Our family of 12 sailed on Norwegian's Pride of America on the 12/28/19 cruise. We had a wonderful trip and I can't say enough about this ship, crew and itinerary. Our family was 6 adults (ages 39 through 64) and 6 kids (ages 4 through 12). Our vacation package included 1 night pre-cruise at the Hawaiian Hilton Village, pre-paid gratuities, specialty restaurants, and $50 per port excursion discount. We used the Norwegian Master Card prior to the cruise and had some onboard credit to use on the ship. We arrived in Hawaii on 12/27 our flight landed in Honolulu at noon and we were in our rooms with our luggage at the Hawaiian Hilton Village by 3:30pm. We had pre-scheduled Roberts Hawaii airport shuttle for transportation from the airport to the hotel. They met us at baggage claim with a sign and helped with all of the luggage. Registration at the hotel was easy, although we did wait in line. Norwegian had a booth at the hotel and we checked in with them too, they offered us extra luggage tags and answered our questions. They were so sweet and helpful, they got our vacation off to a great start. The complex was massive and interesting, there were shops everywhere and pools and a beautiful beach. We wandered around the shops, had sushi and shaved ice. That evening we sat in the sand on the beach and watched the fireworks. We were exhausted from travel so we ordered pizzas for dinner and ate in our rooms. We were all just so excited to be in Hawaii. On Saturday we had a 1/2 day Pearl Harbor tour booked through Viator. They picked us up from the hotel at 7am and we arrived at Pearl Harbor by 0830. We had time to tour the USS Bowfin and go through the museum before the movie and boat ride to the USS Arizona. This was a powerful and sobering tour, the movie was so well done. We were so glad that we did this excursion before our cruise At 11:30 we were picked up and the tour driver took us to the port. NCL transferred our luggage from the hotel to the ship and we never even had to go back there. We arrived at the port around 12:30, check-in was easy; there was a lounge for suite guests that we hardly had time to enjoy, we were on the ship and having lunch at Cagney's by 1pm. While we were eating they announced that our cabins were ready. We were in suites, 12008 (starboard), 12058 (port) and 13012 (starboard), and these suites were great! Roomy, beautiful, lots of room to unpack, an attendant (Larry) an a butler (Georgia). 13012 was bigger than the other 2 suites and worked well for a family of 6. It has a huge balcony! There was sparkling wine and flowers in the suites as we checked in. Having lunch at Cagney's and the gifts in the room set the stage for the entire vacation. We went to the Welcome Aboard show, to dinner in the Skyline and to bed early. The next morning we woke up in Maui. 2 of us scheduled a helicopter tour of the road to Hana (we knew we couldn't drive it with 6 kids). The tour was spectacular! We aw caverns, the coastline, multiple waterfalls, Jurassic Rock and George Harrison's home. This tour was through NCL and the $50 immediately showed up on our account. We were back on the ship by noon, had lunch and then went off to the beach to catch up with the family. They were at, Kihei, Kamaole Beach Park II (a 30 minute Uber ride) and it was a great beach; we swam in the warm water until about 3 then headed back to the ship. The next morning at 2:30am we were up and ready for the sunrise Haleakala Crater tour. Nettie was our driver and she got us to the top of the crater by 5:45, so we had a great viewing spot by the rail, sunrise wasn't until 6:50. It was crowded up there! It was pitch dark when we arrived and the night sky was amazing. I saw 4 shooting stars! We had about an hour of standing in windy 30 degree weather before the sun came up. Even though we dressed warmly, it was freezing! I wore a long sleeved t-shirt, a heavy sweater, my North Face jacket, hat and gloves, but only my sneakers. By the time we were back in the bus, my feet felt like frozen blocks. Despite the cold this was an experience that we will remember the rest of our lives. Only 2 adults went, I think it would have been difficult for the kids. We were back on the ship by 9:30, in time for breakfast. Then we got an Uber to meet the family in Lahaina. A beautiful little town (full of interesting shops) and the Uber ride to the town was great too! That evening we used our restaurant perk and had a wonderful dinner at La Cucina and saw the Lights, Camera, Action show. We enjoyed all the shows, our surprise was there were always seats in the theater (even for 12), it wasn't crowded like other cruises we've been on. The next day was New Years Eve and we woke up at Hilo. We had the Volcano National Park tour for all 12 us, our guide's name was John and we all enjoyed it. We saw steam vents, a lava flow from the 70's and on the way back we stopped at a orchid nursery. They had an orchid that smelled like chocolate. That evening in the Gold Rush Saloon they did the New Year's Eve count down for every time zone. We are from the East coast so we got to scream happy new year at 7pm! Then we went to Liberty Dining Room for dinner with our cruise supplied New Year's Eve swag. The show that evening was Wonders! A Magical Experience... it was fantastic! We were meant to be in Kona the next day and had a kayaking tour scheduled. We were up and ready to go when the captain announced that we were leaving because the tender service was cancelled because of rocky seas. We had an unexpected sea day to enjoy the ship. We sailed by the Molokai sea cliffs and saw whales and dolphins from our balcony. The men in our party when to the Whiskey tasting in the Napa Wine bar. They had fun! Dinner in Jefferson Bistro that evening....also wonderful.. We loved all of the specialty restaurants..so glad we had that perk. On Thursday in Kauai, we had a beach day at Poipu Beach Park The best beach ever! There were giant sea turtle sleeping on the beach. We all snorkeled and saw the most beautiful fish, probably 30 different varieties.. Plus the water was warm and calm. We spent about 6 hours at this beach. When we got back to the ship we had massages scheduled at the Mandarin Spa. Fantastic experience! Dinner at Cagney's, with a delicious chocolate cake for dessert. Kauai was our favorite island and this was such a memorable day.... perfect really. On our final cruise day we had the tubing experience with/Kauai Backcountry Adventures scheduled, only 10 of us could go, because you have to be at least 5. This tubing experience is through caves and the kids loved it. On the trip up the mountain we saw some of the settings for the Jurassic Park movies. We had to get back on the ship early and my Grand daughter who took 3 hula dancing classes on the ship was in the pool side hula show. We also all went to the lei making classes, don't miss them, they were surprisingly fun and we all still have the leis we made. As we sailed by the Napali, there were double rainbows in the sky. I know I've said this a lot but the coast and the rainbows were absolutely incredible! We saw this from my son's baloney while sipping a lovely red wine. I don't know how this could have been more perfect. Dinner at Tappanyaki that evening. It's a show and the chefs were awesome! We had our luggage in the hallway by midnight, had breakfast at Cagney's the next morning and were off the ship by 09. We had one more day in Honolulu, we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Beach Club, went to the aquarium (it's run by the University of Hawaii) and had an impressive display of Sea Horses and then we hiked up Diamond Head. 9 of us made it to the top. We were seriously proud of this accomplishment. This was easily the best cruise we've ever been on. It all exceeded our expectations. Read Less

