I booked our honeymoon a year in advance and we decided to splurge on a suite for our honeymoon. I have spent hours reading reviews and suggestions on Cruise critic so I will try to give back by covering the different aspects of a Ruby Princess Cruise, both good and bad. Because we had a suite the embarkation process was great. We got on board around 3:30. We had reservations for Crown Grill (free because we were in a suite) so we didn’t want to eat too much. Cabin-Our cabin D737 was great. So nice to have a large cabin on a cruise. We were completely aft which I worried about having to walk too far, but it wasn’t bad and the view was amazing. I have to say for 2 people my husband and I agreed the suite wasn’t necessary. However , we did love the perks from the suite. The nightly canopees were too fancy for us, so we didn’t order anymore. Liked the daily fruit. We told our steward exactly what we wanted in the fruit delivery. Also asked for ice and bottled water every evening. Food- this was the biggest disappointment. My husband and are are not fancy eaters. That’s one reason I chose Princess. My last princess cruise I found the food constantly good and not too fancy. This time the food was mediocre to tasteless. The buffet had a large variety but the food was wasn’t good. I did love the breakfast buffett. I had French toast, bacon, fruit, oatmeal everyday. We did order room service breakfast a few days and I still went up to the buffet for more. For lunch we ate in the Club Class dining room. That was very nice for lunch. I had a hamburger from Salty Dog Grill by the pool (different from the Salty Dog Grill Cafe that you pay for) it was okay. Crown Grill for dinner was worth it. Service and food were excellent. We ate in the dining room for dinner 2x . Again the food and service was good. Horizon Buffett has a lot of variety, but the food wasn’t good. Entertainment- the magician was excellent. The big production the second to the last night was great. My husband and I didn’t find the comedian funny at all, we left early. My husband enjoyed the lounge singers each night. We did the deluxe ship tour $ 150 per person. We loved it. Very interesting and a great swag bag. Skagway zip lining at Grizzly Fallswas fantastic. Glacier Bay was disappointing . Not Princess’s fault. I visited it years ago, there were not really any impressive views. I kept telling my husband just wait. Then the announcement came on that we were leaving. I couldn’t believe that was all. Overall, we won’t be sailing Princess anytime soon. We plan on trying another company. Keep in mind, these are just our opinions. I’m sure people loved the food and entertainment. I’ll answer any questions you may have about the Ruby or having a suite . Read Less

We chose this cruise from vacations to go for a last minute trip. The price was really great and the destination was northeast and Canada. Embarking was super but the room was disappointing. Not for location, but for cleanliness. The rug in the room was old, stained and dirty. We did not bring slippers because we called princess earlier and the rep said all we had to do was ask. Well that proved to be futile, I emailed Princess during the trip to complain and we finally got them day 3. Meanwhile, I had lined the floor with pool towels. Day 4 we asked for our room cleaned. The steward (who we pre tipped in cash although we did opt to pay gratuities) made up our bed in the same sheets, they were wrinkled with hair in them. The bathroom had hair, the sink wasn't cleaned and the rug had not been vacuumed. I know because we removed the pool towels prior and some cookie crumbs were on the rug. They were still there. The soap on the sink was mashed into the pre formed counter top. There were tea ring stains on the desk. etc. The ship ran out of smoked salmon day 5. Even though they were in nova scotia! The hash browns are GREASY!! There was no lactose free food in the buffet, everything except cold cuts had milk, cream, cheese and butter. No dairy free desserts except jello. Later on, while we were in the disco, an employee entered our room without permission with our privacy notice on the door to bring us chocolate strawberries that neither of us could eat. All of our personal items were out in the room, our handbags, our jewelry, my computer was up and running, they entered and violated our privacy. Princess has changed from our 2 previous cruises with them. Floor supervisor was nasty. When customer service called to ask why we were not happy. She said she was sorry we did not appreciate the gift of strawberries. They still don't get that it wasn't the strawberries we were mad at, it was the violation of privacy, oh and yes, the dirty room. Read Less

The food quality and selection is not what I have been used to on Princess cruise. Was served French fries with a filet mignon. Being on a Mediterranean cruise would have expected a better selection of seafood and fish. King prawns were the size of baby shrimps. Although the MichelAngelo waiting staff was really courteous and helpful. Pedro the head waiter was good to find us nice and enjoyable people to sit with. Front desk service is useless they give you the run around! We were booked on a shore excursion on our day of disembarking but the bus couldn’t carry luggage. It would have been great to visit Mykonos but the rough sea prevent it us to port.... the captain decided for the safety of the passenger to continue our route. I’m glad that he made that call for our safety. Princess didn’t live up to their slogan.... Come Back New! I found that Princess cruise line has been going down in quality over the last 5 years. It not what it used to be. Read Less

