The embarkation was terrible it took 41/2 hours to get us all aboard. There were three cruise ships, 9,000 people boarding at the same time. Lots of people saying they have never experienced such a wait and would never do this cruise again. Definately put me off going on a Princess cruise again. Ended up leaving an hour late! The food was mediocre, and please when you do an Italian dish, look it up as it was was not made properly. Our room was cold and a shower would be better then a bath as people with certain disabilities find it hard to climb in. Otherwise the entertainment was great, but the casino could have more of a variety of slot machines. Ship is very clean and so is the restaurant. When making milkshakes straws are used NOT spoons. The staff were excellent and very helpful. The advertising for Effee needs to be toned down a lot. On the whole I had fun. Read Less

DW and I choose this cruise due to no flying. LA round trip to Alaska. First kept getting delayed boarding notices. Was supposed to board around Noon but instead 6 PM. Then our traditional dining at Allegro which was booked and confirmed 1 1/2 years go was changed to Anytime. Had to take vacation time to change it to a not as good substitute set seating dining at Symphony. The room steward was perfect, he met all our needs and went beyond the call of duty, gave him the highest rating on the post cruise eval. Entertainment was uneven. The main production numbers were cut short. We had done the Royal last year October and we saw more versions of the Princess singers and dancers. Some of the guest entertainers were very good and some not. Jennifer Singer was terrific. Was disappointed in the Princess whale excursion out of Ketchican, saw none. The Juneau Tour and Whale Watch was great, saw many whales, saw 3 spouting next to each other, several flippers hitting the water, several diving with tails in the air, and several jumping out of the water and making very large splashes. Food was good or just OK in main dining, worse with few exceptions at Horizon, very good at International Café, very good at Alfredo's, excellent at Sabatini's. Balcony cabin was smaller than older Princess ships. Matt O, cruise director, was all over the ship and terrific, made the otherwise too many sea days in a row do-able. An on that note, Victoria was skipped due to the last portion of the new extended dock not being finished due to that part lost a sea during a storm. Princess should have substituted another port, say Vancouver. Read Less

Our cruise was almost 5 hours late leaving San Pedro (LA). Because of this our port time in both Ketchikan and Juneau was severely shortened. Our stop in Victoria, B.C. was skipped entirely! Very disappointed. Buffet foid was always cold! Even breakfast items like oatmeal, eggs and waffles were cold. Very minimal low carb or low sugar items available. Sabattinis extra cost restaurant was disappointing. Not worth the extra. Crown Grill extra cost restaurant was superb. Our cabin steward Jadeah was supern! Room was kept made up and very clean. Shore excursions were very goid even in limited by time in port in both Ketchikan and Juneau. Yukon Adventure and Whites Pass & Yukon Railway excursion in Skagway is not to be missed! We saw orcas on our whale watch from Juneau and bears eating salmon on our excursion from Ketchikan. Our ship did not allow us to go ashore in Victoria, BC as was advertised. Overall our cruise experience on the Royal Princess was positive. The extremely late departure from LA cause several very large disappointments later in the cruise. Read Less

On board: the room, balcony, was adequate; food also adequate, however, if pastry is your thing you will not find a decent croissant on Princess; flour to fat ratio all wrong. The room attendant was very friendly and helpful. In fact the entire staff was very well trained, helpful and friendly, with the exclusion of one surly female at the spa reception desk. On board lectures limited. Entertainment was enjoyable. Cruise entertainment director energetic, personable, funny and enthusiastic. Ports of Call: time spent in each port was sufficient. However, the ports of call were all geared towards retail sales with tee shirt shops and jewelry stores three to a block. Excursions offered were what one would expect. We choose a rafting trip. However, the waterproof gear given to us was wet and dirty on the INSIDE, even the boots were wet with sand and pebbles inside Not a pleasant experience. This was our second Princess cruise and probably our last. Not because of one bad excursion experience, rather a culmination of the entire Princess Cruise experience. Read Less

