This was our fourth cruise with ACL and one of the best so far. It's hard to select my favorite place during the cruise because there are so many 'favorites'. We love the 'small boat' cruise experience and this particular cruise is packed with excellent ports of call. The onboard entertainment was quite good as well. This particular ship is NOT stabilized but, that was not a problem for us. We have already signed up for another ACL cruise. Read Less

First time cruising of any type. Picked a small ship since we didn't want to be over whelmed with people. Mostly had a great time. Met some great fellow cruisers, and some excellent dedicated staff. Cabin steward/wait-staff were great. Didn't mind having to come back to clean the room when we slept in, very well informed about the food, which was excellent throughout the trip. Due o our mobility issues (not wheelchair) we couldn't disembark at Oak Alley. Had a minor scare at Baton Rouge hen my wife fell and skinned her knee. Crew and staff, from the captain on down, very responsive and offered to provide medical attention, which we declined. An icepack and rest fixed the problem. No problems after that, but disembarking/re-embarking at the remaining ports was a little difficult, primarily due to the levies on the Mississippi River. Dining is single seating which is great!. Met different people each meal. Tried to explain the American election system, and American gun laws to people from Australia and New Zealand. Didn't succeed, but it was fun. Recommend the trip to anyone wanting s leisurely trip, doing just what you want to. We are cruising with ACL again, but a different voyage. Read Less

We stayed at a hotel near the port in Memphis. The check-in process was smooth. The boat was in good condition and traveled on the river very well. Spending time on our balcony while going down the river was pleasant. The shore excursions were very interesting and enjoyable The internet connection was slow, when available The meals were better on some days than others, but the one consistent thing was the food was served cold most of the time. Talking to the Kitchen Staff along with Management did not make a difference - their attitude was "you do not matter and take the meals as is". The Staff turned distant and aloof after our comments and complaints, making this cruise disappointing. Entertainment on the boat is nonexistent We enjoyed the time off the boat visiting the small cities This cruise is very expensive and did not live up to expectations Read Less

Tours were interesting, food was top quality, kept up to date on a daily basis for tours, activities on and off the boat. Looking forward to another trip. Overall we had a wonderful time. Accommodations were great, food was plentiful, flavorful, good choices and very good. Tours, for the most part were excellent. As with everything, a couple could have been better, but overall very good. Entertainment on board was adequate. Banjo player Dan Knowles was excellent! With seven days of tours and entertainment, you will always like some better then others. Doesn't mean that they weren't good, just different tastes for different folks. What we may have thought was just okay, others thought was excellent. Daily choices for tours were great. Something for everyone and they kept you busy every day. Staff members were always cheerful, accommodating and efficient. With the smaller size ship (about 150 people), you never had to wait for anything and got to meet a great deal of the folks on board. We totally enjoyed sitting with different people at dinner and sometimes were able to seek out people that we had enjoyed other nights. All tours were very well organized and we never felt rushed or had to wait for anything. We totally enjoyed ourselves and even signed up for another cruise while on board. Would highly recommend this cruise. The Mississippi River is awesome. Take an extra day at either end to explore both New Orleans and Memphis like we did as they both have a lot to offer and are fun cities. Forgot to mention that the majority of the passengers are the over 60 crowd. Read Less

This was a trip that we had planned for many years. We were a group of 6 and each of us were very excited. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. I wish we had seen some of the posted reviews prior to booking. This cruise is indeed pricey and not worth the cost. The staff were all very inexperienced however, their improvement during the course of the trip was really remarkable. However, We did not sign up for a teaching experience. If this is the case it should be reflected in the price with a reduction. We found out that the experienced staff was on the newly launched boat and the Mississippi Queen got the short end. NOT fair. Another issue we had was the matter of seating in the dining room. We were told it was open seating but there was reserved signs on at least 4 tables. We were upset and spoke with the cruise director who told us that there was a large group and the smaller groups he was told to give them reservation seating and this came from corporate. Wake up corporate, treat all your paying customers equally. Either offer reserved seating or open seating. We had to scramble into the dining room 3 times a day to ensure we would sit together. On the plus side the food we had was great. Read Less

This was our first time on this cruise line and we had a most wonderful time. The staff couldn't do enough for you. We were celebrating our anniversary and were treated to a special wine and just over all great service. The rooms are clean altho a bit dated but there was no real problem. The main lounge needs a bit of update and the boat needs some painting update but the balconys were painted and fine. The cruise was a bit more costly than ocean cruised we have been on, however, if you were to break down the charges for tips, drinks and extras on ocean cruises I believe the costs would be very close. The food was outstanding. We never had a bad meal, and choices were very good. It would have been nice to have a quieter dining room but with 150 people that is difficult. Over all, things were excellent and we really enjoyed the cruise and are glad we went. Read Less

I truly enjoyed my week on the Mississippi River. I learned a lot, enjoyed all the tours and loved the small boat where all passengers ate at one time in one dining room. The staff was truly enjoyable as they went out of their way to be helpful and courteous. The staff really kicked in to assist those that were not as mobile. It was very relaxing to be on a small boat and truly get to visit with people from across the country. Read Less

This was our third voyage with American Cruise Lines and, once again, we were delighted. Neither the cold or rain could lessen the crews enthusiasm to make this another great cruise. The galley prepared fine food for the duration of the cruise, not just at the beginning and end. They were also very accommodating in meeting off menu requests for individual passengers. And it's always wonderful to develop new relationships with the staff and other passengers across the table. Afternoon Happy Hours provided another excellent means to meet and enjoy others on the cruise. We can not praise Captain Kenny enough. Going beyond our expectations, he participated in the evenings entertainment and was clearly respected and liked by the various entertainers. His on deck lectures were highlighted by visuals of eddys and other river items. The cabin was large and the balcony added to the pleasure. Vicksburg, Frogmore, Baton Rouge stand out as best stops on the cruise. Read Less

" Small cruising done perfectly " truly describes the experience. The staff are well trained, polite and very accommodating. Food and drinks were outstanding. Entertainment and "Toots" enhanced the overall experience. That is why we hope to go again and again. [Our stateroom was] Spacious, elegant, plenty of drawer/closet space. We did have a severe leak on the floor. We told someone when we arrived but I guess it was a very hectic time and no one came to check for a couple of days. I think one of the stewards reported it again. By that time the rug was saturated and some clothes got soaked. However, once discovered the crew worked to discover the source of the leak. It did take a couple of trys but was resolved. The crew did a good job in tracking down the problem. The room was musty but did dry out in time for the next cruise. The coordination of events and organization of the cruise demonstrates a well thought out plan that takes training, experience, and skill. There was one steward who went "above and beyond" for me. His name is Salvadore S/. I will be writing a letter on my experience under separate cover as he deserves special recognition. Briefly, I have severe back pain and he watched over me the whole trip with compassion, humor, and efficiency. The dining room was a little noisy compared to the rest of the large rooms. Having several small areas/lounges allows opportunity for small group experience and personal time Overall a great excursion done in a quality way ! Thank you. Read Less
