Sadly our reasoning for the choice of ship and cruise line was determined by the lack of available and desired cruise destination with our usual cruise provider, cunard. The following are the few good points : Embarkation and diaembarkation Balcony room steward Customer service desk Waiter service at dinner The following are the negative points : Wines, spirits and beers massively and for the quality of the wines in particular, overpriced. Service slow, and non existant if you were not lounging near the pool. Food quality at dinner, not fine dining by any stretch of the imagination, poorly plated and presented and regularly undercooked. Wine waiter knew nothing about the wines on offer and was only interested in constantly overfilling the glass to push sales. The entertainment was average at best,,, we only managed to access one show at the 10.15pm slot (we chose an 8.00pm dining time) as the theatre was full from earlier diners remaining seated along with there sleeping children, preventing any opportunity to gain a seat, i refuse to stand to watch any show for this reason. Overall a poor shipboard experience. NEVER to be repeated. Ruined the holiday Read Less

Chose cruise for ports of call. Cruise experience did not meet previous princess standards. The crown is dated and not well maintained. The hotel staff were not as informed as prior cruises. Meal quality definately has declined. Dining room service was rushed. Since carnival acquired princess the past two cruises have been less than satisfying. On board pricing has increased and quality has declined. Internet service poorly set up. New medallion concept confusing to staff. We were locked out of our cabin on one occasion. Can no longer recommend Princess as worth the money to cruise. I am just short of elite status but will no longer choose Princess as my go to cruise company. I feel quite conflicted over my review as Princess was an exceptional cruise line. It has changed quite dramatically. It feels like passengers are simply revenue makers. The personal touch of the past is missing. My next cruise will probably be with a high end line so I get what I paid. Read Less

Whilst the embarkation and dis embarkation went very smoothly and the cabin and the ship itself was of a good standard we were left feeling disappointed at quality of the food on offer and the additional charge if you wanted a steak rather than what was offered on the menu. The price of beverages was a rip off, $6.75 for a can of Guinness probably with their buying power they get it for less than 50c a can. The entertainment was average at best, did not attend any half way through the cruise. The crew are excellent and friendly as they are on all cruise ships. First time with Princess and the last as well. Overall the potential was there to have a really excellent cruise but let down by the companies goal of adding more profits, not arriving in Skagen and 2 hours late arriving in Copenhagen just took the shine right off. When on our previous 24 cruises with other cruise lines, we often saw Princess ships in port. We always admired the look of these and since they attract quite a high "official" rating, we decided that one day we would sail Princess. We live in the UK so when the Round Great Britain programme featured the Crown Princess, we booked with excited anticipation. Oh dear....we were so let down and felt so disappointed with the reality, so here goes: The personal highlights of cruising for me are exceptionally good food and very good theatre entertainment evenings. This cruise let us down badly as the food in MDR I would rate from fair to very poor and the Buffet only fair in terms of quality. The entertainment arrangements were crazy as most evenings there would be one comedian or one singer, on stage twice in the main theatre whllst the singers/dancers team were featured for only one performance in a relatively small lounge which was full, so that guests were blocking the passage-way outside of the lounge trying to watch the performance. The quality of the "shows" was, overall, mediocre, with people seen to be walking out on the act on several occasions. The ports of call were fine, but we were surprised to have to pay unreasonably high costs for shuttle bus transfers into town on occasions. Drinks were more expensive than I have seen anywhere and when served were never accompanied with a receipt, so I had no idea how expensive until I called up an account statement later. I never bought a drink after that. The Spa costs were prohibitive, so we didn't use this facility. On the positive side, the room steward was exceptionally good, as was our waiter in the MDR. In fact, all staff were pleasant, cheerful and hard working. In fact, I feel that these people "save the day" for Princess and I hope that they are suitably rewarded for doing so. On the subject of crew, i only saw one middle ranking ships officer (who had dropped into the buffet for a snack) anywhere until dis-embarcation, when some appeared to organise the process. The ship's condition was very good and very clean and our stateroom was immaculate. Would we travel again with Princess.....NO Read Less

I chose this cruise specifically due to the fact that it included Liverpool and a Deluxe Beatles tour that included access to inside tours of John Lennon and Paul McCartney's childhood homes. Due to a series of events, my excursion was cancelled and I was told there was no room of any of the three lesser Beatles tours available. What lead to this? First, bad weather prevented us from tendering at Guernsey (which we heard from others happens quite often so I am wondering why it is included as a port). We headed on to Cobh where, as we docked, there was a problem with a generator which the captain said he had never experienced. We limped into Dublin hours late and extended that stay which made us late into Liverpool and resulted in the cancellation of my Deluxe Beatles excursion. In the mean time, our toilet had been running, so we reported it but got no one to look at it. Our toilet stopped flushing, so we reported it. After a while someone came to "fix" it and, as a result, our toilet overflowed, filling roughly 1/3 of the balcony cabin. Items we'd had on the floor were moved (including my husband's soaked shirt), the padding under the carpet was removed, a wet vacuum was used on the carpet, and large fans were placed in the room to dry the carpet. The fans had blown out the power so there was no air conditioning. We were told there was no other room to stay in for the night and that the best they could offer was to turn off the fans for the night. After my husband spent over an hour dealing with a supervisor who told us there was no other cabin available she finally found a single interior room that we could use for that night. My husband canceled his Wales excursion to help me find Beatle-related activities to do in Liverpool the next day. His excursion had been taken down to about half what it was supposed to be anyway due to the time constraints that resulted from the late arrival in Liverpool. Everyone on the cruise was given $100 onboard spending money for the troubles with the itinerary. My husband and I were each given $100 each for the trouble with the cabin, but I can't get back to Liverpool, take the tour I wanted and get back home on $100. Weather issues can happen on a cruise. Mechanical issues can happen too. But someone made the call that we should extend the stay in Dublin at the expense of the Liverpool stay. I guess they assumed that more people would want the time in Dublin than to arrive on time in Liverpool - but it would not have been my choice. We were so late into Dublin anyway that those who tried to make it to the Trinity Library to see the Book of Kells had the door shut in their faces. Read Less

