Friends told us Princess was a good cruise line so we were excited to try it! What a HUGE disappointment! The ship has broken engines so didn’t stop in 3 of our 6 ports! The staff was rude, food & entertainment quality were very poor. Our dining room waitress acted like we were bothering her & ignored us when we asked questions about the menu. She even told us she could give us a tablecloth when we mentioned that the air conditioning was cold in the dining room! We had a poor experience with the new Medallions. It took us 4 trips to guest services to get our room keys resolved! Be careful of the falling elevators and the lighting fixtures that fall from the ceiling near the cafe. The Crown should be named the Clown! The ship is in disrepair all over & not clean! Even with the 35 % offer they gave everyone, We will not be going on another Princess cruise. Read Less

I’ve enjoyed cruising on Crown Princess before but this trip was not up to par. One of the generators was out and we skipped the stop at Princess Cay because the ship couldn’t run fast enough to make the next port. After St Thomas the wind picked up and due to high seas we skipped Antigua. Understandable. We made next two ports and then skipped St. Kitts supposedly because of the weather. However, two other ships were able to dock. I think they couldn’t get back to Ft Lauderdale in two days under reduced power. This was a big disappointment. The company gave us 35% credit of the cost of this cruise toward another one plus $75 for missing Princess Cay. I felt we should have had at least 50%. The ship is showing wear and tear and now mechanical failure. I recommend sailing with Princess but would wait on the Crown Princess until dry dock repairs in November. In reading other reviews, the generator has been out since at least November. I enjoyed the food and had excellent service from our wait staff. We ate in Sabitini's (not a fan of the menu) and Crown Grill--love it. They have a pop up Crab Shack that we eat at every cruise--it's a delicious menu. Entertainment included a first class comedian and a fabulous pianist. We listened to his workshop presentations on the tv. There were several big production numbers. The cruise director did a lot of scrambling to fill the 3 unexpected sea days. Speaking of TV, the service went out several times including in the middle of the championship football game. Heard this problem from several other cruisers. The medallion service was a nice addition. we could keep up with our fellow travelers easily. It didn't work properly all the time. The ship is looking tired with stains and scrapes. One of the elevators was out of service the entire cruise. I love the Boss Underwater Scooter in St. Thomas. It's pricey but so much fun! It's the only excursion we did this time as the other ports were cancelled. Read Less

We always enjoy our Princess cruises. The captain felt that 3 of our ports on our southern 10 day were not safe due to weather conditions. They gave us 35% of our cost back to use toward our next booking! We also got a 75.00 credit per person for missing Princess Cayes. That was a wonderful gesture they were not obligated to make! The medallion is a great addition, although signal was weak in some parts of the ship. Cabin with balcony was wonderful! Crown Grill was fantastic. If I had any suggestions where improvements could be made, it would be nice if somehow they could monitor people saving chairs at the pool. Out of 6 sea days, there was only one day we got a chair! People put towels on them in the morning, and leave to do other things. Also medallion didn't always work due to weak wifi signal. Expanded room service menu would be great. Have more entertainment venues. We got tired of not getting in to see what we wanted, or having to stand in line for everything. I feel Royal Caribbean has much better entertainment and shows. More variety and more show times make for less lines. Getting a seat anywhere in the piazza was impossible, too. They need to make bigger efforts to have all elevators operating! Waiting long, and having them open to find them full got frustrating. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. Princess tries VERY hard to make sure their passengers are happy. We are ready to book another cruise with them. Read Less

RE ports and excursion was good but we missed 3 ports which in turn they gave us 35% of what we paid was nothing compared to what we paid The dinning staff and the head waiter were very good and really enjoyed the food in horizon court. The salty dog near the swimming pool was nice and the staff there were excellent we made good friends and looking forwards to our next cruise. the only down side was the spa which was over priced and certain staff did NOT like us Read Less

