We had been dedicated to the Princess Cruise line after a great experience with them. This 10-day, 3-port cruise was expected to be more of that same great experience. However, it was NOT! The food was horrible, the crew was in a bad mood/attitude and it showed. It was bad enough that we are probably going to cancel the cruise that we already had booked for 2020. Princess is no longer worthy of any attention. The low quality food extended to the formal dining room for dinner. They were unable to properly prepare any of the types of fish that they served (from one night to another). Terribly overcooked. Some nights we chose to skip it, due to the menu choices. Can you imagine Spaghetti being the featured special? Yes, that was their idea of fine dining. Princess cruise line has, in our view, dropped from Excellent, to Poor quality. They are no longer a good vacation option. Read Less

We chose the cruise due to hearing such great things about princess. There was absolutely nothing to do onboard besides shop... As two 30yr olds on our honeymoon it was completely boring on the days at sea. We found ourselves in our extremely warm cabin since the a/c didn’t seem to work. Even after complaining it still wasn’t fixed. Staff for the most part was great but doesn’t make up for the lack of things to do onboard. Food was excellent both in the dining room and in the buffet and restaurants. Entertainment was basically nonexistent unless you wanted to watch the same people play music all day or pay to play bingo. The ports were amazing. All of them were extremely beautiful. Although princess failed to offer many excursions that weren’t overpriced tours. Honestly very disappointed with princess and would definitely think twice before going on another princess cruise. First off there was nothing to do unless you are a trivia person and you need another useless bag or wine stopper that gives free advertising for the princess line. The Caribbean Princes was dirty my room had used bandages stuck to the balcony door handle. The computer system allowed my computer to get three viruses and even if you want to use your own server then leave your computer at home they block you so you cannot contact your family. Second if you are older or handicapped don't believe them that they will accommodate your needs both on the ship and on anyone of the excursions. They refused to loan or rent any of the 30 or 40 wheel chairs they have on board for an excursions but they will tell you that a rental will be available at the excursion sites. Don't believe them they are lying. This was the worst ship we have been on. The so-called entertainment staff had a Romanian woman who started yelling at everyone at a trivia game because she was missing one golf pencil and said we were not to take the pencils and papers until she gave them to us. This same woman refused to allow anyone to use the restroom when we were waiting to dis embark in the designated dining room. Also if you are diabetic don't go on any excursions because even though they tell you you will be able to get something to eat don't believe them and bring something. We went to Williamsburg and every thing was closed for the season. they even make you cross through an open field in the dark. I tripped over tree trunks and rocks because there was no light to see by and the tour guide was in such a hurry he would not slow down for those of us who were slower. Read Less

