I have never been to that part of the world and I had always heard the Danube cruise was the one to take. We were not disappointed. In fact, the experience far exceeded our expectations. From the minute we left the U.S. until we returned this was by far the most memorable vacation we have experienced. To experience, first hand, the history and the grandeur of the European ports we visited was truly a series of memorable moments. The staff and crew of the Hermod could not have made the experience any more memorable or fun. They are true professionals and it would be an honor and pleasure to sail with them again. When sailing with Viking please know if you have any dietary restrictions, they are more than happy to accomodate your needs. Vienna was one of my favorite stops but be advised, you arrive on a Sunday and other than cafe's and typical street vendors, the stores are closed. That was the only disappointment we experienced and even so, it was still a wonderful experience. Budapest is a wonderful city and we were fortunate enough to spend a couple extra days there. It was most definetly well worth it. Read Less

This was a perfect way to visit 4 countries and 8 cities along the Danube - Beautiful cities - Beautiful ship - Great Service We had never done a cruise of any type - and based on research selected AmaWaterways - we are very glad we did - We traveled with an adult daughter with physical limitations and every part of the trip, the ship and the excursions were suited for her ... The "Easy or Relaxed" excursions - the elevator on the ship and the super attentive AMA Employees made this trip so easy for all of us. The ship is outstanding and the service from all of the employees could not have been better. Every part of the ship was spotless and stayed that way throughout our trip - The "lounge area and upper deck of the ship nicely decorated and always clean - and great places to relax or meet up with people. - The staff worked so hard and could not have been more attentive. The food was outstanding throughout the cruise - The menu changed daily depending on the region and country we were traveling but there was always several options for people not wanting to try the regional food - and the presentation of the food - Breakfast, lunch & dinner looked like food out of a magazine - and was served with a smile - If you wanted something prepared or cooked differently - they made it happen - The selection of wine and cocktails was great throughout the trip - The dining room was beautiful - and the layout and design made you feel like your were in a very nice restaurant and not a dining room of a ship... We really can not think of one thing that was not outstanding !! We are already talking about our next trip on AMA and have recommended to friends... Thank you AMA Waterways and the crew and staff of the AMAViola !! Read Less

we love it only bad part on it is our room odor from out side like sowage, above all we had amazing experince. We found the service on the ship to be excellent. We were met at Munich Airport by Viking representatives and were brought to the ship promptly, where our cabin was ready for us, and lunch was being served. The wait staff in the dining room was very attentive, the bar staff was top notch and our cabin was kept spotless. Even though we had a substitute program director he did a great job. The hotel director went out of his way to make sure the guests had a good time. We met many nice people and enjoyed dining with them. We found the food to be good. A nice touch was there was coffee and tea service available all day long. In the evening there was a pianist in the lounge and there was an occasional evening activity. Read Less

Spent 3 days in Prague and got to know the city; shuttle busses allowed independent exploration; took the provided 41/2 mile walking tour and although she moved fast she did try to accommodate my difficulty walking fast and up/down stairs. Wanted to explore the countries we visited. Great ports and activities, but tour guides for the "slow walkers" had no mercy and most of them just moved way too fast and did not accommodate difficulty with stairs. Once we were left so far behind that we ended up training another group back to the bus. Unfortunately our leader never noticed we were missing. Having toured on 2 other river cruise lines, I was vey disappointed in the lack of accommodation compared to tour guides on the other lines. Comfortable cabin, with great service, good evening entertainment, good festive dining, great beverage selection; wonderful service on board; Great port selection and toured wonderful sites, just moving too quickly for my comfort and abilities. Major problem exist with the Viking representative, she was not informed or had never taken the cruise we took. The information we had stated there was an elevator in the ship (There was not). There was no considerations for the Handicapped in a wheelchair anywhere during the ports and tours. The agent stated there should be no problem. In Southern Germany; while I quickly took my wife to the museum for handicapped (only a building length away), the rest of the group disappeared to the Neuschwanstein Castle which I did want to see. Rush,Rush to beat the crowds she said. In other cities it was difficult for the wheelchair passenger & the one pushing down a cobblestone street & sidewalk. The cruise was very good and ports very interesting. Tours we saw were very good. The ship, cabin, dining, & on board service personnel were all very helpful and attentive to all are needs. Shore excursions and guides should have training for assistance for available wheelchair access points. (Some Did). The onboard entertainment was very good; could have enjoyed one every night....just like the ocean cruises. Read Less
