for the Itinerary - I never did the Greek Islands before, so this time I tried to "link-up" NINE Cruise Segments, starting on 1st October in ATHENS and finishing on 8th December in DUBAI. There were several "double" Segments through some of the Greek Islands, which gave me the opportunity to visit Ports twice or more = so that was a good experience. Unfortunately, this Ship caters mainly for the Spanish Package Deal Market, so everything is in Spanish - some Shows are (Only) in Spanish, and some of the English Announcements are hard to understand..... Whenever I book, I always opt for the cheapest INSIDE Cabin, so even though I had booked the 9 Cruise Segments on the same day - there were NO Upgrades - in fact I had to change Cabins after every Segment. What "riled" me, was one night when I wanted to eat in the Main Restaurant and ordered my Meal with the Waiter, I requested some GREEN Vegetables to go with the Meal, to which the Waiter flatly refused - NOT AVAILABLE!!! So after such a negative attitude, I took my meals at the Buffet Restaurant, where I could "help myself" to whatever Vegetables were available, even though many times only COLD Green Vegetables were there on offer. Another Negative point was, that the Dinner Plates were COLD, sand the food presented was also only "warm" or Cold - so I asked the Chef's there to re-heat the plate???? Which is not saying much for the quality of the Food or the Service. AND, the "COMPULSORY" Gratuity charge came to about 1000 EUROS!!!! With such a mediocre Service - this was a total RIP-OFF!!! the No1 reason to write this review is a complaint - they have crushed my luggage, an expensive one I purchased for 350 dollars. After 4 months!!! of mailing back and forth, they would give me 100 EUR. This is not how you make returning and happy customers! I heard sorry "0" times, only to contact their central office, which is a pain, considering I had to spend time and money to buy a new one, as I was expecting to travel 1 more month in central america, which is pretty hard with a crushed luggage. Otherwise the ship is a bit old, holds well for it's age. Need to pay for water? On an all inclusive deal? Fruit juices are terrible 10% fruit content syrups. Bar staff's English is limited. On the plus side, dinner was remarkable, every night! Seriously, hats off, we always could chose from a menu, and all were great! with wine included. Read Less

I wished to return home to the UK by sea and trains. The date and itinerary were perfect and half the price of the ferry. Having read some of the reviews I was a little apprehensive but was proved wrong. The cabin, staff and food were all excellent. I have used other cruise lines before as a means of getting from A to B rather than a cruise holiday, so my requirements are different from the usual passengers. However, I am very critical if necessary. The atmosphere was very friendly and casual compared with lines like Cunard and P&O for example, which I prefer. I ate in the main restaurant every evening and found the choice and quality excellent, including vegetarian. The wine in the inclusive drinks package was high quality and unlimited. Embarkation and disembarkation were fast and smooth. I will definitely use this ship again if possible and will look out for future itineraries. Read Less

After taking a week's cruise at Christmas we were so pleased that we jumped at the chance to take this repositioning cruise from Las Palmas to our home in Malaga. The ship may be older with no bells and whistles but the itinerary, charm of the ship and the unsurpassed level of service made these two cruises some of the best we have experienced. The cabin may be a little dated but the ship is about to undergo a 3 week drydock in Cadiz so expect to see major improvements. Pullmantur clearly value this ship and it is kept in top condition. Food was outstanding in both the cafeteria and main dining room ... and did I mention that drinks are included!! Good brands are available on the basic package and if you are a brand snob then you can upgrade to a better package for only $10 per day. The entertainment was outstanding with dancers pulling 5 or 6 stunning production shows out of the hat every week!! We booked our cruises through a US agent and got outstanding bargains on both cruises. Read Less

