After all previous cruises we sailed, we select this one since it had an appropriate itinerary for us. Our cabin was well kept throughout the cruise. Excursion Destination Staff did a good job. Reception desk staff were friendly and helpful. Medical clinic staff was professional and excellent. Food and beverage staff service was ok but management for this service must learn what to improved from Regent Seven Sea Cruise Management. On board Nautica, we had one and only one free Captain cocktail during the 31 day cruise. Cheap. For Christmas Day at sea and New Year, nothing from cheap Nautica Oceania. Even their cheap wines were expensive. Oceania Nautica has to improve on their "fine cuisine". Food was ok for the money we paid for. Toscana has a large menu but food is only good Italian food. I had to return my plate and the Chief Cook visited me. Polo Grill was fine. The Grand Dining Room was as just great and we appreciated the food there. The Staff was very friendly and provided an excellent service. (Vijay and Mady) What a chaotic experience during disembarking Nautica on the wharf in Cape Town. No Nautica staff to help. They had our money already...who cares! We and other passengers had to carry our luggages about 1500 feet from the terminal building to outside the terminal. No real taxi available at the terminal building for disembarking passengers, and they were many of us. Outside taxis were scum people. 50usd for a 15usd trip to a local Cape Town hotel.(total rip-off) Oceania staff let me suggest to you: "First impression is important but the last one is just as important". So we speak now to our friends about this rip-off rather the overall cruise. We would NOt recommend Oceania Cruises to any of our friends and have all ready informed our travel agent accordingly. Selecting an itinerary first with Oceania was a mistake for us and value for money was not there. Read Less

This cruise was very reasonably priced and the itinerary appealed to us. In fact it was so cheap that my expectations were not high.We had been on a number of cruises with different cruise lines including The Queen Mary so I feel we are in a position to compare. First of all, I’m afraid the embarkation was chaotic, as all passengers seem to arrive together. The result was that it took us over 3 hours to embark which was not pleasant. On the other hand, disembarkation went really smoothly with no delays. The cabin and we had a balcony was surprisingly good , not luxurious , a bit dated but the bed was comfortable and we had as much space as we needed. We had been allocated the earlier dining which didn’t always suit us , so we very often ate in the buffet area which gave us more flexibility. The food was fine , not gourmet but we enjoyed it. The best choice was definitely as you would expect Italian especially the pasta and husband loved the bread and the desserts. The theatre shows were mixed, excellent and mediocre but I would suggest appealed to a variety of tastes. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed the Italian tenor and The Beatles look-a-likes.Though not as sophisticated as others we have enjoyed on other cruises, the shows were entertaining. The shore excursions on the whole were excellent. Overall, the service from all the crew was A1.Unfortunately the behaviour of some of the guests was abhorrent. They were rude to the crew and to the other guests. Thankfully it was only a minority but I was delighted that I had a cabin. I would suggest a movie in the theatre in the afternoons especially during sea days, and notices regarding towel- hugging chairs and sun beds around the pool area would alleviate tensions and hence make the cruise more pleasant for all. We chose this cruise because it left from Durban, South Africa which allowed us to tick off a stay at Kruger National Park as well as a visit to Petra in Jordan. The cruise embarkation in Durban would have to have been the longest, most shambolic and most disorganised we have EVER experienced. The staff, apparently (or so we were told) were new. All we can say is that they hadn't been trained properly (if at all) or they were just inept. They were unfriendly, even to the point of being surly, they had NO idea what they were doing and didn't, really, even seem to care. The LIFE BOAT drill was a joke apart from showing the passengers how to put on their life vests the rest was a garbled, incomprehensible mess, delivered over the loudspeakers (and that's an overstatement, you could hardly hear them) At dinner the waiters were inefficient and had no idea how to serve. Bread was offered from a basket, and bad luck if you were the last served, you got whatever was left. White wine was just left on the table - you had to ask for an ice bucket. Water - you had to buy a bottle or go without, tea or coffee - again you had to buy it or go without. The food was poorly presented and poorly cooked - the choice was limited. The Maitre D was a rude and arrogant man who stood around doing nothing. Tender, at, mercifully the one port, was horrendous - the ship docked at 8.00am, we got off at 12.30pm. Laundry - in by 10.00am, promised for a return by 5.00pm the next day - more likely by 5.00pm 4 days later (and then, only after repeated complaints, to out cabin steward) The lecturers, consisted of just TWO people - a charming lady who talked about the various ports and a gentleman who talked about boats, ships etc. - he was very interesting but he had all the delivery skills of a wet lettuce. The ENTERTAINMENT in the theatre was good - although a lack of LIVE music or stage sets was rather disappointing as was the brevity around 30 minutes. The Cruise Director insisted on introducing each show in about 5 languages - she droned on and on and on The Captain - was a ghost, saw him once. The ship in general, was reasonable, although the pools were rather limited and there was no poolside dining options as with other ships. An oddity was that on the quite wide promenade deck - NOT one chair was to be seen, not one. The one good thing was their alcohol prices - the cheapest we've ever experienced. OMG - for me to EVER travel on MSC again - they'd have to be dirt cheap or be taken over by PRINCESS CRUISES. Read Less

