Let me start by saying Princess is not a party boat. My wife and I just turned 30 and love Princess for this reason. If you're looking for spring break and a liquor waterfall being poured into your mouth by a dancing bear you should find another cruise haha. You can definitely have a blast and drink and be crazy but the Princess experience is definitely not built around this concept. Alaska is for nature lovers: This really is the last frontier. It's incredible, from the endless view of mountains torn through by the neon blue glaciers, to the real wildlife surrounding you. By real wildlife, I mean not in a petting zoo, free of charge, raw wildlife. We saw a bear on our nature walk, we saw whales while eating breakfast on the ship, sea lions fighting for salmon in Ketchikan, glacial ice falling into the ocean. We take nature for granted because we can watch it on Facebook and TV whenever we want. Seeing the real thing is priceless and truly unmatched. Go on this adventure. Weather: Do your research. just because it's Alaska doesn't mean its the frozen tundra. Know what the weather is averaging around the time you want to depart. The inside passage is where we cruised through ( Seattle> Juneau> Skagway> Glacier Bay> Ketchikan> Victoria, BC) and we stayed on top of the weather until the day before we cruised. Bring a light wind/rainproof jacket. This area is a rainforest, the second largest in the world! For August time, bring lots of light layers and a waterproof backpack. We were glad to be able to strip down into t-shirts during the hikes and throw them into a backpack for later. Overall I found the adverse weather nice and enjoyed how the fog and clouds complimented the scenery. Cruise experience: We chose to get a balcony at the risk of my motion sickness. It was well worth it. The gentle... Sometimes strong breeze was nice when I felt a little off and the view will help you forget about everything else. The staff is highly attentive, very knowledgeable, and generally appear to be enjoying themselves. I have friends who work on cruise ships and have spoken of the long hours so I have more appreciation for the fantastic customer service we were given. The food is AMAZING. I can't imagine anyone besides a Micheline star chef having any complaints about this cuisine. If you enjoy the casino they have all of the expected games and slots you would hope for. I don't gamble so I don know much more other than you are allowed to smoke while actively playing there. All in all I would highly recommend this trip. If you absolutely hate rainy cold weather or are trying to get away from it maybe look at another cruise. Read Less

The cruise was part of my husband's bucket list. He loves Alaska and thought it would be a great way to introduce me to the state's beautiful scenery, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The experiences on the ship were a bit different. I'm sure the staff are overworked, and probably have very little time off, but when you save for something this special, you expect to be treated a little better than I feel we were treated. I don't remember many smiles and I don't think we were welcomed by one person once we were on the ship, other than by our nice room steward. The buffet was just "ok." The first one was really bad and we were a bit worried about how the rest would be. It got a little better, but we were treated quite rudely as we would come in to the buffet. I accidentally went out the wrong way, and was reprimanded. Actually, "reprimanded" is a good word for a good amount of the cruise. I know they are worried about germs on the ship, so expect germ police to not let you go into food area without putting anti bacteria gel on your hands. Don't even think of walking in with glass or coffee in hand, even though there were few available tables to put down your drinks. At the buffet, we were constantly looking for tables. One afternoon we came upon another section of the buffet and when we went in that line, we were told we must leave because it was a religious buffet and only certain people could eat there. Yet, there was no sign to signify it was a "private group" section. So, another reprimand.... The anytime dining, where we had most dinners, was generally good. We enjoyed the meals and meal variety. Service was ok, but certainly nothing to make us feel like we were on a special experience. I think once the pre-tipping was arranged on the ships, the need to provide service anything over ok went away. We did enjoy a balcony breakfast on our anniversary. The selection of food was very good. We loved the whole balcony experience and beautiful views along the way. Mountains, glacier, whales, watching sea planes coming and going in the ports, all were wonderful. The variety of tv shows on the room was even good-but expect to see many commercials pushing things to buy on the ship. Our room was very comfortable and we enjoyed our room steward, who worked hard through the large number of rooms he had to make us all happy. The entertainment we saw was enjoyable. I loved the speaker who shared his experience as a camera man on the "Deadliest Catch" show. I enjoyed the naturalist's talks very much and gained some good history and widlife lessons. All "North to Alaska" presentations were enjoyable and informative. We were disappointed that one evening we went to hear a duo sing Fleetwood Mac songs, but the equipment failed so they had to cancel after singing one song. Onboard the ship, they do really push to sell the jewelry and other services at very high prices. We went on two excursions. The White Pass Train Ride and the Gondola ride. They were both fun. The port stops were great, but boy are there way too many jewelry stores, and the gift shops all have the same things over and over. I had no idea Alaska was so commercialized and touristy. Getting on and off the ship was a piece of cake. There were just lots of little things that could have made the experience one to remember as excellent. Instead, we went away feeling just a little letdown, but still had a very good time. Read Less

