We chose this cruise line because it touted it's high tech Medallion and Medallion related apps (downloaded) from home, all of which malfunctioned. Ocean Compass and Ocean Now required us to sign in repetitively, and frequently told us we had disembarked, were not onboard... we were seated by the main pool on Deck 15. IT staff onboard could not resolve the issue..we were finally told it was the make of our phone....and that upper management knew. They knew and did not inform passengers pre-cruise. Very poor. Entertainment mediocre at best. Food fair unless you wanted to go to non-fare included restaraunts. Anytime dining means 7:30-9:30 PM . Oppressive smell of sewage emanating from the Spa on Deck 16. Do not recommend snorkeling excursion at St. John's...passengers poorly monitored for safety. We have been on several cruise lines, including Disney. This was the worse cruise we have ever taken. Never again. Read Less

This was our fourth cruise on princess 2nd time on the Emerald. Th is was a 14 day cruise. Starting in Rome. 10 ports ending in Barcelona. I recommend this cruise or any cruise going to th is region of the world, we previously did a family land tour of northern Italy so this would be all new territory. We were picked up at our hotel in the Spanish steps area to the Ship. I think it was about Two hours. This trip was my wife and I first time cruising just the two of us. Getting on the ship was very organized and quick dropped off our bags waited about 2 minutes to get to the check in desk received our cards and off to the ship. We had a balcony 14 deck near the front of the ship, same type size room we had when we did Alaskan cruise Two years earlier. Plenty of room for two and our four bags . One thing to know if you never cruised before we bring a heavy 6 foot extension cord with multiple plug ins. The bed was great room clean and our room Stewart was very good always seemed to know when we would leave room always kept clean . There are two dining rooms we ate Da Vinci, and Michelangelo. We ate breakfast almost every day at Da Vinci. . And Dinner at Michelangelo had the best Materdi Carlos the magnificent And our lovely waiter Franco from Mexico. We had anytime dinning but our table was always saved for us we started with just my wife and I and as we made friends we had a table for 6.the food was good some excellent some ok mostly very very good. Franco always new what we’re drinking and never waited long to receive them. I would not recommend the buffet much. We ate there two times . Excursion We did two from the ship. We did Pompeii from Salerno all I can say was the tour guide from the princess ship was horrible he made up stuff and not one time did he take us to a shady area when it was near 100 degrees. My suggestion make all your excursions before you leave home online with reputable companies. We did a excursion in Kotor Montenegro was booked before we left home. We did this from a group of 6 Aussies we met from roll call. We did a speedboat. Blue cave , submarine caves tour with swimming at the blue caves,a very fun 3 hour tour, we then did The Godfather tour booked from princess , this was a very fun day. Great tour guide if your a fan of The Godfather movies you will enjoy this. Our next paid excursion was also not from princess with family we met from roll call. We did Pompeii again from Naples. This was a fantastic tour our guide his name was Sasha was so knowledgeable his father was also a tour guide I told him what the tour guide from the princess ship told us and he said what load of garbage i showed him the pictures I took from the first tour and what the guide told us about that. He was blown away with the crap the first guide told us. Every time there was shade he took us to the shady spots and explained what was the real history, all ”other ports we did either the hop on bus or just walked the towns. We had some of the best food on land ever.seafood was more then fantastic. One thing if your going to book your excursion from princess do it before you get on the ship most of the good excursions sold out very fast. I do recommend using non princess excursion. We made a lot of new friends in this ship. After dinner we would go to crooners bar see the piano player. We did trivia one night. And we watched a few movies on the deck with greasy popcorn. If you drink much including alcohol coffee and water get the drink package we got ours free with our balcony booking so it was worth it. Drinks are not cheap if you buy your own . Bottle water $2.50. Latte $2.50 each . We had a later time to get off the ship in Barcelona our transportation was supposed to pick us up at 10 but after 3 phone calls they finally got there by11.00 there is no place to sit and almost no shade at the Barcelona terminal. Then they took us to the wrong hotel , this was not booked through princess . One thing I would recommend transfers book from princess. If you smoke they have a cigar smoke room or you can smoke on the 16 th deck ... Feel free to ask my anything you would like to know. Read Less