This was my 15th cruise and my third with Princess. The quality has definitely declined since the merger. We we first ordered to surrender our passports!?! Before boarding the ship. I can’t believe Princess would send passengers into a foreign country on the excursions after taking their passports and refusing to give them back! Princess stated that was a rule of the embarkation group who are not affiliated with the company!? They are dealing with every single customer of yours and handing over all the passports to ship personnel who refuse to return them. Some passports were misplaced (horrifying experience when trying to return back to your country)! There were only two employees to handle all the shore excusion activity when we docked at each port The boat had a mechanical failure which forced the captain to cancel a port altogether and wait for 8 hours outside Dublin for high tide. This has happened on other boats from time to time, but there we’re “projects” a crew member was attempting to fix all around the boat. The engine, the elevator(people did get stuck), numerous flooring issues taped off, room attendant carts constantly parked in hallways, etc. This went far beyond the routine “wet paint” areas you normally see. The dining staff we always in a frantic rush due to lack of enough staff. Mistakes were very common. The employees genuinely wanted to give excellent service, but were overwhelmed. The menu was disappointing. Each night came with an insert menu listing better dishes for an additional $20 per person. This cheapened the original menu items and made a family of 6 pay and additional $120 a night if the wanted to try an excellent dish! Unbelievable! Due to my past two excellent Princess experiences, I found myself making excuses for Princess to my friends and family. When we returned home and remembered all the negative experiences, we were disappointed that we chose Princess. Read Less

I chose this Cruise because I am a regular Cruiser and was running out of ships & destinations with my favourite company NCL and to a lesser extent Royal Carribean. On the surface they seemed very good and the recent tv program swung it in their favour. The Que tmerely to register should have been a warning, way too long, way to slow and not enough staff to manage. Pop down the road and see how easy it is with Royal Carribean who simply make the whole thing painless from the moment you park your car. Now to the truth of the matter. The food was way below standard compared to NCL and RC, some of it was even inedible. I spent 25 years as a Chef in a previous life so I can talk with some expertise. The service was great but you can't eat service. The Entertainment was dreadful, particularly in the theatre compared to some of the fantastic stuff you get all night long with NCL. Simply not even close to Norwegian Cruise Line The Casino closed at 1.30 latest every night to the huge annoyance of everyone playing, and although I spend small this is the highlight of my holiday. I purchased 2 very expensive drink packages to cover my casino use and barely touched them. I asked for a refund of one of them when I got home and it was declined, together with my other issues brushed aside. I felt completely ripped off and Princess Customer Services are totally inept and brush off your observations without any satisfactory resolution. I hate moaning and can usually live with what I get but this Cruise cost me a lot of money and left a really bad taste in the mouth. (Metaphorically and in reality) I will remember your Southern Fried Chicken long after I forget your Cruise, I think I am still trying to digest it. Seriously, if you are looking for a great Cruise with fantastic food and entertainment, go with NCL. They get it as right as Princess get it wrong and are about the same prices without silly restrictions on the amount you can drink. I spent a lot of money on this holiday and feel utterly ripped off in terms of money spent and service received. I have spent the last 12 years recommending cruises to all of my friends and anyone who will listen, and dozens of them had taken me up on it, primarily going with NCL and having the time of their lives. I have been a great Marketing agent for them all of this time, and will now turn my attention to telling people the truth about Princess. The refund of a drink package and a sincere apology and explanation would have helped, and certainly prevented this, but that was too much for them. In some small way I hope that people will read this and be warned and spend their hard earned money elsewhere. To give this advice, and cost Princess sales will in some way make this experience a little easier to swallow, unlike their Chicken ! Trust me, if you are a new Cruiser, or someone looking for a change, and do not want the stuffiness of P&O, treat your self to NCL (not the Epic though as its too big and busy and badly laid out re the staterooms) To a lesser extent I recommend Royal Carribean but Princess, what can I say, You have been warned Read Less

My son chose this Cruise as he had sailed with NCL and Royal Carribean and had nothing but praise for those two companies and the brilliant time I was going to have. He chose it as it seemed comparable with those two companies on price and Marketing jargon but did not live up to the hype. The entertainment was more Butlins than West End, although the theatre was very good and the last show was ok but according to my son, with RC & NCL that happens every night. The food at best was adequate and did not live up to my expectation. In fact, the conversation around our table and talking to other guests was that the standards were not as good as similarly priced competitors. Even the waiting staff agreed that it was a common observation by guests, although according to my son, when you mention this to Princess Customer Services, they deny it all (rather unsurprisingly) My son worked as a chef in top establisments for many years and is quite capable of making the distinction. The crew were very good, the ship was lovely, the public places clean and nice to be in but the whole thing was a bit of a let down for us, as my son felt guilty at encouraging me to come along at a cost well in excess of £1000, a lot for me on my pension ! The cabin was nice enough and served its purpose. I will go Cruising again, but not on Princess, I will take my sons advise and go with NCL next time, suggest you do the same. Read Less