We chose this cruise as our 35 anniversary celebration and had always had wonderful cruises previously with Princess. We did the 12 day United Kingdom with Kirkwall. The ports were wonderful, we had no complaints with the itinerary at all. The ship was a disappointment. We hated the buffet set up. Narrow hallways that blocked you view of what was available and you had to keep backtracking and searching for food because you missed it and couldn’t see where it was. Top that off with mediocre food and it was a big disappointment. The main dining room wasn’t much better. The menu was slanted heavily towards seafood which is fine if you eat it my husband doesn’t. The beef was usually tough and the soups were very salty. Otherwise the food was very under seasoned. I ordered chicken satay one night that was billed as spicy. It had no flavour at all let alone spicy. The pizza restaurant Alfredo’s was great for food and wait staff the maitre’d was unreasonable and wouldn’t seat you where requested even if the place was half empty. The Crown grill was excellent but I don’t think you should have to pay extra to get decent food on a very expensive cruise. The entertainment was dull and uninteresting in the theatre, in the main atrium it was actually quite good. Read Less

I enjoyed the cruise, but the Effy jewelry personell conducted a raffle for those buying jewelry. I bought my wife a ring that cost almost 3 grand. There were 3 prizes. The same person won all of the prizes. This is almost certainly impossible to happen if done randomly, i DID NOT EXPECT TO WIN BUT I DID NOT EXPECT THE SAME PERSON TO WIN ALL PRIZES. Also no drink container delivered to my room even though we ordered drink package for soda and virgin drinks. I was therefore unsure where these could be obtained until after third day, I finally took my own container and asked the person behind the drink counter in casual dinning room, who told me. I would go again but please correct these problems for a perfect score. Disney has drinnk stations free throughout ship. It would be nice to have an onboard movie theatre with current movies. We planned to meet family in Dublin in mid September, and came across this cruise - the 12 day British Isles portion - which fit perfectly with our timing. We flew from Canada (Edmonton via Westjet) to LGW, and immediately took the train from the airport directly to Southampton. There we had an enjoyable evening at the Regent Guest House - a quiet, early dinner and then to sleep to overcome the jet lag. The next morning, after an excellent included breakfast at the Regent, and short ride to the cruise terminal, we were on board the Royal Princess in under one hour. That was about 12:30 and our mini suite was ready. It was a first time in a mini suite on any ship, and we enjoyed the extra room - full sized couch and bathtub in particular. The Royal has most of its offerings centred on the Piazza area - lovely to look at but also an area which proves to be very busy with so many of the facilities adjacent. That brings me to the shortfalls on this beautiful ship: too much concentration in close proximity; no promenade deck at all, despite one being called 'promenade', buffet is broken up in such a way that it is hard to get a good overview of what was offered; rather poor selections in the buffet overall. We enjoyed anytme dining each evening and food was generally good. We also did the steak house twice and it was very good. We want to just one show in the theatre - a magician, which was worthwhile. We did not spend much time overall on the entertainment. We totally enjoyed the main reason for booking this cruise: the ports. It was an opportunity to visit some places we would not otherwise have seen - Guernsey and Orkney. It was a chance to confirm what we expected - we will now return for more extended visits to Ireland and Scotland. And finally a true highlight - our Le Havre, France stop which allowed us to visit the Canadian D-Day landing location Juno Beach. A fantastic and moving day! I must conclude with this: the crew on this ship was excellent - especially our cabin steward, Warren. He was truly outstanding. Overall this was an enjoyable cruise in which the ports and excursions were the true stars. Read Less

My wife and I have always wanted to go on an Alaskan Cruise and we spend months pouring over reviews and options for different cruise lines. After all of that, Princess seemed to be the obvious choice given the positive reviews and large number of accommodations. So, my wife and I booked it in celebration for our 25th wedding anniversary and were not at all disappointed. We felt as though we were treated as a king and queen from the fine dinning every evening, to quick food and snacks throughout the day to the steward caring for our cabin throughout the day. If we stopped by our cabin to use the freshen up, the next time we returned it had been tidied up! The productions are of Broadway quality and the other entertainment was well organized and well run. We were delighted with our experience and will cherish it for our lifetime. Thank you Princess!! Read Less