18 days all inclusive from Malaga to the Caribbean sounded like a good idea at the time. When we arrived on the ship we had to go along a soaked carpet leading to our cabin, the cabin itself was not to bad until one of us decided we needed to use the toilet, not working, it was on and off like this for the whole cruise. The public toilets was also in the same situation it became a game of finding one that worked. At night we were kept awake for all but 3 nights by the horrendous sound of the engines, in the day when the ship picked up speed the noise quietened down so some sleep could be had. The dining room was well organised which is more than can be said for the food, breakfast were cold so was the tea and coffee, evening meal was just as bad poor selection, small quantities and cold. So many other people were complaining you had a long wait for your turn, people were so fed up with situation they took their bedding to reception and slept on the floor, the reception staff were very unhelpful and the captain was nowhere to be founds so all complaints fell on deaf ears. Basically the ship should never have started this cruise and I would suggest anybody thinking of going with Pullmantur think again. Read Less

There were 8 of us on this cruise, most of us being first time cruisers and I can tell you, it wasn't a great experience. As I had never been on a cruise before I had nothing to compare against but I do know that this ship was in no fit state to leave port. My first impressions on arriving on the ship was not great. We were given our cabin numbers to our rooms which seemed a good size and clean. The bathroom shower was very good although tiles etc was very tired looking but that was to be expected being an old ship I guess. Plenty of hanging and drawer space and good size bed. Wasn't pleased about having to put all toilet paper in the bin and not down toilet though. Later to find out why as the toilets would not flush on a regular basis. We were greeted with large air drying machines in the corridors to dry the soaking wet carpets From water leaks. Also leaks from ceilings with buckets under. The first night in our cabin was horrendous. We had been to the entertainment that evening and when we arrived late to our cabin we was faced with terrible noises and vibrations coming from beneath us, then realising we were right above the engines and propellers. Needless to say we had no sleep that night or the night after. We reported it to reception but they didn't seem interested and said that it was normal. My husband could not put up with the noise and went down to reception and slept on the floor as it was quieter and needed to sleep. I soon joined him and as I did reception found us a room for that night as they didn't want us to sleep in reception. This went on each night with us going to reception requesting another cabin to sleep in as they refused to move us permanently to a quieter room. Our poor friends were not so fortunate. The tap water was yellow in the bathroom but as we had no other water we had no choice but to brush our teeth in it. There was no free bottled water on the ship. There were maintenance men working in some of the cabins doing refurbs so there was very strong adhesive smells in the corridors as well as burning smells and noise from there disk cutters. The men were often in white over suits with masks on. This is what we were breathing in as well as the fumes from the diesel when the ship was refuelling. The food however was good. The menu choice in the second week changed in the formal dining which was not so good but by this time we had an option to eat in the other restaurant which was not open the first week due to flooding. The buffet was very good as you could pick what you wanted and a good variety. Waiter service could be slow but they were always friendly and polite. The air con in the restaurant was sometimes uncomfortably cold. Cabins were cleaned daily and bed made. Disorganisation and lack of information on the excursions and deporting procedures. Entertainment was not very professional but some nights was good. One of the entertainment halls were out of use second week as it was closed for private function so space was limited and you couldn't get a seat for a coffee or drink in the mocha bar after dinner and everywhere else was packed. Overall the cost of the cruise was very good but knowing what I now know, I would have paid more to have had a decent ship or not gone at all. Read Less