My partner and I decided on Princess after seeing the recent tv series, and running out of destinations with our favourite Norwegian Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean. On the surface they seemed on par, in reality they are lacking in just about every department. If its your 1st Cruise, you will probably think it is fine, but for a seasoned Cruiser with "better" cruise lines this will leave you frustrated and disappointed. 1. The food was simply not good enough compared to NCL & RC. Very small portions in the Open Dining Restaurants, badly presented, not hot enough in stark contrast to NCL. 2. Cleanliness was lacking throughout the ship, again in comparison to NCL where you see crew members cleaning all public areas all of the time. Here they are noticeable by their absence. The ship is clean and tidy, but it is reassuring on a cruise ship to see proactive staff. 3. The entertainment was simply adequate compared to NCL and RC who pretty much put on a great show nearly every night. On this cruise the last nigh twas ok but the rest was pretty much time filling yawn. 4. The excursions are so expensive, its not worth looking at them unless you are on a really good budget, and the ports are pretty mundane apart from the town on the Bordeaux stop which is pretty and free shuttle service to get there. Guernsey was really nice.. 5. We had stateroom 327 which waw really nice apart from a completely useless air conditioning which made it impossible to get a good nights sleep. Bed comfortable and good tv service but that was all let down by the air con 6. The crew in all departments were exemplary in stark contrast to the above, but thats what you pay your money for isn't it? 7. My partner spent a lot of money on 2 drinks packages for us as he wanted to spend his late nights in the Casino which they shut every night at 1.30 latest despite their being players at the tables, rendering his drink package unnecessary. Be warned, there is no compromise with Princess cruises, when he complained and asked for 1 of the packages to be refunded they declined. When you consider what a drink actually costs to supply in contrast to what you sell it for we thought that at best a little miserable and unacceptable. I would seriously recommend you go with NCL ahead of these operators. NCL just get it right and Princess could learn an awful lot from them Read Less

We have cruised 18 times with Princess and with the exception of this last cruise, it has always been excellent. This cruise was a bargain basement boat ride. It was a costly, disorganized, irritating disaster. The Versailles tour was an aggravating nightmare, depriving us of the opportunity of a lifetime. Princess was responsible for a 45 minute late start. The tour category of moderate should have been strenuous. Our tour guide was preoccupied with participants, including wheelchair and walkers who needed assistance. Consequently, we got an expensive bus ride and a quick look at the palace. No time for the grounds, musical presentation or gift shop. Do not pay for the useless Dublin shuttle service. It is much less expensive and more convenient to taxi. Our balcony looked like a leftover garage sale. On the plus side; the staff was courteous and helpful. The service and food at the dining room was very good. Sabatini's was better than ever and the Crown Grill was first class. The production shows were fun, lively and entertaining . We did not "Come Back New", we came back angry. Princess WAS "Where We Belong". We hope they fix it. Read Less

