First time on a cruise. Expectations were high. Those glitzy commercials... First, the positives. Overall it was a relaxing and friendly environment. I cannot say enough positive about the wait staff in the dining areas and every other staff member we crossed was cheery and enthusiastic and very willing to help and engage. The state room was filthy on arrival. Feces smeared on the sides of the toilet bowl, dirty hand prints in the shower, and clearly not vacuumed. Patio doors to deck were filthy too. Sofa in room was grimy looking. You board a ship with trepidation about getting norovirus and this is what greets you. We were given a complimentary meal in the steak house after complaining. Never did see the complimentary robes we signed up for before the cruise. The internet service you purchase is locked to one device. This is not mentioned prior to purchase. The ship's television service went out three times for hours, once for a solid 24 hours. - so much for relaxing in your room at the end of an evening with a show before bedtime. I was glad to not be traveling with children. The buffet featured food that was bland the majority of the time. Maybe I can appreciate this more when I am a geriatric. Food had from the other dining areas was much better. AMATEUR live entertainment. For example there was a Mariachi band with some members pretending to play instruments along to canned recordings. It made relaxing in common areas during live performances difficult. It really was that cringe worthy. I am not musical at all and I was picking up on it. For my husband who is a classically trained musician it was excruciating. The Medallion GPS tracker/room key/electronic payment device was convenient. I felt like part of a wildlife tag and release program but it did aid the room stewards in knowing we were not in the room and we found it cleaned at all differing hours of the day which was convenient. For those signing up for shore excursion packages please do NOT assume that if lunch is provided as part of the excursion that a beverage of ANY sort is included as well (billed separately for water - surprise!). Mazatlan is a hard pass. Anyone who has visited a Mexican city bordering the US has already seen what they have to offer of squalor, but now add in many Mexican federal policemen with machine guns for that extra war zone feel. We are from the Bay Area and booked a 6 am fight out of San Jose to LAX. We were up at 330 am so we were tired and excited. We got an uber to a breakfast place near the airport called Bread and Butter. It was really good and very inexpensive. We took an uber around 11 am to the pier from the restaurant. It was so surreal to see the enormous Royal, which would be home for the next 7 days. Since our daughter was celebrating her Sweet 16 birthday we decided to book a suite a 102.. and make it a surprise on what room we booked. When we dropped off our bags we we ushered into a medallion line. i kept asking if this was line for suites everyone told me yes. We and everyone else were given number 5. We were checked in and asked the lady about suites and she had no idea so she called her supervisor and asked if there was a special area or a person to walk guest on. The supervisor said, " Because you're medallion pre checked you just sit with everyone else. No special area or walk on host." OK/// Even Carnival has an area for suites but we were tired and glad to find a chair to rest. The kind lady next to me overheard that we were in a suite and told me to go up to the lady calling out numbers. We did. she apologized and said to go right on. The ship was beautiful and so impressive. Our cabin on Aloha deck A102, was also amazing. A really gorgeous bathroom with a deep soaking tub and separate shower. We met briefly with our steward, Edsell. We were so hungry and tried to find the dining room for lunch, that was open but no one seemed to direct us right. We stumbled onto Alfredo's and what a delicious place this was. We had the vegetarian pizza and Hawaiian pizza. we also tried the tiramisu for dessert and it was clearly the best dessert we had. all week. We went to the room and unpacked and rested. After mustered we made reservations at the crown grill for dinner. It was complimentary with suite privileges. I had the prawn appetizer and filet mignon with baked potato. My husband had the same and my daughter had the steak tartare and lamb. She loved it. Not sure if I would eat raw beef. We were full for dessert. The wait staff was excellent. Our room steward tried his best but when we asked him to exchange the mini bottles for all sky vodka, instead of the various other liquors. he told us to call room service, which I did. Room service directed to tell our room steward for this request.. Finally we had a room service drop off our pre purchased liquor bottle and we told him and he took care of it. We also asked our steward if we could have menus to order dinner since we wanted to just relax in our cabin. He again told us to call room service. My husband just went down to the restaurant and took pictures and we did receive it. Room service was fantastic. Always early and a white table clothe was et out. We did the ultimate balcony dinner and it was amazing. I recommend this highly. We had so much food and it was fresh. The lobster was way better then what is offered in the regular MDR. The nice thing about it was my daughter was able to order food from the regular menu and eat with us. We tried to see if she could get our UBD menu but they can not separate so it would have been another 100 dollars for an additional one person. My daughter and husband did the scuba diving tour in Cabo. It was so cold and the visibility was not good but that is Mother nature. In Mazatlan we went to the beach in the golden zone. We did jet skis.. The rental is 60 dollars for half an hour. My husband and daughter did fresh oysters from a beach lady. She had a table and just through oysters out on a table and shucked them..They were very fresh and no-one got sick. In Puerto Vallarta we did the Eco tour which was amazing. We stopped in a tiny village called san jose and ate fresh tortillas. Then to the jungle to go on a hike. We also ate homemade tortilla with beans and guacamole from a traditional farm. Delicious and I could have ate a dozen.. Our tour guide discussed the birds and plant life in this region... Very interesting. We ended on a beach ( non swimmable) for a bbq lunch. Really enjoyed this and the people were nice and friendly. Just make sure to have hiking boots and bug spray. We used Sabatini' for breakfast which was amazing. Our highlight was the Pub lunch on our last day. The food was ok, Club class had amazing pastas. It did take awhile to get served. We bought the thermal pass Enclave but were so disappointed that we got a refund. It was so crowded it was hard to find a space to sit. The Spa had foam in it , which I know want harm you but it is not pleasant to bath in.. People were not pre-showering which grossed me out. And a lady had a band aid on her foot. We were refunded, but were pushed to use our money instead on a massage or other service. We said no and then she said the salt rub needed to be returned or she would need to charge me for that. Thankfully we did not open them and gave it back. Only one refund was done, so a trip to guest services to rectify. I did not like also, there was no sea view just a dark tomb with people walking back and forth.. It was not for us. Holland America has the best thermal suites in my opinion. We had a great time and I love cruising but we prefer small ships. Please ask any questions. Read Less