Not to bore my fellow cruisers , imagine : plastic cups , plates and glasses , a daily programme of bingo, quizzes and kids programmes , food you would normally never want to pay good money for and environment where most of the passengers are crowded into a central area to watch their so called" best " entertainment! "Saphire Princess" is your kind of ship . We hoped for refinement , culture and excellence.. what we got was far far from what we hoped.. such a waste of money . Lack of Security presence in public areas was alarming , there was definitely some under age drinking going on and young children seemed to be everywhere on the ship!! Most ships have family zones but parents were doing as they please . We were late arriving at ports , so little time on shore , one port was missed altogether and Princess CHARGE FOR SHUTTLE SERVICE .. Never been charged with any other company.!! Appalling !! Our 6/16/2019 - 6/23/2019 Alaskan cruise on the Star Princess was one of the most horrible cruising experiences we had encountered.  We wanted to celebrate our anniversary and my son’s honeymoon on your Princess Cruise and booked three cabins.  We booked an Alaskan cruise specifically to see the glaciers and to visit BC Canada.   First of all, we were up and on the deck at 5am (per the itinerary) so that we could see the glaciers while passing through Tracy Arm.  After about a half an hour to an hour later we were told that we would not be able to pass through Tracy Arm and that we were going to Endicott instead.  Then we were told that if we looked through binoculars we could see the tip of a glacier.  Really?!? Needless to say we did not get to see any glaciers on this cruise. During the cruise, our toilets backed up twice.  According to some other cruise passengers they also had the same problem.  The next day the same problem occurred and a maintenance worker was sent to our cabin and again had to flush the main line.  My son’s and daughter’s cabins experienced the same toilet issues as did the other passengers along our corridor. Also, during the cruise there was a leak in the ceiling of my daughter’s cabin which occurred around 4:30 am which caused them to wake up to a wet bed and blankets.  Given the multiple situations we had with the toilets we were understandably concerned that it might have been associated with the sewer line issue but was assured that it was not a sewer line leak but was a ventilation leak.   Because my husband and I were celebrating our anniversary we received two gift certificates in our mail slot outside our cabin door.  One was for $25 to spend in the princess shops and one was for $50 towards a spa treatment on port days.  We used the $25 gift certificate at the Princess Vines Novelties gift shop.  At the end of our cruise we noticed that the gift certificate was not credited to our stateroom so I called the customer service desk and told them the problem.  They told me that they did not have any record of any gift certificate but that they do show the charges made at the Vines Novelties shop.  They asked me if I had the gift certificate and I informed them that the salesclerk said that he needed to submit it so that our stateroom could be credited and that he had the gift certificate.  They told me that because they do not reflect anything in their system they are unable to credit it.  Princess did not honor the gift certificate they gave us! As if all of the above was not enough to make this a terrible cruise, as we approached BC Canada we were informed that we would not be porting in BC Canada and would just anchor in place! Really?!? So during this Alaskan cruise with Princess we were not able to see any glaciers (Albeit if we looked through a pair of binoculars we may be able to see the tip of one); the toilets backed up twice; there was a ceiling leak in my daughter’s room; we were provided a gift certificate which was ultimately not honored; and we were not able to port in BC Canada!  Basically, the two main ports (attractions) associated with this cruise which were also the two main reasons for choosing this cruise were not provided for along with the other substantial frustrations mentioned above. I contacted Princess Cruise lines on 6/28/2019 regarding this horrible experience. They informed me that they will research the matter and a customer service representative would contact me soon. It has been almost a month and we when we finally heard back from a customer service representative from Princess Cruise line we were pretty much told that port cancellations are covered as acceptable in our contract and I guess the toilet back ups and ceiling leaks are as well. This is indicative of the type of service you can expect from Princess Cruises! My family loves cruises but we will be choosing a different cruise line for our future cruises! Read Less

Wow what a disappointment! I read the reviews before booking and dismissed the negative ones thinking they were exaggerating. They weren’t. This was the worst cruise of the five I’ve taken. Biggest disappointment was the customer service and appearance of the ship in general. I finally figured out why the staff doesn’t seem to care: there’s a mandatory daily gratuity charged per person so they have no incentive to treat you like “royalty”. $13.50 per person per day - I don’t remember being told about this. So staff is being tipped regardless of service and it shows. This cruise was severely understaffed. The wait at the bar for a simple Diet Coke was maddening. Not one time at the pool did a waiter come around asking for drink orders. Always always had to go get it myself at the bar. Didn’t even have soda in the buffet, had to leave to go to the bar to fill my cup. I bought the soda pass which meant I had to carry around that big cup all the time to have it refilled. I was “upgraded” without being asked to an oceanview. The view was of a lifeboat. It’s laughable. I would rather have kept my interior stateroom. Buffet was unremarkable at best - never once thought wow this is delicious. It was just food. Tables were always dirty - again understaffed and couldn’t keep up with all the people eating there. Tried the dining room once and again not impressed. I really expected this cruise to be like the ones in the past where I just felt pampered and everyone was nice and friendly and happy. Not this crew. I felt like I was imposing more often than not. Our safe in the room quit working after a few days. We just laughed and thought well of course it doesn’t work. They claim this ship was refurbished. What the hell did it look like BEFORE?? It’s so dated that I felt like I’d been had. Harry Potter trivia was an event we attended - it was like a twelve year old’s mom threw together some questions and had us all sit around guessing the answers on paper and boom it was over. Twenty questions and that’s it. Pencil and paper. I mean come ON Princess. It was just pitiful. I heard other people talking and the same thing was being said. Not as good as other cruise lines. I will never again sail with Princess and will go back to Royal Caribbean where they know how to treat their customers and keep the ship clean and the food amazing. Princess is substandard and even smelled of raw sewage towards the end of the cruise. I was glad when it was over actually which is a sad testimony given the money spent. Read Less

It has taken me a few months to write my review for our cruise. I think this was our 4th or 5th cruise with Princess. The embarkation process was very crowded but the staff at the desk were excellent. The ports of call, except for Rio, all seemed about the same. Not much of interest. The food was very disappointing, so much so that we quit going to the dining room and just tried to find the best on the buffet line. The entertainment was disappointing, except for the small groups in bars, etc. Our cabin steward was excellent. The dining staff was excellent. The ship on numerous occasions was either late getting into port or late leaving port. On our last port of call, Buenos Aires, it creating a headache. The ship was late leaving the port before, so we were denied entry to the port by 3 hours. We had booked a day long tour in Buenos Aires - well obviously that didn't happen. We didn't get off the ship until around 3pm. We had many conversations with front desk and the tour desk regarding our tour. No problem with getting the credit, but the tour including our transfer to the airport. We were assured by several people at the front desk and the tour desk that we would still have a transfer. When we were let off the ship we went by bus the a metal building for our luggage. There was no air conditioning and no order to the luggage. You had to try to go from one one of the huge building to the other to find your luggage. We waited in that hot building for almost 2 hours before our luggage arrived. We got in the long line for the airport transfer. After being in line for almost an hour, someone from Princess came over and said we would not have a transfer, there were other people in line that experiences the same issue. We then had to go to another long line (had we known we would have been in that line to begin with) for a taxi. We waited another hour to get a taxi. Thankfully, we had a 9:30pm flight. Even with that late of flight, we barely made it, that was due to a short line for security. The service by Princess was inexcusable. We have sailed around 23 times over the years. I have to say this has soured by taste for cruising. I'm sure we will cruse again, but we will try river cruising next. We will never take a Princess Cruise again. Read Less