The cruise was fine. Standard for a traditional line. The ship had entertainment venues that were waaaayyyy too small (more than once it was standing room only in the main theater and we left). I did NOT like getting asked/pitched to purchase drinks in the dining room however. Especially when we said no and they continued to pitch it. Previous reviews mentioned the international cafe as a great place to grab food that should cost money. I don’t know why to be honest. The food never changed here and the desserts were exactly the same as the buffet. The buffet food was standard: large selection but mediocre quality. Some of it was really good (they had a pasta that was delicious and the waffles in the morning were a staple) and some was really bad (sushi - it could barely even be called that and Mexican fajita meat supposedly but it just tasted bad). The dining room was traditional. I was a little upset that on formal night they allowed guests in with sweatshirts and jeans (other cruises would’ve asked that they change or eat somewhere else). Rather if they’re going through the effort of setting things up for formal with a higher menu and staff and ask people to dresses up yet you don’t maintain that standard for your guests what’s the point? The main dining room has decent food. They have a staple menu that never changes (which I have mixed feelings on: on one hand you’re guests have something to fall back on, on the other it seems like a cop out so you don’t have to try as hard). The other menu changed daily and was generally good. I’m fairly picky and had something to eat every night. As far as princess themselves (company - not cruise staff) I will not be returning. I arranged flights through them. No where did it mention the port is an hour drive from the air port in that. It had a section that said call travel agent to arrange shuttle to port which is fine but that makes me think a taxi will work. So three days prior to cruise I look into getting a taxi and realize how far it is and the restricted tunnel you have to go through that many taxis won’t take (it can take up to 30 minutes to get through if you don’t time it right). I called my travel agent and they called princess only to be told they can’t add it on with only three days (why?) and I should’ve booked it sooner. Fine. Mishandled and miscommunicated. But fine. I booked a private company for The same price and it’s less money that I gave to Princess. Add on my issue with flights that changed constantly and needed rebooked for more expensive options. Flights were booked through the cruise line, they called me at some 800 number to ask me to change them because it supposedly didn’t follow their requested windows. I didn’t answer because well it’s an 800 number I assume it’s a robot so they left a message. I called back to figure out what’s happening and was put on hold. 40 minutes later I’m still on hold. So I hang up (it told me it was the end of the day and and they probably wouldn’t get to me - super great after waiting 40 minutes). I called back in the middle of the day the following and I asked how long the hold was before they did and was told an hour. An hour. On hold. For an issue that wasn’t reflected in their website. When they’re the ones that called me. With no call back option like every other company that has long hold times. Dealing with my cable company was easier and friendlier honestly. Even if the cruise was great I wouldn’t be using princess again from that miserable experience. Also I never changed my flight and it was fine and they never called me back so I guess it wasn’t that but it an issue? When I brought this up to an agent they said nothing. Customer service on the ship (shore excursion desk) wasn’t much better. I had a question and was asked if I didn’t read the excursion instead of them just answering my question. Thanks princess. You get me so frustrated before the cruise that you’re right I will come back new. Most of the cruise staff on the actual ship was great. The shows and entertainment were all geared towards like 60 year olds. So entertainment for the under 30s isn’t really a thing. Also! There is no where to hide in this ship. There’s a “library” that’s right off the main piazza and is also the computer lab for anyone who needs access to their reservations. It has exactly 4 uncomfortable chairs for reading and you have to put up with sound leaking in from the center point of entertainment on the ship and people being frustrated over their reservations. Everywhere else is a meeting room that rotates events. The only place to be alone and not kicked out or bothered is the deck. On an Alaskan cruise. Or your room. Not great. Read Less

