We had a large group of college classmates...average age 67...with their spouses. It was awesome to do the daily excursions together, meat for drinks and dinner and entertainment every night. The Viking Kadlin was so welcoming, clean, quiet. Our one-room cabin was roomy with lots of storage (who would have thought it?). The bathroom was spotless with a heated floor. The food was scrumptious and the service crew assiduous and polite...all spoke English very well even though most of them were Eastern European by birth. Each day we had a ship newspaper with the schedule of activities and meals and other events. One day we had a tour of the bridge with Captain (the vessel crew were all French)...the Kadlin is a very modern ship with all the bells and whistles of navigation and power systems to enable the Captain to ensure a smooth and safe trip. The excursion guides were all local experts...we learned so much of about the towns, battlefields and France. The activity director was super...funny, patient, and knowledgable. Wow! We were so impressed that we want to take another Viking Cruise. Read Less

Many of the locations were interesting, including Honfleur, and the Giverny, the Normandy Beaches,American Cemetery,Pointe du Hoc, and 2 1/2 days for Paris explorations. One excursion included a visit to a working farm which talked about cheese makingbut did not include a demonstration or show cheese being made or stored--nota wise use of 2 hours. Food service was efficient and lthe menu had several daily main choices. Unofrtunately, with one exception, the half dozen or so culinary demonstrations were heild in the small Captains Lounge in the rear of the ship and not in the Main Lounge. Giiven the smaller location, the demonstrations were limited to a maximum of 25 people. If you were not in the 25, you were given a priority to attend the next demonstration. So for many a highlight of the cruise was not frequently available. The Paris river port locations and thier nearby RER stations within 1-4 miles of the Eiffel Tower could have been better pinpointed to facilitate explorations. Read Less

My husband retired in June and we decided to celebrate by going on this cruise. We had contemplated planning and organizing an itinerary on our own (which is what we do most of the time) but decided to leave it to Scenic! We had made our own arrangements, arriving several days earlier to enjoy Paris. We checked into the hotel provided with our cruise, Le Scribe (Sofitel) which is always good. Others went to the Westin and I understand that it was equally very good. Thereafter we took a TGV to Chalon sure Soane where we boarded our Ship. Embarkation was a breeze and our luggage was already in the room. In the past, when we traveled with my in-laws, all the women received a rose but no longer- a minute change which I did not miss but noted! The Sapphire ship is the oldest of the Scenic fleet but it had been refurbished so it appeared to the the same as two others we had been on. Our cabin (junior suite) was comfortable and had a shower tub combo. Our butlers, Vlad and Dominik were solicitous, discrete, efficient and went out of their way to ensure we were well taken care of, which we were. The lady that cleaned our room was equally efficient, warm and caring. The fitness area had three modern machines (Elliptical, treadmill and bicycle and hand weights/balls and the like) which I did use three times. The first time the room was very warm but this was quickly remedied after I reported it to the cruise director . "Dragun", the fitness expert had daily morning exercise/stretching classes which were excellent. The entertainment was good and varied (as per my husband as I did not attend most of them because port excursions were early morning) . If port excursions had had started one hour later as I would have been able to attend the evening entertainment, as in the past, I always did attend them but then we cruised at night (which we did not on this cruise). Unlike most people on board, I am not retired and had to go back to work upon our return so I wanted to be rested! If there is something Scenic could change, is perhaps doing a bit more travel in the evening (and even at night?) so that excursions could start later.... Dining /meals were very good to excellent- However we were disappointed at the meal served at "L'Amour" (a plate of charcuterie as part of appetizer?) as we were with dinner served at the Pope's palace in Avignon-such a beautiful venue with a live ensemble but food (except for dessert) was not good at all. Additionally, we had two bottle of wines for a table of 8 and when someone asked for another bottle we were told "there is no more wine"- Perhaps having a cocktail reception (with Chateauneuf du Pape wines)with an ensemble and include the daily port talk by the cruise director as an alternative? Our cruise director, Eric was outstanding- self -assured, with excellent public speaking skills, knowledgeable, solicitous, warm & with attention to details, he ensured that we (and the staff which appeared to get along well with one another, and be cohesive ) had a good time, while at the same time managing the unexpected. For example, we were to disembark in Tarascon but because of water issues the cruise did not end there- he reviewed with us our alternatives and efficiently arranged transportation to Nice. As cruise director, Eric should probably mentor those wishing to follow in his steps! Of all our cruises, I remember only another cruise director, and not for the same reasons! Our captain was visible, accessible, and friendly. The sommelier "Agostino" (equally approachable and knowledgeable) presented daily offerings, and explained well why they were chosen. The chef prepared regional dishes which were well executed. Buffet breakfast and lunch were varied ,very good, and provided a certain amount of time efficiency. Of note is that we observed one of the chef going out on bicycle to buy gluten free bread for a passenger! Port excursions were varied, with options for the "gentle walkers " to more active ones (cycling, hiking) which we enjoyed, even hiking the vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape! Overall, this was a memorable cruise. I was very sad when the vacation came to an end. Beautiful destination with outstanding service. I would recommend it to anyone. Read Less

