My husband and I booked a cruise on the Ruby Princess to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We booked a suite R402. The room was lovely and spacious, although it could have been refurbished a little because of the wear and tear, but we were still pleased. We arrived on the ship in Los Angeles and proceeded to purchase the all inclusive beverage package. We then went to the buffet. We went back to our room to freshen up and enjoyed the evening in the casino. The following day we celebrated our anniversary and had purchased a dinner for 2 at the Crown Grill. We had also been notified that our travel agency purchased a meal for the 2 of us at the same location. We were thrilled, then our meal arrived. I ordered a filet, medium rare. The filet was dry and overcooked. I did not say anything because I did not want to spoil the evening. We decided to give the Crown Grill another try the next evening. I ordered the rib eye steak.....same condition as the night before. By that time we decided we would not dine in that location for the rest of our cruise. We met many people while celebrating and exchanged some very interesting stories. On the 3rd evening we dined at Di Vinces'. My meal was pleasant, but my husband ordered the surf and turf that was listed on the menu under the Crown Grill. His steak was prepared as ordered, but the lobster tails were burnt. When we retired for the evening, we had reported that the drain in our shower was clogged to our room steward. The next afternoon the room steward had inquired if our drain was clear and I informed him it was not. I reported it myself to guest services. The drain was cleared and the ship offered us a credit for our inconvenience which we accepted. We decided to try the buffet. It appeared that the selection of food was the same, but the chefs had just switched the kinds of pastas but not the sauces. We heard numerous people around us complaining of the selection as well. One evening I requested that my husband go to deck 5 to select a dessert for me. He came back to the room empty handed and said that there were 3 employees behind the counter chatting away while my husband and a few others were waiting to be served. My husband decided not to wait until the employees finished their personal conversations and came back up to our room. I spent a lot of time at the Roulette table and did quite well at the end of the cruise. There was an Asian female bartender working there on one of the nights and she was not very friendly or pleasant. I feel that when people book a cruise, they look forward to having a relaxing time and be treated with respect. Maybe she was having a bad day or perhaps, did not like her job, but whatever the reason, she had to be trained on basic customer service. I have cruised a total of 10 times, six with the Princess and my experience was not what I had expected. We ran into some bad weather going home and the ride was pretty bumpy. I realize that the cruise line does not have control of the weather, but they do have control over the other issues I have mentioned. In the past I have always raved to anyone who wanted to know what cruising was like, unfortunately my 40th wedding anniversary cruise will not be one that I intend to rave about. Read Less

My husband and I are in our early and mid thirties and we travel often, however this was our first and probably our last cruise for a very long time. We chose this cruise based on the ports of call which were fabulous with the exception being Trinidad. Entertainment: The average age on this cruise was around 80 years old and we found the entertainment was geared towards this age group. The majority of the nightly entertainment was around sing alongs and karaoke. We saw a couple of their shows and they were ok but nothing amazing. It would have been nice to have a variety of entertainment options for all age groups, and no we are not into partying or anything like that (we are not the carnival type). It just would have been nice to have something to go to after 9pm that was no sing along. The ship was pretty much dead after 10:30/11pm. The day time activities were also lacking, one day there was a paper plane flying contest and a watercolor contest. I am an artist and was pretty excited for the watercolor contest, however there were only 6 easles and far too many people wanting to join in. The staff also wouldn’t let you mix colors or anything like that so I opted out. We tried to sign up for steel drum lessons but couldn’t get tickets (they only offer sign up on one day at the beginning of the cruise). The other craft activities could only accommodate 24 people and we were 30th in line so no luck there either. It would have been nice to see some language classes or even a towel folding class. SONETHING would have been better that nothing. Bathrooms: there are not enough bathrooms around the pool deck or even around the ship for that matter. On the pool deck there was always a line in the ladies room, and usually one toilet was out of service. Inside the ship there was usually a line for the ladies room in the evenings. It was frustrating. There was also a sewage smell in the middle elevators and on some floors. I’m a nurse and am use to this smell and it was even too much for me to handle at times. Pools: pools were fine, but were crowded on sea days. Food: the food in the dining room was usually ok, but we had 4 meals out of 14 that were not good at all. I ordered fish one evening and it was hard and I couldn’t cut it. I guess I had higher expectations. The buffet was hugely disappointing and lacked variety. The food was often hard as a rock and you couldn’t eat it. There also was not much to choose from. I was hoping for a made to order crepe station at breakfast but there wasn’t any. There were no made to order stations that you would normally see at a buffet. The exception being at steamers for lunch but they ran out of food by 12:30. Planks was not great and even though it is only a $12 cover charge out meal by the end cost $50 usd with a gratuity. Crown Grill was really good, we ate there twice. It seems like the food that is an up charge is much better than what is offered in the dining room and buffet. Drinks: we had the soda and more drink package and I’m happy we went with that option as there wasn’t much to drink that was “free” otherwise. The coffee bar at cones and the international cafe were decent depending on who your server was. Sometimes it was terrible. Room: we had a balcony which was nice. No real complaints here as it was what we had expected. Staff: were amazing and they work really hard to make sure you have everything you need. Excursions: we booked two excursions with Princess and after our one excursion we just didn’t bother going on the second one. I would never book an excursion with the ship again, the value isn’t there. Also be aware of all day excursions that offer a lunch as some passengers were shocked when they were brought back to the ship to at lunch that was supposed to be included. Overall: I’m not sure if cruising is for us after this experience, but we are happy we were able to see the islands. We usually travel to resorts or on our own. We have travelled to Secrets, Couples, Excellence, and Sandals resorts. I would not recommend this cruise to anyone under 75! If we do go on a cruise again we will not go with Princess. Read Less

