We have cruised on Carnival and Royal Caribbean, and wanted to try a different line. We chose this cruise for the destinations and the length. We were also doing a last minute booking and the dates worked out for us. Getting on the ship was confusing at first. There were only about 4 people trying to get thousands of people on board. Once we found the correct line, getting on the ship took only about 20 minutes from start until we were in our room. The dining room and some of the small eateries were open so you could grab a bite before setting sail. Our inside cabin, even though small, was not cramped. We had plenty of room to move around. It was clean, and the steward was very friendly and attentive. We had a problem with the TV, but who watches TV on a cruise?! We went with the anytime dining which worked out good for us because we were off the boat at all the ports and didn't want to be held to a certain time to dine. We had no problems either making reservations or showing up whenever we wanted. We never waited more then 5-10 minutes to be seated. The food in the dining rooms was excellent! Portions were adequate. We were able to order multiple appetizers, and even more than one entree if we couldn't make up our mind. Waiters and staff were very friendly! The entertainment was surprisingly good. Our other cruises the entertainment seemed a little amateurish. The singers and the shows were original and very polished. Absolutely loved the comedian. He was even funny the times we ran across him on the ship. We visited 6 ports on this cruise. (Aruba, Bonaire, Dominica, Grenada, St. Thomas, Grand Turks.) This was one of the main reasons for selecting this sailing. All of them were great. Had no issues with overly pushy islanders. And never felt unsafe. We had already been to St. Thomas so we grabbed a ferry to St. John. So glad we did. St. John was beautiful, with amazing beaches. The best beaches of all the islands we visited! The only time I wasn't completely happy was on Grand Turk. It was a very nice island, We paid money for an excursion to a recommended beach. We would have stayed by the boat if we had had known how nice the beaches were directly adjacent to the where the ship docked. The beaches were as nice if not nicer than the one on the excursion. Not a complaint, just an FYI. I would definitely sail on Princess again. The ship had everything you could ask for. The crew and staff are friendly and helpful. During at sea days there was plenty to keep you busy, and the pool areas never felt over crowded. Side note.. On Sunday... They had the NFL football game showing on the jumbo screen on deck! .............. Does it get any better than that!?!?! Read Less

Well the ship its self is magnificent....in all her glory!! What's changed: well last year I would say the average age on board was 45....this tie more Ike 65!!! Princess...a few years you'll be out of business!!! We decided to t for the inside cabin rather than the balcony..cabin great size and di the job grand. A few povinte on this however: on boarding at 3pm we were swiftly allocated our cabin cards and checked in prompt, however when we got to our cabin it seems a few things were not up "to standard" no toilet roll bed not right and clearly not vacuumed since the previous occupants left!! Food, well you can never really complain, however the Buffett seemed rather scarce this time with only half open with a full ship....well it caused a bit of confusion Decided this time round to purchase the "all inclusive" drinks package... whilst sitting at the bar my husband produced my card to get me a drink and was accused of card sharing... well that didn't go down well as the bar man made a scene in front of fell ow passengers causing great embarrassment to both of us.. ohh and he doesn't drink alcohol!! Anyway, royal you need a deep clean as the standards are slipping dramatically. Such a shame as our 1st cruise onboard was faultless. Read Less

Crew not very friendly almost seemed like you were a bother. Not all but a majority. Shouldn't take 2 1/2 to 3 hours to eat. I don't mean waiting to be seated and eating I mean from time we sat at table till end. Some bartenders never made eye contact or spoke. Had a better experience on the Caribbean Princess . Will not sail on this ship again. On a positive note the food was good. Didn't like design either, only a couple decks could you walk around ship. We did have a very nice experience with our Balcony Dinner..The server (wish I remember name , he was one of the Better crew member) was very professional, friendly and funny! The food was Great 4 courses and everyone delicious, so much food !! Plus a cocktale of your choice, champagne and flowers, also a picture all for 100.00 A must do. Read Less

This was our first cruise. My husband and I LOVED it! We already booked another Princess cruise to Alaska in August 2017. The personnel on the ship were amazing! Isagani was our steward, amazing young man. Always with a smile on his face, knew us by name, made us feel "like home". The young men at the restaurant, Phillip and Cesar (I believe I'm right about their names) were fantastic. Very nice, great customer service, very knowledgeable about the dishes, etc. Every evening was such a great experience! We sat on table 369, and it was just perfect! Then we met other staff members from all over the world, and EVERYONE was so, so pleasant!! The shows were fantastic! the music, the costumes, the theater, EVERYTHING was simply amazing! We went to all the shows every single night! We had dinner and then we went to the shows, my husband and I felt like we had "a date" every single evening! The cruise itself was clean, nice, simply beautiful. We can't wait to travel the world in PRINCESS!! THANKS EVERYONE AND THANKS PRINCESS CRUISES FOR A MAGNIFICENT EXPERIENCE!! Read Less