Thirty eight years ago we boarded Royal Caribbeans Sun Viking for the first of 46 cruises.. On this January 16, 2020 we see the lights of Ft Lauderdale as we sail up the Stranahan channel on this warm Florida morning. The reality of the moment is here. We are now in our 80's and the rigors of travel have finally caught up. This is our " LAST CRUISE." We chose our favorite ship, Crown Princess. She fits us like a glove. This is a review of the trip. On Jan 6 we boarded our Delta jet for our flight to Fort Lauderdale. Weather in Detroit was 33 degrees. Upon arrival in Fort Lauderdale it was 72 degrees. We arrived at the terminal, picked up our Elete Medallons and were quickly in our stateroom, B632 aft. Our room was very pretty with new carpets and soothing colors. Our Steward left much to be desired. Lets leave it at that Special note: On Jan 6, prior to sailing, we were advised due to mechanical issues that Princess Cay would be cancelled and we would have 2 sea days enroute to St Thomas. On Jan 9 we were again advised due to 40mph gale force winds that the Port of Antiqua is cancelled. On Jan 13 the Port of St Lucia is cancelled due to 50mph gale force winds and we would be sailing 3 days back to Port Everglades. The end result was on this 10 day cruise, we would have 6 days at sea. We did encounter very rough seas and would proceed to Barbados. We were ok from Barbados to St Lucia. Enroute to ST Kitts we were advised due to 50mph gale force winds the port is cancelled and we would sail 3 days back to Port Everglades. On this 10 day cruise, 6 days were spent at sea. We tried to explain to the first time cruisers that this does happen but it was unusual for this time of year. The Crown. This was our 5th time on the ship. She was refurbed in 2016 but we did notice she was wearing a bit around the edges. Some carpet was showing wear in spots. A few carpet seams we coming apart. We did notice the overhead on our balcony was showing a lot of rust, something we had not seen before. We did have problems with our balcony door and a television that kept turning it's self off. We learned the meaning of the term "Reboot." Overall she is in excellent condition. There was a much to do if you wanted to participate. Bingo and many trivia games through out the day. In the beautiful Atriun there was always something going on both day and in the evening. The computer room was always busy. Movies Under the Stars was popular. Do a lot or do little. Thats the beauty of cruising. Service on board was 5 star +. Dining rooms, Horizion Court, The Main Desk including the entire Crew. Princess has the best service of any cruise line on which we have sailed. This being our cruise #46 we have visited these ports on many occasions. St Thomas for example, 21 times. We did not take any tours but visited the port side shops. The early days of cruising all Eastern Caribbean cruises visited Nassau, San Juan and St Thomas. Times certainly have changed ! Food is subjective. We would rate it good but not great. We only ate in the Da Vinci dining a few nights. One night service was very slow. The menu included soups, salads and a nice variety of Entrees The Horizon Court was a different story, breakfast was not the greatest. Easy over eggs always cold. Link sausage cold half the time. However there was always a good variety of food. Breakfast in the dining room was always good, nice selection and food was always hot. Lunch and dinner in the Horizon offered many choices, mostley good. There was always a different theme each night. I lived at "Slice" the best pizza at sea. The Salty Dog pub offered great hamburgers, hot dogs, fries and chicken sandwiches etc, This is just our opinion and we are sure other passengers saw it different. Service was A+ in the Horizon. Princess also had two Pub Lunches. Real British food. Princess entertainment has always been tremendous. They had a couple of great comedians, two excellent girl singers and of course the big Production Shows,Magic to Do and Blame it on the Boogie. We would like to mention A J Clark. He played the piano and sang. He packed the Princess Theater and the Explorer Lounge when he appeared. He also gave two lectures on the "American Songbook." Outstanding ! British Pub Night in then Explorer Lounge was great fun for all. Princess knows the entertainment business. We did a few kids around the ship but beyond that we are unable to comment. It is difficult to say "last" cruise but there comes a time when you must face reality. The reality of aging. We stand on deck this warm morning having faced this reality. Are we sad ? Heavens no ! My bride of 62 years and I have been blessed to sail on so many cruise ships. Psalms 107 says, "They that go down to sea on ships see God's works and the wonders of the deep" We have witnesses these wonders 46 times. How many people can say that ? For Embarkation we tried Princess" EZ Check." For $25 pp we filled out a form and turned it in at the Main Desk. The final night we received printed Boarding Passes along with special Luggage Tags. Our luggage was picked up outside our stateroom and the next time we saw it was at Detroit Metro This also allows you to disembark anytime you choose, first, last or in between. When we arrived at Ft Lauderdale Airport, we showed our boarding passes and Passports to TSA and went directly to the Security check point then to our boarding gate It has been our pleasure to share our cruise Read Less

We went down on the 10 day To Barbados as a nice warm area there. We liked the time of year in January to escape the snows at home. Princess has good reviews and the cruise and food was great! We ate one night in the steak house and it was great and only cost an extra $28. Apiece and an excellent meal! All of the dinners in the main dining room were great every night! A good menu with a wide variety of selections and every night a new menu was very nice! The dining service was superb by our waiter Joel! Don’t buy the bar drink package it is overpriced at $700. Apiece and you can’t share it. No way could we have drank the 15 drink a days it offered! Our whole bar bill for 2 of us was less than that! And do bring on your own case of water and 2 bottles of wine for your room. I don’t like paying $2. Plus for bottles of water 5x a day! The spa was great I had several massages and Mildred the masseuse is the best! The daily lectures were very good to by staff. The fitness center was great and Igor the trainer was great! Very few come to the classes and it was really worth buying the class card as you get individual attention and training! The fitness center and spa are very clean to! The stateroom was very clean and twice daily service was very nice! Our steward Joel on the Emerald deck was great and the best ever! Since our cruise could not stop at 3 ports due to bad weather then Princess gave everyone a 35 percent credit off next cruise to use within a year. I thought this was very nice of them! I will definitely cruise with Princess again the service and food was superb! Read Less

We love the Princess ships, food, staff, entertainment and itineraries. I say no matter what because even with us not being able to dock at 3 of the 6 ports due to weather conditions and mechanical problems with a generator, Princess did a great job of making up for it by giving us a good discount to apply on a future cruise. I’ve heard of other cruise companies not doing this, so that’s another good reason to choose Princess. Let me also say that the food was excellent, in both the dining rooms and the buffet as well as the specialty restaurants and fast food places. We had a fantastic hamburger at the Salty Grill and the pizza was really good too. Entertainment was first class and the steward for our room was a great guy, always with a smile on his face and asking if we need anything. Like I said, Princess is our only choice from now on for cruises. Read Less

I choose this cruise because of the Princess reputation. But in the end I was highly disappointed both in the food which was a major turnoff their menu. New Years eve is a very special time, and they had no balloons or confit falling like the picture you see. This never happened. The entertainment was just okay for new years, I've seen a heck of a lot better. The restaurant seating was a disaster on New Years Eve, they should be ashamed of themselves on how they handled this not only on New Years Eve but throughout the entire cruise. The galleria on this ship sucks, very small and the shops are not worth shopping it, selling garbage jewelry and lousy clothes. I thought Princess cruise was well known for their food, at best their food was average, their dinner menu was terrible. I was very disappointed, to say the least. I thought Princess cruise exhibited a very cheap and frugal type of experience. Read Less

It's been 20+ years since I last stepped foot on a cruise ship, but this trip seemed to be something that my entire family was going to enjoy, so we booked it relatively last-minute. Loved being out on the water, beautiful views, stunning sunrises and sunsets, gentle rocking of the ship led to blissful sleep each night. Quiet rooms, comfy beds, very relaxed atmosphere, and we got to experience a variety of ports in a short period. The medallion experience was mixed. Great concept - kind of a pain to fill out ahead of time, but worth it for ease of boarding and disembarkation. Got all the materials shipped to home, so we had them prior to arrival.Very annoying that they force a grouping by stateroom , though. My kids are teenagers, so were in a separate room, which made the apps a pain to use, and billing disjointed. Many locations on the ship tried to use the medallion, had it fail, and resorted to manual entry or paper tickets. Transfers from and to the airport were well organized and efficient. The ship overall was great - nice staterooms, well-appointed (if somewhat over the top) decor, roomy staterooms, everything was clean, comfy beds. Staff - a very mixed bag - most crew were friendly, helpful, seemingly eager to provide a great experience. A handful - particularly in the dining rooms, were surly, rude, and clearly just wanted you out of their area as quickly as possible. About half of the casino dealers were devoid of any personality at all. We booked shore excursions at each stop, which I would never do again. They are all run by third parties, and are basically nets to trap tourists into situations where they can be bled dry. Cheaper and more fun to just go it alone, and explore the ports with your group. Lesson learned. Speaking of being bled dry - the nickel and dime charges on this trip may make it another 20 years before i cruise again. $16 a day for lousy internet, $60 a day for soft drinks, another $100 a day for adult beverages, $60 a day for mandatory gratuities, plus 18% on any add-ons. Pay an extra $30-50 per person, per meal if you want to eat at one of the "quality" restaurants. When we booked this trip, it looked like a deal compared to all-inclusive resorts, but the total bill came out to almost double what our initial booking cost. Why not just include everything and let people see what the vacation really costs? Just annoying. Next year, Sandals or iberostar for sure! Overall, a great trip, but not a great value - if budget is a concern, I'd stay away from Princess. Read Less