Dates, price, and ports were desirable. We've traveled with Princess on an Alaskan cruise and I based my good prior experience on booking with Princess again. However, I was disappointed in how old and poorly maintained the Star has become. The overall feel of the ship is "aged". Our stateroom smelled of urine upon arrival and unfortunately that never faded throughout the week! The staff was not as friendly as expected, with the exception of a handful who did go out of their way to make us feel welcomed. The food both in the buffet and the formal dining rooms was only "acceptable". Not once did we receive a "hot" meal, but more like "lukewarm". However, the pizza parlor and grill were exceptionally delicious and fresh (most likely because they make the food as it's ordered). We enjoyed the Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway ports but were disappointed with the Victoria port. We arrived 30 minutes before dark and left approximately 4 hours later...not much you can see or do in that time frame so we felt it was a total waste! On a positive note, the bed and bedding were stupendous - best part of the ship in my opinion. Read Less

We truly enjoyed our cruise. That being said, Island Princess is OLD and tired. We do enjoy the smaller ships, but in the future because how Princess manages these smaller ships and offers lesser quality food, music, activities and we feel lower quality staff, we will not be returning to the Island. My primary observations: No electrical by bed. Had to request extension cord and run across cabin. Trip hazard. Daily activity flyer, print too small. Cruise director & staff superficially friendly. If asked for a more in depth answer, they get surly. Beds are very nice. Towels are the quality of a cheap hotel. Toilet paper and facial tissues are bargain basement quality. Why did the balcony rail and deck need to be stained and sealed during my passage? Received notice after several days into cruise that our balcony would not be accessible during the canal crossing. Why did we pay the premium for a balcony or when booking New Princess Net is pretty good. But, expect to have spotty service during rain and/or fog. In cabin TV. The presentation of the channels and guide is very hard to figure out and know what is on and how to select. Bridge cam is out of focus and has been since we've been monitoring in preparation for our cruise. 3 months. Horizon buffet. Restaurant management not engaging with customers. At every meal on the horizon, 50% of tables had no salt shakers. Weird. Maritime crew not friendly. Large wall posters advertising light snacks at the Patisserie and coffee bar. Yet, no food available at the patisserie coffee bar. Apparently, a coffee bar has been added to the casino where the food has been moved to with no mention to the passengers. Just sweet buns. Front desk/passenger customer service – these ladies are life savers answering questions and solving problems that better management would have prevented from ever happening. Eve & Belen helped me many times and had a delightful attitude. Cruise director & staff – bubbly, but if asked for some help, or to resolve an issue, not so interested. When met outside of an activity, quite distant and unfriendly. Morning coffee and afternoon wine at La Patisserie – Fabian and Ana will always be remembered. Ship's climate control - The ship appears to be 5 separate compartments, connected into 1 master vessel. The temperature and humidity can vary quite noticeably between these sections of the ship. There are no clocks in the rooms. Things Princess does not mention, but passengers should know. The shops, casino, spa, etc. are not Princess operated. They are leased operations. Besides being considerably more expensive than similar State-side businesses, if you have any issues with products needing warranty service, you must go to the vendor, not Princess. $5 for a tube of Pringles? Insulting. Gambling. There is no gaming commission overseeing operations as you find on land casinos. Payouts for slot machines and table games are at the discretion of the casino and yes, not as favorable as popular casinos such as Las Vegas. Some have noticed that the slot payouts are favorable on day 1 or 2 on the cruise to excite the passengers and then lowered for the remainder of the cruise. ADA - The doors to many places on the Island Princess ship, unlike the newer Princess ships I've been on are not only not auto-open, and are very hard to open, even for non-wheelchair use passengers. One of the greatest benefits of Princess vs. other Lines are the self-service laundries. Unfortunately, there is a 3" transition into them so this service is totally inaccessible to a wheelchair. Food - I do not know if it is the age of the ship, the itinerary, the Chef or what, but as compared to the Regal & Emerald, the menu is far less exciting, the meat quality is lesser and the wait time for food delivery diminishes the dining experience. Wine – we expect to pay 2x retail as in most restaurants. 4 times retail is insulting. Princess tries to convince us that they are concerned about the environment by suggesting we should use our bath towels for many days, yet the amount of single use beverage containers and paper products at buffet wash stations is far more wasteful. Does Princess ever mention the $40 million dollar fine for Illegal Ocean dumping and 9 probation violations? Future Cruise Dept. - I do not understand the benefit to the passenger for this onboard department. I was interested in an Alaska cruise for 2021. Princess had not published the itineraries yet or which ships will be in use. The staff person could not or would not put me an email list to let me know when they were known. Her suggestion was to check with a travel agent. Pretty sad. We have found that the daily activities on the Island are sparse during the day as compared to our other Princess cruises. Activities such as trivia and marriage match game are not scheduled until later in the day. The live music in the various lounges and Plaza are noticeably poorer quality than previous cruises on other Princess ships. Shows - The band is pretty good. Princess advertises 'Las Vegas" style shows. Makes me think that they have never seen Vegas or NYC shows. They are nice, but more like high school talent show quality. There is nothing wrong with them, but be more honest as to the offerings. The musicians in different lounges and plaza were not the quality I’ve come to expect from Princess. Our other Princess ships had a dedicated pizza restaurant. Very nicely prepared. Santorini's offers pizza a few times per cruise. No better than the pizza on the pool deck and no servers with a 'tude' to deal with. The Ocean App. Why can't the lunch and dinner menus be post there? Read Less