We wanted to get away for a short cruise so went on this 7 day to Mexico on a Medallion class ship. The medallion level isn't what is cracked up to be. Where as your embarkation is supposed to be faster, I saw no difference from my Elite Priority Boarding. They need to get staff up to speed on this new Medallion boarding, example: We preregistered on line by scanning passports and photos, yet we had to produce our passports 3 times when once would have been adequate. The upgrade of the TV system is excellent when it was working, was down 3 out of 7 days and why they would only have 4 episodes of Love Boat is beyond me as Princess Cruises has always touted their affiliation with the Love Boat series. They should have all of the episodes available. The ones they were displaying were the same ones we had on our Japan Trip last year. The food was not what we consider 5 star, the beef being served in the dining room and buffet was tough and tasteless. My experience in the dining room was excellent (waiter was very attentive) and for the 17th time I did not get assigned to the table with the correct number of passengers, ask for four got two. The 2 production show were superb especially the one with the guest vocalist. The comedian was horrible. , . The disembarkation was was flawless was fast and efficient. Princess air and transfer was excellent, best prices and easy to book, have used it several times and have never had a problem. Read Less

Princess Cruises have always done exceptionally well! Delicious food, clean and modern furnishings, state of the art technology most especially with the Medallion, expert and friendly staff, relaxing environment and a full range of entertainment. The company prioritizes safety from the minute you board all the way to the end. The process of embarkation and disembarkation were easy. We always look forward to waking up in the morning because of the activities they offer daily. Food is excellent with so much variety to choose from. The cabin is kept clean with respect to privacy upon request. The technology is above and beyond with the Medallion. The staff are respectful, accommodating and have shown professionalism. Every minute is priceless while on board. Whether you seek to relax, pampered or be entertained. Princess Cruises deliver the best vacation ever! My wife and I wanted a "special" trip for our 50th anniversary. We have been cruising for 40 years now and enjoy the experience. We elected to go to Hawaii and wanted a round trip cruise. That fact limited us to only two cruise lines Princess and Carnival. The wife said to look at the trip as a celebration not a vacation. We thought since both lines belonged to the Carnival corporation the Princess cruise would be a little more upscale. We chose a Club Class Mini-Suite and air transportation arranged by Princess. The Club Class upgrade included Priority Boarding, I expected the same benefits as Carnival's Faster-2-Fun boarding. Not so, just a different check-in desk. No priority room preparation, no quick luggage delivery, no priority on excursions, and no speedier disembarkation. I'm sure Princess has a target cliental. If that is the case, my wife and I do not fit the criteria. As I said we were celebrating 50th years of marriage and are not all that young. However, we are young at heart, able to walk, like to smile, and do not believe the way to elevate your social stature is to belittle the ship's staff. We found a majority of the passengers were not smiling, used a cane or walker, were rude, and ready to complain about any topic. There were some great things on the ship in spite of the depressing overall attitude of many passengers. The Club Class dining venue was a shining star of service and attitude. Our cabin steward was excellent and kept the cabin in pristine order at all times. Maybe our expectations were just set too high. We expected to "Come Back New". We came back looking for a "Fun Ship". Read Less

