Have been aboard the Crown Princess a few times. She seems a tired old tub with an increasingly uninterested service crew. Paint fumes sent allergies into overdrive and I spent the entirety of cruise coughing, choking, and feeling ill. Do not spend US$40 on the "Magen's Bay Scenic drive". Grab a taxi and save your money for the gouging you will take when you get to the concession at Magens's Bay. Chair and umbrella rental are DYI, unless you provide a compulsory "tip" of US$5 to the shysters standing by the equipment. Driver dropped us off with no instruction and nowhere near chair concession. Entertainment is also tired! When a fresh talent, such as a comedian, come aboard, it's SRO! Sanctuary? Lotus Thermal Spa? Forget that if you have mobility issues! Elevators to these places are out of order. I am seriously thinking of canceling my Transatlantic in September after this experience Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary to the southern Caribbean. Hadn't been to Martinique in years, and although we've been to Aruba, we had never gone to Bonaire. As expected the embarkation was fast and efficient. Our cabin on Dolphin Deck was a mini-suite and Club Level. We have stayed in mini-suites before, and the room was more than adequate for our needs. The balcony on Princess ships are open to the sky, and do not offer the privacy you enjoy on Royal Caribbean, or Celebrity. It had been awhile since we cruised Princess, and while we are Platinum Level on Princess, I had forgotten about this arrangement. It was an unwelcome remembrance. The staff on board were lovely and most accommodating. We ate dinner in the special area reserved for Club/Suite guests. Again the service was excellent. the menu was uninspired, the food portions on the small side, and the food was mediocre. Breakfast and lunch at the buffet were very disappointing. Very hard to find a table, few options, and food quality that should have embarrassed Princess. The other lunch dining option at the pizza place, and the pool grill were pretty good. This may sound funny, but the lounge chairs were just terribly uncomfortable. They have no cushions, and the mesh fabric is like lying on a slab of cement. Entertainment in the Princess Theatre was good. We saw a few production shows, and a few individual performers there as well. Getting back to food, we ate one meal in Sabatini's, which was pretty good. Had another meal in the Crown Grill, which was about as good as going to a chain joint like Longhorn. Not worth the money. Embarkation and disembarkation was amazingly smooth. Dining room and Wine Bar staff were exceptional. Entertainment was not as good as that on previous Princess cruises (9).This was one of many cruises to the Caribbean so the ports of call weren't of particular interest to us but I think most would have been enjoyable to the less traveled cruisers. Internet service...as usual on Princess ships...leaves much to be desired. It's not so much the speed as its reliability/availability. It was up/down much of the cruise. Princess should think about giving the service to guest instead of charging for it. We had a balcony mini-suite which was quite comfortable. The balcony was of nice size and the cabin included 2 large-screen TVs and a sleeper sofa. The food quality and variety was excellent though the service around the pool area and in the Horizon buffet needed much improvement. Be sure not to miss the Culinary and Galley Presentation! We took this cruise mainly because we liked the itinerary—Princess Cays, St. Thomas, Martinique, Grenada, Bonaire, and Curacao. Embarkation was easy. Princess always has good service, good food, and good entertainment. It was hard not to feel like there were too many people on board. I wonder how many people it originally carried. The elevators were crowded and sometimes the entertainment venues were packed! There were just more passengers than room for them sometimes I’m handicapped and appreciate both the ease of getting around on Princess ships and the attentiveness of the crew. I was quite pleased with my accessible room. I was always seated near the entrance of the dining room, and when I had breakfast or lunch at the buffet there was always a crew member offering to help me get my meal. It’s easy to get the feeling that the ship’s getting long in the tooth, but the most obvious place was the Horizon Court buffet. Both the furniture and carpet were really worn. Princess should make a priority of fixing that. I enjoyed this cruise and imagine I’ll be sailing with Princess again. The pros far outweighed the cons while onboard, and disembarkation was a breeze. Princess partners with the airlines, and for a fee you can have your luggage checked to your final destination when you leave it outside your cabin on the last night of the cruise! Read Less