I will preface this review by stating I have been on over 28 cruises. I've sailed just about every cruise line out there or sold it while I was a travel agent. I Just returned from 18 days on the Ruby Princess. We boarded in Auckland, which was the last 8 night leg of the reposition cruise that started in Vancouver. We Stayed on for a continuation cruise of 10 days which did round trip Sydney. We had cruised on Princess twice in the past. Once in 2006 which was a great experience and again in 2010 which was not great! We had no idea what to expect from this experience. Unfortunately, it was a lot more not great than the one in 2010! This ship is just plain old and what I would call a rust bucket! There is no coat of paint that is going to make this sad ship up to what Princess claims it's standards are. The balconies are rusted out as well as all the sprinkler heads. Whenever I walked on the outer decks I looked up and saw rust. When we got a close up of the ships body while we were boarding the tenders, you could see just how horrible it was. There are tons of coats of paint chipping away, marks all over and just plain ugly. The cabin and deck furnishings are all very outdated and worn. There are two plugs in the entire cabin! One by the vanity and one up near the ceiling, above the corner cabinet. I heard many people complaining about the lack of places to plug phones and electronics. If you need a sleep apnea machine, be sure to bring a long extension cord because it has to travel quite a ways for a plug. The standard balcony cabin is about the smallest I've seen in the past 7 years or so. There is a vanity chair and that's it! I can't remember when I've been in a balcony cabin without a couch. This was the poorest choice I could have made for 18 days at sea. There was enough space in the closet and cabinet for all our clothes. The bathroom was the standard telephone booth size with cracked shower floors and moldy shower curtain. The shower head does not come off the wall so it made it that much more difficult to shower. We had not issues with the plumbing but many people on the Deck 12 were complaining about toilet issues and water being turned off for lengths of time. The cabin Stewards and Dining room staff were about the best I've seen at sea which is true to form for what Princess once was. They were always the most pleasant people on the ship. I will note that we did not get one towel animal which I guess is something they have stopped. Not a big deal at all, just something that surprised me. For the most part the Horizon buffet staff was also excellent. They attended to the tables and delivered drinks without ever having to ask. I did encounter a few of the food attendants that did not seem to like their jobs very well. I've been on other ships where they allow the guests to put their own toast through the toast machine so you can have hot toast. The Carnival products seem to think we are not capable of toasting our own bread so they have a person on each side of the buffet just running toast through the machine. They toast giant stacks of bread and then bring them to the warming trays. For 15 days I had rubber toast! On the 16th day I asked for hot english muffins out of the toaster. You would have thought that woman was going to have to go in the basement, bake the muffins then toast them. She kept telling me the toast in the bins was fresh and I needed to take it from there. This annoyed me more than most other issues we had. It was a simple request that I made very nicely. This is one of the main reasons I will not choose to EVER cruise on Princess again. Sounds unreasonable, but everyone has their breaking point! There was not a person that we met in the 18 days that did not agree with us that the food was terrible. Sauces were heavy and over salted. One comment I kept hearing was "there is a whole lot of brown food on that buffet!" Everything was swimming in a sauce. Many of the carving meats were over cooked and dry. They served various kinds of flat fish every day but they were prepared everyday the same way, drowned in butter or oil. The buffet breakfast was just a disgrace. The way they prepared that food was a crime. They would have trays of fried eggs on a warming dish for hours. They were dried out to the point of feeling like hockey pucks. You couldn't find one egg with a running yoke. The same thing with the eggs Benedict. They were all hard boiled....every single day! It really is a sin that they destroyed so much good food. The scrambled eggs were all chopped up so small it was like eating cottage cheese. The only saving grace was the omelet station. You needed lots of time for that though! They had no cream at all for the coffee. It was all skim or regular milk. Just about everything was so budget and you could tell. The specialty steak restaurant was a joke. If that was supposed to be like a fine steakhouse, they missed that mark by a mile. I got a steak that was less than 1/2" thick and tasted like a salt lick. I specifically asked for little to no seasoning, but that was something they just paid no attention to. The baked potato was dry and like a rock. The whole experience was horrible. The regular dining room food was hit or miss. Some nights they would have a decent amount of choices, none of which were tasted that great. Most nights there were no choices we would eat. They did NOT have a steak on the "every night" menu. I have never been on a cruise where you could not get a steak in the dining room every night if you choose. At the bottom of the menu they have choices of good food for an extra cost of between $20 to $40. That's something I've never seen before either. It's like, if you want good food, you will now have to pay extra for that. If it was anything like the steakhouse, it wouldn't be worth it anyway. I can't imagine paying extra for any of the crap they served. The entertainment was not too bad on the 8 night Auckland to Sydney part of the cruise. Once they changed over to and "Australian" cruise line (all the money went to aud) for the Sydney round trip, the entertainment went right down the tubes. It was horrible. The singers were ancient, the comedians were old and Princess dancers would have a hard time performing on the stage with the Norwegian cruise staff. The best part of any of the entertainment was the games shows, etc. put on and run by the cruise director and staff. However, they held them all in rooms that were too small so if you did not get there at least 30 minutes ahead of each even, you were not going to get a seat. Many nights our dinner ran late and we could not go to an event because we could not sit. The worst part of the entire cruise was the fact that almost all the ports in Australia are tender ports. Princess is either too cheap or too stupid to have gotten large ferries in all the ports. They had a system where you went down to a showroom at a time they announced in the morning to get a number to get off the ship on to a tender that would take you to a port. If you are an elite member, no problem. They take all elite members off first. If you have a million dollar tour that you purchased through Princess they took you off on the tenders first as well. If you just wanted to go to shore or booked your own excursions through viator or other wholesaler you were out of luck for getting off that ship in less than 2 hours. In one port we were unable to get off the ship until 11:30am. We arrived in port at 7:00am!!! It was ridiculous. One day many people never even got off the ship. By the time their number was called they felt it was too late to get off. The tenders took about 40 minutes each way on most the stops. Finally, after many angry shouting matches, there were Ferry tenders in two of the stops. It still took forever to get off, but at least we didn't miss our excursion. By the way, something we noticed was they NEVER looked at your tender number! The average shore excursion cost over $175 per person and that was for a 4hour tour. Most tours were 8 hours or more and cost in excess of $275. Princess was charging $479pp for The alpine express excursion from Christchurch to Arthur's pass. It included a bus from the port to Christchurch which was about an hours drive. The train, if purchased directly costs $149.00!! This is just robbery. Princess gets away with it because they scare the life out of everyone by telling them if you don't take a Princess cruise, you might miss the boat on the return. Many tour operators will guarantee to get you back to the ship on time or get you to the next port if you miss the boat because of them!!! Look around and compare! This cruise ship staff created so many situations where guests were made to wait in lines and get angry. They didn't even have an organized line at the guest services. Many days people started yelling and fighting because guests would just walk up to the counter and ignore the lines. I've never seen a ship run more poorly than this one. When they turned over to the Australian Dollar from US Dollars in Sydney, no one at the front desk knew how to convert the currency. I was given an amount and then called in my room to come back to the guest services because they gave me too much money.....that was after it took them over an hour to figure out what they did give me. It took over 4 days for them to get most of the casino slot machines up and working after departing from Sydney. I couldn't imagine how much money they lost because there were no machines to play. It was just crazy. I'm not sure who is responsible for most of what goes on aboard that ship, the Captain or headquarters but someone should be fired! Read Less

