Thought it would be a great little spring get away..Was not disappointed. It was a 4 day cruise to Albany and Busselton From Fremantle. Service was great. The ship looks pretty good after her small facelift..The Food was as usual very good and the New Curtis Stone restaurant, Share was excellent. Due to the inclement weather we were unable to stop at Busselton on the way back however the activities on board kept us entertained.. I have cruised many many times. The Sun Princess is not The QM2 and does not pretend to be ..nor is she the Oasis but she is a clean and comfortable..with wonderful staff.. My only request would be, better Coffee in the Horizon Buffet and not such long queues for a coffee at the Coffee shop. I do prefer a ship of the Sin Princess size. it is easy to get around. The Lounges and Atrium areas are lovely with lots of entertainment..There are also nice quiet areas such as The Library if you want some quiet time.Great Value. Chose this cruise for a couple of reasons, 1 left from Fremantle, 2 Sun Princess, love it. Embarkation, no complaints at all getting better compared to other cruises we have done from Fremantle. Love taking my bottles of Prosecco on board too! Cabin interior, small but we knew that, comfortable bed and pillows, NO smells and spotlessly clean thanks to our wonderful steward. Food was amazing in the buffet or dining room. We cruised with friends who had only cruised Cunard Queen Mary before and they said that the food and ambience on board SP was better. The shows were good, played Trivia most days, loved the Crossing of the Equator ceremony which is probably my only muse that P&O do their theme nights and parties better, Princess could have at least one per cruise. Never had a problem getting a sun bed and Movies Under the Stars with popcorn was great. The seas were calm and the weather warm. Monsoon came in on time this year with us getting very wet in Phuket at Patong, which you could get to and most people did go ashore. It was a long ride to Patong and the weather did spoil it but not Princess's fault. We were on a local ferry for the tender and that was a bit dodgy. Tendering process when used was very efficient hardly any waiting. Captain made nice announcements and speeches but gave off a clear message not to make contact with him when he walked around ! Great staff behind the counter who had to deal with some horrible, nasty guests complaining about things they should have known about eg turning up on the last night with wads of cash to pay their account which had already had holds put on their credit card everyday and going nuts that they couldn't be taken off...if you have the cash put it on up front and the credit card does not get touched. And some complaining about the end of Ramadan holiday and the monsoon season, maybe research next time. Apart from that we loved that there were not a lot a whingers around the ship as we have had on other cruises, again just them nothing really to complain about! Would love to go on her again especially after the refurb she is currently undergoing, just loved every minute of every day. Some people are just hard to please and I can be as well but no complaints here on this cruise. Getting off in Singapore a breeze compared to previous cruises, new terminal straight out and into maxi cab no waiting. Stayed at Furama as part of the Princess deal, loved it again with Executive Club room and extras. Love Singapore. Only gripe was the Qantas flight home, again as part of Princess package, very small plane, hot cramped, non reclining seats, 2 loos for all economy class, tiny hard seats, miserable crew. All passengers complaining about this plane, much too small for this length of flight. Will book on larger plane myself next time as have done for previous cruise very cheap flights on large airbus with Scoot. We chose this cruise for its Southern Australian itinerary, which was excellent. Princess has a lot to be proud of, but are letting themselves down in some areas (as follows): I had sheets with holes in them on my bed They were changed, at my request, on day 6 (this is seriously not good enough....the linen should not be so thin that it had developed holes). A fitting in the shower was coming apart - our cabin steward said it was left that way for ease of cleaning. The bathroom mirror needed to be replaced. A number of the fake cane chairs at the outside Terrace Grill were damaged, with large holes in the seats. I can only guess they were not sturdy enough to accommodate heavier passengers who sat in them. On the plus side, Sun Princess catered brilliantly for my diary intolerance. In general the food and wait staff were excellent (particularly in the formal Regency Restaurant). The Captain and his head staff, directed the crew, who worked long hours for the last 7 days of the cruise to try and contain the horrendous norovirus outbreak on board. They did this with professionalism in trying conditions. (This outbreak was not the ships fault - good hygiene needs to be practised by passengers to prevent an outbreak.) Compared to other cruise lines I have sailed with, I found Sun Princess underwhelming and in many areas did not meet my expectations of a 4.5 star cruise line. Read Less