Any time dining is far from any time. Had to wait 30 mins even with a reservation, why even offer any time if there is none. Woman at the door of Concertos was extremely rude. Food was not what you would expect from a flagship of Princesses fleet stake was over done and un-edible. Menus were very limited every day of the cruise. Ended up using the buffet which had a better selection of food and better quality of product. Comedian Scott Wyler was the best part of the cruise very funny. The death of two passengers although not the cruise lines fault definitely had us concerned for our safety especially when there was no communication from the bridge that the person who caused the overboard death was caught or removed from the ship. Room steward was very attentive. Staff with the exception of the women at the door of Concertos were friendly. It seems like Princess is catering to an elderly crowd and forgetting the younger passengers and their children's needs. I have cruised on Princess ships since 1975 and this was by far the worst cruise and not up to Princesses standards. There seemed to be a problem with the air conditioning with a lot of warm spots especially the elevators. Not sure if this was from the cruise Wi-Fi but I came home to my Netflix account being hacked. Read Less

We were so excited for this cruise. A number of people had told us that Princess had great service and fantastic food. We were excited for SHARE and other specialty restaurants. I anticipated days full of exercise classes and crafts, and nights of luxurious dinners and dancing the night away. Alas, it didn't live up to expectations. Embarkation took forever - just a ton of waiting and standing around in a too crowded space. Ship activities were a disappointment - most were based around selling us things; a raffle in a jewelry store is not exactly what I had in mind. There were very few exercise classes, and the ones they did have came with a hefty fee - TRX was $20 per session. It turned out, that while we had anticipated that most things on the cruise other than booze would be included, almost everything came at an extra charge. Even room service pizza came with a fee. Food was another area of disappointment. In the dining rooms, servers were not trained properly in how to serve, resulting in an awkward and clunky experience. Room service had tons of rules - you could only get iced tea in an 8 ounce glass, nothing larger or a pitcher (though you could get a carafe of coffee). The food itself was mediocre - the quality was not at all what I expected. Very little use of spices, and traditional ethic dishes such as lamb shawarma in the dining room were laughable parodies of the real thing. But specialty dining was even worse. Salty Dog featured a surly hostess and staff who didn't know the menu at all. The Ernesto burger, which supposedly came with kimchi and pork belly, was actually topped with sad wilted cabbage and undercooked bacon. But SHARE took the prize for a bad dining experience. Curtis Stone should be ashamed that this place is attached to his name. The space was really lovely, very modern and open. But the food was truly terrible. The burrata was inedible, and my salad course was literally grocery store bagged salad mix spilled sloppily into a bowl (greens were falling out one side of the bowl). While the scallops were nothing to write home about, they were the highlight of the meal, as they were followed by an unevenly cooked steak that was so lacking in flavor I did a double take when I bit into it. The dessert course featured ice cream so poorly prepared and stored that it was full of ice - vanilla ice cream shouldn't crunch. So that too was left uneaten. I'm still frustrated that we paid $58 to eat there. On the ship, everywhere we turned there was someone trying to sell us something. Most days, the Piazza looked like a swap meet with tables of knockoff jewelry and t-shirts in every hall. And that continued when we left the ship - in Cabo and Mazatlan you were stopped every few moments by someone wanting to sell you cigars or crafts. We didn't notice the same in Puerta Vallarta, as we did an all day excursion that left yards from where the ship was docked. We did really enjoy our excursions. In Cabo, we took a luxury sunset sail on a gorgeous 50 foot boat, complete with a light meal and drinks. And in PV, we did the Sea Safari, a 7 hour adventure with a speedboat, horseback riding, swimming in a waterfall, snorkeling, and a barbecue on a private beach. Those were the moments we wished comprised the whole trip. Disembarkation was a mess - too many people not knowing where to go, and the groups were too big to fit in the designated spaces. It really ended the cruise on a sour note, although customs and immigration once we left the ship was a smooth and easy process. We would definitely not go on this, or probably any Princess cruise ever again. Read Less