Family and Friends have bragged about Princess Cruise Lines for years. We received an offer via email that was too big to pass up. My husband and I booked a New Year's Cruise. I am the sole care-giver for an aging parent and the timing on this offer was exactly what I needed. We make the reservations, arrange for care for my Mom and off we went!!! I almost wished we had not spent the money. Princess Cruise really needs to spend some extra funds on the maintenance of the ships in their fleet. We had so many plumbing issues in our cabin, I was never able to take a comfortable shower and/or shave my legs the entire week. Most days my husband had to stay with me so he could operate the nozzle for me. We made the steward aware of the issue, he attempted to fix this himself instead??? Trust me when I tell you, he had other issues to address himself. Our cabin did not appear to have been vacummed. We even purposely left a candy paper on the floor to test this theory. I finally picked it up days later. We had rings left from glasses on the furniture until again, I finally wiped them up. The glasses in the bathroom were never refreshed, or cleaned. The salt spray was never wiped clean so we could enjoy the balcony view, etc etc. Our robes were not delivered to room until Tuesday evening, and that was only after leaving messages at the front desk and with the steward twice. On day 4 we made the front desk aware of the plumbing issue. They did send someone to look at it, but it never repaired the issue. Once the water did start to operate correctly, the drain was so backed up, you were standing in like 2 inches of your own filth at the bottom of the shower stall. It was quite disgusting. It was a full week before I was able to bathe without assistance, shave my legs and feel CLEAN again, unfortunatley that was on shore. There were several other small issues, which would only be a training issue I believe. I asked one of the deck crew for a cup of ice (we had our cups from the Drink Package we purchased), he gave me directions to the nearest pub for me to get the ice myself???? We waited over an hour and a half for a table for table for dinner. We stood for 10 minutes at an outside bar, only to be told by the bartender we had to move around to the other side of the bar (more convenient for him) and then had to wait in THAT line for our turn again....just rude things like this throughout the entire week. We booked one excursion in Jamaica for a horse ride along the beaches where Treasure Island and Papillon were filmed. Then a nature walk through old plantations etc. This "ride" consisted of a tiny circle made by the horses in chest hight water saturated with horse poo and a 10 minute ride around the parking lot...literally. Princess did offer a full refund for this disaster. We were very grateful Although there were MANY negatives, we did find a few bright spots during our week. After the third night with a "shot in the dark" about dinner, we stumbled onto a wonderful team in the Concerto Dining room. Archie and Vermillo were definelty a saving factor for us. There was also a PHENOMINAL employee in the photography Department. Angelica was just what her name implied...Angel! She was able to capture our memories on film and was so very instrumental in assisting us to find our pictures, and arrange a great package to purchase. She was so easy to pose for her, we actually looked for her each evening. I must note that Princess did offer a $100 credit for our issues. But, we spent over $3,000 and several arrangements were made to make this happen for us. Again, we did have a great time...was just disappointed in the concessions we were forced to make to enjoy it. Great trip! This was a 7 day cruise to Princess Cays (amazing!!), Grand Cayman, Falmouth (worst excursion ever, Chukka Horseback) and Cozumel (reef restoration excursion was unbelievable). This was our second time in 6 months to be on this ship. Plenty of servers and roaming bar staff. Some new activities from just six months ago. Sold out ship but never seemed crowded. Everything looked clean and cared for. Easy to embark and debark. Relaxed feel, extremely nice shipmates and staff. Cooking demo is always funny, go for the laughs even if you can't cook. Also always love the question and answer with cruise director event. Was weird that Bingo wins didn't increase with more players though. Surprisingly, we had bad experiences with our unidentified steward (correct, he never introduced himself so I don't know his name), and though I nipped it in the bud the first full day by reporting him, there was a later experience and I will be contacting Princess tomorrow about it. Over all this is one of the best cruises I have been on. Their Ocean Medallion program definitely made a huge difference in my opinion. Embarkation was the fastest I ever experienced on a cruise. That's the way it should be! The only negative is the entertainment at the pool. The music was excellent, but was interrupted and cut short by an NFL game or movie. Movies should be played only in the evening. I was in a great mood with the music, then when it was cut, the mood was gone. The food & wait staff in the dining rooms were incredible. We were able to experience all 4 dining rooms because our main dining room would get busy. But that's ok. The fact that they accommodated us so quickly was fantastic! My stateroom attendant was accommodating as well. He took care of my son's needs (he has eczema) without judgement. So it was a big deal. He made my son feel comfortable, bringing extra blankets & changing the bed when we asked. Thank you for a wonderful experience especially with the New Year's celebrations. That was memorable` Read Less

My boyfriend and I chose this cruise line because of such good reviews we heard from my uncle who is an Avid cruiser on Princess. My boyfriend and I have never gone on a cruise before so we trusted my uncles opinion and went for it. Everything was perfect from the time we got on the ship to when we sadly had to leave. The efficiency of how quickly we got off the ship to ports was impressive. The efficiency the last day on our cruise was outstanding. We got off the ship early and our luggage was neatly placed in the correct area. It was all just impressive. My boyfriend and I were very happy during our entire time of the cruise. The shows were phenomenal. The food was so great. The cleanliness of the kitchen was such a turn on to eat more. The service was over the top AMAZING. Princess outdid themselves especially for the NYE party! Partying in the middle of the ocean was a dream and I will never forget it. This ship was perfect. Luxurious and so much more. Read Less

