I hate to say anything negative about RC but sometimes they do things that just don't make sense. Because of that I couldn't rate them 5 stars this time. But before I get into why, I have to point out a couple of things that are not the fault of RC. Something I have commented on before. Fingers should never be used to pick up food. There are plenty of utensils for that. It's bad enough when some people refuse to wash their hands when they enter the buffet, but then to handle food with the same hands? YUCK! Let's not spread diseases. Normally leaving the ship is easy and quick. Just wait on the ship for your number to be called, retrieve your bags and within a few minutes you're on your way home. This time however, something went wrong. Customs was late clearing the ship and the self carry off passengers began about 15 minutes late. It seemed like no big deal, until we heard that departing was now on hold do to customs. When passengers were allowed to continue to leave and our number was called it took almost 1 1/2 hours to disembark and clear customs. At one point there were only 3 custom officials. There was a fourth agent who seem oblivious to the long line waiting to clear customs and sat looking at his computer screen. One of the 3 agents even waked away for a time leaving just 2 to clear hundreds of passengers. I have never seen so few agents at work, nor a line that moved so slowly. No one seemed to know why, let's hope it is not the new normal. Again this is something RC has little to no control over. Ok enough of that. To interest to Diamond Plus Members. We were told there has been a permanent change. Plus members no longer have access to the concierge club. Now it is open only to Pinnacle and suite guests. Ok so no big deal? Yes it's a big deal. The diamond club was swamped with people including Pinnacle members, who could have gone to the concierge club. The Pinnacle members crowded into the diamond club leaving the concierge club almost empty. If the Pinnacle members don't want to use the concierge club, why push out the Plus members? Many would have loved the chance to have their happy hour in a less crowded quieter place like we always did in the past. Next issue and last negative. There was a time change when we set our clocks back 1 hour. OK so if you normally get up at 6 your clock would say 5. What's wrong with that? nothing except the ship moved the opening time for breakfast from 7 to 8. The clock went back an hour, the time for breakfast went forward an hour. So when the Windjammer finally opened a 8 half the ship rushed into the Windjammer, since most people were already up for 2-3 hours. The logical thing would have been, move the opening time back 1 hour to 7 not ahead to 8. They can't expect people to sleep an extra hour just because the time was changed. Who's idea was that? Ok enough of the negative. The cruse was very relaxing and we had a great time. Again boarding was a breeze. The ship is in very good shape for it's age, although there were some areas that could us a good pressure washing. Our cabin was clean and our steward did a fantastic job. The rest of the staff was very friendly. We ate our meals at the Windjammer. The food was quite a mix. Most was very good and the selection was large. Something for everyone. The staff did a great job clearing tables and were very friendly, fun to talk to. The bands we Ok, but not enough dance music played in the Centrum. Just when things got going they would have some kind of game show, that would kill the dancing. There is a large wooden floor in the back of the ship that is seldom used. It would be nice to have more music there. That's about it. It's a small ship with lots of things to do and lots of fun. Read Less

I may not be a cruising connoisseur, this was my 4th, but i found it hard to complain about anything on this Greek Isle cruise out of Venice. Our traveling companions all agreed. The ship was late leaving Venice (6 ships were leaving that night), but I don't blame the cruise line for that. It did make our 1st stop (Kotor Montenegro) VERY short. I had read that Rhapsody was really needing a makeover due to it's age.We found everything furnished nicely & clean. The crew were all friendly & helpful. The food in the Windjammer & DR was very good.I really liked the size of this ship for older couples (65-69). There was a comedy/string quartet show that was very unique & entertaining & we also liked the magician! My sister commented on how she had forgotten that all crew members on the ship really just want all passengers to be happy & have fun! Lots of live music. Our Jr. suites were very spacious. Much larger than our hotel room in Venice! We had 8538 & 8540. Right past the elevators & through the atrium. Loved the location of our hotel in Venice - Hotel Arlecchino. Rooms were tiny, but quaint. The 5 euro breakfast was amazing! The return hotel - The AC Marriott was more modern, but way overpriced (in my opinion). This cruise definitely made me want to book another ASAP!! Read Less