This is an excellent way to see the Hawaiin islands. The service on the ship was excellent and the crew was very friendly. The dining rooms and specialty restaurants are very good with excellent service. The ship is very clean and very well maintained. The Balcony cabins are very clean, however very small compared to other Norwegian Cruise Ships. The cabins cannot really accomadate any more than 2 people unless you have a young child, as the pull out sofa bed is very small. All areas of the ship have a wonderful American theme. Embarkation and disembarkation was a breeze! Norwegian seems to have mastered how to do it right. If any one is planning a hotel stay before or after the cruise, I highly recommend the Kahala Hotel and Resort in Honolulu. This is a wonderful property that is in a beautiful area only 10 minute cab ride from Waikiki Beach. The Kahala has all the amenities and their own private beach. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend "Pride of America" I give Norwegian top marks again!!! Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. "Pride" is the only cruise ship that stays in the Hawaiian Islands (no days at sea). We went 2 days early - to make sure luggage arrived before sailing, and to enjoy some sights on Oahu. We arrived at port about 3:00PM, and there were very few people waiting for check in. Embarkation went very quickly and smoothly. We originally purchased a balcony cabin, but had bid on and "won" a suite (more later). So the butler introduced himself as soon as we checked in and took us to a nearby sitting area with refreshments. After a few more people joined our group, he did a short talk on what we could expect as suite guests, then personally took us to our suites and showed us the amenities. We had carefully examined the "Free At Sea" offerings, and had the option to select ALL. Knowing about the HUGE automatic gratuity charge on the "unlimited drink package", we did not choose that. We chose the 3 nights dining in specialty restaurants, and doubled up on the $50.00 discount per day on shore excursions. We did not need the wi-fi, since our Verizon had good connectivity near the islands (but lost it between them). We couldn't use the "free and reduced airfare" since it could not accommodate our need for extra leg room. Although we enjoy shows, we ended up attending none due to timing with our dining. Also, being seniors, we don't stay up late. We thought the shore excursions were well handled. There are "many" luaus available in the Hawaiian Islands, and I really think Norwegian should offer more than one as shore excursions. We did the Volcanoes National Park tour at Hilo, submarine at Kona, and "Director's Cut" on Kauai, all of which were good. Dining was fine. Suite guests were invited to enjoy breakfast and lunch in Cagney's Steakhouse, which we did on several days. The food, as expected, was excellent. We also had both in the dining rooms and buffet, which were well done. Our dinners in the specialty restaurants were excellent. The shops were as expected. There were a few basic pharmacy items (if you may need something, BRING YOUR OWN, Consider buying it on land BEFORE you get on ship). We missed the advertised 50% off sale, but $99.00 for an Aloha shirt???? Buy your souvenirs on shore. My only complaint is that sometimes, the ship was FREEZING. This was mostly in our cabin, but also in the corridors and even in the Bistro. I was happy to find the public areas, particularly the pool deck, were not BLASTING music. I've been on other ships (not Norwegian) where earplugs were needed to lounge around the pool, and we had to scream in the central area of the ship since the live music was being amplified 5 decks above. It was a joy not to have a casino. I'm happy to play blackjack for a few hours on a cruise, but HATE the cigarette smoke. No smoke to deal with here! GREAT CRUISE! Read Less