The time of year, duration, and destinations of this cruise was just right for both couples going on this cruise. I have always cruised with Carnival in the past, and probably will do so again (good times to be had by all) and have always totally enjoyed those experiences; thus Princess, being in the same corporate family as Carnival, has been on my radar for a long time. The entertainment on this cruise was outstanding - over the top - excellent; and I'm referring to the live shows to be more specific. Dancing, singing, props, and music - totally amazing; and the fact that they did all of those amazing super professional performances at sea - in motion - was astounding. My opinion - if you go on a Princess Cruise go for the shows; or the food. Actually - referring to the awesome comestible presentations during our evening meal as mere "food" is an injustice. Our group of four (hard working retired middle class fun loving drunks) preferred the late scheduled seating - 'cause we're recently retired semi-old folks and prefer to be doted on a bit and enjoy meeting and talking and having fun - and we did all that - and there you have it! Good Times! Read Less

We sailed on the Caribbean Princes Novermber 5th-13th. This was my 13th and my husband's 10th cruise. This was our 2nd Princess cruise. We didn't care for Princess the first time we sailed with them 3 years ago. The people were so stuffy and obnoxious. I received an exceptional offer from Princess and decided to give them another go. Glad we did! We stayed at the Hilton Beach Resort in Ft. Lauderdale. We took an Uber to the port. Embarkation was fairly smooth and quick. We arrived around 11:00-11:15 am. It took about 30 minutes from security/check in until we were aboard. Not too bad. The service was really good. Our cabin steward, Jonathan was a nice guy and kept our cabin clean. We were in cabin C230, on the Caribe Deck. We could hear some noise from the hallway but most of the time if was quiet. The balcony is quite large and we spent a lot of time out there. You could fit probably 4 people on the balcony and still have some room! The balconies below us had no shade but ours was partially shaded which helped on those hot days. The cabin is fairly close to elevators and there was a very handy laundry room just down the hall. We are Gold status and get no laundry perks. Bring your own detergent (found in the travel/trial size section of most grocery/drug stores) to save money. The machines takes tokens which you can purchase with your sail card. Unfortunately, the cabin was tired and is in need of updating. There was a running water sound coming from the ceiling in the bathroom, the carpets were worn, the curtains were ripped, the sink was cracked and chipped, the light in the bathroom was yellowed and worn and the toilet had an iffy flush. *Tip: keep your curtains drawn while in port. It will help keep the room cooler. We opted for anytime dining based on our excursions and timing in ports. The food in the Island Dining room was very good. We enjoyed meeting new people every night. The service was fast and mostly prompt. We ate most breakfasts in the Coral Dining room and never had an issue. There wasn't a huge selection but it beat the lines, crowds and trying to find a table at the buffets. We did eat at the buffets for lunch a few times and one breakfast. It was quite good and if we walked long enough we were able to find a table. Some people just gave up and asked to sit with others. I don't blame them! Of course there were folks who decided it was perfectly OK to play a round of cards after having lunch paying no mind to others who were desparate for a seat. Gotta love it! LOL We made reservations at the Crown Grille which we had enjoyed on our previous cruise on the Crown Princess. The food was good but the service was very mechanical, serious and rushed. We ate at Sabatini's for our 10 year wedding anniversary one night. The service was excellent. My mother is from Italy and I am a very picky eater when it comes to Italian cuisine. I thought the food was well prepared and delicious. The entertainment, (what we saw of it, not really our thing) was OK. We saw one comedy show that was just OK. We also watched a dance/music show the first night that was decent but didn't blow my socks off. The entertainment is definitely geared towards an older crowd. We are in our early 40's and mid 30's. We managed to have a great time and made some wonderful friends on board. The trivia was fun as was the comedy cooking show. We had been to Aruba and Curacao before but not Bonaire. All are lovely ports and I would go back again, especially Aruba. We did the 4x4 excursion in Bonaire. It was a neat way to see the island but if you have back, knee or foot problems or if you are on the hefty side, I don't suggest this excursion. There are no seatbelts, no grab bars and the seats are very small. We were smushed in the back of the open air truck. My back was sore for about 2 weeks afterwards. All in all it was neat but I wouldn't do it again and I consider myself to be fairly fit! The cruise was a wonderful trip. We really enjoyed it and will sail with Princess again. Happy Cruising! We love Princess Cruise Line and especially being able to sail from a port near our home. It was so easy getting aboard; everything went so smoothly and the ship was as ready to have us aboard as we were to embark. Our bags were delivered to our door almost as soon as we got to the room so we were unpacked and ready to explore even before the Life Review. Leaving the SF Bay and getting out in the Pacific waters we experienced a bit of rough seas but our Capitan's Team had things under control and of course the entire staff on board were great and used to the tilting of the ship. Our sail from SF to the Islands was 4 days but with all the things to do on board those days, evenings and nights were filled with lots of good things to keep us busy and entertained. The dining was great with friendly and gracious wait-staff. We chose anytime dining and enjoyed being seated with many different people, exchanging entertaining dinner conversation with a wide variety of folks from the US and England as well. We had chosen our tours ahead of time from the descriptions on line and we were not disappointed. Princess had taken care of the hard part of getting to our tour. Although it was the rainy season in Hawaii, we lucked out in not only NOT having rain but to having sunshine every day. We enjoy very much our days with Princess and their choice of staff and entertainers. This was our 15th cruise with Princess and we always feel welcomed and at home during our days afloat. We are looking forward to our next adventure with a Princess cruise! Read Less

