The Pride is the only American flagged cruise ship that serves ocean ports. It cruises exclusively in Hawaii. The crew is predominantly American which gives the ship a bit more of a laid back style. This does not mean that service is poor. The crew works hard and although you may hear an occasional grumble, they give you the sense they are enjoying themselves. (I suspect international crews also ...
My wife and I believed that this cruise would be a good way to see some of the other islands. We had already planned to spend a week on Oahu and wanted to get a taste of the others. We have sailed on NCL several times previously and had good experiences. Given some of the negative reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect.
In my opinion, everything was great. The ship was clean, in good shape, and ...
Overall this was a nice cruise.I was a bit worried after reading all the reviews which seem to be 50/50 as far as good or bad.So here is how I'll sum it up:
THE GOOD:For first time cruisers and those "young at heart"(not honeymooners)who would like a peak at the four main islands.
Overall 98% of the crew were friendly, accommodating and provided excellent service. The balcony stateroom was great & ...
For us, who had never cruised before, this was an ideal way to experience the Hawaiian islands. A friend had advised us to get a balcony and we were very happy we did. We were able not just to enjoy all the breath-taking scenery from our balcony, but also to watch all the activities in the various harbors as well as the lowering and raising of the lifeboats which were used to tender in and out ...
We traveled with another couple to Honolulu to take the Pride of America on a seven day cruise to the islands. None of us had been to Hawaii before, so we were excited about seeing a variety of sites in a short period of time.
We were not expecting much as far as the ship goes because of uneven reviews from other travelers.
We flew from Atlanta to Honolulu after booking the airline travel ...
I found the Pride of America to be a lovely ship with a gracious crew and staff. I have cruised on Carnival and Royal Caribbean and was actually a little afraid of NCL when I read so many negative reviews of the POA. We went ahead and booked anyway because the Hawaiian itinerary suited us perfectly. How bad could it be? It's Hawaii, for crying out loud.
What I liked:
The lei greeting. ...
Hubby and I recently returned from the week-long Hawaii cruise on Pride of America. Rather than a minute-by-minute report, we thought it best to offer some observations:
The bottom line: This cruise -- and Hawaii -- in general is more costly than cruising and visiting the Caribbean. Practically everything must be shipped to Hawaii, so you pay the freight for almost everything consumed. The ...
This is a good way to get a taste of the islands. Unfortunately NCL has no competition. There were several nice suprises based on some of the negative reviews. Embarkation was a breeze, our cabin was clean and well kept by our steward (except in seven days he never figured out we wanted turn down, he would come by each day and ask, and each day I'd tell him yes to come by a little later, as he ...
This was our second NCLA experience in Hawaii, having sailed on the Pride of Hawaii (now the Jade) back in 2007. Our first cruise was good - this one was great!
We began our journey (a celebration of my parents 50th anniversary) with a five-day beach house rental in Kihei, Maui followed by two nights at the Embassy Suites in Honolulu. The ES location is great - one block off the beach, ...
Getting on and off the ship every time was amazingly quick. This was really a pleasant surprise.
Our goal was to relax on the ship, eat, sleep...and get off the ship each day for our Hawaii excursions...only returning for the evenings. And that's exactly what we did.
The food was okay. Breakfast was actually our favorite. The regulars (eggs, bacon, potatoes, etc) were always fresh ...