We have traveled on Princess many times before and never had this bad of service and meal choice The music was played so loud through out the venues that it was uncomfortable even with my hearing aids OUT The ship was in good condition and the staff in the cafe especially April were the best trained on the ship there you could get HOT coffee and tea as well as snacks . the disembarkation was very smooth I booked the Flight ,hotel and transfers through Princess this all went very smoothly so I can recommend this I have another cruise booked in October 2020 with Princess but if this is there new standard I will give serious consideration to cancelling this and book with another line Read Less

Chosen for the fact that it departed and returned to Vancouver. Other than that very disappointed with size of cabin ( swing a cat ). Washroom no bigger than a postage stamp. Shower was so small to wash your legs and feet, head would stick through shower curtain. It was claustrophobic. To towel off was impossible either hands, elbows or shoulders would strike the sides. No cold water came through the faucet just hot or warm. This was mentioned but told this is how it is. The room was so small my wife and I bumped into one another quite often. Other than the actual musical shows ( there were 4 ). The rest of the entertainment was average at best. The food was away below par. Especially at the buffet. Only breakfast was edible. Capri dining room perhaps a step up but but not great. Casino was smoky and machines very tight. I think 1 jackpot of 5000 was won during the whole cruise. It would appear that princess cruises are in tough for money and are cutting back on good service, good food and first class entertainment. They are very heavy on shopping stores and in selling low end junk. Not as advertised and our travel company should have known about these shortcoming. It was a waste of money. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the length and where it left from. Overall, it was disappointing. My wife is used to being wow'd by the bartenders and they were very matter of fact and unwilling to try to make any drink that was not on the menu. The dining room menu was also subpar with Tilapia and spaghetti and meatballs in the main dining room. Best part of the trip was the entertainment. The cabin steward was very stealthy as we can't even tell you their name. Getting on and off the ship was the best ever experienced. Despite a lot of effort to fight rust, there was a lot of rust on this ship. We would not consider another Princess cruise. It was definitely below expectations in many areas. My wife ordered hot tea in our room and the status made it to "being prepared". She never received the tea and when we attempted to contact room service, no one could tell us anything. Read Less

We expected a lot more based on the past experiences related to us by friends and family. The room service menu left a lot to be desired even when they delivered what we ordered, which was about 10% of the time. You can't get toast with breakfast even if you ask for it! Our room was a tired shade of beige, with both lampshades conspicuously held together by sticky tape. I can only assume the shower space was designed by someone who'd never taken one, topped off by a curtain that was about an inch short of serving its purpose, leaving us with a soaked bath mat each time. Lunching in the "anytime" dining room was a queue-early or queue-long experience, with only one of three dining rooms opened to cater to the masses. Having made it in once (after prior aborted attempts) we realised it wasn't worth the wait after all and never went back. Afternoon tea was an exercise in attracting the attention of waiters just emerging from the galley, as we watched the septuagenarians and older finger the sandwiches they wanted on the trays already circulating the room, only to be served ones they hadn't touched by the waiters who let this happen while we watched; you can only hope their hands were clean! The dinner menu changed daily and was a mediocre offering, with the best saved for the last night, presumably to leave us on a high note. Sadly, the five nights prior had already left an indelible mark. I feel sorry for the wait staff who had to continually serve up such middling fare so incommensurate with their excellent service. I can't speak for the drinks in general, but the mark-ups on sauvignon blanc were close to 5 times retail ($46 for a $10 bottle of wine) - far better to bring your own on-board in quantity and pay the $15 per bottle corkage. I don't mind paying for good wine but that is just inexcusable gouging. Hobart was nice, but we arrived on a day when many attractions were closed. Note to self - must do more research as cruise-line obviously doesn't. Will definitely go back there under own steam to explore further. We've cruised on Celebrity Solstice before and almost certainly will again. Cruising on Ruby Princess was a first and a last for us. Read Less

