I chose this cruise to celebrate my 50th birthday. I loved the experience, but I wished there was MORE TO DO!!! On the ship, I mean. The best part for me was the excursions, and meeting some really nice people onboard. Outside of that, I wished there was more opportunities to have get-togethers. For those who have been on many cruises and have met all sorts of people, I think that would be easier, because you can plan cruises with these people. But for first-timers? Perhaps I can spend more time on cruise critic and maybe find some new friends to go on the next cruise with. I went with my aunt this time. OH......and the best thing that happened to me was the day before my birthday, I went to the First-time cruisers welcome in Princess Live!! and won the drawing for an Elite membership being given away!!!!! That was awesome!!! :) Read Less

We spent time in Athens, Delphi, and Meteora before the cruise. Taking a taxi to the port was much better than trying to save money using public transportation. We were thrilled with our little balcony, our first after 13 cruises. I think we are now converts! It was especially lovely in the evenings to sit and read. The food on the ship was very good. I especially liked the Afternoon Tea. We chose set dining, but four of the seats at our table for 7 were never filled, and the other two also didn't always come. We will opt for anytime dining in the future. Our waiter, Joseph was exceptional. The entertainment was top notch. The best were the magicians. The theater isn't big enough though. It's necessary to get there 20-25 minutes before the show to get a seat. Three separate shows would be better. I enjoyed that there was a "book club" but only two other passengers came to the meeting. We loved our first port, Katakolon, where we booked our excursion Olympia Site and Museum Experience with Niki (?). While labeled semi-private, it was a large tour bus. But we divided into a group of 14 with a good guide. We'd highly recommend it. Kotor, Montenegro was next. It is a medieval city that used to be part of Yugoslavia. We took a ship's shore excursion since we had shipboard credits. A small boat took us to a quaint chapel and a village. I would NOT pay for that excursion. Wander around inside the walled city on your own. We hope that soon the ship can return to Turkey or maybe go to Corfu or Malta instead of here three times if taking the 21 day cruise. Mykonos was too windy for us to dock. Read Less

WE have sailed with Princess for decades - always stellar experiences in every respect. This past cruise was a disaster, in that, we had a staff working area across the hall from our room on the Baja deck and were wakened several times each night with loud banging - like metal trolleys or pots and pans etc. This was the standard of sound proofing on an otherwise beautiful NEW ship. The staff who would come up to check each time we phoned in the middle of the night, refused to acknowledge there was anyone there and to call again if we were disturbed. After four nights of less than there hours a night of sleep, I fell ill. Two days into the second week, our room was finally changed, although no one had bothered to respond to the written complaint we had deposited at the customer relations desk. The dining experience seems to have been included in the cost cutting efforts as fresh fruits were blemished, meats so tough, we were leaving food on our plates. Our waiter Sim can vouch for that. The entertainment standard has slipped considerably as, presumably, costs to hire talent have gone up. Service on board Princess ships is wonderful - from our cabin steward to the dining room staff etc. The people who would come up to the room each night to check on the noise, were polite but ineffective. We are angry with the Supervisor at the Customer Relations who never saw the need to respond to our written request - ever! We have rated this cruise as below average first and foremost, for the nightly disturbance causing lack of sleep and my falling ill because of it, followed by falling standard of meals. Once home, we wrote again on September 19 and have yet to hear back - it is October 3 today. Read Less

We had an EXCELLENT Med cruise on Emerald Princess about 4 years ago. This was a different itinerary but we expected just as good an experience this time. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great. Good points; * We used the sanctuary 3 times which was very good on sea days. (I did get a sliver of glass from the floor in my big toe. Quite a lot of blood but it happens; I got over it). * The cabin staff were very good and attentive. Perhaps not as friendly and engaging as previous staff but very efficient. * We went for set dining and had an excellent table. 6 from UK and 3 Aussies. I don't know if we were just lucky or Princess allocated us in some way. we were habitually the last table out of the restaurant in the evening. * The singers and dancers were first rate. They could easily fit into major onshore productions. The choreography was excellent and the timing of the dancers superb. Points for improvement. * Generally the staff were not as engaging and friendly as previously. It seemed just like a job, if they had served you what else did you expect? This applied to front desk, excursions staff, waiting staff, security staff and specialist staff. A big re-training exercise is needed on Royal Princess. * PLEASE do not bombard us with product selling on the first day on board. Drinks packages (although NOT the restaurant wine packages), wine tasting, Lotus Spa treatments, coffee cards etc. It seemed that Princess just wanted to extricate the maximum amount of additional spend they could do from us. It was too in your face. * Why oh why has Princess converted the Atrium into a raucous noisy venue? It used to be somewhere to go and have a quiet coffee or drink where you could chat to others with perhaps some subtle background music. Not now. It is filled for much of the day with loud music which is ultra intrusive. Come on Princess, the Atrium is not the place for these bands. * Noise levels generally have been amplified. The pool area 'games' sessions are unbearable. In Crooners the speakers are set at a volume which makes conversation virtually impossible. The singer was due to finish at 12.30am one night. He then did a 'final' two encores before going into a third. It really was unnecessary and should have been stopped by the cruise director or his staff. * We had the gold wine package and were satisfied with it although Barolo has been taken off the wine list. But others at our table had dreadful trouble in the first week getting the wine they wanted. It appeared that either Princess or their suppliers had run down the wine seller and even sauvignon blanc was out of stock. * Meal quality was disappointing. I expect ice cream sundae to come in a large glass not 3 blobs of ice cream in a stainless steel dish with some cream. Rib eye steak was very disappointing. Even the Cesear salad has deteriorated. The choice available has reduced, sometimes portion sizes were very small and cooking was not what one would expect and we have received previously. * Where has the independent travel adviser gone? On previous cruises we could go and talk to someone about independent excursions. This service has been withdrawn. Disappointing. We had a VERY NICE time on the Royal Princess but it has undoubtedly deteriorated in the last two years. We will give Princess another try but probably not on the Royal. We much preferred the Emerald and Ruby. Read Less