Beverage package a joke. You paid for unlimited sodas, juices etc. And 15 alcohol drinks and they only give you one at a time! Couldn't even get 2 to take to your room! Had to keep walking back. Much to their surprise if you did use all 15, then they could have sold more to you! Felt like a teenager being watched. Get up early for an excursion to meet in theater just for them to make a big announcement it was cancelled! We could have slept longer. Need better system to notify guests! The hot tubs were not hot. Our stewardess was wonderful and very attentive to what we needed. The process of getting on the ship was smooth. Leaving was easy, but we were anxious to leave! Advice if you want to visit an island, book an all inclusive resort and explore at your own pace. Having "MAMA" ship control your much needed time off for a working person not relaxing at all. Supposedly a 21 day cruise…….. My wife and I have just returned from our cruise together with another couple that we invited to come along. When we planned this trip it was supposed to be a gift from me to my wife and from her to me as a 55th anniversary present and our mutual 75th Birthday present. It turned out to be anything but pleasant. Princess has lost all consideration from us for any future trips as their status in our eyes have dropped by at least 50%. This is not only our viewpoint but also from many people we have talked to during the cruise. After our last email to Princess they did some good as they cleaned up a few things that were wrong including a new shower head and the leak under our bathroom console which they did not admit to, but my wife’s make up bags were completely soaked and her make up was damaged. We found most of the staff throughout the ship not pleasant as they normally are with the exception of our room stewart and our waiters. To get someone at the main desk we either had to line up for an hour since they never answered any calls, and if they did they were very unfriendly and hard to understand their English and one that identified herself as May was very rude. When we booked this cruise it was advertised as a 21 day cruise. Well it wasn’t. It was a 10 day and 11 day cruise which meant that after the first cruise was completed we all had to leave the ship in Singapore and re-board even though we didn’t want to go through the hastle in Singapore for Immigration and Customs. As well as that all our records were deleted from their files on the ship after the first segment which they called it and we had to start again such as in the Doctors office. The second segment they wanted to charge another $ 200.00 fee for checking us out which we had already paid on the first segment. The casino cashed out and cleared our points from our cards etc. etc. etc. The menu’s in the restaurants were the same as the first leg of the cruise and just repeated. Even some of the entertainment was repeated. So Princess’s sales pitch was not factually and they deceived people including us. The noise from over our cabins was never fixed. We were told that the sound insulation was very poor and there was nothing they could do to fix it. I told them that does a lot for my sleeping of which I got very little over the entire trip. Adding to this was the fact that I had a bad cough which once awake did not help me go back to sleep. They gave us a $ 250.00 on board credit but this was no appeasement whatsoever for the lack of sleep we had on this long 21 day journey. The second segment we were upgraded from Ruby status to Platinum status because of our mileage. No one explained to us what was included. We finally found out and tried to use our free internet which apparently was included but it was so slow as Princess already had over a hundred contractors on board for refurbishing this ship which was old in many respects. So your paying customers ended up having to suffer because of contractors Princess hired to refurbish this old ship. Some passengers could not even get their flight boarding passes because the system was over loaded. Our last excursion was also changed since apparently to many ships were in the harbour at Ko Samui Thailand and we ended up in Cambodia which was the dirtiest place that we ever seen. One of our friends told the Captain that if he ever stopped there again he might have a mutiny on his hands. Not much fun at all. You would have thought that a large liner like Princess could have foreseen such a change in the first place much earlier and stuck to its planned voyage. Our friends were extremely sick on board and saw the Doctor as well. They were stuck in the immigration line at San Francisco airport in Custom and Immigration line for 3 hours only to miss their flight home. United rebooked them but they had to pay an extra $1,000.00 for this re-booking. Whether this was charged to them still has to be verified. They did not offer them accommodation but as sick as both of them were they had to stay at the airport. I was under the impression the since Princess booked their flight this was Princess’s liability. And all of us carried the Princess Platinum insurance policy. Great help that turned out to be. We also want to send our medical bills in for repayment. Both our rooms had substantial medical costs. We were given a form of the policy and no other form to fill out or policy number etc.for Canadians. As far as we are concerned we will not book any future trips with Princess and we will let everyone we know about our experience in this cruise. We loved Princess but that love affair is over. I am a member of Trip Advisor and will post this letter on their website. We have been contacted by Princess customer service with a lot of apologies for what we went through. They were gracious enough to offer us $ 250.00 Credit towards our next cruise. What does that do n for the lack of sleep and besides I was very emphatic that we would no longer book anything on Princess. I think there are plenty of cruise lines out there that would appreciate our business in future. The Doctor aboard this ship also told one of the passengers that this is not a hospital ship and that they were to old to cruise. One year older than I am. WOW. To all Princess customers be aware, cautious. It is obvious Princess is not trying to solve any of these issues with sincerity. Read Less

I am not an experienced cruise customer. Only 1 other cruise and that was over 2 years ago. However, several friends wanted to take the cruise, so we booked a mini-suite. Embarkation went very smoothly. Disembarkation was very slow with no explanation given for the 1 hour delay. The cabin was ok. Sufficient room and storage. A little worn. Bathroom tiles worn and stained. Grout was failing. Cabin steward was very good. Food was slightly disappointing.. Entrees ranged from marginal to adequate to excellent. Specialty dining was very good. Many parts of the ship were well worn. A prime example was the widespread rust throughout the exterior. Entertainment was adequate. A good mix of different styles. Activities were somewhat limited unless you happened to be a trivia buff. On the other hand, virtually all the staff were exceptional. Polite, efficient, courteous, and helpful. Not so much with the ship's officers, however. They were aloof and at times dismissive. But I will never cruise with Princess again. The fare for the 2 of us was just under $10,000 and it included a $300 credit for our cabin which was clearly noted on the booking documentation that was sent to us. However, the credit did not appear on our account. Princess refused to honor the credit telling us that we had the responsibility to resolve the issue with our travel agent. Are you kidding me? We spend almost $10,000 and they can't fix the problem between them and the agent? The customer service desk did send a message to the main office, which failed to help, but then never contacted us with a response. Gotta be a better cruise company out there. Read Less