Age group 50-85. Disembarkment process very early. Shops with expensive prices. Atrium is a small hole in the vessel. Elevators are old and dirty. Not sailing again with a Princess. The staff seem to agree that Royal Princess have higher standards in food, cleanliness and ship entertainment. The cocktails were very overpriced. Coffee tasted like water, looked muddy. Tea was better option. Same breakfast menu every single day. Buffet posts and glass were extremely dirty. Staff around ship couldn’t answer badic questions, but gave honest responses, “sorry, I can’t answer that, maybe someone else knows”!!! I would spend a few hundred more and get a better experience with an alternate cruiseline. Many seniors with books in hand and ready for relaxation. Read Less

Elite member of Princess, have always enjoyed our experiences but not this time. First time I have found that I wish we had not gone at all. Embarkation was fine, cabin, while old was good except ONE plug that worked. Dining, found the food in the dining room OK but very little variety and I very much resented that I could not get brewed coffee on my coffee card until I either sent a poor server out to find it as it was not available at the Horizon Court either..Oh well, what you got was not very good anyway. Entertainment-- write that off, two male singers, two female singers, two shows and I believe there was someone who told jokes.....very little variety . That plus there were so many people coughing at times they were hard to hear. Service, lots of service people all who were very good at their jobs BUT especially in the Horizon Court I felt that more effort should have been made to disinfect the chairs, salt and pepper shakers and to keep the food area cleaner and the hand washers filled and to encourage people to use them. Shore Excursion people not nice to deal with, rude at times. Read Less

We chose because, although this would be my first cruise. the other three people had previous good experiences with Princess. However, all four of us will NEVER sail with Princess again. From booking on there were problems. We were misled on the use of on board credits; our free premium drink package was not honored until we proved it was legit; food was lukewarm on the buffets while the plates were scalding hot. One real danger to passengers: Princess is very misinformed about passport use. They claimed passports did not need to be carried with you off the ship, and were totally ignorant of when a passport needs to be stamped at entry. Almost got us arrested following their advice. Luckily, quite by accident, we met a Spanish immigration official in Barcelona who gave us the real information. But the real problem was with shore excursions. Be forewarned, Princess will not come to your aid if something goes wrong. Our tour guide went rogue. During the "kidnapping", I tried to call Princess. No phone numbers worked. Their offices were not open. When I finally got someone and gave all the info, including the location, tour number, my name, and all contact info, they hung up and failed to call back. Then for the next five days, they attempted to bury the incident. They never investigated. I forced their hand, and had meetings with all levels of management, including the captain, who took no responsibility and claimed that Princess would never cover up any incident. BTW, after this horrendous experience, I could not leave the ship due to panic attacks until we got to the end of the cruise. I was a prisoner in a billion dollar jail. All Princess staff claimed that no cover up was going on. They never investigated, even 30+ days later and never tried ANYTHING to help. They endangered my life and the lives of 40 other passengers, and showed nothing but neglect and indifference. Keep in mind that Princess Cruises was just fined $20 million dollars for covering up dumping waste in the Caribbean over a five year probationary period by falsifying records and lying during inspections. So the bottom line is: Princess just wants to cash in, and anything else can be bought off, even the health and safety of its passengers. Read Less

My father died during the cruise and I needed to amend my travel arrangements. The front desk staff were terrible and it took over 3 days to sort new departure arrangements. I received conflicting information from onboard Front desk staff and onshore Princess staff. Princess gave no credit for existing return flight and I had to pay for a new full fare that was exchanged from Aust$ to US$ to NZ$. The air carrier advised my family that Princess as travel agent had full discretion in making no or little penalty charges to travel. No discretion was applied. I would not recommend Princess on this basis. There was relentless onboard promotion for buying jewellery (Effy) and artworks which was tedious. Food was good and plentiful, entertainment was a bit ho hum - one comedian was absolutely dreadful and the second relied on old hack and tired women-as stupid content. There were two production shows which were excellent. Musicians played similar and in a lot of cases the same songs (how many times can you listen to Hey Jude?!) Onboard activities were limited with the same things recycled through the cruise - movies (same movies returned too frequently); bingo; quizzes (I'm a quiz fan but the same format and type of questions were used across three quiz events, and the events were bumped in face of venue conflict); demonstrations such as cocktail making was view only. Cards as an activity was good (bridge; 500) as there were a fair number of people interested therefore plenty of opportunity to play. However this was organised by participants. I feel entertainment staff often opted out of organising activities, so it dependent on participants to get things going. Venues appeared to be mismanaged in that the act and or audience size wasn't appropriate to the particular venue used. Enrichment activities were limited to forensic topics (potentially good however presenter was poor and used promotional material as evidence) and others were directly linked to the sale of jewellery and artworks. Did two excursions - whole day Moorea swimming and snorkeling which was excellent and the LA Venice Beach and Santa Monica visits. Definitely wouldn't recommend Venice Beach as a destination (old; tired; dirty; broken; grotty) but Santa Monica was nice to walk around (shops; pier; beach) Read Less

