I’ll keep this short as I find I stop reading if people write to much. In bullet point fashion. Embarkation: great Cabin steward: absolutely marvellous and they always are. Ship: a bit tired looking, could do with new carpets and paint etc. Staff: reception: awful. If a smile is all your after, that’s all you will get. They really are dreadful. Waiting staff: at breakfast they are miserable and slow even though we were all extremely polite and patient. The evening the attitude is slightly better. Other guests: Rude, arrogant and miserable. Honestly why come on holiday if your going to be like that. I’ve found this to be true on Victoria as well. I think this contributes to the mood of the staff. Food: very good. Kids club: great Pools: dirty (all of them) I went in with my son wearing goggles and wished I hadn’t! Perhaps I’ve gone on too much but really I don’t expect anything to change and if Your only interest is to tell people you’ve been on Cunard you’ll probably continue to put up with it. Holland America beats them hands down (I’m English btw). Enough droning as I’ve definitely gone on too long. Happy cruising Read Less

I stayed in an interior cabin on this recent cruise and found it to be just what I needed for a comfortable bed in the evening. Linens, pillows, comforter - all great. Cabin attendee was warm hearted and helpful with anything needed. Bathroom was starting to show its age, but great shower pressure, size and heat. Spa services were wonderful, took advantage of some of the discounts onboard during slower times and found the value to be good, especially considering you get use of the in-spa jacuzzi and pool. Ate in the main dining room twice out of the five nights and probably would reduce this number on the next cruise. Service was not nearly as good as specialty restaurants, though I had no issue with the food quality. Our waiter in the second seating was rude, always trying to rush and never in sight after the order was given. It also took a long time for the sommelier to get to our table, he clearly had his hands full and the two times we ate there he would arrive at our table around the time we were eating our appetizer. I don't fault the ship for this and give a 5 star review because this was easily solvable by eating at the specialty restaurants where all these issues were more than solved. The Veranda was wonderful (ate there twice) as was the rotating restaurant - we had Indian and it was great. Loved grabbing lunch at the golden lion pub in the afternoons. Pool decks were nice and public spaces in part because there were far less children on this boat than many other carriers. This kept things more organized. My wife and I are in our early 30's and felt well placed in the crowd. Overall a great experience and great value. Will be back and would like to try the princess grill on the next voyage. This was our second Transatlantic cruise on QM2. We love this ship as it’s a proper ocean liner. Having read some reviews, all I can say is don’t listen. We had a wonderful time and I fail to see any issue with this cruise. The cabin... smallish yes, but everything there. And it is a ship, so space obviously won’t be the same as in a hotel. We had a balcony and enjoyed the fresh sea air. The service... probably the strongest part for Cunard. Quiet, efficient, friendly without being pretentious. Our waiters Ganesh and Arnold were particularly good. Any wish was catered for and next time quietly repeated. My husband was looking for a toothpick and there was one there every time. The food.... lovely food, good variety and in one word delicious!! Afternoon tea was a treat and always a spectacle. Entertainment... during the day there was lots to do and I enjoyed the fact that I would join activities, I wouldn’t normally do. Lectures on air travel, a dance class. In the evening we enjoyed the shows, yes some of the dancing wasn’t what I would ordinarily choose to see, but I still enjoyed it as part of the experience. Some of the shows were exceptional, Francis Ruffelles fro the West End was fantastic. Dancing in G32 was fun and a drink in your Sunday best in the Commodore’s Club is special! Embarking and disembarking was easy a very organised. Maybe my only criticism would be that drinks are very expensive. We loved every minute and can’t wait to see you again QM2 ❤️ Read Less

We took a cruise from Singapore to Dubai, on part of the QM2 around the world trip. The cabin with sheltered balcony was great and we had an ice bucket with champagne waiting for us when we embarked. The ship is beautiful and the staff were helpful and efficient. The negatives for me were firstly the standard of food in the Britannia Restaurant which we were assigned to. The food was generally not prepared in a manner fitting the ship or the price of the cruise, meat and fish were dry and needed sauces, the vegetables were often hard - beyond al dente and almost uncooked, and the desserts were tasteless and unimaginative. The chefs seemed to focus more on presentation than the taste and texture of the food. We went to the buffet on deck 7 quite often which had a bigger variety of better prepared food and enjoyed it more than the restaurant. The other negative is the fact that there are two very small pools for a large number of people, the limit in each pool is 14 (I think) and there was hardly any room to move around if there was half that number in the water. As the temperatures were around 30 degrees and more, a lot of people were in and out of the pool especially on sea days. I preferred my previous cruises on smaller ships that had better food and bigger pools. Read Less

We started as a cruise of a lifetime and ended as a demotivated disaster. This once great international liner is now a British floating holiday park, There is a ghost like senior management team only ever to be seen fraternising with Grills guests and drinking wine. With the distinct exception of Captain Wells who seems now to do the job of Cruise Director and Hotel Manager as well as his own. In 34 Nights I only saw 4 Shows and 2 bumpers involving the singers and dancers. The rest of the evenings were guest entertainers of which only 3 were of a standard expected of QM2 ,the rest were not even suitable for my local village hall. I suppose not surprising as the whole feel of the entertainment was that of a holiday park. Who is booking this holiday park drivvle. No entertainment outside the sailaway party was more of a wake than a party with the so called band finishing their set before the ship had gone anywhere. The cruise staff who were not even upto holiday park standard spent most of their time chatting to each other and photographers rather than guests.Once again no senior management to be seen ALL SAID THIS IS THE WORST CRUISE I HAVE EVER BEEN ON. This once great elegant liner is now Haven holidays at sea. Read Less