We liked the selection of food at the buffet but the taste wasn’t great nor the preparation. I got sick after the first night after eating there the day before (horrible diarrhea & vomiting) or lunch from the Gastric Pub that same day. Share restaurant was great, the only one with good food. The Crown restaurant, my husband had tender filet, mine was tough. I should have taken a picnic basket like Yogi bear. Would I go with Princess again? Yes, definitely. I’ll just be more picky with food. Excursions through Princess were ok except for the 4 hr. Ketchikan, too expensive, boring but super nice people running it. Embarkation & disembarking was easy & impressive! Great service by all employees. Cabin dated but new ship on the way to replace this one ( yay!) entertainment , ok. Casino:so so( small, boring). Train ride in Skagway was a don’t miss excursion! Brought me to tears because it was so beautiful. Ship balcony stateroom was worth the extra money for us. Would go with Princess again, just wish the food was better & less people spreading germs- not everyone used hand sanitizer before getting food in buffet line. Our first cruise- will go again with Princess. Read Less

Words can not express what a wonderful time my wife and I had on this cruise. Everyone we had direct contact with was amazing. Our cabin steward Raul was so fast at refreshing the room it was unreal. The dining staff in the club class section of the Bordeaux dining room were all great. We filled out recognition cards for all 7 of the staff in the area as well as Raul. We wish they had mentioned the cards before the next to last day though. It would have given us more time to leave comments. The ship itself was great. There are some areas where I could see some wear and tear but it's also 15+ years old. We went on the tour of the ship on the last day of the cruise. I would definitely recommend it for people interested in the technical and behind the scenes aspects. The engine control room and bridge were the highlights for me. The shows and activities were enough to keep us busy most of the time. There were a couple of occasions where one thing overlapped another and we could not make it to the second. Over all we would certainly do it again! Read Less

We did a 3 nights cruise from van to lax and it was the best relaxation ever! The ship is good and clean. Our check in was smooth and we had a very nice balcony room overlooking the ocean. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. Our housekeeper was superb and cleaned our room at least 3 times a day. Haha. The food was great and there was a good selection of everything. The Italian restaurants were great as well. The boat is no slouch when it comes to entertainment. The comedy and broadway shows are at par with Las Vegas shows. There is always something going on in every hour. The live band was good and the night club is bumping. There is absolutely no point in staying in your stateroom unless you are sleeping or sick. Overall a great experience and will definitely do a cruise with them again. Read Less

