We have sailed with Princess for 9 voyages, 8 of which were on Sea Princess. Every cruise has been filled with friendly outgoing staff, from the Head Waiters right thru to the Cabin Stewards. We were on the ship straight away and this time our luggage was there about 5 minutes after we arrived. We have had a balcony on every cruise but 1 and would have to recommend these cabins, they are spacious with fridge and a great balcony for some private moments. The entertainment is first class with something for every one's taste. We always go with the traditional dinning, because it allows us to get to know our servers and fellow passangers at our table. Well worth considering. In all the times we have cruised with Princess we have never had one complaint about the service we receive. The staff- even though they have to deal with some INTERESTING clients-always come through with dignity and respect ( much more than I would have). We do not do many of the excursions, but have heard a lot of positive comments. We do not travel with children, but think they must be well looked after because, when we do see them on the ship, they seem to be having a great time. We have only cruised on one other line, and they do not compare to Princess. We wil continue cruising-but only with Princess- for many years to come. Read Less

My father served in Milne Bay , and Rabaul durning the war so I was very interested in these ports. We have been to Rabaul before and done the war tour. The islands and colour of the water is beautiful and just so pieceful. You have to be prepared to give donations though as that is what they expect. It is such a beautiful cruise and the captain was outstanding and his staff were lovely. We really couldn’t fault any thing. We were the first princess ship to go to Conflict Island, that is absolute beautiful and the snorkeling is the best in the world (they say) If you haven’t done this one put it on your bucket list. We really enjoyed it and could properly do it again later. We did private tours on both those ports as I wanted to go to certain places which Princess didn’t cover. A great cruise could have been longer. Read Less

Cruise was great despite 4 floods,a fire in the library and a broken down engine in cairns. Food overall was excellant except for the stirling steakhouse. .where the meat was dreadful and the vegetables likened to prison mush. The ports of call were good but princess needs to expediate the tender service. Leaving everyone in 34 degrees plus heat for exceptionally long periods of time is not acceptable. On board facilities were an acceptable standard however the attendants would leave the male and female change room doors open at the gym. As the signage is on the door people kept getting confused. Twice i had a lady walk in on me in the shower and the sauna in the mens change room. Princess cruises are great but the shine has definitely tarnished. Entertainment was excellant and the cruise director was good at his job. The room attendant was very good and s9 obliging. You do get what you pay for and princess is a good mid range cruise line. The embarkation was a pleasant experience up until we boarded the ship as the embarkation staff were very helpful and quick in providing the cabin key and other necessary documentation. Once I got on the ship myself and all the other passengers could not go to our cabins because they were not ready. The ship is old and a little bit tired, there were numerous leaks from the overhead pipes on the promenade deck, they attempted to patch them but without much success, The public areas of the ship were generally OK. I was in Cabin 747 on Caribe Deck the cabin was very clean except for the fact there where a pair of ladies jogging pants and a top in one of the draws, The hot water in the shower didn't work for the majority of the journey. The balcony was lovely and we had a number of excellent meals on as there was a table and three chairs on it. I enjoyed being able to relax on the balcony and watch either the sun rise or set. I mainly used rooms service for breakfast, it was alway delivered on time and was exactly what I required, Fabio the room service steward alway made sure the table was set ready to start my breakfast. I dined once in the speciality restaurant (Steak House), whilst the food wand service was OK the ambiance was terrible and it is a part time restaurant made up of one half of the Horizon Buffet restaurant divided by a number of wooden screens which provide no audible or visual separation would not recommend this restaurant at all. I had anytime dining in the Traviata Dining room food was OK nothing really special staff were excellent but service was too fast for my liking. Used the Horizon restaurant a few of times the less said the better. The Pizza restaurant was OK for the no cost pizzas if you liked them drowned in cheese and the base not crispy. The you paid money for the pizza then it was very good. I suppose you get what you pay for. The bars were very good, excellent staff who were extremely attentive once they got to know you. Entertainment of the ship was inline with all the other ships I have been on. They like a curates egg good in parts but generally pretty bad especially the princess players the guy could not hold a note if his like depended upon it. They danced like they were robots whilst they smiles only went as far as they lips. My room steward (Prichiet) was excellent, nothing was too difficult, he always happy. The ports we visited were Port Charmers (Dunedin) Taieri Gorge by Train , excellent excursion, magnificent scenery , excellent commentary and good food and wine. The volunteers on the train did a very good job of looking after us. Akaroa Lovely little town, Didi the harbour nature cruise, saw a number of little penguins in the water preening their feathers, two hughes dolphin mothers with their days old babies. It was absolutely wonderful. Wellington Went on the Museum and Cable Car would not recommend this tour as it was too rushed and really didn't get to see anything Napier Went on a wine tour, enjoyed it there was a lot of wine to sample at the three wineries we went to Auckland The jet boat was fantastic and very good value for money. The disembarkation was a breeze, very well organised and executed/ Read Less