We did the Sokkie cruise from 08 to 11 March 2019....which was supper...mostly white Afrikaans speaking passengers onboard which all like the Afrikaans Sokkie Music.. so the vibe on the ship was great.. Cruising these days are not cheap any more and we staying in Pretoria so to travel to Dbn and back is also costing a lot. Therefor to make it worthwhile we decided to do the back to back cruise. Embarkation and disembarkation went well. We are pensioners and cruising a lot. The MSC Musica is a beautiful ship but we prefer the outlay of the MSC Sinfonias pool area more. On the day of embarkation the eating arrangements was quite chaotic...you were standing in long ques to get to the food just to find that some of the dishes put out was already finished...and to got a seat to sit down with your plate of food was even worse.During the whole cruise we never had a decend cup of hot coffee from the coffee stations. Hot water was kept in a non electric urn to make your coffee from.. and only cold milk was available...terrible...and most of the times there was no coffee powder available...you have to beg someone to find you a coffee sachet or two...only ready made American coffee...also luke warm ...was most of the times available. The juice at breakfast times is also a problem...either to sweat...or most of the times to watery...The food was good...not a big variety...same food over and over during the cruise..we only had fried fish once during the whole week...fried or grilled fish is much nicer than the steamed fish over and over on the menu during dinner times in the restaurant...give us a choice from the menu.. fried, grilled or steamed fish...What happened to the prawns on this cruise...we only had one prawn one night on a plate with a piece of fish and a calamari steak that nobody ate because the calamari steak was to chewy..you cant prepare calamari steaks in advance...rather make fried calamari rings...much better option for a lot of people...there was calamari rings for a starter but the portion was very small...we never got garlic snails or sushi on the menu for a starter ..may be MSC should put it on their menu....the south africans love it!!!!The sushi in the Kaito Sushi Bar was quite expansive...unaffordable for us.... The entertainment was great...specially the entertainment by the Sokkie team...Chambels en friends..most enjoyable..The Duo Resonance band was also very good..outstanding..most enjoyable..nice music for dancing...the best in a long time...it would have been nice if only they could have played alone in one of the lounges at all times and the Definition Band in another lounge...it gives everybody a choice to enjoy what ever they want to. When the Duo Resonance band was playing the dance floor was permanently full....that say something!!!! Overall the service and the staff onboard was good. I really hope that MSC can try to make things better in the problem areas....as we already booked the South Bound cruise in October on the Orchestra coming to SA as well as 3 cabins for the New Years cruise in December to Mauritius with our married children and grandchildren for my mothers 80th Birthday....as I said ...to cruise these days is costing a lot of money...!!!!so at least give us nice food and great entertainment... Staff, Cruise Director, Chefs, food and service absolutely first rate, and not just for a few days...it was 35 days of pampering. FANTASTIC... keep it up Oceania. CONS: The drinks were pricey, but we could have picked a drink package. Casino was very quiet slots extremely tight, but Manager explained Oceania has just taken contract back from previous independent operator and will be making improvements and changes... PROS: Superb food in all venues. Best shellfish and steaks at sea without question. Most nights a local or specialty offering available on top of regular menus. All desserts and home baked breads delicious. Service was tops. Bar, room, cabin, butlers, restaurants.... always a smile and a greeting, day after day... a happy and delightful team working connected by pride in their work. SUPERB Entertainment good, stand outs : the Bellissimo Quartet with classical strings, then did a wild rock show on strings too!! Cruise director, John E. With his own hilarious show, also extra crew shows such as Beat the Chef , party undet the stars in Seychelles. Clever, fun and innovative fresh ideas. Great team No more to say... back with Nautica, next we go! Read Less