Everything was fantastic. Price was cheap. Experience was amazing. Recommending it to everyone. Lots of buffet food in Aloha Cafe. Specialty food was horrible so dont try it. Lots of options in the ALoha Cafe Cabin was clean. Little bit smaller but it was comfortable. Shows were amazing and entertaining. Standup comedy and shows were great. Service was great. Everyone was smiling and ready to help. Chef's were engaging and talking. Felt bad for kids to be working so hard on the cruise but when I spoke to one of them he explained me that he's on cruise for 4 months and get 2 months vacation so that was good. Spa is expensive. Massages are $200 or more per hour. We didnt do any shore excursions but its better to rent the car on each island and it was amazing experience. I didnt like the fact that we had to come back before 5-6 to cruise because later evening stay would have been fine and we could have covered more places driving around. Anyways, this Trip is one of my best trip. I do lot of trips but this one stands apart. Read Less

My cabin was spacious and I loved having the balcony to go out on when I was in my room. The Vegas show was great. the entertainment director was everywhere and very good at her job, i loved the Not so newlywed game show night. i enjoyed all the ports and the excursions, however would have enjoyed more cultural options on land. the ports were beautiful and the guides that showed us around were knowledgeable. i would defiantly do this cruise again as well as cruise with Norwegian again. i traveled with my adult family there were no children in my group. embarkation from the boat was simple and easy. Our experience was special right from the start. The crew was very accomodating and fun. We felt very welcomed especially by our stewardess and all staff onboard. We really enjoyed the bands that played especially "The Drivers" The night shows were great and the food was excellent! As far as any constuctive criticism all we can say was that it could have been easier to stay at one port in big island instead of going to both kona and Hilo. I also wrote in the room review that the shower area could have used a little bit sprucing up. I also wanted to give a lot of recognition to our stewardess who did such a great job keeping our room nice and clean. Keep up the good work! Ps washy washy Maria was fun keeping us clean between meals :) Read Less

