This was our first cruise as a family. My husband and I are both in our 30’s. My son is 10 and daughter is 5. Unfortunately Royal Princess put such a bad taste in our mouth that this would be our first and last time on a cruise. We we’re ready to come back after the 2 day of our 7 day cruise. Here are a couple things why. We were told by our travel agent that this ship would be kid friendly which was not at all the case, my kids were bored the entire time. The Kids discovery is only open 9 hrs a day and they chop that into 3 hours so by the time you drop them off you need to pick them up again which would of been fine if they were actually having fun. My daughter never wanted to go and my son only went because there was nothing else to do for his age. They didn’t have any activities for them outside the Discovery camp. They’re activities were mostly for people who are 60 and above, the only thing my husband and I enjoyed was the comedy show. The food was absolutely awful! Very low quality with no taste when it comes to seasoning. My husband and I both lost weight if that gives you an idea of how bad the food was! Everyday was the same thing only some minor tweaks. If you want good food be prepared to pay for it because all the ones included in your ticket are horrible. Overall we were extremely bored and spent 80% of the time in our room, we felt very disappointed and let down. Please take my review very seriously when making your decision and explore better cruise lines when it comes to food, cleanliness, and Entertainment. Read Less

Royal Flush with 5 bet is only 1500...not the 4000 in every other video poker machine. Casino manager is terribly rude ! Unless you lose a lot, he thinks you are a free loader. The library had 22 books in it for 3900 passengers...the least stocked of any ship I've been on. Better bring your own books or you'll be bored to death. Only two dining rooms for anytime dining...and one will only let you in after 7:15pm. NCL is much better at their dining options and anytime is all the time. A much better cruise line for dining. Be careful with your laundry...the cabin steward picked up the bag without authorization, causing a big delay in getting the bag turned in and returned. Disembarkation was badly handled for Elite Members. Read Less

My now 90 year old mother and I took this same ship to the Panamal Canal in 2012 and we were now celebrating her 90th birthday and looking forward to the renovations that were made in 2017 to the ship. Imagine our surprise when we find that our balcony grade room was now 1/3 smaller and the shower so small that I could not even turn around without bumping my head (I'm almost 6 feet tall but no giant and my wife could not even shave her legs in the shower because there was no room. Also, the casino was cut in half and I was specifically told by the casino manager that Carnival had done this to create space for more rooms. So our comfort is sacrificed so Carnival/Princess can make a buck. Typical corporate mentality. Forget about quality just mo money mo money mo money!! Our room had no air conditioning for one night until I threatened to sue everybody and then it miraculously came back on. The food was mediocre at best. The shows were average (when you could get in since the cattle call of over 75+ seniors got to each show about 45 minutes before to take all the seats). I guess when there is nothing else to do you have no choice. The Huatulco shore excursion was a total joke. The guide spoke no English, was 45 minutes late and showed us the fronts of 4 hotels saying that these were the cultural highlights of the City! If I have to hear about one more bs EFFY jewelry promotion I am going to throw up. What a ripoff! Read Less

Have always wanted to see Alaska, and Alaska was great,,Princess not so much. The food and service was very disappointing. I have never seen prices on a main dining room menu until now! It took over 11 hours for maintenance to unclog our bath sink, had to use the shower to wash our hands! My companion got food poisoning on our first night, I called medical and they told me to COME DOWN FOR THE MEDICINE! I hung up the phone and abot 10 min later medical called to inform me they were still waiting for me. When I told them I couldn't leave her they came to our room with the med's! The waiter and helper was very poor. The helper was gone for exactly 20 min getting pre dinner drinks one time, we waited over 20 min for the table to be cleared for dessert. The food quality was also very poor, NOT what we were used to or expecting from Princess! It appears that Princess is trying to save money at the expense of customer service, and I can tell you, IT IS NOT WORKING!! I doubt if my loyalty to Princess will survive my next cruise line choice!!! Read Less