We had good experiences with Princes before, not this time. What can I say, fire alarm in the cabin going off every time we took a shower, the phone ringing 20 times afterwards telling us, then people at our door. We finally got moved after 5 days of this, but it took the fun out of our cruise already. The food was mediocre at best, but it seems all cruise lines are just not getting it food wise anymore. We really didn't't get very good info on some of our excursions and one got part of it cancelled, the best part and only a 50% refund The shows were really good, the best part of the cruise Dancing was non existent. One needs to really check out what you are buying excursion wise before you pay, some are really worthless, Hop on Hop off in Cartengena - don't do it, another took us up a dirty, smelly river for an hour. I was told that Princess Cruies were great. I found out differently. The food was not what I had expected. The buffet closed in the afternoon and the selection were the same thing day after day. The best part of my cruise was the cabin that was well kept. They should offer more keroake. It was something that I enjoy doing. The shows were not what I had expected. The casino could be a little bit looser. It was run like an Indian casino. No winners only loosers. The gift shope were ok. The Effy Jewelry store was well stocked and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed seeing Faye, Saba, Ozzie, Crieg, and Sheva they have nice personality. Great itinerary. However if you receive a complimentary room upgrade please do yourself a favour and do research on where exactly they want to put you. We had our vacation ruined by loud chair shuffling, carts slamming and doors opening all night long every night. Other than that, the cruise was good, the food and the service were top notch. The itinerary was great too however Grand Turks was kind of a letdown, we took a coast to coast island tour but unfortunately there’s not much to see other than some random donkeys here and there. We ended up at a abandoned lighthouse were we were charged additional money to see it. In Columbia, we took a hop on hop off which was great but the locals shoving items for sale in your face was too much. Our group was harassed like I’ve never before. I know they are just trying to earn a living but they were overly aggressive and honestly it made us feel totally uncomfortable. The other stops were fantastic, Read Less