I’m new to cruising, so Princess was the 4th different line I’ve tried out, and it was by far my favorite I may be easy to please, but the medallion class is now my preferred way to cruise! The touchscreens near the elevators were easy to use and understand, I sincerely enjoyed being able to find my shipmates anywhere on the ship without having to keep cell phones on us. I was able to find out what activities were going on easily and make my selections. The shows were wonderful, Broadway quality, and we enjoyed four different shows during our cruise. Being able to order drinks poolside and have them delivered to us, rather than standing around waiting at the bar was also a great experience! The room service was excellent, and the cabin steward was terrific also! All around, this was my favorite cruise after having been on MSC, Carnival, and Holland America lines. Read Less

What can I say about our holiday cruise on the Sky Princess on December 28th? Well let’s start with the positives 1. Sky Princess is a beautiful new ship 2. Static the band was great every time they performed and kept everyone dancing New Year’s Eve and other evenings 3. Our room steward was one of the best we have had over our years of cruising 4. Our assistant waiter was flawless and should be a head waiter he went over and above every time. 5. Embarkation and disembarkation was very efficient. Unfortunately for us the negatives out way the positives. First let me start with saying that our family and the friends that we travel with have been on multiple cruises over the years, Disney, Celebrity, Royal, in fact we actually got married on the Grand Princess so we know what to expect when we cruise. Sadly the Sky Princess was such a disappointment and did not even get close to meeting our expectations. 1. Service Levels: Better yet lack thereof – Our dinners took no less than 2.5 to 3 hours to complete. Not that we were in a hurry but seriously we weren’t finishing our dinners until 10:30 to 11:00 at night. This was in both the Soleil dining room with a late traditional dining seating time and also in the specialty dining restaurants. In Sabatini’s our waitress was run off of her feet for the number of tables she was working and she apologized for how long we had to wait, did I mention this was our 20th anniversary dinner, she did her best to make it special and we thanked her for all her efforts, but shame on you Princess for not providing the support to your staff. Another example, Crown Grill again we had a reservation, got seated and then waited for an hour for someone to even come and take our drink order, again our waiter had no support, was working multiple large tables and running around off his feet to serve his customers as best as he could. Again not his fault, this in on you Princess. 2. Dietary needs: Based on this experience we have ZERO confidence in the ability of Princess to manage any dietary needs which with our group of 8 we have members that live with severe Nut Allergies and Celiac disease which requires, nut fee and gluten free options at every meal. Did I mention that we’ve cruised as a group before and have never had the issues that we had on Princess, we did all the right things, through our bookings notified Princess of our restrictions, ordered meals the night before so that the chefs were prepared and yet then just couldn’t get it right in the Soleil dining room. They were so incompetent that when we finally had enough and called over the head Maitre d' and his assistant the head Maitre’d had the nerve to say and I quote “you can’t expect us to accommodate every food sensitivity that is out there” Yes we can and yes you should….that was it for us NEVER again Princess. 3. Lotus Spa: We booked the revitalization hydro therapy package for two for the week and so did half the ship. So when it came to using the spa it was either overcrowded, sensory showers or the sauna didn’t work, pick one. Clearly they didn’t keep track of how many people were in this tiny space nor did they clean it regularly, from towels and robes being all over the place, dropped on the floor because the bins were full or from a safety perspective, there must be a drainage issue since the floors didn’t just have a little water on them but full puddles just waiting for someone to wipe out. 4. Broken equipment: Every time we went into the Marketplace (food buffet) there was always an issue with the coffee machine or the ice machine. One or the other or both were always getting fixed. The breakdown of the ice machines was particularly annoying on shore days when you wanted to fill up your water bottles with ice. 5. Medallion: I’m all for technology but there is no way I’m putting mine or my families passport and photo identification into an app. Which you don’t need to do by the way. You are just waiting for identity theft to happen. Having said that, while I appreciate some of the features of the Medallion options what it doesn’t provide or guarantee is your privacy, every cabin has each occupants full name listed first and last which don’t think is necessary or safe, as a mother of two older teen girls who had their own cabin anybody going by their room with this system now knows their full names. Princess if you need to identify the occupants in the cabins stick to A. Smith instead of putting full names for all to see. As well if you have the app everything is available, for the sake of “conservation” there should be an option to opt out of receiving the paper Princess Patter every day. Ours went straight into the garbage. There is more but I think you get the point. We were really looking forward to this cruise and were very disappointed and with the arrogance in incompetence that we experienced related to our dietary needs it is safe to say we will NEVER cruise with Princess again. Hope this helps. Read Less