The cruise was fabulous. Truly magical! My only complaint was that sometimes the toilet flushed and sometimes it did not. It was a system wide problem and Princess compensated us for our trouble. Still, it was annoying. The dining was wonderful! Food was delicious and our waiter Aurelia and Asst. waiter Lido went out of their way to provide service that went above and beyond. The shows were quite nice. Some of the guest entertainers were not to our taste. They were good, but they played a selection of music that was designed for people in their 80s. Movies under the Stars was great and not too cold. Blankets were provided upon request. The Naturalist onboard was an interesting and engaging speaker. The guest lecturer spoke on Olympic games and the Nobel Prizes. He offered some unique tidbits of information and had personally met many of the people he spoke about. We only booked 3 shore excursions through the ship. One of them was for a tour of the Bishop Museum. Unfortunately, the tour was cancelled and no reason given even though it was listed as sold out. Sadly, we were not informed of the cancellation until 2 days beforehand. By that time most of the excursions were already booked so we had to settle for a less than optimal tour. The best shore excursion was snorkeling in Nawiliwili. The company took pains to keep everyone safe and to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. Ensenada was both safe and fun. We took a locally operated 45min harbor tour through Juanitos (located right along the ocean walk) for $2,50 per person. It was a great deal and got to see sea lions VERY close up (within 7 feet of them). Overall it had a few bumps in the road, but was still a fabulous cruise and would happily do it again! Read Less

However to be fair I never used the apps very much ,its just not convenient for me . The weather was great . The ports were very good but we never seemed to stay very long at them . We were in Mexico for about 10 hours . The use of tenders to get ashore although necessary was a pain . I did enjoy the comedian and the cover band . We did take two excursions one in Jamaica which was a tour of Islands wildlife. And one in Cozumel which was the sunset cruise .. All in all ok Read Less

Aniversary birthday, 15 days what a big ship, excursions were not worth the money go on you own. room was small but the price was right, the casino everyone won, Its been 72 hrs and I'm still rocking. The time changes were confusing. The inside tv was good room service had hot tasty hamburgers. Pizza not so good, ice cream wasn't icecream. The charges for drinks were slow and confusing. The buffet was the same every day lots of fruit, can't get a table in the buffet, you have to get there early or late. dinning was great but having to share, some people talked your head off, cafe lounges can't get a seat they save them for others. The pool loungechairs were taken up with people putting stuff on them to save for others The pool was closed a lot due to rocking on the boat. hot tubs had all the kids in them to get warm. The movies unde rthe stars was way to cold. I won playing slots Read Less

Have been on this ship 3 times before this. First time in a suite which was just wonderful. The crew was so friendly and they went out of their way to make things just right. Club Class dining was really special. You can show up whenever you want and you are seated immediatel by the hostess. The extra attention by the waiter, assistant waiter and the MaitreD was appreciated and the special dishes prepared were very enjoyable. It is going to be difficult to go back to dining in the MDR after being spoiled like we were. Princess Cays is always a great Port to visit. A great couple of hours swimming and relaxing on the beach plus enjoying the barbecue lunch, really kicked off the start of a great cruise. The live shows were shows we had seen before, but high tech lighting sound that have been added really enhanced them. Well done Princess! We have never cruised with Princess but we liked the itinerary to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed! This is a fantastic cruise line. The embarkation was flawless. Our stateroom was ready upon arrival. Everything around the ship was clean always. The entertainment was fantastic. We kept busy going from one venue to the next, not to miss anything. Our favorite was Project 5. They interacted with the crowd and were great musicians. They dedicated a song to us for our anniversary. We were so impressed with the buffet line! So clean and not crowded. Never have seen that on any other ship. We like the any time dining and was seated with a fabulous server, Hardika. He made certain that our dining experience was over the top. The food was good but not fabulous in the Michelangelo. But we were never hungry! We met some of the nicest people on the cruise. The clientele was great. We tried to participate in as much as we could but there was plenty that we just couldn't do. Our room was always clean and in order. The food areas were always clean. The Salty Dog had great food, great pizza. Plenty of pools so there was plenty of shade and room in the hot tub and pool. Easy to get around the ship. Drinks were good. Ports were fantastic! It was so much fun. We will definitely go on another Princess Cruise. Disembarkation was a breeze. Very well organized by all. We were very impressed with all of it. Read Less

