I’m not even sure where to begin with this review as I’ve never felt compelled to leave such negative feedback about a cruise, let alone whilst I’m still on the ship! A bit about me first, I’m 31 and considered ‘quite young’ to be passionate about cruising however this most recent cruise (which I am still currently onboard) Majestic Princess is my 9th cruise in all, 4th on Princess. Other lines I’ve enjoyed time with have included Cunard, Holland America & Royal Caribbean. I consider myself a ship enthusiast, I love the history of passenger shipping hence what draws me to modern day cruises. I’ve always been such a strong advocate of cruising and have become known in my circle as ‘the cruise guy’, so I’m often helping friends book their first cruises after telling them of my fantastic experiences. We decided to book Majestic Princess departing Sydney, February 4th for an 8 day trip around Tasmania. We also asked my parents to join us onboard for the trip which they agreed. This is their second cruise, they first cruised 4 years ago on the Golden Princess and absolutely loved it. I chose Majestic because of how new it is and it looks great in Princesses marketing campaigns. Unfortunately that’s about the only positives I have to say. I truly hate to sound like one of those people who just complain about everything but like I said, I’ve never felt this way about any cruise before as I love cruising. I just feel that based on this experience, Princess have completely turned me off any future cruises with them and certainly any ever again on Majestic, maybe even any ship in the Carnival Corp Fleet?. I’m a realist, I know the world isn’t perfect and I’m a very understanding and polite person. To be honest, even on past cruises when there have been negatives, I’ve completely brushed them under the rug due to my passion for ships, I’ve made excuses for cruise lines but I’m not doing that this time. It’s time to point out the flaws so that others can be truly informed about the current state of Princess Cruises. Embarkation: The quickest embarking process I’ve ever experienced which was great and certainly helped fuel the excitement of our trip! We were onboard within 10 minutes of arriving to the terminal. They lost my mums suitcase which she got quite worried about, being so new to cruising this is understandable. I tried to calm the situation by telling her it will turn up soon and to wait however eventually she had to go down to the guest services desk and ask after it. To which she then had to find it herself out of a pile of ‘missing bags’. She was also told by a staff member ‘why are you worrying it’s not a big deal.’ When she was worried about it. My fathers brand new suitcase also arrived to the room with one of the wheels snapped off almost fully. He then stayed up till 3am the first night trying to repair it himself using my mums eyebrow tweezers as a screw driver in their mini suite. Stateroom: Mini suite A226. I’ve only ever travelled in suites or ‘mini/junior suites’ so the room was as expected however, compared to Golden Princess and other ships I’ve sailed, Majestic Princess mini suites are not the greatest. Certainly the smallest balcony I’ve ever had, seriously it’s about 1m deep? The layout is extremely similar to the Grand Class ships but slightly updated. I prefer the older version. The bathrooms are also small for a suite and really should have been addressed when designing this new class of ship. The toilet in the suite was acting a bit strange from when we boarded. It often wouldn’t flush properly or would take a minute after pushing the button to then flush. Eventually it stopped working completely mid cruise and had to be fixed. The bed is not comfortable at all. I read so many reviews saying how good the beds are, really!? My plush mattress at home is way more comfortable. The ship: Yes she’s a pretty ship, the decor and the colour scheme inside is very contemporary and nice. Layout is shocking, I absolutely cannot stand everything being focussed around the Piazza area. For such a grand, lovely space, I was sick of it by day two. Deck areas are nice with lots of couches and lounges and the pools and spas all great however, the Enclave area is not fully functional, one of the saunas doesn’t work and not all the jets in the pool are working. Not something I would normally complain about, however when are these cruise lines going to question whether it is right to charge passengers full price to use these facilities that are not fully operational or as promised? That’s wrong. I’ll also note that the hull is very rusty and dirty and is in need of painting. Obviously this is hard on a ship and I get it takes time etc but have some pride in the ships external appearance. It says a lot about the standards onboard. Staff/service: This is the major let down of this ship, I can honestly say I’ve never experienced such an uninspiring, careless, unhappy mob of workers on a ship, the attitude of the staff have been the biggest let down. This ship has such a strange vibe, it just doesn’t feel right onboard. None of the staff are warm & friendly. Everyone seems pained to be working onboard and every simple request eg; ‘Hello, how are you today? Can I please buy a drink..?’ You are made to feel like you have bothered them. Even if they are completely not doing anything or serving anyone else at all. To be honest, I was confused as to whether the staff were all just on holiday because they all seem to just loiter around talking to each other and ignoring passengers. Restaurant staff, unprofessional and rude with no idea about the food or drinks or basic manners such as apologising when your meal arrives after everyone else at the table has finished eating there’s, this included the waiters in the Chops Grill paid restaurant who basically were too busy to even ensure we had a pleasant experience. We felt bad for even being there. Bar staff all shocking and no customer service skills at all. Not even general politeness such as ‘Hello, how are you?’ or recognition of you after constantly seeing the same bar person day after day. To be honest I’ve spent more time saying hello and asking how staff are than any of them have with me. Spa staff (after paying $150 to attended the Enclave daily) never even look up from the desk when we arrive to go in, it’s actually become quite amusing now as I’m being extra super friendly above what I normally am just to see if it makes them change their tune, no luck. They can barely look at us or say more than a grunt. Don’t expect to be served on deck either if you are in one of the deck spas. We jumped in one to watch the daily movie on the outdoor screen at night, we never got asked once whether we wanted a drink and when I flagged down two girls standing near by, they gave me the most horrible look as if I have bothered them. Do these staff even want to make any money for Princess anymore!? It seems when you want a drink no one cares, when you’re willing spend hundreds on drinks and have a good night/day, no one cares. The Captain & cruise director, who? Never seen them or felt engaged by either, unlike other ships where you often see them out and about ensuring passengers are enjoying themselves. In fact, all ‘management’ are hidden, good luck finding any of them. Room attendant is friendly enough when we pass him in the hall however, he’s cleaning skills are next to none. There are still items in the room left over from the previous guests such as an asthma puffer that was in the bathroom and is yet to be removed. Our used pool towels not removed or empty bottles. He also leaves the room in total darkness every night and just throws the chocolates on the bed and leaves them wherever they land. My parents have a different steward and apparently she is lovely though and does a great job. The culture with the staff on this ship is awful, I work in Customer Service myself so I’m very aware of the lack of standards which I can assure you start at the top and work their way down through the staff. The way the staff even carry themselves and stand shows the lack of care factor. I’m shocked managers don’t also see this but maybe they do and this is apparently acceptable? Entertainment/atmosphere: Another Major let down. Where is the atmosphere!? I’ve never been on such a dull cruise.. When we left Sydney harbour at 6:45 on a beautiful Australian summers evening the band played for 15 minutes before they were removed and the 7 o’clock outdoor movie began which completely cleared the deck. What a weird thing to do on the first evening of the cruise when passengers expect a sail away party. Being the first night of the cruise it really set the tone for what was ahead. The band have not been up on deck since! No matter how lovely the weather is, speaking of weather, so far we have been blessed with beautiful smooth sailing and lovely days so I’m not sure why there is nothing happening on deck during the days/nights other than the movie which probably gets about 10 people per viewing. I think one movie at night would be fine and more attention should be paid to entertaining guests by the pool with music etc. Most entertainment takes place in the Piazza, which is so weird. The Piazza has specialty restaurants and bars off it so if you’re trying to enjoy a nice meal or a classy drink, you’ll have to put up with the noise coming from the Piazza. But don’t worry, everything pretty much stops at 10pm. Don’t expect to be doing anything after that time, it’s all basically shut down. There is no night club on this ship for night owls or people looking to have a good late night dance on their holidays.. Ridiculous. There are so many people wondering around after 10pm unsure of what to do but not wanting to go to bed, but you basically have no other option. Tonight we arrived in Hobart on a special public holiday where there were fireworks we could see from the ship. The captain mentioned this during the day and do you think the ship still did anything special for the event? Nope, once the fireworks were done they shut everything down outside and everyone went back in. They even turned the big TV off. 10pm. This entertainment director needs to be fired! Food: I personally feel the standards have dropped for Princess. Menus are uninspiring and dishes made with no love. Desserts especially have been a big let down as they’re so boring and almost child like food. Jelly in the main dining room as one of the four desert options, the others being bread and butter pudding, ice cream or a lime tart. We were also not impressed with Chops Grill having had such a wonderful meal on our last Princess cruise (Golden Princess 2 years ago) we were looking forward to a high end feed. The food was average to poor along with the service. To be honest, a waste of $35 per person. I was asked how I wanted my steak, medium/rare and I received well done. Really, at a steak restaurant?. Room service menu is also the exact same menu they’ve had for 10+ years.. Apparently they can’t think of anything else. Breakfast in room is only continental, so don’t expect any eggs/bacon in bed. I also wanted to note that if you’re watching the late night movie under the stars that starts usually around 9:30 the grill and noodle bars on deck shut at 10pm sharp (NO EXCEPTIONS) so if you feel like a snack half way through the movie, too bad. Why wouldn’t you keep them open to match the movie running time? Ps: don’t expect drink service during the movie and don’t do what we did and sit in a spa to watch the movie. They won’t come over to you, you will have to get out to order drinks. Tender service: This is actually what compelled me to review this cruise. This was the straw that broke the camels back so to speak. We had one tendered port on this cruise and that was at Port Arthur. What an absolute joke that whole experience was. It started off fine, tenders leaving the ship from around 7:30am, we decided to leave for shore around 11am which we thought was good as we didn’t have to wait to get on a tender, we got on one almost straight away, then from that moment the issues became clear. After leaving the ships side, we were still on the tender 1hr later waiting to dock at the shore! The trip to the shore itself took around 5-10 minutes however they were only docking one tender at a time at a dock that was also shared by other boats doing tours of the harbour from Port Arthur. We sat there in the water for an hour waiting to dock, there were 4 tenders at once doing as we were. When it was our turn to dock, we noticed the horrifically long line of guests waiting to get back on tenders to come back to the ship! I actually took photos which I have included below, the line must have been 300m long, we couldn’t see the end of it. It looked like an evacuation but no, it was just Princesses complete mismanagement of the situation docking one tender at a time for 3500 guests. We decided to not even get off the tender and take it straight back to the ship due to how hectic the situation looked. My parents were on the tender in front of us and waited as long as we did to dock, it also took their driver 6 attempts to dock their tender correctly. In perfectly calm and flat waters. They then got off the tender (not knowing they could stay on) and jumped straight back in the line to get a tender back to the ship as they were worried they would have to wait so long. It took them 1hr of waiting in line to get back on a tender. So all in all they spent nearly 3hrs to tender to shore and come straight back. We literally missed Port Arthur, because of how horrible the experience was. There was no apologies or acknowledgement of what was happening. No mention from any of the staff that the wait times had blown out, no mention from the captain when we departed Port Arthur at the end of the day, nothing. Not even a free apology from anyone... What on earth has happened to Princess Cruises? I guess I will leave my review there. As I said, I know the world isn’t perfect and I know that some people will just find anything to complain about but I am not that person. I consider myself an advocate of the cruise industry however, after this experience I am even questioning now whether I will ever cruise again. I know my parents will not, after such a positive first cruise with Princess, their second cruise has been a nightmare and I doubt they will return. We confronted the duty manager today at the Guest Services desk about our concerns and experience in a very polite and collected way and would you believe, he agreed with all criticisms and was not only shocked by some but was well aware of most as he himself has seen it with his own eyes but he had also had a number of complaints on this cruise. I wanted to leave this review because although I love cruising, I understand how big business works and as customers, we are not doing ourselves any favours by not exposing the negative truths! I feel too many cruise passengers just stay silent and put up with poor cruises and I think that is wrong. These cruises are not cheap, you are promised the world and yet they can blatantly fail to deliver, take your money, kick you off at the end and take on the next lot.. It’s just not right. I feel Princess, perhaps all of Carnival Cruise Corp to be honest have a new attitude of ‘Oh well, near enough is good enough..’ well we as paying guests should not accept that. We are spending big money on these cruises and we also have a choice as to whether we even cruise or not and I feel like we are being taken advantage of. Perhaps the cruise industry has gotten too big for its boots and has lost touch with reality? Well if this is the acceptable standard, I can assure them that there won’t be a cruise industry in the not too distant future as the younger set, the cruises of tomorrow will take their money elsewhere when they wish to holiday. I’m sorry for such a long and negative review but I felt compelled to share as this particular cruise on Majestic Princess has completely ruined my faith in cruising. Only 3 more sleeps and we can get off and go home! What a horrible mindset to be in whilst you’re on holiday. I’m so disappointed by this cruise that I actually feel upset that we even came and I feel stupid for wasting our money. Read Less