Overall, we had a great cruise out of Venice on 8/31/19. We had a great itinerary including Kotor, Corfu, Athens, Mykonos, and Keflonia. Unfortunately we were not able to get into Mykonos due to high winds and seas, but the crew was able to turn the day around to a nice day at sea, scrambling to fill in our recreation and entertainment needs. All the other stops were as advertised, offering many different things to do and see. We only availed ourselves of one of the tours on Argostoli to the beach. We were able to find plenty to do on our own and ended up having a great time and seeing some great places in a beautiful country. The ship is old, and shows some of it, though the crew does an outstanding job of keeping it clean and up to date. The food was for the most part good, and plenty was offered. The dining rooms were very nice, well run, and staffed by professionals who worked hard and long to make us happy. The show lounges were fair to middling, and while my wife enjoyed the shows, I made my escape to the casino to try my luck. Entertainment on board was varied and plentiful with lots to do and see, so if you were bored, it had to be your own fault. The entertainment director was all over and made sure we had fun. We especially enjoyed the Diamond lounge with their attentive staff with plentiful drinks and goodies. The only major complaints we had were with the schooner lounge and the centrum area. For some reason, the entertainers there mistake volume for quality in music. The piano player in the schooner was quite good, but not at 120dB. Same goes for the centrum. It's too loud to enjoy yourself or to converse with anyone near. I realize that "if the music's too loud, you're too old", but i love music as much as anyone, but I also enjoy a good conversation without blowing out my throat. Bad music is bad, either loud or soft, good music does not need to be broadcast at earsplitting levels. Read Less

We prefer the smaller ships and like sailing out of Tampa or Port Canaveral. The crew on the smaller ships are more like family and are always so pleasant and helpful. We had My Time dining and had a super wait staff. Plus we got such great service. The embarkation went very smooth and fast. The food in the dining room and in the Windjammer were both excellent. It was nice to see familiar faces because we had just been on the ship the first of March. Hopefully we will be back on board again soon. Love the noon time updates by the Captain and his little "did you know" items. The food in the Diamond lounge was by far superior to many of the other ships. It was great to see Sexy Maria and Isabel. We have had such great experiences with them and our Head Waiter Ionut was great this time. Read Less

First let me say the cruise was 5 stars BUT. I don't like to comment about fellow passengers. We all have our own quirks and habits. This time I have to point out a few of nasty things I saw. Don't sample the buffet with your fingers and worse don't keep licking your fingers while handling food and the utensils used to serve the food. Geez how do you spell norovirus? Use the hand cleaners offered. There were many people who ignored the staffs attempts to give them hand cleaner or would flat out refuse to use the hand cleaner. Not washing your hands is nasty. Last observation. Would you want a house guest to sit at your kitchen table and put their feet, especially their bare feet, on your kitchen table? No? then why would you put your feet on tables used by others? Wow. Having been on more than 60 cruises I can honestly say I've seen this behavior before, but never as much as this past cruise. One has to ask what is happening to common sense and manors. Ok enough negative. The cruise was great. We don't dwell on the negatives, we are on a vacation. We make our own good time, our goal is to have fun not complain. The embarkation was quick and smooth. Only one caution about debarkation. I see the same thing every time RC uses terminal 6. The terminal is too small to handle all the luggage at once. Passengers are assigned numbers for departure and asked to wait on the ship until their number is called. If you leave the ship before your number is called you'll just end up waiting for your luggage. The luggage area is so small they can only put out a few luggage numbers at a time. So unless you don't mind standing around, waiting for your luggage, it's best to wait on the ship and have an extra cup of coffee until your number is called. The ship is old but very well maintained. The crew is constantly cleaning and trying to keep up with the normal maintenance. The crew is friendly and always willing to help with any issue. The Rhapsody is scheduled for some refurbishing this fall, but it really doesn't need much. We dined at the Windjammer buffet. The food was plentiful and varied from good to excellent. Each day some items were always available, burgers, fries, salad, ECT the rest of the buffet changed daily. The Windjammer was clean and the staff was great. If you go on a cruise just to relax or you want to be entertained, the Rhapsody has it all. There are activities all day long, music/dancing, shows and game shows at night. You should find something for all ages. it doesn't have some of the entertainment found on the larger ships, like wave riders, zip lines but still enough to do. I can't say enough about the crew. Maybe because it's a smaller ship, but the crew/staff is about the friendliest we ever encountered. Read Less