Enjoyed the cruise very much can't say the same for my fellow British passengers! We avoided them as much as possible. If moaning was in the Olympics we were cruising with a lot of gold medalists!OK the ship was tired looking and had a few problems with the public toilets but just get on and make the best of your holiday. After all they were only making themselves miserable by moaning.Thank god for the other nationalities on board. Yes it could be noisy but we found leaving the wardrobe doors open at night eased it and you soon got used to the background noise. We had one problem with the toilet in our cabin. It was reported on our way to dinner and it was repaired by the time we returned. Also if the public toilets were in high demand it only took a couple of minutes to return to our cabin. All of the ship was kept very clean.( even with fellow passengers leaving beer cans, plastic glasses and stubbing out cigarettes on the sun deck). The staff were immaculately dressed. On the whole our fellow passengers weren't!Thankfully we prefer to eat late so changed our dinner seating to second sitting. Most of the passengers on this sitting were Spanish and were dressed well and made an effort with their appearance. I walked every day around the decks and I was amazed to see so many people drinking alcohol at 11am.Later on in the day some were very rude to the staff. We spoke Spanish as much as possible! The food was superb.Only once did our food arrive warm not hot and that was before the two sittings were introduced.Lunch was very varied with a good choice. On the whole we enjoyed our holiday.Amazing value. The only thing we can complain about was the flight to Madrid.WAMOS AIR won't be getting our business again.Dreadful airline. Not once did they come round and offer water.I ended up disturbing a fellow passenger to get some. We would like to mention a special Thank You to our two waiters at dinner.JOSE FLORES and IMADE SUKADANA.Always cheerful nothing was to much trouble. Also Piedra? our maid who kept our cabin immaculate. Enjoyed visiting all of the ports. The entertainment was OK.Music in the lounge was very good. All of the service on board the Zenith was excellent and the staff superb, always polite, always smiling. Looking forward to going on our fourth cruise. Read Less

This past September 2016 I took a cruise on the Monarch with Pullmantur. The price was a great value and the cruise was worth every penny since I paid less than $600 for this cruise and it was a 15 day cruise. Was everything excellent? No, but for me the ship was comfortable the food was good and the staff were upbeat and nice to be around. The food at the buffet was very good and the dinner food in the dining room was good but my dining choices were limited, the menu never changed throughout the duration of the cruise (15- days) we had one menu to select from and the items on the menu were limited. My favorite hang-out was Schooner Bar was my favorite hang-out, it was right next to the Casino and the bar made excellent coffee - yum and the bar service was great. Would I take another cruise with Pullmantur? You betcha, yes, I sure would it's a great value. Read Less

We had an opportunity for a LONG vacation and needed to unwind before reaching Barcelona (for 3 weeks in Spain). We live on the Pacific side of Costa Rica (expat Americans) and it was very convenient to have friends drive us to Puerto Limon. The cruise on Pullmantur was less expensive than an economy flight to Barcelona and gave us 15 nights to relax on the crossing for just over $900 per person in the second best accommodations on the ship. This was a ship that could hold 1500 passengers and between Puerto Limon and the 1st of two stops, the Dominican Republic, only 80 (YES, EIGHTY!) people boarded. The crew was friendly and efficient. I believe there were 600 crew members making the ratio of crew to passenger 7.5 crew to 1 passenger. That was the ONLY good thing to say about this cruise. The ship was old; not very attractive; badly needed refurbishing; and not very well maintained. The dining service was great, but the food was a 1-star on a scale of 1 to 5. The menu offered steak and shrimp for an upcharge of $10 and $15 per person. It was otherwise bland, tough meat, sameness, and what one might expect from a not too good cooks kitchen. Only the pastry chef and bread baker were 3-4 star. If the ship had stabilizers they did not seem to be working, as walking through the hallways required holding on to the railings at all times during the Atlantic crossing. It appeared that this was a maintenance cruise as the banging continued as the rust was hammered off the metal for several hours every day. The temperature in the cabins could not be controlled and after several service calls I wound up sitting in my cabin with a sweater and wrapped in a down blanket to keep warm. I got a cold after a few days and spent the next few in bed. During that time, my husband was not allowed to carry even a cup of tea back to the cabin for me and room service would not deliver any hot beverages except at breakfast. Once we hit the Mediterranean (after 8 freezing days) it was warmer. The toilets on the ship worked on a system similar to that of a plane; some sort of air system. For at least 3 days the system was being repaired from first thing in the morning to 3 in the afternoon and there were NO WORKING TOILETS on the ship. No flushing toilets that is. And when the smell became bad enough "Out of Order" signs were placed on the public bathrooms of the ship. Thank goodness there were only 80 people! The sea was so rough that the outside decks were closed most of the time, along with the pool. The sea spray reached over our balcony onto the sliding doors of the veranda - and we were on deck 9! I am a smoker and could only smoke outside, which was, of course, impossible except at the back of deck 10, protected from the sea spray, but where most of the hammering continued from morning to night. The only smoking area on the INSIDE of the ship was a bar who only allowed passengers who had purchased their "supreme" beverage package! I had not since I don't drink at all. The entertainment on the ship was less than mediocre. There were two shows (both very unprofessional) and the rest of the nights were theme parties in the lounge sponsored by the ships entertainment crew. There was a Captain's Cocktail Party - strangely held AFTER dinner when everyone was already full. The second stop before we reached Barcelona was in Gibralter. The tour I had booked was canceled because there were not enough reservations. We were able to book the same tour with a tour vender on the dock for 1/2 the price the ship had charged and had a delightful time. With all of the above, there was never any apology - not even for the canceled excursions, broken AC or toilets! The staff at the front desk acted as if everything was in perfect order. It was surreal. All I can say about Pullmantur is although they are a division of Royal Caribbean, it's time to close them down and retire their lowest-end ships and cruises. I spent most days reading and wondering why we didn't fly, which would have given us an extra two weeks to spend for fabulous trip through southern Spain. My recommendation... STAY AWAY from a Pullmantur cruise. Read Less