I start this review as a seasoned cruiser. 9 to be exact.Carnival and Royal Caribbean. First cruise on Princess. Never again. The ship is beautiful. Well maintained and clean. The crew (for the most part) was kind, helpful and caring. But thats it. We only had 2 hot meals and that was in the specialty restaurants. The buffet food was always, with out exception cool at best. Same with the dining rooms. The coffee was excellent tasting , but I could count on one hand how many HOT cups I had. it was barely warm enough to drink. The food quality was great! and a lot of choices. But it was always cold. The toast felt like it was made hours before hand and the butter was always frozen. You had to wait for it to thaw to use it. Even the hot soups were lukewarm. You never had to worry about getting burned. Lobster night was great. Until you got the food. Cold lobster is not my favorite. I paid extra for an upgrade to a "Mini-Suite" . Compared to Carnival and Royal, the regular balcony rooms were bigger than my "Mini-Suite" They put a full size table on the small balcony. We had to move it to even look over the railing. With the 2 chairs, foot stool and full size table you couldnt move on the balcony. I got a Mini-suite on Carnival once so I know what to expect from a suite. This a NOT a suite. Oh, and the toilet smelled like a port-a-pottie. Although very clean, it was a terrible smell every time you lift the seat. And it wasnt just the room. It was the public bathrooms also. It had to be the water. The theater was very small. Just over 600 seats. There are 3000 people on board. We got there at 7pm for an 8pm show and almost didnt get seats. One single floor for the theater. And if you didnt carry around the itinerary they gave you in your room, you would have no way of knowing what was going on around the ship. No announcements, no signs posted, No additional itineraries anywhere around the ship. We missed so much because we were never informed of what was going on. And everything is not even listed in the itinerary. We tendered 2 ports. What a nightmare. They used lifeboats. I've tendered many many ports and they always had dedicated tenders. I guess I will need to check on this next time before booking a cruise with tender ports. In closing, If I was never on a cruise before, I probably would not know the difference. But if you have ever cruised Carnival or Royal Caribbean before, DO NOT take Princess. They don't measure up. Read Less

We saved up quite a while for this dream vacation of a lifetime on Princess Cruise Lines. We were very disappointed in our balcony stateroom and even more disappointed in the lack of response from Princess Cruise Limes customer service and passenger services. When booking our cruise and choosing our balcony stateroom, we selected a top floor (Lido 15th floor) balcony room at the front of the ship. When selecting our room, you select the room you are requesting and a picture pops up of what the room looks like. It showed a typical room with a balcony with the blue tinted plexiglass wall on the balcony. When we arrived on board the ship and went to our room, we discovered that it did not have the transparent plexiglass wall on the balcony, but it had a white painted metal wall instead. Our dreams of waking up in the morning with the curtains open and being able to see the ocean from our bed were dashed. Having coffee out on the balcony in the morning sitting in the chairs watching the ocean was also impossible. Having a romantic dinner catered out to our private balcony as they advertised? Not an option unless you think sitting in a metal box is romantic. There are 2 balcony rooms with this metal box configuration out of the 900 balcony rooms that are on the Emerald. These 2 rooms (L201 and L202) cost just the same as the others in their category, but they should be highly discounted due to their lack of visibility. There should be some kind of designation or remark in the description of these 2 rooms when you are choosing state rooms. We met the couple that was in L202 during dinner one night, and they were just as disappointed as we were in our balcony room. They have cruised 56 times and this was their first Princess cruise, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Let me just say that they were NOT impressed with Princess. They also complained to passenger services and customer care and they at least got a phone call and a letter. Neither one of us would have chosen the balcony room that we did if we had known that there was little visibility from our balconies. We immediately went to passenger services to complain about our room/balcony. Passenger services promised that we would receive a letter delivered to our stateroom no later than the following night. Well, the cruise was over yesterday, and we are still waiting! On the 3rd day of the cruise, I used some of my Internet minutes on board and emailed corporate customer care. I got an automated message verifying my letter and said that they would respond to complaints in the order that they were received. It has been 28 days, and I am still waiting. We have earned Platinum status with Princess and have not had issues on the 10 previous cruises. Apparently Princess does not believe in customer service or customer loyalty. We also had another issue with Passenger services. My wife forgot to take her watch off when getting into the pool and set it on the bench at the side of the pool when she got in. Five minutes after getting out of the pool, she remembered her watch on the bench, but someone had already picked it up and taken it to passenger services. My wife went to passenger services to retrieve her watch within 30 minutes. Passenger services said that they didn't have the watch. Over the next several hours, she called passenger services 2 times about the watch, and was told that they did not have the watch. Finally after finding the woman who turned in the watch and having her come with my wife to passenger services to get her watch back.....it magically appeared. The watch had been there all along and much stress could have been avoided if they were doing their job. Not sure what happened, but it was the same passenger services person that was involved with this fiasco as well. Other than these 2 issues, we had a good cruise. The room/balcony was quite the downer, but we made the best of it. We had fabulous dinners with excellent staff and service in the Michelangelo dining room every night. Francesco the head waiter was the best by far that we have ever had. Food was great but the menus were totally out of date. Recommended wines in the menu were not available, and some items were not available. We were told that they were waiting to print new menus. The horizon court was typical buffet food. More on quantity rather on quality. I think that their food quality has gone down hill a little in the last year or so. Some of the quality of the food in the dining room was also not up to previous cruises. Things like the quality of the beef cuts of meat and the size and quality of the lobster were not up to par. One thing that Princess has changed that I believe really cost them a bunch of profit was the discontinuing with happy hour in the lounges. On previous cruises, during happy hour the lounges were packed with standing room only. Now you can rarely find anyone in the lounges unless there is an exciting entertainment venue, and hardly anyone is ordering drinks. I bet that the liquor profit for Princess is WAY down due to this decision. The entertainment in the theatre was pretty good, with some entertainers that we have seen on prior cruises. Our entertainment director, Alexander, and his staff were amazing. Our room steward Frankie was great. Couldn't have asked for anything more from him. Our room was always spotless and all needs were eagerly met. Hawaiian islands were great as always. THe south pacific islands were amazing. Bora Bora is as beautiful as the pictures in the magazines make it look. Moorea was too. Samoa islands were beautiful. We were a little disappointed with Tahiti as the port city was just like any other big city. Should have done an excursion and got out of the city. Probably will not do this long of a cruise again and not with Princess. We had been happy with Princess cruise lines up to now and have earned platinum status. We were excited to earn Elite status and cruise with Princess exclusively. We now are going to try some other cruise lines after the lack of customer service that Princess gave us this last cruise. My husband and I picked this cruise for our honeymoon. We booked through vacation club Mariott as we are owners. This was our first cruise. The booking process went smoothly, however the online process was extremely confusing, even though we are both tech savvy. The was much confusion on the passport situation as well. My husband’s passport met the criteria all the way up until the week before we were to leave. We were unable to complete anything online because it stated that his passport is expired, even though it didn’t expire until 5 months and 20 days after our return. Princess stated we needed passports good for 6 months after return. However when initially put through, this was fine. After hours of phone calls, we were finally given the ok, however when checking in, we had to got though the whole process all over again. In the mean time, they lost our room keys. After finally boarded, we were not told where to go. We were given a map and they sent us on our way. Mind you, this was our first cruise. We had no idea what to do or where to go. When we finally found our room, we were told we needed our safety talk in the casino area. Again, we had to wander around to find it. Here I thought we would be introduced to the boat, told how everything works, etc, but this was not the case. They showed us how to put a life jacket on and sent us away. We were so extremely disappointed with the start. Then we noticed our floor was leaking and required maintenance nearly everyday. Our bedroom was dingy, with dirty cloth headboards and a smell of mold. There was a glass left in the closet when we arrived in our room. There was also mold all along the tile in the bathroom. Next, the hot tubs NEVER worked. The saunas only worked if you requested the spa to turn it on. The food was good but only in the dining room. The food in the buffet was clearly cafeteria food, except cold. The best part of our cruise was sitting at the table with fellow cruisers. If it wasn’t for them, we would not know the ins and outs of cruising. Such as the coffee is free in the Buffett and dining room, but expect to pay over a dollar for a regular coffee anywhere else. It was absolutely ridiculous. The shows repeated every 3rd day and they were not entertaining at all. Lastly, we were told there would be two formal days. We had one; plus the dress code policy was not adhered to at all. Our stateroom steward, Emile was phenomenal however. He always came in and tidied up the room; he also always brought us ice which we requested on the first day. We did not book any excursions through princess and I am so glad we didn’t. They were way overpriced and extremely full. One last plus, was our captain. He was extremely entertaining with his talks and nautical trivia. Read Less