Took easiest and most comfortable way to meet Oceania Nautica in Cape Town. Excellent port calls. Better than flying. 5* Art Deco furnishings. 3* service. Staff does not smile and does not greet guests unless guest talks first. Service seemed to be a burden on crew. Our cabin steward was the exception. Smaller than Phone booth size showers drove many to use showers in the fitness center. Balcony ok for two. Glass and rails were cleaned twice. Entertainment and lecture series outstanding. Am now on Oceania Nautica where food quality and presentation are far superior. The Brits seemed to like and praise the food but we could not. Stewards pushed guests aside with service carts in the buffet line. They had no other path to transport clean or used tableware. Paper napkins in the buffet at night are not in step with the smart dress code requested. Maybe the Queen is intended as transportation rather than cruising. It does that well at 22+ knots. Read Less

Trying to find the perfect gift is always daunting, luckily i decided to gift my husband a cruise with the Msc Musica, Upon Arrival at the harbour, There was a que to get into check in and to leave your luggage, each step was even more exciting as its just one step closer to boarding, When we reached check in and all was in order my two kids, husband and i literally ran to the boarding area, We stopped quickly at the refreshments area to grab a drink and off we were ( this was so though full after waiting in the ques, a thirst quench was just what we needed) The music and the friendly staff outside just set the mood, Finally we arrived inside the ship, our passports was taken and immediately we were sent upstairs to get a wrisk band for my 7 year old, so basically this as to be worn by the child throughout the cruise, as it makes it easy to locate which cabin the child is,incase they get lost. As we explored we bought our drinks package and went on the 13th deck for our buffet lunch, this was my favourite spot throughout the cruise haha hence the weight gain, everything was perfectly set up, different types of food, bread rolls, salads, dessert, tea coffee and water is always served. We sat at a table and indulged in our scrumptious lunch btw the buffet is open 20 hours, breakfast lunch and supper, And the pizzas is thee best tasting pizzas ever, Everything is always in order as soon as u done eating theres always someone to clear up ur table. Making it easier for the next person to come in, After eating we went to our cabin to change up and went on deck to do the drill, Finally we set sail, the experience of just leaving was absolutely amazing. Everyone was filled with excitement. We had abit of a confusion with our cabin and illena from reception was the absolutely best, so friendly and she even sent up a bottle of champagne and some yummy snacks for my husband on his birthday. Theres so much to do on the ship but we mainly hung out on the deck as the kids wanted to be in the pool, there is a kiddies and teens club aswell, my 7 year old loved it and still talks about his teachers, they provide activities the entire day for the kids and believe me its so safe. They even take the kids for dinner and it's so exciting for the kiddies, Again the level of quality and security is absolutely amazing these ladies and gents are so patient and caring with the kids, Everything is always in a order, at 8pm every night we were allocated a restaurant which we could dine in, the food is absolutely amazing and our waiter was so friendly and welcoming, the manager if this restaurant was extremely rude and to be honest he was the only bad experience throughout our cruise, The shopping is a must, my husband bought me the most beautiful jewellery and the 4.5 liter drinks is absolutely well worth it, Island day: Day of island was amazing such beautiful experience, u have to get a ticket on board which will tell u what boat number u are, u go to the 4th floor and a boat awaits u, nothing to be scared about again everything is always in order and safe, when we arrived at the island the blue waters and music and views was just breathtaking. There's alot of locals selling stuff so carry some cash, it was extremely hot so we went straight to the buffet, freshly caught grilled fish and the delicious water melons and mangoes was my favourite, A dj and also a live band makes u feel so blessed just to experience this.We spent the day in the water and then finally decided to leave early as we didn't want to wait long with the kids, The boats started loading up and we finally entered the ship again, As we entered there was a gentleman handing us an ice face clothe again very well thought of as coming out from the heat, this ice cloth was a bit of heaven for us, Back to sail and after refreshing up we went on board for some activities. What amazed me was everything was always in order, the staff are all very hard working, A few are abit rude but majority are so welcoming, oh please be careful when buying drinks on the deck, if u not using ur drinks package, we paid 45 dollars for two jack Daniels and two cans of coke, yet at the bar across is was 5 dollars. So always ask the price before you purchase. The theater the night before we left was absolutely amazing we got to see the captain break some moves, so friendly so creative and overall it was definitely the best experience ooooh i forgot to mention i felt sea sick for two nights so make sure u take something and they also provide some tabs at the reception area. Would i recommended this cruise? I will be off my head not too, A lifetime experience, My Kids are still talking about it and my husband says he doesn't no how to top this for my birthday hahahah. Overall I'll be back again Read Less