This was my 4th Princess cruise and may be my last. The cruise started in Southampton England. It just came from transitioning over from Fort Lauderdale and a good number of guests stayed on board for the second part of the cruise. The ship holds approximately 3,000 guests. Day 1. Upon arrival, our room was available enabling us immediate access. The room looked like it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned for a while. There was dust on the tables, headboards and lamp bases. The rug was stained and needed a good vacuuming, it probably should be replaced. The bed was made but not to the standard we experienced on prior Princess cruises. There was no ice in ice bucket, and when our steward finally filled it after asking him to do so. He never checked it again to see if it needed to be refilled. Day 3. We decided to eat breakfast in the main dining room vs the buffet. Being a party of 6 it was difficult finding a place to eat in the buffet. People would just sit there after they finished eating, taking up space for other guests to eat. The service in the main dining room was horrendous. We never experienced such a disorganized crew. It took approximately 30 minutes to get juice and coffee. When the food finally came, it was cold, and bagel I ordered was as hard as a rock. I didn’t have the time to wait to send it back since I was going on an excursion. The ship’s procedure for returning passports they had retrieved from us when first checked in, definitely needs to be reviewed and fixed. We were first told our passports would be delivered to our room. It turned out, some were delivered to their rooms and others were not. Some people were told their passports were missing when they were at the customer service desk. Some passengers were told their passports were lost, upsetting many passengers. We never received our passports so we had to go to customer service waiting in long lines to retrieve them. Another couple we sailed with said their steward knocked on their door and said he only had one passport. He said they lost the other passport. He told them to go to the customer service to see about the missing passport. The first time they went to customer service they were told their passport would be delivered to their room later in day. After waiting a half a day for their passport, they went back to customer service again and were told their passports were at the Irish Immigration terminal and would arrive the next day. They were so upset. They went back again and customer service asked if they changed rooms. On their fourth visit to customer service, the staff member finally went in back and returned with their missing passports. All they did was make up stories to try to appease the situation. They tried to dismiss my friends saying they didn’t need the passports anyway. This is totally unacceptable. My excursion in Ireland that day started off good. Then during a stop at Trinity College, the tour guide sped to the entrance leaving behind half the guests on the coach. It was impossible trying to find her, she just disappeared. We never found her until we re-boarded the bus to return to the ship. We were pretty much on our own, which was upsetting since we paid for a guided tour which we never received. Upon returning to the ship after the excursion, the line to get back on the ship was about 600 people deep. The crew kept reversing the lines, people were bumping into each other, and they actually stopped the entry onto the ship for no apparent reason. The entire crew was disorganized and need to be retrained on how to deal with crowd control. In the past Princess never charged for hot chocolate at the buffet. This was the first time we had to pay for hot chocolate while on the cruise. I cannot drink coffee or tea so I was upset to discover this new charge. Also, if you want a coffee or tea at the International Cafe, Princess now charges their guest, where in the past they did not. This is absurd. They appear to be looking for new ways to rip off the consumer. Day 9. My excursion today was in Edinburgh. The excursion was delayed by 1/2 hour due to the disorganization of the staff. Day 10. As the cruise continued, staff had finally worked out some of the kinks with the shore excursion and the food selection had improved. By the end of the cruise it appeared everyone on the cruise was either sick or getting sick. I myself got sick on the last day of the cruise. Since the cruise transitioned from Fort Lauderdale, and there were still approximately 1,200 guests on-board, I do not think staff had adequate time to fully sanitize the ship. Additionally, guests were getting off and on at different ports along the cruise. Plus waiting in long lines at the ports in the cold did not help the situation. Our room steward did not properly put our disembarkation tags where we could find them. When we finally did, we noticed they were not for the time was asked customer service to exit the ship. We had to go back to customer service again to get the correct tags for disembarkation. Day 11. We took an excursion to Paris which was definitely not long enough; three hours each way on the bus, leaving only four hours to see Paris. It would have been great while in ports such as Paris and Edinburgh they had overnight stays. Plus they should offer face masks to their guests for the bus ride to avoid getting sick. Day 12. The night before the end of the cruise, we noticed the tag was missing off the water they offered for sale, that we never used. When we looked at our bill we noticed a charge for the water. We asked our steward about the charge and he said the bottle was opened which was an outright lie. We went to customer service and they reversed the charge. Seriously, it’s going to take a lot for me to cruise again on Princess. Read Less

Chose this mini-cruise as was due to visit Guernsey & Cherbourg. Also booked an independent tour in Guernsey. The night prior the tour company informed us the ship would not be porting in Guernsey and issued us with full refund. Nothing from Princess, even tho booked direct, checked website and cruise personaliser all evening, nothing. Arrived at Southampton, very smooth check-in handed stateroom keys and still nothing said, so I asked and, after consulting notes on her desk, the agent confirmed we would not be going to Guernsey due the weather but would visit Brest instead. No other passengers were being informed of the change either (I was listening to others checking in) so the first most people became aware of the change was on arrival in their stateroom where a letter had been left on the bed. Not good enough Princess, especially as your T&C's permit a refund if changes are made by you prior to departure. Anyway, that aside, we booked a mini-suite which was a lovely large cabin with separate seating area, 3 seater sofa, plus good size bathroom. It also had a large balcony, however was on Dolphin Deck which protrudes further outside the ship than the decks above, so every deck above could look down at you which we hated. (See photos) Also the deck furniture appears to suffer the elements more as was quite scruffy. We also had very very noisy neighbours on both sides, groups of girlies celebrating 30th birthdays but who constantly decided to group-sing, shout and scream, bang on friend's cabin doors, slam their own cabin door constantly, and on one side of us they constantly smoked on the balcony. We also saw the same group walking right around the prom deck all with lit cigarettes in hand. We like to have breakfast in the room. We have taken 20 cruises including Cunard and RCI and have always been able to have a decent selection of hot items for a room-service breakfast. Not so on this cruise, the only hot item was an egg bacon and cheese muffin, you could not even order it without cheese as was a pre-sealed microwaveable packed piece of rubbish. You could not even have toast just pastries. So we tried the Horizon Court for breakfast, well the queues were so long that they stretched out the door either end so we gave up. And so we come to the ports, we arrived at the re-scheduled port of Brest on a Sunday. It is completely closed on a Sunday, There were no excursions available either on or off the ship, so the only people walking deserted streets were our fellow cruise passengers, most of whom gave up and returned to the ship shortly after leaving it. Then we arrived at the originally scheduled port of Cherbourg, on a Monday. It too was closed. Shops there open from Tuesdays to Saturdays. The only stores open were the clothes boutiques in the small Les Eleis shopping mall plus the Carrefour supermarket there. Great scheduling Princess! So, this was a taster cruise for us as we had booked a 10 day Caribbean trip in 2019 and wanted to see what Princess would deliver. Sadly, it fell way short of our expectation and so we have now cancelled the other trip. However, one mention must go to the onboard staff, they were excellent, very friendly and a joy to meet. Planned cruise months in advance and I must say a complete waste of money. Buffet staff was great, food was great, room attendant excellent but that was it. Entertainment was a joke, it was brutal. The onboard entertainers were the worse talent I have ever seen. They tried to sing Opera and it was a nightmare. The best act was a singer from New Zealand. They change the itenary so we miss Norway, belfast and new Foundland Canada, reason due to storm Helen. When you look at map and the new ports they took Vigo Spain and Azores their claim was ludicrous, if it was so bad why were we still in Northern Atlantic. They gave us a $200 credit, who cares. What was worse was ESPN went down sept 18 and I was told 5 different stories by the staff at guest services and I challenge them until a supervisor got involved. Resolution I had to purchase a internet plan to stream an event. I told the manager I needed 6mbps to stream and he said the current speed was 15mbps. I bought the $99 plan for 200 minutes, which you have to go to logout.com to log off, go figure. The data speed was actually 1.6mbps a total sham. I called the internet cafe and the story was it is satellite internet, they are 400 users on , every excuse that I was not buying. The event stream was a disaster. Pure dishonesty and I outright expose their internet as a racket. Ship boutiques worse I have seen. The selection was so poor, I was irritated to my core. One staffer said it best, the Royal Princess was for older people as 80% off the cruisers probably was over 70. First and last, I will be going back to Norwegian. Worse $4000 spent and a lesson learnt. Read Less