First of all, I was not on vacation but traveling back home from The Caribbean. The ship itself was not that great except for the spacious cabin which was a nice surprise. There was no great entrance hall with glass wall elevators and marble stairs that I had seen on Empress before. But I can whole heartedly say that the staff made it up and much more! The service, attention and care on the boat were amazing. I am a young mother traveling alone with my two year old which is not always easy but with the experience with this boat and previously on Pullmantur's Empress, I can only recommend the cruise line! The food was not very good in the beginning but it got better along the way. The weather happened to be terrible but seeing my son being loved and attended by the staff and clientele and him having the time of his life this cruise has been one of the greatest travel memories for me. Note that you should know languages like Spanish or French to get the best of the cruise. The repositioning cruises are my thing and I will certainly go for more. Read Less

Previous reviewer of Horizon summed up the best description for this cruise line. If you dont go with your expectation too high, you will not only enjoy this old lady, but you will also enjoy her friendlyness and service. To summise: Food . Good in Resturant although can sometime be lukewarm, good in the buffet, always a good selection but again can be lukewarm. Seems a theme on this cruise line, maybe thats their way. My only reservation and its a very British reservation is that they are clueless on how to make tea. Ship. Old and Tired, in my opinion, not well maintained, carpets show signs of wear all over the ship and some are badly stained. Wood Decks on solerium by gym very rough, missing lots of corking and certainly not been polished and stained for a good few year, further up the ship wood deck has been replaced by astroturf like carpet. Entertainment: Having crossed the Atlantic on one of the big Royals a couple years ago and being extremely dissappointed with the entertainment, was surprised to find that the entertainment on Horizon was in fact quite good, the staff tried every night to put on a show that was different and entertaining and to which they mostly succeeded in doing. Overall a fine, entertaining cruise with good food and good entertainment and a freindly ship with some very good levels of service (and some poor) for a price that would put the bigger cruise line to shame. Although this ship is owned by Pullmantour (ultimately RCL) - sails in the colours of Croisieres de France - predominately French clientèle with French and some English announcements - almost all crew speak English well. Some English/US passengers, a few Russians but very much in minority. Olga - ships international rep very good indeed - speaks fluent English, Russian and Ukrainian Positioning cruise Saveurs et Decouverts - with wine and food experts on board. Very very good value for money as price was relatively low. Like this ship. Not too big - food good - inside cabin spacious. Struggled in storm on Bay of Biscay - late arrival in La Coruna and Gibraltar - stays shortened considerably which was annoying. Did not take ship's excursions. Entertainment ok - not quite as good as Costa (Magica cruise last Oct). Food better than Costa. Drinks package included in price - not all included - but enough to keep interesting. I would travel on again. Read Less
