The 92 cabins are divided between the Odyssey, Explorer and Navigator Decks. In total, the ship has 71 standard staterooms, 12 Deluxe Suites, eight single cabins and one Owner's Suite. The unusually high number of cabins for solo travelers demonstrates how Vantage listens to feedback from its customers -- many of whom are widows and widowers or simply choose to cruise alone or not share cabins with their traveling companions.

The single cabins, with one twin bed, measure 125 square feet apiece and are all situated on the lower Odyssey Deck. Also on this deck are 12 standard cabins, each measuring 165 square feet. All the cabins on this deck have two windows set high in the wall that do not open.

The central Explorer Deck has 39 standard cabins; 12 more, the same size, are on the upper Navigator Deck. Also situated midship on the upper deck are the Deluxe Suites, which measure 250 square feet, and the Owner's Suite, which measures 350 square feet. Cabins on the Explorer and Navigator decks all have French balconies, with floor-to-ceiling doors that open fully into the cabin.

All staterooms, apart from the single cabins, have queen-size beds, with individual duvets, that can be converted into a twin-bed configuration. Cabins are decorated in muted tones that are easy on the eye, with ample use of attractive light wood fittings. They are well-equipped with ample storage space, including good-sized soft-close drawers, a full hanging wardrobe with plenty of individual wooden hangers (instead of the irritating and fiddly fixed variety), a desk/dressing table with a mirror above and a small, circular table with two chairs, one of which can be turned around to use at the desk area. There are two bedside cabinets and a good range of lighting, including a standard lamp and individual reading lights on the bedhead. Suitcases can be stored beneath the bed. Cabins have a full-length mirror, two coat hooks on the back of the cabin door and one umbrella for guest use while onboard.

Each cabin has a clock radio, iPod dock, telephone, safe, plug-in hairdryer and bottled water replenished daily. There is also a stocked minibar, with items that cost extra in single and standard cabins. (Prices range from €2.30 for an orange juice to €7.50 for a small bottle of sparkling wine.) The excellent flat-screen "infotainment" system includes European and U.S. TV channels, including CNN, MSNBC, Discovery and Weather, plus a vast choice of movies on demand, ranging from classics to the latest blockbusters. The intuitive system allows passengers to keep track of their onboard account, view lunch and dinner menus, check the daily program and excursion schedule, follow the ship's progress with live GPS tracking and research -- and even book -- their next Vantage vacation. There is also a bow webcam and a slightly disconcerting lounge webcam, which is useful if you want to listen to the cruise director's port talk from the comfort of your cabin, but makes you feel rather voyeuristic at other times.

The onboard electrical current is 220v; in addition to European two-pin sockets, each cabin has a useful 110v socket for U.S. plugs. There is a 120/230v shaver socket in the bathroom. The sockets next to the desk/dressing table are well situated for using the hairdryer and recharging phones and personal devices; however, the two situated close to the floor beneath the shelves of the bedside tables are hard to reach.

Bathrooms feature a good-size walk-in shower with a glass door, two well-placed soap dishes and a retractable clothesline. There is storage space beneath the basin, a shaving/make-up mirror and four towel hooks on the back of the bathroom door. Toiletries are from L'Occitane -- soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion -- which are replaced as needed.

Additional amenities in the suites include remote control curtains, coffeemaker, robes and slippers. The Deluxe Suites have a shower and bath tub, and the Owner's Suite has a shower and separate whirlpool bath, plus individually controlled tilt-up mattresses. Guests in Deluxe Suites have a complimentary minibar stocked on arrival; the complimentary minibar in the Owner's Suite is restocked for the duration of the cruise. Passengers in the Owner's Suite also benefit from a free laundry service.