Took a Mexican cruise on Royal, was my 4th cruise on Princess...all I can say is OUCH! It has been 12 years since I have been on a cruise.....I LOVED (PAST TENSE) Princess until now....I am used to the smaller ships, 2600 passengers, as if that is small....but Princess really messed up the line...You cant add 1000 more passengers, ditch one pool and revamp the menu so it is like a high end buffet, and I am not talking about the Horizon cafe....I am talking main dinning room...we were told that there was a new head chef for the ship, even the employees were complaining on how bad the food was....1 less pool and 1000 more people means, you aint getting into one....PEOPLE EVERYWHERE, NO PLACE TO GO. HAD WHAT WAS AN OWNERS SUITE, WAS GREAT, BUT THAT WAS IT. The ship was busy all the time, everywhere you went... NO place to just chill without People everywhere....movies under the stars great idea except for one problem...no aft pool so PEOPLE ALWAYS THERE,, NO WAY YOU ARE GETTING INTO THE POOL...Sanctuary pool also BUSY ALL THE TIME and at night kids in the pool as well. .so many people that there are not enough elevators to get around, always always always waiting for an elevator.....and when you are in the elevators, guess what, no air conditioning in them so you are sweltering as you hit EVERY SINGLE FLOOR. As far as food the only place that the food was good was the international cafe off the Piazza. As a suite passenger in the past with Princess, we were treated like royalty..not anymore...the few perks that are offered to the suite passenger does not make up for the lack of service, did not feel any more special then the avg joe who payed ALOT less then I did....Service in the suites only area of the restaurant sucked...had to move to a different area to get mediocre service at best...THE table side special food prep, was not done table side and it was the same every night of the cruise, was pasta with a very bitter tomato sauce.....Head waiter was an a-hole to say the least......even the specialty restaurants were mediocre......there was nothing special about the food, bad in most cases.....heard After was on ROYAL by a few different travel agents that ROYAL has a very bad reputation for most of the things I am complaining about....DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on ROYAL, heck at this point don't waste your money on Princess.....spend the extra money and go on a true luxury cruise line. BIGGER IS NOT BETTER, no way no how! I know some of you haters are going to say some crap to me about something, so I will add this.... I had a hip replacement 2 months earlier and taking the steps was not an option.....and for the haters....go ahead..sling your best shot...I know you are all out there. I had multiple surgeries over the years, hence the reason I had waited 12 years for the trip....I deserved the suite...again haters be very careful on what you say, I have no problem coming back at you. It was absurd. 1/ filled pasta dishes, dried out, foolish. They serve cheap pork, cheap entrees, cheap stuff, one night was good out of 15. Next ! I paid equivalent to $200 for 7 hours of internet use. It is especially slow, takes 5 minutes just to sign on, no streaming, a total ripp off... Next ! Almost all entertainment is geared towards 80 year olds. They have a deck party and disco stuff , but are forced to have crew members attend so someone will be there. Next: Movies under the stars is great. Next: I highly suggest Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, others. Never Princess again. Next: Our cabin had a moldy toilet that was never cleaned Next: Out cabin attendant stole out wine opener, I asked him about it and he had it in his pocket. He was rude 2/3 of the trip, nicer when it was at the end for tip purposes...Sorry, no tip Next: $28.00 per couple is added to our bill daily for a tip program.Another ripp off ! If you ask at the front desk to decline, they will not charge you. Next: The casino had no atmosphere, fully dead... Next Drinks are $10.00-$11.00 what do you think of that ? When it takes 4hrs to have your toilet plunged or at least 20min for room service to answer the phone, what else really needs to be said? This was by far the worst cruise I've ever travelled on. Staff dragged their feet for everything. Barely a smile from staff the entire cruise. People just going through the motions. The itinerary is built for travellers 70+. Nothing except comedy show and bingo worth going to if you are 40 or below. The 80s night at Skywalker's was the newest music you will find. I made the mistake of bringing my 3 and 6yo on this cruise. If you do not drop them in kids club, you will be spending the time with your child in your room watching movies. Movies only because there were no kids channels or cartoons. Jeffrey Santiago (steward) and Edgar (Front Desk Manager) were lone superstars on the cruise. This cruise started out badly. We had to stand outside in the wind and heavy rain to check our bags, then were ushered into a cold tent where we had to wait 3 1/2 HOURS to board! Princess did not take any responsibility for their problems and did nothing to compensate us for the terrible experience. Don't think we will use Princess again. We chose this cruise because we wanted the sea days and were looking forward to warm weather in Hawaii and on the way. Unfortunately, there were storms coming and going so we were not able to sit around the pool or use our balcony. There were very few things to do on the sea days in the afternoon. Most of the lectures were at 9 or 10 in the morning and we weren't up that early. It just didn't seem to be up to the quality we expected of Princess. We had the late seating in the Botticelli dining room. The waiter and assistant were very good and the menu varied, but the food was bland even when it was described as spicy. The Horizon buffet was good, but the layout made it crowded and difficult to maneuver. The wait staff there were very attentive. The Magic To Do show and the other shows with the singers and dancers were really wonderful! The Magic To Do was like a Broadway show and probably the best show we have seen on a ship. The other entertainers were good - singers, magicians, comedians, ventriloquists, but about the same as you would find on any cruise ship. We did independent tours in Kauai and Hilo. It was very easy to walk around in Lahaina and Honolulu as we were docked or tendered to the center of town. In Ensenada we were within walking distance of the shops and bars in town. Read Less

