My husband and I have just returned from a fabulous 7 night cruise on the Paul Gauguin from Papeete to Bora Bora and return. We have been on over 30 cruises including river cruises and I have concluded that the crew and staff on the Paul Gauguin are the best! After the first day, everyone knew our names and they were TOPS at caring for us, whether in the dining room or up at the Grill or in the Theater. I felt like a princess. We stayed in cabin # 765 and really enjoyed it, especially the large shower. It was at the back of the ship which made sailing away spectacular with the sunset views. I do wish to comment that at 5:30 am each morning, chairs were moved on the deck above us, but that was always finished by 6:00 and did not amount to much disturbance. I am a very light sleeper, but the cabin itself was worth the little noise each morning. The food in all three restaurants was really well prepared with wonderful seafood and fabulous beef tenderloin. We made reservations (at no additional charge) at Le Grill and La Veranda. Both were delicious and the service was outstanding. The main restaurant was Le Etoille and it was very nice. For a very quite evening, I would choose Le Grill or La Veranda, but the food and service were amazing in all restaurants. You are allowed to make reservations in each of the speciality restaurants (Le Grille and La Veranda) for one night each only. Paul Gauguin does this to let everyone have the opportunity of enjoying the specialty restaurants. Be sure and make these reservations as soon as you get on the ship. They were making them all in La Veranda location when we got on around 3:30 PM. The Cruise Director, Michael Shapiro did an outstanding job as host each evening. Do not miss the last night's performance of the dancers. They bring them on the ship from Papeete and they are amazing!! Michael has a wonderful voice and one evening he entertained us which was a real treat. We had delicious wine offerings each evening. I had thought that the selection of the complimentary wines might be very limited, but they were paired really well with each evening's dinner. We took the pretour to Moorea before our cruise and we are so happy that we did. We had a standard lanai room and it was so very very roomy and comfortable with a beautiful view to the beach and ocean. Our friends had a beach bungaloo cabin and it was very beautiful! I would have enjoyed that but at the end I concluded that I liked being in the main hotel for the convenience of the restaurants and the pool location. I could go on and on about this cruise and the Paul Gauguin. It all was truly a fairytale in every way! Read Less

We spent A LOT of money to travel to Singapore and Thailand on what was promoted as a luxury cruise ship. This was far from the truth. There were so many things that were inferior - STAY AWAY from this cruise line. For the entire 8 days, there were problems with the air conditioning no the ship. Sometimes the cabins didn't have A/C and sometimes it was the dining rooms and sometimes it was the entertainment areas (piano bar, casino, club, stage). We were in Thailand where it is 90+ degrees and 90% humidity - with no A/C - Totally ridiculous! The pool was very small and it was too deep to stand up in, which made it difficult to enjoy and converse with people. There was little to no entertainment, and a terrible DJ in the club night after night, even though the crowd was older, she played the techno crap she liked, nothing that was fun to dance to. The breakfast was exactly the same everyday, and was shut down by 9:30 -REALLY??? The food was banquet quality - totally subpar day after day, nothing was upscale (lots of gravy on everything). Each night the menu was the same at all the restaurants, there were two that you needed reservations for, but same menu with no atmosphere. The first night I ordered a steak that was not edible - even Applebees serves a better steak and that's not saying much. There were various bars that would be open for short periods of time and then they would close, right when everyone was in that area??  The first 2 ports that were suppose to be part of the cruise, were eliminated. Thankfully there were great people on the ship that we had a great time with, or the cruise would have been a total disaster. If you want luxury, try AZAMARA. We took a cruise in 2013 to Greece and Turkey and it was sooooo much better. Read Less