We needed to get away and my husband booked this about 2 months prior to sailing. We were towed by a tug backwards out of San Pedro port. I guess the sship is too big to make a u-turn. The food was what you would find on a typical major cruise line: not great, not horrible. My husband calls it banquet food. The only complaint I had was with the scheduling of activities. We had late dining and there were too many times where we couldn't see the production shows, go to trivia, or the game shows because of conflicts with dining. We decided not to get off the ship in Cabo as we don't really like the hassle of the tener ports. In Mazatlan, we took a tour with Flavor Teller and had what the locals refer to as 'second breakfast'. The tour was excellent and the food to die for! I highly recommended Miike (Micah). We took a cooking class in Puerto Vallarta with Cookin' Vallarta where we went to the produce and fish markets with the Chef and then to his home for the cooking lessons and lunch. It was very informative and the food was great!. I also highly recommended Enrique and his hospitality. Embarkation was mainly smooth, although the Ocean Ready signage needs to be better. We were Ocean Ready but didn't see any signs and ended up at a regular check in desk. It took a little longer because of that because they weren't really sure how to handle us. It was probably the fastest and easiest debarkation we've ever had. We had breakfast, and pretty much walked off the ship, got our bags, went through CBP and got to the car in about 10 - 15 minutes. If it was always like this, we would travel more often! Read Less

We traveled with friends to celebrate my wife's birthday we were picked for the Chefs Table which was very important to her and we all enjoyed the experience very much. We had nice time in all the ports. Dining was nice throughout the ship but a little disappointed in the Crown Grill, not up to par at all from past experiences. The ship was in good condition, a few kinks with leaving from San Pedro new pier for Princess. We had a nice time overall. Suites lounge was non existent for embarkation and process was not smooth and Nothing Special for Suites my wife complained, I couldn't care less as long as we get onboard but we pay a lot more for the suites so enjoys it and expects a much better experience. A pleasant surprise was having the Medallion but a little stressful because not expecting it there is a little work required before hand so trying to know which apps and how to download etc. with little information was frustrating and took about to 3rd day to get everything operating correctly. We chose this cruise specifically to cruise Princess Cruise Lines. This particular voyage was to their private island, St. Thomas and St. Marteen. There were not many children on board and the ship caters to a mature crowd. My husband and I enjoyed the huge screen on top as we watched movies and concerts. The ship is beautiful. The food was wonderful and the entertainment spectacular. We did anytime dining and never waited for more than 15 minutes. We also ate in Crown Grill one night and that meal was wonderful. The entire medallion experience was delightful. Not having to unlock cabin doors and bartenders recognizing you when you approach is very nice. Embarkation was a snap. I have never been on a ship by 1:30 pm. We were able to have a nice lunch and change to go up top for the sail away party. Disembarkation was very smooth as well. My hubby & I take Princess Cruises every time we cruise. We go in early Spring every year. I have 7 under my belt now & my hubby has 9. We stayed in Fort Lauderdale over night and were on the Regal Princess Ship by 11:15am on Sunday! That was terrific, we had lunch on the pool deck and went to the cabin at 1pm. Embarkation was smooth sailing, the sail way party was fun and the day was perfect! The 1st port of Call was Princess Cays (the cruise lines private island) we have been to Princess Cays 6 times before, so we just stayed on the ship and had a relaxing spa day. The next day was a Sea Day-we relaxed again w/a few activities on board. Regal Princess is a great ship, but it is not full of water slides or rock walls or diving shows, so some may find the ship a bit boring. We find it just right--for families and w/teens the activity level can be lack luster. That being said many parents just let their kids roam around the ship, ages 11-16 total disgrace. Princess has movies under the stars on the pool deck, in the evenings they show more adult themed movies. One night we went to the movies under the stars (the movie was great by the way!) the teen boys yelled and hooted and disturbed everyone all thru the movies. Several guest went and told them to chill out and keep the screaming down. Well that did nothing, it made it worse. Many fellow passengers (myself included) wondered where in the world the parents are? So you don't parent on vacation? Seems strange to me, and your kids are now everyone else's problem. It was ridiculous! The last night of the cruise one the teen boys came up to me and said do you like my shirt? He had written curse words all over it--and proceeded to yell profanities at myself and other passengers. Again, where are the parents of these kids?? Princess did nothing to stop these kids, I informed them several times as did other passengers. It seems that when you go on vacation these lazy parents just don't care--Princess and fellow guests have to deal with these unruly brats! The cruise itself was terrific, the productions shows are top-notch and the Beatlemaniacs are the best-they are real show stoppers, and totally fun!! The cabin was small, but adequate for just the 2 of us. Again this is not a mega ship--it is not a RC super ship, Regal Princess had 3560 passengers this cruise and that was enough, especially w/unsupervised teenagers running around all day & night. This cruise was a 2 week combo, but we only did the 1st week (last year we did the 2nd part of this cruise) Were told that only 291 guests stayed on for the 2nd week of the cruise, w/others getting on as we got off. St. Thomas had lovely weather, we went to Megans Bay. It was overcrowded w/6 ships in port that day. I can see if only 2-3 ships in port, Megans Bay would have been great. We shopped & had lunch near the cruise port. Both were excellent! St. Maarten we did the Sky Explorer at the Rainforest Adventure & Rockland Estate. It was gorgeous, you took a Sky lift up the side of St. Maarten (this is not for the faint of heart) and could see the entire island! Beautiful! Well worth the price. After 2.5 hours at the Estate we went to the beach and board walk. Had the best burger on the board walk. St. Maarten has the best beach (in my opinion) only 2 ships at port that day, so the beach was not crowded, and the view was awesome! 2 Relaxing Sea days on the way back to Fort Lauderdale (well other the being on the look out for parentless teenage boys) All & all a great cruise, just wondering if we will continue w/the Princess Line? It maybe time to move to Celebrity Cruise Lines. That makes me sad, as I have spent thousands of dollars w/Princess, but I do not go in for terrible teenagers who parents don't care about them & want them to be everyone else's problem! Read Less

