed, and didn't seem any real direction or participation from the cruise director who seemed more preoccupied with other things. Although myself and wife spent nearly a year looking forward to this cruise, I'm afraid we will never sail on this ship again or possibly with the Cruise company. Read Less

On a negative here sadly. My wife and I have done 20 plus cruises and this was our first NCL , it will likely be our last with these folks , sadly. We booked a mini suite which seemed identical to our friends standard balcony, perhaps a slight oversell but I could live with that. The complimentary drinks package was appealing but bottles of water were excluded as were coffees???? Again the above I can live with . Service levels however were shockingly bad, staff didn't seem to care , likely as they knew we had packages , no excuse however, and there was a dire shortage of waiting staff in the public bars. The casino takes up way too much room with huge gaps at tables, many of which were empty, bars were too small for the ships capacity and people could not get into their favourite spots at night, badly designed and laid out is my opinion here. Our room attendant was fabulous, helpful, polite and very keen to please so there's a plus. Entertainment was very poor , live shows average at best and I'm being kind here. The Beat,Es show was allegedly good but as Cavern was small we could never get in. Movie options in cabin were fine however. We have never had such poor entertainment and service in all of our cruises and feel cheated as we really looked forward to this. The itinerary was clearly designed to keep us spending onboard with 5. Yes 5 days at sea, incredulous snot it?? Sorry NCL I won't be recommending you Read Less