My wife gave us this cruise for my 50th Birthday. Unfortunately it was the worst cruise we have ever been on. The food was awful at The steak house and buffet. The staff didn’t know what was going on regarding several issues. The bed was too soft. Rules not followed by staff not to mention the staff did not seem happy to be there in many places on the ship. The Italian restaurant and wait staff was excellent along with the Lotus Spa and the treatment staff. We spoke with several other passengers that were unhappy also including our friends that we paid for their way on board to help us celebrate. We go on a cruise to be pampered but that sure didn’t happen on this cruise. It was my first and last Princess Line cruise. The ship was supposedly updated or refurbished November 2017 but is sure didn’t look like it. Read Less

Entertainment and Activities: Boring Sea Days. Limited entertainments and activities on the cruise. Don't take this ship in Fall/Winter time, as the entire deck is dead and swimming pool and jacuzzi water too cold to use. Night shows are not interesting. The singers were mediocre. The comedian was not funny (we had to leave his 2nd show 10 minutes after the show started cuz his jokes were not funny at all. The weak laugh from some audiences was more like fake laugh). This is a rare experience where we ended up watching movies in our stateroom (watched 3 movies in a 7 days cruise) b/c there's not much activities to do on the ship, and we could have just stayed home to do that. FOOD: It's okay but not amazing. The dining and buffet met the standards on a cruise ship for the price. SHORE EXCURSIONS: DO NOT purchase the shore excursion from the cruise b/c the markup is soooooo high. We paid $109 each for an shore excursion which includes a 20-min bus ride to two historical sites with self-guided tour, which we later found out the ticket price to the two sites only cost $29. The bus ride was not worth $80 difference. It was a total rip-off! Read Less

We selected this cruise as it took us to one of our bucket list destinations. As we have both always enjoyed our Princess Cruises, it was the only cruise line we considered. Boy, are we sorry we did. This was the most disappointing cruise we’ve ever been on. From the lousy service in the specialty dining room, to the lack of visible service at the poolside decks and in the buffet, we were sorry this was where we decided to spend our vacation time and money. The wait staff was unfriendly and extremely slow, where it was easier to get up and get things we needed (like utensils and drinks) ourselves than try to make eye contact with anyone. A big Pet Peeve was being forced to yield to their right of way when crossing paths in aisles and walkways. I am all about being courteous and helping others, but when someone carrying a pitcher of water doesn’t step aside while I’m precariously balancing a plate, drink and utensils, I get agitated. The lack of being able to communicate verbally was frustrating as well at the customer service desk. So Much so, that I finally gave up and walked Away. Read Less