This is our second cruise on the Royal Princess, the first being in Europe. The clientele are different but the service and food is wonderful. Our balcony cabin was fine and our steward took care of our every need. The "Balcony Dinner" was amazing and for the $100 fee it is one of the biggest bargains on the ship. You will be served in the privacy of your stateroom and the service will be exceptional. The food was cooked perfectly and more than enough. From the pre-dinner cocktail to the petifores at the completion of the meal, everything was exceptional. The dinning in both the Allergo Dining room, the Trident Grill and the Horizon Court was top notch. The decor of the ship is pleasing and very relaxing. Don't miss the Crooners Bar for the BOGO at 3:00 PM for an excellent start to an evening. We will cruise on the Royal Princess again. Read Less

NYC to FLL via Regal Princess - with 2 pre-cruise nights in NYC. We were on the very, very early morning flight from Edmonton to Toronto to Laguardia Airport. Perfect flights, connections and timing with Air Canada. Can't say enough good about the fine help and signage at YYZ airport. Security and US Customs both quick, cheerful and top notch. Arrival at LaGuardia exactly on time and as great luck would have it, ours was the VERY first luggage off! We called an UBER who was there literally within 5 min which was another miracle considering LGA traffic! Further Heavy traffic meant a one hour drive to Manhattan but we didn't care being Uber isn't based on time. We considered it to be a New York tour! $34.16 US. EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE. Our hotel, The French Quarters, is very highly rated on TripAdvisor for good reason. Let's say "we are thrilled". The big thick towels and Keurig machine are great touches at this point in a travel day! Supper at the restaurant right here - Bourbon Street Grill - also excellent. $45 for 1 drink, 1 grilled chicken wrap, and 1 pulled pork sandwich. Huge portions and delicious- we could easily have shared one meal. Ambiance fantastic. The nearby streets are lined with great looking Bistros, of all persuasions. We could stay here a month and just eat! After Diner, we walked to Winter Gardens where we had prebooked tickets to the musical "School of Rock." I booked great seats B 104 and 103 a few days ahead. Very expensive and a real indulgence! The walk was a casual 15 min - easy peasy. The show is excellent due to the awesome cast of 18 children and adults too of course. The story itself, follows the book/movie to a T. After the show, we walked back and felt perfectly safe. Our hotel room, though right facing the street, still allowed for a good night and a sleep in! Unheard of for me. In fact we almost missed breakfast !! Breakfast here at The French Quarters is a simple little buffet, but perfect - yoghurt, boiled egg, cereal and fruit. And of course coffee and juices. The sunroom, where this mini buffet is, though quaint and ambient was freezing! I expect that in the summer it's sweltering! We enjoyed every minute of this lovely gem of a guesthouse. Let's keep it our little secret! Our New York Day was also FREEZING....and I say that as an Albertan who was wearing her down winter coat! I had tossed in gloves "just in case". Thank goodness but ....my warm hats are all at home. Shoot!!! We wandered about Times Square, shared a salad at Bubba Gumps and decided on last minute matinee tickets for BEAUTIFUL which is the story of Carol King's life. Having owned her 8 track, cassette tape, CD and now we both have her music on our phones, we thought this a good bet. Last minute bargain tickets were great but we were a bit disappointed in the show itself. A lot - the majority of the songs - were ones she had written but not performed herself. Rather they were performed by the Drifters and others. Certainly part of her story, but simply not our taste. Also the Sondheim theatre is perishing cold with uncomfortable seats! Not a patch on Winter Gardens which is gorgeous! Glad we went though - just one of those "once in a lifetime" things! We enjoyed a little more browsing Times Square after the musical but the cold certainly sped up our walk back to The French Quarters! Popped in to Walgreens - have never seen such costly toiletries in my life!!!! Stupid us - who would wait til Times Square to buy their mouthwash??!! Dinner back at French Quarters seemed like a warm and comfortable idea which it was indeed - a great repeat of last night's good food and service! Awesome to be cozy back in our adorable room, with its hot water and huge screen tv. Prince Michael settled into an Islanders vs Boston hockey game which he's wishing he'd bought tickets for! There were 3 NHL games on within an hour. Aargh- blew that! Well today was the exciting boarding day which doesnt grow old. After a second great night at French Quarters (and btw, I'll never stay anywhere else in NYC!), and a second perfect breakfast, we called another UBER who was there in four minutes! Yes, four minutes in New York City. Am I sold on uber or what!? It was a 54 minute trip for $38.51 Traffic was crazy - took that long to go 9.6 miles! However, once at the port, I've never been whisked thru the security and check in process so quickly. The Brooklyn Red Hook staff have A LOT to learn about pleasantries, but we'll get lots of smiles and politeness on the ship. So for now we bit our tongues and followed their barking orders, glad at least for their efficiency! Boarding started at noon with the usual stampede. Excellent to see some familiar faces as we embarked! Flor from Mexico waiting for us in the International Cafe and Ivan from Serbia smoothing the way to our perfect time and table in the dining room where Ana looks after us. Our STATEROOM - Emerald deck 08 room 623. Balcony is a good size with lots of room for the two chairs and a little table. However it is a Fully Obstructed Balcony room. We were very curious as to what that would look like? To sum up, our opinion is that we'd happily book this room again as the $$ savings were significant enough to pay for our two luxury days in NYC. Plus it is right across from the laundry room. I had a big load washed and dried before we even set sail! We get free "send away" laundry as we're elite status but.... sometimes you want your stuff back sooner than three days! I did hear one lady furious about having a tender outside her balcony. She is yet another case of not paying attention to what YOUVE booked. She's likely the one with the "wrong" dining time too! I think that the PORT OF NYC-Red Hook, and Quebec City offer the most beautiful sail a ways. Vancouver comes in a very close three way tie! Sadly it was raining today so sail away wasn't as lovely as it can been. We could see lady liberty from our quote fully obstructed balcony unquote no problem though. Also governors island was particularly nice in it's fall colours. DINING ROOM - Anytime Symphony ... We prefer a fixed time so choose a table for two and waiter which will work after we board the ship and see how the first night goes. Yummy yummy to start the dining experience with those amazing crispy spring rolls, and wind up with hazelnut chocolate soufflé. Life could be worse! We wandered around the music venues and beautiful ship. The welcome aboard show doesn't hold appeal when you've just seen two Broadway shows!! Must settle in for a relaxing day at sea coming up!!! It feels good to unpack, knowing it's for 10 days! Read Less