We decided to go on this cruise, this ship - because we went with a group of friends, about 40 of us altogether. We have been on 15 cruises as of now. The previous 4 were on " mega-ships." We also prefer to go eastern Caribbean - but, in order to be with our friends, we decided to go on this smaller, somewhat older ship, on this route. We had low expectations, thinking the better staff, service - is usually on the flagship boats. So this ship - the crew, the food, the entertainment - they hit it out-of-the-ballpark ! I don't recall ever seeing such a focused, dedicated staff as this one. The entertainment was excellent - people were friendly - and the crew couldn't do enough to accommodate us. The ship was also very clean - cheery - a lot of interesting artwork around the ship too- something we are seeing less and less of that. I want to re-visit the food. The food in the main dining room was quite above average. We did the premium dining 2 nights as well, the Italian one night, the steak house the other night. We got the 2-for-1 deal, had to do the meals the first 2 nights. The meals were rich, and a bit much for my " mature " digestive system. ( Eyes bigger than my stomach these days !!! ) Great food, classic Northern Italian. And of course, great aged steaks, like any premium steak house in any major city !! Worth every penny, even at full-price !!! . The food servers went way above and beyond the requirements of their job. And they were entertaining and engaging. Maybe the " rah-rah-cheering " sessions at the end of every meal got a little carried away, but they DID deserve to be acknowledged and recognized for all their efforts. Both by applause AND by appropriate gratuities at the end of the cruise. The people worked HARD to make our trip the best it could be. We ( wife and I ) don't do excursions anymore -been there, done that. We WISH some policies were a little different, like being able to get a pitcher of water without having to pay $7.95 for a service charge. We wish the cost of on-board communications / internet was more reasonable. We traveled on a budget, so we skipped that. Didn't NEED to be in touch with anyone back home. Read Less

Wonderful service across the board. Everyone was pleasant, friendly, professional and smiling at all times. The main dining room staff were stars. Our server and assistant waiter were wonderful, Socorro and Fernando. Maria in the main dining room was wonderful as well as Isabella. The week I traveled had mostly seniors and a few families with small children. My son's ages 10 and 8 chose not to go to kids club since it was geared towards smaller children. MSC cruises had a better children's program in my opinion. Although I had a wonderful trip, I wish the ship was more modern and had more entertainment such as movie theatre, game room for kids with board games, pool table, etc...however, the service more than made up for it. As Diamond Plus passengers, were looking forward to the experience of the Rhapsody of the seas. Yes, we got a great deal on an inside cabin but do prefer a window or above. First, the port of Tampa was a breeze to get to from the airport. We chose to use an Uber both ways and were extremely impressed with the whole process, first time using them, highly recommend. Upon getting to the port, another first, was not too impressed. Long lines, not orderly, just different as compared to other ports. Got on ship and noticed immediately that it is well worn. Never saw a buffet so crowded on the first day and every day after that. They actually had to stop people from entering at different times during the cruise because it was so packed. Never experienced that on ships of the same class in the RCCL fleet. Food was good overall. Believe it or not, got better toward the end! Cabin was kept clean, happy with size and room Stewart. Ate most nights in MDR and poor waiter had too many tables, it was crowded. Food & service was as expected, didn't wait too long with the exception of a couple of nights. Could have used Concierge lounge but decided on Diamond Lounge after first night, was faster and more relaxed. Entertainment was good, RCCL shows were impressive and guest entertainers OK. Carried our own luggage off for an early flight, no problem, was one of the first off ship. Uber was there and waiting. Would we go out of Tampa again? Maybe, but prefer NY, Baltimore and Port Canaveral. Better ships and experience overall. Read Less