This was my third sailing with Princess since 2013 and it has really gone down hill. The Norwegian Fjords were obviously STUNNING but if I were to do the same itinerary again (and I absolutely would go to Norway again in a heartbeat), I would go with a different cruise line. TRANSFERS The transfers to and from the cruise terminal and Heathrow airport were hectic with people rushing us to get on and off the bus. I don't really know why. They were just very pushy. Luckily once we were on, it was fine and our luggage was not lost or tossed around carelessly. So that's something. EMABARKATION Embarkation always involves a bit of waiting in line and this was no different but the check-in agents were working very quickly and they were friendly. This process was seamless and, once through the line, we got onto the ship very quickly. Once we were onboard, we we met our cabin steward who was very friendly and he informed us when the muster drill would be. He also said there was no longer a requirement for passengers to wear their life vests during the drill so we could just go straight to our stations. That was really nice! Our cabin was also very very spacious. I don't know how we got it but it was a wheelchair accessible room with lots of extra space. There was a ton of storage with a wall of closets and the bathroom had a large wet room type of shower. Much nicer and more convenient than the normal ones. The bed was also incredibly comfortable and we had a hard time getting out of it several times! We took many naps. SERVICE Service level was hit or miss. I would say about 2/3 of the employees we interacted with were not good. By that I mean they either had a bad attitude, were slow with the service, never brought us what we asked for, didn’t greet us etc. It felt like we had to go out of our way to get serviced sometimes. Then 1/3 of the staff were fine. However, only one dinner waiter (we had anytime dining) and one drink server come to mind when I think about people we received excellent service from on board. The cabin steward was good and friendly but mostly invisible with not a lot of interaction to judge on. Our cabin key cards demagnetized probably 7 times during the trip which was annoying because we had to bring it to the front desk each time to get a new one. A lot of the times we had to wait in a line of people to talk to the front desk clerks too - while being locked out of our room! We asked how we could prevent it and they said “did you have your key card near your phone or a magnet?” And sometimes we did but there was at least one time I know with 100% certainty that it didn’t touch either because I didn’t even bring around my phone with me (had no service anyway) and I kept the key card in its own pocket. They were not helpful but they really just need a better system that doesn’t fail so easily. FOOD The food was very disappointing. The buffet food was 90% gross and 10% okay. On a cruise, I’m splurging and endulging on, I want good food, not just sustenance. The food was not satisfying in that way at all. We even went to the steakhouse that costs extra (with a credit from our travel agent) and it was just about average/passable. Surprisingly, the pizza and burgers out on the pool deck were better than some of the buffet food. We got the feeling that Princess was penny pinching and skimping out on quality. Maybe it was because we were in a more remote place in Norway where fresh ingredients were harder to come by but everything tasted frozen and reheated the whole time. The dinner menus also seemed to be less creative than I’ve experienced before. We had breakfast in the dining room once and it was literally just the food from the buffet and international cafe put on a plate and brought to our table for us. ENTERTAINMENT We didn’t go to any of the main stage productions but we passed by the theater a few times during and could hear some off-key singing voices. Some of the bands and singers in the lounges were also off key or just boring. People hardly danced at all. It also seemed like there were much fewer activities like games and karaoke going on throughout the days and nights. The sea days were almost boring because of that. The pools and hot tubs were overly crowded (probably because there wasn’t much else to do) and at the “adults only” pool, the rule was not being enforced so there were kids splashing around in it and in the hot tubs. ALCOHOL Last cruise we did with Princess, we got the premium beverage and spirits package and thought it was a great deal! This time, not so much. It’s very expensive and you have to drink a LOT to break even. The beer, wine, and cider selection is very weak. The bartenders would not allow us to get a large bottle of water and we could only order 2 small ones at a time. So, we couldn’t even get our money’s worth with non-alcoholic drinks let alone booze. Adding in specialty coffees, I think we just barely broke even but that was with actively trying to drink as much as we possibly could. I would not recommend it. EXCURSION We only did one. We did the Bergen (Norway) walking tour with ice bar. It was good and I would recommend it for a nice overview of the city. Our guide was very nice and friendly. The ice bar was more of an attraction, a bit gimmicky, not an actual bar open to just anyone but it was still neat. It came with a cocktail. SPA I got my acrylic nails refilled at the Lotus spa and the tech was friendly and did a great job. No complaints. OTHER Selling and upselling was very prevalent. “Book your next cruise!”, “Buy this jewelry”, “go to this wine tasting for an extra cost”, etc etc. DISEMBARKATION When it came time to disembark, this is where things got really bad. It seemed clear to me that, because we were done, we couldn't spend anymore money, they no longer cared about us. The night before disembarkation, we received instructions in our stateroom that had a meeting place and time. This was where we would meet and gather to be connected to our airport transportation. The instructions EXPLICITLY STATED “do NOT arrive early” to the meeting place. This made sense because there are different groups that may be meeting in the same place but at a different time. We got up early, sat around in the piazza and drank coffee waiting for our time slot. At 9am we went to the meeting place and sat for a minute. Then, the coordinator announced that “the last group” (not ours) could go. We looked on the sheet provided that detailed the groups, meeting times and places and saw that the group he called wasn’t supposed to meet there until 9:45 but. We went up to him and asked for clarification. He casually said they were just running ahead of schedule. WAIT WHAT? Again, the instructions specifically emphasized not to arrive early, so how is that possible? Of course now, we rush out. We get to baggage claim and notice our bags are the last ones left in our group. There was a woman there telling us to hurry because our bus and everyone was waiting for us! Again, even though we were precisely on time. It was confusing and infuriating. We were wondering what would have happened if we were in the 9:45 group that left 45 minutes early! Would we have been left there with no transfer? Luckily we got on the bus but it left a really bad taste in our mouth how the whole thing was handled. Overall, there were some good things and some bad things but I can say I will not be sailing with Princess again. It’s just not worth the money. Read Less

