Has anyone got any ideas on what to do in Miyakojima?

    Hello,

My wife and I are planning to sign up for the Viator tour entitled “Mt Fuji, Hakone, Lake Ashi Cruise and Bullet Train Day Trip from Tokyo” for 14 Dec 2019, the day before embarking onto the cruise. I have several questions before we sign up:

    1.      The website mentions 4 pick-up sites:

    a.      Hotel Metropolitan in Ikebukuro

    b.      Hamamatsucho Bus terminal

    c.      Grand Prince Hotel New Takanana in Shinagawa

    d.      Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku (near Shinjuku Station)

    2.      We are planning to arrive in Tokyo on the 13 Dec 2019 from the US.  Since we do not have a flight as of yet, we are not sure at which airport we will be landing or at what time of day/night.

    3.      As we are not familiar with Tokyo, we are looking for a hotel which:

    a.      Is easy to get to from either airport, is close to the meeting point for the tour, and somewhat reasonable.  Can you provide any recommendations?

    b.      On the 15th we plan to leave the hotel during the day to go to Yokohama to embark on the cruise.

    Can you help. Thank you

    Peter

    Hi Peter

I can help you re a place to stay. Shinjuku is easy to get to from the airport by the Narita Express train or limousine bus. I just got back from Tokyo this week but prefer to stay in Ueno as it is only 35 minutes by train from Narita airport which after a long flight is good. It's also a bit cheaper than Shinjuku. I also like the fact that there is a JR station, subway and Keisei station. I've only stayed in Shinjuku once out of all my trips to Tokyo and stayed at the Ibis Styles which was a 5-10 walk from the main station (which happens to be enormous) and it was pretty good. It's about 5 minutes from Keio Plaza Hotel.

In regards to Hakone, I don't know how much you are paying for the trip through Viator but it is really easy to do on your own as a day trip from Shinjuku station on the Odakyu line. Every time we take new friends to Tokyo we do the day trip out so have been many a time. The Hakone free pass is ¥5700 and covers all of the transportation out to Hakone, around Hakone and back to Tokyo. As it is so popular, it is really well supported for non-Japanese speakers. When we go out it is pretty much a full day from leaving around 8.30am from Shinjuku station. I am more than happy to help you with trains and schedules if you opt to do it yourself.

    Here's the link: https://www.odakyu.jp/english/passes/hakone/

I have blogged about our visit to Hakone. If you are interested here it is:

Where is your tour leaving from? That would give an idea of where you might stay. I’ve stayed in several hotels across Tokyo and can recommend some but depends where you need to access.