First ever cruise with Princess, but will also be our last. We have cruised with three other cruise lines previously, never have we been so disappointed. We were thinking perhaps our unpleasant experiences were a ‘one-off’ with Princess but having spoken with several Elite level passengers who had decided ‘enough was enough’ and that they would no longer cruise with Princess due to ongoing cuts and increasing poor service - we quickly realised a pattern had well and truly formed for the cruise line with no signs of improvement on the horizon. High time this ship went into dry dock. All chairs in the common areas had little to no padding left in them, VERY uncomfortable. Condescending entertainment crew. Sodas in every venue were flat. Entertainment and food were mediocre at best. A real shame, we were hoping to cruise again with Princess but this trip has certainly put us off. Met a couple of lovely elite level couples, if it wasn’t for them, the last 15 days would’ve been a complete write off. I might add, several other elite level passengers we spoke with all stated they would never cruise with Princess again. Read Less

We have only been on a total of 6 cruises (Princess twice, Royal Caribbean twice and Celebrity twice) so we are by no means expert cruisers, but the issues we had with our most recent Princess Cruise will prevent us from EVER cruising with Princess ever again...never! There were so many bad customer service issues I really don't know where to start, so best I start right from the beginning: 1. We are Canadian and our booking was from a Canadian email advertisement priced in Canadian dollar. We book directly with Princess and received a random agent. We received our booking confirmation with all the details including our flights. A few days later (wanting to upgrade and book our seats) I contacted the flight carrier only to find out that our flight confirmation number does not match. We contact Theresa and leave her a message once in the morning and again in the afternoon to no avail so the next day I call her again, this time instead of leaving her another message I press zero to get another agent...guess what...they won't speak with me. As soon as you provide the requested booking #, they said I have to speak with Theresa and puts me back to her voice mail...wow turns out Theresa was sick for 3 days and during that time I am stuck with no assistance! Not sure why the flight reference numbers didn't match but eventually I get the proper number and I book my seats but not after wasting about 2 hours with the various agents, Theresa, Delta, and WestJet…and it was Delta that got me the proper reference number for my WestJet flight from Toronto to Fort Lauderdale…what a waste of time! 2. A week later I receive another email from Princess advertising the Beverage Package but when I went to purchase it, I find out that it was quoted in US dollar...why? They know I am in Canada...everything else up until then was quoted in Canadian dollar...again frustrating but I buy the beverage package for us. 3. I learned that if I pre purchase the Internet Package online prior to the cruise I received a 20 min bonus per 100 min package. So I purchased a 200 min package and get a total of 240 min (40 min bonus). However, when I got on the ship, my Princess App did not show I had a package. After wasting time with the Purser’s office I learn that they provided a credit on my account and I have to waste time to re-buy the closest package I pre-purchased online and then waste more time tracking down the "Data Communication Manager" to ask him to add my bonus minutes...really! What a waste of time yet again! 4. Turns out that the internet was more frustrating than it was worth so by day 3 and 6 minutes of use trying to log into my office emails, I complain. The response from the purser's office..."ok then cancel" to which I said ok please cancel...he says, I have to contact the Data Communications Manager...lol So while I am upset an Officer named Oggie appears. After hearing my story he says he'll take care of the cancellation and committed to calling me to confirm the cancellation. It was late at the time and knowing we were staying up i asked if he could not call us before 10 am the next morning to which he agreed...guess what, at 9 am the phone rings, its the Data Communications Manager and he says, "I understand you want to speak to me". The guy didn’t have any idea and so I have to explain my situation all over again…I was upset but i stayed calm and asked if I could cancel, he says ok but get this…instead of crediting me back the full amount paid, he charged me for the 6 minutes I used...lol OMG really!!! 5. While on the ship, we had to go to the purser's office another 5 times to correct billing errors. We both had a Beverage Package, how is to possible that they charged us for water twice, a beer once and a glass of wine once...5 times on 4 errors because we had to go twice for the beer charge. Once at Princess Cay Island, twice at the buffet restaurant and once even at our dining room. I don't get it. And each time, we had to wait in line and had to speak with a rep who took forever to figure it out...good lord we had a beverage package, how difficult is it to rectify...and why the mistakes to begin with! On one of these occasion, after waiting the rep looks up from her computer and says "WHAT"...not how can i help you etc...she actually said WHAT. My wife almost lost it! 6. Our last evening, I call the front desk to request a wake up call for 6 am…done. Turns out that we were out a little later than expected so I called the front desk to change my wake call time from 6 am to 6:40 am…figured we’ll get a little more sleep but for fear they will make a mistake I decide to cancel my 6 am wake up call 1st…so I did, asked for it to be canceled. After confirming it was canceled I requested a new wake up call for 6:40 am…sounds simple, nope. The phone rings at 6 am, begrudgingly I get up by myself and run upstairs for a quick bite…I come back and now my wife is upset as they called her at 6:40…they left both wake up calls…I just don’t get it. We don’t expect to be waited on hand and foot but this was the worst service we have every experienced. Thank the good lord we went with another couple and met some great people on board. Our room steward was great and most of the staff were fantastic but the food was not nearly as good any of our other cruises. We will never cruise with Princess ever again...I hope this was helpful :) Read Less