Princess is what Carnival used to be when we first started cruising. Princess has fun activities and parties but they are not wild drunken events you will find on a Carnival ship. I wanted to go thru Panama Canal and I had a previous good experience with the Princess Cruise line. I was disappointed on this ship. The food was sometimes below what I expected and the activities on board weren't as fun as my 11 other cruises on various cruise line ships. The musicians were good but there weren't any magic shows or acrobatics on this cruise. The back of the boat view was taken over by the Lotus Spa area that you had to pay extra to be in. The fitness center was in a lower deck with no windows. The shower stalls were so small you couldn't bend over in them. Our waiter was the best thing on the ship. He was friendly and brought out the food fast. Most of the tours were good, but one of the tours on Grand Cayman had so many waiting to touch the Stingray that we only got to touch it once for the hour we were waiting in the water. We liked the chocolates left on the pillow each night. Read Less

I had researched Trip Advisor, Cruise Critic, and my travel agent and only this ship went this route. Embarking was efficient, with time given to us prior and help full assistant's beside line's. When we were asked to stand for the usual cruise picture I saw a blank wall, a tunnel of lights to the side but no usual ship picture that we were looking to board for our trip. This picture was doctored up to include a parrot and a star fish on the bottom and could have been to any world location. So I made sure we took pictures of the Caribbean Princess while tendering, anchored, and I have framed this ship. I thought this unusual not to have a ships picture as a back ground with us as usual. Could of been a sunset, tropical, trip scene, ship at night as we have got while traveling(Tahiti, Polynesia, Hawaii) other countries. We have friends, travel agents, neighbors who recommended Princess Lines to us and so booked this ship do to route port stops. First port Grand Cayman we had booked tour Stingray Encounter, Reef, Snorkel & Scenic Cruise. Worth the money/time, experience (read T.A. review) and book through Caribbean Princess ship. Next port Roatan Is. Hondurous Country. Tour Jolly Roger Catamaran Coastal Sail, Snorkel & lunch. Was one hour late as other tour ship was tied up but they did compensate but long pm in high humidity. Should be more crew on this ship, as no one helping us take off flippers or hand them up or assist us up ladder, no one at bar at times and could be more choice of salads and lunch. Saying that we helped our selves and enjoyed the rum punch. They have two ski doo's for any persons emergency back to the ship. Crew members in the water in kayaks watching and snorkel leader in water on reef. Reef is getting broken, tired, broken fan coral but saw a small amount of tropical fish, eel but not much color. Next port Belize Country previously done tours, ships good. Magill Is. Cozumel there were 7 boats either anchored, docked which made it crazy busy on the dock and in town. Been there three times before but tourist are not told you are approx. 6 miles from the town so need transportation by taxi, horse carriage, bike or scooters. They want your cruise room and ship, credit card, enough cash ect for security, damages or loss. Check your scooter ect out before using them as they will charge you for anything they think was not on the vehicle. It takes 1hr 30 min if not stopping much around the island and a nice interesting paved road trip. We are Seniors and did it with stops and safe road but be aware who sells you things and where you stop. Be very care full of your speed as it will cost you lots if over! Fast debarking and embarking with Princess key fob, great! Service on board- Above average in all area's, but onboard could have more crew attendants at elevators as a few very lost elderly people. Customer service attendants counter quite busy at times but they were excellent. We were on deck 11, stateroom B709 deck, a very excellent location for views, sunsets/rises, restaurants and adult pools and much more convinces. Deck 11 is under the life boats but private, quiet, best area and near elevators which we appreciated. Restaurants- Above average and most excellent. Sea Food Restaurant (Islander?) evening manager dedicated, waiters excellent, service great and the nicest sunset view in the back of the ship! Bars/Lounges- Explore was