From start to finish, this cruise was so much fun! Check-in was a breeze. Our luggage was delivered quickly. We went right to dinner. There was top-notch entertainment every night. If you were bored, it was your own fault. There is so much to do in this ship. The Crown Grill steakhouse was fabulous. The filet mignon, New York Strip steaks and Porterhouse steaks were the best we've ever had. All the food was delicious everywhere on the ship. The staff was super friendly and aimed to please. The entertainment was terrific! There are different shows every night of Broadway quality. The comedian was hysterical and gave a clean show. I had to buy his DVD. Lotus Spa and and it's Enclave were phenomenal. We had so much fun! I wish we could have stayed another week. They couldn't do enough to make us happy. I can't wait to cruise with Princess again. Princess puts on one HELL of a show for an entire week. We cruised the Regal Princess, had 3 stops to Princess Cays, St. Thomas and St. Maarten. Everything was top quality, from the service to the food (so much to eat!!) to the entertainment. The balcony stateroom was very clean, and the room attendant cleaned it twice a day. The Medallion is a great part of the cruise, no cash or credit card needed, makes checking in/out such a simple process, and even opens your cabin door (no key card needed). I would recommend to anyone who is looking to be pampered for a week, no worries about anything, and enjoy a huge selection of events throughout the week, from morning to late night. Watching full length movies at night "under the stars" on the theater-sized screen on the top deck was a delightful experience. The Staff (from the stateroom attendant to the waiters in dining room) is fantastic, always pleasant and making sure we were always comfortable and taken care of. If you get a chance to sail with Princess, I give it 2 HUGE thumbs up! The Regal is more of an older-crowd (seniors/retirees) and we are in our 40's, but didn't make a difference. We still met some younger and older couples and had a great time! Read Less