You'd think it would be difficult to be pissed off after spending a week somewhere as gorgeous as the Caribbean. But congratulations, Regal Princess - you've succeeded. I'll start with a little background: This was the FOURTH cruise I've taken with Princess just this year alone - and my second on the Regal. I'm not the type to complain about every little issue on a cruise - I'm generally pretty easy to please. I did Panama Canal last month on the Island Princess and it was amazing. Zero complaints. I wrote a great review after that cruise because they deserved it. I just got home from a seven day Western Caribbean cruise on the Regal Princess. The ports of call and shore excursions were excellent, as always, but many things about the ship itself were pretty terrible. I don't even know where to begin, so I'll take it from the top... I boarded the ship the first day and headed up to the Riviera Deck to my stateroom - R311. I immediately noticed a funky smell in the hallway - almost like the cleaning products used to deodorize a toilet in a bus or airplane bathroom. It was pretty gross. I noticed that the carpets were wet, too, so I assumed that they had just wet vacuumed the hallways or something. I went into my stateroom and began unpacking. The carpet in front of my bathroom was also wet - bad enough that my socks got soaked after stepping on it. And the bathroom itself smelled like urine, which really bothered me, because I had the same problem last Spring in my stateroom on the Aloha deck. Later in the afternoon I went to explore the ship and stopped by the front desk to tell them about the smell in the bathroom. They said they'd have the steward take care of it, and he did - when I went back to my room an hour or so later, the bathroom had been bleached and scrubbed and the smell was almost totally gone (note: if you want your steward to take great care of you, give him/her a $20 tip at the beginning of the cruise as soon as you meet them and they'll do almost anything for you). I was tired that evening and decided to just order room service. This also turned into an exercise in frustration. I called several times and nobody answered. I was put on hold each time. After spending about 10-15 minutes waiting, I'd had enough and called the front desk to complain. They said they'd have the room service people call me back, and eventually, they did. I tried not to get too worked up about the situation because it was the first night of the cruise, and the room service staff are often pretty backed up at this time. I ordered the lobster and steak and paid $19 for it (it wasn't worth it, and not only that, they got my order wrong). Later in the evening I tried calling the dining reservations line to make a reservation for the following evening at Sabitini's, and same situation - nobody answered. I gave up after several attempts. That night I went to bed in a not great mood but was hopeful that the rest of the cruise would be much better. I was startled awake at 5:30am by a SCREECHING alarm that went off in my stateroom. I called the front desk and they said they were aware of the problem - someone else had also called from their room on Riviera to report the same thing - and that they were working on fixing it. The alarm continued screeching for another 15 to 20 minutes. At this point, I'm wide awake, and I go to use the bathroom. I open the bathroom door and the bathroom stinks like urine again. Now I'm definitely not happy. There's no way I'm getting back to sleep. The alarm is still going off. I go down nine flights of stairs to the front desk to complain about the alarm and the smell of the bathroom. They send a housekeeping manager up to my room to check out the bathroom, and he sends the plumber up. Eventually the alarm turns off. The plumber fiddles around with the bathroom drains for 15 minutes or so, and then says he's sorry but there's not much he can do - the entire Riviera deck was flooded yesterday by a burst pipe, which is causing the sewer smell in both the hallway and possibly the smell in my stateroom bathroom, too. Basically, I'm out of luck. I appreciated the honesty, because this was the first time someone had the decency to actually explain to me what the TRUE situation was. A simple letter of apology or acknowledgement from Princess would've gone a long way here. "Hey, sorry the hallway is flooded and smells like a sewer and we did nothing to warn you", or "hey, sorry to wake you up from a sound sleep at 5:30am with an ear-splitting alarm that went off in dozens of rooms for 20+ minutes with zero explanation and no way to quickly turn off". Needless to say, this never happened. In any event, I called guest services and told them that I wanted a new room on a different deck. They said the ship was filled to capacity but that they'd see what they could do and get back to me. I heard nothing back for several hours. It wasn't until I got my travel agent involved AND threatened to contest the entire cost of the cruise with my credit card company that guest services finally had someone up the chain reach back out to me. I received a call a little later from Dean - the guest services director - and he was fantastic. I really need to give credit where credit is due here. I explained to him that pretty much every single thing about the cruise up until that point had been a complete nightmare, and that nobody on staff either seemed to care and/or had the ability to help me fix the problems I was having. I pretty much gave him a list of complaints and he immediately began addressing and trying to fix each one. It made all the difference in the world to me that he took my complaints seriously and actually worked to correct them. He even made me a complimentary reservation at Sabitini's that evening. Without my experience with Dean and his help resolving everything here, I doubt i'd ever be taking a Princess cruise again. From this point on, some things improved and some didn't. I went to Sabitini's that evening and this was literally the highlight of the cruise. They were so welcoming and friendly - the level of service and quality were amazing. I wish the entire cruise was like this. It meant so much to me that they actually treated me like a guest, because for most of the cruise up until this point (and after it), I felt like just a number. The ports of call and shore excursions were all excellent. Thank God for that because this helped the cruise not seem like a complete disaster. I did have some fun, at least. But overall, the negative experiences I had that first day or two of the cruise overshadowed the entire vacation, especially because many of them were never completely resolved. The hallway and bathroom continued to smell, it was difficult to get a human being on the phone when calling room service, the dining reservation line, or even the front desk, and the ship seemed very understaffed for the amount of guests on board. With so many shortcomings during this cruise, I've been trying to put my finger on how things could've gone so noticeably downhill since my last Regal cruise this past March. My theory is that it all boils down to the Medallion system. It's obvious that Princess is eliminating staff and replacing them with a terribly inadequate and cumbersome system of online Medallion applications. What a huge mistake. Human beings should not be replaced by automation in an industry where the overall level of quality/satisfaction is so heavily determined by the level of care/attention you receive from actual humans. If I go to McDonald's, I don't care if the human interaction is replaced by a self-service kiosk. When I'm on a cruise, it's a completely different story. Not to mention the fact that the apps often don't work or drastically limit the number of things you can do/order compared to when you interact with an actual human staff member - which often necessitates an additional human interaction, anyway. The few staff still employed seemed totally overwhelmed with the number of guests on board. They couldn't keep up, guests were getting frustrated, there were lines for almost everything, and the decreased morale was pretty apparent. it's a lose-lose situation for everyone involved. I really hope someone high up at Princess reads this review. Some of the issues on this cruise might've been bad luck, but others were entirely preventable. A lot of it boils down to customer service. I've given Princess many thousands of dollars in business in the past year alone. Just because I'm on the younger side, and traveling solo, doesn't mean I should receive a lower level of service than an older couple or a family with kids - and that was the impression I got again and again on this cruise (as well as other Princess cruises I've taken). I guarantee you I'm contributing just as much to your bottom line as these people, if not more. Perhaps you should realize who your truly loyal customers are, and start treating them that way. used Princess Crown for British Isles cruise in August 2019 and found it very enjoyable. In our December 2019 cruise to the Virgin Islands aboard same ship we found maintenance issues on several days in two different assigned rooms. Leaking ceilings on two occasions, our clothing was soiled from leaking directly into our closet; repairs by on board plumbers failed twice. TV needed repair, thermostat refused to function needing repair. In the course of all these issues we began to believe we were certainly not aboard a Princess cruise ship and certainly not the same Crown Princess we had sailed just a few months past in August 2019. Ocean view room requested resulted in room fully obstructed by lifeboat that prevented seeing the island or any of the area beauty; we did see the interior of the lifeboat. The Production Shows and the Anytime Dining in the Michael Angelo Room were outstanding in every respect, and the ship's decorations for the Christmas celebration were memorable! Read Less