Alaska was on our bucket list so we did one week land tour and one week ship cruise. Princess did not disappoint! The staff onboard was professional and courteous. Our cabin and all public areas were always clean and neat. We started in Anchorage for the land portion of our tour. The hotel we were in, Hotel Captain Cook was located within easy walking distance to shopping, eating, and park/waterfront trail. -The Star Princess was very nice. The cabins are plain, but are in good repair with plenty of storage space (closet and under bed for suitcases). Plenty of hangers in the closet and a separat area of shelves with a safe. Our steward was very efficient, friendly, and professional (Albert Garcia). He kept our cabin clean and neat, assisted us in timely pressing of our formal night clothes, and he was always mindful of our coming and going in order to take care of our daily cabin cleaning and nightly turndown service. -The cabin was just the right size. We were in L206 and had a balcony (I think a must for an Alaskan cruise). We were on the port side, which is good for a southbound cruise. Our cabin had the basic furniture and was in good repair The A/C could have been colder for us. We slept with the balcony door open and still was not cool enough for us. The bathroom is fine so long as only one person is in it at a time. Above our room was the aerobics room, but we never heard any noise or music from it. -Dining was great. Our service was always efficient and professional (food and drinks served timely). The menu options each night were great (king crab legs, lobster, always a fish dish, vegan dish, etc.). In addition to the dinner option each night, there were the Princess standbys offered every night (i.e. shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad, salmon, fettuccini, cheesecake). -Horizon Court is the buffet option offered for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was open 0600-2300 each night. It had great variety and quality food options. I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful service here too. Tables were quick turned over (so no long trolling for a table), beverage service was professional and timely. The buffet areas were always clean, which is not easy task with 3000+ guests coming through at least once, if not two, three, or four times a day. There was also the International Café (paninis, sandwiches, desserts), pizza café (pretty good pizza it was), and the burger grill (more than burgers (veggie burger, chicken, hotdogs, brauts). If you can't find food you like onboard...it's YOU, not the ship. Also, on sea days there is afternoon tea, and if you don't like the time of the tea (3:30-4:15), you can get very similar sandwiches, scones, sweets in the Horizon Court. -We did not partake in any of the entertainment (except the married couple game show, always a great laugh on any cruise line). I particularaly enjoyed the Naturalist onboard. She was a wealth of information on the wildlife and environment in Alaska. She would take times to point out wildlife over the loudspeaker (public places only, not your cabin). In your cabin you could tune in on TV to hear her. You could be anywhere on the ship and know whether to look port or starhboard for whales, sea otters, Bald eagles, etc. -Anywhere we interacted staff, (dining, guest services, bars) we encountered friendly and professional staff. They even offered a Breast Cancer 5K walk onboard during one of the at sea days. A $15 minimum donation, which Princess matches. The gym looked great. We looked at it the first day with the best of intentions, but never got around to using it :) Ports/Excursions: Lots of great options, but overpriced as any cruise line. All the ports we pulled into were an easy walk into town. No need for a bus or taxi if you are just walking around town. -WHITTIER, AK- This was a transfer, train to ship. We did not visit Whittier and that was fine with us. Not much to see there. HUBBARD GLACIER, AK - Absolutely wonderful. We had a balcony cabin so the Capatain turning the ship from port to starboard and allowing time to view the glacier was wonderful! We kicked back on our balcony with a beer and enjoyed glacier calving and beauty. GLACIER BAY, AK- Great! So many glaciers and wild life to see. The scenery and time spent here was perfect. Appreciated the time spent facing glaciers on port and starboard sides. SKAGWAY, AK- Our zipline shuttle tour guide was great. Zipling was okay (11 lines, not that long). We did one in Cabo years ago that we liked better. It said there was a snack included which equated to marshmellows and water. The town of Skagway was cute with self guided walking tours. Most of the shopping (as in all the towns, was owned by the cruise lines. I prefer the local shops). Loved the Skagway Brewery. We also had time to hike a bit in Skagway...good uphill hike! JUNEAU, AK - We spent most of our time at Mendenhall Glacier (Tongass Nation Park). Great time hiking the trails, visiting the Visitor Center. We also had a beer at The Hangar in town. It was nice to look over the water and watch the bush planes take off and land. KETCHIKAN, AK- My favorite port! We kayaked, walked the town, Creek St. is quaint, and the salmon spawning trail was interesting. We had a beer at the local Fraternity Order of Eagles (FOE) and sat out on their deck on Creek St....watched seals playing with each other. The beers were only $3.50 each and I thought it was very nice of this private club to let us hang out there. VANCOUVER, CA - Did not see, just a transfer. Read Less

It was a great deal and affordable for ys to bring our daughter and new son-in-law on their first cruise. We attended many of the onboard activities including Once Upon A Dream. What a fantastic production. The crab legs at the original Tracy’s Crab Shack were incredible and Joshua loves Tracy, loves working at the crab shack and was very attentive to us! What a joy to meet someone who thoroughly enjoys his job! Made our Juneau stop totally worth the wait as we had to postpone the port stop due to high winds and rough currents. The captain was calm and explained that issue in detail to keep all the staff and passengers in the loop. We were lucky enough to attend the chefs dinner and were treated like royalty by all the staff but especially by the chef and maitre’d. The food was delicious and the details of each dish made me want to go home and try the recipes myself! The next day we received additional treats delivered to our stateroom from the maitre’d as a thank you for attending the dinner. It was us who should be doing the thanking! It was an excellent experience that just can’t be repeated! Our cabin steward, Leo, took great care of us ensuring our room was impeccably clean, stocked with everything we required and requested. We met him right after we boarded and he worked hard to assist us in having a fantastic voyage. We were able to board very quickly and actually got to our stateroom well ahead of the actual “all ready” alert. Leo was there waiting to greet us with that beautiful smile and a sincere welcome! We couldn’t ask for a better cruise - from start to finish! Read Less

