Seabourn Venture: Worth the Wait

Review for Seabourn Venture to Arctic

Based on our trip to the Antarctic on the Seabourn Quest in 2019 we chose this new expedition ship when we decided to visit Greenland. When completion of the Venture was delayed a total of four times and our initial sailing date was advanced by almost exactly one year we were initially a bit concerned about how things would come together. But to cut to the finish, I guess the time was well spent ...

NORTHERN LIGHTS & ICEBERGS & FJORDS (and Covid)

Review for Star Pride to Arctic

We chose this cruise for Iceland and Greenland. Plus Canada. We circumvented Iceland and saw some highlights however in hindsight we should have joined the pre land cruise to see blue lagoon and the loop road. The excursions were a long ride from the port and the ports were middle of no where….yes that’s Iceland. The weather typical for region. Rain, winds then sun! ***NORTHERN ...

Excellent cruise; interesting ports

Review for Celebrity Summit to Arctic

We booked this cruise to use up a pre-pandemic credit from 2019. (Multiple intervening attempts failed.) We are grateful to Celebrity for the credit, for the extensions they granted to those of us with credits, and for getting back to sailing. We went to Reykjavik six days early. There is plenty to do in Iceland and a mere port stop or a day or day is insufficient. Everyone we met was ...

Review for Viking Mars to Arctic

6-10 Cruises • Age 70s

We chose this cruise for a few reasons. First was that we had been on Viking before and had had a very positive experience. Second was the itinerary. It was exactly what we were looking for. And finally we wanted a smaller ship than we had been going on in the past. All our criteria were met. The service was top notch. The only issue we had were the specialty dining rooms. In one the service was ...

New Ship, Nice in So Many Ways But Not Ready For Prime Time

Review for SH Vega to Arctic

SH Vega is a purpose-built ship for polar cruising, hurriedly launched from it's Finnish shipyard in July, 2022 to avoid possible sanctions due to it's then-Russian ownership and fallout from the Russia-Ukraine conflict. It is thoughtfully designed and has spacious public areas, a large observation lounge with bar on the 7th Deck, cabins on Decks 5 and 6 and a nice dining room on Deck 4. Deck 8 is ...

An unforgetable cruise

Review for Scenic Eclipse to Arctic

We chose to cruise on Scenic Eclipse for the adventure it promised. However, we received much more than we expected as the yacht provided pure luxury in the remote places we visited. The owners, management and staff are to be congratulated on achieving the ultimate in global luxury yacht cruising. The best service we have ever experienced , coupled with the most friendly and efficient crew, ...

Review for Star Pride to Arctic

My wife and I recently enjoyed a cruise on the Windstar’s Star Pride. We had traveled on board the Seabourn Pride many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Let me make something quite clear, I did not expect Seabourn’s standards of service and cuisine on board the Star Pride. (See footnote for an amusing bit of Seabourn history.) They are different cruise lines and work to ...

Very nice cruise in spite of bad weather.

Review for Norwegian Star to Arctic

We choose this cruise because of the opportunity to visit Greenland for the first time and return to Iceland which we had seen on an NCL cruise 5 years ago but not on the Star but on the Gem. We were concerned that the ship was much smaller and older then the ships we typically travel but because of the ports we decided to book it. By the time of our cruise we were aware the last scheduled ...

Avoid this ship

Review for Norwegian Star to Arctic

User Avatar

This is the ship that Norwegian chooses to send to the arctic and to the antarctic. They should not. It's a below average ship, maybe similar to the ones carnival uses for its bargain cruises. The food is somewhere between mediocre (on the high end) and palatable. It is bland, and the ingredients are of poor quality. When the highlight of every meal is the soup, something is off. But ...

Norther Europe (Greenland and Iceland) itinerary wrongly designed. We did not visited all scheduled ports

Review for Norwegian Star to Arctic

User Avatar

In 2019 a similar itinerary on the NCL Spirit was also not achieved. We did not visit Iceland. Then this time we decided to take a cruise from Iceland itself. Well, our first cruise after the pandemic and after two years planning, we took the NCL Star from Reykjavik to visit 3 ports in Greenland and 3 ports in Iceland. Itinerary timing is wrongly designed because at these latitudes, the weather ...