The food is uninspired. With a small number of offerings at the Horizon Buffet that changed only slightly from day to day. Food from venue to venue tasted pretty much the same. Except for one dinner at the Crab Shack. That was marvelous. And one dinner at Sabatini's. Sabatini's was excellent with superb attention and care from the waiter. The Salty Dog... pass on that. The worst hamburger at sea. Ditto with the pizza. And the coffee? You could see through it most days. Sat down on a chair in Michelangelos dining room, the first night, which immediately broke. The ship overall, leans to the opulent. But the ship feels cramped, and closed in. To gain access to the outer decks was often a chicane of elevators, hallways and stairs. More so, than any other ship we have cruised on. The staff, mostly, appeared robotic. Not that there weren't clear exceptions to this. Our cabin Steward was superb with an engaging personality. A couple of specialty dining occasions offered excellent table service. One in particular at Sabatini's was the epitome of professional, and attentive waiting. We also received timely assistance from one of the officers and plenty of help with the bags on and off the boat.. Music in the atrium was too loud and encouraged us to avoid that section of the ship. Forget about the internet. IMPOSSIBLY slow. Click...wait 10 seconds, Click....wait 10 more seconds. AND EXPENSIVE. Strangely, a few days after our great experience with a waiter in Sabatini's, I found that waiter in regular Princess blue and khaki, busing tables at the pool. The shore excursions were nothing to rave about. Mostly, just ok. But, one excursion at Kotor completely fell apart. The excursion guide lost control of the tour. Leaving two tourists behind at the end of the first half of the tour. Half the tourists went ahead of the guide, while others were at public washrooms, after the guide took us to a public washroom that was closed, and she had to backtrack to another washroom that we had past on our way. She didn't appear to know the history of the port that well. Eventually, we bailed and went back to the bus to await the return of the tourists. Princess deserves credit for offering credit for a significant portion of this tour. The tour to the statue of David in Florence went off as planned and access to the museum was reasonably quick. In spite of it all, we made it a great time. Read Less

Lots of wasted time on ship, Very short time in most of the ports. Ship needs to be more considerate of passengers needs and less on ships schedule. Would be my last consideration for future cruises. First dinner had to wait in a line for a table in a half empty dinning room supposed to accommodate " Anytime Dinning". Orders food before everyone around us and had to complain to head waiter to find out why everyone else that ordered after us was already having desert and we where still waiting for our dinner. Another morning of a day on ship went up to deck 15 to breakfast and ran into only one open section at 10:00am with a line of people waiting to eat. You would figure on a day with no place to be knowing that passengers would probable sleep in the ship would keep more options open. Zero entertainment after 10:00 pm. Thank you From Ron and the crew. We paid 3800 plus airfare for this cruise. Not worth the price, too many ala cartes. Soda for a week 50 a day per person! A whopping 700 for a week! It is true the price was 2 per can and fair. However, anyone who helps you is entitled to a gratuity. Which makes the 20 you spent on sodas 33 with gratuity. Alcohol 59 per day, I purchased 15 coffees for the week 31. Most people don't mind tipping. We expect to be charged some way or how. There is also expected good service for giving tips ( Too Insure Prompt Service). If on a cruise in the US, communication with staff should not be an issue. That is bad service. When in another country we understand having to adjust. I asked for directions, did not understand. I asked for a milder, lighter, roast. The response dark roast? I could go on but why? Our room was tiny and had bunk beds. Why I cannot say. We spent a week in a phone booth. Constant noise, running water as if my room was the last stop drain area. Seriously every 8 seconds you heard it. Ok, let's end this. I could write a book. Horrible room for 2000, much less 3800. Poor to arrogant service. Pushing products, foot inserts, makeup, anti-aging etc may be the norm, not something we like. Alaska is great! We advise to see it without Princess! Read Less

Chose this cruise line for reviews. This ship is older so some wear and tear expected. Had a mini-suite that had a strong odor of mold, bed was well used and lumpy with visible deformations in the mattress. Club Class dining was very good, staff was excellent. The pizza was tasteless at other cafe, and ice cream substance was horrible. Buffet was mediocre at best. Most activities on board were to encourage you to buy their priceless baubles. It felt like we were living in an infomercial. While I expect some of this, this cruise line is all about the sales. Princess claims that they will make this a once in a lifetime experience. I presumed this meant it would be a good experience, to the contrary, I think they mean that after one cruise you will never use Princess again. The staff and Captain were reluctant to provide information on where disembarkation would occur, where lines should form. It was a big secret, unlike other cruises I have experienced. The staff then complained about where the lines organically formed and meandered. Also, someone had a "medical emergency" on board that required a 7 plus hour detour causing a complete loss of any excursions in Juneau. Not sure what kind of emergency requires such detour, but yet doesn't merit helicopter to fly to medical facility. Seas were not that rough. Captain then repeatedly lied about still making port on time, only releasing that we would not about an hour before we were due in. Notice would have been nice to cancel excursions. When we reached excursion company via phone, they stated they had known the night before. Captain lied. On other cruises such issues, even when weather related, were offset by some renumeration to the passengers such as credit to their account. Not with the money hungry folks at Princess. Listened to Ms. Texas blather on about buying their coupon book (don't do it), or being a VIP shopper...worthless, same coupons taped to display shelves in stores in port. If other wish to cruise with this company, don't buy a thing until the last full day of the cruise. Those priceless baubles are not worth the opening price, and probably not the finishing price either. The "Love Boat" company is now the "Lust Boat", and they are after your money...not the way to see Alaska! Read Less