We picked this cruise because of the Ports of call, We had 3 days of in Durban before joining the ship. The first port was Reunion followed by Mauritius, Seychelles,Jordan, 2 days thru the Suez canal, On to Greece, Kotor, Split, Ending in Venice. As you can see the ports are the reason we booked the cruise. After reading lots of reviews about MSC, which WHERE NOT ALWAYS GREAT, We decided to book any way. The ship, 2.300 passengers, Not as big as we normally sail on, But big enough. Food,Very poor,In the main Dining room, Very small portions, A rack of Lamb was 2 VERY small chops, 6nights on the run we had the same soup with a different name, Red Pepper which was Yellow ? All based on potato soup. The service was very slow, This was not the fault of the staff waiting on, but the time it took the kitchen staff to serve the food. Twice we decided to eat in the Buffet in the evening, Only 2 mains where available, One was a meat stew, the meat was 75% fat, Unable to eat any of it,The other MAIN was a HOTDOG . If you dont fancy any thing on the Menu we where told there is always a CURRY available, We tried it a few nights, On the last night before Venice, My wife plus an other lady and my self Decided to have the LAMB curry, When it arrived there was no meat only 4/5/ lumps of bone, I asked the MD where is the Lamb, He tried to make a joke of it and said Its not Lamb curry, Its Bone curry, He took it back to the kitchen, I am still waiting for an answer, But we have been home 4 days. You are told that if you want water with you meal, You can buy bottled water at $3 a bottle, Which we did. Until after around 2 weeks in the the cruise, When one Lady on out table asked to see the catering manager due to the number of complaints we had made. We where then informed that you DONT have to buy water, You just ask for a glass of water and you can have as much as you like FREE. Entertainment, All a bit hit and miss, The best show was from the staff, Fantastic. Ports of call, Can not fault any off them, All of them where first class, There was one port which gave concern, Kotor. Kotor is a Fantastic place and this has nothing to do with the port, But it took us 45 mins to get of the ship due to the Angle of the gangway, It was so steep, When asking some of the ships Officers why it was used like that, They told me that they did not know about the tide when the ship docked?. Cruise ships are booked 18/24 months in advance, If they did not know about the water levels when the ship is due, Some one is in the wrong job.As some one who has worked on Cruise terminals for a number of years, THAT gang way would not have been used in THE uk. 4 Days out of Durban . I had been Drinking S.A.Cider, Which was very good, On the 5th day they ran out of it, 5days after leaving port, 3 days before we reached Venice they ran out of Tonic Water, That was the end of the G/T. Think what you like of this review, But this is how it turned out, We have an other cruise booked with MSC NEXT YEAR, But that was booked before we took this one, We have only paided £100 deposit each, Which may be worth loosing. I knew she was going to enjoy herself for this was my second cruise. She still can't close her mouth. Her highlight was the food and the hospitality. The best treatment ever. The stuff made it really special. I'm so glad I chose taking her on a cruise for her birthday.I'll go on a cruise anytime of the day. Anytime is cruise time. Everyone needs to go on this cruise...I can go on and on and on about this cruise.I love you guys, keep up the good job. I'm definatly taking my brothers on the next cruise which has to be very soon. and obviously my future husband has to go with me again,I mean everyone in my life have to know about this cruise,I know it's sounds funny. Experience value for money. Oh the dance ,what an entertainment. I dance my lung out.I had too much fun.The best place for socializing, good time I had wow. We also enjoyed Portugues Island, best weather ever. My mum had the best time ever. She swam literally the whole day.She was just having fun.Even when we got there, the service was still on point. I'm just all over the moon about this cruise. what a smooth embarking and disembarking on this.fast moving lines well controlled, took the best pictures in the process. We were not happy with this cruise. We have cruised dozens of times, but this was the first and last on Cunard. They cater to a group of loyal Cunard passengers, and do nothing for anyone else. The pro's: The cabin was nice. For the most part, the entertainment was very good. The embarkation was excellent. We received excellent service from our cabin steward and the Britannia Restaurant staff. The con's: Ship is very dull looking inside. Food left a lot to be desired, low quality. There was a very limited menu in the dining room and in the buffet. The dress codes weren't being followed, and no one did anything about it. Many of the passengers were very pushy. Lecturers were boring, with uninteresting subjects. Port lecturer gave inaccurate information. Shops on board were limited and were overpriced. No real sales on board. The casino was very small, although I must admit, it was usually empty. The ship has a sliding covered pool. On the windiest day, it was left uncovered, WHY??Had it been closed, people could have enjoyed the pool area. Cunard really needs some help from Princess, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean. Upon boarding, we noticed some items that needed to be addressed, such as dripping water in bathroom, only hot water in shower, cooler/'refrigerator that didn't work, and the safe did not work. The safe and the cooler were taken care of soon, but the others were left until the last day of the cruise. Some of the ports, such as Mauritius, and Reunion were worthless. Port Elizabeth was a good port with good tours. We went to Addo Elephant Park and found it wonderful. Prior to boarding the ship, we took a Safari in Kruger National Park, which made the trip worthwhile. Without that and Addo, this trip would have been a total waste of time. We would go to So. Africa again, but not with Cunard. Read Less