This was our first 'drive to the cruise port' cruise. We drove from South Carolina to Fort Lauderdale with a one night stay at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, FL. The drive was fine but we did have some difficulty getting to Pier 2 at Port Everglades. Maybe it was bad gps, but the route was very difficult to follow after exiting I-95 with poor signage and it took us through a port entry where we had to deal with the rudest port entry security guard that was hard to understand and appeared to be 'playing' with us because we were confused about the route. However, after getting past him, the rest of the journey to the parking deck and ship was pretty easy. Embarkation was very easy, very quick and our room was ready for us when we got on board (1pm). The cruise was really nice and the weather just great throughout the cruise. If you enjoy coffee, get the New Grounds Coffee package. The specialty coffee drinks are really good and the regular coffee at the International Cafe is so much better. It's worth the price. The internet is still slower on this ship, but I find that I really need to get a package for peace of mind. All but one of the excursions we purchased were excellent. The only bad one was the Spice Beach Break in Bonaire. This was a 3 hour visit to an alleged beach resort that provided 'reserved' beach access for our group. Well, the beach area and lounge chairs that were supposedly reserved for our group were already mostly taken up by regular resort customers. Finding available chairs was difficult. We left early and took a private cab back to the ship rather than wasting our time waiting for the return school bus ride back to the ship. Do not purchase this excursion. You WILL be disappointed. We pre-purchased all of our excursions, coffee card, internet package and extra beverages for the room via princess.com using our account 3 weeks before the cruise. It's really the way to go. The dining room and our wait staff was more than adequate (nothing special). Our room attendant was very competent. Our stateroom (C752) was an aft facing balcony room with a very spacious balcony and beautiful views. The ride back there was a little bumpy but nothing to complain about. Love the breakfast options at the Horizon Court. Finding available pool side deck chairs is problematic as is the case with any cruise. I rated our entertainment as 'average' but that's only because one of our entertainers is one of the best. He is Todd Adamson and he's a very talented singer and entertainer. The rest of the entertainment was very disappointing. We chose express walkoff for disembarkation and it was very quick and somewhat easy. We were off the ship very early. Although the Crown returned to a different pier than our departure, Princess had shuttles waiting to take us to the proper parking deck. We were on the road back home by 8:45. We were very happy with our overall experience and hope to do it again next January. Read Less

Overall great experience. As usual, the crew was excellent, itinerary was great, room excellent, food above average in dinner room. Crown Grill the best ever. Ship recently undated and looks great. Cabin upgrade outstanding. Customer service in Vines was excellent. Cabin steward excellent. Did not do any shore excursions or attend any shows, expect the Rock and Roll Show, which was excellent. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smooth. Shore staff and ship staff were very well organized and ready to help guests, if necessary. The only disappointment was the selection of wines in Vines Wine Bar. Some are available in places like Walmart and grocery stores and sell for 6 or 7 dollars a bottle and sell on the ship for 9 to 10 dollars per glass. Over the last few cruises the selection of wine in Vines had gotten less and less and become more and more expensive. Looking forward to new wine list on next cruise. Read Less

A close friend and I booked this cruise of the Southern Carribbean based on the itinerary and reviews others had posted regarding Princess. We were not disappointed. We were particularly impressed with both the spacious cabin we had (an unexpected upgrade from an ocean view to balcony) and the theatrical productions. Both being native New Yorkers having seen numerous Broadway shows, we were blown away by the exceptional quality of every production during the course of the cruise. They were all outstanding. The Crown Princess does not have some of the amenities more current ships might have (climbing walls, go karts, etc) but it provided a great cruising experience. It did not feel crowded, provided enough amenities for us to enjoy and service in every aspect was terrific. The dining rooms were all lovely. The food was fine, not exceptional. We did have one dinner at the Crown Grill but other than the nice atmosphere didn't feel it worth the additional cost. My only complaint would be the condition of the fitness center which I used every day of the cruise. There were an adequate number of treadmills and other cardio equipment but the weight machines were old and in poor shape. I realize that many people don't go on cruises to work out but for those that do; this is an area Princess truly needs to address. There were an impressive number of fitness classes offered. Because the times often conflicted with either excursions or meals, I decided to sign up for personal training. I worked with a personal trainer for one hour sessions 6 out of the 10 days on this cruise and the trainer (Zolthani) was excellent. From South Africa, certified and highly knowledgeable, he was an absolute pleasure to work. The money spent on personal training during this cruise was a far better investment than the excursions were. Both embarkation and disembarkation were quick and extremely well organized. I would not hesitate to cruise on Princess again. Read Less