The crew and staff there for us for any need. We had a balcony in the aft section of the ship. While we had a few scattered days of weather, we never felt any motion in our cabin. The dining was excellent, both in the buffet and formal dining room. Service in both courteous, attentive, and friendly. Princess makes it easy to embark and disembark the ship in a timely manner. We enjoy the coffee card perks . The Captain was visible often and more than friendly as he stood by the gangway greeting passengers. They are the best people to do this for the passengers!!! The crafts were awesome, the hula dancing, learning the ukulele, the show, everything was amazing! The captain was superb! The cabin stewards seemed a bit overworked though. Took a long time to get our room cleaned each day. Having too many rooms to clean... We had 1 great excursion & 2 awful ones. Embarkation: Was very smooth and organised. We arrived at 10:45 and were in the Horizon Buffet at 12:30. Check-in staff was very polite and inviting. Our rooms were ready soon after. Stateroom: Was on the Emerald deck aft, with a large balcony. The room was very tidy and clean and shortly after our Steward Rex came and introduced himself. He is very conscientious about his work and had our ice bucket filled every day. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the closet was very large, shower is small with a curtain, we made due. Staff: Were the best. They couldn't do enough for us.Greetings and smiles all the time. They work hard and deserve our utmost respect. In the Horizon Buffet, we mention Andrijana Nad, a beautiful, charming and hard-working young lady from Serbia. She stands out as our favorite server in the morning. 10/10 The entire staff was however very competent. Tables were cleared very quickly and they would get us anything we wanted (tomato juice etc). Guests; 50% Asian, large group of Australians. Others were mostly from USA, UK, and Canada. The ship: is beautiful, nice size, many bars and restaurants. It is however dated a bit (hot tubs do not work well, need replacing as well as the leather worn chairs in the theater. The crew works very hard maintaining it well. The layout is a bit confusing at first. Use level 7 to get from one end to the other. Food: In the dining room Santa Fe, we enjoyed our meals there, superb service and perfect portion sizes. We also had dinner a few times in the Horizon Court, lots of variety of entrees and deserts. All very tasty and perfect for us. Entertainment:The production shows were excellent and (except for the 1st- a little too contemporary for us), and Bravo being the best. We also enjoyed Chris Watkins,Tommy Proulx, Aiden and Evelyn, Monique Dehaney and Dream Zone. Musicians on board were all fabulous. Lee Childers, the cruise director did a very good job entertaining us. The ship's Captain Todd McBain kept us informed everyday of the weather, the ports of call, all in a very calm fashion. Thank you Captain! We would like to mention the first Princess Patter. Great idea to list all entertaining guests and musicians on board. !!! Ports: Singapore: Stayed there 4 days prior to the cruise. What a beautiful city-lush and green everywhere. People are very friendly and helpful. A good blend of old and modern. We did the Hop-on Hop-off and visited the entire city and surroundings. Went up the Marina Sands Hotel for a drink. What an amazing hotel!!! Visited Chinatown twice and Clark Quay-beautiful but expensive. Very hot and humid. Do carry water with you at all times. The metro system is easy to use. Bangkok: We took a ship tour to Pattaya-Sanctuary of Truth. It is huge, ornately carved of teak, situated oceanfront. Amazing and all hand-carved by mostly women. A must to see. Later, we had 1.5 hour for shopping. We would have liked to shop in a local market instead of a large modern mall. We feel that we would have helped the local economy more by purchasing their hand-made wares!! Good tour and reasonably priced. Ho Chi Minh: This city is far from the port. We didn't want the long hot 2 hours drive to the city. My husband took the free shuttle to a little town shopping area close to the pier and walked around some. He returned early and said he enjoyed his time there. Hong Kong:This is a HUGE city with thousand of skyscrapers. We opted for the cruise tour: Hop-on Hop-off. The shuttle brings us to the Ferry Pier where we board our bus. We did the red and green line in the one day. Price of 58$ also included tickets for the tram up the Peak and a Sampan ride (small chinese boat) at Aberdeen stop. Returned to ship at 5pm. Very good day! Beautiful skyline at night. Shanghai: We took a ship tour to visit a Temple, Garden and local market. Our guide was very good, organized and time went fast as we visited and admired so much. Busan: My husband took a half-day ship tour to visit a Temple (many steps-I don't do steps) followed by more shopping... He enjoyed the tour. Nagasaki: We docked close to the city. We walked around for a few hours. It was raining and gloomy. An OK port. Beijing: We arranged our own transfer to our hotel in the city and stayed there 4 days. We booked a day tour with Viator ( Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City and the Great Wall). A very long day but super interesting and amazing sights. We walked around a lot (The hutong), shopping street close to our hotel. Enjoyed this busy city. Again, this is a very large city, with much traffic. Takes some time to get used to the Chinese pace of life. All in all, this was an superb cruise and Princess delivered well. We will not hesitate to cruise again with them. Read Less