destination good but wouldn't recommend this as ship needs to be replaced by o old. The whole experience of this cruise was as if I had been in an old people's home. The entertainment was geared for this and so we're the activities. The destination was appealing but to be given a port that was a coal mining destination Port Richard and get covered in dust isn't my idea of interesting port even captain agreed and told us he had notified the company of this. Must have been a cheap port to go to. The overall staff really very good and helpful, food good, cabins not up to today standards. Entertainment needs to be updated though an older crowd they need to realise we are not one foot in the grave. Lovely table but also of the same opinion. Perference given to people who book Fred Olsen direct. Independence passages required to desembark no later than 10.00 a.m. But Fred Olsen passengers were allowed to stay on board as long as necessary before their flight departure. We had a nice vacation planned, fly from Germany to Capetown, spend a few days there and then go on a short cruise to Durban to meet our guide there for a Safaritour. Well, the first and third part worked out well, but the cruise,,, The itinerary said embarkation starts at 12:30, so we decided to get there at around two pm in the hope of avoiding the biggest rush. When we got to the cruiseterminal, there were still people coming off the ship, so naturally embarkation hadn´t even started. There were already long lines out in the rather hot sun because the terminal is much too small to handle a "regular size" cruiseship. Some of those waiting in line didn´t make it on board before six pm. We were lucky, because we had priority embarkation through our having gained "black" status via the statustransfer-program MSC is running currently (we are Elite Plus at Celebrity Cruises). Even so we had to wait one and a half hours, before we got on board. I think Capetown Harbor and MSC are about equally to blame for this. Like I said, the Terminal is very small and there were only three or four counters( of a possible ten or twelve) open when embarkation finally began. Then ther was the rather stupid setup by MSC having the commercial photos (those you can later buy) taken right after the security check and the onboard photos taken one by one after entering the ship single file on two gangways. It would make more sense taking the necessary photos right after the security check and position the voluntary photos somewhere later. Well, when we finally had made it on board, the fun really started. At MSC the cabins are supposed to be open and you find your roomcard inside. Naturally our cabin was locked and it took another half hour until somebody came to open it for us The cabin itself was very nice, only the sofa is looking very old, but overall the cabin is nice and roomy. It even has a walkable closet. After some exploring in the cabin, we discovered that the safe was locked, so another trip to the reception and more time waiting in the cabin instead of exploring the ship. The ship was supposed to get on its way to Durban at six pm, but by then there were still people embarking and the first announcements were made that " due to the strong winds" our departure would be delayed by several hours. We spent a nice evening on board after a rather ho-hum dinner with several beer buckets (remember we´re Germans) and went to bed. Next morning we´re still in Capetown and the first lttle panic sets in with our companions if we can make it to Durban in timeto meet our guide. All morning announcements are made that we are still a little delayed due to the strong winds, although on the ship´s tv the winds are shown at 21 knots, which doesn´t seem too extraordinary- If a cruiseship can´t handle 20 knot winds, they might as well beach it somewhere or make it a hotelship in some port... By noon the reception had just reassured us, that we would still reach Durban on monday, when the announcement came that MSC couldn´t guarantee the hour or even the date of the arrival in Durban and everybody who wished to disembark could now do so. The process involved another long wait in line and in the early afternoon our shortest cruise ever thankfully ended... Read Less

The itinerary from Dubai to Capetown along with an opportunity for the excursions to Taj Mal and a safari in Africa was unique, The food on this ship was of an exceptional, quality, service and restaurants, were without a match with any other cruise ships that we have sailed on and this is no exaggeration. Although, not a reflection on the ship’s crew or staff, there were excursion experiences that did not measure up to our expectation. We would suggest that the cruise line staff place more attention on the planning and quality of the excursions to ensure they reflect the passenger expectations of a luxury cruise. Overall experiences on this vacation cruise, including add on three day excursions before and after the actual 30 day cruise were with a few exceptions first class. While there are probably parts of this itinerary we would not repeat, certainly there are others we would very much like to visit again. Read Less