Our cruise on the RCCL Rhapsody was full of relaxation, tequila, and cerveza. Our embarkation was quick and easy thanks to being able to do a lot of the check in on line. Our oceanview cabin was clean and spacious enough for two people. Our cabin steward kept it clean and tidy and we never saw him. A variety of activities were offered by the ship but none really excited us so we opted (for the first time on a cruise) to just kick back and do some bar hopping in port~ thanks to Cozumel Bar Hop ~ and beach relaxing at Krazy Lobster in Costa Maya. The evening meals in the main dining room had less options than we were used to on other ships but they were still adequate enough to please us. Our servers were wonderful and made sure we had everything we wanted ~ including the night I wanted 2 bowls of Lobster Bisque. (Well they actually only brought me one but it was a HUGE salad bowl full and it was delicious). We ate breakfast in the Windjammer buffet each morning and definitely had adequate offerings except for the pastries but judge them for yourself because I am a pastryaholic. If we were onboard at lunch time, we also ate in the Windjammer which had a good selection. We did attend a couple shows in the Hollywood Theater which were entertaining as well as relaxing. My son actually won money in the casino and that is a first for cruise ship casinos. Disembarkation was equally smooth and we made a swift get away via taxi to our early flight. Overall this was a relaxing, stress free cruise from TAMPA and I would totally recommend it if relaxation is your primary goal. Read Less

Chose this cruise because of our proximity to Tampa. Embarkation and debarkation were the fastest and easiest of any cruise we've taken. The food and service in the main dining room was excellent. The food on the lido was very good also. The ship is getting old and shows it. It is very clean though. The main disappointment was the casino. The smoke is over powering and the variety of machines is not satisfactory. Way too many people were sitting at machines just to smoke, not playing. Management appeared to be in different to this. Our inside cabin was comfortable and kept very clean. Our Steward was very helpful and provided ice and wine cooler and glasses as needed. We usually book a balcony cabin but the price was so good for inside that we couldn't resist. The bar and pool service was very good. The delicious free soft serve ice cream made Ben and Jerry's unnecessary. All and all a nice 7 day getaway. Read Less

I was lucky to be served by Gopal and Dominic every night at the Main Dining and they were the best waiters in the world and the best I have ever had in my life they were very kind, funny and very helpful, if I have the opportunity to take another Cruise would choose the same and of course Gopal and Dominic too. Thanks to you, we spent one of the best holidays of our lives with my family, with my eyes closed I really recommend rhapsody of the seas. We choose this cruise due to the deals being offered and the places it was going. The room we chose was 2509 not really knowing it’s location but we hindsight we wouldn’t have chosen it due to the fact that we were right over the bow thruster which when operated was very very noisy and the room vibrated tremendously good if you want an early morning call. We thought we had booked anytime dining but was stuck with one table, food was ok but when my wife got a risotto which was glue pi the waiter asked if we wanted another but she refused, after that we ended up in the self service restaurant which had more chose, we believe that the food has gone down in quality to try and get you to buy the food in the on board speciality restaurants. I could not have chosen a better company or ship for my first cruise. Everything was perfect. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. A credit to Royal Caribbean. I loved the entertainment in the Broadway theatre every night (ventriloquist, magician, Beatles tribute act, latin/ballroom dancers and balancing act). They were ably supported by the resident singers and dancers who performed three different shows (country, ballroom and singers/songwriters). Throughout the ship many other entertainment options were available. The piano man in the Schooner bar was good and I enjoyed the Up and Up dance band. Elvis (cruise director who has some moves) and Paolo (activities manager) organised everything superbly. Very funny and entertaining too. I also liked how the staff were included in several evening presentations enabling passengers and senior management to demonstrate their appreciation. Choice and quality of food was excellent. We spent the majority of meal times in the Windjammer. Chops Grille is fantastic particularly the steak and lobster (extra fee for the latter). We visited Montenegro (Kotor), Greece (Santorini and Katakolon which is the gateway to Olympia) and Croatia (Split) in 7 days after leaving from Venice. The inside rooms had all the amenities we required and accommodated 1 person sufficiently. Two would be a tight squeeze. I would not hesitate about booking another cruise with Royal Caribbean on Rhapsody of the Seas or another ship. Read Less