We chose it because the price was reasonable and wanted to see the rest of the So Caribbean. We loved the excursions be the ship left a lot to be desired. They had v ery little entertainment during the day and what they had at night was no very good. We loved the Royal and Regal but this ship is one we will not sail on again. We were bored and that does not usually happen on a cruise. The crew was great as was the food. A lot of our time was sent in the casino which was our form of entertainment. The chairs in Crooners were filthy and very uncomfortable. The mattress was too soft and gave us back aches. The worst was the size of the shower in our balcony room. It was horrible. My husband is 6ft 3 and could not manage. I had trouble. Could not bend over and was my feet. Had to do it when I got out. We will not go on this ship again. Read Less

While on the cruise we did not have the best experiences a few times 1) When we arrived on board and did the spa tour we double check our time and confirmed our couples massage for Saturday November 10, 2018 for 11:30 am. When we arrived at the spa on Saturday at 11:10 am to check in we were informed it was now scheduled for noon and when I explained we confirmed on arrival (the day before) and it was at 11:30 we were told “while now it is at noon so go away until noon (while handing back our cards which clearly had the enclave sticker on them). When we came back at 11:50 we were ask to go in a room and wait until a spa member came to get us for our treatment. We waited almost a half hour before the two ladies came to take us for our massages. Our massages went well until the end when they informed us the food that was ordered had not arrived and we would need to wait until it arrived which took about 20 more minutes. As we were eating another staff member arrived with other passengers to show them the cabana we were eating in, on the spa staff’s part they tried to tell him no but he continued into the cabana with other passengers. While walking us out of the Sanctuary area one of our massage therapist advised she appreciated our patience’s since the appointment scheduled before us did not arrive on time, so it put everything behind. We booked at the time we did as we were with a large group and had other plans so our 80-minute massage that was supposed to start at 11:30 did not get done until 3:00pm making our other plans null and void. We did file out the comment card while on the ship and placed it in the drop box expecting that someone would talk to us while we were still on board but this did not occur so we can only assume this is the expected treatment you give through the spa. 2) We had a wonderful steward for our room for the first few days. Our room was always cleaned, our water was resupplied as we ordered, and things were well taken care of for those days. Then he was replaced with a steward which I can only guess was brand new. Our room was not cleaned one day all day while we were on an excursion and when we advised him we would be leaving the room in about 10 minutes to go into town he stated he was off in a half hour and would try to get to it when he returned at 5 pm. We came back from town just before late dinner and our room was still not cleaned even though the “please refresh my room” was placed outside the door. We also ordered water which we did not get for two more days when we asked for it and reminded him we had ordered it. Our room was not cleaned another day until we were at dinner this was on a sea day. The room service trays stayed in the room longer than 24 hours at one point and a cup with a snack in it was left in the room for 2 full days until I asked where I could put it to dispose of it. Also on one occasion when the room had been clean when we returned there was a dirty wet wash cloth in the closet on top of my dress shoes. My shoes are fine but I was not sure where this wash cloth came from or how it would have ended up there. We placed this wash cloth in the cart outside our room as no steward was around. At one point we took out our own room service tray and placed it on the cart in the hallway since it was still in our room. 3) We received the paperwork for the debarkation process and filled it out the same day and returned it. As I said we were with a large group so when they were all talking about the time they debarked and where they had to go we did not know what they were talking about as this was our first cruise. We did receive notice that we would get this information on the evening before debarking so we did not have any concerns at first. Then on Friday evening around 9 pm we had to go down to passenger services to ask as we still had no information. The gentlemen at the desk looked us up and asked us how many luggage tags we needed and handed us a paper when we asked him what time and where we would need to go in the morning, he said everything you need is in there and walked away. No help with figuring out the already failed system we were experiencing. 4) This was our first cruise and it was unnerving to have two deaths among passengers with one being a violent event in the middle of the night. While we had these unpleasant experiences, we are considering cruising again in the future but are unsure which cruise line we will be trying. We did make a deposit with Princess but are unsure if we will be taking advantage of the benefits as of yet. Read Less

We have cruised a few times the beginning of November to enjoy some warm weather before the cold winter sets in. It was our fourth time of the Royal, 11th Princess cruise. Embarkation went smoother than we thought as we were delayed due to the Noro. We were in our stateroom by 1:30 losing about two hours. The best part of this cruise was the entertainment. The shows Colors of the World and Secret Silk were both incredible! Secret Silk was a broadway production! The comedian Scott Wyler and singer Jasson Allen were great! Ship bands were full of energy. The crew was just as friendly and accommodating as usual. We love Crooners and fresh martinis. A couple of downsides. The food is not as good, buffet had very limited choices. Alfredo’s and International Cafe ended up being our favorite places to eat. Unfortunately there was also a death on this cruise, a mysterious one and it left somewhat of a damper. Our excursion was not the best in Curacao. We were promised a stop that was never made. Plus, the extra stop we made was very sales pitchy. Read Less