We had many people telling us how good Princess Cruises were particularly for cruising New Zealand, plus Princess departs from Brisbane. We were not disappointed and everything about the cruise was fantastic - the Stateroom, the crew, the food and dining, the excursions, the organisation of everything was perfect. We were spoilt rotten especially when we had the Renewal of our Vows which was very special. We cannot wait to go again, and highly recommend Princess Cruises to everyone. Embarkation was fairly tiring for us oldies, whereas Disembarkation was so well organised and went so smoothly. We loved the Rigoletto Dining experience and our waiters looked after us exceptionally well. The ship itself was great (not too big for us) and we enjoyed walking the deck every day, and having our morning coffee outside (we were very lucky with weather). Shore excursions excellent, well organised. Very relaxing, being able to do or not do whatever one wanted. Did not want for anything. Read Less

We went on this cruise with Other family members, this was our first Princess cruise and the first thing that I liked was the fast on time boarding we had, our luggage showed up shortly after. The food was really great at the buffet, but at our dinners every night it was just fabulous, our servers we excellent and very attentive to our needs. We purchase the drink special and it fit very nicely in our cruise, but it almost made us have to drink more to try and get our moneys worth, maybe if it was a little cheaper it would fit better for more people to afford. I had a massage and it was well worth it. Very classic Cruise style. More for the elderly than young. Very romantic, Food only good at specialty restaurants and main dining room. avoid the buffet unless your a fatty and DO NOT ORDER Room service. Dined at least once in all restaurants, the best is chops grill, alfredos pizza was also excellent, the rest not so much. The Santuarry was fully booked from the first day we got on wich i thought was not cool specially because i was looking forward to that and i had a mini suite and paid a lot in food and beverage. The gala night is very well crafted and the Champagne fountain is a great touch too. The ship is magnificent and overall well taking care of, staff goes from great to fine, many do go out of their way to serve you and are friendly. No unlimited internet package so if your a person that needs internet you are gana pay a very high price. i thought that was unaceptable and like many other thing i felt they do nickle and dime you alot in averything they can think of. We are a married couple in our 50s and have cruised Celebrity, RCCL, and Princess (enough to be Platinum). We also cruised Regal Princess last year, so we felt like we knew the Royal. We did the 5 day cruise from FLL to Mexico right after the ship returned from dry dock in Italy. In general, there were few surprises. We got what we expected for the most part. The opening of the center stair to passengers definitely eased the bottleneck at the center elevators. Some suggestions for Princess: What is a vegan?? The menus in the MDR are not vegan-friendly. They are very proud of their "vegetarian" offerings (often only one) which are heavy on cheese and cream so are not easily adapted for vegans. The head waiter tried to be helpful, but he was simply not knowledgeable. We usually opt for the buffet to avoid all the trouble in the MDR. We find that the buffet on RCCL often has Indian food (with lentils for protein) or Thai curries (with tofu). The options on the Royal buffet were more limited for vegans. No, we don't just eat salad!! Anyway, for 5 days we made due. We knew what we were getting into and we went with a good attitude. Maybe Princess will evolve... Our MDR waitress (first time we had a woman!) was excellent. Buffet waitstaff was variable. Kudos for always getting us soy milk promptly. How is room service?? I can't tell you. Over 5 days, I tried calling room service at different times of the day. I always got a "please hold" message and NEVER actually talked to a human. I waited at least 10 minutes before giving up. ROOM SERVICE IS A FICTION IF YOU CAN'T PLACE AN ORDER. I called passenger service to seek their help, but I never got through there either!! Passenger service was helpful when I stood in line and saw them face to face. Deluxe balcony cabin. We enjoyed this cabin. There was plenty of room and storage. Bed was comfortable. We agree with other complaints regarding the towels. Think Holiday Inn, not Ritz. Room attendant was adequate. In summary, we had a nice, brief birthday get-away. We know what to expect and try to go with the flow. Some room for improvement. Read Less

