I thought it was going to be a luxury cruise, but it was the worst cruise experience I've had in about 30 cruises. We chose this cruise based on itinerary, since we wanted to visit several islands.
I had read rave reviews of the food, but that’s so subjective I didn’t have real expectations. The food was very inconsistent; great in day and not so great the next. The fish was awful - other than the tuna, I found bones in EVERY fish dish I ordered.

Embarkation and disembarkation was relatively smooth. Don’t expect much hospitality. Employees are not excited about their jobs so don’t expect many smiles either. We spent much extra to stay in a (PHS) Penthouse Suite and was advertised our own personal Butler, (which was shared by many other suites so personalized is the farthest from the truth.) This is cruise 18 with Oceania on all ships but Serena. I am not sure if i have been unlucky but the service level was less than “normal”. The ship broke down after leaving Honolulu, had to be towed by tugs back to port. Stuck in Honolulu for three days. Missed 40% of ports of call on the San Diego to Papeete Cruise. We chose this ship because of the itinerary and small number of passengers.
The staff, the dining, the communication during the trip, the cabin ( bed and linen) were all excellent. The shore excursions offered by the cruise line are expensive and if you are prepared to investigate tours yourself or walk down to the dock and take a chance on a tour, then they are at least 30% cheaper.

This was our 7th Oceania cruise and 5th time on the Regatta. It was quite wonderful, as always and most of the ports were interesting.
The entertainment seems better now that NCL has taken over and the service is what we have come to expect with Oceania. We always take a taxi from the airport to the ship, as it is much less expensive.