Overall, it is difficult to imagine anyone who is executing the overall shipboard experience better than Cunard and their flagship Queen Mary 2. From the big pieces, ship design and maintenance, to the fine details, cool towels and ice water waiting for guests returning from ashore, everything was executed brilliantly. We were on the Christmas holiday sailing roundtrip from New York in a sheltered balcony stateroom and we took our meals in the Britannia Dining Room at the late sitting. Some areas that may be most interesting for those considering a voyage. EMBARKATION Absolutely seamless. We arrived via car service at the pier and were through check-in, had our photo snapped, dropped off our hand luggage in the room and were eating in the Kings Court in less than 30 minutes. Our luggage was delivered before 4PM. STATEROOM Our sheltered balcony was well-appointed, with more than adequate storage. The room was spotlessly clean and in overall excellent condition. There were two minor issues, we had some very warm but not hot water for about 24 hours, but the problem was documented and corrective action taken and our room was able to be cooled just adequately, but didn't really offer the ability to make it delightfully cool. FOOD Food in the Britannia Dining room was outstanding. The menu had a very broad and deep offering with diverse flavors always on display. Portions were perfectly sized for a multi-course meal and the service was attentive and professional. One of Cunard's signature benefits is lunch served daily in the dining room, even on port days, which we found very pleasant. The Kings Court was recently refreshed and the new layout is far superior to the previous version. While the overall selection may be slightly smaller than what is available on other ships, the quality of the individual dishes is outstanding and there certainly are dishes to suit a wide variety of tastes. We only had breakfast from room service, but the food arrived fresh and the order was correctly filled. It is a luxurious option to have a hot meal delivered in the morning. ENTERTAINMENT Cunard is unparalleled in their breadth of onboard entertainment. The guest lecturers were world class, the evening entertainers very good to exceptional and the days offered so many options that it would be all but impossible to take it all in. SHIP Queen Mary 2 remains unique among ships offering cruises. She feels more like a grand stately hotel than anything, but maintains a great maritime heritage. Despite the large number of passengers, the ship never felt crowded. Overall cleanliness and condition were absolutely marvelous. The crew's care and attention to detail was evident everywhere. ITINERARY While it was not the critical factor in our choosing this journey, the round trip out of New York and stops in Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, St. Maarten make for a great variety of experiences and of course it all begins and ends in one of the world's greatest cities. SUMMARY Cruising with Cunard is different than anywhere else. There is a formality and refinement that just isn't prominent elsewhere. This leads to a great environment that isn't stuffy or boring, but refined and thoroughly enjoyable. Between the magnificent ship, the fabulous food, the superior service and the warm waters of the Caribbean in December, this was a marvelous journey. Read Less

As a critic, it becomes a nightmare to fulfil your dreams, as you are always on duty you never switch of. I choose Queen Mary2 because I still believe she is the most elegant ocean liner that’s sails, awaiting the new queen, many whispers on what she will be called “Queen Anne” is my answer now to wait and see, the cruise set sail and began its magnificent voyage to New York seven sea days. I was disappointed to find the ginger bread village had been cut only a quarter of the village displayed and they didn’t bring it out until we continued onto the Caribbean. The Cunard guest choir was outstanding. The staff always serving at such high standards. The North Pole making connection to say Father Christmas arriving the children amazed .. perfect xmas voyage - finally I could switch off.. place my sun hat upon my head and relax as we headed towards the Caribbean feeling the warmth as my body began to tan. New Year’s Eve the 8 o’clock party to bring in the new year in the golden lion was absolutely one of the best parties I have been too for bringing everyone together. The veranda head waiter and his staff for me shone more than any one with exception to Clyde and Romas in the golden lion. The Britannia restaurant food was of a good standard Christmas Day was exceptional. The spa for once on a cruise ship had a hairdresser that actually could do your hair. Maya. The events planner deepsha was professional in organising my event to perfection. The itinerary packed with things to do what ever your day you desired to fill with. The water colour class was a great class as 35 dollars also the floristry class with mikey and jay lo absolutely outstanding 50 dollars for a two day course. You practiced with beautiful flowers and Cunard never cheated you to gain money , they gave an exceptional class to ensure you had a five star experience. I took myself off to the 9.am fencing club now able to use a sword beware this critic can now defend herself. Midge Ure was performing and also gave lectures this was received well with passengers, whilst I carried in the moves with his daughter Molly in the fabulous G32. Until Dawn broke. The queen Mary2 suffered a complete power failure through out the ship on New Year’s Eve late in the evening. Darkness hitting the ship no power for around 25 minutes. The ship drifting as the chief engineer and his colleagues desperately trying to find a solution, alongside the captain who took almost 10 mins to make his announcement try to get to grips with what was happening to the ship before trying to let passengers know the details, some passengers complained this was too long but for the captain safety being his first priority. Three times they tried and Queen was back under command. A ship where no panic hit due to the training given to ensure passengers were safe and not frightened at this time. Another negative the social hostess was the worst I have ever come across, dosnt interact with passengers is very off putting Thai I was shocked to see, but I didn’t downgrade a star because I know Cunard will deal with it . So yes Queen Mary2 as you as sail keep on making dreams a reality. Yes she is a little more pricey but if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. There is ONLY 1 Oceanliner in the world like it,and its not to be confused with a cruise ship. Every day was an Event and it wasnt the locations or destinations that made the cruise special it was the the cruise it self, even the crew loved sea days . Its smooth even in the Atlantic, there is a sense of occasion and dining at the princess grill was nothing short of exceptional and with a cellar of over 400,000 bottles on board the choices are plentiful and and fruitful.Every dinner was a dinner party nobody could wait to talk about the day and enjoy the evening .The rooms are spacious the staff is exceptional. I was so impressed that i booked another cruise Now before you think this is a retired persons ship, you are almost correct most have retired in there 40s or semi retired. I have travelled on other lines however if you like a more serene cruise with a sense of occasion with out screaming children this is it .sailing out of New York Harbour has history and probably the most iconic entry/ departure port in the world. The rooms are great , I have say they are better insulated than other liners so you dont hear almost anyone, the downside of this insulation is internet, it is best used in public areas or leave the door ajar. I personally can't wait for the next one, for me and probably more 80% of the passengers on board the only question is "when can we do this again.?" Read Less