We thought it would be a much nicer cruise. The ship was beautiful however we found the crew to be very lazy, especially in the buffet where we had to constantly ask them to clean off the tables, they seemed to just stand around and talk to each other in their native tongue, I think that was especially rude and should not be tolerated by the ship, Getting on board the confiscated our 2 way radios claiming it would interfere with the ship's navigation. This was our 28th. Cruise and we have taken the radios on at least 25 cruises and never had this happen before. There were many other things that added to a lot of aggravation when you should be having fun on your vacation instead of aggravating. All things considered I don't. Think I will go with Princess on another Cruise. Also the food left a lot to be desired, for example. One night in the dining room they had what was supposed to be filet mingnon, the steak was so tough I had to send it back and I ordered Linguini, which turned out so overcooked that I could not eat it, I think they were mad because I sent the steak back. We choose this cruise due to an excellent rate. We have been down the Mexican coast many times and wanted a little get away. We booked a Ocean View cabin, but were pleasantly surprised by an upgrade to a balcony. The food was not good at all. I compared it to something like cafeteria food or hospital food. Very bland and repetitious. The horizon buffet area was horribly crowed all the time. The food service area was small with long lines. The variety of food was very limited and not very good. The main dining room was also not good and the whole dining room set up was ugly - not glamorous or special by any means. One of the weird things was their Pizza area - by the way somewhere they rate this the best Pizza at sea - ummm, no. Anyway, next to the Pizza there is a coffee bar, however, you can't get a water or anything else to drink. Who eats Pizza and drinks coffee - yuk. So if you want something to drink to go with your Pizza besides coffee, you need to walk all the way across the ship to a bar and ask them for something to drink. This whole set up is dumb. The ports were excellent as I said, we had been there many times and knew what we liked to do. We went to a couple of shows and they were ok. We played bingo and it was enjoyable. We went to the casino and that was fine. I guess the point I am trying to make is that nothing really stood out above and beyond what we get with Royal Caribbean. One of the most irritating things was the embarkation process. It was not smooth and there was a lot of waiting around. Some long time Princess cruisers advised me that this was not at all Princess - they too were very disappointed and assurred me that usually everything was so outstanding on board. Anyway, we made the decision that we weren't going back for seconds to find out. Read Less