I am currently catching up on my cruise reviews. My husband and I were aboard Rhapsody of the Seas Aug 2018 for our honeymoon. Since then we have taken 2 more RC cruises, so we were able to compare. I truly loved Rhapsody of the Seas. I am a pretty picky person when it comes to accommodations and food and I didn't have much if anything to complain about. Food: The food was excellent, actually the best of the three other RC cruises we took. We had a meal package BOGO, so we ate at Giovannys which was excellent, and the Asian restaurant which I suggest skipping and going to Chopped or Giovannys. The Asian restaurant was my one complaint. It was our first night on the cruise, we made reservations at 9pm, we got there at 9:05 and the manager told us we were late and were not able to sit! So warning, do not be late for reservations.... Chefs Table: Food and wine were unbelievable, worth the money! We left from Venice-Katakolon-Santorini-Montenegro-Split-Venice. It was the perfect itinerary. -Venice we stayed at the NH collection that was right on the grand canal for 2 nights prior to the ship. To get to the hotel was $100 private water taxi, to get from the grand canal to the ship was a $95 water taxi, very rough water to the ship, it was a little scary but fun. The hotel was amazing if you are looking for a place to stay in venice I would highly recommend it. -Katakolon I loved, it is where the first olympics took place, a cute village close by olympia, and then a nice winery we stopped at. Santorini- Beautiful, however I franctured my tailbone walking down the stairs back to the ship so please do not take the steps down, wait in the long line for the skyglide it goes fast I heard. The stairs are so slippery and there are donkeys going to the bathroom up and down them. On another note, you must go to Oia, beautiful town and I recommend going to Santos winery! Split-Just get off the ship and walk to the town in split its about a 10 min walk, no need to do a tour. We did one and we wished we did not because we had no time to see the town of split! Montenegro- The most beautiful place I have been. We go back this Summer and I cannot wait. There are a lot of sweat bees, so do not wear perfume! I do not recommend taking tours through the ship, they are not very good. I now use Viators, they have reviews and you can see which one people like. Would I go on Rhapsody again, no, I would like to stick to newer ships, but for a first cruise it was great! Read Less

Nice cruise itinerary. The staff were magnificent. The food in Windjammer Restaurant was very variable with lots of choices. The only downside was that the hot choices were not very hot only warm. The biggest criticism though was the entertainment. The entertainers did their best but some of the productions were a little amateurish. Also “Big bellyflopping competition “ was a bit holiday camp, but there you go, each to their own. Also beware of tipping on you onboard bill at the end of cruise, very expensive if you don’t take care. We tipped where we thought it was deserved and on querying the added daily tip was told that staff relied on these to boost their salaries. Surely Royal Caribbean should pay decent wages to these hard working crew members instead ,not for the passengers to subsidise their salaries. The ports of call were nice with probably Kotor in Montenegro the outstanding one. Very pretty but very hot. It’s worth doing an organised tour of Athens but get a Hop on Hop off bus just outside the port as it much cheaper than the expensive ones that are touted on the ship. Read Less