Princess had some great pricing on this one as it was in the storm season. Food was exceptional and the Captain was an outstanding communicator with a very strong customer orientation Weather was not great but we avoided the big storms and didn't ,miss any ports. Excellent onboard entertainment and the ship was in great condition. The pizza at Alfredo's on the sixth floor was the best we ever had. They will customize your pizza, have a great menu and, best of all, there is no extra charge. Open 11:00 to 11:00. Ports were nice and we took several excursions. The production shows were outstanding (Fiera, Bravo and Story of Dance). Princess offers great itineraries and opportunities to chill out, relax and reconnect. While there are lots of things to do onboard with a packed list of activity choices, it is not an adventure cruise line where you do rock-climbing, water-sliding and zip-lining. The Regal Princess is a beautiful relatively new ship and accommodates over 3500 passengers. Great for seniors, couples, viewing the world, gourmet dining and just plain relaxing. Read Less

Our trip began with five days in Paris at the Novetel Les Halles. Because we booked the hotel a little late we were not able to book the transfer from the hotel to Le Havre. Instead our transfer was from the Gare Montparnasse which necessitated quick Sunday morning taxi ride arranged by the hotel. A friendly Princess Representative quickly assisted with boarding the coach and we were on our way to Le Havre. Once in Le Havre luggage was gathered, cruise cards obtained, French Boarder Control navigated and we were boarding the Royal Princess in under 10 minutes. When we travel we look forward to the unexpected experiences. Our goal is to be prepared but also ready to enjoy changes to plans. On another cruise, a strike in Le Havre necessitated a change in itinerary to Belgium which became one of the highlights of that trip. We were looking forward to Bergen, Belfast, and Newfoundland this cruise. Weather has a way of changing plans. In an effort to keep the passengers, crew, and ship safe Princess quickly put together alternative ports and excursions in Vigo, Spain and Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal. We must applaud them for their effort to keep us safe but also to offer us unexpected experiences. Not only did passengers receive a $200 onboard credit but also a very generous 20% future cruise credit for fare paid between South Hampton and New York due to the change in itinerary. What a great reason to book another cruise(s) with those ports. The crew on the Royal Princess was top notch. Each crew member was friendly and helpful. The behavior of several passengers towards crew was cringe worthy. However, the Royal Princess crew handled the situations with grace and dignity. Fixed dinning was our choice this time and each meal was enjoyed at a leisurely pace rather than the goal of many chain restaurants to reseat the table every 35 – 45 minutes. Our wait staff allowed us to enjoy each course before bringing the next. The food each breakfast and dinner was well prepared and delicious. The waiter and assistant anticipated our needs and worked hard to make every meal enjoyable. We mentioned that Indian food was a favorite and one evening we were surprised with an Indian feast prepared just for us! The Stateroom Steward freshened our stateroom quickly during our breakfast. The bathroom was always cleaned with fresh linens twice a day. Each day she made the effort to greet us and ask whether we needed anything. Vines became the favorite place to enjoy a glass of wine before and after dinner. The staff at Vines was outstanding. After our first visit at the beginning of the cruise we were greeted by name each time we visited. Due to the change in itinerary some of Vines patron’s favorite items became scarce. Rocky, the Vines Bartender, used his contacts at the other bars on board to find adequate supplies of customer favorites. All too soon, the cruise came to an end. The UN General Assembly made the transfer to the Hilton Midtown a bit slower. The coach driver kept us entertained and informed about the sites along the way. The Hilton Midtown was in an excellent location. The Princess Representative worked hard to make sure that we were at the airport in adequate time despite the scarcity of taxis, heavy traffic, and closed streets. We look forward to sailing with Princess Cruises again. Read Less

We chose this cruise hoping for spectacular scenery and we weren't disappointed! It was end of season and prices were discounted in every port because businesses wouldn't see cruise ship passengers until next spring. Weather was outstanding, blue skies most of the time so snow-covered mountain ranges were visible. Excellent photography opportunities. Sailing into Glacier Bay was a special treat. Watching and hearing multiple glaciers calving is not to be missed. Ice-blue pieces of glacier floated by the ship. It's amazing that only 1/3 of the chunk is visible above the water line. Some were as big as houses, so it gives you an idea of how massive they are. Many had sea lions basking on top. Food and service were outstanding. Club Class cabin had separate anytime dining area with no waiting. Food was better than Celebrity which up until this cruise was our favorite. The only negative was food at Sabatini's which was lukewarm at best, and tomato sauce was runny and bland. Don't waste your money for a "premium" meal. . Read Less