Great cruise. Have done it twice now and loved it both times. Friendly crew, great food and great ship. Sea Princess is my favorite ship. I have been on her 3 times now. Entertainment was good, (Freddy Mercury impersonator the very best), but other shows were quite good as well. Restaurant was good for Breakfast lunch and dinner although we will need to go on a diet now as we just could not turn back any of the fabulous food on offer (Challenge was accepted). Cabin was spacious and very well positioned on deck 8 which was handy to almost everywhere we wanted to go. Embarkation and de-embarkation was a breeze and reasonably quick with no hassles. This is one of the reasons we enjoy cruising over flying as it is much easier to board a ship than go through the airport hassles. All in all the Sea Princess is a very well run ship and I would definable sail on her again.. Read Less

We booked this cruise using Marriott Vacation Club points for the 2 nights from Brisbane to Sydney. We wanted to experience the maiden voyage into Sydney. We found the ship to be in very good condition and enjoyed the experience very much. The food was excellent, having anytime dining we tend to eat late and was seated straight away at a table for 2. The world market place, I found the food fantastic, and in fact the 2nd night we had dinner there, as we did not fancy anything on the main dinning room menu. We enjoyed the noodle bar for lunch. The production show we thought was fantastic, it was new, and very enjoyable. We got to the Princess theatre 15 minutes before the show, and had to seat up the front, to het a better seat maybe 1 hour to 30 minutes before showtime Would I travel on Majestic Princess in the future, yes, have I cruised other cruise lines before, yes. After being on loads of cruise ships some good but most bad, I have to say Majestic princess was an outstanding surprise. The food quality was excellent even in the buffet.. The bed comfort was the best I have ever been on, they usually are so hard and put my back in spasms but this was exceptional cloud like comfort. So many restaurants and coffee shops to choose from, and so many areas on the ship to relax in peace and quiet. This ship is so big that even fully booked and at maximum capacity we never had to line up for anything. My only advice when booking a cruise is always look up when the boat was built it doesn't matter how many refurbs its had 30 yr old aircon and 30 yr old plumbing will ruin any cruise. I will never sail on an old cruise ship again majestic princess was built only 1 yr ago. It's my new favourite cruise ship. I will definitely be going back.. Read Less

Just cruised on Majestic Princess from Brisbane to Sydney (2nights). This cruise was fantastic and not long enough. We had an inside cabin which was roomy enough and beds are very comfortable, but pillows not so comfortable so glad I bought my own. I have many food allergies & intolerances & this is the first time I have eaten at the buffet & specialty restaurants as the staff were very knowledgeable & could explain the ingredients in each dish & chefs could easily modify menu options to suit my needs even coming up with options not on the menu. It made my experience all the more enjoyable. As normally this would be a very stressful experience for me. This cruise ship was very relaxing & the hydrotherapy pool helped improve my tight muscles. Though a little on the expensive side. Highly recommend this ship and can’t wait to sail it again. Read Less