We love the ABC Islands and visiting each port! If you have never been I would highly recommend traveling down south and enjoying a visit to all 3 spots. Embarkation was slowed down due to NoroVirus on previous cruise. Was a long line since we all waited to board but got on without an issue and they did an excellent job sanitizing the ship for us! We love the class of ship, was our first time on the Royal but have been on her sister the Regal 6 times. The layout and set up is wonderful. From the track on 17 to the Plaza everything is always top of the line. Cabin - We had a mini suite and as always nice and roomy! Only issue was the cabinet steward who was hard to find, always running behind, and didn't always follow requests. Dinning was the issue. Upset at Princess for changing times for MDR. They wanted us to eat at lunch time for dinner (4:30 pm). So we changed to 7:15 pm even though we don't like that late. So I guess if you have 400 TA's on the trip and they all complain it gets changed back to the original time? So we ended up instead of a 6 pm dinner, they moved our time to 7:45 pm. We ended up in the buffet since we don't want dinner that late. But we weren't the only ones as they had a staffing issue in the buffet not being able to cover all of us who lost our times we had scheduled. Makes me think we should start looking at other lines? Entertainment/Activities - We always love MUT or some of the Games they do at night. The shows are ok, but not impressive. Not sure what was up with the comedian, wasn't that funny! Service - Not as impressive as in the past. They had great attitudes but it was like they were always playing catch up to take care of us. But to be honest I'll take the smile over speed, you could tell they cared. Ports - Aruba was the best, did a simple bus ride to the beach and as always wonderful. Bonaire did the beach (may be a theme with us). Didn't like the undertow off the dock but have to admit loved the hotel we were at. Curagao was wonderful, yes another beach day, yes loved it. Also loved walking on the floating dock and the downtown area. These islands have so much to offer and the people are nice and friendly. The disembarkation was impressive. We live in Florida and drive to the port. They had us off and in my car 25 minutes from our scheduled time. I was impressed. Overall with the situation of the passenger who died during our trip I feel Princess handled it with a professional attitude leaving it to the investigators to determine what happened. Read Less

We just returned from our 8 night Southern Caribbean cruise on the Royal Princess. It was a great vacation. It was our first time sailing on Princess after having previously only traveled on the Disney Cruise line. I can't say that Princess delivers quite the experience Disney does but I can't justify the extra money for Disney. It's just not that much better unless you are traveling with small children, which we were not. Embarkation: The process was simple to drop off bags and to check in at the terminal. The actual wait to board was longer than I expected and, other than water, they had nothing to offer while we sat there until an hour after the time we were supposed to board. However, once we made it on board, our room was already available and everything was great. Cabin: We had a balcony cabin on the Aloha deck. It was not exactly roomy but it was more than sufficient for our needs. The bed was very comfortable and our steward was great. He was always very quick to make up the room and he met all of our needs. My only complaint with the room was a TV that didn't work properly and it took a couple of calls to get if fixed. Dining: We had the early dining and our server, Von Carlo, was very good. He was a delight to see each night and took great care of us. The menu was good and the food was consistently fresh and hot. We enjoyed all of our meals in the main dining room. We also used the buffet for several breakfasts, lunches and later night snacks. It was consistently very good. Drink service in the buffet was hit or miss but we enjoyed each meal and never had a hard time finding a table. The pool deck food was also quite good. We did find that both of the pool bars were always packed and definitely could have used more bartenders to cut down on some of the wait, particularly if you just wanted something easy like a Diet Coke. We did one dinner in the Crown Grill and that was truly one of the best steaks I have ever had. Entertainment: The stage show productions were all well done and the singers were very good. The comedian was funny. The guest singer was ok. The band that played by the pool and in the Piazza, Static, was very good. We enjoyed them a lot. Some of the performers in the bars were also quite good. The cruise director, Matt O, is absolutely fantastic. He is one of the most high energy and funny people I have ever met. He makes any event a blast to attend. The rest of the cruise director's staff were all good as well and the trivia and game shows were all fun. We were never bored on the ship. Ports/ Excursions: We did excursions through Princess in Curacao and Bonaire. In both cases, the guides were professional and informative and we had a great time on both. All of the ports were nice and we specifically booked this cruise to attend those ports. We enjoyed Aruba the most and will likely go back there for a vacation. Disembarkation: The process of exiting the ship was very organized. We were off the ship and to our airport transfer with no trouble whatsoever. Overall: We were very happy with our first Princess cruise and have booked a few more. Read Less

