We chose this cruise as our 35 anniversary celebration and had always had wonderful cruises previously with Princess. We did the 12 day United Kingdom with Kirkwall. The ports were wonderful, we had no complaints with the itinerary at all. The ship was a disappointment. We hated the buffet set up. Narrow hallways that blocked you view of what was available and you had to keep backtracking and searching for food because you missed it and couldn’t see where it was. Top that off with mediocre food and it was a big disappointment. The main dining room wasn’t much better. The menu was slanted heavily towards seafood which is fine if you eat it my husband doesn’t. The beef was usually tough and the soups were very salty. Otherwise the food was very under seasoned. I ordered chicken satay one night that was billed as spicy. It had no flavour at all let alone spicy. The pizza restaurant Alfredo’s was great for food and wait staff the maitre’d was unreasonable and wouldn’t seat you where requested even if the place was half empty. The Crown grill was excellent but I don’t think you should have to pay extra to get decent food on a very expensive cruise. The entertainment was dull and uninteresting in the theatre, in the main atrium it was actually quite good. Read Less

the first word that comes to mind about the Royal Princess is WAIT .... The ship is very nice the main plaza has a "rich" look. the ship has a nice layout, you should never feel crowded. The shows are different every night, to satisfy every taste. Emergency drill is becoming a joke .... they do it only to annoy passengers ... what will people do in case of an emergency ... .eg. Costa Concordia .... The food is good either at the cafeteria or the dinning room. Menu covers all sections of "palate" beef, chicken, pork, vegetarian and fish. I think the staff was reaching the end of their contract .... they looked tired .... distant .... cold attitude but always polite. Saw better on other cruises we did only a dozen of cruises, first time on Princess, but never waited this long to embark the ship, never waited this long to disembark in EVERY port (up to 2 hours ).... unless you purchase a one of their excursions (read delux bus ride) Dining room you will wait to get a table if you are "selective" otherwise they place you with other who already have started their dinner .... The assistant cruise directors were AMAZING!!! The room steward as well, I cannot say enough good things about them. Staff - wonderful. However, the boat itself was run like it was a maiden voyage, terribly unorganzied. Muster station meeting - NO staff showed up to run it. Hundreds of us in the theater waiting on "mandatory" meeting that has no staff. We left after 25 minutes as did most people. First port, had to meet in huge room and wait and wait and wait. The staff lady told us one thing about our passports, but when we went to leave ship security would not let us go due to a passport issue. So I had another staff walkie-talkie the same lady in the wait room and she reiterated we could leave ship, but security said no. So that staff took us to her where she flat out lied - to us and that staff - and changed her story about what we were supposed to do with our passports. This happened to several people, we were all in the same waiting room, all heard the same thing, she was incorrect then lied to cover herself and caused us all to be dealyed. We had one Princess excursion, had to change busses before we even left, not even organized for their excursion. All our other outings were not booked with Princess. Two of the days we had no power in our bathroom mini-suite. Took total of 4 showers in the dark. First time the lights were back on when we returned to room after dinner, power died while we were exploring a port. Second day it had happened over night, also no power in any outlet in entire room, meaning no phones charged all night. It took 3 calls to the front desk from me, a call from my steward, and a call from another staff member in our hallway before a guy playing a game on his phone came to fix it - over an hour and a half. Since we were at a port, we had to take showers in the dark and have phones that died while in a foreign country. The issue was a breaker popped each time, could've been fixed in 2 seconds if anyone had bothered to show up to fix it. Long waits for tenders. Over an hour to come or go. Never experienced that on our non-Princess cruises with another brand. Interestingly, on the in-room tv, there was a taping saying how a large boat would be used to transfer passengers as well as the ship lifeboats, but that never happened. Also odd to me, we didn't travel far between ports but we ended up docking in several late. Again, never late to a port in our other cruises. Food in buffet did not change much, not great food. Pizza station very yummy! Did like that buffet staff brought drinks instead of serve yourself, the staff there was awesome also. Super slow dining room, waits every times, par for