Having never traveled to Hawaii, we thought this would be a good way to check out multiple islands and learn a bit about each one. The POA was a great experience all the way around! The staff from our airport arrival to our return trip home were available, helpful and knowledgeable!! We were especially appreciative of the deck staff during tendering. Their care and consideration of passenger safety was top notch. The entertainment was fun and energetic! The dining staff were attentive and friendly. The food was excellent and abundant !! What more could you ask for!! On our final day we disembarked and took a NCL tour of the City of Honolulu, the USS Missouri and the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. Our Guide, Garfield, was fantastic!! He made the visit more meaningful. This was an incredible trip/vacation for us full of beautiful scenery and happy memories! Thanks to all!! Read Less

NCL offered a very appealing itinerary with two overnight stops which allowed us to explore the islands on our own. We thoroughly enjoyed our Deluxe Owner's Suite with hot tub, it was beautiful and spacious and our butler Roland was helpful and friendly. The ship was easy to navigate and had everything we needed. Embarkation and disembarkation was an easy process, we had personal attention and service and felt very spoiled! Dining was okay, the specialty dining was nice, the buffet was mediocre but we were always able to find what we wanted. We enjoyed the complimentary room service and our butler also arranged a nice afternoon snack for our final day of cruising so the rest of our party could join us in our suite. We booked a couple shore excursions which were fine and explored on our own via rental car in the overnight ports. All in all a very pleasurable cruise. We have been on probably a dozen cruises with many cruise lines and found NCL to be a nice, affordable choice. If you've been to Hawaii before, or never been, this is a nice way to see more than one island. Read Less

We were on the Pride of America, with its island hopping Hawaii itinerary. The service was wonderful throughout. We loved the suite, and the restaurants were excellent. Our concierge, Thomas, was wonderful and a huge help with great suggestions to improve our experience. We had breakfast everyday at Cagney's Steakhouse and that was a great start (and Allison was terrific). I loved the Lanai bar but wished it was open later; it's the best spot on the ship and I don't understand why it isn't better utilized. The Pink champagne bar was nice, with some great casual entertainment. Great selection of excursions, too, with options for guided tours, cultural and historical explorations, natural beauty and adventure - something for everyone and a varied experience for all who want it. Having a suite with it's priority features made for a vastly improved experience over what looked like a crowded and line-heavy approach involved in the standard cabins. It was a wonderful experience and I would heartily recommend NCL. Read Less

We had spoke with several people who had traveled to Hawaii prior to our planning this trip.We then contacted our Travel Agent, which we have used on all our cruises, and she arranged for the 11-Day O'ahu Explorer tour. What a wonderful trip. We spent three days at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort. From there we toured Dole Plantation /Polynesian Cultural Center/ Pearl Harbor/ Kualoa Ranch and other sites. On the forth day we embarked which went very well. We enjoyed the next 7 days aboard the Pride of America, great ship. The staff through out the ship was excellent. Our stateroom service was exceptional, best we ever had. Dining was very good, nice selection of food. Entertainment was great every night, even the last night late show had to be canceled due to a accident in the early show, you still came thru with a show ( Michael Masci Piano Salute to Elton John and Billy Joel ) great show .Overall service was excellent. Shore excursions were very good of those we did. If there was anything negative I would say the cost. Great trip. Read Less

We commend her for her extreme kindness and good job. We really enjoyed our time aboard the NCL/Pride of America. This was not the most luxury cruise like we have taken before, but was a very enjoyable cruise. The food was good, and as always plenty to choose from. The staff makes you feel at home on the ship and no matter what their job was they all seemed to smile and accommodate our needs. We were in Hawaii 36 years earlier and wanted to revisit. With NCL's "Free at Sea" offer, this was an exceptionally affordable and effective way to schedule our return without worrying about booking expensive hotels, meals and airfare. Our plan was to use the ship as our floating "home base" to re-visit our favorite spots and explore new locations. The cruise itself was awesome. From smooth check-in and embarkation, ease of finding areas of interest onboard due to well-marked signage, daily newsletters and always friendly and eager-to-assist crew members to well managed flow of passengers on/off the ship at all ports, the staff should be highly commended. The ports chosen were awesome as well. These are non-traditional ports that involve a walk through 'souvenirville' before you can leave the port area. All ports offered a more than ample variety of shore excursions to meet most everyone's needs. We like snorkeling and found the opportunity to snorkel on 3 different islands seeing a tremendous variety of fish, spinner dolphins sea turtles and even a moray eel. With our busy schedule, we didn't find time to participate in the many onboard activities or entertainment. As part of the free at Sea package, we enjoyed dining at Cagney's Steakhouse (steak/seafood), the Jefferson Bistro (French) and La Cucina (Italian) Specialty Dining Restaurants, all were exceptional. The other nights we ate in the Liberty and Skyline Main dining rooms. After disembarkation from the ship, we rented a car and spent the day touring Pearl Harbor, an absolute must before returning to the mainland. The ship offers this excursion with a return to the airport but we wanted the freedom to spend as much time as we wanted there. Discounted airfare to/from Honolulu was one of the factors to seal the deal. Read Less