This was my first cruise with Princess and as a result of my experience, it will definitely be my last. Prior to booking, I had this impression that Princess was an elite cruising brand. I expected more of them than I would a Carnival, Norwegian or Royal Caribbean cruise line. I could not have been more wrong. Let's start with the PROS since its a short list. PROS: Embarkation - Princess is very organized. I was on the ship in less than 20 minutes from my arrival to the pier. I have NEVER gotten on a ship that fast before. There was no haggling to buy onboard packages and no pressure to take pictures. It was the most quickest, easiest embarkation I have ever experienced. Shore Excursions - I really liked that while the Excursions desk was not always manned that they had iPads at the desk so I could book excursions during their non-operating hours. I struggled whether to add this to the CONS list really, because the Excursions desk was closed before and during our sail away period, but I do like that I had this as an option. I like to book my excursions as soon as I get on the ship. I later learned I could have booked them in my room via the TV. Entertainment - I really enjoyed some of the musical talent on this ship. I learned of some new artistic gems like George Thursting that I now follow through social media. Love them. Folks, that's where my PROS list ends. Let's dive into everything that made this cruise horrible and left me vowing to NEVER cruise with Princess again. CONS: Bed Bug (in Room B249) - I usually don't sleep much, if at all, the night before a cruise, because I am busy packing and getting my house (and life) prepared for my extensive departure, so I usually make up for that sleep the first night on the ship. This cruise was no exception. I grabbed a bite to eat and booked my excursions once I got on board and I headed straight to my room to snooze. After we set sailed, I got up to grab something out of my bag and when I returned to the bed I noticed what looked like a bed bug crawling over the duvet cover. I screamed! I ran outside where the cabin steward was. He came in looking embarrassed, but not surprised, and scooped the bug into a glass jar. I was mortified. All I could think was how grateful I was that I had not unpacked yet. I did NOT want to take any of these critters home with me. I hear bed bugs are horrible to get rid of. I went straight to the reception desk to report it. Its the first night, so there's a long line. I patiently wait. When I get to the line, the service desk rep (Ignacio and Aracelli) said there was not much they could do besides send someone to investigate and clean the room since the ship was sold out. They did not offer me some place to sit or rest at during this 2-hour investigation. They did not offer me a complimentary beverage or meal. They did not apologize for the inconvenience. They did nothing, but "investigate." I stood on the side of the reception desk for 2 hours exhausted. I finally got back in line to see if there was an update, since NO ONE spoke to me during those 2 hours and only after I got back in line did someone call to check on the "investigation" and that's when I was told they were done and they did not find anything else (meaning another bug). For all I know, the investigation could have been completed an hour earlier. I return to my room alone. Visibly shaken, they did not offer to escort me to my room to reassure me and show me their findings. No one was there when I arrived. It was hours later when the cabin steward supervisor and my cabin steward returned to tell me the supervisor found nothing. I asked if I would be able to get checked by medical - something the front desk rep said I would be able to get as a courtesy to check for bed bug bites - and the supervisor told me NO. He said the ship doctor is not like a doctor on land, they're expensive, so I would have to pay for this myself. Um... OK! I was done after this. Done. He treated me like I was an inconvenience. Very hostile. I never unpacked my bag. I kept it closed the entire cruise and I checked my room for bed bugs each and every day. I tried not to let this ruin my trip cuz then I would definitely be on the losing end. I tried to make the best of it. Ship - Its old. Real old. Very dated. There's rust, mildew and mold everywhere. While I stood in line at the guest desk, I noticed there were multiple leaks from the ceiling. Also, the layout makes no sense. They give each deck a name. For example: Deck # 11 is named Baja and Deck # 15 is named Lido. Instead of referring to the deck number, you had to learn the deck names, because that is how they were referenced. It was so cooky. Then there were only so many elevator banks. I believe there were three or four for the entire ship and one or two of those only went to a few floors. There were no machines for people to add money to their room card/key. Everything went through the very incompetent guest desk. And they had to escalate everything. No one at the desk could make a decision at their level. No one was empowered to just do common sense things for guests. While I waited for my bed bug investigation, I heard a man with Platinum Level Status get upset over his beverage package and how someone screwed it up. I stood there thinking: If this guy is a loyal Princess cruiser and they treat him like that, how should I expect them to treat me? Not good, folks. Not good. Dining - I actually like the seating in the buffet dining areas. I liked that there were pub seating that looked directly out the window, so if you're a party of one you're only taking one seat and not an entire table. That's where my likes end. The food options were very limited and buffet small. It was about one-third of the size of the buffet area on the average Norwegian ship. Horrible! I made due, but I was just shocked. In Conclusion: The pros definitely did not outweigh the cons. I cannot justify the cost of the average Princess cruise for me to try the brand again. Outside of wanting to experience the Princess brand, I really chose this sailing because it was going to the ABC islands and it was full of smart at sea days. Heed my warnings. If nothing else, stay away from this ship unless you've cruised it before and know what to expect. Read Less