First time cruise and had been recommended to go RC. The emarkation process was efficient and timely with a good welcome from staff. Our cabin was an inside cabin which was bigger than we had expected beds were really comfortable . My personal preference next time would be an outside cabin as I like outside light to waken me in the morning. There was no fridge /mini bar which would have been helpful for storing additional water. We only used the informal Windjammer food facilities and always found something suitable to eat.unlike other buffet facilities we have experienced food was replenished regularly although occasionally some not as hot as they could have been. Staff throughout the ship were friendly and very helpful and always appeared to be happy in their work. The entertainment from Beta 4 (musicians ) in the Centrium was great. The female vocalist had a superb voice and had great interaction with the audience. Best night was the 70's disco night where Elvis, Eric and the team gave a colourful lively performance. We also enjoyed the Flag night where the flags of the various nationalities of crew members were dispayed and some of these staff provided dance entertainment from their countries. Excursions to Dubrovnik was well organised although time allotted was a bit too short due to chairlift queues. Thoroughly enjoyed our cruise and would definitely go again, Read Less

My husband has Parkinson's and uses a scooter and we thought that this would be a relaxing fun getaway! Boy, were we wrong! The food was terrible, in the dining room and if they hadn't had fresh prepared eggs for breakfast in the buffet, I wouldn't have found anything to eat!! Everything was a hassle, from the first night in the My Time Dining room, when we were run around the entire room, with my husband trying not to run into anything, to the inedible food, lack of knowledge of the food. Our waited said everything was "excelente'"! if you ever asked his opinion. It appeared that much of the food was frozen, pre cooked, unseasoned, etc. Yuck!! When we requested info about getting my husband off in Key West, due to us parking at the Navy Pier and also with the tenders in Belize, they just shook their heads, and said too bad so sad. Therefore, he had to go on a lift on a shuttle to and from town in Key West, which was a hassle and couldn't go anywhere in Belize. I went on the carriage ride in Belize by myself and it was okay, but truthfully no one would ever go to Belize City for a vacation. They would go to the cayes or jungle. We did go to most of the evening shows, but they were very mediocre at best. The gal that "impersonated" Celine Dion was awful & was just promoting herself and having us sing Happy Birthday to her boyfriend. Very amateurish! The magician was interesting, but didn't really do much of his act. Everything on this cruise was very second class and mediocre. We did enjoy our cabin 8050 a handicapped Jr Suite. The only issue was that is was near the centrum and very noisy some nights with the game shows. We will never go on RCCL again and probably never cruise again. With all the rules, hassles, time changes, lack of any caring or assistance, it would be more pleasant to stay home. On last thing, we had requested special assistance to disembark the ship and were turned down and had a very difficult time getting off and then our luggage had disappeared and no one really cared. (much more complicated than this, but I don't want to write anymore.) Read Less