Embarcation: our booking said our check in time was 1200 but in actual fact, check-in was FROM 1200 so we wasted much of our day in Honolulu (having arrived the day before) and wished we had checked in by 5pm. We checked in and then got off the ship again to walk up Diamond head and arrived back at 4:30pm but realised later, we need not have checked in so early. Cabin: we had the cheapest cabin on the ship so I was expecting a tight squeeze, we lost an upgrade 'bid' so didn't think about it too much, however we were pleasantly surprised by how much space and storage it had for two ladies. We weren't disappointed. Dining: The food in the restaurants was impeccable. So glad we didn't have the enormous American style portions and the food and presentation was excellent quality. We didn't have the specialty dinner package but we didn't need to. We ate in the Asian restaurant a couple of times and we felt that was like having a specialty dinner package. You really don't need to go extra on the restaurant upgrade. I liked having lunch from the buffet and taking it to a table outside with a cocktail at the back of the ship. That was nice. My only complaint was that the American diner looked very cheap and cold. We didn't eat in there but I imagine it would have been good for kids. It could have been furbished to look warmer than a burger king. Entertainment: My friend and I were celebrating our 50th and were up for a fun, good time but the ship got fairly quiet by midnight and we found ourselves going from lounge to lounge looking for a bit of action. The ship had a lot of older people who seemed to get up at Dawn and go to bed early ready for the next dawn. The shows were average except for the Jazz band. They were great. Comedian was rubbish, but then I"m not American, so slap stick jokes aren't our thing. The disco on some nights could have been much better. A couple of nights the DJ was there and that was good, but for some nights the music was just a tape and that was disappointing. Having said that, we liked the fact that there was lots of options and if Karaoke, bingo and quiz was your thing, there was plenty to do. Although I felt our demographic was in the minority, it was so easy to hang out and meet people. Everyone we came across was very friendly and chatting to strangers was so easy. I did not feel at all uncomfortable to go out on my own and sit at a bar or table or chat to someone nearby. It was thoroughly relaxing and I loved the fact that it was a do what you want, when you want, how you want type of cruise. Service: impeccable 99% of the time. Everyone was courteous, the dining staff went over and above, our cabin was serviced twice a day, loved how they had beach towels for you when you got off the ship and offered a fresh cup of water when you arrived back. I'd say the ship was clean, well groomed and maintained and the bar staff were productive. I only would have complained once about one bar staff who tried to tell me I couldn't have a cocktail as the bar had just closed and he'd turned the ice machine off, but then when I asked him what cocktail I could have, he turned it on (pressed a button) and ta da, he made me the cocktail I originally asked for in less than a minute and the three staff were still working there. His attitude didn't impress me, but that was the once and only time. Other than that I was extremely impressed. Ports: We loved the itinerary and were out all day in the ports so we missed what was going on on the ship. We did two big excursions in Maui which were great but because these trips are so expensive, we decided to do our own thing in the other ports. The ship has the hopper on and off trolley's that take you from the ship to the town and other places of interest. We did those and got to see some great places. It is very easy to rent a car as a shuttle takes you from the ship to the airport to do just that. There are also plenty of taxis to get you around so you don't need to do an excursion if you don't care for that. My only complaint would be the port in Maui. We docked on the boring side, so if you are not doing an excursion, get yourself over to Kanapali beach side on the south. Kauwai is the most beautiful and most scenic, shop in Kona, not Hilo and snorkle in Kona but look for turtles in Hilo. If you make time in Honolulu, a big mistake we made is thinking we could turn up to Pearl harbour and get tickets for USS Arizona, but you have to buy tickets at least a day in advance. We got over there (an hour on the trolley) and couldn't go out on the boat to the Arizona unless we had pre-paid tickets. We walked up to the top of Diamond head in 25 minutes flat without stopping, but allow 45 minutes unless you are unfit. Tips: Pre pay gratuities. I hate tipping. unless you have a good reason not to, purchase the drinks package, especially if you are travelling with a friend. It saves a lot of "its your round, not mine". It certainly makes for a more relaxing cruise not worrying about paying for drinks. I would do this cruise with my children next time. I think they would love it. Overall it was fantastic and highly recommended but we did have to disembark early to catch our international flight from Honolulu so we missed the last trip around the coast. We were very sad to leave when we did. Read Less