A crossing on the QM2 was a bucket list item and chose our 36th Anniversary as the time to take this cruise. We chose this cruise because we wanted an elegant experience that harkens back to the grand ships from 70 years ago and QM2 delivered. Our balcony stateroom (deck 11) afforded great views and plenty of space. The food in the Britannia dining room (breakfast & dinner) was excellent. How can you go wrong with choices like steak, fish, rack of lamb, beef Wellington, lobster, pheasant, and venison. Staff service was great including our room steward fulfilling a special request to shine my shoes for the first formal night. Special light meals and specialty coffees in the Corinthia lounge with string quartet and watching ballroom dancing at high tea with cucumber sandwiches and scones are experiences not found anywhere in Fort Lauderdale where we live. The dancers in the shows were outstanding and could perform on any network dancing show. Anyone looking to escape their work a day world and dress up at night this ship is for you. We loved it! In late 2018 we waited to find another amazing bargain on an off-season trip on Cunard from Barcelona to Southampton. Given the increased demand for cruises, this was not to be. The backup plan was to re-create the original idea for our honeymoon over 30 years ago, a transatlantic cruise. Prices were decent on Queen Mary 2 crossings and frequent flyer miles /points could be used for flights and a Manhattan hotel as the school holidays were mostly over. Cunard requires or at least celebrates formal attire and dressing up, so for that one needs baggage. The New York yellow cabs in the form of small Nissan vans are ideal for jumbo suitcases. The cab to the Holiday Inn Flatiron from LGA was around $50 and the same from the hotel to the ship. After reading many postings online, we jumped in the cab right after hotel check-out at 11 and arrived at the Red Hook Cruise Terminal at noon. We were aboard and unpacking our checked luggage in our stateroom by 12:45. I tracked down several senior hotel officers at the welcome reception and thanked them personally for this amazing effort. The secret on the speedy luggage delivery was later revealed by one of the waiters – a draft of crew from other departments helps to expedite the ship turnaround and bag delivery. Once aboard the Golden Lion Pub did not disappoint. I am still slowly working my way down the beer list aboard, and a Jaipur IPA was a good choice. I managed over the week to try most of the excellent lunch choices. I started trying to decide between the fish and chips and the chicken tikka but ended up on the ploughman’s platter with the duck mousse, ham, chutney and an excellent soft bun. A glance at the program for embarkation day revealed ballroom dancing with the live orchestra was at 8:30, which was also the time of our dinner seating. We are early dinner people and the reported 260 person wait list and notice in the program and signs to not try to seek early dining were not encouraging. Buffets seem unsanitary and remind me of a school cafeteria no matter how classy they are. We are not steak people either, so Veranda was out (they had a six only week trial of a steakhouse menu) but the Italian alternative option – La Piazza -up in the buffet area ($14.50 on sale) seemed fine. They set up tablecloths and the china and the buffet wait staff did a credible job of providing fine dining for us. I had a shrimp and scallops entrée that was well prepared. The way to arrange early MDR seating if it is utterly sold out is to wait a day, then ask kindly for the dining room leadership to sort out a temporary place. The no-show rate is significant for assigned dinner places. You can also start a self-important rant as one woman we know did but that seems tacky. The dancing was good. The dance floor seemed smaller (or perhaps wider and shorter) than the one on Queen Victoria or even the NCL Breakaway. We loved the orchestra (seven pieces and a skilled vocalist). Dances included foxtrot, waltz and rumba. They would mix in a jive and quickstep and play also recorded sequence dances on the band breaks. Note a metronome as in use by the band leader. We were counting noses on the dance staff and came up short. There is usually a ranked dance couple aboard along with the hosts and hostesses. There was apparently last-minute incident involving the scheduled dance couple. The lead dancers from the theater filled in – the lessons were just right. I despise in room refrigerators and the one on our deck five sheltered balcony cabin tortured me. Every 32.8 seconds it cycled, ran a bit then shut off. I called the front desk and they came out to fix it. After a new motor it now cycled every 40 seconds. Our cabin attendant, Nancy, got wind of this and agreed to have it unplugged. In the cabin you get a real teapot and plenty of outlets. The drawer pulls are pretty but useless as reported. They had a blissful limit to piped in music and announcements broadcast over the PA- even on the morning of departure. Britannia dining was hit and miss. Several of us mentioned looking at the main dining room menus and the published-online “French” one for Verandah and being baffled as to what some of it was. The idea of mixing salads and starters on the menu was unusual. One of our table mates was surprised to see the fish course was fried with chips. It got better over the week- for those wanting lobster tails at no extra charge those were served the last formal night. The service was flawless. We had a lovely discussion over breakfast on Morocco with our fellow passengers (a trip on my bucket list) which is a feature of Cunard. The morning breakfast large tables never failed to produce fascinating conversation. The lectures were interesting- I am a bit of a cruise ship/liner historian and one of the retired staff – Maureen Ryan (who is a rock star brand ambassador) - from the Queen Mary and QE2 gave a stirring several first person account of life aboard. The idea of second seating dining continued to bother me until it was pointed out that the clocks were to be set on hour later five times during the cruise at noon. So, after a while, late seating got earlier and earlier by our body clocks. And the band started at 9:45 after the first days. The only line all week was to enter the tea dance, which was well executed. We peeked in at one show – it was dancing – but a bit stylized for us. Cunard has onboard boxing rings- the guest laundries. If you chose to join the fray, don’t wander off after your washing is done as there is keen competition for washers and dryers. On the other hand, lost socks were politely placed in the basket. We had lovely mild weather all week- calm seas and Force 2-3 winds. This is apparently more common in summer – and Force 10 winds and matching storm driven waves are not unheard of in January as an example. The aft pool is a must have feature. There was still a bit of grousing about the cost of single cabins aboard- they at least have some. There were reportedly more than 300 single passengers aboard. The new spaces post drydock are attractive – I would have found a way to make the Britannia dining room and the dance floor larger, the rest of the ship layout seems sensible. There was not a trace of smoke from the modest casino or anyplace else on board, except, sensibly, the after outside teak deck, downwind. Several of the public rooms, such as the disco (G32) were quite stunning. And of course, the best feature, the wrap around promenade desk, was in constant use. The only real gap all week was the Edwardian Internet- the Connexons Internet Center was ground zero for angry guests and those filled with stress and worry about slowness, application access and the ancient logout.com feature not working. Cunard needs to a invest a little here in more satellite dishes- reliable Internet is as important to their guests as say tea or scones these days. On Saturday around 11am, it took exactly 50 minutes to download a 79.2-megabyte file. This is also a crossing not a cruise and historically, captains of industry dictated memos and managed business affairs by letter (and later telephone) all along. The days flew by. By the time we realized this it was Friday afternoon- and there was a good trade at the onboard booking office. My four novels, three movies and one (the shame of it) business book were finished. First, this review is my personal opinion. This is my first time on the QM2 and second cruise ever. My first cruise ever was an inside cabin on the Crown Princess cruise in the Caribbean. For background while I enjoy cruising I would not consider myself a diehard cruiser. Also, if something is really subpar I will say so. I do not think the QM2 is subpar in any way for a mass market cruise ship. A Note on the Weather: We encountered fog on the way up and back. You might want to check to see if this is normal this time of year for this itinerary and decide for yourself if this would affect your enjoyment. The seas were generally calm. A bit of excitement: On the way north a passenger got sick and a US coast guard helicopter landed on the top deck to pick them up. I didn’t think there was room up there for a helicopter but apparently there was. Bottom line: We liked the cruise and would consider the QM2 for another cruise however my biggest problem was the price. I thought the $300 per person per night for a Britannia class obstructed view balcony cabin was not justified by the value received. I don’t feel cheated, just that it was a little overpriced. I would probably consider the QM2 for a transatlantic return to the US or possibly some other itinerary. More extensive review: This is a mass market cruise ship and so I review it as such. After 2 cruises I have learned that on cruises the attitude and how other passengers act very significantly affects your enjoyment of the cruise. If the other passengers are loud, obnoxious, rude and do not dress appropriately they can ruin your cruise. On the other hand if the other passengers behave appropriately for the cruise then you can have a better time. On this specific cruise I think the majority of passengers dressed and behaved appropriately, even the children. In my opinion, based on this cruise, the QM2 is appropriate for passengers wanting the following type of cruise: • a nice calm relaxing vacation, e.g., to destress, read a book from their extensive shipboard library • low key • dressing for dinner • ballroom dancing • afternoon tea • trivia contests • sipping a cocktail or glass of wine in one of the many bars or by one of the pools • enjoying a lecture on weather or whatever else is being discussed or maybe taking a class on fencing (personally I would have liked to try the fencing but never quite made it to the class) While most of the passengers were older there were younger passengers and some children a few of which dressed for dinner. I thought I saw a five year old in either a dark suit or tuxedo on formal night. If you enjoy the following I suggest you find a different ship or you will be wasting your money, will not be happy, and annoy other passengers: • drink a lot and get drunk • be loud and party (this is not a party ship, even on the Crown Princess cruise which skewed older there were more 20 and 30 year olds who discoed and drank more and were loud) • want to wear casual clothes at dinner • want water slides, rock climbing walls, etc. The food: On the whole I thought the food was fine. We ate most dinners in the main dining room (MDR). This is not a five star or Michelin rated restaurant in a large city. However, overall the service was excellent and I though the meals we had were Ok to very good considering the number of meals they serve. We had a 2 person table at the early seating which we requested when we booked the cruise. There is a dress code at dinner. I saw the crew turn one person away who was not properly dressed although I did see someone who was not properly dressed sneak in. As I stated before, if you do not want to dress for dinner (men wear jacket without tie on informal nights) you should probably pick a different cruise, you will be wasting your money on this ship. We also ate breakfast twice in the main dining room, once in our room, and once at the buffet. The breakfast in our room was very enjoyable, came on time and hot, same with the MDR. We didn’t particularly care for the buffet, the food was not necessarily bad. It is just that it gets crowded, can be hard to find a seat and generally reminds me of the buffets they have in US casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. The one nice thing is it is open early if you need to get to an excursion and we found our way there at 1 AM one time and they still had a small selection of food available (some hot). For lunch I didn’t think the menus in the MDR were up to par, we never tried it. We did have lunch in the Golden Lion Pub on embarkation day (really glad we chose to go there instead of the buffet) and one other day. It can get crowded in the pub for lunch when it first opens so get there early or wait for a seat. It is a limited menu however, we very much enjoyed it and the atmosphere. They actually had some beers that had to be hand pumped out of the barrel. They let me sample a beer or two before I purchased, very civilized. They had 2 dart boards in the back and they play trivia here. They also serve a small selection of hot snacks and deserts in the Carinthia Lounge for breakfast and lunch. Given its proximity to the buffet at breakfast or lunch you can grab something in the buffet and from the Carinthia Lounge to round out your meal. The QM2 also has a proper afternoon tea in the Queens Room. We tried it once and it was very nice. Actually they do a very nice afternoon tea on the Crown Princess (my wife thought they were equivalent to the QM2) however it is much more crowded on the QM2 compared to the Crown Princess so they line up early on the QM2. On the QM2 they had a selection of teas (you can purchase champagne by the glass), finger sandwiches, scones with what they called clotted cream (I am not really sure it was true clotted cream although it tasted fine), and other nice deserts. They had chamber music during the tea. They also have scones etc. in the buffet which you can grab and enjoy out on the promenade if the weather is nice (the buffet and the promenade are both deck 7). Bars and night clubs. There are several bars on the QM2. Most of the bars have some form of live music or entertainment at various times of the day and evening (e.g., piano player, harpist, jazz band, rock group). For some reason they close the shades in the Commodore Club at sunset, wish they didn't. I thought the live music was on par with the Crown Princess. I think the Carinthia Lounge is the place to go if you want to try ports. I did a port flight there. In general I thought the cocktails in the bars were properly made and reasonably priced by US large city standards. Way better than the cocktails on the Crown Princess, maybe because they do not do drink packages on the QM2 for Britannia class. I tried a couple of mixed non-alcoholic beverages (smoothies, mock tails) that I thought were quite good. They have wine by the glass which we tried, it was OK. It is probably less expensive to buy wine by the bottle which they will supposedly hold for you until it is finished, another passenger told us that this is what they do. You can also bring your own wine onboard and consume it in your room for free which we did (supposedly you can pay a corkage fee and have it in one of the public venues, we didn’t try this). We also brought our own bottled water and soda on board, it was not inconvenient for us to do this. There is one location on the ship that I would consider a night club, it is G32. We looked in but did not stay, they had live music at night. Seemed nice and there were people there. The big thing about the QM2 is that they have a real ballroom for dancing (fox trot, waltz, tango, etc.), the Queens Room (proper dress required). The dance floor is relatively large. They have live music from a good band at certain times of the evening. Even if you don’t dance it is worth going there to watch other people dance. Personally, even if you are younger I would suggest trying to learn a little ballroom dancing, you might hate it however you might also like it. Personally, while some may consider it heresy, I would suggest to Cunard that they add some line dancing in the ballroom for the younger crowd, you DO NOT have to nor should you reduce/eliminate the dress code for this. The ship as a whole. I thought the ship as a whole was nice. I thought the ship itself was on par with the Crown Princess however, my wife really liked the QM2 better. A lot of time on the Crown Princess they are trying to sell you stuff. The pools were nice and one of the pools (Pavilion Pool) they will close the glass cover when the weather is inclement so it can still be enjoyed. I think they have live music by the pools at certain times however we didn’t see it. Other things we did on the ship. Saw a planetarium show, it was nice (you need to get tickets in advance). Saw a 3d movie in Illuminations. Played trivia in the pub one evening. Saw the show in the theater first night out, it was fine, not spectacular. Watched a lecture on the weather which I enjoyed. Listened to a ghost story in Carinthia Lounge, it was OK but should have been done later at night when it was dark. Took a book out of the really big library, for a ship. Walked the promenade a few times and sat out on deck a few times. Really liked the promenade. Tried shuffle board. One thing I did miss that they have on the Crown Princess is outdoor movies however I assume that they don't have this because it is more appropriate to the Caribbean as opposed to the itinerary that the QM2 usually has. Service overall was very nice everywhere. Shore excursions. As a whole we really didn't care for Saint John (not that much to do) however I did enjoy the Fundy Coastal Photography tour. I like and always have liked Boston, we are about a five hour drive from Boston.. Didn't do any of the ship sponsored tours, didn't need to. I did like that Cunard provided a free shuttle to and from a center of Boston. We could see some fireworks from the upper deck and other passengers chose to watch the fireworks there however you are pretty far away and do not have the same experience as if you are up close. We live near Brooklyn so we just drove there and left the car until we returned. If you have never been to New York before and your cruise either starts or ends here I strongly recommend allowing at least 2 to 3 full days to explore he city either before or after your cruise. Disembarkation was fine however embarkation could have been organized better. Read Less

