Overall the cruise was above average, but not great. The trip into the Black Forest was to a tourist trap. The dinner out for “German” food was at a German restaurant, but the food was not very good at all. German night on the boat had acceptable German food, but we’ve had much better back in the states. Otherwise, the food on the boat was pretty good. The boat staff were exceptional, ...
I wanted a more intimate cruise. The thought of going on a ship with 4000 other people gives me the creeps. We were able to connect with and get to know people from around the world including the ships crew. The crew was lovely by the way. One of the wait staff was a wonderful young woman from Ukraine who we bonded with almost immediately. The service was superb and we felt like we were pampered. ...
We did this as our first river cruise because I daughter got married in Germany. I absolutely loved it. I thought it was a beautiful experience. The food was spectacular. Could not have been better. Loved the exposure to all of the German food. The staff on Viking as always were spectacular. The could use with getting new beds on this ship. They are not great. This was our first river cruise so ...
At our opening night welcome, our cruise director, Jackie, said, "Our goal is to make this cruise your best vacation ever." And Viking did? We're experienced international travelers and have lived abroad (including Hawaii), but this cruise captured the essence of Viking's value proposition and indeed exceeded our expectations by a longshot. Viking's reputation in the industry is unmatched, and ...
Viking’s crews were not only professional but quite personable. It’s amazing when crew call you by name.
The ports were wonderful despite the first 4 days being rainy. Umbrellas were provided. Pack a rain coat. The included excisions can’t be missed. So much information about the ports.
The scenery during cruise hours were beautiful and relaxing to view.
We had a French balcony ...
We chose Viking because of previous river trips that turned out to be fun and interesting experiences. The ship, the staff, the food & tours were the best and met our expectations. If we needed something extra there was always somebody available to help. We had many discussions with staff people and were very happy to learn that Viking treats their people like the true professionals they are. ...
We had such a great time in every port, as well as our time on the ship. We love that so much is included with the cost of our cruise, including an excursion in each port, wine and beer at meals, wonderful meals (something lacking on other cruise lines) as well as interesting cultural programs, and wonderful service. We enjoyed getting to spend a couple of days and evenings in several of the ...
Our first river cruise after many big sea cruises, and it was fantastic! Avalon did everything top notch. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and went out of their way to make sure that everything was great. Floating down the river was so relaxing and the scenery was beautiful.
Our cabin was on the top floor and the view from it was great, especially from the bed facing the window ...
This was a great trip. The staff on this cruise were exceptional. The service was great and so was the food! This wasn’t your run of the mill “buffet” food, this was well prepared, high quality food. Wine selection was top notch. We have taken several cruises and this one was by far the best. Shore excursions were well planned. Communication was really good. Due to tidal changes, itinerary had ...
We chose this cruise because it covered many of the places in Europe that we wanted to see. It is also great that our hotel room traveled with us from place to place. The Tour guides were all excellent and so knowledgeable. Some of them pointed out things they thought the other tour guides might not mention. There was always a great selection of food for Breakfast, lunch and Dinner. The ...