The Bad : Ship shakes under sail and unbelievably worse in port, especially annoying when you are dining. Common areas good condition but we had hit and miss cabins this fall and winter, some ok and some awful condition. Ship staff said they can’t update the rooms without a dry dock and the company keeps putting that off. Personally had and witnessed some negative interactions with the Guest Services Staff. As typical of the brand no built in activies for active adults and children. Just off a Christmas cruise on another ship of the brand, many families cruising and the young people were bored out of their minds. Royal Caribbean, Carnival or Norwegian would have been a better choice for a family vacation. The Good: The company has invested in Internet upgrades for this ship. Room and Dining staff generally excellent as is usual throughout the brand. Food quality and selection was on par with the brand and far superior to Royal Caribbean. Read Less

We went on this cruise because of the ports visited. We were on the ship for 28 days. My husband and I have been on 50 cruises and have never been so disgusted with a cruise line. It is now on the bottom of my rating list. Ship leaked badly, very rude and arrogant crew. No customer service. Food bad. Dining room staff impossible. Cabin location(mini-suite) where 6 decks and bridge above could look on your balcony. Entertainment venue was always full 1 hour before entertainment began. If you were not there early you stood or sat on the floor in the aisle. Not perks for Captain's Circle members. Tv in cabin had no programming for account, movies, remote very limited. Chose this cruise as the itinerary was just what we wanted. Some of the South Pacific ports were disappointing, but loved all those in New Zealand and of course our final destination of Sydney. Ship is old, Horizon Buffet lacks variety and food tasteless, main theater much too small to accommodate the passengers, poor management such as running out of specific wines at the bar, plumbing and water system had problems, although dining room food was good the menu selections weren’t....ship needs to be retired. For a repositioning Cruise they did not offer afternoon entertainment or lectures as other cruise lines do. The Golden Princess biggest asset was their crew. They were professional, polite and very accommodating...with a few exceptions. Did not take any ships tours, so cannot comment. We choose this cruise solely based on it's itinerary. We had read previous poor reviews about this ship but Princess stated that all had been corrected. They lied. There are still garbage smells in public areas. Outside aft elevator lobby on 7th deck for one. There are still mild smells in corridors throughout the ship.Problems started with embarkation. There was only one person taking in baggage. He would fill a cart, disappear for awhile to unload the cart and then return to start the process over again. This took forever with only one person. Once aboard we then observed many unsatisfying problems. The bird poop on our balcony furniture was disgusting and made us avoid meals there. There are only 2 aft elevators reaching the 17th deck. One was inoperative for the first week of the cruise. The moving stairway from the 17th deck to Skywalker lounge operated one day of the 20 day cruise. The food selection in the main dining room was the worst selection that I have experience in many years of cruising. The buffet (where we wound up most nights) was not much better. The quality of the food was below average. The library had a selection of about 2 dozen books total. There were water leaks through out the ship with areas roped off and buckets underneath. the theater had water pouring in streams from the ceiling. This is the only ship I have experienced with real ice cream only at dinner. The ice cream bar only serves soft serve cones. The Princess Patter was often wrong and incomplete. It would certainly be nice to include a short description of the evening shows. The enrichment program was a joke The theme was considering retirement and what to expect and plan for. Great topic except about 80% of the passengers were already retired. I am sure that someone at Princess has heard about the adverse health effects of second hand smoke. To get to the main entrance of the theater, it is necessary to pass through the smoke filled casino. Doors usually opened 1 hour before theater performances. This is great for handicapped people. Unfortunately, too many times the doors opened 10 to 20 minutes early leaving the handicapped standing and waiting. It was necessary for handicapped to arrive early in order to get suitable seating. Many events were conducted in the Piazza with no seating. They could at least set up some folding chairs. There were too many overlaps of one time performances so you day to choose one or the other. The theater entertainment was just plain poor. Way too much rock and roll for a 70+ average audience. Many people walked out each night. The resident ship performing troop only did 2 shows in 20 days. Actually, one was good. Again, the other was not suitable for the audience. The only positives about this cruise were our cabin attendant and we got to New Zealand. Albeit, after a several hour stop at sea one day to check out new equipment on board. Why couldn't they do this at night when people are sleeping? I am sure that other problems existed, but there were too many to remember. Read Less