My wife and I just returned today from our 10-day Alaska cruise round trip from San Francisco on the Grand Princess. We live near San Francisco and it was really convenient for us to get to the ship. Once through the long line of vehicles trying to drop off passengers at Pier 27 (allow plenty of extra drive time) the embarkation process was smooth and fast. The Princess employees working check in were great. Once aboard the ship the customer service experience changed. Heads were down and very little eye contact from the crew members. We went directly to our mini suite on the Dolphin deck (Deck 9) which was ready for our arrival. The suite looked worn and tired, with stains on the sofa bed and nicks in the furniture. We were greeted after a few minutes by our cabin steward. He was friendly but just not overly so. He brought us a couple glasses of champagne because we were celebrating our anniversary. Maybe Princess wants their crew to be a bit distant, but it really felt like the ship was understaffed. There were so many times we were passed by a crew member and not even acknowledged. We requested a table for 2 during late seating dinner. We were surprised to be at a table for 6 in the very back corner of the Botticelli Dining Room. We lucked out and had a very nice group of dining companions, but we weren’t informed of our dining request not being met. The waiter for our table was a fast talker and didn’t really connect with anyone at the table. We only saw our bus boy a couple of times through dinner. The food wasn’t good, from lobster that tasted like rubber to beef Wellington that required a chain saw to cut. One night we went to the Crown Grill and it was probably the worst steaks my wife and I have ever had. The highlight of our meals was the French Onion Soup at the Crown Grill and the cheeseburgers they serve by the pool. Also, take note if you sign up for late seating dining, you won’t have enough time to get to the evening show in the Princess Theater. You may make it to the theater but won’t find a seat. We couldn’t get to any shows at night. A big miss on their scheduling. We really enjoyed all the excursions we arranged through Princess. They were well organized and led by some great 3rd party guides. When in Haines we’d recommend the Wilderness River Boat tour on the Chilkat River. Cheryl our bus driver and CP the boat driver were fantastic. The Haines experience really made up for standing in the tender boat line in Ketchikan the day before for almost 3 hours in the blazing sun. We had to wait for two cruise ships to depart before the tender boats could start taking the passengers back over to the Grand Princess even though we were told to be back on ship by 2:00 PM. We didn’t get back onboard until nearly 4:00 PM. Once everyone was back onboard the Captain apologized for the experience and offered everyone a free beverage (up to $9.95). This was a horrible experience and it really felt like the crew of the Grand Princess didn’t care. Even after waiting all that time to get back to the ship not even a member of the senior crew was there to greet passengers as we came back onboard, just the unfriendly security staff. We also were hoping to get up close to a glacier in Tracy Arm Fjord but unfortunately the ship had to turn around due to ice conditions. It looked like we should have been able to continue but I’m not a navigator. Luckily I had a telephoto lens that was able to get a picture of the glacier as they turned the ship around. The schedule for arrival in Tracy Fjord said 6:00 AM on the Princess Patter but we arrived just after 5:00 AM. I opened our balcony door and could hear the Naturalist talking over the PA but is was earlier than they published. Another big miss and dissappointment. We will probably go with another cruise line unless Princess does something to demonstrate how important our business is to them. It’s also time for the Grand Princess to be retired. Read Less

We chose this cruise for our honeymoon after researching ships due to it being more for retired older people because we did not want alot of children on board, and we got what we wanted, there were very few children the first week and quite a lot of teens on the second week. However, the food was not only tasteless but old, meaning that the desserts were premade and left out to dry out the mousse was dry and cracked etc. We ate at Sabatinis the food had very little taste and portions were small, the crown grill steaks were delicious but everything else was just gross, The Plank barbeque had no taste, small portions and the sides and appetizers were tasteless and did not really go with barbeque. The only thing we ate on board that we enjoyed was the pizza and hamburgers and fries and after 2 weeks i wont be eating pizza any time soon. Buffet food was disappointing everytime, what is supposed to be cold was too warm and hot food was barely room temp. The same things were served over and over. Nothing had any flavor. Unfortunately we threw away alot of food just tasting different stuff trying to find something we liked. We did not see any shows because we didnt care to but I heard the comedians were great. Getting on and off the ship was pretty smooth but they lost my luggage and just so you know you dont have to give your luggage to the porters, you are guided through in such a way that we thought we had to, but you dont. If I had known that I wouldnt have lost my bag which they eventually got to me around 10 pm the first day. Showers are small, very small. The staff was fabulous though, our room steward Pablo was very nice and attentive but no towel animals, and we had to ask for the robes that were supposed to be in there already because we requested one prior to cruise on the personalizer. No fault of Princess but the cruise ports were soooooooooooo touristy, we were herded through so many gift shops that had the same items every where we went. Princess caye was a beach and it was crowded and the food sucked. St Thomas we took an independant tour of the island and the guide just went on and on about how poor the area was, im not unsympathetic but I would like to know more about the island. St Maarten has a beautiful beach with great food thats as far as we went, and if someone tells you to shop for electronics there be warned most of it was higher than walmart prices. Grand cayman has beautiful beaches and we loved the submarine ride. Roatan we went to gumbalimba the park is pretty the monkeys are mean and the birds are huge. Belize we went cave tubing it was cool but our tubes were all tied together and I would have loved to spend more time exploring the park it was amazing. Cozumel was soooooooooo touristy but we went to the national park and went snorkeling it was the highlight of our excursions Read Less