On the good side, the staff or crew was very friendly and courteous. Food was good as well as entertainment. On the bad: 1) the wait to board the cruise was ridiculous 2) once in our room, hours later, we found a dirty bathroom and carpeting, beds not put together. We complained. 3) went to wait until the room was cleaned, beds put together, carpet vacuumed and were told the room was sanitizer but carpet would be shampooed when at the next port. It never was. 4) there was a second set of bunkbeds folded against the wall, right under the left and right side of our bed, every time we got up from the bed we bumped our heads until we got used to them, except at night when waking to go to the bathroom. 5) when we complained We were told we would be moved, never happened. 6) the entire ship was very cold but guess that's to prevent viruses. However, that should be told in advance for those who packed to go to warm climates! 7) tours where expensive as where salon services and photos. Read Less

Embarkation in terminal 21 was terrible. No consideration for preferred guests. A very slow cattle call. Cabin M321 on deck 15 was very noisy just below the Lido area. Won't stay there again. Sail away parties are weak. Bring back the Love Boat 50th anniversary party, that was great! Food great, service good. Ports very nice. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Could use a bit more help in the Wheelhouse bar, every night waited for a drink 8-10 minutes for a drink. You need to enforce the dress code in the dinning rooms. Too many in shorts, tee shirts and flip flops every night! Medallions are helpful but it would be great if there was just one app to use while on board. Wi-Fi is still very weak in many parts of the ship. Fun time and good music in Club 6. Bring back the live ROCK N ROLL band that was made up of your in house crew members. They were great! The Ultimate Ship Tour was the BEST ****! Read Less

This is a cruise ship for the Older Generation, most of the passengers were 70 yrs and up, with a lot of wheelie walkers etc, I am not belittling anyone just stating how it was. The cruise itself was fantastic, the food was top notch, the staff from the Captain down were so friendly and helpful, the cabins are a bit on the small side (we had an inside cabin), the coffee was disgusting, could not get a decent coffee anywhere on board. The entertainment was great, the Bingo is really expensive and the prizes were a bit lousy, compared to other cruises I have been on. The ship itself is old but well maintained, and very clean. The beds are super comfortable, and the showers are really good. Overall the destination was really good ,we went to Tasmania, and had 3 stops (Burnie, Hobart and Port Arthur) plus cruised past the Freycinet Peninsula, just be aware Tasmania has funny weather patterns we had both hot and cold, so have to pack a bit of all weather gear. All in all an enjoyable cruise, but not really for families, as there is limited activities for the younger generation. Read Less