I will start with the positives - disembarkation at Sydney was fast and efficient. That's the positives taken care of! So now the ship and the cruise! The ships main problem is too many passengers and not enough public areas - so it is ALWAYS busy and finding a seat is not easy. Embarkation took over 3 hours for most people thanks to total disorganization at the port. At meal times with any time dining we were given a buzzer and told to come back when it buzzed - 40 minutes later it buzzed, so any time dining doesnt mean any time you want to dine, it means any time they want to seat you. The dining room was not full, they kept a lot of tables empty! Entertainment. What entertainment? In over 3 weeks there were just THREE stage shows with the singers and dancers and the rest of time they had VERY mediocre performers - for example an Asian Harmonica player had the first nights show in the theater and you have to ask yourself how entertaining could half an hour of a Harmonica player be? I will give you a hint, people were walking out after one tune and by the 4th more had left than remained! He also performed in other areas across the ship for the next week or so and the other artists that featured from then on were about as 'good'! The on board singing group were totally lacking in enthusiasm and ability. There is NO promenade deck! NEVER been on a ship without a deck to sit on and walk around the entire length of the ship - but Majestic doesn't have one. WHO on earth approved THAT design error? The coach supplied for our one Princess shore tour was old and smelled of petrol. We had trouble hearing the guide over the noise of the engine when it idled and the trip ended in a smelly awful market having driven past the beautiful shops of Orchard Road in Singapore. When our Mini suite balcony door was open, there was a hideous howling sound which made it impossible to leave it open at night. The noise was pointed out to the cabin steward on the first morning and yet was not fixed till the 18th day!! Our cabin was rarely cleaned before lunch and our friends cabin had a continuous smell of stale urine from day 1. This on a relatively NEW ship! Wines ran out long before the cruise ended and the one remaining red wine by the glass, a nasty, inferior and over priced drop was desperately offered from that point on. The wines werent even restocked when we made landfall. So many people tried to use the laundry to get tokens for the machines, but more often than not it charged their cruise card and didnt deliver tokens. I waited 40 minutes in the laundry for someone who I was told 4 times was on their way to arrive before giving up! An Elite member, who have their washing done for them as part of their loyalty program, was using the laundry on one occasion when I was there because she said it had taken FIVE days for her wash to come back when they sent it for the service wash - so much for loyalty. Having previously cruised with Princess we looked forward to the usual facilities and service and found neither up to their usual standard. The balcony on Majestics Mini Suite is substantially smaller than their other ships and despite the ship being less than two years old it felt shabby. When advised of the problems we had experienced, Princess offered us a pathetic $250 each towards a future cruise in compensation, which we turned down as it is clear Princess has lowered its standards across the board and none of their ships will be as they once were. So in closing, avoid Majestic Princess at all costs. AVOID Princess or severely lower your expectations because they are heading down the same road as their partner P & O. Read Less