Golden princess is a tired old ship that urgently needs a refit. This wont happen soon as it is to be sold back to P&O in late 2020. Our mini suite with balcony had a dated interior and was of a lesser standard than other mini suites on other cruise lines we have been on. We paid $8,000 for it. We spent $8,300 on on-board purchases and that amount was settled in full on disembarkation. How utterly annoying to be hit with a further $5,300 the next day - an obvious error on their part - only to be told one of the staff will get back to us in 72 hours! They debit in a nano-second and refund in days/weeks. It completely screwed our bank balances during the holiday season. Cruise ships as a whole need to really lift their accounting and billing practices which are skewed in their favor. So far the 13 day cruise has cost us $21,600!!! - (we patiently wait a refund of $5,300 - why is this all so difficult in the digital payments age? Do they do this on purpose?) We spent $400 for 1200 minutes of useless, slow, unreliable WI-FI. A talkative captain made lengthy announcements at 12 noon each day that automatically mutes any TV program you are watching. His discourses often went for 20-30 minutes. The incessant sales and marketing barrage starts the second you board - after 13 days of it you really are averse to buying anything at all. This cruise was heavily populated by lots of elderly folk with walkers, canes, wheelchairs. How would they cope in an emergency? The cabin stewards are the real heroes. They are overworked and obscenely underpaid - we gave them generous bonuses. Having said this, do NOT book this ship for the reasons I have provided. Read Less

What was to be a celebration of our birthdays turned out to be the worse cruise we ever sailed with Princess! We are platinum members and have never experienced such rude and brusque attitudes from crew members from all of our travels! From a RUDE Maitre'd---who made me cry and kept walking by looking at me and never attempted to address the situation, to rudely being awoken at 5am with hammering on steel outside our porthole window to tour desk members telling us "You should expect to interact with nature" when we were upset about finding out our tour was shared with POISONOUS SEA SNAKES!! Going to the service desk was a JOKE with the response being "I'll make a note of that" and they were not even typing or writing anything down---- which meant, We don't care what you experienced, just go away! We also paid an exorbitant amount for the soda package each and it was like PULLING TEETH trying to get a soda drink in the formal dining room and when you did finally get it---- it was in the tiniest glass!! Then you had to wait another 30 minutes to get another soda! Mind you, we had paid over $300 per person for this FRUSTRATING privilege! One evening in the formal dining room we were seated and 5 minutes later, a couple was seated at a table next to us. They ordered, ate, had mixed drinks, coffee and dessert all before our dinner plates were even cleared away!! I ordered a caffe mocha to go with my dessert, dessert came..... I waited....and waited.....and finally got up and left the dining room in FRUSTRATION!! We also did not receive the birthday celebration in the formal dining room like we have on previous cruises but by the end of the cruise, we didn't want to be in the formal dining room. Frankly, we don't know if we're going to sail with Princess ever again due to this horrible behavior! Read Less

We have been on princess over ten times. We enjoyed Princess in the past but if this cruise is any indication of Princess today, I would urge you to spend your Cruise dollars elsewhere. We have been on the Princess Sapphire 3 times. This last time really showed how old, tired, dirty the Sapphire is. Our sliding glass balcony, "Club Class" door did not work and was never properly fixed. We paid for Club Class and got an Ocean View! The Sterling Steakhouse was terrible. All I wanted was a good Steak. Over cooked, Under cooked, way too salty...what a mess. I like eggs benedict for breakfast when I'm on vacation. It did not appear once on the breakfast menu in Club Class dining. I could NOT get it when requested either. Club Class dining is not special at all. In fact it is no different than the regular dining room. They promise tableside food presentations, but there was NO tableside food prep at all. A complete sham. Rust on hull, bulk heads, port holes. Power box on deck 15 hanging by wires. Stateroom furniture old and worn, torn and stained carpet, dents in wall board, yellowing of tub, staind in bathroom grout. Princess cruises have become so predictable. The special "Captain's" events are no longer special, the food and beverage service is very average. Overall I was very disappointed. Read Less