I chose this cruise due to pricing, but after getting the feeling of being nickel and dimed at every turn, is it all worth it. The potable water was so distasteful from the tap you had to buy water. At 4.25 US a bottle -you have to be kidding. These small things that in the big picture would be of minimal cost would make all the difference Even soft drinks were charged for. Coffee was stewed no matter what time you went for a meal, Main dining room was nice, but the buffet became boring after a few days Staff levels are low and the buffet is really SELF SERVICE all you would need was the passengers to take the plate to the waiter station and HAL could reduce staffing levels more. Entertainment: what happened to a production show, all we had was solo comedians and a singer or two. Wonderful to see Patrick McMahon from Western Australian get a gig. BUT no production numbers or show. Where is the Razzmatazz ?? Happy Hour: 4pm you have to be joking Alcohol pricing: DONT buy online it was cheaper on board and when purchasing a wine package check the bottle price against the package price. Buying a three package was more expensive than individually. WHY ??? Gym and Spa: As a health professional, I had to walk out of a lecture due to a lack of evidence based practice that was being offered in the talk. What was being said was scientifically non factual and the personal opinion of the facility. BEWARE Finally I made a letter of complaint to management BUT they failed to respond before my disembarkation, I suppose that is "you're gone here comes another mug ", but this mug is like a dog with a bone. Holland America I am not going away.! Read Less

We chose this cruise around the top end because it visited the places, particularly in WA, which we had always wanted to see. Others had told us how great the cruise was. The ship itself is tired - it is being sold next May, so it requires refurbishment. We were surprised though at the amount of external maintenance which was occurring. There were some plumbing issues and we also heard that there were some leaks in cabins. The shows were quite well executed on the whole, but we had seen them all before on other ships. The individual guest entertainers were generally average, some better than others. The activities on board were the usual so we did not bother going. The noise in the pool area sent us right away. We found the service very good - cabin steward, wait staff, and others were all competent and friendly. The food in the buffet at lunch was generally better than that in the dining room for dinner. Princess has changed its "every day available" selection of strip sirloin to a hamburger - not exactly fine dining! The shore excursions are becoming outrageously expensive these days. We did a couple of excursions mainly because we could not organise time frames to suit sailing times with a private operator. Despite everything, we still enjoyed ourselves. Read Less

Having sailed on the Sapphire and Emerald we dis not think we would be in for such a disappointment . MANY people had their rooms flooded, toilets not flushing, lack of hot water and the list goes on. Many mornings , early hours, there would be noises like you were in an industrial area. Grinders, chipping hammers, paint odour and voices. I had read this type of complaint by past passengers butt it was too late. We had already paid and the cancel date had passed. The food and service was more than satisfactory. Would recommend but this review is directed at the ship. Incidentally this vessel has been sold to P & O. I heard it goes into dry dock around May 2017 and will be launched under a different name. As a cruise liner in its current condition it would make a great imitation reef. Be aware the photo shown of " your room" may not be accurate. Ours showed one thing and it was considerably smaller to the point one person could go to bed walking alongside the bed. The other side was absolute minimal room , about 200mm with a chair blocking access so you had to climb into bed from the end of the bed. DEFINATELY avoid this vessel for now. Certainly pay attention to passenger reviews. Our room was not as advertised but luckily we didn't have the inconveniences that many passengers encountered. Very disappointing as we have enjoyed previous tours with OTHER princess ships. Read Less

This was a (long) weekend cruise from Fremantle, which is 30 minutes from home for us. We enjoyed the cruise overall but felt the Dawn Princess is looking a little tired and dated. Embarkation was a bit slow but not too bad. We enjoyed the entertainment on board, particularly The Beatles Boys, the were brilliant! There was a good variety of quiz shows and trivia comps and the entertainment crew were all engaging and seemed genuinely happy to be there. The crew were good, but sometimes a bit light on we thought. Quite a few times we had to wait for drinks, Happy Hour in particular was a fiasco if you waited for table service, we quickly learned to go up to the bar ourselves. We enjoyed the food in the main dining room, Florentine, I think, but weren't that impressed by Sterling Steakhouse or Horizon Court. The Afternoon Teas were worth going to. We cruised on Carnival Legend in January and were very disappointed in comparing Sterling Steakhouse to their specialty restaurant, which was superb. Disembarkation was very smooth. Neither of us suffer from sea sickness so the 3.5 metre seas didn't bother us. The seas of Fremantle are notoriously rough and I would never suggest a first time cruiser sail out of Fremantle. We spoke to a few people onboard who were discouraged from cruising because of the rough seas, which is a bit unfortunate I think. Of the 12 cruises we've been on, the two we've done from Fremantle have been the roughest waters. Overall, we enjoyed the cruise and have been scouring websites since to find a weekend cruise for later in the year or next year. Read Less