Spent 22 days on the Majestic and wish we had not spent a single night on board. The boarding was hell, the food wasnt very good and the any time dining simply didnt work out. Unless we ate at 5.45 we would have to wait ages for a table even though they werent all full. The entertainment was so bad we only went to 5 shows over the entire three weeks and the Princess cruise dancers and singers only performed 3 times over the entire period. What a joke on a cruise ship. So many things didnt work as they should it is hard to remember them all. Several types of wine ran out and werent replaced even when we docked. The laundry token machines were always empty but still charged our cabin for the tokens we didnt get. Our room was only clean on the surface and was never tidied till lunch time each day - obviously the cabin steward had too many cabins to look after - probably due to a shortage of staff. The balcony door impersonated moaning minnie or a howling Banshee when it was open forcing us to keep it closed and make the extra payment for a balcony over an ocean view a total waste. Despite all that, Princess thought the problems we had had were worth $250 in future cruise deposits for each of us but if we wanted to accept their offer, we would have had to write back to them 16 days before they sent us the offer. This was my first cruise with Princess and as a result of my experience, it will definitely be my last. Prior to booking, I had this impression that Princess was an elite cruising brand. I expected more of them than I would a Carnival, Norwegian or Royal Caribbean cruise line. I could not have been more wrong. Let's start with the PROS since its a short list. PROS: Embarkation - Princess is very organized. I was on the ship in less than 20 minutes from my arrival to the pier. I have NEVER gotten on a ship that fast before. There was no haggling to buy onboard packages and no pressure to take pictures. It was the most quickest, easiest embarkation I have ever experienced. Shore Excursions - I really liked that while the Excursions desk was not always manned that they had iPads at the desk so I could book excursions during their non-operating hours. I struggled whether to add this to the CONS list really, because the Excursions desk was closed before and during our sail away period, but I do like that I had this as an option. I like to book my excursions as soon as I get on the ship. I later learned I could have booked them in my room via the TV. Entertainment - I really enjoyed some of the musical talent on this ship. I learned of some new artistic gems like George Thursting that I now follow through social media. Love them. Folks, that's where my PROS list ends. Let's dive into everything that made this cruise horrible and left me vowing to NEVER cruise with Princess again. CONS: Bed Bug (in Room B249) - I usually don't sleep much, if at all, the night before a cruise, because I am busy packing and getting my house (and life) prepared for my extensive departure, so I usually make up for that sleep the first night on the ship. This cruise was no exception. I grabbed a bite to eat and booked my excursions once I got on board and I headed straight to my room to snooze. After we set sailed, I got up to grab something out of my bag and when I returned to the bed I noticed what looked like a bed bug crawling over the duvet cover. I screamed! I ran outside where the cabin steward was. He came in looking embarrassed, but not surprised, and scooped the bug into a glass jar. I was mortified. All I could think was how grateful I was that I had not unpacked yet. I did NOT want to take any of these critters home with me. I hear bed bugs are horrible to get rid of. I went straight to the reception desk to report it. Its the first night, so there's a long line. I patiently wait. When I get to the line, the service desk rep (Ignacio and Aracelli) said there was not much they could do besides send someone to investigate and clean the room since the ship was sold out. They did not offer me some place to sit or rest at during this 2-hour investigation. They did not offer me a complimentary beverage or meal. They did not apologize for the inconvenience. They did nothing, but "investigate." I stood on the side of the reception desk for 2 hours exhausted. I finally got back in line to see if there was an update, since NO ONE spoke to me during those 2 hours and only after I got back in line did someone call to check on the "investigation" and that's when I was told they were done and they did not find anything else (meaning another bug). For all I know, the investigation could have been completed an hour earlier. I return to my room alone. Visibly shaken, they did not offer to escort me to my room to reassure me and show me their findings. No one was there when I arrived. It was hours later when the cabin steward supervisor and my cabin steward returned to tell me the supervisor found nothing. I asked if I would be able to get checked by medical - something the front desk rep said I would be able to get as a courtesy to check for bed bug bites - and the supervisor told me NO. He said the ship doctor is not like a doctor on land, they're expensive, so I would have to pay for this myself. Um... OK! I was done after this. Done. He treated me like I was an inconvenience. Very hostile. I never unpacked my bag. I kept it closed the entire cruise and I checked my room for bed bugs each and every day. I tried not to let this ruin my trip cuz then I would definitely be on the losing end. I tried to make the best of it. Ship - Its old. Real old. Very dated. There's rust, mildew and mold everywhere. While I stood in line at the guest desk, I noticed there were multiple leaks from the ceiling. Also, the layout makes no sense. They give each deck a name. For example: Deck # 11 is named Baja and Deck # 15 is named Lido. Instead of referring to the deck number, you had to learn the deck names, because that is how they were referenced. It was so cooky. Then there were only so many elevator banks. I believe there were three or four for the entire ship and one or two of those only went to a few floors. There were no machines for people to add money to their room card/key. Everything went through the very incompetent guest desk. And they had to escalate everything. No one at the desk could make a decision at their level. No one was empowered to just do common sense things for guests. While I waited for my bed bug investigation, I heard a man with Platinum Level Status get upset over his beverage package and how someone screwed it up. I stood there thinking: If this guy is a loyal Princess cruiser and they treat him like that, how should I expect them to treat me? Not good, folks. Not good. Dining - I actually like the seating in the buffet dining areas. I liked that there were pub seating that looked directly out the window, so if you're a party of one you're only taking one seat and not an entire table. That's where my likes end. The food options were very limited and buffet small. It was about one-third of the size of the buffet area on the average Norwegian ship. Horrible! I made due, but I was just shocked. In Conclusion: The pros definitely did not outweigh the cons. I cannot justify the cost of the average Princess cruise for me to try the brand again. Outside of wanting to experience the Princess brand, I really chose this sailing because it was going to the ABC islands and it was full of smart at sea days. Heed my warnings. If nothing else, stay away from this ship unless you've cruised it before and know what to expect. Read Less

If I could rate it minus 10 I would. This was our first cruise experience and likely the last. Ship is small and is layed out poorly. Food is just BAD! Its like an ant hill trying to get around. Most of the staff cannot speak English, nor answer any questions. Princess screwed up my airfare TWICE. Their computer system is CONSTANTLY going down. The entertainment was sub par. The entire loading unloading process is a disorganized mess, and they dont care. You DO NOT get a value for your money. The only positive thing I was surprised at the size of our stateroom, it was fair sized. This was what they called a repositioning cruise, which translates to princess wants to get as much money as possible out if their patrons as possible and make money to move the ship to a new area for tour season. I will NEVER recommend princess. Every positive thing I was ever told about cruises was Not what we experienced. Read Less

Sailed with a group of 16 friends which included spouses and kids. The group had fun spending time together however, the service was not acceptable. With a few exceptions, the crew was rarely engaged, inattentive, uninterested, poorly trained and just not friendly. More like mindless robots rather than highly trained friendly helpful crew. This seemed rather unusual as I've always had a great experiences on other cruises: Royal Caribbean, Holland America and Celebrity. Their crew are typically cheerful and engaged and helpful with their patrons. I found this rather surprising as it wasn't just one or two problem crew members but the majority were like that. It was the strangest experience. Food quality was fine. We usually went to the dining room or buffet. Selection at the buffet could have been better. The food quality there was solid at both places. Public washrooms were filthy. This was my first and last cruise with Princess. There are too many other options out there for me to want to give Princess another try. Read Less