First ever cruise with Princess, but will also be our last. We have cruised with three other cruise lines previously, never have we been so disappointed. We were thinking perhaps our unpleasant experiences were a ‘one-off’ with Princess but having spoken with several Elite level passengers who had decided ‘enough was enough’ and that they would no longer cruise with Princess due to ongoing cuts and increasing poor service - we quickly realised a pattern had well and truly formed for the cruise line with no signs of improvement on the horizon. High time this ship went into dry dock. All chairs in the common areas had little to no padding left in them, VERY uncomfortable. Condescending entertainment crew. Sodas in every venue were flat. Entertainment and food were mediocre at best. A real shame, we were hoping to cruise again with Princess but this trip has certainly put us off. Met a couple of lovely elite level couples, if it wasn’t for them, the last 15 days would’ve been a complete write off. I might add, several other elite level passengers we spoke with all stated they would never cruise with Princess again. Read Less

We choose this cruise for a holiday get away. Princess Cruises were suppose to be upscale over Holland American and Carnival. What we found is an old and tired ship. They did maintenance on the swimming pools while in port (islands) so those staying on board could not use them. Last port, the deck maintenance crew started working a very rusted part of the Lido deck. The last night in the Dining room, the table was not completely set and we had to ask for water. The serving of of the main course was delayed due to an "error??" in the kitchen. and the waiter was spread between 3 or 4 tables. My wife and I are not new to cruising, and we have done about 30. and we know the difference between excellent , average and poor. We chose this cruise because my wife is several weeks pregnant. So we wanted to go to Hawaii to avoid any places with Zika. This was our last opportunity to vacation since both of us are very busy and rarely get much time off. And with the baby coming later this year its only going to be harder. If we had known that Princess was going to be so bad we would have flown to Hawaii and stayed in a hotel instead. Nearly every night we were woken up to loud thumping noises. We have some recordings and you can hear it pretty good even on just a crappy phone mic. It sounded like a very unbalanced washing machine directly above us. We contacted the help desk and our steward. But they wouldn't tell us what it was. It would go away once we said something but then back the next night. Needless to say we didn't get the restful sleep we wanted. Princess offered us $90 off our final bill at the end of the cruise but I felt like it should have been more than that. They told me I would have to contact customer relations. But in the mean time they went ahead and closed the bill. I called the day after I got home and was told I had to email not call. So I did that. It took them a few days and they called me back...not emailed. They said they would offer us $75 per person future cruise credit that we would have to schedule within one year. This was infuriating because we wont be able to cruise again any time soon because of the baby coming later this year. So the $75 per person is worthless to us. Beyond that the Emerald Princess is not in very good condition. There were several things in very poor condition or totally broken. And the food...having cruised with Princess in the past I was expecting a little better quality, but it was not good at all. Overall if Princess hadn't closed the bill and credited us the $150 we would have come away with a more positive experience. But now it feels like Princess is just forcing us to cruise with them again and we already know its probably not going to be good. Read Less

This ship is in need of overall remodeling, there are so many maintenance problems, toilet not working, ceiling drip water, smells in the walkways, toilet backflow,,, And the food quality is poor, I think they use leftovers for buffet dishes, the meat dishes are all very dry, the fishes are ok except after on buffet line for too long they are sometimes salty. They put raw fish at room temperature instead of covering them and keep them cooling, is somewhat strange to me. The services also terrible, most of the staff have bad manner. And DON'T choose "ANYTIME DINNING " we never could get a table for 2 before 9:00pm, they force us to share table, which we hate. I told customer service manager this he referred me to restaurant manager, but the restaurant manager told me there is nothing he could do. We are Elite members with 20 years of cruising. For 2 complete days on Emerald Princess (Dec 6 and Dec7) from 7:00am to 5:00pm there was an extremely loud noise near our cabin. We could not talk, hear each other or relax in our mini-suite.. There was a metal bumping, beating other metal near our balcony for the whole day. Was it a necessity to do such job on the sea days? Generally, the whole cruise was a disaster. The procedure of entering Fusion Club for “Captain Circle” was humiliating and incredible disrespectful. For example, the Entertaining Director Lisa was more to per-occupied only collecting the invitation from people than showing people how special and important they are. Lisa even did not want to look at the faces of the passengers or reply on our greeting, for example. The Cruise Director was a very young girl, who acted as a child. The "Wake show" was very unintelligent and just low class. The Cruise Ass. Director - a young girl from Mexico - was openly and inappropriate flirting with many men in front of their wives. There was a very poor entertainment, and the main activities on board were "Trivia". The room service was very slow, confusing and often mixed our orders. The room steward was barely working. The spa is extremely expensive. The whole activities were designed just to sell something to people. Our 12 friends who usually cruise with us every Dec.4 to Hawaii did not have any place to dance, because the good Ballroom band played in a very small space of the “Wheel house”. We want to get a refund for 2 of lost vacation days which were created by the fault of the ship. Read Less