It was our (myself, husband and 2 kids aged 18 and 7) first time cruising, and were really looking forward to what sapphire princess had to offer after hearing such good things about it from various people. As an overview the food was good, service was sometimes a little hit and miss in the anytime dining although all staff were very pleasant. Apart from receptionist when we asked how to go about removing tips. (we tipped individuals separately). Breakfast in Horizon court was excellent infact the choice of food In this dining area was excellent most of the time. We don’t really drink we took 3 bottles on board but came back with 2! But whenever dining or sat in entertainment areas we felt a little bombarded by the promotion of buying drinks (Because this is a great money earner). The onboard entertainment didn’t really appaal to my 18 year old as he fell Out of the youth bracket and there weren’t many, if any young people his age to interact with. Although he had a fantastic time off board, when we visited the different cities and really enjoyed the food onboard. The shows were inconsistent in quality and some were funny for the wrong reasons although entertaining! The places visited were all exceptional apart from Gibraltar. The cabins were good we had 2, 1 double and 1 with 2 singles. They were adequate in size and had great storage. Bathroom adequate and clean but it could do with a refurb. The main problem for us whilst onboard was the pool, and lack of life guards and supervision. Adults and children alike ignored the no jumping and diving signs and it made pool time with my son unbearable. It caused numerous rows around the pool with parents and younger children complaining about others to staff who eventually showed up to take a look after having had so many complaints from different people. 2 kids landed on me, on separate occasions, bruising and cutting my leg, and as I couldn’t stand up in the pool areas because they were too deep (I’m 5’3) it felt really unsafe for my 7 year old, who wanted to spend as much time in there as he could because the kids club staff put him off on his first visit. They refused to call us to collect him when he wanted to leave, after they said they would with it being his first visit and we remained unpacking in our cabin so they could. We returned after an hour for him and from that point he refused to attend again which is a shame, because he was looking forward to dipping in and out of certain activities, which is why he wanted to go in the first place. Staff didn’t deal with the pool issues and the kids and parents of those kids spoilt it for us and others, particularly when they somersaulted over your head, dive bombed people or threw their kids towards other people who were trying to cool down. It was actually horrendous, so I recommend not going during school holidays on this ship. I’m a teacher so needless to say I won’t be going again, which is a real shame. After asking if they can make an announcement and have staff presence around the pool, they provided staff for 2 days but they had so many complaints on the poolside, they didn’t bother after that, whilst there they didn’t stop them all of the time anyway. The captain announced that all must abide by the rules but doing this 2 days before the cruise ended when the weather became cooler as we hit the Atlantic back to Southampton, it was too little too late. Going from Southampton, you do tend to lose about 4 sunbathing days, although some people were on sun loungers in all weathers wrapped in towels. So you could do with cardigans / jumpers for part of this stretch. On the last day we saw two people vomiting violently, one in a corridor and the other in a bar... and now my 7year old seemsto have the same symptoms and is lying on our couch! Unfortunately, in all, the few things which we found as issues really put a dint in our vacation, and although you can’t please everyone all of the time, there were quite a few disappointed passengers both with and without children who said they wouldn’t be returning. Because of illness, I had not cruised for two years. My last cruise before this one was on Princess in the Caribbean. We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and our prior good experience with Princess. Massive cost cutting is going on. A very small thing sums up the Princess present attitude. Princess corporate has told its waiters to conserve butter. We had a table for four. Only three pieces of butter were provided. It became a joke during the cruise getting three pieces and having to ask for a fourth piece. Princess' buffet has been dramatically reduced in both choice and quality. In the past, the dining room was open for lunch every day. Now, the dining room is only open on sea days for lunch. Very few activities were available on sea days. The evening dinner menu has been seriously cut both for quality and quantity. In the past, you could opt for steak at any dinner. The steak has been replaced by hamburger. We had only one port talk during the entire cruise. All the other talks were canned video in your room. The shore excursions were significantly over priced. I got the same or better excursion on Viator for 2/3 the cost of Princess. I don't even know what my cruise director looked like. There was evidence of differed maintenance all over the ship. My balcony door lock was broken during the entire cruise. On the plus side, the room was clean, the steward was great, our dinning room servers were very good. Be aware - Don't rely upon Princess' past reputation. It is becoming more and more difficult to distinguish Princess from Carnival. Read Less