From embarcation in Shanghai, where no one from princess could be found. You had to shove and push your way for over 500 metres inside terminal. People in wheelchairs pushing there luggage through the terminal with not even 1 staff member from princess to even tell you you where in the right terminal! No queues, just passengers pushing and shoving. The captain blamed the late arrival of the ship. The real reason, princess crew to lazy to help, and couldn’t be bothered to send anybody to take luggage on outside of terminal , staff to help people to properly que up, or just to direct people to right terminal! Most passengers only found the right terminal because they went to terminal 1 where another ship was embracing passengers. I have to tell you that the 3 terminals are probably 1 kilometre apart!. We took 3 1/2 hours to board, others took up to 5 hours to board. This ship was a nightmare. Don’t be fooled. This ship has no public space to the amount of people she carries. Everywhere you go there are no seats to sit. On sea days you que for everything, from a cup of coffee, which takes more than 1/2 an hour, then you can’t find a seat to sit down..The grand class ship has double the public space than this ship. The food suffers the same problem, they can’t handle cooking for over 5000 thousand every meal. The food in the main dinning rooms and the buffet is very poor quality. Ships have gotten bigger, prices have come down, something has to give? If you cruised 15 years ago, and compare with what you get now. It’s like night to day! The service is exactly the same. How do they find staff for all these ships there building each year. Most of the staff don’t speak English which is a bit of a problem when most of your customers only speak English. The ques at the customers service desk for the first 5 days had to be seen to be believed. They weren’t there to say how good a job they were doing! My balcony door was broken and couldn’t get it to open. It took 3days and several phone calls to staff who barely spoke English, for them to come to fix the door. After reading the reviews on cruise critic about this ship, princess should be ashamed to have this ship in there fleet. To anyone who think this was a good ship, you need to wake up, don’t listen to there crap about how good they are, which they drum into you from the moment you walk on. This cruise is a nightmare! We chose this cruise for the Itinerary. Unfortunately the captain canceled Oregon port due to weather and said they would sail straight to Nanaimo from San Francisco. The service on this ship was really lacking, compared with previous cruises we have been on. The staff do not seem to be happy or enjoy what they are doing, with the exception of a few. Light fixtures in hallway dripping water, so we had to step over a soaked/stinky carpet outside our door. We mentioned to our steward & showed him, he just said he knew & had made someone aware but no one comes to fix it. It left us wondering if that's what we can quiet visible see, then what can't we see. Lost luggage that we had to find ourselves. Pre-paid room order had to be called for 4 times over 3 hours before it arrived. Sewer smell came & went for the 3 days we were onboard, we disembarked at San Fransciso on the 3rd of 7 nights! This was a repositioning cruise right after dry dock. Embarking was delayed for inspections. The passengers were told to wait in the terminal....except the terminal was FULL so they moved more people to a different terminal. We sat outside on a bench for 3 hours with no water or facilities. When we were permitted inside another wait. Got to our room and asked our room steward for a wedge for the head of the bed. He didn't know what we were talking about so he asked his housekeeping supervisor who also had no idea. We met the Hotel Manager, Carlo, at the Cruise Critic meet and greet and asked him for some help. finally got what we needed after the first night. At dinner, for an apology by the captain and offered a FREE wine or beer. I asked for a diet coke instead and was told there would be a charge for the diet coke. Remember beer and wine were FREE. Our assistant waiter was a disaster, our poor waiter needed to do both jobs. She couldn't carry the food from the kitchen to the dining room so the waiter carried 10 meals, she carried 3. The drinks were never refilled, the tables were not cleared. She just stood around. As an elite, we get free laundry. We put the laundry in 4 days before disembarkation in Barcelona. We hadn't got the closes back, so we were forced to go to the laundromat because we ran out of clean clothes. We screamed and hollered for our laundry to be returned so that we could pack. The WET laundry was returned at 9:30PM.....and we still had to pack. The best part of this cruise was disembarking...This is only a few of the problems we encountered Read Less

We chose this Cruise on the Crown Princess because of the variety of ports for 25 days. It had just come out of dry dock and full of problems...leaks in many places, laundry facilities not working, vibrations, late and unprepared check-in and the worst selection of food lacking any imagination. The hallways had ripped wall paper, the cabin carpeting was old and the ship had an elevator that had water leakage, so it was closed most of the cruise. The entertainment was very good. However, there was boring lectures during the day; no exciting topics. The manager of the Customer Relations was very rude to several people when they were upset about the laundry facilities not working. When we expressed our problems with this cruise, the Captains Club manger said "You should have booked a newer ship". The theater on the ship was too small and filled. In order to get a seat, you had to be there 1/2 hour early. The fitness activities were lacking classes. The shore excursions from the ship were above average tour guides.Thank goodness for Cruise Critic...we were able to sign up ahead of time for duplicate bridge games and everyone was so kind. My husband and I travel quiet often. Love cruises but this one was the worse. We booked the 25 days, Ft. Lauderdale - Rome. Bad from the start. We were notified to be at the terminal at 2 PM., so we did. They had us sitting on very uncomfortable chairs until 6 PM. Had no idea why, never a reason, never an apology. The next day, the Captain offered us a free glass of wine (cheap one) for the inconvenience. The story continues: Will not get on a Princess ever again. Except for 3 days, the food at the main restaurant was "cafeteria quality". Juice and regular coffee only free during breakfast hours. After that, $$$$. We had a mini-suite D202, and for one whole week, we kept reporting that the bathtub was clogged. It took one week to repair it. The quality of the soap, shampoo, etc, provided was terrible. We had to buy toiletries at the first port we touched. They had the worse entertainment ever and on booked excursions, on each one, they made us wait on the designated meeting place for one and a half hour before moving on. They even played some video clips (advertisement) to keep us calm. You get up at 6 AM to be there on time and then, they waste 2 hours of our time with no explanation. We purchased the maximum Internet plan. I believe is 600 minutes, well, we consumed all of them TRYING to connect to the system. The worse Internet system I have experienced on a ship. We feel that they had no respect for the passengers. NEVER AGAIN. By the way, we paid for a balcony mini suite. D202. Read Less