The Southern Caribbean itinerary was very attractive, but we should have done more research on the ship, which was launched in 2006 and badly needs a complete overhaul and refurbishing. The engines are seriously in need of repair, as other reviewers have noted. The engines' poor performance slowed the ship so that one scheduled stop was cancelled, and we have been late in arriving at others, although the Captain prevaricates by repeatedly blaming the problems on the high winds and choppy seas, which really aren't bad at all. The water on our deck was shut off for 150 minutes one afternoon "due to urgent maintenance" that we were told about in a notice put in our stateroom the night before. The cabins are filthy in places (mold in the shower, soiled headboards above bed, stained sheets, etc.), and white paint splatters or bird poop cover both balcony chairs. We have taken more than 20 cruises and have sailed on Princess more than five times since 1996, but this is our worst cruise ever in terms of food and service. Many servers in the buffet are rude and unhelpful, cutting in front of passengers and saying nothing. Others working on the ship show very little concern for passengers and have no common courtesy. They need to be fired or retrained. For example, roughly one hundred passengers were kept standing outside the ship for 5-7 minutes in a sudden rainstorm as the crew blocked the entrance and fumbled around, doing nothing that we could observe before letting us board the ship and offering absolutely no apologies or excuses. The coin changer in the laundry room was out of order, forcing us to go to the Customer Service Desk, where some working there are ill-informed and have acted as if they didn't want to be disturbed. We choose this trip because it was going to our favorite stops with Curacao and Grenada being the top of our list. Several weeks prior to our trip we were notified that Grenada had been deleted from our travels due to engine mechanical problems. When we tried to call Princess (twice) to inquire why Grenada was deleted we gave up waiting to talk to someone after waiting for over an hour the first time. The second time we called was just shy of an hour wait to talk to a human. The representative told us the ship was running at half speed and could not make all the stops advertised and that we could not get a refund because their contract states they can change the itinerary any time they want.Frustrated at the length of time to talk with a customer service representative we did a test - We called back to Princess main number where you choose to book a new cruise or if you already have a reservation to talk to someone and we chose the "Book a Cruise" option this time and were greeted by a life person within 2 minutes. This person told us they only handle new bookings and transferred us to the "Already Booked" option and that is when we waited for almost an hour. This tells us that Princess has plenty of help to book your trip and take your money however after you have booked you don't matter. Once we were on the trip we talked to several other guests that had been on this ship last spring and they stated that this same ship was having the same problems last spring. My question to Princess is: Why do you continue to operate a ship that isn't running properly and why are you advertising a trip you know you can't provide the customer? This not only caused us to not get to see all the islands we wanted to see but our scheduled stops were cut short due to late arrivals and early departures. Guest that had paid for shore excursions were told that they could not get refunds because the ship was late which is not right if it is due to your failure to repair your ships in a timely manner. On our second day of our cruise we found a bedbug on our bed. We were impressed that the room steward immediately changed the linen and reported this problem to his supervisior. His supervisor told us a team would fully inspect the room the next day. Close to 11PM after we had already gone to bed we were called and offered a room (for the night) until the team could inspect the room completely. We turned down the offer since we had already gone to bed and it sounded like it would only be for one night. If the room had been offered right away hours earlier when we first reported the incident we would have taken them up on the offer. What I did ask for at that time was a letter acknowledging that this incident with the bedbug had happened to protect us incase we took home some of their shipmates (bedbugs) and had to treat our home to get rid of them. After several days had gone by and we had not received a letter we asked to talk to the hotel manager. We then found a canned (white washed ) letter stating that Princess was sorry for the problem we experienced in our stateroom. It also stated that we could pursue the matter further after we left the ship by contacting Princess customer service shoreside. Not once did the letter mention that a bedbug was found in our room! We still insisted on meeting with the hotel manager which we got later on a sea day. We didn't get any more information from him, than the letter offered, other than he assured us that customer service would take care of us should we have a problem. For the reasons mentioned above we will choose another cruise line to sail with in the future. Yes we know these problems could happen with any cruise line however it is how the cruise line chooses to handle the situation that frustrates us. We have been loyal customers with Princess for almost 20 years now but feel like our loyalty doesn't matter. Our suggestions to them is the following: #1, treat your "Already booked customers" with the same respect as the "New Customers" and have enough staff on hand to answer phone questions in the same timely manner. #2, Don't sell a trip you know you can't provide. This is false advertising in our book. Fix your ships in a timely manner and don't impact other travelers over a long period of time due to your failure to repair your ship. #3, If a incident happens: Own up to it! A simple letter from hotel management would have satisfied us, just knowing Princess would take care of us if we had needed their support later. The lack of response and white washed letter not stating the issue told us we were on our own and Princess was only concerned about themselves. Also having spent 10 days in a room that we found a bedbug in creeped us out on the whole trip. We should have been moved for the remainder of the trip so that we didn't have to deal with the thought of bedbugs joining us on this cruise. Read Less

This was to be a get away to make up for a trip that ended because of a family tradgedy. The ship was fine, but the extra amenities were lacking. We tried the special dining at the steak house and the porterhouse was chewy and the filet mignon that replaced it was not much better. The wine package was not adequately explained and could only be used in a specific dining venue. There were only a few wines that met the criteria for inclusion and others were surcharged although there was no refund if the cost was below the ceiling price. The entertainment was professional and well done, although I was a tad surprised, when a Motown show had no black singers or dancers. None of the shows had any black entertainers. The spa offered a thermal package, but the only difference between it and the regular free salon activities were plastic sandals, and a robe. Although there was a pool, it was not private with the exception that no children were admitted. The general ship population was able to use it at any time. The balcony cabin we had was not private because the Promenade was just outside and on weather permitting days had a steady stream of people traipsing by at all times. The cabin steward was excellent and everything was done promptly and effeciently. The regular dining menu, service and quality was very good. The excursions offered by the ship were very expensive and did not live up to expectations. One port was bypassed because of weather and safety concerns. I had expected this trip to exceed the amenaties and experiences we have previously had with Norweigian, but alas they did not. Read Less

