Enjoyed our first Transatlantic Crossing
"We dined one night at the Steakhouse, and found it worth every penny.I felt the storage to be above average for a small cabin, and had no problem placing our things about in an organized manner...."Read More

This was my 5th on QM2 over the last 10 years. I've travelled QG once, PG 3 times and Brittania once. This trip was PG. I'm a spa relaxer type cruiser. The spa, now run by Morell was, frankly, filthy. the hydrotherapy oil crusting in dirt all around the perimeter. The showers dirty, foot baths and ice maker inoperable, main steam room dirty and Finnish Sauna unlit. I was literally shocked. I ...

Mostly good sailing with some decline in service

Below is a brief review of our sailing on Queen Mary 2, September 20-29, 2023, 9 nights, from Hamburg to Southampton and on to New York. This was part of a 5 week trip that began in Milan, Italy at the end of August, and included a 7 night sailing on the Azamara Onward from Rome to Venice. We were in an Interior cabin with a window overlooking the multi-story lobby. We had noticed these ...

QM2 Mixed review: Some deferred maintenance, poor food, but otherwise a delight

Having recently completed a seven-day transatlantic voyage aboard the Queen Mary 2, our first Cunard experience post-pandemic pause and just after a couple of recent cruises on Holland America Line and Celebrity X, and we felt it useful to share a quick review. Our oceanic résumé is not devoid of experience with Cunard; we first sailed on the QE2 back in the early 1970s in tourist class and have ...

By way of background, we are mid-60s with 35 cruises in 10.5 years. Celebrity is our benchmark. We had seen so many Vlogs about a Transatlantic voyage on the QM2 that, when a significant saving opportunity came up, we jumped on it. We booked an entry level Queen’s Grill Suite (Q5) and started to budget for it. The itinerary was NYC round trip with Norway and France added. Online check in ...

After three years of living in the Covid era and other disruptions, cancellations, etc. I was thrilled to board QM2 a few weeks ago in Southampton for my first transatlantic since 2018. Boarding seemed to go quite smoothly (though those without existing World Club perks seemed to have to wait quite a bit longer) and once on line we were on the ship within 30 minutes I guess. We didn't arrive ...

Bucket list item and worth doing, even with mediocre food and Covid

I had long wanted to do a transAtlantic crossing on one of the Queens. The opportunity came along this summer, when our daughter and her financé were crossing for the second time after a week cruising on the QM2 from Rome to Southhampton. We reserved a sheltered balcony room. After about 10 or 11 days in London and the Cotswolds, we did a private transfer from Stow to Southhampton, spending the ...

We took the QM2 from NYC to Southhampton and this was our return for which we did this review. First all potential passengers must accept that the July North Atlantic is subject to bad unpleasant weather. We could not go outside most days with limited visibility due to serious fog on other days. My wife was sea sick. If you are inclined to be sea sick fly across the ocean. We thought the ...

A Grill suite perspective

Eastbound transatlantic. Princess Grill The embarkation at Brooklyn cruise terminal was pretty awful . We were stuck in a hot shed for an hour with one loo , one water dispenser , no information and not enough seats . (And that was for Grill guests). And our bage took an agonising and disgraceful 4 1/2 hrs to arrive . No Grill suite priority? The ship itself lives up to expectation. The ...

This was a bucket list item and I don't regret it, but it didn't live up to the hype especially the food. Embarkartion was disorganised and we were confidently directed into the wrong waiting area. Our Queen's Grill cabin was fine (large enough and quiet with a large balcony) but the dining room was small, noisy and very crowded. The maitre d' was all smiles but unwilling to put himself out. ...

In the wake of the the Halifax medical emergency delay and the horrible experience for those embarking after our Crossing, here are some thoughts to focus solely on our just finished TA experience. Note it’s our first time in “Grills” - PG for our 30th anniversary. Also, we’re not , we just like the Cunard vibe. Princess Grill Experience: Cabin is certainly a nice upgrade with tons of ...