We just disembarked on Sunday 9/23 from our 10-day Alaskan cruise out of SF. Alaska exceeded our expectations in so many ways. We had perfect weather too. This was our second full suite experience with Princess. The first time I was probably more wowed since it was the first time and I wasn't fully informed of all of the amenities included. Something we had not experienced previously was that we barely stopped walking when arriving at the SF cruise terminal. We arrived at the check-in counter for priority boarding and were briskly walked over to a personal escort who escorted us from the terminal all the way to our table in club class dining. I was pretty wowed at that. I don't know if it is unique to the Grand, the SF terminal embarkation experience, or the way that Princess has improved upon their service from our last. Our escort was much younger and in better shape than us so we were a little winded when we sat down at our table. LOL! We enjoyed our first of many meals on board. The announcement was made a couple of times that staterooms would be available at 1:00, which was perfect since it was around that time when we finished our lunch. Things would go a little downhill from there. We got to our suite and our luggage was already waiting for us so we unpacked so we could get on with our vacation. It was obvious right away that our air conditioning was not working in our room. We called guest services and they sent someone out pretty quickly and got it working. Thank goodness! Meanwhile, our welcome champagne arrived. Our room steward informed us that it was not cold so he put it in our refrigerator, which was not working. It had to be replaced after someone came to fix it and deemed it not working. We never did drink our little bottles of champagne. A little disappointment that would later add up to kind of a let down of the suite life. Princess appears to over promise and under deliver when it comes to what they are brave enough to put in writing as what we are to consider our baseline service in a suite. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip, excursions, dining, etc. We had excellent service in pretty much all of the venues on the ship. It's weird, but I feel like the staff working in the buffet are the friendliest. Club class dining is good, but I have to be honest, I will not pay extra for that again. The same food is served in the rest of the dining room, except for the special entrees, and entrees cooked by the head waiter. Those were great, but I would be just as happy with the regular dining. This trip it seemed like our dinner was a least a 1.5 hour event and I think my patience was waning at times. Every waiter and asst. waiter was excellent and friendly. There was one waiter that was terrible. He got our order wrong, disappeared for long periods...I think it was noticeable by other guests and other wait staff. He was definitely not into his job and I don't imagine he will last long in this industry. Overall, we were impressed with the wait staff in all areas of the ship from bars, piazza area, lido deck, buffet, etc. The level of service is one of the things we think Princess is good at and why we will likely continue cruising with them. So the enhanced turn down service, that is supposed to be fresh linens each night. Well, after several days, I had to ask for new pillow cases. When I went to guest services to express my concern about our linens not having been changed I was not given a customer service oriented response. I had asked for the Hotel Manager, but was refused at my request to speak with him. Without any explanation, one of the ladies picked up the phone and called to tell someone about the issue, but no one ever followed up to make sure anything was done and we were never told that the problem had been taken care of. I walked away annoyed. I wasn't going to spend my vacation complaining to someone who didn't care. Alaska impressed beyond anything we expected. Views for days and we had sunny skies throughout, except for Victoria. No rain, but a little cloudy there. That was still great in our book! I highly recommend the Misty Fjords wilderness cruise in Ketchikan. The Fjords were breathtaking and the Allen Marine crew were so great! All of them love their job and it shows! I know we will make this cruise again because I could never tire of the views we had. I'm sure the weather will never be as good as we had it, but I would still go. A little about the Grand Princess. Yes, she is a little dated and could use a sprucing up. It didn't impact our enjoyment. We did notice that some of the seating is in desperate need of replacing like those little sofas in the Explorer Lounge. Other than that, there just was not a glaring issue. The Grand is in need of a little TLC, but it still a great ship and I'd sail her again. We are sailing on the Sky Princess next and yes, we are looking forward to being one of the first to experience her newness. Maybe my feelings will change about the older ships after I experience a brand new one, but I kind of doubt it. I wish they would offer a tour of the crew area. I would love to see how they live and what their day to day experience is like. The crew interest me a great deal since they all come from faraway places and live a life I will never experience. I don’t think they realize that we really have an interest in them and their story. Oh, and we did a little test since we were given so many great coupons for free stuff at the shops in port. We had little to no time to shop since our excursions took up most of our port time. Definitely not a bad thing, but we wanted to scoop up all those free items promised by the shopping lady on board. We did get the charm bracelet and charms from Diamonds International and the free tote bag from Del Sol. The charm bracelet is so low quality I could not even gift it to someone. The tote bag from Del Sol is actually cute and useful. However, my husband ran over there solo and ended up falling victim to buying color changing finger nail polish for our granddaughters at the tune of $31! It was a buy 3 get two free though! LOL! Speaking of deals…do not go to the Lotus Spa and buy any spa service at regular price. We normally do not do spa services, but we were in full vacation mode and paid full price for a couple’s massage only to learn a couple of days later we could have done the same for half the price! Lesson learned! 419 days until our next cruise voyage so we will be working on getting in better shape over the next year plus. Read Less