Food at Cagney's and the Brazillian Steakhouse was delicious and while we didn't get to dine much in other areas of the ship the bits we did enjoy were very good. Scuba Diving in Kona was my favorite Shore Excursion, but the biking down the Crater in Maui was a close second. Everyone we met was so nice both on the ship and during the island excursions. Such a beautiful state to visit like this. Loved being able to see so much and not having to pack and unpack over and over. We sprung for the suite so we really felt like VIPs all week. Our butler and concierge were amazing and the steward kept the suite feeling fresh and new. Nothing to compare it to cruise wise, but vacation wise it was top notch! Read Less

This was my honeymoon cruise and we were reluctant to book this to Hawaii as our dream destination because a lot of the reviews are not good. But we have done many cruises before and we said- well,we'll take a chance and just see. Well, all the GOOD reviews are what we experienced. We had a fabulous time. ALL the people are so friendly and we felt very well taken care of. I dont know if those that write bad reviews are just freaking spoiled or suffer from entitlementitis or what their deal is but I never experienced anything of the sort. In fact our cabin steward Dennis was always available ready to take care of our room, we ate dinner in the Liberty restaurant several nights because our server David Littlejohn was great and very funny, I got not one but 2 massages from Danny Dance in the spa because he took the time to really listen to what I needed in a massage for some issues I was having- and Nigel the exursion guy said HI to us every single time he saw us on the ship and spoke to us like old friends, my husband hates having his picture taken and he even started liking the photographers Ed "buster slugs" (he nicknamed him) and Mark and allowed them to take his picture and bought pictures from them. One complaint I did hear from guests was that they thought the bar service was too slow. I never experienced that. but I am the kind if I see a bartender getting their butt kicked behind the bar I am not going to expect them to roll out the red carpet for me. I have a little sympathy and will get my own drink at the bar. Most of the shows were good. The Hawaiian one on Monday was not that great but the rest were very enjoyable. The comedian was funny and the magician was very good. Getting on and off the ship was easy and simple. The shore excursions were great. I think that people just flip out into another dimension when they step on this cruise. Its like they should be waited on hand and foot and be treated like royality or something. That's not what this cruise is about. its about seeing the islands and taking a vacation and getting away from your day to day life. people just need to get over themselves. We had a wonderful time. I have been reading these reviews for two years since I booked this cruise and was, quite frankly, dreading it. To set the scene, this was my 10th cruise and 3rd with NCL. Yes, it is expensive. Why? Because it is registered and based in USA and must employ US staff and pay US wages, unlike 99% of other ships which don't. Want a cheaper alternative? Book with another line out of California and waste 5 days getting to Hawaii and 5 days (including an enforced stop in Mexico) getting back. Are the excusions a rip off? Yes but in my experience all cruise lines do this. ( Use Roberts Hawaii instead). Does the ship look old and in disrepair? Absolutely not. It was immaculate. Is it full of modern facilities and bells and whistles? No, but if that surprises you when you get on board, it shouldn't. Do your research!!!! The website clearly tells you that it is one of the smaller, older ships in the fleet and exactly what facilities it does and does not have. We saw the shows every night and they were average to slightly above average. Main restaurant food was typical cruise fare and yes the aloha buffet was busy at lunch times, aren't they always??? Cagneys, one of the speciality restaurants, was the best meal I have eaten on a cruise ship. Overall it was a great week. Please remember people, NCL is a 4* cruise line so why are you expecting it to be the same as Celebrity/Holland America/Princess????? Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted a cruise that went to 4 islands and this one was the best fort us. We cannot compare to other cruises because it is our first cruise ever. Everything for us was perfect, we really enjoyed the cruise. The dining was for all tastes. There was a lot of different kind of places to go eat. Everything was very good. The entertainment was spectacular, we really enjoyed that too. The ship was not to big it was easy to go from one place to another. Very good for us. The cabin I think was OK since we don't know other wise. I tough the ports was more entertaining. This is commercial port so no beach or shopping near by. I was a bit desapointed about that. Except for Maui who was ok, the shore excursions was really great and "Roberts Transportation" was super !! Read Less