There were a lot of entertainment and activities to enjoy throughout the day and night. As well as the security checks and safety drill that was done. So there were really no dull moment on the cruise. The Port and shore excursions was done smoothly and fast, it proceeded with efficient flow and in a speedy manner. Sailing with MSC is always enjoyable. There is so much to do that the one week cruise is too short. The spa (for massages or other special treats) as well as the hair salon on board are exceptional. The food is out of this world and prepared with care and enjoyed by everyone. The entertainment in the theatre and lounges were very good and they ensure that there is something for every taste - from singers to jokesters. The gym and sauna were very enjoyable. Sunny days at the pools and jacuzzi with a exotic cocktail or ice cream - what more can you ask for! I can rave about everything but its is better to experience it for yourself - you will not be sorry. We did a "behind the scene" tour where we were taken through parts of the ship - what an experience! I have become addicted to MSC and have to work in at least one cruise per season. We chose this cruise because we wanted to go to South Africa and the thought of going through the Suez Canal appealed to us enormously. We enjoyed the classical music concerts and the documentaries especially. We were pleased to discover the quietness of the Pasha Lounge during the day where we could read, do crossword puzzles, etc. We enjoyed the excursions in Crete, Eilat, Mauritius and Reunion especially. Our cabin was very comfortable and was kept immaculate by our most excellent cabin attendant, Patrick. We enjoyed our breakfasts in the upstairs buffet, and our dinner in the Il Galleone dining room. Our waiter in the Il Galleone was delightfully friendly and efficient. We enjoyed our pre-dinner cocktails in the Buddha Bar, where thought the guitarist very good, and our after-dinner coffee in the Coffee Bar with its excellent pianist. All in all, it was a most relaxing holiday, and we received excellent service from all MSC staff. Read Less

Firstly the itinerary was excellent - including Suez Canal, Dead Sea, Seychelles, Mauritius and the highlight for me Petra, however Seychelles and Mauritius were marred by engine trouble which left only a few hours in each port, such a long way to go for such a short time. We found the excursion prices quite reasonable (may be other writers' have not been on Cunard and seen their prices). We always use the cruise excursions for the security of if we are late back its MSC's problem, not ours. On a couple of occasions the ship was late sailing due to late returning passengers. Organisation of the disembarkation for excursions was hap hazard, there was even talk of scuffles between passengers where not enough transport was available in Seychelles. The food on the ship was at best poor both in quality and presentation. There was only one meal where we thought 'wow this is good' other than that it was no where near our expectations for an Italian ship. MSC chefs must be trained in how to make high sugar content deserts so bland, even the tiny portions of jelly had colour but no flavour. Mice would have died of starvation if they had to live off the pathetic portions provided on the cheese board at the evening meal! Service was variable, many of the staff needed more training in their duties. Cabin service was good. We had one of the smaller cabins which had a balcony. Not overly generous in space but adequate. There was always a substantial queue at the Guest Services so there were many unhappy customers. I heard plenty of people with issues such as wrong bed layout, fittings not working and one very, very, angry American but in the most the complaints seemed to fall on deaf ears at the Customer Service. We took advantage of the Internet and laundry packages available to book before the cruise - warning these are not available within 4 days(?) of departure or on the ship itself. Internet was barely usable at times, even near populated areas. The guest speakers were the worst we have ever experienced though the Cruise Director Stephen was by far the best Director on any cruise we have been on. His lectures on how scams worked were an eye opener. Moring Bridge lessons for beginners were very good. Boarding at Venice would have been a joke if it were not so serious, we arrived at the terminal (long walk from water taxi) at about 12:30 and were left in an overcrowded, hot, terminal building and only got on board towards 17:00. By the time we dropped our bags and freshened up we missed the first sitting and the staff were exceptionally unsympathetic to our plight. No explanations or apologies were offered. In summary it would take a lot to persuade us to travel with MSC again. Read Less