Chose this cruise with sister in law for her 60th birthday. Can't fault the staff they were brilliant and dining waiters made our experience a very fun and memorable one which we looked forward to each evening. The night before disembarking was disappointing as things went wrong e.g. drinks charged to our account which shouldn't have been as we had drinks package. Reception staff were very good at trying to fix problem however it required going back to them 3 times. Sister in laws door card had to be replaced 4 times as it wouldn't open door. One photo staffer was extremely rude on formal photo night which we witnessed again later towards his own staff members on raffle draw. Were refused a coffee at Cafe as staff argued we didn't have a drinks package when we did. Theatre is far too small and requires lots of sitting around early in order to get seats for second show. Captains Circle event was disappointing. Much prefer P & O's approach where you walk in get given canapes and a drink and then line up to get photo with Captain. This event was just sitting in the Theatre hearing a couple of songs from the Princess singers and getting given a free drinks coupon as we left. Over way too quickly. Found the age demographic too old for our age group however in saying this found lots of very friendly people who would strike up a lovely conversation. Just too many wheelie walkers and wheelchairs for our liking. Entertainment staff definitely generated lots of fun throughout the cruise. Shows didn't go long enough - each one only half an hour. Darwin disembarking was horrendous and our tour Jumping Crocodiles very disappointing. Tour included a 1 hour croc tour on the river and a visit to the Humpty Doo Pub. Spent 1 hr at pub and arrived at croc tour at 5 pm, on water at 6 pm and told we were turning around at 6.30 pm. Got lovely sunset photos but that's not what we were there for. Saw 2 crocs on the bank that looked really disinterested as sun had gone down and tour should have been cancelled by ship as we were late getting off ship to begin with and then there were 4 big coaches that headed out there far too late. When heaps of people complained they denied we weren't on the river for 1 hour and preferred to listen to the videographer who said we were, instead of the passengers however all our cameras had the times on the photos as proof but they didn't want to know about it. Our stateroom however was fantastic. Shower was generous and bed was the most comfortable I have slept in on a cruise ship. Position was good as there were no noise problems however because our doors faced each other on a V angle our doorway entrance was quite tight fitting. Food was fantastic and lots off different varieties of places to eat e.g. the restaurants, Horizons Buffet or Terrace Grill. Would have no problem choosing the Princess line again however probably not the Sun as it is a very old ship. Read Less

Our friends were already booked on the cruise and asked us if we’d like to join them. Also, we had never been Perth so thought it would be the perfect opportunity to visit there & other places along the way. Right from the start we were having the most amazing time together. There was always something to do onboard or just relax on one of the many deck chairs with a good book. The restaurant was a great place to enjoy a meal & formal nights were even more special, it was a good opportunity to dress up. We were very lucky with calm seas most of the time as 2 of us do suffer from seasickness. I just wore the sea bands & took travel calm original on a couple of occasions. All the staff were friendly & very polite. Nothing seemed to much trouble for them. Great memories Read Less

We are regular cruisers. We like to have a change of environment about twice a year. There was no special reason for this particular cruise. It just happened to be about the right time of the year for us. We choose Princess because they are one of the few cruise lines to operate from Brisbane. Also, they have the best loyalty program. We have been using Princess Cruises mostly, but we may need to re-think our priorities if Princess continue to downgrade their food quality, and menu choices. The quality deterioration is especially noticeable in the buffet area, but the restricted menu applies generally. Smoking is still encouraged on cruise ships by providing smoking areas in public spaces on board. Passengers are encouraged to complete the survey at the end of the cruise. This will take about half an hour, No acknowledgement is ever made of any comments or suggestions. Read Less

As we were two lady friends travelling together had two single beds which were so comfy. Our fellow cruises were friendly and for those travelling alone it made such a difference to them. Entertainment could have been a little better but still we enjoyed them all. We had a stopover in Airlie Beach, not much to do there and the walk from the boat into town definitely took more than 20 minutes so slow walkers beware and catch the bus for $5 return. All the staff were friendly could not fault a thing. Highly recommend. Read Less

Despite what it says, this was a two day cruise from Brisbane to Sydney. We chose this cruise to test what Princess was like after a less than favourable cruise on P&O last year. I can now say that Princess leaves them far behind even though they are both owned by the same company. The big difference is food. Princess retains the traditional buffet in which there was plenty of variety and mostly good quality. Sea Princess also has free pizza which for some inane reason P&O does not. Good quality pizza it is. We had a quad room for 4 adults. It was cosy but only for two nights. We found that the ship seemed to have more motion than others we have been on (Dawn & Solstice). Although the seas were almost calm there was some noticeable shuddering and swaying. We had one main dining room meal which was top class. Servings were on the small side but you could order more meals if you wished. Ending at White Bay in Sydney is a pain. No public transport handy so we needed to fork out for a taxi to get back to the airport. Read Less