We wanted to cruise the Hawaiian Islands and our travel agent suggested Norwegian Cruise Lines. We found the ship clean everywhere, and EVERY SINGLE person working on the cruise was extremely friendly and helpful, no matter the question, or just a pass in the hallway. Our cabin was just big enough, and the balcony was lovely. The cabin Steward, James, was very helpful and cheerful. We took several tours (snorkeling, outrigger canoeing, waterfalls, and canyons) and all were excellent. Would highly recommend all the ones we took. Our one complaint was that the interior of the ship was freezing cold all the time! Needed jackets inside, but not outside! One highlight was being met at the airport by Emily, an NCL employee I guess, who met us (unexpectedly) with a huge smile and shepherded us through the airport to our waiting shuttle transfer to the ship. She set the tone for the whole trip. Read Less

Been wanting to visit Hawaii for a long time. Cruising the islands was the best choice. We were able to secure a suite for the trip and it was fantastic. Room was spacious for the 3 of us and the service was outstanding. We dined in the specialty dinning restaurants mostly because of prepackage we bought, well worth it. The food on the buffet was mediocre. The excursions were rather expensive so we rented a car to explore the islands. It was easy to get around and very economical for our group of 5. If you like a thrilling ride and snorkeling I recommend doing the Captain Zodiac rafting ride in Kona. Fun and the scenery is exquisite and snorkeling is easy even for the novice. Entertainment on board was excellent with a variety of comedy , musical , and magic. One of the most enjoyable cruises that I have been on. I would do it again without hesitation. Read Less

Our first cruise! What a wonderful way to see Hawaii. Loved that it stopped at 4 islands and there were wonderful excursions. Booking excursions through NCL was very easy and it was nice knowing if for some reason it ran late we wouldn’t miss the ship. The comedian was great and loved the lei making classes. There were many activities on the ship for anyone who did not was to do excursions. We were so busy we only got in the pool 1 day. All staff were very helpful and with this being our first cruise I had multiple questions. I had scheduled dinners prior to sailing, but was able to change dinner times on the ship after we arrived. My husband was not interested in trying a cruise, but he finally talked him into it. By day 3 he said he would like to do another at some time. Can’t wait for next time Read Less

We love NCL, always have. The staff is wonderful and always helpful and smiling. We were treated like VIP's and even had a decorated cake for our anniversary. Using a cane is sometimes difficult but not on this vacation. Special care was given to make me not feel I was holding anyone up when on excursions. The ship itself is beautiful and so well kept. The food again, was excellent. Too good actually as I gained 8 lbs. My next cruise will be back to Hawaii via NCL with my daughters as I want them to experience the time I had.The entertainment was excellent as well. There was a Polynesian show, magician and comedian as well as two excellent broadway type shows by their own production crew. We made ribbon leis, oragami and enjoyed the fact they encouraged familes to participate. Look forward to our next cruise which will be back to hawaii with my daughters this time. Read Less

