There were plenty of positives about this trip. The tours and tour guides were excellent. The onboard cruise director was fun, enthusiastic and give us good information about up coming ports. Despite cool damp weather the quality of the young boat and its staff was obvious. Our cabin, port side, going down river kept its view when alongside. The ship’s crew and the tour guides are helpful, friendly courteous and receptive to all your needs. Included tours are great and the phase is relaxed. I just wish a better entertainment after dinner is available not just a piano music but some kind of show like magic, stand up comedy or a singer or dancer (it doesn’t have to be famous). The river cruise itself was good, except we could not use the upper deck. First because it rained a little, which we expected, but with the coming of all the low bridges and locks the upper deck was unavailable the majority of the time. Chose Viking cruise because of the small ship size and the ability of seeing so many different Christmas Markets. The food on board was decent. Breakfast was the best offering of the day. Spirit of the Rhine is nice small ship with only 180 or so passengers, mostly like minded and good company. We were nervous about the entertainment (after 65 ocean cruises) and I don't know if we were just lucky, but the local entertainers brought aboard were really excellent and the onboard Saga entertainers / cruise staff got other activities just about right.