Where to start? First I made arrangements due to dietary requirements as I have gluten intolerance. Get on board and there was no gluten free food except gluten free pizza that was sometimes not bad. Sometimes it was awful. The dining room lectured me about ordering my food the day before even though I had just boarded the ship and gave me very limited options and advised if I did not order the day before they would not have food. The buffet had nothing but really bad gluten free desserts. Princess Cay, besides being a waste of time, had no gluten free food except for fruit. The staff on the Royal Princess was extremely rude. I was scolded every time I asked for gluten free food event though I let them know at the time of booking. i complained about cigarette smoke on our balcony and was lectured by the ships guest relations that I should have known the ships amenities and it was my fault for selecting a room above a smoking area. Over with a few exceptions the ship staff was rude and condescending. It was a long week of putting up with being scolded. Went to the buffet a few minutes before they opened. Food was out and other were helping themselves. My wife had her food yanked out of her had and was yelled at for taking it. Asked for a supervisor who was extremely rude. He then proceeded to grab and squeeze both of us by the shoulder when we asked for his supervisor. There is never an excuse to touch your customers. Now on to the spa. We were celebrating out 15 year anniversary and I decided to schedule a massage for my wife. never did I expect that the massage would leave her in tears and pain. Fist they follow you around the spa and do not give you any privacy. Than she had a awkward massage with no music playing and and the massage was mediocre at best. She let the therapist know she had plantar fasciitis. at the end of the massage she bent her food leading to her yelling in pain and then she informed her the massage was over. She then tried to sell he all sorts of over priced items. When she was leaving the massage in pain and tears my wife let them know she was dissatisfied. There immediate response was that they would let the therapist know she didn't like it. At this point my wife was in tears. A manager came along and actually provided the one of the only resemblance of good customer service that entire week. She listened to my wife apologized and offered her a discount. There are so many instances of poor customer customer service during our week on the Royal Princess. Overall with the exception of our cabin steward, one waitress at the pizza restaurant, the party band and the piano guy, the staff on this ship were terrible. I almost forgot to mention the fitness area fitness area. First it is too small. They charged extra for fitness classes and then tried to sell you overpriced insoles. here is not enough equipment. For example, 5 yoga mats for a ship f over 3000 people. You would think after ripping people off they could afford more yoga mats. I think I own more yoga mats. If you are looking for good food, to be treated with respect and to not be bored out of you mind, go on any other cruise line. We had an awful experience on Princess. I complained to there corporate guest relations who offered me a $150 on board credit and refused to do anything else for us. When I asked for the customer relations manager she told me that i could not talk to anyone above her and any attempt would come right back to her. My advice based on this experience is to read reviews. After our cruise I realized that our experience was a lot more common. I wish i had spent more time researching Princess. I feel ripped off and I enjoyed time with my wife but had a miserable time on the Royal Princess. Read Less

My husband and I expected to have a lovely experience. The ship is clean, the staff is friendly and helpful and our cabin was comfortable. The dinner menus looked interesting but the food was bland, overcooked and tough. We truly hoped it was only a one night problem but we were disappointed in the dinners on the first 5 nights of our 7 night cruise. On night 6 we decided to have dinner at Alfredo"s cafe and it was the only flavorful and well prepared dinner on the ship. The staff offered us a chance to dine in Sabitini's specialty restaurant. It was probably the WORST meal we had on this vacation. The entertainment was great. We loved the production shows. There was lovely live music in many venues around the ship. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. There were always lounges and seats available wherever we chose to go. We loved the professional portraits taken by the great photographers. Sorry to say that we definitely will not take a Princess cruise again. Read Less

The Bad : Ship shakes under sail and unbelievably worse in port, especially annoying when you are dining. Common areas good condition but we had hit and miss cabins this fall and winter, some ok and some awful condition. Ship staff said they can’t update the rooms without a dry dock and the company keeps putting that off. Personally had and witnessed some negative interactions with the Guest Services Staff. As typical of the brand no built in activies for active adults and children. Just off a Christmas cruise on another ship of the brand, many families cruising and the young people were bored out of their minds. Royal Caribbean, Carnival or Norwegian would have been a better choice for a family vacation. The Good: The company has invested in Internet upgrades for this ship. Room and Dining staff generally excellent as is usual throughout the brand. Food quality and selection was on par with the brand and far superior to Royal Caribbean. Read Less