Been on 7 Cunard cruises now and enjoyed them greatly with a couple of minor exceptions. This was our first on QM2 and we were excited as she is Cunard's Flagship. However, we did not feel the on board experience was up to the usual Cunard standard. Good points, the cabin (12001) was lovely, seemed a little larger than same grade on the other ships. General ship interior is very nice, light and bright and clean everywhere. Ship layout is somewhat erratic, takes a while to get used to it, there are some quite long walks between venues. But then she is larger than the other two. The bad points, well, we did not like the Kings Court Buffet compared to the LIdo Buffet on QE and QV. This one is very very noisy, no sound proofing, ie carpet anywhere, horrible seating layout (straight rows with little separation - like a canteen) and the food was not up to the usual high standards we have had before. its a bunfight at best. We tried for Planetarium tickets - notice says they are available from 09:00 on first come first served. I arrived at 09:00 to find 6 other people waiting. No-one came with tickets. So one passenger called the front desk. A very curt female arrived to tell us the tickets had all gone. I asked how could that be since it was now only 09:05 and we had been there since 09:00 and some of the group before that - and no tickets had been handed out - whereupon she told me very rudely: " Well I don't know, ask your fellow passengers!" - I took exception to that and told her no - that does not answer my question as to why there are no tickets - and that I did not believe her. Clearly these had already been given to a group in advance. I returned some 20 minutes later to find another set of people eagerly waiting at the Connexions desk - and so I advised them all tickets had gone - as no-one from Cunard was anywhere to be seen to let them know. This was disgusting. At least be honest !! The staff do lack in many areas. Our cabin attendant never introduced himself on embarkation as is usual, nor did he advise us of the muster drill time, etc. In fact we only ever saw him once when he delivered a bowl of fruit. Bar staff, I ordered a diet coke, she opened a regular coke then gave me the evils when I told her I asked for a diet coke. As for the MDR - well once again Cunard assigned us a table in a dark corner by a service station - heaven knows how you get a good table - if anyone knows the secret please tell me - 7 cruises and not a decent table yet. And now we will be platinum! In general the mini-cruise itself was good and it's a great way to try out a different ship. We love it that Cunard has wrap-round promenade decks on all ships. Really like to walk around the decks both day and evening. The Cunard tour we took to Rouen was excellent, lovely town, even on a very foggy day. This was a taster of the QM2 for us as we have a 14 night one booked next year. This trip was the "decider" as to whether or not we would still go. We will. Read Less