We chose this cruise to coincide with my wife's 70th birthday. It was a great occasion and on the 17th of March, I took Margaret to the 'Steakhouse' to celebrate her milestone. The rib fillet and prawn menus were delicious and well presented. The waiters were very obliging and friendly. The nite was capped with desert and a chorus of 'Happy Birthday' from a procession of waiters heralding a birthday cake. The daily talks on various topics and subject at the Princess Theatre and Vista Lounge were very informative and accurate. The friendliness of the waiters and their assistants during evening dining at the main restaurants was a feature that was looked forward to each night during meal time. The nightly entertainments at the Princess Theatre and Vista Lounge after dinner were of a high standard and very entertaining. We chose this cruise as it was short and left from our home city. We had not been on a cruise before. After this cruise, I would not recommend that anyone affected at all by motion sickness book a cruise, even with the medications available for purchase in chemists. The activities available on a cruise, particularly outdoor activities for children, are significantly affected by the weather, so a cruise in poor, cool or rough weather conditions can rule out all swimming and deck activities. Our shore excursion was also markedly impacted by the weather, with none of the water activities we paid for being available on the day at Hamilton (snorkelling, kayaks etc). This left only beach swimming and using the pool, activities not worth the hundreds of dollars the excursion cost us. It is also a very lengthy process to get to shore locations- it took 2 hours to get from Hamilton back to the Princess in poor weather, and required 2 boat trips and a bus ride. Coffee drinkers should also note that the free coffee on the Princess is terrible, and the coffee which you can buy only marginally better. This might sound petty, but those who are regular coffee drinkers will understand how crushing four days with absolutely terrible coffee can be!! Read Less

This was our 7th cruise in the past 4 years. We decided to book the Sea Princess 4 night cruise to Arlie Beach. Whilst we had a good time with friends who also came, I was very disappointed with this ship and would not book again. Cabin: We would usually book a balcony, but decided to book an internal room due to it only being a 4 night cruise. Room and bathroom was extremely small, the doona's were so hot that you couldn't sleep with it on, despite the a/c being down as low as it could go. Despite being hot, the bed was comfortable with nice feather pillows. Ship: Nice ship, very small theatre for nightly shows. It you didn't arrive 30 mins before the show, you would miss out on a seat. Shows were OK, but seen much better on other cruise lines. Dining: The buffet was very average. The pizza restaurant served lovely pizzas although these took 40 minutes to be served. The dining room quality of food was average. Salmon on 2 occasions was so overcooked and dry, lamb shanks were tough and it was a struggle to remove the meat from the bone. The staff in the dining room were very friendly. Cleanliness: I didn't ever see any staff cleaning public restrooms, doors, stair rails etc. The public bathrooms were filthy. The timber doors leading from the inside elevator area to the outside pool deck was grimy and filthy smudge marks all over the glass the entire cruise. Whilst I was very careful with hand washing, hygiene, I came off this ship with a gastro bug. Cleanliness is extremely important on a ship, and the fact there were no staff seen cleaning public spaces is a big concern. Arlie Beach port: Local boats were used to take people ashore which worked really well. Overall, I would not go back on the Sea Princess due to the quality of food and lack of cleanliness. Read Less