We have been frequent Princess Cruisers and really loved the experience. Princess had great food, entertainment and service. Tended to cater to mature adults. Not anymore. The new ship was attractive but lacked the glamour of older ships. We like real wood finishes and upscale look. The chairs in the theater were smaller and uncomfortable as well as the thinner lounge chairs on the deck to fit more people in. Entertainment was poor. They had one decent band. The shows poor. Mostly cheap comics and magic tricks. They discontinued the balloon drop for New Years. They ran out of champagne buckets and on black tie night we got our Moet Chandon delivered to the table in a plastic Budweiser ice bucket. The good band was put on the top deck and the formal party in the piazza was very low. The food as well was very inconsistent. Never an exceptional dining experience. Mediocre dining. The cost of Princess was nearly $5,000 and we would of been better off on a $2,000 Carnival Cruise. There were over 500 children on board. Appears that they are also marketing different. It is a shame and it sounds like we will go back to Celebrety to have that special feeling. And by the way, we completed our Princess Survey with our concerns and at 5 weeks later with no response. We have done many cruises with multiple cruise lines. The new Princess shop inspired us to try Princess again after not cruising with them for over ten years. However this cruise will be our last Princess cruise. First impression was positive- embarkation was very quick and easy and we immediately got into our cabin with our bags arriving fairly quickly after we arrived. We toured the ship quickly (you will need a map since the layout of this ship is very confusing). Our first surprise was when we visited the sanctuary to book loungers for this adults only area. We arrived immediately after boarding - not only were they sold out for the entire cruise, but they had a full page waiting list!! By 1:00 pm . This was our first red flag. Dinner our first evening in the main dining room was over three hours. (And most evenings was this long). We had two dietary restrictions and yet the maître d’ never stopped by. The servers were amazing ...but they were literally running because they were so overworked. We noticed a huge difference in staff levels on this cruise - like they are upsizing the number of passengers but downsizing the number of staff. Our servers in the specialty restaurant apologized over and over because they were handling so many tables that service was unbelievably slow. Our last night was at the crown grill - it took over an hour just to get drinks. We don’t blame the waiters because they were working so hard - but Princess is clearly prioritizing profits over customer service. The sanctuary, escape room, specialty restaurants were all sold out. There weren’t many activities during the day - we found on-board entertainment to be severely lacking. Our teenage daughter tried to go to the teen club - but there was never anything going on ( in fact it was closed more than it was open). The food was decent- but the buffet had the same food every day, so if you cruise for more than 7 days you will get quite tired of the choices! Unfortunately we did have concerns about their handling of food allergies- we had to ask servers to double check items since we were told “we think it’s nut free” - sorry Princess that’s not good enough when dealing with a nut allergy. I have s gluten allergy and was able to get gluten free bread, waffles, muffins and pizza. Still no gf buns for hamburgers, no cookies or other sweets. There was usually one gluten free dessert in the buffet, and chefs choice for dessert at dinner. I can honestly say that after cruising for ten years as a celiac, there has been very little improvement in gluten free offerings. Our last day was the final straw - by 6:30 in the Morning there were absolutely no chairs around the pool area. By 7:00 there was no chairs around the upper decks. There were some deck attendants that would remove towels from unused chairs, but something clearly needs to be done about this problem. The only positives I have to say about the cruise was that the embarkation and disembarkation was extremely well done. The beds were also amazing, as was our room steward (one of the best we’ve ever had), but those aren’t enough to compensate for the overall poor experience on board so we will be trying another cruise line for our next vacation. We chose this cruise because we cruise Princess often, are Elite and wanted a New Years Eve Cruise. The ship is mostly a Clone of Regal Princess and Royal Princess just different color decor and a few minor other changes. Embarkation and disembarkation were very smooth and quick in Ft. Lauderdale. There is some construction around Terminal 2 which was a tad bit confusing. The ship is beautiful and I thought it was well done. One big difference was there is no library on board. My husband likes to get a book from the passengers left overs where they leave books for new passengers and missed not having it. A friend of ours always waits to get on board to get a book and she was also disappointed. All the food in every venue was excellent. Presentation was great, temperature of food was perfect, quality and quantity were also perfect. Some new desserts in the main dining room. We always eat at least one night in the crown grill and it did not disappoint. For frequent cruisers princess has changed the desserts in the crown grill and it was nice to get something different. We got very lucky that the band STATIC was on this cruise. We have sailed 3 Princess cruises with them and they are the best band on the high seas. They get the passengers involved in every session and before you know it you are having a GREAT time inspire of yourself. Being a New Years Eve cruise Princess did a great job of having lots to do. We went to the pool area and watched New Years come in on several of the Princess fleet sailing in places around the world via the big screen tv. Also STATIC was the entertainment and I would not have wanted to bring the New Year in any other way. We had a comedian Andrew was his first name can’t remember his last but he was very poor. Not many people laughed. A very nice Trio sang in the Piazza along with lots of fun stuff to do. They had Cha Cha and Rumba lessons. Easy to understand and learn the steps. Service was great and all staff members seemed truly happy to help. Captain Tuvo was an absolute breath of fresh air. His daily announcements were entertaining. He starts out saying Yoo Hoo and ends with bye bye. It is just fun, different and cute. Cabins were same as Regal and Royal. We had a balcony and there was plenty of room. We usually get a mini suite but they sold out rather quickly. I really wish there was a way to control the “chair hogs”. One lady was occupying 6 chairs by the pool all by herself. 2 of the chairs were never occupied by anyone but she had them blocked. So rude. We sat in our chairs for several hours and watched several chairs not be touched by anyone but had towels and belongings sitting there so no one else could use the chair. There has to be a way to stop that. I wish the cruise lines would come up with a solution. I would highly recommend Princess. Read Less

I have a close group of friends that sail every year for New Years Eve. It's the best way to let the past go and the let the new year wash over you. This year we decided on taking a Princess Cruise on the fairly new Sky Princess. In all honesty it was my first Princess Cruise ( which I had to double check as I cruise multiple times every year but with no real brand preference). Sure enough, never had I sailed Princess. As new ships go , the ship was really pretty and functional and we just loved it. I did feel the balcony cabins were a tad small but frankly with the gang I was onboard with, we wouldn't be in the cabin much. What makes a good cruise great though is the little things. I don't think the crew even know the word "no". It was always, "it's my pleasure". Now we are not a demanding group, kind of go with the flow folks, but time and time again we witness guest interactions that were nothing short of spectacular. guests wold be so worked up about nothing like, "I can't find bagels on this ship" when they were standing in front of them and the staff would treat these folks with tenderness and attention. It was something to behold. Let's not forget Captain, "bye-bye" as he's affectionately called. He is just a hoot and could give lessons on how to be a personable captain. We looked forward to all his announcements. Always loved when he took FULL credit for the good weather. Since we were on for New Year's Eve we knew that there would be a party, but couldn't have imagined how well orchestrated it would be. Major Kudos goes to Cruise Director Alexander (who was the best Cruise Director I've ever had) and the entire staff, they threw one heck of a party that lasted well into the early AM. I just can't say enough about the programming on board relative to activities, I wanted to cut myself into 4 people, so I could do everything that was in the Patter ( Princess daily events sheet). It was loaded from sun up to sun down with non stop activities for every taste. Food- Was just amazing. The main dining room on anytime dining was a bit tricky and we sort of wished we had been able to get fixed seating. Sometimes we had to wait 30-45 mins for a table on anytime dining but they have pagers so you can go to the bar and have a drink or hang out in the Piazza the ships gorgeous atrium and listen to the band. The food itself was really, REALLY good. We ate at every specialty restaurant and every single one was spectacular. Service at each was TOP NOTCH! So good that we went back twice to the Italian restaurant. Princess has a winner with this newest ship. The integration of the medallion is nothing short of spectacular and we know it will only get better as time goes on. Wifi was incredibly fast and while it did drop out a few times- nothing major. Kudos Princess, you knocked it out of the park! Read Less