Let me first state that I did not like awarding the scores set forth below. My wife and I had hoped for a far better experience. This was our first Seabourn cruise; the most recent ones before were on Oceania and Regent Seven Seas, respectively. Our cruise started in Singapore and ended in Dubai. Some elements of the Encore were lovely. The overall décor was most attractive, and the Seabourn Square set up was a delight. For the most part, our Verandah V5 cabin was well thought out (the closet could use some reconfiguration -- raising the hanging poles and sacrificing a bit of the shelf space above). It was impossible, however, to regulate the temperature in our cabin at a stable degree; at night, especially, the air conditioning, unlike the day, was ineffective -- with the room being so warm we discarded our covers. Our stewardess was absolutely terrific, and the other members of the non-food service crew were personable. So what wasn't so great? Primarily, it was the food -- especially in comparison to both the Oceania Marina and the Regent Explorer ships. With the exception of the Thomas Keller restaurant (the second time, at least) no meal was delicious, and several of the meals were plain disappointing. Bread was consistently substandard, as were most of the pastries. Beef was not as good as the lamb; chicken was overcooked. Fish, however, was well-prepared. The Restaurant's cuisine was not generally as good as the Colonnade's. Service in the Restaurant at dinner was really bad. Twice (once dining alone and a second time with another couple), we had to skip dessert to make the 8:45 pm show; in each instance we were seated at 6:45 p.m. That is inexcusable. Service in the Colonnade was, conversely, quite good at both breakfast and dinner. Daniel and Megan deserve special mention for their performance. As for Thomas Keller, the steaks the first time were terribly over-salted, and not just our table. The people next to us had the same complaint. The captain actually tried my wife's and readily agreed, and the manager subsequently invited us to dine in his restaurant again, promising a far better experience the next time -- which it was. The sushi restaurant was fine, with the lead server a true delight. The food was okay. It is impossible to see the chefs at work due to the configuration of the counter; its front should be all glass and the display of fish lowered so that the preparations can be viewed by diners, especially those sitting around where the chefs were working. We found the entertainment mixed. Wayne (the comedian on the cruise) was truly entertaining; on the other hand we thought the Tim Rice show to be a disappointment -- less due to the singers and more due to the choice of songs performed. The rest (we attended several) were so-so. The lecturers were distinguished. We would have preferred slightly more sophisticated talks -- and with more emphasis on the current states of the countries visited and less on their histories. We took several tours. The most disappointing to us was in Muscat, where we were left for 90 minutes at a mediocre, touristy souk and had only 15 minutes, in contrast, at a wonderful museum. The rest were okay, if over promised. Read Less

Destinations looked interesting However it was quicker flying from Gatwick to Venice than getting on this cruise with five different queues. Lets try Dinner - Over 1.5 hours to serve and that will be nearly 3 Euros for a bottle of water with your dinner and help yourself to ice. Lets try breakfast - cereals the packaging would taste better even with milk White toast because they will not turn up the toaster. On complaining I am told by the Maitre D lots of people like white toast. NO you cannot have poached egg in the buffet either because if they gave you poached egg some 150-200 other customers might want it!! After going through the toaster three times you could probably have sanded the deck with it. My wife ran a B and B for 22 years and NO one asked for white toast. Lets try Afternoon tea with Bulk jam and synthetic cream or carrot cake mix. Lets try The PARADISE Hamburger bar. Really catering knowledge here. Cook all the burgers in the morning and then microwave them for 30 seconds throughout the day. Cook the chips and then put them out in trays in the cold. Guess what cold chips. I did offer to assist the (Food and Beverage???) manager to change this as I have set up and owned a Burger Bar but this was ignored. You may think that people that have gone to PARADISE, even though it is a burger bar, would be happy, NO they are not. Ice cream, -Extra cost. Lets go to the theatre, - Some bright spark has come up with an idea to increase the seating, BUT because they are on the same level, the people behind can no longer see. Lets go to the library,- Sorry only eight English books available. Lets go on, no cannot be bothered That is why I called it the MARMITE Shipping Co (MSC) because you either loved it or hated it. WE hated it and will never go on MSC again.. The ironic thing is they send you a questionnaire to fill in and by doing so you may win a cruise. If we win watch E-bay Read Less

