MSC Prezioza Cruise Review: Our first and only try at MSC. This review is completely based on our honest review/opinion of our experience onboard MSC cruise line. Although we’ve been other lines, this is our first cruise with MSC. The following is our experience of Pros and Cons during our trip to Hamburg, Germany, Le Havve, Southampton, England, Brugge, Belgium and Rotterdam, Netherlands. Pros: Coffee is excellent. Overall cleanliness of ship and bathrooms were good. Bed is firm but comfortable. Buffet food to open all day with assorted food selections. Some staff were helpful with our questions. Premium cocktails only if you’ve paid extra for the $900 premium package. They offer cheaper packages as well. Gym has a lot of exercise equipment. Frozen ice coffee is amazing. You get to choose an extra large plate/tray for any amount of food. Excursion desk was very helpful in rearranging our missed excursion trip. Some good bartenders. Cons: Constant multiple language announcements over the PA system that on average took 5-8 mins and during the morning hours of 8:30 am everyday as this was a European cruise. Limited (20 mins) time using treadmill. Machine shuts down automatically. Some users reset multiple times including us. No view of ocean when working out - only steel barrier. A bit frustrating - We needed to show passports on many occasions during boarding unlike others ships which is only one time when registering. We did not feel welcomed during the on-boarding process. No direction on where to go. Orientation to new guests was also disorganized. While walking onboard, some staff didn’t know where certain business were located. Some even told us to check the program so not so helpful with verbal directions. Only one restaurant assigned when booking so you’re stuck with only one restaurant but you can pay to dine at other restaurants onboard. Shower stall is extremely small. I’m 6 ft 225 lbs and could barely fit. Our room was a premium balcony cabin on deck 10 (middle of the ship). If you’re taller/heavier you need to consider this or possibly inquire about another floor or cabin. To wash my back, I needed to open the shower door to stretch and wash my back so the floor literally got wet. Very poor shower water pressure and only one trash can in balcony room. Pillows are dead, flat and very uncomfortable. Some bartenders made cocktails too sugary or weak. Need to explain carefully how you like your drink. If you’re going on all-day excursions on MSC, make sure you choose the second seat dining/dinner at 8:30 pm if not you’ll be eating at the buffet. We like kids but there were kids at all the bar rooms/lounges/clubs until late night. They shouldn’t have children hanging out at the bar. They should have a designated area for kids. We didn’t want to be a bar having a cocktails with kids around us. Other cruise lines we’ve experienced does not allow children near a bar let alone to sit at a bar. At the bar 8 pm one night having a cocktail and no music at all. Onboard entertainment is horrible in our opinion. Entertainment is more child-like. Wife and I were having cocktails at the bar and the music suddenly stopped because they were going on a break. Only one band on the Prezioza cruise line. We left one bar and decided to walk over to two other bars and again no music. Paid for premium alcohol package but on one occasion was told that the bartender was on break. When disembarking for excursions, MCS needs to have workers directing where customers need to go. On several occasions, there were no directions provided so some were lost for a few mins. Very disorganized process. We left 2 cocktails in our room and upon return at night, the very same two drinks were still in the room. For the first 3 days we had sheets on the bed but then for 2 days, no extra sheet under the blanket which would be typical in cruise lines hotels etc. Read Less

Our trip began with five days in Paris at the Novetel Les Halles. Because we booked the hotel a little late we were not able to book the transfer from the hotel to Le Havre. Instead our transfer was from the Gare Montparnasse which necessitated quick Sunday morning taxi ride arranged by the hotel. A friendly Princess Representative quickly assisted with boarding the coach and we were on our way to Le Havre. Once in Le Havre luggage was gathered, cruise cards obtained, French Boarder Control navigated and we were boarding the Royal Princess in under 10 minutes. When we travel we look forward to the unexpected experiences. Our goal is to be prepared but also ready to enjoy changes to plans. On another cruise, a strike in Le Havre necessitated a change in itinerary to Belgium which became one of the highlights of that trip. We were looking forward to Bergen, Belfast, and Newfoundland this cruise. Weather has a way of changing plans. In an effort to keep the passengers, crew, and ship safe Princess quickly put together alternative ports and excursions in Vigo, Spain and Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal. We must applaud them for their