The Norwegian Fjords have been on my bucket list and did not disappoint. The itinerary was absolutely gorgeous and if it wasn't for that, this cruise would be getting a much lower rating. The cabin was small and tired. This ship is due a major overhaul. Specifically little things like better outlets and charging ports for the number of devices we are all carrying these days. In-cabin entertainment was also limited and the ability to plug your own device into the TV to watch pre-recorded shows would be a nice amenity. We could get to an open input but the TV is preprogrammed so that you cannot change inputs and are forced to watch the Princess stuff. Our chair was completely broken (I completely fell through it when I first sat down) but was fixed quickly. The demographic on this cruise was VERY old and it made traveling with a teenager a little difficult although he doesn't complain, he was bored on-board. Luckily we had 11 stops so we got off fairly often. Too bad the shore excursions were so astronomically expensive or we would have done more. Also, the shore excursions seemed to rush from one attraction to another never giving you a chance to explore in any depth. All the on-board entertainment seemed to be geared for people 75+. You've got to mix it up a little. Not everyone is into big bands, show tunes, and stuff from the 1960s and earlier. I'm in my 50s and was simply flabbergasted at the lack of entertainment for even my generation, much less anyone younger. The real disappointment however was the food. This was by-far the worst food I've experienced on a cruise. (I've been on 6) The Horizon was awful and had no variety at all. Every piece of beef we had on this ship (even in Sterling Steakhouse) was overcooked and tough as leather. Sabatini's was the only really great meal we had. The pizza place in the Piazza was decent also. We've always had great food when it was an Italian or French food services crew but I think this one was British. I'm not sure if that had something to do with it but the food was bland, under-seasoned and every piece of bread was hard as a rock. Overall, service was top-notch and the crew treated us great. We had a very good time despite the short-comings compared to other cruises. One thing I have to note though is that Princess has gotten out of hand with the "nickel & diming" and charging extra for every little thing. Charging extra for things like regular coffee is no longer acceptable when I can stay in virtually any cheap motel worldwide and get free coffee. A cruise should be virtually all-inclusive for the amount we are paying. Bottom line: The destination was amazing and fun but the ship & crew need to be improved Read Less

We chose this cruise because of its itinerary. The ship was very warm throughout the entire trip in all areas including our stateroom. Our stateroom was like being in a cave. The food in the Horizon Buffet started to repeat after the third day of the cruise. The choices of the main dishes in the dining room were limited with little choices. In the port located in La Harve, France, we chose the excursion to the Eiffel Tower and the Lourve Museum. We spent more time on the motorcoach than at both destinations. There was a lot of traffic on the way back to the ship. The tour guide rather speak to her friends on the phone rather than to attend to the needs of her guests aboard the motor coach. We spent 4 hours on the bus on the way back to the ship without a stop to use the restroom or to stretch our legs. They were more worried about making it back to the ship before it left the port. The food served at the restaurant during this excursion was sub par. The location of the restaurant was much better than the food that was served. The food was dry and the dessert was sour. The total amount of time spent on the motor coach was 6.5 hours. One morning at the Horizon Buffet, my wife was assaulted verbally and physically by another guest. The staff at the Horizon Buffet did not know what to do to stop the incident from escalating or what to do resolve the issue. Training is needed for the staff to better assist when things like this occur in public places. They just turned a "blind eye." This incident put a real damper on the rest our cruise. We were really looking forward to our cruise and left very disappointed. Read Less

The ship payed no attention to details. The staff in general was not friendly. The food was mediocre at best. The ports were amazing and made the ship tolerable. We had to miss one port because of the storm so that was disappointing but understandable. Ireland and Scotland were amazing. We did independent tours which I highly recommend. It was just our group and the guide. It made for so much more information.. the weather was warm for the time of year. We never had rain which is unusual for the area. It allowed us to do more exploring. The tour guides were great about recommending little out of the way spots to try new food and some great whiskey. I am now a whiskey fan! Next time we might try another ship. Our room steward was wonderful. The other employees were not friendly, especially in the buffet area. I think they deliberately made that coffee bad so you would have to go down stairs to get a cup. Toward the end, people, were just getting there own drinks. Read Less