This was an 8-night cruise to the Dutch islands of Curacao, Bonaire, and Aruba, and the dates worked well for us. As a second cruise on Princess within a year (first one was in Alaska), the Caribbean Princess was very disappointing. On the positive side: Our cabin was nice -- a mini-suite with a balcony and real bathroom with a tub. Very comfortable bedding and air conditioning worked well. Room steward was very attentive and our cabin was cleaned as soon as we left the room. The dinners in the dining room were very nice with numerous choices, special requests handled graciously, and very pleasant staff. The choices for breakfast and lunch were usually in one of the public dining areas which had plentiful choices from the buffet, made-to-order omelets for breakfast, and different selections everyday for lunch. Very good wait staff there as well. Regarding entertainment, the few shows offered were quite enjoyable and provided a variety of acts. From comedy, to a staged show, to a music and dance theme, all were enjoyable. In the negative zone: We found very little to do onboard the ship during sea days, and scheduled events involved selling something. From China-made clothing events, to posture/walking products, other care products, and art of course. We regularly found that there was very little seating, IF any, in the atrium area to enjoy a coffee or listen to music, or just rest for a bit. The worst experience for me was on the first day of port visits in Curacao. We had booked the Hato Cave Tour which left at about Noon. The first stop at the cave nearly resulted in me needing a paramedic. There were over 50 very steep steps UP to a cave, which necessitated me to sit midway on one step to allow me to catch my breath and continue on (about 10-15 minutes). Once in the cave, it was hot and not a "cooled cave" as you would expect. It did have quite a few fans on stands, but there was no place to sit unless you were cautious not to lean back and possibly fall into the cave about two stories down. I was close to having suffered a heat stroke and tried my best not to black out. I was thankful to a couple of ladies from California who stayed with me and subsequently helped me out of the cave. The tour guide seemed blind to my distress. Afterwards back on the bus, one of the ladies gave me a fruit to help my dehydration and give me some nourishment. Our tour was supposed to go back to the ship so we could have lunch but the cancelled that portion. We were provided with NO food, snacks, beverages for the entire time of the tour, with all the provisions that there are on the ship. The tour guide, Ursula, provided many facts that guests needed to correct her about. I did not get off the bus for the rest of the day in fear or heat exhaustion again. The guide rearranged the order of the tour, and we did not get back to the ship until 8:00PM. At that point, we were unable to make the 8:30PM dinner at the specialty restaurant. We were not dressed for it nor in a state of mind to enjoy it. Being diabetic and not having enough to drink or eat for that many hours was a serious issue. That tour really ruined the beginning of our ports of call and my attitude towards Princess. Our experience with Princess tours in Alaska was excellent, so this experience was a 180-degree difference. We reported the Curacao tour issue onboard the Caribbean Princess to their excursion desk, but they did not seem very caring. Also, I was not the only one to have difficulty with the Hato Cave climb or inside visit. It truly ruined my view of Princess tours. Read Less