We are black card club members so we know what to expect from MSC. Our cabin was an Aurea Suite. Fabulous suite, walk in wardrobe, bath/shower, robes and slippers. As we were black card we got a welcome treat of Wine, fruit and chocolate dipped strawberries. Our cabin steward was extremely efficient and made sure we had anything we needed. The buffet restaurant was typical of other ships but the food was fine and a very good variety. Anyone having afternoon tea would have been delighted with the variety of cakes and puddings. Aurea Suite passengers were invited to use the free dining in the Il Covo restaurant. We were very fortunate to share our table with another couple with whom we got along really well. The food was varied and the soups served were excellent. We even pointed this out to the head waiter, apparently the management had noticed the talents of the soup chef. On one trip we actually met the soup chef and he was delighted at the praise we gave. The menu was themed each night, Mexican, Italian etc.as well as the old favourites, of chicken, chips etc. There was always something on the menu to satisfy even the most picky eaters. Our waiters, Muhsin and Wayan Edt were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and they shared our sense of humour. The Il Covo is certainly quieter than the larger restaurants. In addition we had use of the Aurea Spa and the Aurea deck with more comfortable furnishing. There was a small bar and at certain times guests were served with fresh fruit kebabs - lovely. I understand that the theatre entertainment was of a very high standard. There was daytime entertainment for every age group. Fitness sessions, card/board games, quizzes and a multi-faith church service on Sundays. Embarkation was not good, there were 4 or 5 other ships in that day and we must have drawn the worst berth. There was a lack of ships crew to assist. We have not experienced this before with MSC. I found the public rooms to be far nicer than the cruise we took with a different line last year. The only problem we had, was NOT with MSC but with the booking agent. Like many other passengers we had so many problems. When we booked we were returning to the UK from Cape Town, the invoice was marked TBA, never in a million years did we expect to be told that our flight would be from Cape Town to Dubai, wait at Dubai, Dubai to Heathrow. Since we had got to Cape town via a flight from Durban this meant we were virtually going back the way we came. I had recently had a minor health problem and just couldn't face that palaver so we paid £574 extra to fly direct to Heathrow. There were problems with transfers which were included not materialising which cost us extra. Praise, however, goes to Illios Travel in South Africa, they were great. Read Less

Got on the ship, bit slow boarding. They have stretched the ship and fitted another 200 cabins. We had a new cabin (9105). Very tidy, but a bit small. Adequate, but not as good as the last time on this ship. Had requested fixed early dining on a large table to meet other people. Because we had a balcony cabin, we were allocated to the “best ??” dining room on any time dining. Try as I could, I wasn’t able to change it. We ended up on a table for 4, sat by ourselves most of the time, not what we had wanted, WE WANTED TO MEET OTHER PEOPLE The layout of the second dining room is terrible. People walking through whilst others are dining. Who planned the ships extension, a bet it wasn’t a marine architect or someone who went cruising. The food was reasonable, but could have been far better. As with all the cruises, they are cutting corners, but on this cruise they had cut them a bit too much. Most of the food was good, but they managed to make a mess of some of it. One example was scrambled egg, mixed tinned tomatoes with it? Surely, it would have been better to present them separately. They ran out of Instant coffee, tea bags and bananas after 16 days and butter on the last two days. This ship has been doing this cruise for a few years now. Provisions manager wants a squib up his rear end if he can’t get it right. One day my fish at the buffet was raw in the middle. I drew the attention of the buffet manager, who fobbed me off by saying, - that’s the colour inside sir – I didn’t want compensation, just to have him point out to the kitchen that something was not right. Why put coconut on everything. Had they loaded too much? Never saw the Captain about the ship or heard him on the PA. No announcements at noon as to position, weather etc. In fact the big problem overall on the ship was lack of communication. We didn’t mind the multi language announcements, that all adds to the flavour, but for example, no info about where the ship was docking at each stop in relation to a town. Shuttles etc. Sometimes there was something on the daily news sheet, but generally you had to call reception to find out. I don’t want it like Carnival cruises, blaring out at all times of day like a holiday camp, but a little information would be great. Excellent talks from a retired commander of the Royal Protection Squad and a South African Doctor. The Cruise Director was Superb, best we have ever experienced. Who organised the ship to berth in Seychelles on a Sunday. The place was closed, I mean closed. Not even a cafe to get a cup of coffee. People were back on the ship before lunch. A little better planning, a slower passage to Seychelles (Save fuel!!). Berth Monday. 2000 people spend money on the island. One day at Mauritius was long enough. Mauritius is nice, but one day was sufficient. Disembarkation in Durban was atrocious. I know that MSC cannot control Immigration, but surely they can lean on SA to get their act together. Not like that at Cape Town. Got a quote for the cruise from SA to Italy May 2018 whilst on board. Four times the costs of this years cruise. Questioned it. Reduced by 15%. Got home, almost £1000 cheaper per person on line. Come on MSC, we like you, but all in all, you are not encouraging us to cruise with you again. Read Less
