Sorry for the late (nearly a year) review. A month after we got back from this trip, we lost our 29 year old son in a car accident. It has been a difficult year and I have only recently stopped to think about this trip. My husband and I booked this cruise as part of a group of runners who were running at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend in 2016 called the Mickey Milers. We spent three days at the Beach Club Resort at WDW and then transferred to the ship on January 11th. This was our first cruise ever and it was an amazing experience. I had just completed the Goofy Challenge at Disney (a half marathon on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday). Disney also offered a special challenge on the ship called the Castaway Cay Challenge in which if you ran a race at Disney before the cruise and you then ran the 5K on Castaway Cay, you got a special medal. Embarkation at Port Canaveral was pretty easy, even though it was crowded. We had arrived around 1:00 p.m. since we used the Disney shuttle service. Getting through security was a bit slow but once we lined up to check in, it went quickly. When we got onboard, our stateroom was ready. We thought doing our first cruise with a group would be a good idea. I was nervous about the trip. Our cabin was 6040 on Deck 6 midship and it was a verandah stateroom. The room was beautiful, clean and the split bathroom was a plus. We loved being able to have a glass of wine on the verandah and just listen to the ocean. My husband fell in love with the shampoo and conditioner, so much so that I had to order some when we got home. Our group had provided us with a schedule of events and we also signed up to do a fish extender exchange. We enjoyed the sail away party on deck and a quick lunch at the buffet. We spent most of that first day exploring the ship, and that evening, walked around the ship and delivered our fish extender gifts. That first night was rough for me. The ship was rocking and rolling and I got a bit sea sick. After taking some Dramamine and getting to bed early, I was okay for the rest of the cruise. I was later told by our dining room attendants that the ship was running a bit fast that evening to be able to get to Nassau the next morning. The rest of the cruise felt a lot smoother, so I didn't have any other issues. As for the dining, we really enjoyed each of the restaurants in the dining rotation. We sat with several people from our group which was nice. We did splurge one night and dined at Palo. It was an amazing dining experience and the service was over the top. We would definitely do it again. As for the entertainment, the only show we were able to catch was Villains Tonight! and boy was it fun! The actor who plays Hades was so funny and so talented. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We were also able to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 3D! in the Walt Disney Theatre. The theater is very comfortable and spacious and it was a treat to be able to see a movie in 3D at sea. The only other activity we were able to do other than our group activities was Bingo, and I won! It was so much fun and I was stunned to win. As for the ports of call, we did not care for Nassau at all. We are not interested in shopping and don't care for all of the panhandlers and agressive shop keepers there. We literally walked around for 20 minutes or so and came right back to the ship. The day we stopped in Castaway Cay, I got off the ship early with the other runners doing the 5K, came back to the ship to shower and have breakfast and then we headed back to Serenity Bay. The day was very windy and chilly, so much so that we couldn't enjoy much of our beach time. After my husband took a dip in the ocean, we headed back to the ship. It really was a beautiful island and would love to go back and enjoy it during a much warmer time of the year. Service on this cruise was wonderful. We rarely saw our cabin stewardess but she did a great job keeping everything nice and tidy and kept leaving us nice towel animals each night. Our restaurant attendants were very nice and attentive. I have food allergies and they were very thorough about taking care of my needs. They really went above and beyond in that regard. It was nice to feel secure that what I was eating was safe and that I could enjoy normal meals with my table mates without too much hassle. Disembarkation was smooth and simple. We used the Disney shuttle service to the airport as well and that went smoothly. The cruise flew by and we definitely want to try a longer cruise on DCL. There was so much to do that we didn't get to try. It has something for everyone, whether you're 2 or 92. We loved it. Read Less