We got on the ship in san pedro. the port was neat and clean and embarking was handled very professionally. the ruby princess was clean and inviting. this was the 2nd time on this ship and we are going back next year to do the same cruise, the california coastal. dining was excellent with wonderful servers who were very attentive. i personally loved singing with the princess pop choir. it was a lot of fun and i met nice people. will definitely do that again. the ports were all we have been to before which is why we decided to do this cruise again. next year they will go the monterey instead of santa barbara which is a plus for us as we love monterey. traveling with my husband was lots of fun. we met nice people on board and made some nice friendships. love the cuise staff and especially loved the head chef and matre d and there show. getting off the ship was handled very efficiently. with all of the above, and more positives for princess, we not only booked for us next year but for my sister as well. she is coming from south florida for this cruise and we are looking forward to a wonderful week on board the ruby princes. If you love Princess cruise line, then you must try the Regal or Royal Princess. We had the pleasure to experience both and this time it was the Regal Princess. The ship was beautiful and amenities plentiful....staff, entertainment and food was best of the best. Pleasant surprise that even the speed of internet was considerably faster than older Princess ships....we know because we've had some frustrations before but not this time on Regal...it's simply fast. For seafood lovers I recommend joining the Crab Shack night, the portion was BIG and delicious...besides the traditional Alaskan king crab legs, you can also choose lobster tails, prawns, crawfish, mussels etc. Value for the money is unbeatable. For on shore excusions, Princess worked with these bus tour companies that give you knowledgeable and friendly tour guides. At Halifax our bus tour guide was a retired school teacher and the lady bus driver was a former flight attendant...not only were they knowledgeable and took pride of explaining to your the landmarks, but they actually told you heart wrenching stories about how the City of Halifax buried many bodies from the Titanic disaster and how they personally knew some families that took in stranded flights into Halifax because of the 9/11 attacks....one amazing story a young couple planning to get married in New York was stranded in Halifax and a local family took them in for housing accommodation. They decided to get married at Halifax and the local family because their witnesses for the wedding. Even today they keep contact with this family and the kids from both families became friends. We paid lots of money for this cruise, and thought that service and food quality would be much better than pervious cruises that we have been on and we were dead wrong!! We were on the crown princess sailing to Hawaii and the South Pacific and the service and food quality was the worst we have ever seen!! My wife and I were sick from the food sometimes. They would serve the same food every week. The servers had a bad attitude at times and we waited sometimes 45 mins to be given a menu. One night we got up and left after this frustration!! The shore excursions were overpriced, compared to the same excursions by local agencies. The entertainment was good and the ports were good and interesting. We would only go again if the cost was much lower, and the food and service was professional and excellent. I don't recommend this cruise line to anyone who wants excellent food and service for the money. We are very disappointed in this cruise and cruise line. They nickel and dime you for everything!! This was our 25th wedding anniversary we were very disappointed!! Read Less