On a big cruise ship you don't get to go off the ship onto the ice, but the cost is about a third of the price, so we thought we'd try seeing Antarctica this way and if we really needed to touch the ice, we could do the expedition ship in a few years. We were not disappointed. Captain McBain took us to places not even on the itinerary, and we had a blast doing them. We got to within a couple of hundred feet from the continent so we were more than happy to stay warm in the luxurious surroundings (compared to the expedition ships down there) and pop outside as we needed to, to take photos and just watch the beauty and to steal a line from the iconic Aussie movie 'The Castle', to watch 'the serenity of it all"! Princess did a fantastic job of entertaining us and showing us the continent. We were lucky to have had calm seas both ways on the Drake Passage and only the first day was foggy in Antarctica (cleared up mid afternoon and from then on it was great). Embarkation in Buenos Airs, once inside away from the traffic (it was raining) was smooth, disembarkation in Santiago also went smooth. Rough seas up the Chile coast meant we popped in and out of their Inside Passage, so as a bonus we got to see some spectacular Chilean Patagonia glaciers and scenery (and green stuff - maybe grass???) Our balcony cabin was great - our first time on deck 12 (cabin A619) and we thoroughly enjoyed the different (higher) perspective this gives - we normally cruise on deck 9. Tim our room steward was attentive and patient when we stayed on our balcony all mornings some Antarctica days - we offered for him to skip our room but he always cleaned it twice daily and always with a smile. Then again we've never had a bad cabin steward on Princess (14th Princess cruise but 25th overall - only new to cruising and have only been doing it for 5 years). Entertainment was more guests than the Princess singers and dancers, although we saw their show Encore for the third time on the third ship and we would be happy to watch this show on every cruise - its that good. On the Bayou was a great show they performed too. 3 guest lecturers were absolutely brilliant, as were the Ice Pilots. One poor comedian Steve Bruner had to compete with the American Superbowl one night and the Captain's free cocktail party on the other night. But those that missed his two shows missed some of the best comedy we've seen in a long time. Thanks for the memories! Minimal shore excursions this cruise - Falkland Islands were the best and I'm glad i booked early and we saw the Gentoo penguins @ Bluff Cove - worth every cent! Montevideo and Santiago okay - Punta Arenas we docked on a Sunday and there was hardly anything to do really. Ushuaia was good (train ride excursion) and had great souvenir shops - plus i bought a cheap ($45USD) big suitcase there for all my purchases. If i knew the Drake Passage was as calm as we had it, i'd book this cruise again for next year. i did not speak to any person on that cruise who didn't consider Captain Todd McBain the reason why the cruise was spectacular. And the ice pilot Bob said on the last day in his summary of the cruise the captain would take us places not on the itinerary (less icebergs than normal so we could go further than they have ever been able to on such a big ship), saying 'they'll get a kick outta this' or 'they're gonna love this'. Thank you captain - more captains should be like you and realise you guys have the capacity to make or break our holidays. Read Less

Entertainment Staff appear to go through the motions and do the minimum that is required. i think i spotted the cruise director once off stage, that was when he was recording in his private studio (Live) That was a joke Ship entertainment is equal to a Thai karaoke bar. There is no specific late night club, the ship is well equipped but badly used. The Pacific is a beautiful area we do not need to visit the rectum of the pacific. We sailed on the majestic princess to New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji from Sydney. Embarkation was smooth, super quick and easy. Best we have seen yet. The ship itself is amazing, so so big. Are room wasn’t ready yet but that was alright, we went and purchased our drink packages and headed to lunch in the marketplace, the marketplace was a bit crazy and hard to find a seat for the first probably 2 days, after that people seem to eat at different times or used a lot of the other options available, eg: burgers, pizza, other restaurants, as it seem to settle down after a couple of days and we had no problems finding a seat. After lunch we explored the ship, how amazing this ship is. My favourite place where I spent a lot of time during the 14 night cruise was the hollywood club. Cool and peaceful (no children aloud in this area). We finally went to check out our room which was a balcony room, midship on the 15th floor (marina deck) amazing views from here. Although small ( compared to the mini suite we had last time) it was all that we needed and made ourselves at home for the next 2 weeks. Emergency training conducted and we were off to the sail away party. We were at sea for the first 2 days and this is where we first became disappointed with the activities/ entertainment staff. I thought at first that maybe we had just been super lucky on our first 2 cruises to get amazing entertainment teams that were funny and well ENTERTAINING, that made you want to go to everything on offer as you knew you were going to have a great time and come away laughing as you never knew what they were going to get up to. But as the cruise went on and the more we spoke to other guest we soon realised that NO it wasn’t just as, The entertainment team on this cruise were not as good as on other ships, (No I shouldn’t say not as good, as at times they could be funny and entertaining) but I really don’t know how to explain it, we and others were just really disappointed with what was on offer and things that you did go to were just ok. As I heard one guest say, we (the guests) have to provide our own entertainment on this cruise. Not good enough for the money we pay. Other then that we still had a great time, other entertainment such as the performances in the theatre, and the musicians in the piazza were excellent. The destinations we visited were amazing and well worth the visit. The tenders on this ship are new, spacious and much easier to get on and off. Housekeeping as per usual - amazing, these people do not get paid enough for what they do, our steward Eric, couldn’t do enough for us. I paid to have access to the enclave in the lotus spa everyday. How amazing is this place, well worth the money - TIP - buy the package on the first day when they are doing the tours through the spa, you get it cheaper. Getting back to the entertainment, 2 things we did look forward to and I did hear other guest say the same thing was the Australia Day party, fantastic idea but why would you have it at 9:45 at night after people have been on shore all day. I would of loved to go but after a full on shore excursion that day I was exhausted as I’m sure other were too. Then came the Latin dance party, another great idea, again late at night, for what reason I do not know. This one I did stay up for, it started, the professional dancers and singers from princess came out to perform, performed one song, it started to rain so they went off. Now fair enough I wouldn’t want to see them get hurt, however it rained for a couple of minutes and then it was alright for the guests to get up and dance on the dance floor so why couldn’t the others come back and finish there performance. A lot of disappointed people soon went back to there rooms or on to other things. Finally the time came to disembark back in Sydney, I know it sounds like I didn’t have the best time on this cruise but I still absolutely had a great time just a little disappointed. I still as always never want to get off, I could so live on a cruiseship and have often dreamt of working on one (maybe one day I will ). Disembarkation was just as easy and smooth as embarkation and we headed off to our hotel just down the road for a few days site seeing in Sydney. I watched the ship sail away again that night wishing I was still on there. Read Less