our favorite because of Franci manager, thankyou! also Micheal (f) who should be a manager on this ship we feel. Lex(M) head manager of the ships bars a great communicator, problem solver (Peter deck pool bar) and a man of his word knows the quality and experience his staff should have at all times. Thank You! Entertainment/main stage- Excellent dancers, orchestra, singers, musicians and humorous ships director who we will never forget the tourist questions onboard his list! Stateroom- We have been on larger ships but good seize and deck. Would suggest to have someone check all areas before we arrive in room, ie sinks, Kleenex, door handle and locks. We had one minor complaint which was fix within 2 hrs, and got two calls and survey right away. A couple of times certain elevators would not open, work, and some not to the floor you wished. But repaired soon. Crew painting on decks should have signs by deck doors. No paint chipping noise when relaxing on decks by pools. I would say that Princess looks after details, complaints, very efficiently, quickly and even verbally from a Supervisor in very excellent time. Thank you. Please reposition the larger t.v. so not in walking distance of deck door. Yes as I have been on other large ships, cruises it is time for a refit and will be going on this ship when completed the next refit in 3-4 months. Excellent communication with Supervisor's and staff and we had a very great time on this cruise! Mostly this trip we feel were people over 45 yrs of age and no problems with crowding or line ups. 2nd time on this ship. It was great. Western and Eastern Caribbean. Both 7 day sections had an age range from mid 30's to mid 60's. Not the kind of ship for under 18, not much to do for that age range. But plenty to do for everyone else. You can hide yourself in total isolation away from crowds to submerging into non stop activities. Anytime Dining was rarely a wait, the Horizon Court buffet always had a great selection. My favorite was the suchi bowls. Lunch time they had noodle bowls. Ate all venues at least once except Sabatinis Italian. Staff was great. Our cabin steward was like stealth, we forgot something in the cabin, and went back 20 minutes later and the cabin was already immaculate. Went to some shows, all were good, but, the comedian was the best. Filled every venue he performed at for 2 nights. Though these cruises were sold out, the ship never seemed crowded. Sea days were the busiest around the pool but if you looked, I always found a deck chair. My wife and I couldn't understand why so many people were on their phones nonstop. Your on vacation people. The medallion that you use to pay and get in your cabin works great even though we didnt bother with downloading everything before our cruise. One scary thing about downloading all the apps on your phone is you can download the casino and play slots with your money anywhere on the ship. And you use your medallion in the casino and just charge it to the cabin. Make sure to control yourself, or your trip could get pricey. The ship was heading to drydock after our cruise to get some upgrades and fix an engine problem that would make the back of the ship vibrate slightly at full speed. Something that has lasted 3 years or so. The only bad thing was we had to leave. Going through withdrawal as my room isn't cleaned twice a day. Read Less

We arrived the day before, choosing a hotel with free transferts from airport and to port. But, they changed the rules before we gat there, so now they charge 10$/pers to port... a taxi cost 25$. We were 4 adults, so we chose the taxi. Embarcation was fast (we are Platinium) and they offer cake and coffe while we wait in a private lounge. The ship, our cabin, dining venues and especialy the service was wonderful! Entertainment was good when the dancers and singers were giving the show, but stand-ups were skeaking too fast for those who were not english speaking (native). Ports : we had been to most of them before, so we just walked around in the neighbourhood, except for Dominica, where we took a tour by Princess (good idea, since it was late and they waited for us!). We were surprised by 2 other family members who joined us for the cruise! They managed to find out our cabin number and booked the cabin just beside us! We then opened the balcony doors to have a 3 cabin balcony... very nice! (for confidentiality... that is another story!) We did the same cruise last year and truly enjoyed both cruises. Read Less