We take two cruises a year with Princess, and are members of the Elite Status in the Captains Circle, and we liked the Trans-Atlantic Cruise we took last year so we decided to take this one because it was going to Ports we never been to before. I turned out to be the wrong decision since this ship had problems from the very start. Coming out of dry dock, we expected a sparkly clean ship ready for a lot of cruises. The ship had rust over many places on the outside hull, our room wasn't clean, carpets were being replaced during the cruise in the common areas and you could smell the adhesive so we avoided those common areas, our room needed to have the carpet replaced it was stained so badly and air freshener doesn't cover old dirty smells in the room, we sent laundry of the cleaners and the clothes came back with dark spots on the clothes and the clothes smelled terrible. We like to sleep with the balcony door open at night, but the door between our balcony and a neighbor's balcony banged all night so we closed our door, but then the air conditioner with it set to the lowest level didn't cool the room down. The walls in our room creaked all night and the bathroom door did the same. The new beds were nice, but we couldn't get a good night sleep for the whole cruise. My room key had to be replaced 3 times during the cruise and the staff at the Purser's desk went from being helpful to rude for myself and other passengers who went up to get our keys redone. I stood behind one passenger that had a key problem as well as complaints about their toilet not working for the first 3 days of the cruise and they had to use public restrooms. The man wanted another room and the person at the Purser's desk told him "We can't change anyone's room just because they don't like their room". The mats in the gym were so worn out that people put pool towels on top of them to cover the worn spots. Since we cruise enough with Princess, we get to know their menu's for dining and it seems they don't change them. The menu's had the same thing each night starting with the first night to the last night that we've had for the last four years worth of cruising. Horizon Court isn't that great of an option. We feel the food there on this ship as well as other ships has gone downhill for some time. My wife even got a rancid muffin one morning in the Horizon Court! We don't go on cruises to eat hamburgers and pizza, but we choose to eat those items since at least they were consistent. The positives were the staff from the Lotus Spa were the best group we've ever had and the water we drank was great. Those two items don't negate the other negatives from this cruise. It's sad when you have to claim drinking water as being a highlight of your cruise. We always put a deposit down for our next cuise and we didn't this time. We just feel that Princess is starting to have too many issues beginning with maintenance like their parent company Carnival. We contacted Princess' customer service about all of the issues we had on this cruise and when the representative called me about everything he clearly didn't like hearing from someone who cruises a lot with them about all of the problems we experienced. His offer to us to make us happy was a $150.00 per person credit on our next cruise. Maybe Princess feels that is satisfactory. We felt it was insulting. I wasn't expecting a free cruise, but an offer of booking an inside cabin with a no charge upgrade to a balcony plus some dollar credit would have been acceptable. We've cruised a number of other lines and know what to expect from them. We'll take our dollars over them next time since Princess Lost Us! Read Less

This was the worst cruise we have been on in over 60 cruises. The ship was in Dry Dock and when it came out it really was not ready for guests. When we reached our cabin we found some ones excrement in the bowl in our bathroom. When we told our cabin person he told us he had let guest services know about it and that the bowl would not flush in the morning, and they still had not taken care of it. We waited about an hour till it was taken care of, but no one came to sanitize it. We will be getting in touch with the CDC about this situation. They really had no idea who came to the muster drill, the scanner was not working, and no one took cabin numbers, putting everyone on board in danger in the event of real trouble at sea. We went to dinner and when we came back my wife went in for a shower, when she came out of the shower she realized there was no towels or robes in the bathroom, just the bath mat. I called down for towels 3 times, it took close to an hour before they were brought to the cabin. my wife dried herself with the bath mat. We had no air conditioning For the first two days they said it was fixed but it was not. We had to have someone work on our bowl in the bathroom 3 or four times. The same with the air conditioning. The first 7 days of this 14 day cruise where pure hell, the second 7 days where better. We sent food back more times on this cruises then we have in our 60+ cruises before this, and so did our table mates. We have 3 more Princess cruises booked, and are about to cancel them! Read Less