Initially I chose this cruise because it visited many of the Greek Islands I wanted to see. The ship in and of itself is beautiful, but other amenities missed the mark. While the Concerto dining room was great many of the food items were sub par, especially Sabitinis. The everyday menu was better than the selections that changed nightly. However, the breakfast buffet was great, there was a wide variety and truly had something for everyone. The entertainment on the ship was a bit disappointing, none of the events (line dancing, karaoke, magician, comedian, live show, etc) lasted longer than 45minutes to an hour. I thought that was very unusual, especially for a ship that size. I would like to see the events last longer, giving people more time to enjoy. Lastly, there were some very grouchy and unfriendly people on the ship. I understand they are probably overworked and under paid, but that's not my fault. I pay for a service and expect exceptional customer service. Finally, the ports the shipped stopped at were amazing and the stops were quite long (anywhere from 8 hours to 11 hours). Read Less

This was actually two seven day B2B cruises. However the itinerary suited us perfectly. Our first time on the Royal class. Beautiful ship though I think I prefer the Diamond class - just that little bit smaller. Our cabin was ideal for us - see my comments below and we had a fantastic steward. Found the layout of the Horizon Court a bit confusing - you seemed to have to go all over the place to get everything for breakfast - maybe that's just what we eat! Fruit, omelette, toast with bacon etc add on. Main dining rooms were good - dined mostly in Concerto. Menu could do with a bit of a rejig - been very similar on our last few cruises. However food well cooked and service excellent. Had a couple of evening meals in Alfredos - great service and delicious food. We also had dinner in the Crown Grill one night - absolutely first class both food and service. On this cruise as well as our last on the Diamond in February this year, they ran out of nearly all white wines in the MDR. This was only about a third of the way into the cruise. I knew the wine was available in Crooners bar but had to be really quite insistent with my suggestion that someone should go and get it from there. Not sure why on earth they would run out of wine so early in a cruise - think the logistics may need a bit of work. The only other complaint would have is that with the piazza layout the volume of entertainers is very loud through out the whole area. We always enjoy Crooners bar but in the evening it was virtually impossible to have a conversation as the entertainer in that area was so loud. He was very good just very loud! We only booked one ships excursion and did out own thing privately for most ports. But the excursion to the winery, Oia and Thira in Santorini was very organised and suited our needs perfectly. Another great cruise with Princess - only a few months till the next one. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we sailed princess in 2013 and really enjoyed the food and entertainment. We waited for the Royal because the balcony rooms have sofa beds and we were traveling with our son. Positive:lots of movie choices in stateroom, gym not crowded (not sure if this is because no air conditioning for several days), you don't have to sign for towels, usually could find a chair by the pool later in the day. Two of the comedians were outstanding, wheelhouse band was great but wished they played longer than 11:30 , some of the shows were very good (Colors of the World), DJ Niki tried to play to the crowd most nights and was successful. Did two princess shore excursions they were both good. Negatives: Ports: only negative would be duplicate ports (Naples and Montenegro) and too short a duration in port . Also the port lecturer was a little hard to understand Very rocky and cold last day heading to Barcelona. Stateroom: carpeting was so dirty, I didn't want to walk on the floor, floor not vacuumed, beds were hard (had to try and use an extra duvet as cushion), lack of storage, bucket was so old and dirty but was replaced the day we left, International Cafe: only place to get regular coffee in the morning and understaffed for the size of the ship. Horizon Bistro: most ice machines under maintenance, transit days breakfast closed early, same choices every morning and afternoon. Tacos every afternoon. Have to wait until 5:30 for different choices Breakfast dining room: limited choices and only two on the menu and usually what is in the buffet Front desk: understaffed, took 2 weeks to followup on a first damaged and then lost shirt. Had to ask for a supervisor to get a form signed after 4 visits to the front desk and still no resolution. Had to keep repeating the situation over and over. No documentation system but a paper form and they lost the form so had to start over. Maitre'd: not sure why we were assigned the dining room on the opposite side of the ship from our room. Also assigned a table for 3 when requested 6-8. Luckily my son met teens his age the first week. HAL does a nice job with assigning table mates. Second night my son was behind us entering the dining room and was stopped at the entrance for a dress shirt and dress shorts. He asked if he could tell his parents he had to go change but was denied. We wondered where he was for 30 minutes and started to get concern and was going to go look for him. Our room was on the opposite side of the ship so it took some time for him to change. Many people were in jeans that evening and the gentlemen next to us was in shorts and sneakers. The policy should be the same for everyone. Please inform the parents when turning away a passenger. We spoke with the Maitre'd and the supervisor and there was no followup or explanation. Captains circular party: only for elite and platinum members at night for 1/2 hour and drinks only served for about 10 minutes. If you are ruby or emerald you receive drink coupons during the day and a chance to be entered in a drawing for elite the week of your cruise. 18-20 year olds: Only club 6, this age still likes to have more than a club to hang out. Should have xbox or something for them to do during the day especially when the weather is bad. Crown grill: don't bother ordering the lobster because it isn't Maine lobster. Looked like a small piece of shrimp. Ordered the lamb and it was 2 small pieces and had to order a second because I was still hungry (additional charge). The sides are limited and served family style. Again not a great dessert selection. I heard from other passengers that Sabatini's was better than the Crown Grill. Gym: Complained of gym having no air conditioning and they told me because there was too many people in the gym. There was 5 people in the gym. They finally turned the air conditioning on a few days later. Food: biggest complaint and the reason we moved from RCCL to Princess was the food. Last cruise with RCCL the food was poor. Dining room food was really disappointing. Food is a big part of cruising. Service really slow because of being understaffed. Not enough choices, meat has lots of fat (should have to spit out your food), hamburgers are overcooked and tough. Food was very salty. Food wasn't served with items on menu. Ordered veal with lemon butter sauce and got veal with brown gravy. They would run out of items. We had to order multiple items to make a regular size dinner. There was never a good dessert to pick on the menu unless you like cheesecake or creme brulee. We would end up ordering ice cream most nights. Apple pie, apple crumb anything with a fruit didn't have apples more like an apple paste. Why can't you make a simple brownie or chocolate cake, real apple, blueberry or lemon pie? pie. If I checked into a hotel with a dirty room, hard bed, poor food and slow service, I would not stay. Read Less