We have cruised several times and usually go Norwegian. We are a couple in our 40s, with 18 yo and 11 yo sons. We love NCL for the food and all the activities they have on board. We decided to try out Princess because we loved the 10 day holiday itinerary of this cruise. I knew it was a bit of an older demographic, but honestly said to myself "how bad can it be?" We travel a lot and always are able to make the best of any situation so I thought we could do without some of the amenities that other ships offer since we would be at port most days anyways... We just got home yesterday and I can say confidently that we will NEVER go Princess again. I have a whole list of issues with this cruise line, but to summarize: 1. Food was not good. We are used to knock-your-socks-off food with lots of dining options, specialty restaurants, etc... The buffet food was better than main dining room on most days. But the buffet was random, small and not great. For example... here is what the lineup was on one day for lunch and in this order: Black beans, indian butter chicken, steamed cauliflower, grilled zucchini, mashed potatoes, crock pot stew, creamed corn, steamed fish of some sort.... there were a few more items, but you get the idea... I wish they would have done something that made sense- a day of Indian, for example, with 3-5 Indian dishes followed by the mashed potatoes and regular American food options. Or how about a day of Chinese food, Mexican food, etc? It was like they pulled out whatever was in the fridge closest to them, warmed it up and slapped it down on the buffet line. Weirdest thing ever. And the buffet was TINY. My 11 year old lived off of grilled Hamburgers from the poolside grill for 10 days. The breakfast buffet was worse. The most watery scrambled eggs you've ever seen- reminded us of the free breakfast you would get at a Holiday Inn. No omelet station unless you found a crew member and specially requested it. Then it took 15-20 min to make (they prepared it in the back). Microwave bacon. Yuck. I ended up eating an English muffin with mystery jelly (it was never labeled on what flavor it was) and a bruised banana most days. They also only had two specialty dining restaurants and it was impossible to book a rez once on board. I luckily booked one night of specialty in advance, but once we were on board and realized the regular dining was not very good, we wanted to book more nights of specialty but couldn't. Oh and once on board, they advertised a one-night-only Crab Shack night (Which was extra $$ but we were willing to pay just to have something GOOD) but only had enough slots for about 30 reservations so they were booked by the time we called to get a reservation. Really crappy planning, in my opinion. 2. We were bored out of our minds. No water slides, no rock climbing wall, no ropes course, etc... we knew this cruise line catered to an older crowd and that these amenities were not on the boat, to be fair. However, I expected they would have some of the normal staples at least: Pool table, mini bowling alley, miniature golf, kids arcade, etc... Nope! They had a tiny golf putting green, but it is NOT a mini golf course. And the basketball court we were looking forward to was like a quarter court. Smallest one we have ever seen! And there was no dueling piano bar or any sort of entertainment like that. The comedian they had was mediocre. The best act they had was the vocal impressionist singer they had on one night. I've never seen more people sitting around a cruise playing board games and cards. It seems that everyone was bored! And we have never done more Bingo or did more trivia- we had to just to keep ourselves from dying of boredom. Also watched more movies on this cruise than ever before in my life. I don't think we have ever watched a movie on a cruise ship, actually. 3. They had a generator problem on the ship on the cruise prior to ours, so they couldn't go full speed and canceled one of our port days. So yes- we had to spend ANOTHER day on the dang ship with the same lame food and dying of boredom. They also trimmed time off of our St Thomas port, which interfered with our plans for that day. 4. They were an hour late into one our ports and the shore excursion we booked through Princess on Grand Turk sucked. It was a true cattle call type of experience. We usually book our excursions outside of the cruise lines and this was a good reminder of why. **The one positive thing about Princess is the service is really good. All of the staff we encountered were helpful, friendly and worked very hard. We do think in that respect, the service on Princess is a bit above the rest we have previously sailed on. Perhaps we have been spoiled by previous cruises or perhaps we just aren't the right demographic for this cruise line, but either way... we won't be back. We talked to other people our age on the ship and it seemed to be the same consensus. I felt bad for the families with children younger than ours- they were having a hard time it seemed. I just called and canceled the Alaska cruise we had for the 2020 summer that I booked a year ago. I am relieved! Never again! Read Less

We chose Princess Cruises under the impression that Princess Cruises is one of the higher ranked / higher quality cruise lines compared to several others that we had taken prior (MSC, Norwegian, Costa, Aida). We also loved the itinerary for the "Jewels of the Caribbean with 6 stop overs). Our high hoes were shattered early during the emergency drill, when the captain announced that due to prior and ongoing trouble with one generator, the Crown Princess would not stop over in Grenada at all, and would leave St Thomas 2 hours earlier than planned. As a "reward" for this inconvenience we received a meager $100 credit per person, which given the overall costs of our cruise being close to $9,000 for two, seems a smack in the face. To make things worst, the Crown Princess arrived late on her last stop in Turks and Caicos and the early booked tour via Princess Cruises (no surprise here ) had already left without us. Only after long debates with the excursion team did we receive a refund, without any additional discounts or consideration for our inconvenience. We basically were forced to spend the time at the over crowed beach near the ships dock. We had also booked the all cruises access pass for the Thermal area and initially we were told that the Spa Pool was exclusively for Spa guests. We found out the hard way on the first day that this was not the case and anyone could enter the area. There was no such exclusivity. Upon our complaints they changed their statement and said it would only be reserved for adults, but not just Spa members. Anytime diners frequently had a wait a the formal dining restaurants and tables for two were literally never available. Even with reservation attempts they were always booked out very early. The food in the buffet restaurants was tasteless and without any culinary highlights. Even soups were watery. In contrast the food in Sabatini's and Steak House was great, but then of course you pay for it. We thought that Princess Cruise would offer at least such higher quality food in the "free" restaurants, but no such luck. For us the cruise was a major disappointment overall after our high hopes for Princess Quality, and as we are frequent cruisers we will spend our future money elsewhere. I am sure none of the well paid executives in charge of Princess will take a note. Read Less