Chose the cruise as part of our 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Princess staff graciously met us at LAX and settled us in a taxi for the ride to Long Beach for a pre-cruise overnight in the Long Beach Hyatt. Good comfortable accommodations, helpful staff and located convenient to walking around a harbor and downtown. Transport to San Pedro port and Princess embarkation were excellent. We had sailed the Ruby previously and were looking forward to repeating a pleasant voyage. The cabin was completely ready when we arrived brightened with new carpeting.Lacking was the Lotus Spa hair conditioner previously provided as part of the amenities for Elite Level passengers. Other Elite passengers noticed the absence, as they too didn't bring their own; an example of Princess trying to save a nickel. The only other cabin problem was the lack of hot water for showers on the last 3 days of the cruise, including debarkation morning. Calls to customer service resulted in only temporary fixes. On the positive side a broken spring on the room safe door hinge was fixed withing hours after reporting it. Were this our first Princess cruise, it likely would be our last because of irregular (one time wretched) food quality, apparent under staffing in dining rooms, and too many staff who don't acknowledge or initiate customer greetings. In anytime dining many dinners were well prepared, if overly salty. Probably the most wretched dinner I have had was a veal dish that had 2 slabs of meat with the consistency of a roofing shingle. In the same meal the dessert was a samosa consisting of tropical fruit and macadamia nuts accompanied by a mint dip. The samosa was like a greasy empanada, and the mint tasteless. The number of serving staff was deficient. Too many meals that started between 6:00-6:30 ended up taking 2+ hours, ruining evening entertainment plans. Lido deck server seemed smile less and conveyed a demeanor that suggested they would rather be elsewhere. Elsewhere, staff met the standards of our prior Princess experiences. Bar servers, especially in the Skywalkers Platinum/Elite lounge were among the best we have experiences. Passenger Services staff were thorough and followed-up on issues. On this category of ship you aren't going to find water slides and climbing walls. But, there are on-board activities to suite most interests. Why Princess continues the pretense of a dress code for dinner is beyond me. A man dressed in cargo shorts was seated in the Michelangelo dining room on a casual dress evening. I doubt that they meet the dress code for "smart casual." .And finding one's way around can be a challenge. Ship maps in public areas contradict each other, even other maps only a few feet away. Example, locations of laundromats. The entertainment was among the best that we have enjoyed on Princess with new stage shows presented by very talented singers, dancers, musical ensemble. In lounges, however, too many events ran over scheduled stopping time, thereby delaying the next program. We especially enjoyed the Walker Black Duo. We were less enthusiastic about Mary Simon, guitarist, who shared too much personal angst in her own compositions. We left midway in a second session. The party band Main Offenders seemed to mistake loudness for talent, perhaps to cover their singer's limitations. We enjoyed all of the comics, and the vocalist Teacake. Providing a delightful Pacific island musical ambiance were Tiki Dave & Leialoha. I was less impressed by naturalist Mark Harris, whose presentations lacked thoughtful development around their topic.Typically there were 3 sub-topics under a main topic. But, nothing tied them together to walk away with feeling, "Gee, I really learned something." We enjoyed all the ports. A helicopter ride on Kauai with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters was a highlight. I flew with them on the Big Island in 2005. They still set the standard of excellence for helicopter excursions. It was my wife's first; she didn't want it to end. Whale watching at Maui was disappointing. The company seems to have had a fixed area to cover. All that we can say is that we saw the backs of a coupe of whales. Later in the day a companion on a snorkel excursion reported that they saw quite a bit of whale activity at the other end of the bay. On the Big Island, the excursion to the lava fields was interesting, as we got a good impression of how the island was formed. Disappointing on the Honolulu harbor excursion was food quality. Vegetables seemed under cooked, and perhaps contributed to stomach distress felt later that night. Also excursion meeting arrangements were poorly handled in Terminal 11. Our group assembled on time, but were delayed 25 minutes in being shuttled to the excursion boat.It was difficult for several people with mobility disabilities, as there were no seats. A security supervisor chewed out one of his staff who offered "his" chair to a man much in need. We stayed on the ship in Ensenada. Since we have lived and traveled extensively in Mexico, a packing day was in order. After 4 sea days over to Hawaii and 5 sea days back, and several books read, we were ready to return home with good memories and several noted above that shouldn't have occurred on Princess and hopefully will not repeat. Debarkation through port facilities was smooth and well managed. Read Less

We’ve sailed with Princess in the past and know we will get a high quality ship and experience. Our recent cruise from LA to Hawaii and back was no different. Beautiful ship, comfortable mini-suite, fun activities, terrific crew, and a bunch of food. It took 4 days to get to Hilo. We visited Hilo, Honolulu, Kauai and Maui. Then 5 days to Ensenada, Mexico and one final day to LA. The boarding and disembarkation processes were very smooth. All of the islands were beautiful & offered different sites. Hilo is full of volcanoes. Honolulu has Pearl Harbor and Luaus. Kauai has waterfalls and beaches where movies were filmed. Maui is the nicest. Nice downtown near the port with plenty of shops. Would recommend Kimos for lunch. Right on the Pacific, great fish tacos and a huge Ice cream cake desert. Ensenada was a disappointment though. Not much to see or do. Read Less