Onboard Electrical Fire took out all Inrernet (WiFi) and all Onboard Cabins/Stateroom and Deluxe Suites for some 9-10 Day Upon Returning to Melbourne on the 21st November this was only some 15% Fixed if that, and paying Some $11,201.00 for this Cruise, and only getting a Disgraceful $150 Goodwill Credit is again a total Disgrace from Princess Cruises Headoffice in Sydney, NSW and California, USA - Should of been given back at least a Minimum of 30% of the Total Amount of Full Fair Paid, and getting told that it was only just a Minor Electrical Fire Fault, to Finding Out in Auckland, New Zealand that it had Destroyed some 6+ Major Hardware Devices that needed to be Fully Replaced and Upon leaving Auckland, New Zealand we was told things should be back up and working within a say or so (This Never Happened at all, Upon Arriving Back into Melbourne) this was still Not Fixed, so again Imagine leaving Auckland, New Zealand late Saturday Afternoon 17th November 2018 and being at Sea till Wednesday Morning 21st November with No TV's (A Total Disgrace, given that The Golden Princess Cruise Ship) went into Dry Dock in Singapore in March/April 2018 for Refurbishing and this Occurring.. Buffet Dining Onboard, was the Same as all Previous other Cruises Onboard the 'Golden Princess', the Smell on Deck 7 Mid-Ship as others have said and even on last cruise in Dec 2017' it still has the same Sewage Smell there and it's not from the Smoking, it is a Sewage Odor/Smell. The Live Entertainment Onboard needs to Cater for all Age Groups, and Not just Retirees. Did goto most of the Specialty Dining, and Food there was okay, but Menu's still need Improved, Lacks Variety. Swimming Pools, were always Clean and Tidy, when they were Opened without the Netting Covering them. Bar Staff (I am Not a Alcohol drinker at all) - but Bar Staff, were Friendly although at times there was up to a 10min wait to be Served just to get a Can of Coke' as there Soda Drinks Package is that Watered Down that it's Worse than Mc Donald's or Hungry Jack's Coke, so Real Soft Drink being Coke, or Sprite from a Can is what you can call real Soda' but Prices have gone up as last Year in December 2017' a Can of Coke was only $2.55' and now there $3.75 a Can. Ports, and Shore Excursions where Okay, Train Excursions are Great 'Arthur's Pass' was Fantastic to See, Coach tours are also great too. The Only Port of Call, that I thought was a Disgrace, would have to Be 'Auckland' NZ. Did not Travel with Children on this Cruise Holiday to New Zealand' in November 2018. Would Not Recommend this Cruise Ship 'Golden Princess' and Would Not go back to New Zealand again, But that being said "Milford Sound" at 6:30AM in the Morning is a Fantastic Once in a Lietime Viewing Experience going up the Passage'. We expected way better than this, having previously sailed on Voyager of the seas. Good staff and good food but the accolades stop here. Balcony stateroom was old and tired. Cupboard hinges broken. Balcony floor was so bad and uneven you couldn't walk on it without cutting your feet. Air conditioner was so noisy it made sleeping difficult. Could not be turned off and controller was hanging off the wall held only by a couple of wires. Toilet kept blocking up. It overflowed all over the bathroom twice. Plumber was called 6 times in 13 days and we were not the only cabin on this cruise with this issue. This made for a very uncomfortable cruise having to worry about when it would overflow next. Ship smelled of sewerage in certain areas. Ship painting was being carried out during the cruise meaning the stink of paint permeated the ship. The main cafe on deck 14 where almost everyone goes for breakfast and lunch smelled of mould. This is a health issue as is overflowing toilets. We will not sail on Princess cruise lines again. We repent Holland America, never again will we sale with the Dirty Princess. Our stareroom steward was great. The stateroom was worn out, the window curtans didnt fit properly. THe food in the Horizon buffet was almost un eatable. THe other resteraunts on board were better but disappointing in many ways. Check your room key card when you use it. Staff gave the wrong key card back to customers and cause lots of problems. Entertainment leader Jen was awesome but most of the entertainment was just so so. When we dis embarked the ship in Vancouver we had to Walk off because our connection was at 11am and we had no help from staff at ALL. My wife and I are in our 70s and I am disabled and we pleaded for help getting off boat but we were ignored by the staff. My wife and I had to drag and push our 5 bags down 4 decks and gang planks to a taxi. Worst expierence we have ever had. Read Less

I chose this cruise for the itinerary but once onboard, completely disappointed with food and the state of the ship. I've been on many cruises prior to this but this was the worst by far. My expectations on the food were gravely disappointing. The quality has certainly gone down the tubes and temperature of the food was also just slightly warm. The long lines were horrific around the restaurants and trying to find a table in the buffet zones was impossible. The state of the room was also disappointing....tired old furniture, uncomfortable mattresses. Unhygienic bedding, pillows and duvets are not cleaned also very used and pilled On a 10 day cruise I would have expected my sheets to be changed once, not until I asked. Gross! The sofa in the stateroom was something you might find curb side. Very soiled and cushions were sagging. The ventilation in certain parts were emitting stench from, the sewage on board. Walk down certain corridors and it's overwhelming. I couldn't sit long outside on the Sanctuary side for the wafting of sewage coming from the exhaust of ship. Yikes! Is at with a towel over. Y nostrils not to inhale the fumes. Gross! Will not be returning to Princess! Non voyage! Read Less