Princess Lines sponsors the Concerts at Sea voyage which we have taken several years. It is well run by Harmon Travel and is a great value. Service was excellent and food was better than on previous Princess cruises. This was definitely an over 60 year old cruisers tour. Very few children, could count them on two hands in total. Employees and customers were all very helpful to disabled people who needed extra assistance moving throughout the ship. Dining room and cabin staff members were very professional and pleasant the entire trip. We have taken 8 cruises with Princess and several with other cruise lines and the quality of the food on the Princess Regal was much improved over other Princess cruises we have been on. The entertainment provided by the ship was very good. There were a number of different venues to choose from and the daily activity list had something for everyone who was in the target over 50 years old category. Would be a boring trip for kids and young adults. Not only were the activities on board aimed at the Grey Hair demographic but so were the ports of call that are all 'laid back' type of islands. Wanted to get away from cold in MN. Took Caribbean cruise for relaxation. Service was great as always. Food was good. Balcony cabin was good. Mattress was a bit uncomfortable. Excursions were fine. Recommend the sailboat race excursion in St Maarten or Cozumel. You are part of the racing crew. Entertainment was good. Comedians and magician were first rate. The ship entertainment team was very good. I really liked the production shows - Bravo and Born to Dance. Medallion was used on this cruise and it worked great. Used it to exit/return to ship, for all purchases, open cabin door, remotely order drinks, to find spouse on ship, to keep track of shipboard activities, .... Embarkation/disembarkation: Princess does this really well. The medallion made it even more efficient - eliminating need to check in to get cabin cards and take picture. Plan to take more cruises with Princess and hope Medallion is used on those. Read Less

The itinerary and date were selected for us by the special entertainment package we had purchased. Ports were adequate, although could have done without Princess Cays. Our cabin had a lingering stale smell, which was unusual for Princess. Didn't go away even with leaving deck doors open for fresh air most of the time. Stewards seemed puzzled. Might have been solved by carpet cleaning or just use of Febreze. The Regal Princess was newly refurbished and quite nice. However with all of the contemporary digital accessories there are still only plug in charging stations in the cabins. At least one USB port would have been helpful. Food selections and menus were wonderful, as always. Morning room service was fabulous so we could have coffee on the deck and watch the sunrise. Ship entertainment is still wonderful, although productions/programs are shorter. Availability and variety of entertainment and programs is a Princess plus! Read Less

We have been on close to 30 cruises, most on Princess. I was so excited about this cruise; I chose it for the ship, not the itinerary. It was so underwhelming and many shared our feelings. It's similar to the Regal & Royal but they are better. I must say Captain Tuvo was among the best. He was always being seen and had a great sense of humor. Our cruise director was also alot of fun as was the comedian. We had one production show and it was excellent but it seems we were cheated on the entertainment. The thing that totally amazed most people was no library. if you want a book, you go to guest services and get to pick from books left by passengers. The claim is people steal the books and Princess decided enough, I guess. As for dining, we have always had traditional seating but got stuck with my time dining. I'm not a fan because sitting with the same people and having the same waiters makes for a pleasant dining experience. Unlike Royal Carribbean, you cannot book the same table and time for every nite. You have to reserve each day and that means waiting on the phone and speaking to someone with poor english or arriving at 5:00. As for the food, the beef was excellent and the rest a matter of taste. Let me say the elevators are the worse! they will pass your floor several times, once when we were in it. And if that isn't annoying enough, when one finally stops, the rude people inside make no effort to make room; in fact, more than once I saw someone push the button to close the doors. Trust me, I can see when there is room. My husband and I both used a cane noone cared. I think with so many elevators, Princess should dedicate one to wheelchairs and walkers. I can't imagine how long they waited to get on. That brings me to, anyone who is familiar with Princess knows they mostly have an older crowd. I'd guess 60 - 80 years average. Children are rare. Princess could do more to accommodate the handicapped. For example, You won't find anything on their website telling you how to reserve a wheelchair for embarkation. I waited 45 min on the phone to reserve 2 chairs and the girl gave me the wrong info. Finally, our cabin. It looks exactly like the pictures. we had an obstructed balcony which wasn't all that obstructed. I love the closets on Princess as they are open and large. Plenty of room for clothes and luggage. The shower was larger than most with a ledge! The tv is on the wall and large. We had a phenomenal steward in Santhosh. First thing I always request is removal of the duvet and a blanket and sheet instead. And ice. He was most pleasant in accommodating any requests. One thing most people noticed was this ship is a bit noisy as in squeaks, etc. I should add, everyone working this ship is friendly and always smiling. Overall, this cruise wasn't cheap and if I had to recommend it, I'd say take the Royal or Regal instead. Read Less

My wife and I have multiple things to celebrate (35th anniversary, both healthy after medical scares, etc...) and decided that a two week cruise through the Panama Canal was just the ticket. We enjoyed everything about the cruise. Both embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our last 2 cruises were on RCL and the staff on those ships treated us like we were annoying if we asked for anything. On this trip on the Emerald, the staff treated us wonderfully, from the front desk to our steward, the dining room, and bar staff. We spent a lot of time at the back of the ship by Terrace Pool. The bartender and staff learned our names and called them out whenever we walked out onto the deck! We splurged more than normal on this cruise and had a mini-suite. We loved the extra room and spent quite a bit of time on the balcony. The only minor complaint would be that the couch in our room seemed quite old and uncomfortable. It should be replaced. The food was pretty good. I found it to be more of a variety than other cruises I've been on, but still got to be repeated too much on a 15 day cruise. But, we did not go hungry! We had some wonderful excursions, and the trip through the canal was awesome! The commentary offered was really great. We also met some really nice people from all over the world. All-in-all, we had a great 15 days! Read Less