Terrible food. Poorly scheduled entertainment times. This cruise they eliminated a port so we had an additional day at sea and two other ports had reduced time there. Very disappointed and will not cruise Princess again anytime soon. The casino should have had more tables open while at sea since we had additional unexpected time sailing. The staff was nice...no complaint with them. Food variety as well as quality was terrible. The lido dining area closed at 11 pm so any food was by room service which took a while and came up cold. We had a set dining time at 7p. Things like trivia or other fun "game type" participating activities seemed to be scheduled during our dining time. Some of the more popular activities should have been done in larger venues/lounges. Our balcony room was nice but on both Princess cruises we have taken the bathrooms are extremely small. Showers leave barely any room to turn around in without flooding bathroom. Read Less

Princess cruise could not provide a worse experience ever. As soon as we departure from Fort Lauderdale, the caption announced we wouldn't stop in Grenada, one of the ports was scheduled. The crew members were completely disorganized, there were no crew member providing instruction or organizing all the lines to get in or get out of the ship. Every single stop was a mess!! They arrived 2h late in Turks and Caicos without any excuse and the cruise ship didn't compensate us staying a little longer in the island. Because they didn't stop in Grenada and they arrived late in Turks and Caicos, I missed the excursions I'd paid and I lost my money. When I complained about this problems in the service desk, I got the answer from the crew member that they couldn't do anything and it was my problem because I didn't purchase the excursions with the cruise company. They also tried to push me to purchase excursions for the next islands. In the last day, we realized the crew members were getting the luggages in front of the cabins and they were taking many pieces together with a small cart. I also realized the crew members were dropping many pieces of luggages many times when they were taking it. So, when we arrived at the final destination in Fort Lauderdale, we realized our luggage was completely destroyed. We did a damage report in the port and sent it to the cruise company. It's been almost 2 weeks I arrived and I didn't receive a single answer about the cruise company. Thank Princess Cruise!!! You destroyed my wife's birthday, my vacation trip and also my luggage!!! Stay away from this cruise company, they don't care about the passengers!!!!!! Read Less

We have done well over a 100 cruises over the past 50 years, 62 of which have been Princess. As we are in Florida Nov/Dec we like to tag a cruise or two onto the end of our stay, returning home mid January. Having done a 20 day back to back on Crown for the past 2 years, and the dates fitting our plans this time, we booked this cruise again. An added bonus was reduced flights which fit in with our travel dates. Having done the Ocean Ready for Medallion pre departure, as UK passengers we had to collect the Medallion at embarkation. Embarkation was the worst ever experienced - no line for Elite passengers entering the cruise terminal, lines similar to Disney to go through security. Princess personnel unable to cope directing Ocean Ready passengers without medallions. No need to produce documentation or screenshots of Ocean Ready details but had to show passports three times and give cabin number. The whole process took 3 times longer than normal (we always check in at the same time). Once on board we went to Guest Services and requested a cruise card instead of Medallion. We dislike the Big Brother element of it and had bad experiences when it was trialled on a few passengers on Regal a few years ago. We haven’t got a smartphone either. The card was just like the Medallion - tap to get on and off ship, tap for cabin entry and tap to pay for items. Several passengers asked how we had managed to revert to cruise cards. The security people on the gates at St Thomas appreciated the card and the clarity of reading our name and comparing to our ID. Lifeboat drill was a farce. It is bad enough that Princess have turned a serious event into a musical but this time the recording with relevant information was interrupted by the Captain announcing a problem with a diesel generator and informing us of a rescheduled itinerary. We therefore werent shown how to put on a life jacket and everyone left the muster station after which the recording was broadcast again as passengers were milling around lifts and Prom Deck. Our inside cabin was perfectly adequate but I don’t like the duvets so requested a blanket instead to be told they are no longer available. I had to compromise with 2 of the smaller Movies under the Stars blankets. Apart from the revised itinerary and the windy weather preventing docking at 2 ports which resulted in an additional 4 sea days (we hate sea days at the best of times), our biggest grouse was the food. The menu choice in the MDR was mainly not to our taste and when we went in for dinner, had to complain about the quality and temperature of the offerings. Breakfast in the MDR was generally good but the same could not be said of the service. Starters were served to other tables whilst our cooked food sat at the serving station. Horizon Court was poor for cooked food in that it was often barely warm. Fried eggs were like set jelly and toast was dry and hard. There were too many themed evenings and for the first time ever on a cruise we had to resort to burger and fries for dinner from the burger bar a couple of times as at least they were cooked to order. American desserts are not to our taste but there was never a fresh fruit salad and we used the ice cream bar or the cheese offering. We certainly didn't put any weight on. Lunch was mainly taken at the International Cafe as their soup was always hot but the sandwich choice never varied as it used to. There was a better system at Afternoon tea with a variety of bread and a few sandwich fillings available. Despite a partial refit in 2018 there are areas of the ship that need addressing particularly Horizon Court seating and layout. During the whole 20 days one midship elevator was out of order, other elevators were taken out of service on a daily basis resulting in long waits for elevators, some of which by passed the deck we were waiting on. I can’t comment on the entertainment as it was much the same shows as on previous cruises but just wish there were quiet places to sit in the evening without any music. We tended to watch movies in our cabin as it was too unpleasant for Movies under the Stars. I also wish they would turn down the sound on Movies under the Stars and on deck music as this can be heard in the Sanctuary. The level of sound could produce noise induced deafness particularly for staff There was often a sewage/rotten vegetable smell on Deck 17 near the Sanctuary. Drinks service as always is very slow, even when going to the bar oneself. Even Medallion users were experiencing problems. At the bar there was only one machine to be tapped and it was a fixed unit. How they have the audacity to make an additional 18% service charge I do not know. Despite being give additional obc and some credit towards a future cruise, I am hesitant about booking Crown again. No one seems to know if the generator problem is likely to be solved soon. I would advise anyone to think twice about booking Crown especially as its Summer programme is based in Southampton and aimed at UK passengers. Read Less