This was suggested by our travel agent because we wanted to pair it with a land Cruisetour. Land tour was amazing. The ship seemed very old. You could see where repairs in a number of areas needed to be made. Shopping was limited aboard ship and very expensive. Dining room food was pretty good, but Horizon Court was pretty bad. Entertainment was so so. Very little interactment with the staff. Unable to hear an announcements in our cabin and even if you could hear them the PA system was very muffled. It seemed like there wasn’ enough staff in the dining rooms. Sometimes we waited quite a while for service after getting water poured. Sometimes we were asked if we wanted a drink and sometimes not and sometimes we had to ask them or remind them. After such a wonderful time on our land tour the cruise part was pretty disappointing. Accepted captain’s invite to cocktail party, asked a few passing waiters for a drink(would have been our first) none returned- a message of this was put in captain’s dropbox, we never got a reply, we didn’t bother going to the next FREE cocktail party. At Victoria port we were told about the beautiful gardens – hard to see when you arrive at 7pm. , for other ports the imfo sheet listed many sites, but most were outside the map supplied? We privately booked a -Hop on Hop off at Honolulu, found our way to town and collected tickets( where told because Princess didn’t get enough booking, Hop onHop off, wont invited to the port.)It’s the little thing you remember. We stayed in one of the larger suites C409 (Penthouse), and we're disappointed mainly regarding the balcony, although the cabin was dated. The furniture was old with black mildew on most surfaces and in disrepair. The lounge chairs had stained cushions that were often wet, and the hardware was so corroded that they could not be adjusted. With that said, the crew was overall very nice. The food was good. Alaska was spectacular! Will I cruise on Princess again - NO! As a frequent cruiser on Royal Caribbean, I will return to their ships. I was told that I would be happy with Princess, but plain and simply the Grand Princess is not worth it. To me the balcony is my favorite part of a cruise and I was not able to enjoy it on this ship. Princess should completely refurnish this ship or retire it. Unfortunately, I was told that this ship was refurbished in March of 2019, this is absolutely untrue. Door locks were being changed out in the middle of our cruise. This created problems for our door closing properly and could only lock it by shutting the door extremely hard. Several times I went up to my door and was able to push it open without any use of the key card. At one point there was a problem with a public toilet on the top deck. I reported black coming out of the toilet to the front desk (as in the water was black). When I went to the sink, the water was black/brown there, too. I showed the first crew person that I could find. He agreed it was a problem - they did NOT close the restroom! I checked the next day, and the water in the toilet was clearer, but the bowl was black and off colored water came out of the sink. I immediately went and used lots of hand sanitizer. Our travel agent has contacted Princess with photos - unfortunately they have not responded. Read Less

Let me start with explaining why I only gave this a 3 out of 5. It started out great in that it was a pleasant surprise that we were able to board right after going through all the check in procedures to start taking advantage of the boats’ amenities. Get there early, as it does take a while to get through check-in/customs. Now, in my eyes, a cruise ship should be fit & ready to sail according to its itinerary that you paid for. Ours was not. Did we sail at 4:30 as scheduled, NO, did we sail at 7:00 pm, NO, did we sail as they said the delay would take til at midnight – NO. We sailed at 3:00 am of which at dinnertime the evening before while still in port but on the boat, they announced would have to change the itinerary as we would no longer be able to go to our first stop Juneau. REALLY, Juneau, the capital of Alaska and port probably 100% of the people were most looking forward to as it was only a 2 port stop and to be our most northern part of Alaska we were sailing to, so to look forward to excursions like the glaciers, dog sledding, seeing the wildlife, etc. Most, if not all, booked specifically to see “Alaska” and in changing Juneau to now go to Rupert, British Columbia as the alternate port was to say the least VERY DISAPPOINTING. If I’d of known of this change before sailing, and given the option of not going & getting our money back, I would gladly have rescheduled and used that money to book a future ALASKAN only cruise. So the small compensation we got for the “inconvenience” by no means made up for this loss. Now, once we did sail, as far as rating the Island Princess for its amenities, restaurants, shows, cabin, staff, etc, I would rate it a 5+. Having said that, there is a lot of advertising for the boat shopping (and in ports) both in leaving paperwork at your cabin door and within the events listed in the Patter newsletter. We got caught up in going to some events that were nothing more than advertising and they get you by offering free items or free draws. Once we figured this out we could get on with some of the more fun/informative events. A lot of events overlap so you truly have to pick & choose which is better for you and not falling for these advertised events makes it easier to weed out. I wish in the Patter it would have listed the duration of events and a brief explanation of them. All the music and entertainers were top-notch. Cruise Director Natalie as announcer or host was an enhancement to all entertainment, she was high energy and so funny. The cooking demonstration with Exec Chef, Maitre d’Hotel & Natalie was so funny, followed by a galley tour, was one of our fave events. The Naturalist Mark Harris gave great lectures. I only wish he would have narrated more landmarks along the way through the outside speakers on the deck (especially when whales or dolphins were nearby), or to know where we were, as spectacular sites when close to land. Had a mid-ship balcony cabin that is well worth it, just to look out when you are in your room and having a lot of light come in is well worth it. Plus being mid-ship is the most stable part of the ship. Not that it rocked at that much but did in a few parts, for the most-part was calm sailing. Didn’t take a beverage package as you got free water & coffee at meals, plus O.J. for breakfast that was good enough for us. Plus we did bring on board our own water bottles and some pop cans that we kept in our mini fridge and took out with us throughout the day that was great. We also didn’t take an alcoholic package but I think if we were on a longer 7 day cruise we would have. A lot of different bars w/different types of entertainment, singers, quizes, karaoke, etc. all excellent. No problems getting in any of the restaurants and the staff & food at all were excellent. We did pay extra for going into 2 out of the 3 fine dining restaurants – the Italian and the New Orleans/Steakhouse. Both were an additional $29, well worth it. They opened the New Orleans restaurant once for lunch for British pub food at no additional cost, which was delicious. The outlet that served pizza was also very good. Basically ALL the food was out of this world delicious. We bought an internet plan before the cruise paying $19.99 for up to 4 devices. We did have a few issues at the beginning losing connection but after going to the info desk to get it straightened out we were good to go. Worked for the most part – spotty a few times, but still worth it. We had taken U.S. money with us thinking if you bought anything on board you paid for it by cash (shopping/drinks, etc), but you don’t. You show your room key and everything is charged through that to your account. One good thing with the internet is you could go online to your account to keep track of all your extra charges which was nice. Also know you are automatically charged a $14.50/p.p./p.d. tipping fee. You do have the option to change this to whatever you want. Just go to the service desk on board & tell them what you want to change it to and it will be changed on your account. This boat not only had an outdoor pool w/hottubs but also an indoor pool w/hottubs. Handy for cool or rainy days. Also basketball court, shuffleboard, mini-golf but those were outdoors so could only partake in when not raining. Also indoor ping-pong and lots of other games to par-take in. They also had a library with books/cards/games that was popular. A Theatre with lovely night-time shows. And an outdoor huge screen with movies showing at different times, casino, and much more activities/shopping stores/fine art sales, etc. Only negative of a cruise, if it really is a negative, is there is there is so much going on at all times, it is a little hard to fit in all you want to do. We tried at one time to just sit & relax to read our books and listen to our music through earphones but then quickly realized we were missing out on an event we wanted to see, so quickly abandoned the R&R time and off we went - LOL! This was an approx. 2000 person cruise with over 900 staff. Just a perfect size we thought, where it was never overly busy in any one area for the most part, and I would say about 85% adults vs children. It was a very well-run ship. Would we take another cruise, definitely, would we take it on Princess after that delay/change in itinerary, not sure. Read Less

