We loved the itinerary and the tours were wonderful (except Malaysia but that was because the ship had a mechanical problem so we didn't get to Malaysia in time for any good tours). My cabin steward was excellent - the best ever - Robert on the 10th deck. Embarkation and disembarkation so very smooth. That was the pro's. Now for the con's - the ship is in dire need of restoration - our air ...
We chose this cruise because we wanted to sail from Singapore and I assumed Princess was a "good" cruise line, similar to Disney, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian. I'll start with the good experiences - we loved our shore excursions and the shore excursion staff. The food was good and the pastry chef was extraordinary. I don't stay up late, so I can't comment on the entertainment, except to say ...
We have cruised with Princess six times and with other lines, maybe 20 times.
This trip was by far the least satisfactory.
The ship was very tatty and worn. It broke down when a propulsion system failed. The announced 2hr. delay expanded to over 6 hrs resulting in a curtailed on shore trip.
An accident resulted in a helicopter extraction at 3 a.m. resulting in a missed port.
The food ...
So disappointed with the Bar Staff, we have always been grateful for the attentive bar staff on Princess Ships but on Sapphire debating Singapore 2 Dec 2017 there was none. We usually frequent Crooners and Explorers and on Sapphire the Fusion. Many times the Explorers and Fusion were not open to service making Crooners very crowded and we were told by wait staff that table service was only ...
We had pre-booked an excursion to visit Lok Kawi Wildlife park in Borneo as we wanted to see orangutans up close. The day before our visit the ship broke down mid-ocean from a mechanical problems involving the propulsion system causing us to drift aimlessly for 7 hours before the repair was completed.
In consequence we arrived late into port and we were informed half of the excursion had been ...
For some reason I wanted to go back to Southeast Asia again this year (did Vietnam & Cambodia last Sept.) to see and experience more. Liked the timing in December and the ports of call.
Was upgraded to mini-suite - having that extra space was great.
Ship is in need of a refit and it's scheduled soon. Some parts definitely show wear, but it's consistent with the Grand Class ships, so once you ...
Met with our expectations and exceeded at times. Well done Sapphire Princess - Captain and Crew. The ship is well maintained. The Princess brand is represented well on this ship. Our back to back trip of 15 days Singapore to Singapore had great ports and the Onshore Excursions Princess provided were excellent quality, value and very efficiently administered.
Our mini-suite met our ...
Princess has always been one of those cruise ships i had previously heard was amazing. This was not what I encountered. We were a party of 8 including two children. When we first walked onto the boat we noticed that it looked dated, old, it needed some TLC. After a few days into our 15 day cruise, there was rain. I noticed that common areas had roofs leaking and places to eat had wet floors.
We ...
A recent Princess cruise in December took us to Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand, sailing on the Sapphire. We knew beforehand that this is now an old ship, but it has weathered well, and apart from a few marks of wear and tear it is well preserved. Overall we found it to be well maintained, with scrupulous attention to cleanliness and hygiene. Embarkation on the first day in Singapore ...
Just my two cents so far. My family embarked in Singapore and we've been on the ship for a week.
So far, I have to say that I don't understand the negative reviews. My previous cruise experiences have been exclusively Disney cruises (Fantasy/Dream/Wonder) so I can most easily compare to those ships.
Some notes:
- The ship is brand new. Everything is literally gleaming.
- The clientele ...