I choose it because I would be in Aruba for my 75th birthday and I love Aruba. The age of the passengers was old old old. Not my cup of tea. I would not recommend princess if you want a younger crowd. They were also lacking in movie under the stars and some interesting activities on sea days and half port days. I understand that the ship is going in for another refurbishing in March. It needs it. I’ve been on 16 other princess cruises and I recommend doing the Royal, regal, or their newest ship as a lot more is offered. The explorers lounge had some great acts and games but never enough room for all the people. They should have used the fusion lounge as it is much bigger. Being out on deck I expected more from the movies under the stars and much time nothing was happening. Also, in the cabins there should be music stations for those wishing to just have some music without watching the tv screen. Read Less

I wanted to give Princess one more try, and I wanted to get out of town in January. The ship (I was told) is about to be sold to a different cruise line so that was the reason they have not done any major upkeep on it. The seats in the theater were frayed and did not sit properly. Some seats made you feel like you were about to slide off because they did not fully stay in the upright position. The bathrooms in the cabins need to be updated and the balcony cabin I had was smaller than I had expected. There was barely enough room on the balcony to put 2 small chairs and a small table. The entertainment was not the quality I have come to expect from other cruise lines and as the cruise progressed the food seemed to lose quality until at the end instead of fresh pineapple on the buffet it looked like a can of Dole pineapple slices. The crew was very nice and helpful and the specialty restaurants were very good. On future cruises they plan to include internet, beverage packages and so on to passengers but of course not on this one. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had cruised Princess to Alaska and had a very enjoyable experience. This cruise was slightly different. Our cabin steward was MIA for the 1st 2 days, apparently he was ill, but there was no one we could directly contact with issues. This was a 10 day cruise, 4 of which were at sea. Additionally, because of bad weather, we were unable to dock in one of our scheduled ports, making it 5 days at sea. The ship seemed crowded. Guests spent a lot of time inside because of the weather. Many people don't remove their used towels from the chairs and it leaves others wandering around wondering what is available. The deck crews should be on top of that more. The spa was okay. I had a facial and my husband and I had a couples massage. The massage was much better than the facial. The fitness center was a disappointment. While it is large and there are several treadmills, they are not available until 9:00 AM. Very disappointing. The entertainment was good, but when it is in a small venue, it is crowded and hard to get a seat. Back to back activities in these small venues creates a problem because people don't leave between activities. The food was good, our server, Victoria was wonderful. As a suite guest we were able to have breakfast in Sabatini's in the morning. The staff there was also great. Room service was average. Excursions: Cayman Island - we took a coast to coast bus tour. It was okay, didn't care for our driver and her uppity attitude. Cartagena - toured the old city and the San Felipe Fortress. It gets hot, make sure your tour is in the morning. Good tour guide, crappy bus, many many peddlers in the streets! Panama - canal locks were amazing. Domed car train ride not worth the money. Jamaica - toured the Rose Hall Great House - it was fine, finished with a short shopping trip to shops. Read Less

We have done several Caribbean cruises but had never visited the Panama Canal or Costa Rica. Princess is supposed to be a premium brand of Carnival but we were disappointed with the level of service in the dining rooms and the quality of food overall. Wait staff were not fluent in English and we had difficulty conversing with them. The ship was built in 2004 and it looked tired, even though it had recently been refreshed. We prevously cruised on Celebrity Summit and Infinity which are comparable in age and we found them to be much better overall. We had difficulty conversing with staff in the restaurants because their English was very poor. We expected Princess to be on a par with Celebrity but this was not the case. The dining staff on Celebrity were easier to understand and there were 3 people assigned to each table while there were 2 on Princess. Each Celebrity table had a wine sommalier to help with wine selection. They poured drinks at the table from a bottle shortly after you arrived while Princess staff (not sommalier) had to get each drink from the back, increasing wait times considerably. Read Less

I have never been on a cruise before and I came in with little to no expectations and a positive attitude. At first I was overwhelmed with amount of action going on and the small rooms, food etc. But after the initial first day, which was stressful because of flying and nothing with the Princess cruise line, everything worked out. Sure, we did not go on one of our port stops due to weather, but safety was the priorty and I understood that. Also, the staff was INCREDIBLE!! Everyone was so personal, kind and nice! Spoiled me rotten from such great service. Entertainment was great and the whole time I was enjoying, having a blast and was always satisfied with everything. And if at any point I had any issues, they were quickly resolved. The game shows and entertainment was too notch, they have things for kids, teens and in betweens. And obviously adults and older adults as well. We watched a movie outside and ate ice cream, I mean what could be better? So all in all, the best vacation of my life. I would totally reccomend. For a lot of people who complain on these forums, these people are natural complainers so I would take it with a grain of salt. I had an awesome time and would 100000 percent reccommend. Read Less