We enjoyed the destination and staff, but there are any number of areas that need to be improved. Entertainment, food quality and the land cruise portion come to mind. However, the glaciers and landmass so spectacular its difficult not to be in awe - so definitely visit Alaska. The land portion was spectacular in terms of the natural beauty (and we hit the perfect time for fall leaf color). Unfortunately the staff were at the end of the season and it showed in terms of responsiveness and behavior (screams from the kitchen two night in a row). We understand these young adults have worked hard for the entire season, however, this was our vacation and this impacted our enjoyment. The Royal Princess cruise director was excellent and tried hard, however, the actual show content was kind of embarrassing at times. The talent tried hard but the actual productions were disjointed and do not compare to Norwegian. We also had the same comedian as the main entertainment two night - he was great - but two out of limited number of nights on board. The spa area has an area called 'the Enclave' and we were sold on the extra cost because it looked great. The problem is that it is need of a face lift and the number of passes sold is misrepresented (it varies by who you speak with!). I shared the feedback with the manager and she was engaged and grateful, however, nothing actually changed (there was still no hot water in locker room!). The dining hall service was very good, but the food was very much hit or miss. Read Less

The stops at Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan were just opportunities for the cruise line to sell souvenirs from their own stores. Some of the tours were very good. We felt pressured into buying continuously on the ship. Expensive souvenirs, art and photos. Food was very good. Formal evening again just an opportunity to sell photos. The cruise of the glacier bays was stunning. Made up for a lot of the other stuff. We also felt we were in a retirement home. So many people who couldn’t move themselves. Breakfast was good and choices were fine. A lot of fried salty food but there were alternatives if that’s not for you. Embarkation was terrible. No fault of the ship. We have been on about 15 cruises, last one 15 years ago. We have been all over the Caribbean, Mexican Rivera a number of times. Been through the Panama Canal, New Zealand and Australia. First cruise I have been on were I was charged for a soda. First cruise I have been on were they wanted to charge me $40 per person per day to look off the stern of the ship. Charged $29 per day service charge for my stateroom and 18% for every drink or soda I ordered. And that was after I paid $4,000 for the cruise. This will be the last Princess Cruise for me. The stateroom was nice, the service was great and the entertainment was good. That embarkation and debarkation was handled great. They did a great job handling luggage on and off the ship. Picked it up at the airport, next time we saw it was in our stateroom. Getting off, put our luggage outside our stateroom and didn’t see it again until we were at the airport. I have to give them a excellent grade on that. Read Less