After enjoying a wonderful cruise on the Queen Mary 2 in 2010 our special anniversary cruise on the QM2 was a huge disappointment and we wanted to get off 4 days into a 14 day cruise! We had more complaints about the cruise but the 3 major areas that Cunard need to address urgently are: Food, Cleanliness, Attitude towards passengers FOOD. This was really shocking especially in the King’s Court dining area where the majority of passengers will eat at some time. Poor quality, very limited choice, unimaginative menu which hardly varied, badly presented, small portions and often cold or alternatively dried out under the heat lamps. Only the occasional curry or stir fry reflected the local cuisine and these were bland and unappetising and only a couple of items cooked to order. Some examples of dishes served regularly were curly fries, Irish stew, roast chicken, skate wings, beef olives, pea puree, sponge pudding and custard, pork belly, lasagne. Breakfast was particularly poor but lunch and dinner were awful too, like being in a motorway café or a posh care home and we only ate eat here if we were really hungry, and we were often hungry (on a cruise!). There are alternative dining areas (we usually ate in the Britannia at night) but we sometimes we wanted a more relaxed buffet restaurant, didn’t want to wait to be seated in the Britannia restaurant and have waiter service. And we objected to paying nearly $40 extra per couple per dinner to sit in a cordoned off area of King’s Court to eat food which should have been included in the main buffet (e.g. Indian, Chinese, Italian, Mexican) or nearly $100 extra per couple to eat dinner in the Verandah. CLEANLINESS. The new design of the King’s Court restaurant is ill thought out with multiple entry points, no staff to encourage hand cleaning and you can enter the food areas straight from the outside deck without even passing a hand sanitizer. The food stations could have been cleaned more often during mealtimes. The windows and glass doors throughout the ship were covered with greasy finger marks and dirt and we never saw anyone cleaning them during the 2 weeks voyage. The window in the restaurant was so smeared with dirty cloth marks and finger prints that someone had written ‘CLEAN ME’ on it and that was still there when we left. Outside the decks looked dirty and marked with cups/ glasses/ plates not cleared away. Inside there were carpet stains, light fittings missing, some chairs were tatty, needing repairs and again cups, etc not cleared away. ATTITUDE. An arrogant, unfriendly attitude pervades the ship from the top down. Although some staff were excellent (our Britannia restaurant staff gave outstanding service) it felt like passengers were merely an inconvenience and many times myself and others had to stand aside to allow staff members, including the ship’s officers, to pass without even a thank you. We were often ignored or given the wrong item because people simply didn’t listen properly and we rarely saw any officers to talk to except when they had to attend the Captain’s cocktail party where they stood huddled together. This attitude affected the ambience of the ship which lacked energy, interest and warmth with many areas empty by 10pm. OVERALL OPINION. Cunard is trying to cut costs in the wrong areas, it is relying on it’s past reputation but not living up to it and it is targeting a increasing elderly clientele who may happily accept these standards but they won’t sustain future growth. Although many passengers will be loath to admit to their friends, family or even themselves that their cruise was overpriced and of a low standard I can honestly say that this experience was so bad that it has put us off cruising completely and I would not recommend the QM2 to anyone I know. The staff are really miserable, apart from a few, JR, Alfred, Christian, the waiters on table 321 and one or two others, the maintenance crew were very nice too. The staff in Kings court were mainly really miserable, there must be something wrong with management. As I was leaving and paid for 2 weeks that I will not be on board I offered my cabin to a lady who was travelling with a companion on an inside cabin, she was on a world tour and a platinum member, so you would think a valued customer....... Cunard had me waiting for 30 minutes to their headquarters to ask "permission" for someone else to use my paid for cabin! They said no, unless she paid for it too! They are very petty with charges.... Mineral water, hello! Are you an upmarket brand or cheap and nasty charging for mineral water? No one asked me why I wanted to leave the ship 2 weeks early, I have been a business owner and I would be mortified if that happened to me and want to set it right or at least know why? Also, there is no shade anywhere on the ship? Steamer seats with no towels available, yuck! Maitre d is useless and very unhelpful. I understand that it is difficult to accommodate everyone but there were so many empty seats at tables, a lot of unhappy passengers re dining. One passenger decribed his experience as a prison sentence.. Glad I broke out of my prison experience!...... Never again! Read Less