Let me start off by commanding the crew who fought through adversity and came out shining. Kudos to all who worked on this voyage of so many things wrong. We got into Ft. Lauderdale 3 days early to relax and do a little sightseeing - whoops - it rained most of the three days! But, we did have a great Valentine's dinner at the Old Heidelberg Inn close our Best Western hotel. The staff at this hotel desperately require training in customer relations at minimum. Actually, they should be fired! But that is another review on Trip Advisor. Embarkation was quick and actually running early. Got to our cabin (B755) at the back of the ship with a great stern view, nice balcony and just the right size of room for 2 weeks of togetherness. Then, on to explore a bit until our luggage arrived. Nice layout to public rooms, but some of the lounges appeared to be "add-ons" becoming part of the hallways. What happened top intimate Barrs? We did find one tucked away - the Explorers Lounge. This is where the trivia contests were conducted each evening which made for some entertaining evenings. Speaking of entertaining - the floor shows in the Princess Theatre were wonderful. Super talent on display with every musical. We did not take in the standup comedy shows (interfered with Trivia). We did not pack any formal wear so we ate at the buffet most days (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Only had two breakfasts in the dining room and only three dinners on the non-formal days. Oh, and we tried Steamers as an add-on one evening when they had a two for one sale. Food - what a major disappointment since our last cruise (trans-panama) three years ago! We were served in the buffet, because there was an Norovirus outbreak on the previous sailing. You pointed to what you wanted and they put it on your plate. Hand washing before , after, and even during meal time. Enforced. Which is good and the staff did wonders. But the stuff they were serving up was not great. I have had better at a Chinese buffet at out local Chinese Restaurant in the town I live in - in the boonies of Canada. To order wine with your dinner was a task for the computer literate only. The Medallion app only worked some of the time. Twice we did not get the wine ordered and once we got charged but no wine showed up. To get coffee at any meal time you had to line up to have it served by crew. There were no floaters serving anything - they were all tied up in the buffet area. We got tired of shambling for coffee at breakfast on our third day out - we decided to have brekkie in the dining room. Fine, if you have an hour or so to have a simple meal. Service was super slow and not very attentive to your needs for coffee refill or any pastry or bun. The salmon served at breakfast was near raw and I ended up not eating more than two mouthfuls - c'mon folks - prepare food to guest standards - not some chef that is used to a spoonful of near raw salmon with little crackers. North Americans do not eat that way. Fish or sausages or bacon, eggs, toast, coffee (lots) and serve it up quick - not 45 minute waits. So that was a bust although we did try once more later in our cruise - same result - not to be tried again. Dinner was a long drawn out experience-- a good hour longer than breakfast. And again the food was not dining room quality. Except for one night we had steak and that was very good. So Princess got one out of three on dinners. None on breakfast. Steamers was just OK - a bit too greasy for my tastes. Also somewhat tasteless. At our second port my wife had an accident requiring 5 stitches at the ship's medical centre. That was traumatic enough but the shore excursion folks (on who's tour it happened) - were so sorry it happened they sent my wife a Stanley bear as a "get well" wish. But the medical centre charged us over $900 for 5 stitches. Still fighting with Princess Insurance on that one. After our stop in Curacao - we were supposed to go to Aruba - no way with the outbreak of Norovirus. So we headed back to Ft. Lauderdale a day early. Yes, they put us up at a nice resort (JW Marriott Turnbury Golf resort) but lunch for two (salad and a sandwich) hit $65. A bit out of my league. Too much drama for what was supposed to be a relaxing trip. Read Less

For us this was the cruise of a life time for us. Celebrating a Birthday, 45th wedding anniversary and retirement Cruise. We live on the east coast. And proberly will not go west ever again. So we picked this one. The itinerary was great. The island of Moorea was the most beautiful island we have ever seen. True paradise. We have seen every island in the Caribbean, nothing even comes close. Oh well the ship. This is the 5th cruise line. Our 10th cruise. Our first and (last) on Princess. Top to bottom I can complain about everything. It would be to long and nobody would read it. I will try to keep it short. You have to understand a 28 day cruise is for older people. A lot of snobs. Just rude. For the most part their head was up their ...!! Average age 70 to 80. We are 66. They think they had money. Well if they did they wouldn't be on this cruise. They would be on the high end lines or they would go to there villa. The ship had a bad layout. Food not good. Entertainment terrible. Nothing to do on sail days. Could't wait to get of that ship. Most of the staff was new on their first contract. So most of the service was not good. Language barrier was a problem. Most of the workers did not seem happy. Internet was a problem. The good- Casino,International Cafe,Wine Bar. We did meet some good guest. 9 Read Less