the course tho, only went twice. Bought myself the soda package, the bar staff were wonderful and personable when pouring my pop. Just of interest, the staff member we did not see was the cruise director herself. We weren't the only ones wondering who the heck our director was, and we attended most of the functions, at least three activities a night on port days, more on sea days. Other cruises, the director has been everywhere, talking to passengers, doing fun announcements, etc. Our director left after one dance celebrating the ship's 5th birthday even. Just thought it odd. Again, the assistants were WONDERFUL. Transfers to and from ship - I recommend to get your own. We booked from CDG to ship with Princess, no one was there to meet us, then we waited over 2 hours for bus. I asked staff twice if there would be a bathroom on the bus and both said yes. There was no bathroom. If we had used a taxi or other service, we would've arrived to ship at least 2 hours earlier. Also, staff didn't help with luggage, which we've never experienced, not even to load it onto the Princess bus, we all loaded our own luggage through the airport and onto the bus. From ship to CDG on Princess bus - gross, seats with gooey stuff on then, crumbs everywhere, disgusting. Also I am still waiting for my folio refund. I have emailed Princess three times about it and received nothing but automatic emails. Public bathrooms were extremely clean. Ship very clean in general. First two days a staff member commanded those entering dining room to wash their hands. For those going - you must put your keycard into a slot near the door to have lights work. Highly recommend all the activities onboard. Many more options than we are used to. Game shows, silly contests, Bingo, karaoke, trivia, shows, tea, tastings .. it's non-stop! Excellent staff, disorganized, plenty to do onboard, not great food, good price, great ports. Mini-suite big, balcony small. Expect bumps, have patience, be persistent if you shower in the dark, you will have fun! Read Less

This was our second TA cruise. Our plane arrived 11 pm at Ft. Lauderdale the day before the cruise so we spent the night at the airport to save money. Embarking was smooth but the crush of people at the lunch buffet was overwhelming and the food was underwhelming. I was hoping the boring food was not a sign of things to come. Our cabin was a balcony with a love seat. The decor was old 80s style. We both thought it was shabby and dated. Cabin steward was friendly and came to our rescue when we had been drinking and lost our room key. Had one special dinner at the Crown Grill which was decent with good service. The food in the dining room was mediocre at best. The food was tired and dated. I have no idea where they found those spindly little lobsters on lobster night. Really pathetic. Why even bother. The wait staff attentive. The desserts were outstanding especially the chocolate ones. The buffet was hit and miss - I did love the sushi, shrimp and roast beef but everything else was just ok with exception of the desserts which were quite wonderful. The buffet waitstaff was good when they were not pushing some wine tasting event or the like. I felt embarrassed for them having to bother people with sales pitches. I hate getting hassled to buy things when I am trying enjoy my meal. It was almost impossible to get a seat by the window. Most of the entertainment was fine. Although the comedians told the same tired jokes that might have been funny in the 1950s but were just boring now days. The new Silk Road production was ok but I wondered why on earth they could not use original music instead of pop songs. In some cases the pop songs did not match the story line. This seemed lazy not to hire someone to write original music and it ruined the production for my husband and I. The only standout in terms of talet was Perry Grant. He is such an original and unique talent. We loved his shows but so did everyone else and we could never get a seat. He should be moved to a larger venue that can accommodate all his fans. The library was small and had a smallish selection of books. i did like that they had many travel books. The library table was monopolized by the puzzle people. They hogged all the chairs working on their puzzles at all hours. When I tried to move one of their finished puzzles to take some notes on a travel book I was reading several of the puzzle people turned on me like rabid dogs. It was scary. The puzzle people should be moved to a different room or better yet throw the puzzles overboard. Excursion desk was great. The lady that gave the port lectures was wonderful. Bermuda was pleasant but not a place I would return to. Azores was amazing and spectacular. Lisbon had a horrible hop on hop off bus that was late and waited until it was filled so we were stuck on the bus for an hour. My advice is to just take a taxi to the tourist area.. Booked a local tapas and wine walking tour. Le Havre was boring. Disembarking was easy. Read Less