I recently took my wife on our first QM2 cruise. I list 10 positives and three negatives, but the overall ratio of good to bad was far higher than that. We definitely plan to go again and made a future cruise deposit. Ten Best Things About My QM2 Voyage • The crew, who were almost unfailingly polite, cheerful, efficient and available when needed. • The public areas of the ship, which, with the exception of King’s Court, rarely felt crowded, even on a sea day with the decks closed. • The musicians, especially the Dixieland concerts. • The dancing in the Queen’s Room. • The peaceful, well-stocked library, which features outstanding views. • Afternoon Tea, although what virtually amounts to another meal is hardly what I needed! • Room service breakfasts. • The bar/wine service at dinner. • Catholic Mass every day. • The shrimp linguini served at dinner the first night. Three Areas for Improvement • Excursion dispatching and tender operation in St. Lucia. I understand there was an initial delay beyond Cunard’s control, and I make allowances for that. But the organization left a lot to be desired. For some reason they chose to provide stickers with numbers that were not unique to the excursion, instead using a combination of number and color. Most of the colors seemed to be orange, peach, rose, pink or coral, but what could go wrong? They must have been boarding a lot of non-excursion passengers, because it took forever to get called. Then, our tender pilot had a great deal of difficulty docking and our 9:00 excursion (for which we had to report at 8:15) didn’t actually start until 10:15. When waiting to return we once again witnessed a docking procedure I can safely describe as inept, because the next tender docked without difficulty. And is there some rule that prohibits loading two tenders at the same time? Note that all of this relates to St. Lucia. I have no issue with the decision to scratch Antigua due to the conditions. • Dress code compliance, particularly in the theater and the pub. • Cunards’s website. It is full of inaccurate information. I could cite five instances, but I’ll spare you. It also requires six fields each time to log into the personalizer. Who else requires more than two or three? And the “one time” consent screen must be acknowledged every single time. So, I had to vent a bit, but this was a fantastic experience. Read Less

Just returned from our 19th Nov--15th December QM2 Caribbean cruise and thought readers might like to share our experience. Embarkation The lady checking us in was very slow and overly officious to the point we felt she was nervous. It transpired she also hadn't taken our debit card details properly so we had to be called to the pursers office once on board to register the same debit card again. Cabin Regarding our A2 Cabin issues included an intermittent vacuum problem with our toilet not flushing on seven or eight occasions but resolved itself within a few hours, however it was very disconcerting sitting on it when the flush returned! The only other thing was whistling wind when at sea through the sliding patio door seals but the thick curtains helped. Our cabin was one of the new cabins on the 13th deck and a great improvement over standard cabins. The Club cabin living area looked similar in floor area but more luxurious than a standard Britannia balcony cabin. Our cabin had extra framed pictures and a very attractive bevelled mirror made up of six segments above the desk area. My wife did laugh though as she thought this was designed by a man because when she sat down for makeup and to dry her hair, her head reflected right into the bevelled areas of the central mirror segments. She looked like something out of the hall of mirrors and had to therefore stand up to do this which proved more than a little tedious throughout the cruise. The wall mounted television was central at the end of the bed and in a good position to view from there though we had to be a little careful passing the end of the bed as the screen protruded a few inches from the wall. From what I can remember there were mainly a few movie channels, BBC & Sky News and BBC HD and channel with soaps including East Enders, Coronation St, Emmerdale & White Chapel that might be welcome especially for longer cruises . Despite the recent dry dock there were still no movies on demand so we usually ended up seeing part of a film rather than all of it despite the programme times advertised in leaflets. We found the on board itinerary made it difficult to catch up for the start of films. Many of the cabin surfaces on our 13 deck cabin were roll tops of a luxurious marble look and very attractive. The bathroom surfaces were again of a marble look and the shower had large attractive light beige stone style tiling with a clear shower door that opened inwards or outwards, there were clear rubber seals on the door edges that prevented any water from escaping into the main bathroom area. We thought the doors also opening outwards very sensible for larger people. The shower itself was lovely! A light touch on the button on the shower head delivered four different settings! The bathroom itself had plenty of storage both under the basin and corner shelving. The Ship We felt the Carinthia Lounge was a great improvement over the old Winter Garden. Clearly much thought had been made to the new furnishings and dividing spaces where we sat in comfort while listening to the harpist or pianist. The area where snacks were served seemed like a good idea too. The newly improved Kings Court proved much easier to navigate and the new seating was very comfortable on the few occasions we used this. The films we saw in Illuminations were mostly very recent releases, and interesting films too (well done Cunard!) films like Dunkirk, Churchill, The Mountain Between Us, Kingsman II The Golden Circle etc. There were plenty of piano recitals. Our favourite past time was listening to the young talented harpist and pianists in the Carinthia and Commodore Lounges. The Theatre The newly boarded singers and dancers were in our opinion not worth watching, perhaps they will improve given time. Other acts seemed to be far more entertaining. Many of the speakers we found fascinating. Speakers Popular talks included the Costume Designer for The Greatest Showman and other well know films, the well respected author, actor & historian Joshua Levine talking about the blitz and Dunkirk; and a Canadian Astraunaut talking about his International Space Station experience. Such interesting speakers is one of the reasons why we book with Cunard. The Club Restaurant After an initial hiccup in the starboard side Club restaurant we asked if we could move to the Port side Club. This was because we felt the atmosphere was very tense, a couple of servers really did appear not to be team players and seemed disinterested to the point where my lovely DW was afraid to ask for another tea for fear of constant rolling eyes. A very unusual occurance and thankfully the Food and Beverage manager and head Maitre' D got back to us straight away and this was quickly dealt with. After the move we found Dominic and his team truly wonderful, his flambé seemed regularly available at table for customers who asked and Bruno our sommelier knew all the wines and gave us invaluable advice to the point where we left him to choose our preferred non EU New World wine selection. A suitable wine is an important part of our Cunard holiday and Bruno completed the 26 day challenge very well. Our table servers were lovely too, Carlo & Gonzalo were courteous and extremely capable. Overall we found the anytime dining experience suited our needs and the tables were spaced out well but close enough in many cases for neighbouringt ables wanting a quick chat. Food The food in the Club mirrored Britannia with the addition of the back page A La Carte section which remained the same throughout the trip but provided welcome additions such as scallops and beef tornados, the latter being my favourites. We found the quality and selection of the dinner menu very good indeed. The food in Kings Court was a little hit and miss, the minute steaks weretougher than my old boots but the succulent chicken kebabs were a hit with us. Late night KC offerings included savaloy hot dogs but I noted gone were my beloved KC late night burgers, oh how I mourn for them!. We also found that on occasion for lunch when there might be nothing on the Britannia Club lunchtime menu or KC to our liking, a better alternative was the in cabin food service. The sirloin steaks were OK and the club sandwich and delicious burgers were of a very good quality and delivered hot. Also Rose who answered our in cabin orders was always polite and helpful. Itinerary Amber Cove and St Kitts seemed a reasonable replacement to the islands of St Martin & St Thomas that had suffered the recent storm damage. Just a couple of observations though regarding the anchor tender ports. We noticed announcements for independent passengers disembarking were not made until 11am. Not a great deal of time to explore when the last call for tender was in some cases 4.30pm though I guess not entirely surprising for a ship with so many passengers. Something to be aware of if not on a ship excusion. Also Antigua the last port of call, an anchor port, happens to be our favourite was cancelled. The captain made an announcement that the anchor was dragging on the sand bed and with the 15mph on shore winds this left the ship at risk of drifting towards the shore. It was announced that a handful of passengers had already got off so the ship would have to maintain position using thrusters etc until they could be brought back on board which transpired to be not until 5.30pm that evening which left the ships passengers we spoke to disappointed to say the least! Nothing was offered from Cunard for the huge disappointment of missing one out of 5 Caribbean ports and it being the last and arguably the best, not even a drink! The itinerary experience of missing out on the last port really was the biggest downside. I will have to review sailing on the QM2 to the Caribbean in future because of the problems with tender ports.I hope this will help anyone who is thinking about booking a similar cruise. Read Less