As others have noted, Princess was tauted as one of the best cruises/cruiselines but we found it severely lacking. Again as Doxiesmom said about getting lost, we did as well numerous times but somehow always seemed to end up by all the hundreds of photos, the casino or the Lotus Spa. It was not a diabetic friendly cruise as even though we had purchased the soda package, the only diet soda available anywhere was diet coke. Diet Sprite/Sprite Zero could be had but it cost $2.00. What??? One sugar free option for dessert in the buffet which we ate dinner at each night instead of the main dining room. The Salty Dog was a joke that we paid $24 extra for. Come to find out the last night in the dining room they served those burgers there. Hmm.. Tell me again that food all comes from different kitchens on a cruise? The burgers and fries were great on the pool deck but it was always too cold to eat there. Luckily we did get one good meal in Cabo and that pretty much sustained us until we got back home. We had a balcony which was really nice. Looking down upon others' balconies wasn't interesting as one might think it would be. The latches on the balcony were rusted off as others have said but didn't bother us. However we were surprised our bed linens were not changed in the entire five nights. How do I know? Well the same torn ragged sheet was at the same corner of the bed for the entire time. Entertainment, well we went to the comedians but were not very impressed. The music in the Piazza was just way too loud all the time and the lack of seating in that area was bothersome because there were some people who took up residence there I believe. We did sleep well but the beds must be that memory foam stuff as well as the pillows because we woke up drenched every morning. Overall not the greatest cruise but of course everyone has different opinions. I loved the hair/head massages but the haircut I got was very minimal even though I said take a lot off. The tv was nice, glad they showed movies repeatedly but wish we'd known earlier that they did that. I went to one evening movie in the theater and was surprised that it wasn't edited for language. I'm not a prude but I do think in a public venue like that language and sex should be edited. There were like twenty people in the audience and after the first ten minutes of F-this and F-that, there were five of us left. I stayed because I had seen the movie only a few days prior and wanted to see it on a bigger screen. So I think we'll be sticking with Royal Caribbean. The service and quality of entertainment/food was much better with them and now we know the difference. I'm glad several people liked this cruise. I'm sorry we were not two of them. One other thing, the cleanliness of public spaces was severely lacking. In the Piazza area, there were glasses and food plates left near the elevators on the floor, several coffee cups all over the place, and not one stinking or non-stinking garbage can to be found ANYWHERE. WHAT The heck is up with NO place to throw your trash away???? This was throughout the ship and thoroughly annoying as was the plastic straws everywhere. Read Less

We have taken many cruises and have been on most of the lines. I don’t expect Princess to be in the ranks of Crystal, but certainly should be better then Carnival since it is their “Premiere” line. First of all the ship is old and just came out of dry dock so we expected it to be updated. The only upgrade is the room key and hallway monitors which seemed high tech. Other then that the cruise was horrible. The room creaked and cracked at any wave. We thought the window was going to fall off. We had difficulty sleeping 4 of the seven nights. Don’t expect to get any work done. The internet service was a joke. Barely any connection and at their prices they internet should work flawlessly. For example, to get an email takes 5 minutes of time. Also their cellular at sea is horrible too. Barely any connection. Satellites need updating for sure. Food was marginal at best. Maybe a 5. Not terrible but not as good as Celebrity and also not even as good as Carnival, their less glamorous line. Service was bad too. Seemed like the staff was doing you a favor to serve you. Food the last couple of days in the dining room was better so it seems they save that for the last day or two to help the reviews. Don’t expect to be amazed. Burgers were not so good on the deck and if you want a decent burger, they charge 5 dollars. And that burger is not even that great. It’s not the money, it’s the point. On Carnival they have Excellent burgers on deck for FREE. How hard is it to make a burger? In the international cafe they even charge you for simple Coffee. What? I get that if you want a latte they charge you but black coffee? Come on. Seems they are only concerned about making the extra money rather then making passengers happy. Don’t think I’ll be taking another Princess Cruise again. Read Less