We decided to take this cruise on Rhapsody of the Seas because it was out of Tampa, near where we live and thought it would be a nice relaxing 7 night cruise. For the most part, embarkation and disembarkation went good. We used a porter for our luggage at disembarkation and we were able to bypass the lines and get straight to customs and immigration and right out of the terminal. The Good, Bad and the Ugly: The Good: While the Rhapsody of the Seas is older and showing its age, the guest areas still look good. The Theatre, Broadway Melodies Theatre, was beautiful. Our cabin steward did a great job. The cruise director and assistant director was also great and entertaining. The entertainment staff tried to keep cruisers entertained with limited space and resources to offer what the larger ships offer. The Bad: The food in the Windjammer was terrible and the selection was limited. The food was either overcooked or undercooked and that selections of food was limited in my opinion since the types of food offered was so different that I found it hard to find things to eat at times. (Now I will admit that I am not big on trying foods I am not use to eating.) I also saw staff trying to get out of working by trying to sit and talk to guest for long periods of time or pushing carts of dirty dishes back and forth I am guessing to look busy. Also, I will admit that I am use to the larger ships and lack of selection could be due to the size of the kitchen on board. Also, as Diamond members, be aware that they are really watching to make sure only Diamond members and above are using the Diamond Lounge and I had to show my seapass card three times in the Diamond Lounge the first visit to prove I was Diamond which seemed excessive, but I was told they had a problem with people coming into the lounge who were not Diamond and above. Once they got to know us, it was no longer a problem for the rest of the cruise. The Ugly: The real disappointment was with our waiter. I will preface this with that we were just unlucky to get a bad waiter and other waiters might be great. Our waiter seemed overwhelmed. He would forget to tell us what the fish of the day was and did not know what the sorbet and sugar free ice cream were. He said he would check and then never do so. He also would not entertain special requests. For example, for two nights shrimp cocktail was on the menu. One night it was not on the menu and I asked if I could get some shrimp cocktail. He told me it was not on the menu so he would check. I said I wanted it if it was available. He never checked as he did not bring me any and the waiter at the table next to us brought several shrimp cocktails out to his table. To add insult to injury, I asked for two different desserts and come dessert time, I was given one dessert and he never brought my other dessert. He brought a second dessert to another person at the table and it could have been mine but who is to know. My wife asked to know what the sorbet was for the night and except for one night was never told. It also appeared to my wife and I that the nightly menus had less items on them than on the larger ships. Again, it might be due to the smaller size of the kitchen. We also had one instance of a beverage server who just totally ignored us at one of the lounges and we had to leave and go to another lounge to get served a drink. Not sure what his problem was. Our cabin was an inside cabin on deck three. It was okay except for the bathroom door on the bottom was all rusted and there was rust in the shower and on the bathroom wall. The bed was hard as a rock even though it had a pad on it. Also, the power plugs were so loose due to use that they would not hold a plug in any longer. They just fell out unless you held them in. Obviously, being an older ship, the cabin amenities were limited as well. The TV system had no way for you to look up your sea pass account and there was no cooler/refrigerator in the cabin. There were other issues on the cruise but overall, The ship is aging and showing its wear and does not have what the other newer larger ships have to offer. I guess you just need to be aware of this if you go on the Rhapsody of the Seas. The ports of call were Key West, Cozumel, Belize and Costa Maya. We have been to each of these ports several times before and I will just give some thoughts on them. First, Key West for the most part has recovered from Hurricane Irma and is still a great port to visit. For Cozumel, we were at the International pier. The only issue I have with Cozumel is that the taxi costs going to downtown are getting overpriced. It is now $10.00 a person each way to go to downtown. So, as a couple, it would cost us round trip $40.00 to go downtown so we could spend more money. We decided to save our money and just go through the shops right off of the pier. They really need to rethink charging so much if they want cruisers to go downtown to shop or drink in the bars. Costa Maya had some new shops and you can swim with dolphins for a reasonable price right off of the pier and you don't need a shore excursion ahead of time, just come in your swimsuit. They also have some swimming pools with swim up bars right off of the pier. If you are not shopping right off the pier or going on a shore excursion at Costa Maya or Belize then you do not want to walk past the tourist shops as it does not feel safe and there is not really anything to see or do. Note to Disabled Persons: Because this ship is older, there were no push buttons to open doors in the bathrooms and around the ship. There were some specific disabled bathrooms but they were limited throughout the ship. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to try Royal C. out. Once we were on the ship we felt as though we were just another customer. The bar staff never greeted you with a smile and never seemed eager to please. At one point my wife in a funny way asked the bartender to smile and he came back at her with "It's Busy". Very unacceptable considering what you are asked to pay. The stewardess (Nita) seemed as if she only wanted to do the minimum required. I did a survey earlier but never did it ask about what I thought of the pricing of services such an alcohol, merchandise, or shore excursions. We didn't do the drink package because we knew one of us it would not have been worth it but it requires both people in a stateroom to purchase. It turns out that I would have been better off getting it. Here's the math and what to expect: Beer $6.95 + $1.25(18% gratuity) =$8.20 per beer. $8.20X12 beers =$98.00 for a 12 pack! I know that they need to make money but everthing is an additional 18% gratuity on top of $14.50 gratuity required per day per person. Oh by the way they leave you an envelope on the last night asking you to tip some more. The shore excursions are considerably overpriced if you consider how less expensive it is to book online with the same thing directly. We actually just wait til we get in port and then go find the things we want to do and it is considerably cheaper (not for everyone I know but we don't mind it). Point is Royal C. dollars you to death and then wants more. No one ask me if I needed anything on the ship except "would you like the drink package" "would you like to sign up for another cruise" or "would you like to reserve one of our specialty restaurants". All of which are more $ of course. In the end Carnival is not priced much different but they sure make me feel like I'm getting more for my $. The windjammer is not open for early risers, you will have to wait until about 7:30 on days at sea. The food overall was good and no issues at all really except late night pizza(cardboard). The ship was not overcrowded but there were a lot of older people(50+) and the ship seemed to fit them. The piano bar was a dissapointment, the Schooner bar is a quiet space, there is no sports bar, the casino bar is 4 stools wide with no stools, the pool bar was ok but only one and they were in no hurry, & lastly the R Bar....well that is the centrum and was ok. Oh by the way they tell you once you get on the ship it is a non smoking ship mainly but there are 3 places you can....Outside on portside/right side deck 5, one small area on pool deck 9 but not near the bar or pool area, and in the casino by the bar area but not in the casino. I don't smoke but my wife does and it as an inconveinence. We will go back to Carnival (been 3 times before) and highly doubt we will go Royal C. again. & days definitly too long on this ship. We had such a great time. Everyone were so friendly. Every morning greeted by the best coffee and orange juice. Loved the adult salt water pool, very peaceful with a bar service and food available. The trivia games were such great fun, made new friends every game. We took 3 classes; the sushi making class, the champagne brunch and tour of Edelweiss restaurant, and wine tasting and pairing. My husband and I could hardly believe the sushi we made it was not only delicious but beautiful to the eye. The tour of the restaurant was informative and amazing. The champagne brunch was yummy. Loved the wine pairing. Learned so many useful tips for appreciating wine. We only did one excursion that was the Tale of 2 Cities in Belize. Very informative tour. Glad it was in air conditioned bus. The tour guide gave a compassionate history of Belize. The ruins was a once in a lifetime sight. We had the 3 dinner package. We loved everyone of the restaurants. Edelweiss was excellent. Read Less