We are elite with princess and last cruised on Princess Grand 3-2019 for the Mexico Rivera cruise. This trip was Alaska, 10 days round trip from San Francisco. Its my opinion that service on Princess Grand has improved. Staff constantly ask if everything is ok. horizon court seems to have improved. We are a fan of the club class dinning option and each meal we get an additional item not on the regular menu. Wait staff in club class dining is excellent. Our head waiter was Giovanni and he always fixed an extra dish, usually a delicious pasta. All our excursions were excellent, timely etc. I think this is here Princess excels. What we are not a fan of is the constant promotion of sales and the unnecessary sales flyers that clutter the Princess patter news letter left in our state room. It is an unnecessary waste of paper and printer ink. Passengers should be allowed to opt out of sales promotions and save the environment. The piazza on decks 6 & 7 reminds me of a garage sale with all the tables of sales items. I think & have suggested that the sales items be moved to improve the ambiance of the piazza area. Internet speed has improved since Grand has been wired for medallion, although not on it yet. Entertainment, Grand is still offering the British Invasion and Motor City which we have seen several times over the years. I must say the British Invasion this cruise was the best performed of any of this musical. The Hungarian strings and Piano in the Piazza was superb. This is another area that we like the performances in the Piazza. Read Less

7 days to Alaska. We were supposed to go to Sawyer glacier but the capt. decided the weather was too bad to go. That was to be the highlight of the cruise. The star is an older ship but still looks good for the most part. Be very careful on the Lido deck when it has water on it. My wife slipped twice and the second time banged her knee pretty good. The deck is very slippery. We had a table for 2 confirmed for early seating only to find out it got changed to a table of 8. We were told they couldn't change it so we went to anytime seating and got a table for 2. The menu in the dinning room had 3 very good nights and 4 that were just so so. We ended up with salmon that is on the everyday side of the menu. The Buffet on lido deck wasn't very good for the most part. Pizza was just sauce and cheese on cardboard. Hamburgers were the best part of that deck. They have soft serve ice cream all day. The shows were good for the most part.. The magician was good, the so called comedian just wanted to swear which isn't funny but a big turn off. It was too bad he was on twice. The internet was very slow., other ships have much faster internet. The windows in the public areas were dirty and some you could hardly look through. Being elite status, if you are a drinker you get free mini bar, all the drinks you want at the captains party and free wine tasting. If you don't drink you get nothing-just a bottle of water. they discriminate against nondrinkers. Ports of call were Skayway, Ketchikan, Judeau, and Victoria (from 7pm to 11 pm) so you are there at night. Being in Alaska is always nice and pretty. Read Less