I have sailed at least six times over the past 20 years in the South Pacific and always found the conditions ideal for a relaxing 'disconnect' from all the distractions at home. I retired about 3 years ago so when I started shopping for a new cruise this past fall the length and location of this particular cruise seemed perfect. Last minute discounts for new bookings was also very helpful since I was traveling alone. I have sailed on the Princess line on at least six previous times starting when we had young children with us in the early 90s. All of our experiences on this cruise line have been very positive. I like to describe it to others in car terms as the 'Fully Loaded Chevrolet'. The ship was in very good condition and the crew are all very nice. The on board entertainment was generally good. The outdoor movie theater was really wonderful for both movies and live sporting events (NFL games & World Series) but was TOO loud on occasion. The shore excursions were very well organised and interesting. I have come to the conclusion from past experience that the prices for these services have been raised so much that you can do much better by booking your own tours either in advance or immediately on shore when you arrive. I would estimate your savings in the 30 to 50% range. The food and service in the dining rooms was of Four Star quality which is the same from all my previous cruises on Princess. The one item that has definitely become a major profit center is ANY alcoholic beverage. I would estimate that the pricing is at least 30% over what you would pay for similar services on shore. So from the view of the AA this is a friendly atmosphere! Overall the experience on this LONG cruise was very good (20 sea days) and what made it exceptional were the variety of people from all walks of life who you could easily meet in the dining rooms on a random basis for breakfast, lunch & dinner! We choose this cruise as it was one we had wanted to do & it worked out to be very conveniently for us. It went to all the places we wanted to see esp. the Panama Canal. It started where we wanted it to & on the day we wanted & ended on the day we wanted. So it worked out great for us. The Islands we stopped at were great, the weather, food on the ship was fantastic, & the people at our table & the ones we met at other tables were also so nice. Entertainment was fantastic!!! The people that did the entertainment are so good they could perform on stage. We really enjoyed the tour of the kitchen & I was sorry I didn't have my camera to take picture to show family how great & clean it is. Look forward to my next cruise if I can think of one. Read Less

The inside cabin was a bit small compared to other ships we have been on. They could never regulate the air conditioning even though they tried to fix it, they never could. The ship was always cold and most of the passengers were sick with sniffles and coughs and the Asian flu. Going from very hot humid weather to freezing cold was ridiculous. The crew and staff were great. The entertainment was mediocre. The food was good as was the service in the dining room. Our waiters were very friendly and went beyond to please us. The ports were excellent. We did most of our excursions off the ship as they were pricey on the ship. These were done prior to boarding. There could have been more activities. The ones offered were okay. The areas where some of the shows were held were small and did not hold very many people. This needs to be planned out better so that more people can attend the entertainment. Read Less