The food was so bad that I was shocked! Gristle, fat and bland. The salmon was grey.. The staff was fabulous and very hard working. I have only been on one other cruise, with a different company, and this was so bad compared to the other one! The food on the other cruise was fabulous and there was two different stage shows each night. Princess only had one stage show at night, but did the same show twice. The dancers/singers were very talented, but the shows themselves were boring. It was a major let down. The comedians weren't funny, and one let a drunk passenger come on stage and take over the show. It was so obnoxious. An audience member yelled to get her off stage and the audience clapped but nothing was done about it. At the beginning of another show there were technical difficulties. The MC was up in the AV section and no one was near the stage area. An elderly man fell and was bleeding profusely but there was no security personnel around to get help. A passenger tried to help him up, and he was covered in blood! It made you wonder how security could be so oblivious!!! Read Less

Wanted a quick, close getaway; so saw Princess Cruise to Cabo. After only cruising on Disney Cruise Lines, we had high expectations that deflated after check-in on Princess. The ship is decorated out of the 70's, complete with hair dryers that are still mounted to the wall over your desk and probably have a 300 Watt capacity, that's only after you wash your hair with again a mounted shampoo/conditioner combo in your shower that makes your hair feel like straw. Dining should be an experience, well anything in the dining room you could get/see at your local Denny's. One night I ordered pasta w/clams, oh my received a fruit bowl of pasta with two clams the size of dimes on top. Poolside was the only bright spot of our cruise. Complete with movies, sports or trivia on the big screen. Bar poolside, with only a pizza kiosk that served raw pizza dough or hamburger, hot dog kiosk that served my best meal on the trip. Staff, some are nice & helpful. The majority were rude, walk up to the pool bar instead of greeting and say we'll be right with you - they choose to ignore you. Entertainment was enjoyable, dancers, comedian, etc. Nice music in lounges to enjoy & relax. Cabo was a fiasco, you have to tender; which we have done many times. Only with Princess, it took over 2 hours to get into a tender - that blew the day! Waiting seems to be Princess's way, in dining to tendering. Very disappointing! We gave Princess a try, never again. We are european cruiser. We love especially very long cruises (world cruises) 6 to 40 weeks. It was our first (and last) cruise by Princess Cruises. It was a 6-week combined cruise (3 single trips behind each other). The first 3 weeks was great. Than beginning the provocations (look down). Embarkation Vancouver very slowly (2 hrs.) and not professionel. Staff at guest relations counter incompetent. Cabin very nice, included services great, daily minibar refilled, daily fruits. Dining at the restaurants finest, restaurant staff great. Entertainment mediocre. Disembarkation well prepared and fast. Ship Star Princess and service staff very good and imposing. Security staff and officers incompetent and unkind. They still have to learn that the guest expects friendliness and courtesy. Service staff friendly and hardworking. All officers onboard Star Princess are lazy and ignorant. European guests are not welcome. An officer (from uk) attacked us physically and verbally insulted us WITHOUT ANY REASON. He touched me and he pushed me and he roars without reason. I ask him for his name and he roars again. Another (female) ships officer was a witness but later did not testify truthfully to the captain. Report to president jan swartz at the princess cruises headquarters in santa clarita. After the end of the trip, we demanded no financial compensation for the officer's attacks , but merely an apology. In order to avoid having to deal with the complaint, Princess Cruises' headquarters in Santa Clarita simply called my wife and me "attackers" and refused any further correspondence. The leaders of Princess Cruises in Santa Clarita have no conscience and no decency. And the British officer is too cowardly to apologize. Result: Paid $ 40,000 for a total of 6 weeks horror trip on MV Star Princess. NEVER AGAIN Princess Cruises! Aggressive, deranged officers and mendacious management at headquarter. Read Less