The destinations were great, more time at Messina and Crete would have made this portion of the trip outstanding (i.e. 10 to 12 hours at these ports would be ideal). 14 out of the 17 days we smelled sewage at various times on various decks while at sea, the other days were in ports. Passenger should not see bubbled up paint or rust anywhere where passengers can access, especially near the Serenity and on the Promenade Decks. This Boat is only 13 Years old. People pay a lot of money to go on these cruises, but, there was a constant push to sell extras even after saying NO! Other Examples of just being cheap: Ice Cream - free, pay extra for the sprinkles. Hamburgers - free, but put cheese and bacon on it, pay extra. Pizza same thing. The Entertainment was Marginal, there cultural nights in Barcelona and Athens with the local dances were effectively meaningless. There was No explanation of what the dances being performed are, nor there significance, purpose, or meaning. Minimal variety of the entertainment Port and shore excursions were more than 2x's the cost of doing it yourselves. Do a little research before you go and save a lot of money, a little planning goes a long way. Some of the sights you see on the Princess Shore Excursions are Drive Bys. But they do seem to find time to stop to Shop. If word got around that someone had a couple decks of cards and chips for a Texas Hold'em game no one would use their electronic table. We chose this cruise lines because Princess was our honeymoon 15 years ago. I was very surprised with the food in the restaurant it was terrible! In the past the food was excellent and now the food was horrible! Also if you want to eat better you have to pay a restaurant on the ship. Also it was boring, they didn't even have music on. The room was a balcony room and it was very small. Total disappointment! Norweign was so much better I wont cruise with Princess again. The ship was beautiful but boring! More music is necessary! Caribbean music and more announcements of whats going on during the ship experiences! The pictures were very expensive and no lobster was given in the restaurant. That was always part of the restaurants menu. If you bring back the old ways Ill give Princess another try. For now I recommend not to travel Princess. Read Less

Embarkation and disembarkation were smooth and quick. But the food was horrible. In 7 days I never got a piece of seafood that wasn't overcooked, nor a piece of beef that wasn't tough. Lobster was inedible. Desserts were beautiful but not tasty (I was really looking forward to the ice cream because I'm addicted to it, but it was icy and full of crystals). Chocolate was all dark and bitter. And that was the main dining room. The Marketplace buffet was no better...just a bigger selection of bad. Even the upscale Crown Grill was awful. Neither my husband nor I could eat our ribeyes..so tough and full of gristle. We even had a green fly land on the food. Room was small and the toy shower was a joke. So was the entertainment in the princess theater except the last night. That was very good. The comic was also funny on one night. Some elevators didn't work and they had buckets sitting in dining areas to catch water from leaks. Thank goodness the bed and pillows were wonderful and comfortable. Other cruisers we talked to had some of the same opinions. Oh, the end of cruise sales were no sales. Very overpriced. It was next to impossible to get room or guest services on the phone. And when we did get room service they brought tea with either no sweeteners or nothing to stir with. Room steward was nice and helpful, but so short she couldn't reach the ceiling to clean the dirty vent in the bathroom, which my husband did himself so nothing would fall out of it on us. We did have a couple of good servers which we acknowledged personally. Read Less

This was supposed to be the cruise of a lifetime for me and my wife. It was our 30 year anniversary and we couldn't have been more exciting. We boarded in Yokahama Japan looking forward to our mini-suite, Queen bed and all the comforts of Princess Cruises. We arrived at our room D732 and excitedly entered only to be surprised by a room that looked much smaller than advertised with twin beds, no bathtub, 22inch TV screen facing beds! What happen to our Queen bed, bathtub and greeting Champaign, Fruit and Chocolate? I knew there was a mistake and promptly informed our stateroom attendant who promised to return with a supervisor, which didn't happen for over 2 hours. I finally when to the front desk to explain the.mistake, we booked a mini suite. We were told that they were very sorry but the ship was full. There was no way we were going to take a 23 day (anniversary) cruise sleeping in separate beds, no tub in a handicapped room! We ask if we could disembark, cancel the cruise, we we're told that it was too late and that they would I've us a.s.a.p. whatever that means! every day for the next week I went to the front desk hoping for Golden Princess help us. When they finally sent someone to our room, it was with the idea to put our 2 twin beds together. We would have been ok with that but we were told that it can't be done because the beds would block the balcony! So D732 is not a mini-suite not capable of queen bed configeration. So we prayed and waited.... We also noticed (after a couple days) that we were very cold. We realized that the balcony door was sliding open letting cold air in. We reported it right away. A fix it guy came but informed us that he could not fix it because they didn't have that needed parts. It took 2 weeks before the problem was (not fixed-term rigged) addressed. During that same time that we were cold, sleeping in different beds we noticed that the heater in the room did not work, which we reported right away. The response was to.give us ”extra” blankets until they could fix the problem... Which they did 12 days into a 23 sat cruise. So, you can imagine the anxiety, stress and depression we we're dealing with. On top of all that, my wife when to use the toilet and found it was not working. I had had enough and stormed to the front desk but this time there was a ton of people in line ahead of me complaining that there bathrooms weren't working. We were ask.to use the public bathrooms until they got it fixed. The ship is old and decapitated and should be dry docked for.good! .I talked with.many of the understaffed crew who down to the last one started that they are having more problems now with the ship than they ever have. Buyers beware: Anyway so back to D732. If you go right now to Princess Cruises .com and look up there state rooms, you can type the number of a room and pictures will come up to give you an idea of what the room looks like. When you type in D732 a picture of a gorgeous room comes up with a glowing duscription.... If you go a little further you will notice a ”more information” button. If you go here... several layers down you will find out that nothing previously started pertains to this room... Though they book it as a ”queen mini-suite” it is not. Princess should be ashamed of using these methods to deceive people. I can not even begin to describe all the troubles, hardships and suffering we dealt with in D732 but even the crew of this ship say that this room should not be used. Our 30-anniversary Golden Prencess cruise nightmare. I would not wish it on my enemies. I hope that no one has to go through this suffering for 23 days on any cruise but you have.been warned. Stay away from the Golden Princess it is an old ship. Read Less