I had not sailed on Princess before and not sure I will again. I suggest before selecting a cruise, check the age of the ship and when it was last updated. The Golden Princes was in need of updating and repair. It was older and seemed very sad and dingy, the carpet needed to be replaced through out the ship. In addition, the staff was not very friendly and they charged for everything...even bottled water. I would rather they just bump up the price a few dollars to cover for bottled water and don’t charge. On board the ship the food was not all that good and lacked variety. It felt as though the the crew was tired since this was one of the last cruises this season. Although we only participated in one onboard activity (Bingo), I can't speak to the entertainment on board. The one Bingo session seemed lack luster and tired. The was a large amount of excursions to choose from and we were pleased with the ones we selected. Prior to the cruise, we took the escorted land tour and it was excellent! First class service and the food & tours were really good. Most meals were included as we were given vouchers for the restaurants on site at the lodges. The lodges were not updated as much as I thought they should be but overall there wasn't a problem with the accommodations. Our tour guide went above and beyond to accommodate the variety of people in the tour with diatery needs and/or special requests for accommodations I suggest, to do your homework before spending as much money as I did. Chose it because it was in our time line and it was an appropriate price. I had traveled with Princes before and I was looking for the good service. I was terribly disappointed. Princess booked our flights to and from. Our flight arrived just before our cruise. No one greeted us and no photos. When we tried to make reservations for specialty restaurants, there was only one line and one person to make the reservations for the entire ship. We never got through on the phone line and spent valuable time waiting on the phone. We went to one specialty restaurant to make reservations in person. The staff told us they could not only the person in charge could, and he would not be available for a while. Check back, more wasted time. We finally reached a person on the third day and had a lovely, delicious dinner. I have never had to work so hard on a cruise before, Outrageous! When we went for happy hour before dinner, we were told happy hours had stopped on Princess Lines a while ago. We asked to order horsd'oeuveres and were told none were available only peanuts were available. This is ridiculous and disappointing. Who ever heard of not being able to order them on a cruise. We could go upstairs for pizza, hot dogs and hamburgers or to the buffet. We couldn't just order a drink, appetizers and relax. We would have to chase around for food.Try that for a happy hour. Not a good thing. We have always enjoyed the towel animals on our bed. We were told only people with children got them because too many towels were being taken home, Excuse me. You make enough money to afford a few towels. Our tender told me he would make one if I wanted. I said no. You would have thought he would have done it anyway to appease my question. I always looked forward to these towel animals when I get to my room after a fun, exciting, tiring day. We left the ship to go on the magnificent train ride to Denali Princes Wilderness Lodge. The train ride was wonderful and the narrator was so well informed, friendly and a good speaker. This train ride is not to be missed. The beauty is incredible. However, when we arrived, our luggage had been lost. I had my back-pack with my medications and little else, and so did my roommate. When we inquired, the desk told us they would call us and keep track of where and when it was coming. We did have someone else's luggage in our room which was picked up later. Towards the evening we inquired again about our luggage, and they said no information, however, they had never bothered to advise us. If we didn't check with them, they never kept us abreast of anything. Finally, we wanted to take a shower & change our shirts, so the front desk gave each of us a voucher for $25, All the shirts in the shop started around $36 up. Went back & they gave us another $25 voucher, This only bought us a shirt each and minimal toiletries and nothing else. Next day, again, we had to inquire about our luggage, but they had no information. No clothes. We did the best we could with what we had. We had no clothes, curling iron, make up, underwear, etc which is so important on a vacation. We did our Denali National Park bus tour which was exciting, beautiful and so enjoyable. We saw bear, Moose, reindeer, fox, and even a coyote. Our tour stops were fun. We even road a short distance on a dog sled. Great. When we got back, no suitcases and we had to inquires. They never called us. Next day we went on a Riverboat cruise down the Chena River. It was great, we saw lots of beautiful homes, stopped at a Athabasca village and toured it to see how those people lived in these primitive places. We loved this and the River Boat, they even gave us Salmon with crackers. Good tasting. We went to inquire again and complained we needed more funds to purchase our needs. They gave us each an additional $50 each. We could purchase little because of the high cost of everything. We left next day to go to Fairbanks. FINALLY, we had our suitcases in our room. this, of course, was the day before we left to fly home. Not a pleasant situation. I felt I was begging when I talked to the front desk about compensation for our necessities. They said they were being more than fair. Not to our estimation. As a result, I will NOT take a Princess Cruise again. I do plan on taking other cruises with other companies. Read Less

I had higher expectations because Princess high end reputation. I booked because itinerary and destination ports. I have 10+ cruise experience with Carnival and Norwegian. This is my First time with Princess and I’m very disappointed. Very pour entertainment performance quality, small food portions, lack of variety or options at Lido food court and restaurant dinners, ship outdated revamp need, bad coffee including the bistro, no blankets to see the outside movies, very old towels at pools and room, rest of the staff looks very exhausted because it was almost the end of the season, no engaged, excellent room cleaning, specialty restaurant (Baju) was good and learnt experience, excursion by Princess are ok but seems pricey, this is cater for senior citizens, gambler or sinkers, not to much entertainment during the day or night, not good value for what I paid. Not planning to book Princess Cruises because this experience. Read Less