7 day Southern Caribbean. Ship feels old and outdated. Elevators are very slow and cannot accommodate the many summer passengers. Casino is too small and cannot accommodate all gamblers. Although, they had a craps table. They get a star for that one. It is a reoccurring theme with this ship. Food was standard for a average cruise ship. No wonderful meals like I had on Holland. The ports were the draw of why i came on the ship. No need to go to Curacao or Aruba. 3 days in Bonaire for me please. the movies on the ship were good and cabin tv system was good with lots of choices and recent movies and tv series. The cabin could be made Ice cold so very good AC system. Gym and sauna was good. The ship is just average. Things on it really bothered me. If you like to walk the deck like i do after a meal, you have to walk up stairs on the forward and aft part. you can't walk around it on the same level. also they close it off bc of wind at times. if you enjoy wasting about 15-20 minutes of your day waiting on elevators. This ship is for you. Read Less

It was our anniversary and we are trying cruise lines other than Carnival. We were fortunate to get upgraded to a Club Class mini-suite. We had booked an accessible balcony but when we were offered an upgrade we jumped on it since I could fold my wifes wheelchair and carry it in the room. Darn we got spoiled in the Club Class dining room. Our servers were first rate especially Marvin, Greys Kelly and Sergio. The ABC islands were interesting for caribbean islands since they are very arid and have cooling tradewinds. It never got above 82 and the breezes made them very comfortable. We only picked two excursions, both were trolley trains on Curacao and Bonaire. They were average since the seats were tiny and faced each other. They did offer a view of each islands capital. The TV line up featured Msnbc, Fox, Cnbc and BBC world news along with espn international and the deuce. Their on demand movies were first rate and very current. They showed the latest on the big screen up top (the movies under the stars became a favorite activity) and then they would add them the next day to the offerings in the cabins. Movies shown included (this was May of 2018) Star Wars, the last jedi, The Black Panther, The Greatest Showman, Justice League etc. The offerings in the cabin included many oscar nominated films such as I Tonya, Shape of Water, Dunkirk, Three Billboards, etc. TV offerings were from the Discovery Channel and many current series. I know most folks don't watch a lot to tv on a cruise but not everybody is a party animal so I mentioned them. Read Less

Chose this cruise based on the itinerary and price with perks offered. Also had been on a previous Princess cruise many years ago which was fantastic. Embarkation went smoothly and reasonably quickly. The buffet areas were large with good seating and lot's of food choices for each meal. The quality was very good. For those who chose breakfast in the dining room, the service was good and the food quality was also very good. The only negative was the lack of choices. Although the itinerary was great and the staff were wonderful, we were disappointed with the dinner menus and the public areas of the ship. The food quality was very good, but some of the items were less than appealing to us and some of the obvious things you would expect were missing. As an example, on our last formal night, they served lobster tail, but no melted butter and no potato. The some of the public areas were quite small. The public bathrooms were tiny with very little room to pass by someone. The casino was cramped and you could actually get trapped at some machines and need to have people move from there own machines in order to get out. The entertainment was fantastic with something for everyone. The staff all around the ship were great. Unfortunately, there were enough negatives that we would have to think long and hard before going with Princess again. Read Less

This was our 14th cruise and third cruise with Princess. The staff seemed very tired and overworked. The internet service was poorly managed. It was very expensive and then the system would eat up minutes just logging on, and twice I was unable to successfully log off the system and lost over 40 minutes just trying to get the system to disconnect. I received no help from Princess- just "that's the way it goes. You waste time and money and Princess makes money." Many people commented about the lack of guest speakers. Really felt like Princess was trying to be a party cruise - when a lot of people were more into learning about and experiencing the islands. A guest speaker who could explain the history of the islands would have been very nice. The Zumba instructor was great and classes to learn to play steel drums were led by a talented drummer who was also a very good instructor. Read Less

Chose it for the ports we hadn't visited before. Quality and choices of food were lacking in dining rooms. Went to Horizon Court for more options which I have never done before. The selections are so bad Princess is offering hamburgers on every dinner menu. Three of the ports weren't worth visiting for points of interest. Looked appealing in cruise description before booked, but in reality some excursions were overrated and expensive. Production show staff were average and singers were below average. First night comedian was insulting and some of the humor was in bad taste. Ventriliquest was excellent. Bar wait service was lacking and waiters in Horizon Court had to be faved down to get service. Our cabin steward was excellent and very knowledgable, room was great. Won't go to these ports again except for Princess Cays, St Thomas and best of all Curacel, Carraco. I would love to spend more time in Curacel. Very interesting and progressive island Read Less