As experienced Princess customers we looked forward to our Australian Cruise on the Sea Princess. On the positive side crewmembers were friendly, efficient and attentive to the passengers. However, The Sea Princess is a poorly designed vessel. Unlike other Princess ships the buffet dining venue is all the way forward at the topmost part of the ship making it more subject to ship motion, not the ideal situation when trying to eat. The lack of an elevator midship’s causes extensive walking to either the bow or the stern in order to get from the lower to the uppermost decks. Not the most considerate design considering the aging populace presently cruising. Again, unlike other Princess vessels, when configured for a double bed, the inside cabins are so poorly designed as to leave less than 6 inches between the bottom corner of one side of the bed and the closet which makes for tricky navigation if one wants to use the bathroom in the middle of the night without having to crawl over your bed partner. Also, unlike other Princess vessels, the free soft serve ice cream and pizza stations normally found on the Lido deck have been replaced by an ice cream for purchase concession (no more free ice cream on demand) while the pizza by the slice station has been replaced with a sit down “Café” pizza facility midship’s. Unfortunately, it sometimes takes half an hour to get seated at this “café” and then an additional half hour to get a pizza. Although the pizza itself remains free it is presented on a menu wherein many other choices are presented for a fee. In general, we found the food on this ship quite unremarkable although there are an increasing number of “specialty” restaurants costing additional fees. In fact, they have converted half the buffet dining venue to a specialty for fee restaurant. We certainly hope that this is not a portend of things to come on Princess ships. If so it is a clear message that the cruising experience is giving way to increasing the opportunities to extract as much money from passengers as possible by reducing amenities as well as the quality of “free” dining and increasing the incessant opportunities to purchase jewelry and artwork. You probably guessed we did not enjoy this cruising experience. Read Less

Fascinated by new destinations & the fact that we'd never visited our nearest neighbor, we were prepared to try Princess Cruises for the first time as their advertised Itinerary promised the best insights into the country. with 5 full days ashore. We were impressed with the cleanliness, crew & maintenance aboard the Sea Princess, but less so with issues such as cabin size, seating space in the Lido & theater, & unimaginative dining fare in the Dining rooms. Princess delivered less than 80% in its promised destinations, bypassing Kitava [due to tech issues?] & being 2 hours late into port on a number of occasions. The destinations they did deliver were very worthwhile & the Ship's Shore Excursions at Alotau & Rabaul were very interesting, although a little more time to listen to the local population would have given deeper insight. The Island visits were better in this way where you could engage a local to show you their true way of life, to meet their family & tribal group as well as learn the local customs, history, land use, a well as pleasures & perils of daily life. I hadn't been to Papua New Guinea before. The people were delightful. There were lovely carved wooden items to buy, especially on Kiriwina - and no problems with getting them through Customs. Customs were however checking on other passengers' woven baskets etc. Be mindful that this is an underdeveloped country, so don't expect top class vehicles for your excursions etc. Doini Island is a tropical paradise - wonderful swimming and snorkelling, plus kayaks to hire. Kiriwina is also great, with beautiful carved goods. Rabaul is very interesting, especially its volcanoes and Japanese occupation tunnels. Alotau is a small but pretty town - the Alotau Festival is nice to visit. The people are wonderful - even though life is hard - and they really try to satisfy your needs. Get some extra kinas to donate to schools etc. These people have it tough, and every kina counts! Don't be mingy with your money! This is a great trip for anyone who had WW2 experiences in PNG or the surrounding island in the Coral Sea - or the relatives of such veterans. Sea Princess has one of the best buffets afloat! My partner picked the cruise. I only went to keep her happy but I was pleasantly surprised. I had a great time. Could easily get use to being waited on and dinning in a five star restaurant every night. There was so much food, could eat all day if you wanted to. Happy hour (which was 3 to 4, a bit early) was a great idea, buy one and get one the same for $1. Worked out cheaper than buying the drink package which was $90/day. Cocktails were $9.95 - $13.95 (mostly) sprites $7.95 the same as a beer. There wasn't enough seating for the early shows so people were sitting there for up to an hour before the show began to make sure they got a seat, a bit disappointing. The shows were good and a shame we had to miss one or two. Shore excursions are cheaper to book on shore than the Ship excursions but may be full and need to check they are back in time as the ship will not wait for you. Loved NZ. Would do it again. The waiters are rude in that they ignore you or at best say "yes"?? How about they hire wait staff who understand the language enough to have a conversation. You feel like you are talking to robots. Our rooms were clean (but not to the standard of Royal Caribbean) and the beds were so comfy (better than Royal Caribbean). Entertainment was so so, not bad but not A grade. Food was good, not great. Lots and lots of older people so no loud music at all will be tolerated lol. Pretty boring really no activities for kids other than kids room. Most bars are closed until 3pm and no real entertainment, an Irish singer (love Ireland but can only hear so many Irish tunes). A piano man again so so and a duo playing violin and a Caribbean band that's it guys. They have shuttleboard but couldn't find the rules. It was nice but the staff made it a very disappointing cruise with their lack of warmth. PRincess need to check who they are hiring. We missed all ports due to bad weather but that didn't bother me. The captain made the right decision and kept us safe. I would have had a lovely time if not for the coldness of most of the staff. I hate to complain but Couldn't stand how they were. Read Less