We wanted to visit some areas of NZ within the comfort of a cruise ship. We chose Princess as the itinerary suited the time we wanted to go. The interior of the ship was lovely. There had been a refurbishment in 2018. Lovely new carpets throughout and some new furniture. While we were on this cruise the Medallion was introduced. It was in the testing phase so we had to carry our cruise card as well. As you approached your cabin the sensor picked up that you were near and the door unlocked automatically. As this innovation takes off I can see many more positives. Sensor lights had been introduced into staterooms. When you got up in the night a little light at the bottom of the bedside table automatically came on as did the light in wardrobe area. The entertainment was very good. A young Irish band called ‘Emerald Tide’ had been employed by the ship for 4 months. They were excellent. Singing Irish folk songs and other popular contemporary songs. One of the girls in the band as performed Irish dancing ...she was very good. It was unfortunate that we were unable to visit Akaroa or Fiordland, however the weather conditions were not good .....nothing can be done about that though. Read Less

we have cruised with Princess many times We live close to the port and like this itinerary and the cruise price was very favorable. The ship is in tip top condition and we were looking forward to experiencing the new medallion set up onboard. The medallion made embarkation a breeze and everyone gave it 5 stars, you have to become ocean ready by uploading your details to Princess about three weeks prior to your cruise, then princess send you your medallion via FedEx and that’s it. The medallion allows you many more time saving tasks but too many to mention here. The entertainment was very enjoyable but there was a technical hitch and one of the new main shows was postponed and rescheduled and eventually cancelled for the performers safety. The food was very good with nice choices in all venues. The crew were friendly, attentive, efficient and hard working. I would recommend this cruise who would like a comfortable 7 day fun time or just for a rest. Read Less

Sky Princess Jan 11, 2020 cruise. Awesome and a beautiful ship. Pastels, tans, blues, green. Low maintenance construction. Chrome, stainless, anodized aluminum, PVC over the outside railings. Rubber gaskets for the windows, not calking, brass, wood of different varieties. All beautifully executed. Music just about everywhere, all the bingo and trivia you can handle. More than any other ship we were ever on. Casino has multitudes of new slots. We donated. Bingo was hosted by “Fortuna Luck” That is what she called herself. An excellent bingo host. Lots of fun. Rafel Urdaneta worked in the Casino and gave out the bingo cards and the pads. Could never do enough for everyone. Always helpful and a smile. The best deal was $69.00. You get the pad with 36 cards on it, a triple card for four games and a $5.00 scratch off. Last game, last day of the cruise cover all gave away over $2,700.00 won by 3 people. Over $900.00 each. Not us. 7 bingo sessions, not every day. Some twice a day. Trivia was done in a way all ships should do it. Deck 7 Live with a large screen. In large letters. Gives the Question and number. So even if the host has a heavy accent, you can easily read it. Every day was enjoyable. Slice pizza we did not care for. However Alfredo’s pizza and service was excellent. Our server Nipan Kalita was on the ball and always a smile. The steak house was no good and no service either. Terrible! First to be seated at 5:00PM. Decided no appetizer. Wanted to get to the 6:30PM show. Ordered the Filet Minion. 40 min. later it showed up. Steak and the mashed potatoes were warm and did not bring my asparagus. The waiter never returned to our table. Finally got the desert and left. 6:40PM. Never made it to the show. No excuse for that. By the way. The filet was on tough side, no flavor either. They need to learn from Alfredo’s. Carnival still has the very best at sea steak house. We no longer do the MDR. Only the buffet and the specialty restaurants. The buffet is super big. No lines and never a problem finding a table. Utensils are wrapped up in the napkin and on the tables. In the evening, it is like a restaurant. Place mats and stemmed glasses for water. Anyone will get your drink for you, even the bar. Kept the tables cleaned. The food itself could be hotter. However the variety was excellent. Quality was also excellent and the deserts were unbelievable. Not just cake. Comedian was very good, magician was excellent. Rock Opera was excellent. Had no real problems at all with the elevators. Just those that enjoy packing themselves in one that is already full. Our balcony state room E429 was very nice but, very small. Including the super small bath room. Shower was fine. Cruised on 30+ different ships. This was the smallest by far. Beds were very comfortable and our room steward Thomas from India, was up and above. The best we ever had. So all in all, a very enjoyable cruise with really no down side. Our first evening we had super rough seas and the coat hangers kept banging the open closet walls. You can see what I did to stop it in the picture. Put a towel over the hangers. The medallion worked fine. However the daily things to do before you take the cruise is not the same. It changes. So do not do what I did. Figure out what you want to do each day in advance. A waste of time. Do we recommend the Sky Princess.? We sure do. Read Less

Golden Princess is due for a refurbishment. Common areas aren’t bad but the cabins need work. The fun part about this ship’s configuration is that there are two separate areas for shows. Occasionally, we were able to see two interesting shows in one evening. Food: was good, never any issues. My wife is gluten intolerant and this was not a problem because she would order her meals a day ahead (thanks Plamen for your great service), they ware well prepared for this. We didn’t eat often at the buffet, but there seemed to be less choice than the previous Princess cruise that I went on. Shows: there was a good variety of good shows that we enjoyed. Wine: Princess no longer offers the wine bottle plan under which you could purchase a number of bottles ahead of time. Also, the price of wine at dinner has increased by a lot since our last cruise with Princess. It is definitely worth bringing bottles on board and paying a corking fee. Pool and deck: there are several pools one of which is closed in for cooler days. There is plenty of deck space to sit around the pools or away in quieter areas. Fitness area: the gym was well equiped with several machines of the same type. I rarely had to wait Washing machines: Golden Princess has rooms with washing machines dryers and irons for use by passengers. A great idea! Staff: the staff was great in every department, never any issues. All and all, a pretty good cruise despite the weather that caused the day of cruising in the fiords to be cancelled and the abnormally cooler weather for part of the itinirary. Getting to and from the port: we took a taxi to the port which went well and cost around $26 AU. Getting out of the port was a different story. They are poorly organized in Melbourne for taxis to bring people into town. After waiting an hour and seeing that taxis were only trickling in, we ended up walking to the tram station which was only a ten minute walk. Tickets for the tram can be purchased at the store/cafe close by for around $15 AU each. This included one day of use of the trams. The trams brings you to Souther Cross station in the CBD. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had not visited most of these ports yet and Princess is our primary cruise line. We also wanted to experience Sky Princess, since it's the newest ship we have ever cruised. We enjoyed it greatly. It's a beautiful ship. We had hired Victor Rosales of Mahahaul EcoTours for a day of birding in Costa Maya. We went to several different areas and saw some colorful species that were new to us. Victor also included a delicious lunch at a little beach-side cafe in Mahahual. He is well-trained, educated and experienced and speaks fluent English as well as his native Spanish. He also does other types of tours as well, specializing in small groups. I would be happy to use Victor again anytime. While in Cozumel, we took the Princess excursion to Tulum. Our tour guide, Marco Polo, was great and quite informative. While in Roatan, we contacted Jensen Wesley and he drove us to the Carambola Gardens as well as Sandy Bay where I was able to do some great snorkeling. We enjoyed being off the beaten track there so it was not crowded with people. Jensen was very helpful and we were lucky to connect with him. Sky Princess is a bit larger ship than we usually book but it did not feel crowded most of the time. However, anytime dining did have long waits if one went to dinner after about 6:00pm, which we usually do. Food in all venues was excellent. We did not use the specialty restaurants. Our balcony stateroom was super and even though quite forward, ship motion was very minimal. Captain Tuvo of Sky Princess is a real treat too. The fitness room is well equipped. The casino is good and has a computerized Texas Holdem table that made for some good poker games. The Medallion system worked well on board although we did not download the app for use on our phones. The ship's internet was the fastest we have ever used on a cruise. Read Less