This cruise marked a milestone birthday for my wife, as well as her retirement (you should be able to figure out the birthday!) after almost five decades as a Nurse, the last 25 of those as a Nursing Professor. We thought the full transit would be interesting after two partials on the Coral and Sea Princess some years ago. We also liked the new-for-us ports on the West Coast. We had read many comments from former Island fans about the changes on the ship but since we never sailed upon her, we were open-minded. We had, as noted above, sailed on the sister ship, Coral. Alas, the reports are pretty accurate. The Island underwent a dreadful hacking that radically altered the form of the great ship as well as affecting service (more on that later). We missed the rear lounge, which I remember as the Vista Lounge on the Coral although I believe the name was different on the Island. Also, the wrap-around promenade and exterior gym were victims of the brutal hack job. Besides that however, the cruise was very good - I'd assign 4-1/2 stars if I could, since a 90 is more appropriate than an 80 in my estimation. After sailing on the larger ships, the return to the (now) retro design of the smaller Island was welcome. We found the old-style Wheelhouse with the large dancefloor and ample seating cozy and clubby as intended. Why, oh why, did Princess destroy this great space on the Royal and Regal?? Then again, why did they accept the flawed recommendations of a moron in altering the island??! Embarkation was in the massive ship yard at San Pedro and was painfully slow for some reason once we were through the check-in. Once onboard we decamped to our mini on Baja forward. We eventually figured out the TV and wondered why they haven't upgraded to the excellent on-demand system found on the Royal/Regal - a minor issue overall. Is it me or did the Muster grow by 2x since my last cruise in Dec 2105? After our regular routine unpacking, mustering, and exploring, we headed for our Anytime Dining and the adventure began. Frankly, the Anytime Dining on our cruise was hopelessly broken through out the cruise. A long line at 6:45pm (we like a 7pm seating) was greeted my a much-harried young woman put out by the incompetent DR hierarchy to single-handedly fend off the scores of very frustrated would-be diners. She offered a suggestion to return at 7:45pm - no beepers were offered, curiously. Sadly, the next night, a formal evening, was a repeat of the first. I shared my concerns with Neville, the Maitre d'Hotel only to be quickly rebuffed due to his imminent and apparently more important duties as chief champagne pourer at the waterfall. Unamused, I checked in at the Pursor's desk as to whether Anytime Dining was still an option. The polite, cheerful chap at the Pursor's shared my concern and immediately called the DR to inquire why they weren't offering beepers. Try as he may, I never did find out why the beepers were not in place, but this time we were shooed upstairs to the Provance DR (fixed) for our now-standard 7:45pm sitting. Once there, we were seated at a two-top as requested, napkin in place on our laps and menu in hands. Several minutes later, the Captain of this disaster came over and moved us again!! Apparently we were seated at someone's regular table! By now, I was fuming! Once resettled, we met our waiter and asst, the wonderful calming and very competent Luis and Bene. Noticing our contentment throughout their excellent service, the Captain then offered us that table each night - but at...you guessed it, 7:45pm. Sufficiently lubricated by now, I agreed and the good part of the cruise began in earnest. Since I'm in the DR, I'll add that all of our dinners were very good to excellent. Yes, menus have changed and some nights it's not readily apparent what the best dish may be. But if you take the time to read the whole menu - and have a waiter like Luis who nightly provided us with his learned selections - you'll do OK, as long as you have like food. We heard from some that they only liked one or two things to which I would suggest anymore cruises. Where do some people eat anyway? On the Island we had expert service, a true fine dining experience, and well-prepared if not exotic dishes. We were very pleased and we eat very, very well at home thanks to my incredible spouse! We brought the wine card (Gold 12) and ultimately saved about $125 off the regular single bottle price. Again, we were very satisfied with the offerings on the wine list, a favoring a very nice Sancerre, a Chablis, A nice Oregon Pinot Gris, the wonderful Embrouix Spanish blend, and one excellent - highly recommend - Barolo (make that two), among others. We also liked the frequent Happy Hours held daily and found these events a lot of fun. Princess offers raffle tickets at their Happy Hours and draws on the last day for three excellent bottles of wine (3 winners). At our most frequent HH, the excellent singer/guitarist Danny Rembadi held court most evenings, this at the Bayou Bar. Danny was the consummate performer, an accomplished musician in classical and flamenco guitar, but really a one-man party band with his vast repertoire of pop, sea shantys, vintage folk, Irish music, and loving covers of John Denver (hey, don't knock it - he killed with JD's songs). Danny was our star for this cruise. Other musical groups included the very good Party band Opus and the Wheelhouse band, Gemstone, an interesting Latin-tinged quartet that included an excellent female drummer. Jim Long held court on the Grand Piano at Crooners, although we rarely spent time there (our loss). The shops were all very nice and we found no hard selling through out the cruise. Shout out to the lovely Joanne at the Calypso! The Production shows were highlighted by the excellent Encore featuring the incredible soprano Jennifer Fair for at least the first few nights - don't miss her if you have the chance. Other notable new show for us was the On the Bayou production - very good! The Piano Man may be tiring and seemed to be considerably trimmed down. Overall, fantastic talent from the singers and dancers and excellent ship's orchestra led by Gordon on sax. Speaking of Gordon, he led a terrific presentation on model trains one day that turned out to be a highlight, simply due to Gordon's ebullient personality! Ports included Puerto Vallarta, Huatulco, San Juan del Sur, Puntarenus, Canal Day, Cartegena and our personal favorite, Aruba. We took the ship's tour in Puerao Vallarta - excellent tour to La Caletas - highly recommend!! - in Huatulco to the Las Brisas resort - good - and Cartegena with the Old City walking tour, good as well with reservations about the relentless onslaught of street vendors. In Aruba we cabbed over to Eagle Beach for a day of powder white sand, crystal clear Caribbean ocean water, and a nice light lunch at the Tulip. Sea days were wonderful affairs due to one of the very best aspects of this cruise - NO KIDS UNDER 17 - NONE! A real rarity according to crew and consist alike. This meant no chair hogging, no half-eaten pizza all over the deck, no dubious water quality in the pools, open hot tubs, and a very polite and congenial adult experience - kind of like the brochures without the models. Oh, and another bonus: they opened up the Teen Zone to us to play Skee-Ball, Air Hockey, Wii, and Fussball - all under the amused watchful eyes of the young staffers. We preferred the relative peacefulness of the Lotus Pool to the outside pool. Disembarkation was smooth - out by 9:15, in the car and on the road by 9:45am (FL residents). Would I travel on the Island again? Yes, but I'd rather look for the Coral which is still in it's original state. Our next cruise will be on the aforementioned Regal, and then the Royal but we loved the old-style ship layout with the large balcony and original Wheelhouse configuration. We are very happy with Princess and love our perks as Elite members. Read Less

If you like to drink in ur vacations buy the all you can drink package. "It is absolutely worth it" Simple math most drink are about 9 - 12 dollars and if you have 6 drinks at day which is very easy it pays for it self. Myself within 3 days I had drink all that I would've paid if I didn't pay for the package. When flying from out of town get the airport to ship transfer is so nice because you give your lougage to the driver and you don't have to wo about it until you get to your cabin. In Puerto Vallarta if you are adventurous do the zip line you will never regret it. If you are more relax do las caletas this private beach is the best ones in a life time opportunity "unless you like to cruise a lot like us....." And don't forget to tip the people that make your experience awesome they deserve it!!!!!!! Read Less