This was my first Princess cruise and it will probably be my last. The food was extremely disappointing both in the dining rooms and the buffet. There is only one memorable dish I had in the dining room, on the first night the Red Snapper Mojito Ceviche which was very good and different than what I've had on other ships. The rest of the dishes were very pedestrian and lacked both creativity and variety. One of the things I like about cruising is having the experience of eating well every night and that never happened on this cruise. Other experienced Princess cruisers said this was the worst Princess food they have had on a cruise. The buffet served very similar food every night. The food was generally boring and lacked flavor or was too salty. The meats were generally overcooked and dried out. Even if the meat looked good while it was being served it often dried out shortly after getting it to a table to eat. The only reliably good food at the buffet was the Indian food which was always flavorful and well spiced with a nice little kick. I would say the best food night on the ship was the Indian night in the buffet. The other issue I had was customer service. We had a problem with our cabin that I'll expand on in the cabin review. We brought it up on the first day and they gave us a reasonable explanation. Then the second day it happened again and it happened an additional three (four for me because my wife did not experience it the last time I did) times during the cruise. The third time we reported it I finally had a a supervisor come to the cabin and he agreed the issue was happening and would investigate. It happened twice more for me but was eventually resolved. With that number of reports and experiences I would have expected some sort of compensation for our inconvenience and negative experiences. However none was ever extended and the apologies seemed rather weak. Then the battery ran out on our room door and it took two visits from a supervisor and 20 minutes before we were able to get into our room. The supervisor who visited first didn't have the door key even though they were told we couldn't get into the room. The front desk didn't know that batteries sometimes run out and they replaced my ship card even though the card was good when they checked it. They should know that if that happens it's likely the battery and should send someone up immediately with an entry key and a replacement battery. Getting off the ship in Dublin was a mess because the ship docked in a place we couldn't walk to someplace to get a cab and the lines for the shuttles were horrible. I met someone who was still waiting to get off 50 minutes after getting his shuttle ticket. We eventually found out that there were a limited number of taxis waiting for people to get of and we took one of those and were able to bypass the wait. I didn't like the fact that the ship does not have a forward facing lounge/bar because that's where we like to hang out on ships. I also didn't like that there wasn't a promenade deck where you could walk all the way around the ship or almost all the way around. The closest thing they had was the walking/jogging track that took up a portion of the 17th floor but it didn't go all the way around the ship. If I do try Princess I won't be taking a ship in this class unless there is a deal that makes it too good to skip the trip. Read Less

We choose this cruise because of the itinerary "British Isles". Pros: -very nice decoration, looks very luxurious -very nice itinerary, only 2 days at sea -excellent cabin maintenance - dining menu has a nice selection of appetizers and main dish even if some nights we didn't find anything we would like ... mater of taste, doesn't t mean it wasn't good - nice selection of entertainment every night different, everyone will find something interesting, we had a "beattlenight" which got very popular - cafeteria offers a nice selection of hot and cold food .. everyone should find something - pizza and hamburgers near the pool is great Con's -I cannot find the words to describe how bad was embarkation and disembarkation in EVERY PORT,.. it was the worst procedure we ever experimented across all the cruises we've been. For example it took 2 hours to get off in Dublin" unacceptable" .... specially when you look at the time allocated to visit a large town like Dublin and remove 2 hours ....Getting back on the ship is a joke ... the "paper polices" take their job too seriously ....searching to find a bottle of alcool you may try to bring on board ....as if it would jeopardize the security on board ... they are the cause of the main bottle neck -We didn't feel at ease in the dining room, the staff is very polite, efficient but there was no "fizz" we felt like we were strangers. So we went to the cafeteria half the time.which suited us well Read Less

This is my 3 rd time with Princess and it will be my last!!! The shows that Princess put on is not very good. One time there was Opera one night. The guest entertainers was better. Unfortunately the entertainer who preform from Vegas was only 30 minutes long. I found this very short. The other people was good. IT seems that all I did on the ship was waiting in lines for dinner (open dinning), passenger services, and etc. The room service was fast. The meals for the most part was good. The buffet was not as good as the dining rooms unless you go to breakfast there. The ports was ok found them to be VERY EXPENSIVE booking thru Princess found the doing your own is much cheaper Usually they have people around the ship will offer it much CHEAPER than what Princess would offer..I cancelled one of my one of my shore excursions going to Paris because you spent more time one traveling to Paris than you would being in Paris!! I called Princess they inform me that it will take 4-6 weeks to get my money back!! They are quick to charge people not very fast to return my money! I found this very annoying. Read Less

We chose the cruise based upon the itinerary, as this included LeHarve, as we wanted to go to Normandy. Unfortunately, there was a port strike and we couldn't dock there. That being said, we had heard very nice things about Princess, so we decided to try them. We have been loyal to Celebrity and Holland America. From the boarding process, to disembarkation, one would have thought this was their first cruise venture. The ship was very difficult to navigate until one figured out the layout. We were surprised that the dining rooms were not open for breakfast or lunch (especially on sea days) requiring us to go to the buffet which on most ships is quite the zoo, The entertainment on-board was average at best. We went to several shows but truly enjoyed the 'Princess Production' shows....well done and well choreographed. The lack of entertainment around the sip was surprising...we always book the late dinner and expected there to be a lounge with some music to enjoy a drink before dinner. If there was one, we could not find it. We had a nice table in the Palm Dining Room, however, our server was overwhelmed (in our opinion). The food was average to poor at best with very few selections. One night our server dropped food on my wife and the response was nil...no concern for her well being or stained clothes. We tried a 'specialty restaurant,' their idea of a New England Clambake experience. The food and service were awful and we walked out halfway through our meal. One highlight was the Vines Bar and their staff...that was our 'go to' place, yet they continually were out of many things on the wine list. I could go on and on, but I think you get the jist of our experience. We spoke with many long time Princess cruisers who shared their frustrations and disappointments with this cruise. We were underwhelmed and truly disappointed with Princess. Someone needs to review their current business model and make significant changes throughout the organization. Last trip with them...we will stick with what we know and what we like. When spending several thousand dollars on a vacation, one expects better service, better food and an overall better experience!