Chose this cruise purely to sail through the Fjords of New Zeland and set up 1TB of memory on a brand new phone at huge expense to record it all.. We took a new $400 massager for pre existing ailments which got confiscated at embarkment. All meals are extremely sub par, tasteless and repetitive...hope you like pork..Bacon is always hard ..ALWAYS..The meals you pay for in the total price are terrible but if you want to eat a nice meal then add $35 and you get fantastic ,small but yummy lobster tail and a steak they try to convince you is fillet, although it's 8mm thick and tastes nothing like a fillet steak. Service is excellent..About 1 in 10 of the staff smile..those that do are wonderful others seem as if it's a burden.. Cups are ridiculously small.. Flavour of coffee tea and juices are ok. 24 hour food options are an absolute joke..saw many go, look and leave.. Everyone you spoke to onboard had negative things to say about the food quality and lack of decent selection to room service and 24 hour bar. We didn't dock at 1 port and also due to weather the captain turned the ship back and we never went to the Fjords.. 3 days at sea and room service had me waiting on the phone 20mins then it just hung up on me..this happened twice.. Room service soup portions are extremely tiny..it would take about 8 to fill my bowl at home. Beds and pillows are exquisite. Our room server is called Manu and is outstanding and extremely accommodating .. Toilet has blocked twice and not flushed about 8 times so far.. That was sooo embarrassing.. Internet has upgraded mid trip to the new beaut fast perfect medallion class..it is excellent.. Large t.v. is ok BUT you CANNOT IN ANY WAY stream your own content on it or connect your phone or tablet or laptop via Bluetooth, HDMI or any cable for that matter, or wifi.. You are stuck with the very very small option choices available...decent choices but so few of those.. I was looking forward to sitting in a heated spa and watching movies under the stars... Well they net off the pool and spas late afternoon and you CANNOT access them!! Was ghe whole point of the ship experience.. The entertainment is boring but I understand why as it caters to the elderly who are 95% of the passengers. Average age is 60's to 70's. First night comedian ,everybody said, got pity laughs..I knew most of the punchlines from his stolen material before he said them. Dance shows look like high school musicals and singers wouldn't get far on "the voice". Very average entertainment indeed. Showers are excellent for pressure and temperature control.. Ship presents well.. Hotdogs are great.. Pizzas are a joke as you only get 2 toppings and they are so plain and flavorless.. DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON A DRINKS PACKAGE.. Just to break even I would have to be able to drink 210 stubbies of beer in under a fortnight AND be able to go on all the shore excursions ..remember its only worth it if your gunna drink all day EVERY DAY. The shops sell everything at a huge markup ..one example is their binoculars which are $45 to $49 online are over $150. Captain said the pools were getting drained due to swell. The elevators take forever..the buttons to close the doors don't work.. The casino falsely posts the tables are $2 tables but forces you to make $10 minimum bets ..I am a very experienced casino player and have never seen a table say $2 minimum and have it explained as," That just means they are $2 chits but you have to use 5 of them minimum". They clearly have just began this facard as there were a few confused croupiers as well .. And the cherry on the top.. They added the princess logo as an extra place on the roulette table with 2 zeros..money hungry greedy casino that took any fun out of it. I love casinos..Avoid this one as they stacked the odds against the player far more than usual and as it's only during international waters that they are open, they are governed by NO LAWS.. People go on princess to get away from kids as we saw maybe 8 the whole ship coz there's nothing to do.. Bring your own entertainment As for destination ,it is the weather that determines at the last minute if you can go or not.. You pay for accomadation and food and there are no refunds.. I've had positives to say but mostly negitives.. 2 years planning 1 years saving 3 days in bed coz nuffin to do..here's an example of there onboard "entertainment" Went to a darts "tournament".. Loads of 'board out of our scones blokes showed up to play darts...were blokes ...love darts.. All wondering if its teams like pub darts.. Will it be 501?..Shanghai ? So excited... "Ok everybody put names down here and as I call your name throw 3 darts and go for highest score". .maybe highest score starts??...NO!!! Step up twice and add both scores together...done that.. Ok Joe Blo got highest score and is the winner...seeya folks.. I had 2 goes and that was the much anticipated "darts tournament". Everybody was dissapointed saying "is that it". But everything ends in "was that it?" Overpriced and underserved.. 11 grand we paid for 3 nice shore cruises nice scenery and crap food.. Read Less