Celebrating our 50th anniversary -- always wanted to cruise to Hawaii! Long days at sea -- special!! I have to admit after reading a number of reviews of the Ruby I was unsure if we chose the right ship - so we decided to make the best of it. Which we did - sure it's not perfect but so much of what I had read seemed to have been fixed or I just didn't notice. Flew in the day before staying in Long Beach at the Hampton -- the service and room was wonderful. Great area with small restaurants right across the street. Got a Lyft to the port the next day which took over a half hour. Embarkation was disappointing as I felt like they were herding cows -- "go there, go here" and some of the workers were rude even yelling at us for going where we were told to go!! So it wasn't a good start. Disembarking was better but they need more porters as my husband had to go outside the terminal to get someone to help with the luggage. We had a balcony room on deck 10 -- the balcony was the biggest we've ever had. The room was very nice/clean - closet was huge. Lots of room to store things. The BED was the most comfortable we've ever had on a cruise. Our room steward was so helpful and kept our room clean daily -- and our sheets were changed at least three times during our 15 days onboard. Food was the most disappointing - only ate in the dinning room four times -- food wasn't anything to write home about so we ate at the buffet that way we could try some things and then go back to get what we liked. The service in the dinning room was great but unfortunely very slow getting the food out. Service in the Horizon Court (Lido Deck) was very good and attentive. There was alot to do onboard - some of our highlights were -- Mark Harris a Naturalist who had so much to share about the ocean, birds, etc. The Walker Black Duo - a husband/wife team who did a fabulous job night after night singing in different lounges. Enjoyed a number of movies "under the stars" -- they provided blankets, popcorn, pizza and cookies!! They ran a number of movies and concerts during the day too. Shore excursions -- Hilo - Volcanoes National Park - Kilauea -- so worth the trip. Never heard of this before but there was a free shuttle to Wal-Mart!!(I believe it was provided by Roberts Hawaiian Tours.) After our tour we jumped on the shuttle (10 minute drive) to purchase souvenirs and macadamia nuts! Oahu - Island Safari Jeep Tour -- wow!! A 6 hour private tour of the island. Our guide was Sean who had a great personality and certainly knew the island. For lunch we stopped at Giovanni's food truck and ordered the most amazing garlic shrimp! Kauai - Journey to Waimea Canyon (Roberts Hawaii tour). Nani was our bus driver - very entertaining and knowelable. Waimea Canyon is a must see - Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Maui - Whale Watching Tour - so cool -- humpback whales. After the tour we stayed in town (which has a lot of little shops) then took the tender back to the ship. Ensenada - disappointed that the ship had to stop here. We did take a shuttle to town - not impressed at all! Walked back to the pier and were glad to get onboard. So overall our cruise onboard the Ruby was "special"!! Read Less

We decided before we went on this cruise that we would accentuate the positive; nothing is perfect...and our outlook would determine our enjoyment. We had a wonderful time! Overall, the staff was professional and wanting to please...the dining room food was good...and our mini suite was comfortable, although it seemed smaller that those we’ve had on other Princess ships. A minus was the size of our balcony...very small, but held two chairs, an ottoman AND a small, round dining table. Problem was, the table took up so much room, that we couldn’t put our feet up on the ottoman, nor recline our chairs ... not enough room. We asked to have the table removed, but were told it wouldn’t fit thru the cabin door. So we kept it next to the bed as another night stand during the entire two weeks. Two big pluses are Alfredo’s and the sea food/sushi bar! Wonderful! We ate dinner there Instead of dressing up on the four formal nights. And the late brunch/lunch in the Concerto dining room on sea days was elegant...reminiscent of cruising in the “old days!” Food on the Regal was ok... nothing really special in the dining rooms, other than their perfectly made crime brûlée for dessert, and a perfectly toasted bagel served with a mountain of lox. Dinner at the Crown Grill was disappointing; it’s not contained, is very loud and the tables crowded together. The meal was no better than the dining room. We ate at Horizon Court twice, and didn’t go back. Food is not properly seasoned, sauces are bland, and nothing that was supposed to be served hot, WAS hot. And for the most part, the staff seemed bored and put upon when we asked for napkins and salt. On the up side.... we loved the layout of the ship...loved all the nooks and crannies where we could sit to read, or to have a drink and talk. We’re people who cruise for the time on board...our balcony... and to relax. We could sail on a ship to “nowhere” and be happy! The Regal is a beautiful ship. Crooners was great... very friendly staff and good drinks! We’re going home VERY happy people and would do it all over again next month if we could! We went platinum after the first week, and will definitely be looking for another Princess Cruise in the near future! Read Less