We've sailed with Princess before and had a great, but this larger ship was disappointing. The food was mediocre in all dining rooms except the specialty restaurants, which charged $29/person... this was the food that we've come to expect on a cruise. The drinks were very expensive, and it seemed like Princess was trying to sell something all the time. The ship was crowded, dance floors difficult to get on, hard to see a show without going an hour early to sit and wait... we missed several because of this. They had good entertainment, but most of the shows were single person-show, that one would expect in the lounge... not the grand productions we had on other ships. The theater didn't hold enough people for everyone to see one of the shows each night, so many people just didn't get to see them. Same with the various ship activities... always full, no room left. Here's a ship full of seniors and they offer Zumba?! I would've thought they could've offered a yoga class or Tai Chi mid-morning (the only yoga was at 7:30am... hey, we're on vacation!) The room carpet was discolored and the furniture, drapes and bedding a bland color. Though, the service was exceptional. The shore excursions were very expensive, but the high point of the trip... if you picked the right one! We booked a 25 day cruise, but no one told us it was actually 2 cruises back-to-back, so most of the people got off mid-way through the trip, and a new bunch of passengers got on... it changed the whole dynamics of our cruise. When I 1st started looking for a cruise on-line, a Princess cruise planner called me... he was not helpful, when I called him with a question, he told me I could go on-line and find that for myself, 3 times! Then, when we were onboard we talked with people that paid far less for the same cruise... 1st timers, who also got upgraded! They said they felt they were "being hooked". We would not choose Princess again, unless it was a smaller ship... maybe. Read Less

It is going downhill very fast, the food is very predictable (always the same), the crew must have been new because they were out of sync most of the time. The food was cold and smothered in gravy. The elite lounge changed their drinks to fruity sweet stuff and jacked up their prices by $1.50 more per drink. The ship is looking very tired, needs a lot of tlc. They now have a sink at the buffet, no sanitizer, and less than 1/3 of the people take the time to wash their hands after using the bathroom then proceed to touch the food and eat while in line sometimes putting food back if they don't like the taste of it. As experienced Princess customers we looked forward to our Australian Cruise on the Sea Princess. On the positive side crewmembers were friendly, efficient and attentive to the passengers. However, The Sea Princess is a poorly designed vessel. Unlike other Princess ships the buffet dining venue is all the way forward at the topmost part of the ship making it more subject to ship motion, not the ideal situation when trying to eat. The lack of an elevator midship’s causes extensive walking to either the bow or the stern in order to get from the lower to the uppermost decks. Not the most considerate design considering the aging populace presently cruising. Again, unlike other Princess vessels, when configured for a double bed, the inside cabins are so poorly designed as to leave less than 6 inches between the bottom corner of one side of the bed and the closet which makes for tricky navigation if one wants to use the bathroom in the middle of the night without having to crawl over your bed partner. Also, unlike other Princess vessels, the free soft serve ice cream and pizza stations normally found on the Lido deck have been replaced by an ice cream for purchase concession (no more free ice cream on demand) while the pizza by the slice station has been replaced with a sit down “Café” pizza facility midship’s. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes half an hour to get seated at this “café” and then an additional half hour to get a pizza. Although the pizza itself remains free it is presented on a menu wherein many other choices are presented for a fee. In general, we found the food on this ship quite unremarkable although there are an increasing number of “specialty” restaurants costing additional fees. In fact, they have converted half the buffet dining venue to a specialty for fee restaurant. We certainly hope that this is not a portend of things to come on Princess ships. If so it is a clear message that the cruising experience is giving way to increasing the opportunities to extract as much money from passengers as possible by reducing amenities as well as the quality of “free” dining and increasing the incessant opportunities to purchase jewelry and artwork. You probably guessed we did not enjoy this cruising experience. Read Less