Food was great, we only used the buffet and found all the food was well prepaired and a great veriaty. Cabins we could not fault very clean and sericed well. We could not get into most ports due to strong winds which was disappointing so spent a lot of time trying to find something to do other than sitting around the pool all day. Most of the bars inside catered for 70 plus age group. My wife is 59 and I am 60 but found these bars very boring. The stage shows put on with dancers and singers was great but only went for half an hour. Trivia games were good value fun. Drink prices ok with beers from $5.50 to $8, glad I didn't get the drinks package, would not have got my monies worth. The shop also ran out of duty free alcohol on the second last day. This was a 7 day cruise and very relaxing but would have been very bored if was any longer. Not getting off at ports did not help and was not the fault of the ship but mother nature unfortunately, hence the bad reviews for ports and excursions. My wife and I wanted to see Cairns Australia and travel on the Kuranda railway. We selected this cruise for this purpose, but unfortunately the ship could not dock in Cairns because of high winds. This also applied to other ports on this cruise, except for Airlie Beach. Apart from this disappointment the actual cruising was great. I must also mention that it had been my policy, not to cruise with other Australians. It is difficult to put this diplomatically, but I went against this policy for the efficiency of embarking in Brisbane, not far from our home, where we could drive to the port and park nearby. To say we were soon disappointed and embarrassed with our fellow Australians (and some New Zealanders) is an understatement. The "bogans" as we call them here were everywhere. The wandering of the ship with beer bottle in hand by poorly attired men (and some women too) was repulsive. I better leave it at that, but I could go on a lot further. Needless to say, I will re-instate my previous policy from now on. The dining room (Traviata Dining Room) staff were outstanding. It was an absolute pleasure meeting them and to be served by them. The dishes we tried each night were superb, if a little low on volume. I cannot see Americans accepting the low portion sizes. The usual problem with finding a table in the Horizon Court was in evidence on this ship also. It seems to be a universal problem. I do not like being forced to eat food at a table with people I do not know. I was expecting The Sea Princess to look a little dated after reading feedback from other people. I know it has been refreshed lately, but I found its condition to be superb. Apart from previously mentioned disappointments I enjoyed this cruise for what it was. Read Less

Not the best of cruises ... thanks to Queensland's notorious February weather. Had to question the wisdom of Princess Cruises sending one of their ships north from Brisbane and into the tail end of a cyclone and monsoonal weather! As expected, we encountered high seas for much of the voyage, missing out all but one port ... and that stop was only possible on the way back to Brisbane after first abandoning it on our way north. Cairns, Port Douglas and scenic sailing around Willis Island. also had to be abandoned. Luckily, we were able to anchor off Airlie Beach and spend a few hours on dry land after battling rough weather for five days. Then a small hop to Brisbane and we were home! Can't understand why the ship was not rescheduled to sail south into calmer waters (maybe Sydney and Tassie for instance) and away from the awful weather off the Queensland coast. Maybe the bitter pill would have been sweetened a little had Princess attempted to make up for our disappointment at missing ports ... but not even a free glass of wine was forthcoming let alone any future cruise credit. It could be argued that we should have been aware of Queensland's February weather when we booked ... but that does NOT excuse Princess for sending us into rough seas when we were aware what was happening with the weather TWO weeks before sailing. Apart from that, the cruise was quite enjoyable. Fabulously comfortable and quiet cabin, except when the side thruster was being used. The huge almost floor to ceiling window was much appreciated. Entertainment and food quite good. Trivia was great. Staff very good, though our cabin steward did miss out on the nightly bed turndown and chocolates, and forgot to give us dry towels, on two evenings. The ship oozes luxury and is kept immaculately clean. In my book, Princess still offers great cruising and is to be recommended. Read Less