effort to keep us safe but also to offer us unexpected experiences. Not only did passengers receive a $200 onboard credit but also a very generous 20% future cruise credit for fare paid between South Hampton and New York due to the change in itinerary. What a great reason to book another cruise(s) with those ports. The crew on the Royal Princess was top notch. Each crew member was friendly and helpful. The behavior of several passengers towards crew was cringe worthy. However, the Royal Princess crew handled the situations with grace and dignity. Fixed dinning was our choice this time and each meal was enjoyed at a leisurely pace rather than the goal of many chain restaurants to reseat the table every 35 – 45 minutes. Our wait staff allowed us to enjoy each course before bringing the next. The food each breakfast and dinner was well prepared and delicious. The waiter and assistant anticipated our needs and worked hard to make every meal enjoyable. We mentioned that Indian food was a favorite and one evening we were surprised with an Indian feast prepared just for us! The Stateroom Steward freshened our stateroom quickly during our breakfast. The bathroom was always cleaned with fresh linens twice a day. Each day she made the effort to greet us and ask whether we needed anything. Vines became the favorite place to enjoy a glass of wine before and after dinner. The staff at Vines was outstanding. After our first visit at the beginning of the cruise we were greeted by name each time we visited. Due to the change in itinerary some of Vines patron’s favorite items became scarce. Rocky, the Vines Bartender, used his contacts at the other bars on board to find adequate supplies of customer favorites. All too soon, the cruise came to an end. The UN General Assembly made the transfer to the Hilton Midtown a bit slower. The coach driver kept us entertained and informed about the sites along the way. The Hilton Midtown was in an excellent location. The Princess Representative worked hard to make sure that we were at the airport in adequate time despite the scarcity of taxis, heavy traffic, and closed streets. We look forward to sailing with Princess Cruises again. Read Less

We chose this cruise as our 35 anniversary celebration and had always had wonderful cruises previously with Princess. We did the 12 day United Kingdom with Kirkwall. The ports were wonderful, we had no complaints with the itinerary at all. The ship was a disappointment. We hated the buffet set up. Narrow hallways that blocked you view of what was available and you had to keep backtracking and searching for food because you missed it and couldn’t see where it was. Top that off with mediocre food and it was a big disappointment. The main dining room wasn’t much better. The menu was slanted heavily towards seafood which is fine if you eat it my husband doesn’t. The beef was usually tough and the soups were very salty. Otherwise the food was very under seasoned. I ordered chicken satay one night that was billed as spicy. It had no flavour at all let alone spicy. The pizza restaurant Alfredo’s was great for food and wait staff the maitre’d was unreasonable and wouldn’t seat you where requested even if the place was half empty. The Crown grill was excellent but I don’t think you should have to pay extra to get decent food on a very expensive cruise. The entertainment was dull and uninteresting in the theatre, in the main atrium it was actually quite good. Read Less

Our second time on Magnifica this year-this time for 10 days-and we had an equally fabulous time! Entertainment was great and we loved the dancing each night. We were delighted that Kalid had been promoted since our last visit in May- this young Moroccan man is talented, great with customers and is going places! Hope to see him as a Cruise Director one day! The whole entertainment team work well together, are fun and get you joining in (but leave you if you really don’t want to!) We personally don’t like The Quest and another American style ‘crude’ entertainment but we just avoided lounge at that time. We liked the games where you guess the songs and all the dances such as Bongi Bongi sang and dance-led by the brilliant Duo Magic Sound. The food was fine and we always found something each night in the Quattro Vente restaurant even if this meant having three starters or two mains as choices! I even started with sweets if I fancied it! We were delighted with our allocated table for two, as if we needed to listen to others, the conversation on the next table was so loud we heard it all anyway! As we are both Black loyalty status, we had the chance for two free meals at speciality restaurant but we chose to go only once. It has always been near to empty whenever we saw it and this really needs looking at by MSC. It’s not working as Asian Restaurant. Why not make it into a specialty Italian restaurant or (not my fave choice as mostly veggie) a Steakhouse? The service wasn’t as good as last time. Odd as only two tables to cover in the near empty place and as its special I