My first cruise was on a royal Caribbean and it was wonderful all the way around . This time I chose a Princess Star Cruise. Because I had heard it was a higher end cruise I did not mind spending the extra money... it was definitely a let down. Various toilets all over the ship were stopped up the entire trip. The food felt as if I were having leftovers for the first three days at the buffet area. Most everything on the bar was the same each day at breakfast and lunch with a few changes. A lot of items did not taste fresh made. Coffee dispenser did not work properly some of the times they put out water I went through three coffee cups one day before I found a clean one. The man in front of me laughed and said it takes three. Dinner in the main dining room was also disappointing . Lobster was rubbery and did not taste fresh, NY strip and fish were delicious. The rest of the meals were nothing to write home about. Service In the main dining room was excellent. The comedy show was fantastic. The rest of the entertainment was good . I would consider this a low-key cruise more geared for seniors or someone looking for a more laid-back relaxed atmosphere I definitely would not call it a party ship. BEDS were great. There were four of us traveling together and we all felt the same way. I personally do not feel the princess cruise was worth the extra money Read Less

I had taken a Baltic Sea cruise with Princess last year and loved it so Princess seemed like a natural choice for Alaska this year. Big mistake. The ship, The Star Princess is older but this should not be an excuse to have filthy carpet in a cabin or light switches falling off the wall. They offered to clean or change carpet during our cruise, both of which we declined because of the fumes associated with both choices. Throughout the cruise there were noisy children playing on the balcony next door very early in the morning (before 7 AM). I called Guest Services and was told they would send someone. I don't know if anyone spoke to this family but someone came to my cabin to let me know that situation would be handled. The kids were not controlled by their parents throughout the cruise and it was very unpleasant for us. The food was mediocre, although the meal in the Crown Grill Specialty restaurant was very good. One day during Anytime Dining I bit into a roll not realizing it was most probably a day old because it was hard and a piece of tooth (molar) broke off! The entertainment was good and we enjoyed the Cruise Director who did keep us laughing. Never got to go on the excursion to Tracy Arm. One of the excursion boats broke down so not everyone could go. The excursion team decided to choose passengers to go based on the date that they reserved the excursion. Supposedly those who booked first got to go. We booked the excursion in February 2019. When we realized folks who booked as late as August were going on the excursion we were irate. We were very upset. Excursion staff became very annoyed with us and described the situation as a "minor inconvenience". Everywhere you looked someone was trying to sell you something. Not giving cabin lowest score because the bed was very comfortable.Disembarkation was smooth. Guest Services staff helpful and knowledgeable. Will try another line next time. Read Less

Overall a good cruise but lacking in a few areas. Had great weather and smooth seas. We found most of the staff very friendly but the food grill folks weren’t as helpful. When asked to toast a bun they wouldn’t do it for a passenger. Also the coffee bar staff struggled to smile and wouldn’t even give a black cup of coffee without charging someone. We had excursions planned and those were good. One problem with the Tracy Arm excursion (one of the boats broke) and half the guests couldn’t go. While disappointing the cruise line did refund the excursion and covered our other excursion in Juneau. The speciality restaurants (Sabatinos and Crown Grill) were great! Excellent food and staff. The regular dining was just ok and the buffet had much to be desired. As a first time cruisers we were not disappointed nor were we blown away or impressed. We heard from other passengers that other ships in Princess are better and that other lines are also better so we will give it another try. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the rates, itinerary and because it left from and returned to Seattle. I was told by friends that the food was mediocre so we were prepared. We weren’t surprised, the food was mediocre. However, the crew was very friendly and accommodating. The ship was clean and inviting. The best parts were the ports, Ketchikan, Tracy Arm Fjord, Juneau, Skagway and Victoria. We saw salmon jumping and seals eating them in Ketchikan. We also ate at Alaska Fish House, very good! In Juneau we ate King Crab at Tracy’s King Crab Shack and used Alaska Tales for seeing Mendenhall Glacier and whale watching...highly recommend! In Skagway we ate at Skagway Brewery and had a Princess excursion to see White Pass Summit and it was breathtaking. We didn’t see much of Victoria because dock time was between 7pm and midnight. Tracy Arm Fjord was amazing! The ship turned 360 for a while so everyone could see all of the gorgeous scenery. It was a highlight of the cruise. Overall, we had a fabulous time. Prior to the cruise start we stayed at Silver Cloud Inn on Lake Union in Seattle. A great location with free shuttle service to Pike Place Market. We took a walk around part of the lake to look at the iconic Seattle houseboats before embarking. I highly recommend it! Read Less

