No longer welcoming for solo travellers
"I have ended up being put on a table for two with a total stranger or being put on a group table with - you guessed it - 3 couples and one solo.Whenever I was lucky enough to get fixed dining I was always put on a table with 3 couples and one solo...."Read More

No longer welcoming for solo travellers

Review for a Europe - British Isles & Western Cruise on Queen Victoria

Since my husband passed away, I have travelled on 6 Cunard cruises as a solo passenger. Since COVID the first thing that you notice is the lack of staff which makes things awkward for solos. On the first evening there used to be a solo travellers get together where the Social Host/Hostess and Dance Hosts would make you feel welcome (with a glass of bubbly) and get you talking to other solo ...

Lovely ship/poor quality food

We chose this ship because it was recommended by a friend. The ship is a good size ship and we expected Cunard to be of a high standard. Cabin - good size.good size balcony. excellent housekeeping. Buffet - good selection at breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was hit and miss as to whether the hot food was hot, tepid or cold. Bread - cheap supermarket bread which I would not consider ...

Loved the ship. The interior was beautiful. The meals in the Brittania restaurant were very good and our waiter was cheerful and helpful. Not too impressed with the entertainment.although the Harpist and string trio were very good. Embarkation was a fiasco and disembarkation wasn't much better .StateRoom and table for dining not assigned when we boarded the ship. Don't bother with the ...

My wife and I choose this cruise to celebrate our 27th anniversary just the 2 of us, and to visit Venice the first time; this ship docked overnight in Venice which is perfect to see this amazing city. We searched many cruise ships, and choose this one due to the brand name "Cunard" for luxury cruises. We found out to be over exaggerated. First the cabin is not comfortable due to the air ...

Not the luxury expected

This was only our second cruise and we picked it because we wanted to experience the "luxury" of Cunard. We were aware that the clientele would be older and were OK with that. Embarkation in Venice was somewhat chaotic and very slow, there was not a big crowd, but it took a long time to get through the process, not really great in this automated day and age. First impressions of the ship ...

We spent 7 days on a cruise on Queen Vic. From Venice to Athens. I knew it was not ther cruise for me when i noticed on the daily activity “Chair aerobics”. Excellent food, excellent staff service and operasrting BUT! Bars mostly empty due to high cost of drinks-but the pub was full every days wplaying darts and cards and trivia. Ballroom dancing each night most popular b it you would not want to ...

This was the 14 night cruise, Venice to Rome. This was our third cruise on this ship and fourth with Cunard so we know the standards that CAN be achieved. (Most recent previous experience was in March this year - Auckland NZ to Wellington NZ via Australia - part of the world cruise. On that occasion the poor standard of food in the Britannia restaurant caused us to look seriously at abandoning ...

Cunard could do much better

Having cruised many times with Princess Cruises, we decided to try Cunard's Queen Victoria because the itinerary included Dubrovnik, Montenegro and overnight in Venice. The ship had just undergone a £34 million refit in May and looked splendid, especially the Queens Room, Garden Room and theatre. That said, the new Grand suites and the additions like the Britannia Club restaurant are of no benefit ...

Have traveled on other cruise lines and for what we were paying - I had expected more. The embarkation was a mess. The ship was at Terminal C at Athens, where we got dropped but we then had to walk over to Terminal B to actually check in (not a short walk). Instructions and signs poor. Ship - good, cabin - clean although steward had to be asked to replace shampoo etc when we run out! Food ...

We booked last minute, suite 7044 in Queens grill. Some aspects of cruise were excellent. The suite was a good size with large balcony and new balcony furniture. The much hyped refit did not include cabin furniture, our coffee table was damaged on the edge for instance and clearly not new. Just a detail. We had a very nice cabin steward (butler). The in suite fridge and free bottle of Bells ...