Just back from enjoyable cruise. Embarkation quick. Ship in good condition. We had previously sailed on Regal 3 yeas ago and did notice some cutbacks- mainly in deck bars drinks quality and MDR choices but on nights we went we still managed to find something!!Food in Horizon court was great-don't miss the seafood buffet!Crown Grill was good too. We saw the illusionists and the welsh comedy vocalist shows which were entertaining. Did nt do any others. We thought the resident band, I think they were called The Sound, were poor but the quality of the other musical groups/acts were good with plenty of variety. Ports were good and tenders well organised. On the Regal they made a big thing of every sail away with the band playing live but it only happened once on leaving Kotor- as I mentioned we did nt think much of band so it was no loss I suppose. Service was good except on sea days on deck, when It was obvious they needed more staff but they all tried to remain cheery. We had an Aft cabin and loved the extra large balcony. Some specks of soot on some days but not a problem. Overall we had a great time with enjoyable pre cruise stays in Athens and post in Barcelona. Read Less

My sister and I chose this because we had one week in common off and I said, I am looking to see to where Princess goes this week and that is where we are going! At first I was a little disappointed that there was 2 sea days but we enjoyed those almost more than the port days. The Cruise activity staff were wonderful. We loved the trivia and name that tune activities. They had some new twists and turns to the old standard games. The Princess at Sea application is new since the last time I sailed on Princess and I loved it! I could communicate with my sister, we could pick out our activities, find out what was going on when our plans changed, and had a map on hand at all times. The ship was full! We had two calls prior to leaving asking us if we wanted to change our cruise as it was oversold, we did agree to a voluntary downgrade from a mini-suite to a baloney for a nice rebate. The room was still fine as far as room and really we did not need a suite. We ate in the Crown Grill and it was a great experience. The steaks were wonderful. The side dishes outstanding. Eating away from the dining room once was fine, otherwise, I enjoy the dining room. The food is fine and service great. I like to share with others and enjoy the lively conversation. It was quite hot while on excursions and that was good. Read Less

when you make a complaint, you expect to be listened to? 1) boarded on the Saturday and balcony area and glass were dirty - at first I thought the glass was frosted??!! 2) rear deck on boat (deck 17 ) was filthy - a day at sea and noticed stained decks and loungers. 3) formal night - we chose not to attend as ive had more black tie events than I care to mention and didn't want to cart my tux around in a case on holiday. however regular restaurant was poorly staffed with no clean tables and crockery/cutlery ( ironically we heard later on that the formal dining was in fact a shambles as they had not prepared for the uptake of so many people....really?? ) 4) door lock failed and despite maids master key could still not gain access to cabin - was told the supervisor was busy and would get there later. this was the final straw and I proceeded to "throw my toys out of the pram" at client services. no apology and no reply or update for the rest of the cruise - they didn't give a toss evidently. I then wrote a letter to princess highlighting all the issues and got a stock response basically saying " oh dear that's a pity - better luck next time" ive been with this lot before and was pleasant but this time it was bad, but what really rubbed was that they weren't really bothered!...NCL next time thank you very much!