Kings Court improvements were well received by most . Caronia Lounge was also a big improvement over the old , very underutilized Winter Garden. I was suprized that the cabins added on deck 13 seemed hardly noticeable and loss of that rarely used wading pool and bar were not missed. Cabin TV's and Hot water pot were a nice improvement. Now a few big negatives as far as we are concerned. Reducing the Casino size to make room for more cabins , I feel was a mistake. The congestion at popular casino times , turned us off from using it. Transfering all that interior space that use to be the photo gallery , making it into a hardly visited permanent Art Gallery , is a shame. The Logo Store has been reduced to a small corner of a larger store . Tiny selection of Logo items , Logo clothing , etc. Godiva Candy shop seemed seldom used . Planetarium had only 2 different shows for this 7 night cruise and 1 was broken , so it was the same 1 show every sea day.(why not just substitute an older show ?) Read Less

An amazing experience. Crossing the Atlantic Ocean on a true ocean liner is the only way to go. Never want to fly across again. Everything was wonderful and exceeded our expectations. However, we'd researched ahead of time and knew what to expect-horrible food! If we hadn't known this heading into the crossing we'd have been very disappointed. Food quality aside, the ship and its entertainment and enrichment activities were superb. The high evening dress standards and formal nights were such more enjoyable than expected, very special indeed. Music onboard is seconds to none in the cruise industry. We were fortunate enough to have the British National Orchestra performing on our crossing. Stick to the main dining room or Grills for all meals, they are the least bad option. The buffet is TERRIBLE, so, so bad... Wine list is extensive if a bit over priced but not badly so. Extremely comfortable bed, pillows, and linens. Excellent service all around once onboard ship. Great spa and fitness facilities. Read Less

We had a morning walking around the old town of Southampton as our check in was 2.30pm. and a short taxi ride from the hotel. The QM2 had arrived at 9am. Wow what a sight from the Hotel. Slick booking in, bags disappeared at door and a long and well stocked (receptionist line) – zero queue. Only hoot was the discussion about the ESTA rules for expiry (unlike a passport it can be the day after you leave eg current ) we had Dec 2017 on ours and there were conversations about this – but not an issue. Issued with boarding cards. Straight on to ship (we arrived only slightly early, as per the Cunard communications. Cabin 6137 – perfect right in the middle of the ship.great – better than I hoped. Steward Dennis, professional and the room was always well kept and clean. Ship wow Only sea going planetarium, casino, pubs, shops. Only comment the pavilion pool – the tiles are chipped and the changing room (like a public pool from the 1960's) - flooded floor -one cubicle and the entrance door open onto the pool area, so it I was going from the shower to the flooded manky cubicle – I would be on view if someone opened the door – and same for my wife I understand. Crew, food wow. Drinks VERY Expensive. Dress for dinner 3 formal nights – perfect --- we did the 6pm sitting and felt that was just right as we are early up people. Our friends at Table, USE, New Zealand and British were great company. We did breakfast and some lunches in the Kings Court (buffet) and a meal in the pub. All good Shows – really good. Two people playing one piano – amazing. Casino and arranged activities great – QM2 has it all. Took me 5 visits to eventually see the ‘view of the bridge’ well worth it. We did every deck down to 13 – 2. (TIP) The Silly Wrist bands sea sickness Worked. I was ill only on the morning of day two after that even a force 9 gale at night did not bother me. (TIP) Launderette FREE even the wash powder – and well machines broke down on every deck – but FREE .. washer / dryer and ironing board 2/x ( 4 machines on deck 6 6137 side) (Poor) Leaving the ship – not knowing the time until the day before a pain, rang the car transfer (WASTE of Time) - not Cunard's fault. (Poor) Off boarding – the cases were randomly left in a huge deck 6 area - finding all 4 – took ten minutes.(note to Cunard please!) - the ship is run perfect the cases in the harbour, silly badly managed. The voyage is the vacation! We chose this trip because we love sea days in the first place, we've always wanted to try Cunard and found an amazing deal. Originally the plan was to cruise to Southampton and fly home, but getting from ship to Heathrow is a pain so we just went both ways. First the ship: Queen Mary 2 is the only true ocean liner afloat. She was designed and built to cross the North Atlantic. She is smooth, fast, luxurious and absolutely amazing in her design. The layout can be a bit confusing especially moving on the lower decks from back to front and back again, which you do a lot going to the different venues. Entertainment: Two Theaters. Really. The Royal Court theater for the production and feature entertainment shows and some of the speakers, and Illuminations, which is a very nice venue for speakers, movies oh and yeah, a planetarium. Most amazing. A great big ballroom at the aft of the ship, and a high tech night club. Music in most bars in the evenings. Daytime music recitals, and classical music at afternoon tea. They had some really terrific guest speakers. I could go on about the world war 2 veterans for hours, but just go to tggf.org and read about these wonderful people yourself. Food: Absolutely some of the best. Main Dining room: I've had a few better meals on other ships, but in general the chef's on QM2 do a terrific job. Our only complaint is the layout of the buffet, It's not done well. Very tight quarters, noisy and kind of difficult to navigate. The food is good though. We were assigned an A2 class balcony on deck 13. How cool was that??!! I was told that most balcony cabins are generally the same, the only difference being location. The deck 13 cabins were only installed in June 2016, so very new and very nice. In short, I'm checking my websites every few days in hopes of finding another great deal on the QM2 Read Less