This ship is a disappointment start to finish. People have been rating the ship high because they like the ports. However, this is a site about rating the ship, not the ports. While Alaska is wonderful, the ship, not so much…. Of course, I had read the reviews of the absolutely deplorable conditions of the ship, yet our Alaskan cruise was paid for and we had no choice but to hope the countless maintenance issues I had read about were addressed by the time of our voyage. Take it from someone who just sailed, the issues have not been addressed and this ship is in dire need of retirement. First the accommodations (balcony room, 214, Lido Deck) – the good – the bed was comfortable, and linens were clean. The bad – the carpets were old, tattered and stained, the bathroom is dated and grimey, rust on the outdoor railing on balcony, water issues, toilet issues, and worst of all – the terrible, thick smell of must and mold permeating the entire room and hallway. First the water issues. In attempts to further repair the ship, maintenance would shut off the cold water during the day and try and get it back on for the evening shower routine. This meant that we had cold water on average 1-2 hours a day, at all other times the water was scolding hot. There were also buckets here and there in the hall during the day set out to catch drips. Additionally, the toilets would have periods of time during the day in which they were out of service, hopefully the cabin steward notifies you or you will be in for a surprise – unfortunately this happened to 2 other rooms I was traveling with and they were not able to flush. I cannot emphasize enough the mold issue. I know not every hall was plagued with this issue, but beware, some are, certainly Lido Deck, and it is deplorable. My wife and I are still fighting the respiratory issues from living in these conditions for a week. The conditions on the Lido deck are best described as a health hazard. Public areas – I will start my description of the public area with a quote from bar tender working the pool bar. When I asked him if this ship had the gastropub style restaurant I saw advertised on the treadmill TV he responded “heh, this ship about to be retired next year, that’s for new ships only” – this pretty much explains it all. This ship is on its way out and is treated as such. There are maintenance personnel constantly in view trying to do what they can to band-aid various wear and tear issues around the ship. Picture stepping around guys in jumpsuits and ladders on formal night as you are walking to the dining room. The windows in the pool area are so dirty that it was difficult to see out to the Alaskan scenery. The bathrooms on the pool deck were flooded and backed up as were many others on the ship. The astro-turf top decks need to be replaced as they are grimey and filthy – here’s a tip, bring flip-flops. The deck furniture is rusty and missing straps in some cases. Many of the elevators are down which can make it difficult or impossible to navigate the ship quickly. To put it nicely, the ship is tired. We spent most afternoons when on the ship in “The Sanctuary” for an additional daily fee - $40 per person per day if I recall correctly. This is the only place on the ship I was able to receive service and the chez lounges were comfortable and in good condition. Though the ship nickel and dimes you for everything, everywhere, “The Sanctuary” is well worth the fee. Food – shockingly, the food may be worse than the condition of the ship. We ate in the main dining room one night and the food was unacceptable. The pasta was bland, zero flavor and overcooked. Seafood soup was fishy and unappetizing. The diver scallop entrée featured a few scallops the diameter of a quarter, overcooked, with a side of microwaved broccoli – it all tasted the same. I could go on and on but I will be brief. The specialty restaurants are just as bad. The sea bass the first night at the steak house kept me up all night with the worst stomach cramps and food poisoning I have had in many years, maybe my life – and I thought it was just dry and flavorless, that was the tip of the iceberg. Steak was grizly and overcooked. The worst dish on the ship is the chicken dish at the Italian restaurant “Sabatini”, very clearly microwaved, processed chicken, hate to sound like a broken record here – zero flavor. Ate here again the second night and the pork dish was just as bad. To think, I spent 35 minutes on hold on the day of embarkation to try and make specialty dining restaurants, and the cost on top, what a waste. The only redeeming quality is that good wines are well priced. We had 2015 Caymus regularly and it is the same price or cheaper than my local liquor store – bravo Princess. Cheaper wines are in place on the menu to gouge unsuspecting cruise goers. Another note on drinks, if you want a cocktail anywhere on the ship that requires two different types of alcohol you will be charged twice, or in my case they will swipe your card twice for the “unlimited drink package” which is in fact “limited” to 15 drinks per day. One shot of whiskey with an ounce of Campari counts for 2 drinks – for example. In summation I would strongly recommend, in fact insist, that you avoid this cruise ship. The fact that Princess conducts business in this fashion is concerning and as such, this is my first and last certainly last cruise with Princess. I have done this Alaskan cruise route several years ago with Celebrity and would highly recommend it as an alternative. I believe Cunard is picking up the itinerary as well which I can speak highly of from experience. This cruise was booked by an elderly family member as a gift this year, she says it was the top recommendation from her travel agent. All in all it’s a scam, all about kickbacks to corrupt travel agents taking advantage of senior citizens – avoid at all costs. If you haven’t booked, don’t. I am writing this review after taking a batch of clothes from the trip to the drycleaner and smelling the must on these garments several weeks later, still sticking to the clothes like it is sticking to my lungs. If only I could send Princess my dry-cleaning bill. In the words of one of the members of my party – this ship needs to be taken out to sea and ceremoniously sunk, and this time, the chef will go down with the ship. Read Less

We love the Golden Princess and have sailed on her five times but sadly on our lastest cruise we were a little disappointed. We had nine days without TV, internet and communication due to a fire. We were left frightened and staff panicked and several did not go to their designated muster station even after several calls to do so from the Captain. We were in a balcony cabin and the smell was coming into the cabin so we opened the balcony door for air, but the smell was coming into our cabin. We were told to stay in our cabin, but some people were told to wear something warm, take your medication with you and prepare to evacuate, so we were told different things. Our wonderful cabin steward Kurt told us to stay calm and he would keep us informed. After what seemed like several hours the Captain informed us the heavy thick black smoke was under control (fire was not mentioned, but we know there was fire). We were all offered a complementary glass of wine with dinner the next night (we dont drink) and later offered $150 on board credit for no tv and internet for nearly the whole cruise. There were many leakes around the ship. There was a toilet flooding on Horizon level. The ship needs a good spruse up and the cabins are in need of some spring cleaning as they are not cleaned properly for new arrivals. We found a used toothbrush in a draw from previous occuapants and blood on a bed cushion. We went Club Class as this was the only available at time of booking and found the staff we absolutely fantastic and they made our vacation bearable. We were so looking forward to this cruise but were sadly let down. We hope they can repair the ship and fix all the problems as we would still love to sail on her in the future. Read Less

Where do I begin, off the ship was awesome, but coming back on was a huge let down. Bars were way understaffed and I fell bad for those who paid for drink packages. I would have to wait about 20 mins just to get a coke. When you would sit down to dine the wait for a drink would be worse, almost finished when the drink would arrive. Cabin looked old and outdated. The view was great though. Dining- Be prepared to pay extra for dining if you want a good meal. The specialty restaurants were great. Regular dining had no flavor but service was good. Buffets were the same all the time, they just changed the sauce that it was prepared with (LOL0 Hope you like pork! Entertainment- Shows were ok, have seen better on other cruise lines. Magician was horrible my son could do better than him. Comedy was great first nite, his second was basically a repeat of his first (Which was made to sound like it was going to be a special treat). Trying to get a drink was a joke because not enough staff. Crew shows were ok, they did their best. It might sound like all I can do is complain but this cruise ship was such a let down, every-time you got around the other guest after 2 days all you would hear is complaining of how horrible the service was, I am sure I am not the only one giving this cruise a bad review. I work hard for my money and expect great service when we go on vacation. Chose another cruise line and have a great time. If you do chose this line be prepared to spend extra for great food and bring your own alcohol !!!!! Read Less