Well, this was only our second cruise with Princess, but it will be our last. We had two further bookings in 2021 with negligible deposits and are cancelling both of them. Our booking package included a hotel the night prior with transfers from the airport to the hotel, and of course to the ship. We arrived at Miami airport at 11am, searched eagerly for the Princess rep in the arrivals area, as instructed on our booking form, but none was to be found. We walked up and down each arrivals concourse repeatedly and were still searching at 3pm, so much so that even one of the a cleaners came up to ask who it was we were looking for. At 3:30pm I called Princess on an 1-800 number from a payphone, spoke to an agent who then placed me on hold for exactly 20 minutes, probably hoping I would hang up, but I didn’t, so eventually she returned to advise me that all the reps had left for the day and we would have to take a cab and pay for it ourselves. The hotel they booked was half way between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, so at least a 20 minute ride away. I asked if Princess would refund the cost and she advised me they would not, but I could try to talk to someone on board. So we paid $52 and eventually arrived at our hotel, the Shula’s Golf Resort, where we finally met someone from Princess, but who could also not confirm a refund. The good news is that this amount was eventually refunded after speaking with the Front Desk on board. The hotel was actually very nice, located at Miami Lakes, a nice area with restaurants and up-market shops right outside. The room was contemporary with a smart clean bathroom and, had we arrived earlier, we could have certainly used the lovely pool outside while the sun shone. Next day we transferred to the ship, a very crowded and chaotic experience at check-in, but eventually we boarded and found our stateroom, B757 looking out over the stern of the ship. The large balcony was nice, the room average, but there was a distinct smell of cooking, (quite often fish) most of the time when on the balcony, which was due to the large extractor fan that was right next door - to the right as you stood on the balcony. There was noise from this, but it did not bother us during the voyage as the way more attractive noise of the ship’s wake overcame it really. We then attended the safety briefing at which point the Captain advised that, due to the failure of one generator during the previous cruise which had yet to be fixed, there was a need to cut out one port on the itinerary which was to be Grenada. A huge sigh of disappointment emitted around the room, but we were also advised that by way of compensation each guest would receive $100 refundable credit on their account. This was an OK gesture and pacified most people, however, our last trip with Princess also announced a port cut out, again after we checked-in, so I am wondering just how common this may be with them. The ship appears to be the same build as the P&O Ventura ,on which we sailed earlier in the year and was fabulous, however the Crown Princess looks tired even though it was apparently refurbished a year or so ago. The carpet in the Horizon Court appears faded as if almost threadbare, and the gold paint is literally peeling off inside the elevators and looks extremely shabby. The cabin was OK but there was some serious vibration most of the time during the night and the rocking motion was very noticeable. We have had cabins at the rear before and whilst sometimes there is more movement, it has never been this bad. Fortunately neither of us suffers with any motion sickness, but if you did it would have been an issue. I had a soda package, but we paid by the glass for my husband’s wine. In the Explorer’s lounge the only Merlot on their menu was priced at $11, to which an 18% service charge is then added which should make the total charge $12.98. However, when we eventually checked our account, we noted that each charge had been posted as $14.16. Believing we may have the service charge incorrect, I checked with the Front Desk what the percentage was and it was confirmed as being 18%. So we queried the charges applied and she returned with the till receipts and said the wine was $12. So my husband produced a photo of the menu taken on his mobile and showed her the only Merlot on the menu as listed as $11. She seemed totally unconcerned that an additional $1 was being applied to every drink and simply offered to remove one of the charges altogether, which we accepted. However, I would advise everyone purchasing individual drinks to note the exact charge applied to your account. Due to the “Medallion” system, you do not automatically get the receipt when you order items, so beware. If they add an extra $1 to every drink purchased on board, what a bonus for Princess that racket is. We chose not to eat in the MDR after seeing the location of our table in a very dark and dingy end of the room and so ate in the Horizon Court. The food was just OK, some very strange combinations at times, but at least the salads were fresh and crisp and a fairly good range of desert choices. We took excursions at each port, most were OK, except the trolley tour in Curacao, it was nothing more than a ride through deserted shabby back streets with a stop to photograph the “Weeding Cake” house and a quick visit inside a Church. At a cost of $40 each this was a total waste of money, especially as we all had the joy of queuing for over an hour on the dockside in the baking heat before eventually being loaded into a taxi to get us to the town centre, which we could have walked to in about 15 minutes, as we did on the return. Based on that experience, we cancelled the similar trip we had booked for Dominica. At this port we arrived, not at the main town port, but a container port at least 2 miles from town. A few market stalls set up and so we spent only about 1 hour off the ship here. No other ships in port, so why Princess could not dock at the usual main port is a mystery. And the final stop of Grand Turk was utter chaos. Due to arrive at 1pm, we had a tour booked for 1:30pm. The ship arrived late at 1:45pm, and so the queue to disembark was absolutely horrendous with no organisation from Princess staff whatsoever, so people were descending in elevators and pushing in, and we stood in line for over an hour in the non-air conditioned art gallery so it was extremely hot and the line did not move at all. Other cruise lines handle this much better with a numbered system ensuring that those on tours disembark in different stages as a group. The queue still did not move, so by this time we both had had enough and so spoke to the front desk to request a refund of our tickets, but we had to visit the tour desk at 5pm for that, which we did and, in they were indeed duly refunded. I will say that this was an area in which Princess excelled over several other cruise lines we have been on, their front desk staff were actually empowered to make decisions and issue refunds and did not have to advise people they would “have to contact Head Office” for such purpose. We had both had high hopes of this trip, a second for us on Princess, but yet again they failed to deliver. The entertainment was dire, the sales pitches continuous from daily Bingo tickets, Spa sessions, Photographs and “medallion “accessories (to accommodate the magnetic disk used in place of the usual cruise-card), some of which are very expensive indeed. You name it they wanted your money for it. So no, sadly we will not be returning. Read Less