Watch you tube reviews of different ships before making your choice. Cruising costs a good chunk, but it should be well worth it. Alaska and it's ports were well worth it. However, ship staff, buffet, anytime dining, staterooms and staff helpful/friendliness fell flat. If you do choose to cruise with Princess, I highly recommend opting for club class. It's a little extra, but the perks are worth it. The dining alone is worth it. Club Class wait staff were exceptional and friendly. They always made us feel like guests. The food was excellent. I'm Italian and I'm usually leery of red sauce. Their sauce knocked my socks off. We never had a wait or a bad meal in CC. We often walked past anytime dining and saw long wait times. Important, if you want to catch excursions/shows. Don't waste your calories at the pub lunch. Fish fry was heavy and soggy. If you're going to pay an extra $29 pp in the Crown Grill Steakhouse, get the filet or the surf and turf. Filet in the dining rooms is great. Cooked perfectly every time. The buffet is a completely other story. They have hand sanitizing stations at the beginning of each line, but I hardly saw anyone use it or staff insisting people use it. There was never any seating in the main buffet room. You often had to walk around all the dining areas to find a seat for more than 2 people. Wait staff are there and milling about, but rarely are they helpful or offer to bring water (this is supposed to be a Princess buffet perk). The only time the buffet staff was available to help was when staff, in white coats, were present. I'm assuming they were supervisors. Staff serving the food were not nice. The international cafe staff was not nice, annoyed even. Steer clear of the EFFY store, even if they are offering free jewelry. It's not worth it. The Effy manager was high pressure, unfriendly and made us feel like we were wasting her time. The jewelry is overpriced costume. As luck of the draw, we had a Princess musician staying next to us. He played his guitar a couple of times, on the balcony next to us, and that was a wonderful bonus. The Lou Gazzara shows were great. He and the band were great entertainers. Stateroom was really outdated. The bathroom was spacious, but dilapidated with missing and cracked tiles. There is a shower curtain, which I abhor. It sticks to you and if you maneuver it, you'll get water all over the floor. I had to shift the shower head all the way to the side to avoid cleaning the bathroom floor. The view from the balcony was amazing. The balcony itself was outdated. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. The couch, chairs and balcony furniture is not. Trust me, I tried to catch the northern lights from my balcony for a few hours one night. The lounge chairs are not meant to lounge for long periods of time. The steward was efficient and timely. He was pleasant, but barely spoke to us. I don't remember his name, so that tells you something. We've cruised twice with Royal Caribbean and the steward was one of our favorite people on the ship! Overall, the ship staff was lacking, often times unfriendly and annoyed and couldn't be bothered. The exception to this was club class dining. Really, Club Class staff were really great. Although we paid for the friendliness. Overall it was an unforgettable trip. But Alaska is astonishingly beautiful in it's own right. The local people are great and very welcoming. We had a blast everytime we were off the ship. We booked a Viator, an Alaskan Shorline and a Princess excursion. All were great and worth the price. We traveled with our family, all adults, and made some priceless memories . My advice is to really research the ship and read reviews. I would absolutely 100% recommend an Alaskan Cruise that cruises through Glacier bay. The ship is up to you. Even with perks offered, if we cruise princess again, I would try another cruise line, just to compare. Happy Sailing! Read Less

The ship was excellent though too big. We had a balcony cabin on the 16th floor very good with unobstructed views. The staff couldn't be faulted.always smiling even though 50% of elderly passengers were rude and demanding without manners.!!! The children on board were better behaved with better manners than some adults. Not enough seating in the indoor entertainment area's of the ship.(piazza and the theatre's) had to get to an area for the show you wanted to see at least 45mins early. No area around the ship for a good walk the promanade deck only went up each side of the ship and very narrow. The market dining area we felt left left a lot to be desired. most food cooked in oils or butter, no plain or steamed food, no sandwich making facilities. Even though there were several area's of choice the food daily was same, same. The resturaunts were fantastic especially the pizza and sympony dining.the hamburger bar on the deck was good too. Too many people just walking in the dining area's without washing there hands. worry about nova virus with poor hand hygiene. The excursions were fantastic and the tour guides very good value for money and saw a lot of the islands. The ships staff getting you on and of the ship did a fantastic job with the number of people most of them very pushy and rude to the staff and other passengers. We went on this cruise to celebrate our 50th wedding had a fantastic day but because of limited entertainment seating indoors when the weather was too cold to sit on deck we spent most afternoons in our cabin watching the TV . could have done that at home.will go on another princess cruise but will go on a smaller ship. Getting on and off the ship was expidited with reasonable speed at the begining and end of the voyage. couldn't fault that. Overall feeling was that the ship catered for the Chinese and American market rather than the Australian. Read Less