Worst cruise my husband and I ever took. FACT: 1) Spent more time at sea than the itinerary stated. 2) Took over 3 hours to get into our room due to the key card and room door being inoperable. 3) The room was really small, not what was shown in the picture on the website and set up with two twin beds instead of a queen. 3a) The bathroom was small. I’m 5’7 and 185. As I stood in the shower, one arm touched a wall and the other arm touched the shower curtain. 4) The food was horrible. Some items were under cooked, while others were over cooked, very little options on a day to day basis and not pleasing to taste. 5) Trouble with the cruise ship. We happened to be on the side where the repairs were done. 6) Closed laundromat. 7) The majority of the staff was rude and unpleasant. 8) The boat had a urine smell in the pipes that wafted into the air. 9) No diverse onboard activities. 10) Rude to handicapped cruisers. Our river rafting was a JOKE we got stuck on several rocks due to very little water in the river they should have cancelled the excursion and gave us a refund but no. They also cancelled the White Train excursion but it was cancelled too, due to a rockslide that damaged part of the train track which we understand, but we had to scramble to find another excursion the night before. Kids program was not fun for my 12 year old who is almost 13. Everything was geared toward little kids in his group so he never went to class because they didn’t make it fun and made my preteen feel like a little kid. He wanted to hang out in the 13+ but they would not let him even though he is 13 next month. It was at least 30 min to get seated for dinner and food took forever. When the food came it was old and gross. Selection was not great either. The buffet had old food And again not a big selection. This was my first cruise with Princess and as a result of my experience, it will definitely be my last. Prior to booking, I had this impression that Princess was an elite cruising brand. I expected more of them than I would a Carnival, Norwegian or Royal Caribbean cruise line. I could not have been more wrong. Let's start with the PROS since its a short list. PROS: Embarkation - Princess is very organized. I was on the ship in less than 20 minutes from my arrival to the pier. I have NEVER gotten on a ship that fast before. There was no haggling to buy onboard packages and no pressure to take pictures. It was the most quickest, easiest embarkation I have ever experienced. Shore Excursions - I really liked that while the Excursions desk was not always manned that they had iPads at the desk so I could book excursions during their non-operating hours. I struggled whether to add this to the CONS list really, because the Excursions desk was closed before and during our sail away period, but I do like that I had this as an option. I like to book my excursions as soon as I get on the ship. I later learned I could have booked them in my room via the TV. Entertainment - I really enjoyed some of the musical talent on this ship. I learned of some new artistic gems like George Thursting that I now follow through social media. Love them. Folks, that's where my PROS list ends. Let's dive into everything that made this cruise horrible and left me vowing to NEVER cruise with Princess again. CONS: Bed Bug (in Room B249) - I usually don't sleep much, if at all, the night before a cruise, because I am busy packing and getting my house (and life) prepared for my extensive departure, so I usually make up for that sleep the first night on the ship. This cruise was no exception. I grabbed a bite to eat and booked my excursions once I got on board and I headed straight to my room to snooze. After we set sailed, I got up to grab something out of my bag and when I returned to the bed I noticed what looked like a bed bug crawling over the duvet cover. I screamed! I ran outside where the cabin steward was. He came in looking embarrassed, but not surprised, and scooped the bug into a glass jar. I was mortified. All I could think was how grateful I was that I had not unpacked yet. I did NOT want to take any of these critters home with me. I hear bed bugs are horrible to get rid of. I went straight to the reception desk to report it. Its the first night, so there's a long line. I patiently wait. When I get to the line, the service desk rep (Ignacio and Aracelli) said there was not much they could do besides send someone to investigate and clean the room since the ship was sold out. They did not offer me some place to sit or rest at during this 2-hour investigation. They did not offer me a complimentary beverage or meal. They did not apologize for the inconvenience. They did nothing, but "investigate." I stood on the side of the reception desk for 2 hours exhausted. I finally got back in line to see if there was an update, since NO ONE spoke to me during those 2 hours and only after I got back in line did someone call to check on the "investigation" and that's when I was told they were done and they did not find anything else (meaning another bug). For all I know, the investigation could have been completed an hour earlier. I return to my room alone. Visibly shaken, they did not offer to escort me to my room to reassure me and show me their findings. No one was there when I arrived. It was hours later when the cabin steward supervisor and my cabin steward returned to tell me the supervisor found nothing. I asked if I would be able to get checked by medical - something the front desk rep said I would be able to get as a courtesy to check for bed bug bites - and the supervisor told me NO. He said the ship doctor is not like a doctor on land, they're expensive, so I would have to pay for this myself. Um... OK! I was done after this. Done. He treated me like I was an inconvenience. Very hostile. I never unpacked my bag. I kept it closed the entire cruise and I checked my room for bed bugs each and every day. I tried not to let this ruin my trip cuz then I would definitely be on the losing end. I tried to make the best of it. Ship - Its old. Real old. Very dated. There's rust, mildew and mold everywhere. While I stood in line at the guest desk, I noticed there were multiple leaks from the ceiling. Also, the layout makes no sense. They give each deck a name. For example: Deck # 11 is named Baja and Deck # 15 is named Lido. Instead of referring to the deck number, you had to learn the deck names, because that is how they were referenced. It was so cooky. Then there were only so many elevator banks. I believe there were three or four for the entire ship and one or two of those only went to a few floors. There were no machines for people to add money to their room card/key. Everything went through the very incompetent guest desk. And they had to escalate everything. No one at the desk could make a decision at their level. No one was empowered to just do common sense things for guests. While I waited for my bed bug investigation, I heard a man with Platinum Level Status get upset over his beverage package and how someone screwed it up. I stood there thinking: If this guy is a loyal Princess cruiser and they treat him like that, how should I expect them to treat me? Not good, folks. Not good. Dining - I actually like the seating in the buffet dining areas. I liked that there were pub seating that looked directly out the window, so if you're a party of one you're only taking one seat and not an entire table. That's where my likes end. The food options were very limited and buffet small. It was about one-third of the size of the buffet area on the average Norwegian ship. Horrible! I made due, but I was just shocked. In Conclusion: The pros definitely did not outweigh the cons. I cannot justify the cost of the average Princess cruise for me to try the brand again. Outside of wanting to experience the Princess brand, I really chose this sailing because it was going to the ABC islands and it was full of smart at sea days. Heed my warnings. If nothing else, stay away from this ship unless you've cruised it before and know what to expect. Read Less
