Lots of history and terrain changes

A great chance to learn more about Lewis & Clark's expedition from a knowledgeable historian. He was a fun and interesting presenter with lots of photos. The evening entertainers were, for the most part, not our cup of tea but lots of folks seemed to really enjoy them. We were quite comfortable relaxing in our room or in on of the many lounge areas. The Snake & Columbia Rivers locks were quite ...

This was our second cruise on the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington with ACL. The views and locks are spectacular and the pace is very relaxing. Each town visited has an interesting history and quaint personality. American Cruise Lines provides a fantastically safe environment for aging guests or for those travelling alone. The small ships ensure that you'll be able to meet and make ...

We loved this cruise! The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful place to cruise with spectacular scenery and some very interesting history as well. American Cruise Lines did an excellent job of showing off this scenery as well as making the history come alive with the resident historian, Bill. The excursions were fun and informative as we got to see in person the places we were learning about as we ...

We sailed from Portland, OR (Hayden Island) making a call at a different location each day Astoria, OR, Kalama, WA, Stevenson, WA, The Dalles, OR, Richland, WA and Clarkston, WA, tracing the steps of Lewis and Clark. Our passengers disembarked and in 3 hours we were loading another set of passengers for a return to Portland. We arrived back at Hayden Island again disembarked and had new passengers ...

More time in port, less time cruising than on our European river cruises

We booked the Northwest Pioneers Cruise because we wanted to visit as many sites along the Columbia and Snake Rivers as we could, and the shorter cruises required us to make too many exclusions of one excursion in favor of another! We were also attracted by the all-inclusive nature of the cruise, i.e., at least one included excursion at every port of call, no additional charges for alcoholic ...

I've never been to the Northwest USA before and this was the perfect way to see it! I loved the excursions. The busses were upscale and everything was so organized. I also enjoyed all the beautiful River Views as we went from one place to another. The Marine Museum in Astoria was fantastic. I have also never seen the type of hotel we toured., The staff on the cruise was GREAT and the ...

We had never seen this part of the country, so the itinerary got our interest. We were very pleased with every aspect of the trip- beautiful, spacious stateroom,; excellent food with great choices; very enthusiastic and helpful crew (all of them, from the wait staff, house keeping staff, cruise directors, excursions director- all were upbeat, willing to multi-task- no one ever said, “that’s not ...

We had never been to this area before and worried that it might be too hot or smoky in the summer, but we had good breezes throughout, with minimal smoke and the entire ship is cooled perfectly. Our room was larger than most of the big cruise lines, and we enjoyed the smaller ship with about 130 passengers onboard. All were friendly and warm and we liked sitting with new people at any table and at ...

First cruise and I loved every second!

We had a family of five: my 86 year old mother, my sister and her husband in their 50/60's, their teenage daughter, myself in my 50's. My mom took us on this cruise to get us to love cruising, and it worked! This cruise was really geared to age 40 and up, the teenager only went along because it was part of a much longer trip, and while she enjoyed some of the ports, it was not the best experience ...

We are from the East Coast and have not had the opportunity to see the much of the west. The United States pioneers are of great interest so we wanted to follow the Lewis and Clarke trail out to the Pacific. So, we started in Portland Oregon and went to Clarkston, Washington and it was over the top, amazing! Every aspect of the cruise was simply breathtaking and beyond our expectations! From ...