We have always gone Cruising to warm water but so many people said how great the Alaska Cruise is. Why? We couldn't walk the deck while out to sea or use the balcony. It's too cold. They didn't serve any local Alaskan dishes onboard. Only Alaskan inspired European dishes that were more European than Alaskan. (even the baked Alaska) We couldn't afford the excursions that cost $$$$ hundreds of dollars more per person than on warm water destinations. There are only two kinds of shops in the towns, jewelry shops and souvenir shops with the same stuff. Didn't get to see any glaciers or wildlife other than salmon in the river at Ketchican. It just was not a value to me. I would rather sit on a warm beach and snorkel in warm water for the money. The only highlight was some of the entertainment. See you on the warm beaches from now on, I learned my lesson. Read Less

We have been on 7 cruises, the last 4 have been Princess Cruises, this was #5. We loved Alaska, it was beautiful, that is all I can say good about this cruise on the Star Princess. We paid for an upgraded balcony cabin, when we got to our cabin it was so small that it only had the one chair in it, the desk chair. The room steward told us the room was so small they had to take the club chair out of the room. So that left either my husband or I always sitting on the bed or on the balcony. The room smelled like waste the whole time from the bathroom. The first evening when we left the cabin to go to dinner the balcony sliding glass door would not lock. We had to track down someone to fix it. Then we get to the dining, when our travel agent made the reservations, she said table for 6 on traditional dining. I changed it to table for two in January when I first had to contact Princess, I had to contact them many more times and always asked if we had a table for 2 and was assured we did. But when we got to the dining room we were told there was no tables for 2 open and had to go to The Capri Dining room and maybe they had a table for us or the buffet. Luckily the boss found us a table for 2, but we had no permanent table the whole trip, every night it was a maybe we will maybe we wont. And we noticed the food was really not up to the standards of other cruise we took with Princess The ship was showing her age and by far was the worst we had been on in the Princess fleet. Not sure if we will sail with Princess again. Read Less

The cabin had a filthy stained rug and film over the mirrors. All the electrical outlets did not work. The urine smell coming from toilet was strong. They offered to replace the carpet but would have to move all our belongings. They offered to shampoo carpet but the smell from the chemical may cause allergic reaction so we said no. The casino floor staff was hard to find and during smoking hours they did not put out ashtrays until asked. The food was just okay unlike my last trip. We had to revert to anytime dining to get good food. The desserts were bland but the cookies were great. The wait staff was usually there to take drink orders. The cruise director and other crew members were fantastic. There was a problem with our excursion and the person in charge had a printout and chose who would go based on when they booked the excursion. The order was all wrong so people who just booked the excursion went while those that booked 6 months prior did not go. Read Less

A cruise to Alaska was my dream trip! Even though the cruise ship was not over the top and you can tell it has some wear and tear, the destination was SPECTACULAR! DINING -- Roger Mora in anytime dining is the BEST waiter ever! You can take 2 bottles of wine per person and some water on board -- do it! It will save you lots of $$$$! Just uncork the wine before you go to dinner and you won't have to pay the corkage fee. :) The martini bar staff are hysterical! SHOPPING -- Don't get roped into the jewelry sales, these "used care salesman" are too much! Save your money! Make sure you load the app right away. There are specials that you can use the first day that no one tells you about, but they are on the app. Go to the shopping meeting in the theater to get special coupons and city maps. Don't forget to take your coupons with you to town! ONBOARD APP/INTERNET -- You can also use it to text each other on the ship for free. This was very helpful in keeping track of our group. The internet package is expensive and not really worth it. Unless you are a social media hound, don't bother paying the extra. I was so buy having fun, I didn't really use it. Plus, you can only use it on the ship. When you are in town, it doesn't work. I could have bought a roaming plan from AT&T for $80 less. ENTERTAINMENT -- Make sure you go see the comedians and shows, we were not disappointed! a nice surprise was the Escape Room -- it was a lot of fun -- even solving it with strangers! Be sure to watch the Wake Show - it has important info! PICTURES -- The easy disembark ramp usually has the picture opportunity, go early for the formal night (the photographers take breaks right at the busy time), do lots of poses and have fun! We took stick on mustaches for our formal night and that was the best one of them all! Beware of the picture package prices -- they are EXPENSIVE! Read Less