We went on this cruise because of the ports visited. We were on the ship for 28 days. My husband and I have been on 50 cruises and have never been so disgusted with a cruise line. It is now on the bottom of my rating list. Ship leaked badly, very rude and arrogant crew. No customer service. Food bad. Dining room staff impossible. Cabin location(mini-suite) where 6 decks and bridge above could look on your balcony. Entertainment venue was always full 1 hour before entertainment began. If you were not there early you stood or sat on the floor in the aisle. Not perks for Captain's Circle members. Tv in cabin had no programming for account, movies, remote very limited. On the docks the crew members would rush off to get the ground transportation before paying passengers. No representative on the docks for Princess to answer questions. Please think carefully before going on the ship. Read Less

Chose this cruise as the itinerary was just what we wanted. Some of the South Pacific ports were disappointing, but loved all those in New Zealand and of course our final destination of Sydney. Ship is old, Horizon Buffet lacks variety and food tasteless, main theater much too small to accommodate the passengers, poor management such as running out of specific wines at the bar, plumbing and water system had problems, although dining room food was good the menu selections weren’t....ship needs to be retired. For a repositioning Cruise they did not offer afternoon entertainment or lectures as other cruise lines do. The Golden Princess biggest asset was their crew. They were professional, polite and very accommodating...with a few exceptions. Did not take any ships tours, so cannot comment. Our cabin with balcony was old, comfortable bedding, closet space plentiful but in dire need of renovation. Princess Cruise Line needs help.... Read Less

We choose this cruise solely based on it's itinerary. We had read previous poor reviews about this ship but Princess stated that all had been corrected. They lied. There are still garbage smells in public areas. Outside aft elevator lobby on 7th deck for one. There are still mild smells in corridors throughout the ship.Problems started with embarkation. There was only one person taking in baggage. He would fill a cart, disappear for awhile to unload the cart and then return to start the process over again. This took forever with only one person. Once aboard we then observed many unsatisfying problems. The bird poop on our balcony furniture was disgusting and made us avoid meals there. There are only 2 aft elevators reaching the 17th deck. One was inoperative for the first week of the cruise. The moving stairway from the 17th deck to Skywalker lounge operated one day of the 20 day cruise. The food selection in the main dining room was the worst selection that I have experience in many years of cruising. The buffet (where we wound up most nights) was not much better. The quality of the food was below average. The library had a selection of about 2 dozen books total. There were water leaks through out the ship with areas roped off and buckets underneath. the theater had water pouring in streams from the ceiling. This is the only ship I have experienced with real ice cream only at dinner. The ice cream bar only serves soft serve cones. The Princess Patter was often wrong and incomplete. It would certainly be nice to include a short description of the evening shows. The enrichment program was a joke The theme was considering retirement and what to expect and plan for. Great topic except about 80% of the passengers were already retired. I am sure that someone at Princess has heard about the adverse health effects of second hand smoke. To get to the main entrance of the theater, it is necessary to pass through the smoke filled casino. Doors usually opened 1 hour before theater performances. This is great for handicapped people. Unfortunately, too many times the doors opened 10 to 20 minutes early leaving the handicapped standing and waiting. It was necessary for handicapped to arrive early in order to get suitable seating. Many events were conducted in the Piazza with no seating. They could at least set up some folding chairs. There were too many overlaps of one time performances so you day to choose one or the other. The theater entertainment was just plain poor. Way too much rock and roll for a 70+ average audience. Many people walked out each night. The resident ship performing troop only did 2 shows in 20 days. Actually, one was good. Again, the other was not suitable for the audience. The only positives about this cruise were our cabin attendant and we got to New Zealand. Albeit, after a several hour stop at sea one day to check out new equipment on board. Why couldn't they do this at night when people are sleeping? I am sure that other problems existed, but there were too many to remember. Read Less