My husband and I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary with an Alaskan cruise aboard the Emerald Princess. Loved the staff and crew! They were professional, friendly, and fun. Strike up a conversation with any of them and you will learn so much about them, where they are from, and get a little glimpse into their lives......very honored to have met everyone we did. The excursions were great. Really enjoyed the catamaran ride to Tracy Arm Fjord to see north and south Sawyer glaciers as well as whales, porpoises, eagles, and a bear. The public decks and the dining areas were always clean. The wait staff and crew were always respectful, courteous, and professional. Loved our mini suite with balcony. Had great views of the sea for whale watching and of the ports and towns. The bed was so comfortable and our steward took such great care of us all week. We were treated like a "PRINCESS" on this cruise. Choosing Diamond Princess was the best. From the time of Embarkation everything is so well organized. The luggage and checking in, the crews are welcoming. The ship is so clean and huge. Everything is there, shopping, casino, spa, swimming and jacuzzi, plus club danceing. The shore excursion they offered are the best and very organize and worth the money. We went to sign up with Princess organized tour and they pick the best tour for experience and money. Dining at Vivaldi was excellent food choices was great and the waiters are so friendly and hard working people. They always make sure that everyone is well attended and have the best dining experience every night. the pizza bar, the bar, the hamburger are always available in case you get hungry in the middle of the day or the night. Entertainment was awesome there are a lot of choice from dancing, singing, bingo, movies and lot more. The stateroom was amazing, clean well organize and have everything you need. Amazing experience, everyone should experience. Princess Cruise the Best. Read Less

We had been on many other ships but this was our second Princess cruise and we were on it for 20 days. Our first was to the Mediterranean for 21 days. The ship is large and nicely layout out. The rooms are typical and comfortable. We loved the food and both in the dinning room and the buffet. The entertainment was diverse and my only complaint is the sound level was too high. Some ships do better than others with this. It was also nice that you didn't have to walk through the casino to get to the dinning room. They try for a smoke free night a couple of times during the cruise but that is really a waste. The movie selection for the outdoor theatre is ok. The sad part was the popcorn they served at the beginning of the movie. It is greasy and poor quality. Carnival does a much better job. The hamburger and hotdog station is limited as well as the pizza selections. Read Less

This was an amazing 60 day cruise that went much faster than we thought. We loved the ports in Asia (all but one in Vietnam) - Enjoyed the activities on board. Liked the smaller ship as you got to know more people. As we were headed to Asia there were Typhoons in the area where we were headed and our Captain with the LA office took our safety into account and we did not get to one of our ports of call. This was a smart move as we did hit rough seas and had we gone to the port it would have been a disaster. As we embarked for our cruise it went smoothly. Princess does well in this area. And at the end of our journey disembarkation went even better. Our cabin was in the front of the ship and on the port side and during the weather we did have waves came over our balcony as we were on deck 8. We are pleased and happy with our 60 day cruise. SUGGESTION Do NOT plan excursions for Sunday's in Asia as this is their holiday and there were way too many people Read Less

Because we wanted to cruise around the Mediterrean and visit certain countries. The special deal was a very good offer. This was our second cruise through Princess line and really enjoyed our first so this was how we came to our decision. We opted for a balcony stateroom this time and to wake up with a different view in the morning was great. The process of embarkation was smooth and staff were wonderful. Food was good and plentiful. The speciality restaurant was very good. Downside is the decor needs sprucing up. Looking a bit shabby. The other problem was with the doona. It was a heavy doona and although we have the airconditioning up high it was very hot. Some other passengers said the same thing. We ended up removing the doona and settled with two sheets instead. The shore excursions were very good. Information was relayed to us promptly and efficiently. The entertainment was excellent! As it was on the previous cruise. Very happy with this. Read Less