Me and my wife took this cruise in August 2018 for our 30th wedding anniversary, we had such a great time that we returned August 2019. The Hawaiian islands are truly paradise and the cruise is the best bang for you buck. We had a balcony cabin with awesome views every minute of every day. We took excursions every day, everything from Haleakala 16 mile downhill bike ride to hiking in the rainforest. If you want to stay on the ship and eat, then knock yourself out!! The food is pretty good as were the shows. There is plenty of entertainment and numerous bars/lounges to grab a drink. No complaints with the service, most are very friendly and helpful. Might not go back in 2020 (or we might). Cabins are a little pricey, but we have to spend our $$$ on something, right?? We flew in early and spent two nights in Waikiki Beach. Pretty sweet!! We chose this cruise because we wanted to visit more than one island on the trip without having to island hop via airplane. The cruise was everything we had hoped it would be. There was never any pressure from photographers or art salespeople which was appreciated. Our cabin met our needs, though even with a balcony room, it was fairly small. We had a large balcony #8002. We did experience multiple episodes of our toilet not flushing, but maintenance was prompt to correct it for a time if not "fix" it. The balcony is enclosed. At first, we weren't sure about that, but found out that it blocks out the wind blowing and the sun. Sitting on the balcony was a joy! The shore excursions we chose were wonderful. Every bus was air conditioned, comfortable, and modern. The dining venues were lovely and well-maintained. We expected more "American" food than was offered, but we certainly managed. Breakfast was our favorite meal onboard. We found the staff to be extremely friendly, and our steward very efficient. The ship is the smallest cruise ship we have been on, but most things you might want are present. Each day you have the opportunity to be off the ship experiencing Hawai'i! We did purchase a mix of excursions through NCL, and rented cars on our own in Maui (for one day) and Hilo (for an afternoon). As others have noted, tender boats are used for the Kona port. They do put a bunch of people in the tender boat at one time. Hawai'i is tropical and thus, there is a high humidity factor to go with the temperature. We found the tender boats to be quite uncomfortable. Each island is different with its own personality and offerings of beauty. Kauai, and in particular the Na pali Coastline, are just gorgeous. We chose the helicopter ride excursion over the volcanoes in Hilo. Wow!! So fabulous! We wished we had chosen to do that in Kauai. Embarkation and disembarkation were easy. We chose to walk off with our luggage and had no problems. We did purchase transfers to and from the airport. We encountered no difficulties. Couldn't have been better. NCL is waiting for you at the end of each day with cold water, and in some cases, wet washcloths. They are cheery and nice. I did appreciate the ever present person with disinfectant for your hands in the buffet and when returning to the ship. You do need your government ID at every port and your ship card. This trip takes quite a bit of advance planning if you wish to strike out on your own and not go on an excursion. Have a positive, excited attitude, be flexible, and you will have a most wonderful time! Read Less

We were skeptical at first because we booked the cruise before reading the review. Our party really just wanted a convenient way to explore the islands without having to pack and unpack all the time. We all agreed beforehand to book a room with a balcony instead of a stateroom and decided to splurge on the Penthouse. Best decision ever!Especially for the Na Pali Coast sail by! The perks are really worth the price. We enjoyed the convenience of eating the special Cagney’s Breakfast, exploring the Island and occasionally having dinner on the balcony. The priority tendering in Kona was a real lifesaver that day. It beats standing out in the sun in the long line going back onboard the ship. The crew really made this cruise special. Our Butler Gulsen Cummings really went above and beyond each day. From dinner reservations to even car rentals she did it all! Edwin our Steward also made sure everything in the cabin was taken care of. Both of them always greeted us with a smile and chatted with us every morning and evening to make sure all was well. China(the Hawaiian Cultural ambassador) also added a unique aspect to the cruise. We enjoyed her lei making classes, port talks, and other various activities throughout the week and the Aloha Polynesia show. Its a blast. There are only a few minor complaints for our experience. Given the age of the ship the shower took a little while to drain. It took a while to get the Bartenders attention on the pool deck, but at other venues the response was average. The Vegas show was unbearably loud the night we went hopefully thats a one off thing. Despite the minor complaints the overall cruise was enjoyable. Its not a glitzy cruise with a ton of onboard attractions, but if you just want to explore the islands and have a place to unwind after being in the sun all day then I would recommend this cruise and staying in a suite.