expected special service! It looks great but possibly a missed opportunity for something much better? We had the drinks package again and this is great value even as we don’t drink lots. We used it for bottles of water, specialty teas, coffees and juices too. MSC as listened to the feedback and there is now draught Guinness onboard covered by package! The spa was good again and the friendly receptionist recognised us and greeted us every day. We bought the couples massage and daily pass package again. Sometimes the area near jacuzzis was full or had towels on each of the 6 loungers. I enjoyed the few occasions I went and got the jacuzzi to myself which is why I bought the pass. Have you ever had a massage and thought ‘I don’t want this to stop’? I can’t believe that when we had our 30min Bali massage one woman tried to up-sell it by saying “we have a special offer and can continue for another 30minutes for and extra cost plus service charge as there ‘is an offer on’”. Talk about selling while someone’s half asleep! Luckily I came around enough in time to say “I’ll think about it for another time”. She looked disappointed when we decided not to book at the time but ‘go away and consider it’. I just wish they wouldn’t try to up-sell and let customers enjoy the experience and decide for themselves. There was improvement with the spa staff not obviously talking about customers as they left the exit of the spa. This time there were smiles and thanks given instead. Perhaps comments were noticed in last review? One awful bit was when we 1st got on our drinks package didn’t show up on the ship’s computer although I paid through travel agent at time of booking. The receptionist was adamant there was ‘a big red cross’ next to it on her computer and kept insisting I must have cancelled it and I had NOT paid for it. I knew this wasn’t true, and as we had left Southampton, I had no way of contacting my agent. I felt very upset! I showed her on my phone my confirmation but all of a sudden- with no apology she declared- the computer has now changed and ‘ I can see you have paid and it is now on the card’. Not a good start to the holiday but although it took me a while to calm myself and feel ok - I don’t know what I would have done if ‘computer had not said “yes!” I provide customer service in my workplace and this young woman needs extra training. Over all we had a fabulous time and I miss Ship Life! Magnifica is headed for a world tour next otherwise I am sure we would go on again soon! It did make us feel more impressed with MSC and make this company a strong contender to NCL which we used to use regularly before but now tend to be less value for money than MSC. Read Less

Thank you to previous review writers of this cruise ship. Our expectations were fairly low with all the negative reviews, but we still booked because we liked the ports . Surprise, we loved the ship. I should point out I’ve also travelled on bigger ships with the Celebrity and Norwegian lines. Many complained about the meals. We found them delicious ( except for one night) Some complained about the portions being too small. This was great for me I have a tendency to eat everything on my plate and get overfull. What people might not know is you could order two or three main courses. Don’t like the one you ordered, the waiter got another. Want a second helping, no problem. The menus were varied. My only complaint was you had to pay for a lobster tail meal for 22 euro. The menu said lobster tails ( plural) in 5 languages ( plural ) but you only get one ... however it was delicious . I never found any of the people on board pushy ( some reviews complained about pushy Italians)and the staff were mostly friendly and courteous... a few female waiters could smile a bit more. The ship was nicely decorated and very clean. The theatre had a very glitzy Art Deco style. It took a few days to realize there was this nice dining area at the back buffet on deck 13. Also it leads to an quiet upper seating area on deck 14. Our balcony cabin was quite roomy and I had way more storage than on Celebrity or Norwegian. There was also this huge mirror across from the bed that made it seem larger. Ship improvements-There is always room for improvements and I wish there was some trash cans around the boat, when we had small trash to throw out. Also there are no clocks on board so I had to carry around my iPhone for the correct time. Embarking and Disembarking was amazingly fast. I think this is because people get on and off at different ports, so there is less congestion. The ports were the reason we took the cruise and we were not disappointed. Suprisingly one of our favourite ports was La Coruna a very picturesque town that we enjoyed strolling and taking photos. We only booked two excursions which were disappointing. At Verdon, we booked the wine excursion to the Medoc wine area. We chose this over the Bordeau because we did not want to be on a bus for a long tim. But we ended up being mostly on the bus for the entire 4 hours, except for 10 minutes outside