We took the five day Independence Day cruise on the Queen Mary 2 in July. Overall it was a good cruise. We sailed in a Britannia Club cabin on Deck12. It had a nice balcony and fairly good closet space, although one closet was deep and hard to access the full depth. The shower had a hard time with constant water temperature and had a shower curtain rather than a door; a door would have been a step up. The room was made up twice a day although one evening we were down a hand towel. We got chocolate each night. We thought dining in Britannia Club was a real plus. Having the same table and staff for each meal allowed for better service. Being able to decide on our own when to eat as opposed to first or second seating was a plus, too. We thought the food was really good and the French toast at breakfast was a real treat. Wine service at dinner was good with lots of selections by the glass or bottle and a sommelier to assist. Unfinished bottles can be kept for future dinners. We went to a couple shows and they were ok. The Purple Haze band that plays around the ship was good. The casino was good early on at the blackjack table, then they raised the minimum bids partway through the cruise so we just cashed in our chips. We tried the buffet at lunch a couple times and the food was good but the arrangement was confusing. The service at the bars was mixed. The champagne bar and Commodore Club were good; the Chart Room was slow. The BBQ flatbread in Carinthia Lounge was quite good. We did the special wine tasting lunch on the last day and the food and wine were very good. It took about two and a half hours though, so we thought it could've been a little quicker. The ship can be a little hard to navigate. There is a lack of symmetry on port and starboard sides and some hard to find areas, such as the scenic elevator and the bridge viewing area. Embarkation was very slow. We were in line about an hour and a half. It seemed they needed more people processing passengers; a number of windows were unstaffed. There were also big lines on board for clearing US immigration on our way back to Boston. They gave us cards to indicate we cleared immigration but then nobody asked for them when getting off. In Halifax we docked near the boardwalk so getting into town was easy. We went to the Maritime museum, which was very good. In Boston, they ran shuttles into the Faneuil Hall area which was convenient. The ship was in a good location to watch the fireworks on Independence Day from the top decks. Disembarking was fairly easy. We did self walk-off and got off early. Overall, a four star cruise. Read Less

Cabin 10133 on Cunard Queen Mary to ship travelling out on 24 May for two nights. We stayed in a penthouse suite. The suite was quite nice but there was certainly no butler service. Just a room steward whom we saw a couple of times if that. When we really needed him, he was nowhere to be seen, nor to be contacted by phone. There was no particular dispensation for suite guests as they proclaim. The Queens grill food was dry and awful and lacklustre as was the service. There was certainly no filet mignon with eggs on top for breakfast nor was there châteaubriand unless you ordered it 24 hours in advance. I suppose ordering it in advance was so they could defrost a chunk of meat and try and save it up to you with icicles in the centre…! When we complained, no one bothered. It was our 40th wedding anniversary and they knew that. However we were not given any special treatment. Finally, I would like to state that the suites are fairly nice. However expensive for what they are. What's surprising is that there was no post-cruise survey so do they not care about future customer return? !! Read Less

We booked an excursion to Paphos in Cyprus. The description of the tour which appealed to us was 1. Taken to Paphos and have three hours free time to explore independently or 2. Visit the Villa and see the mosaics and the tombs of the kings and lastly 3. Take a stroll along the harbour. However, we were given no choices at all! We were dropped off at the harbour and left there. There was only a few restaurant and tacky gift shops. I was in a wheelchair and on 24/7 oxygen. We tried to find some shops but it was a long trek and we only found a very small mall and went back to the harbour and waited there for a coach to return. We put in an official complaint at this persons desk when we returned and received 10% refund which was an absolute joke we had wasted our money and our day in Cyprus. The literature is completely misleading and if we had known what was in store we still could of taken the free shuttle bus or gone to Limassol where apparently the guests had a fantastic time which made us even more fed up ..... I keep trying to get in touch with the excursions specialist team as we was advised to do once we got back to UK but I have had no luck getting through so needed to vent my feelings somewhere. As for the cleanliness of the newly refurbished Kings Court, we found it dirty, especially the walls next to the tables, the skirting, the windows. Infact, a lot of the communal areas needed TLC. They were cleaned but the staff were very lethargic and did everything at a snail's pace and didn't seem to take any pride in the fact that they were on a Cunard ship, although they cleaned they didn't clean the edges or the corners. Im a platinum member of cunard which means i have traveled a lot on all there ships mostly on QM2. the food in the britania resterant always arives less than worm although presentation is good,even though the ship has undergon a big re-fit it is still tied in parts its saving grace was getting rid of that terrible palm court. the shops are exspensive as products can be got ashore at a better price toiled papper is appoling and cheep staff seemed always to be stressed ,but always,well mostly are plesant . the big pluss are the new single staterooms although you cannot book the on the saver fair,disspite what cunard tell you,cunard were the very best at one time now they are only good to ok christmass is not recomended on cunard,not my opinion but having spoken to passangers who had don christmas told me it was only ok. we chose this ship to celebrate our Diamond wedding anniv on the day of departure (I was actually born on the day QM was launched) and its juicy itinerary. .having cruised about 120 times all around the world the three places that had most appeal were first timers for us Okinawa, Taiwan & Brunei persuaded us to pay up 16 months before cruise commenced. imagine our horror when we received an email on Xmas Eve cancelling all 3 ports of call---yes 2 weeks before boarding at Southampton with no offer of cancellation. the overall cruise was immensely disappointing and yes we feel it was poor value for what we paid (and are still paying the remortgage) entertainment was banal,repetitive & frankly boring.-- hygiene standards were abused, food in the Britannia was just acceptable, in the King`s Court unacceptable ,duplicate bridge (which interested me) was disorganised,chaotic and a shambles. embarkation at Capetown was as usual an utter disgrace, wine prices,excursion charges and quality were unjustifiable, port agents recommended by Cunard for emergency were unavailable all the issues were brought to the attention of senior staff on board and despite promises nothing was ever heeded. care for the infirmed in ports of call was non sympathetic..communication with Cunard is an established horror story and they confirmed this status to Maril & myself. they just ignore you knowing their ship will always be full because it is the QM2. the Purser, Mr Henry Wasserman, took devious measures to avoid even talking to us although we were spending 100 nights on board and were top category Cunarders.. we requested at booking for Southampton to Dubai quote. Cunard insisted for their convenience to divide this into 3 separate cruises which was more expensive and far more inconvenient for us. even the Hotel Manager Mr D Shepherd admitted this was totally unnecessary as he agreed that ourtreatment on board was way below standard a great disappointment overall with many special moments. if we can help anybody call us at marilbrian@btinternet.com Read Less
