    Welshy,

There are usually two formal nights on a Carnival cruises.  Overall, if you wear dress slacks and a button up shirt each night to dinner then you'll be fine.  Greg & I typically do this but with the formal nights we add a tie and a blazer.  Carnival can be lenient on their dress code but I have seen people not allowed into the MDR if dressed inappropriately.  I would just play it safe with dress slacks and a button up/polo shirt.  I do agree though, dressing down would be nice as I too have to dress up for work.  :-)

If I remember correctly on our one previous cruise the guy sitting next to us on formal night had a big yellow sponge bob shirt on!! I think it's what you make of it. We don't get dressed up very often so we're taking advantage of it. My husband and son are bringing suites and my daughter and I have nice dresses  (not ball room type dresses).

Yup.. having done a bit more research we will be leaving the tux at home.. thinking it’s a bit OTT.  Hate wearing a suit on holiday as it reminds me of work.. something I am trying to forget for the two weeks we are away!!  Haha.  Will aim ‘smart casual’. For formal night.  Thanks for the info though.

OK..  so starting to think about packing.   How formal is Carnival?   Are there any formal black tie dinners and what is the general dress code for the MDR?
