Worst Cruise Ever

Review for a South Pacific Cruise on Paul Gauguin

We were excited to take this smaller cruise ship in the French Polynesia Islands and had read many reviews indicating what a luxury cruise line this was with excellent cuisine and more intimate since the ship is smaller. The staff working onboard are terrific and attentive to every detail. The ship itself is beautiful with updated decor making this very appealing, especially since this is an ...

Would not recommend

My spouse and I have cruised with 8 different cruise lines and we agree Paul Gauguin has been the most overrated based on critic and passenger reviews we read prior to booking and also the most overpriced. First of all, the ship itself is quite tired/dated looking both inside and out, therefore needs a complete makeover. On a positive note, it’s clearly an older ship thus the rooms and bathrooms ...

Disappointing cruise and cruise ship on a very overrated cruise line!

Let me start with the most positive and that is the staff especially waiting, bar and housekeeping. They are truly amazing and the best I have found on a cruise ship. I'm not gonna bother going into detail about every nook and cranny on the ship, many other people have written reviews about the number of coat hooks on the back of the door et cetera. Let's start with the ship! It's old and ...

The Voyage of “No”

Summary: the islands and waters of French Polynesia are beautiful, exotic, and clean. The towns and roads are populated by people who are friendly, charming, inviting, and helpful. And I highly recommend you visit them on a cruise ship (especially if you are a scuba diver)…once alternatives to Paul Gauguin become available. The M/S Paul Gauguin is a tired, clunky ship staffed by crew ranging ...

PG is NOT worth the money

Please understand the ship is nice and in good condition, but quite old. Our balcony was very small - like you could barely fit two chairs and a small table. The price of this cruise was triple any comparable cruise we've ever sailed. If you book this cruise, you must take their pre-post package. We opted to stay longer so that we could use a timeshare week and were required to pay an extra ...

So far we only took 5 cruises with Crystal, one Silversea , one Seabourn and two Hollend America. Not a frequent cruisers, but very selective. Paul Gauguin was the recent one we came back from. Overall, disappointed. 1. Lack of amenities: in general, you go to hotel, you will expect pen and papers in the room, at least small tubes of lotion, shampoo and conditioner. None of above exists ...

Boring & bad weather

Friends suggested this. I don't like cruises & shouldn't have gone. The only port PG docked was in Papeete. All other cruise involved waiting on launches & feeling like 2nd class citizen because priority is given to PG excursions (which are costly, despite the very expensive cruise). Once on the ship, and after visiting the first port, we learned that that port & Moorea (the last port) were the ...

Boat is too small to go to the Cook Islands. Nearly died on PG snorkeling trip

Wanted to see French Polynesia and the Cook Islands. Most people were sea sick going down to Cook Islands. Boat has too shallow draft and is too small for the large swells. Excursions could have been much better. PG does not take care of safety enough on snorkel trips. Snorkel boat on another day engine would not run for more than a few minutes. Had to wait an hour for another ...

This trip came highly recommended by friends that had taken this trip on previous occasions under different ownership. This was a "bucket list" trip for us. Very disappointed. The only saving grace for the entire trip was the service staff. They were all excellent. Food was only mediocre and many times served only warm. Coffee in the grill was served warm until we sent back for hot coffee ...

What a Disappointment

Just returned from what should of been a fantastic holiday celebrating our 30th anniversary. Arrived on ship, all seemed good, quick & organised embarkation, went to our suite, 711, very impressed with amount of space, flower arrangement & bubbly on ice in room. Jonathan our butler introduced himself & was very helpful, answered all our questions & made notes of reservations we wanted in ...