Smooth embarkation and debarkation. Ship was well appointed and clean and nicely detailed. Cabin was roomy and convenient furniture especially the lighted vanity mirrored cabinets. Dining had a better choice than the specialty restaurants on other cruises we have sailed. Entertainment was top notch great variety and talented players. Centrum had continuous music, dance instructions and game direction. Service was beyond our expectations friendly and accommodating. Most special amenity was the Enclosed by glass Solarium which includes a children free environment with large salt water pool 2 hot tubs and sun bathing area. First cruise I have been on that had a full steam room sauna, showers towels poolside and in health spa. The area also provided regular beverages coffee tea juices cold water and Ice. There was a food service that provided salads, fruits paninis, deserts, breakfast entrees lean meats and appetisers. Ports especially Costa Mayer provided variety and great music/drinks and clean pool experience great lounge chairs tables and chairs with great views of the ocean. Read Less

They never took the refrigerator out to fix it. They just left it in the room. They said all refrigerators were taken.Next if you get the non alc drink package you can't get non alc beer. They said since it has .05 alc. you can't get it. I can't believe it but true. Also my wife had a coupon for 25% off bamboo sheets the man said it does not apply for full beds just king and queen. The coupon did not say that. Other then that everything was good. The crew most helpful and the food was good. The shore excursions were good and what they said would happen on the cruse excursions happen. The ship overall was clean and moped up water or food off the floor. Read Less

The shore excursions were awesome...we loved the dolphin excursion in Cozumel and the snorkeling in Belize. Overall this was an amazing vacation. They had a ventriloquist onboard was had a great show. I didn't care for the headliner comedians. I wished they had more nighttime dance parties. This ship had an older crowd..but that didn't bother me personally though if you are looking for the club/spring break scene, this probably wouldn't be your cup of tea. If you are looking for excellent service and relaxing atmosphere... I'd definitely recommend this. The entertainment director was awesome, very enthusiastic and funny. I loved the Love and Marriage game show. Also the Windjammer buffet was always fantastic with plenty of seating. Cafe latitudes' coffee was delicious as well Read Less