the gates of one chateau and less than an hour at another chateau. It was suppose to be a French chateau but it’s now owned by the Chinese and the wine was not to my liking. Also the tour guide was silent for the majority of the tour... horrible. In Southampton we did London on your own excursion . Our bus had no AC and the windows could not be opened . Just two vents in the roof that one woman kept closing, not caring the people in the second half of the bus were left in sweltering heat . I should have investigated the hop on hop off better. Don’t buy it on the cruise. Cheaper lines sell the passes all over London . We don’t have time for this expensive option which included a boat ride and extended routes. We paid way too much. I wish we had just one hour more in the Southampton port so London was not so rushed. But we did enjoy our time there . Ports... La Coruna..as mentioned we loved it. We’re photographers and the old town wasn’t crowded in the early morning and very picturesque . Bilbao-took the shuttle. Visited The Guggenheim and the old town. We lucked into to two great exhibits at the Guggenheim . Excellent port Verona - see note above Amsterdam- great port, very crowded, we visited the Rijksmuseum ( booked on our own before the cruise )and booked our own nighttime canal wine and cheese cruise. Hamburg- not my favourite port Southampton -see London comments above. Ship entertainment -we liked the shows. I understand the limitations of having multilingual passengers. The shows on Norwegian were better but a pain to line up for tickets and limited seating. This was more relaxed and I loved the West Side Story show. Dining- we had a late seating with two other couples and had a great time with them. Luckily we all spoke English. On a few occasions non English passengers were seated with us. I think they may have had free seating. They seemed uncomfortable and isolated . More time should be taken matching up table partners based on a common language. As mentioned we enjoyed our food in the dining room and the buffet. I miss the watermelon Read Less

This was our second TA cruise. Our plane arrived 11 pm at Ft. Lauderdale the day before the cruise so we spent the night at the airport to save money. Embarking was smooth but the crush of people at the lunch buffet was overwhelming and the food was underwhelming. I was hoping the boring food was not a sign of things to come. Our cabin was a balcony with a love seat. The decor was old 80s style. We both thought it was shabby and dated. Cabin steward was friendly and came to our rescue when we had been drinking and lost our room key. Had one special dinner at the Crown Grill which was decent with good service. The food in the dining room was mediocre at best. The food was tired and dated. I have no idea where they found those spindly little lobsters on lobster night. Really pathetic. Why even bother. The wait staff attentive. The desserts were outstanding especially the chocolate ones. The buffet was hit and miss - I did love the sushi, shrimp and roast beef but everything else was just ok with exception of the desserts which were quite wonderful. The buffet waitstaff was good when they were not pushing some wine tasting event or the like. I felt embarrassed for them having to bother people with sales pitches. I hate getting hassled to buy things when I am trying enjoy my meal. It was almost impossible to get a seat by the window. Most of the entertainment was fine. Although the comedians told the same tired jokes that might have been funny in the 1950s but were just boring now days. The new Silk Road production was ok but I wondered why on earth they could not use original music instead of pop songs. In some cases the pop songs did not match the story line. This seemed lazy not to hire someone to write original music and it ruined the production for my husband and I. The only standout in terms of talet was Perry Grant. He is such an original and unique talent. We loved his shows but so did everyone else and we could never get a seat. He should be moved to a larger venue that can accommodate all his fans. The library was small and had a smallish selection of books. i did like that they had many travel books. The library table was monopolized by the puzzle people. They hogged all the chairs working on their puzzles at all hours. When I tried to move one of their finished puzzles to take some notes on a travel book I was reading several of the puzzle people turned on me like rabid dogs. It was scary. The puzzle people should be moved to a different room or better yet throw the puzzles overboard. Excursion desk was great. The lady that gave the port lectures was wonderful. Bermuda was pleasant but not a place I would return to. Azores was amazing and spectacular. Lisbon had a horrible hop on hop off bus that was late and waited until it was filled so we were stuck on the bus for an hour. My advice is to just take a taxi to the tourist area.. Booked a local tapas and wine walking tour. Le Havre was boring. Disembarking was easy. Read Less