Fort de France is a terrible run down hole. Grenada not much there. Bonaire and Curaçao (Willemstad) and ST Thomas are worth while. They really need improvement in the dining room. Staff is wonderful throughout the ship. The water in the toilet in the cabin, always smells of urine just terrible. Balcony is about 8x3. Steakhouse was wonderful but the ribeye could be more tender. Drinks cost about 10 dollars. Shops are nice but not many. Room service is fast but all they offer for breakfast is a egg mc muffin. Really sad. My room could be alittle cleaner, the chair was dirty so I cleaned it, it also had a few hairs on it. The room Stewart was nice and very responsive. Good cruise overall. Read Less

The Royal is impressive but lacks a full length covered promenade which we enjoy for walking in inclement weather or hot sun. The ship seemed very stable to us but a new to cruising couple on a higher floor felt movement. I advised them to book future cabins lower and nearer the center of the ship. One other drawback is we had to walk thru the smokey casino at times. Food and entertainment is still great and the new buffet is a bit confusing but offers a lot more options and there was always plenty of seating. Ditto for the deck space although the sky deck is only accessible by stairs or stair mounted lift which no on uses so this may be a problem for people with mobility issues. Service slipped in some areas, was up to standards in most and excelled in others so all in all very good. Our young cruise director Mat O'Brian was one of the most energetic people i have ever met. We enjoyed the ship but sincerely hope future designs incorporate a proper promenade. Read Less

This was our 4th cruise, all on Princess, but 1st on the Royal. For those not interested in reading the longer version of my review, here is an Executive Summary - nice ship, great itinerary, wonderful service, good food, lots to do. So, "don't worry, be happy." Now for the longer version: We are M57 & F56 from the eastern part of Canada. We have had the good fortune to be able to travel quite regularly and over the past few years have been to several AI resorts in Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica as well as on cruises. Chose this voyage based on combination of price (net of OBC), length (we love 10 day vs 7 day voyages), itinerary, and time of year. Flew via Air Canada Rouge through Toronto and arrived on time to FLL. Not a huge fan of the trend by airlines to eliminate seat back entertainment in favour of using your own mobile device with an onboard wifi system. Notwithstanding, decent selection of music, movies and TV available if you download the app in advance. Stayed one night at the Four Points by Sheraton Airport/Cruiseport. Decent facility. Free shuttle from FLL was nice although seemed to take forever to arrive for pick up after we called. Perhaps we were a little anxious to get going? :) :) Due to time change we were up very early so had breakfast and then summoned an Uber to take us to the port. Cheaper ($7.31 !!) than the hotel shuttle ($6 pp). Dropped our bags with the porter ($5 tip) around 10 am, into the terminal, directly to a check-in agent, processed in a couple of minutes and then into a lounge to await boarding. We were on board shortly after 11, dropped our bags in our cabin (Inside, Deck 16, L121) and then headed off to explore the ship. Much about it is similar to the Emerald and the Crown on which we have traveled before but several differences as well so felt like we were "newbies" to some extent. Our checked bags were late to be delivered but guessing its because I put both wine bottles we were bringing on board in the same suitcase rather than 1 & 1 so my bag was held up for inspection. Note to self - put one bottle in each bag in future. Things we particularly liked: 1. The service was consistently great from the room steward to the serving staff to the front desk personnel, etc. 2. The entertainment - house orchestra, Sunset Quartet, Tyrone the steel drum player, the string trio, the comedian Troy Thurgill, the movies, etc. were all wonderful. We did not attend any of the production shows. 3. The food was very fine and we sampled from almost all venues - Horizon Court, Horizon Bistro, International Cafe, Crown Grill, Anytime Dining, Alfredo's, pool area grill, pizza and ice cream, etc. We did not try Sabbatini's nor did we have room service. 4. The ports of call - especially Martinique (where we took an island tour with Beyond The Beach 5*), Bonaire (where we did a snorkeling trip with Woodwind 5*) and Curacao (where we did a self-guided walking tour and visited the Maritime Museum). 5. The gym - we used the facility on 7 of 10 days and it was never over-crowded, always well-maintained and excellent variety of top equipment. Things we weren't as keen on: 1. There is no great venue for ballroom dancing on the Royal and since this is something that my wife and I enjoy, we found the Emerald's layout superior. All-in-all this was a great cruise and we would highly recommend Princess, the Royal Princess and the 10-day Southern Caribbean itinerary. Read Less