We arrived a few days early to explore Paris on our own. After boarding the ship, we enjoyed our time on ship and explored Le Pecq (port city). Our experience in Normandy was very moving as Viking gave us flowers to place on the grave of our choice and conducted a service in memory of our troops who lost their lives. Viking's longboats are very comfortable, the staff is always working to make life onboard fun, the food is excellent and the excursions are informative/educational. We traveled with a group of 18 who took our own excursions, but joined together in the evenings for cocktails and dinner. The dining staff was very helpful in securing a section for our group to assure we had the opportunity to dine together. When we returned to Paris, our group chose to take the fast train to Lyon and connect with another Viking ship to Avignon. We were coached to the train station and a Viking representative was with us until we boarded. A Viking representative was waiting for our arrival in Lyon where we were coached to our new ship. Well done, Viking! Read Less

The Toronto Globe & Mail sponsored and structured this extraordinary cruise. Having senior writers from the Globe was valuable and value added. We did the Globe cruise from Istanbul back in 2009. The Scenic Globe cruise was equal and surpassed this first cruise experience. The staff of Scenic are outstanding. I was a senior executive with The Walt Disney Company and know something about customer and guest experience. Tours, food, hospitality, onboard infrastructure all excellent. We also knew many of the fellow guests so that was a huge plus. The Rhone and the south of France seen from the cruise ship truly the experience of a lifetime. Congratulations and thanks to the Globe & Mail and Scenic for a truly inspired cruise. Bravo! From Paris to Dijon to Lyon (arrived at night to full light show) to Avignon to Nice and every stop and tour in between, truly brought the culture, history and beauty of Burgundy, Beaujolis, Provence and related Rhone River areas to life. 2000 year old Pont du Gard Roman acqueduct not to be missed. Chateau Neuf du Pape worth the hike. Pope's Palace and dinner in Avignon spectacular. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was a themed World War 2 history cruise. If we hadn't taken a private tour before getting onboard, I would have left disappointed. The guest lecturer, Nigel Stewart, was able to give us a broad overview of the history of the war that happened in the areas we were traveling. He stayed on ship all week and you could ask him questions pretty much at any time. The disappointment of the WW2 history was in the tours that were offered. There is a 2 1/2 hour travel time involved each way, so I understand that their is only so much time. But, we felt rushed during the tour because we had to get back on the bus and go again. So much to see and learn and we left feeling that we needed to go back and see things again because of what we missed. The ship was very nice and clean. A very modern ship. Other than watching the world float by or sitting in the sun, not much else to do on board. The WIFI is spotty at best unless you sit in the lounge area. The food was disappointing, but was okay. If possible, we ate in the lounge every night as they served the same food as in the main dinner area. It was in sample size portions so that was nice to try the different selections. The crew was very nice all around. They made the trip as they were always trying to exceed your expectations. The captain was nice and was always around. Our room was very nice, clean, and felt bigger than it was. We were lucky to not be docked next to other boats all the time, so we had a decent view in the different docking locations. Overall, I would sail with Avalon again, but do things more on my own for tours. Read Less

This was our first cruise. We wanted to see the Normandy Beaches, which did not disappoint. We had a WWII historian traveling with us and his presentations were very interesting and insightful! All of the villages and towns had beautiful cathedrals and incredible architecture, so many sights to photograph and experience. The food on the boat was delicious and plentiful! We enjoyed some of the best chocolate chip cookies daily in the aft lounge. The Captain, Cruise Director and the Crew on the TapastryII were so informative and personable. Our room was beautiful and it was such a treat to open the sliding glass door which converted our room to a French balcony to be able to enjoy the river as we cruised! Being able to see and experience all the sites that we had only read about in history books or seen on TV was amazing! I would highly recommend this trip! We are already planning our next cruise!!! This location was a place my late husband had always wanted to visit as a WW II history buff. My daughter and I took the cruise in his honor to visit and hear about the times and places he had such avid interest in. We selected this cruise because of its focus and that there would be a historian to accompany along the trip. Nigel Stewart was wonderful on his delivery of what was happening during the time leading up to the Normandy invasion. His insight on the military figures, leaders and family stories was so engaging. The Captain, Cruise Director and the entire crew and staff were absolutely wonderful and made our cruise such a wonderful, delightful, and special vacation for us. Everyone was so attentive and cared for our every request. The Cruise Director, Tony Williamson, had the perfect communication plan to gather us to advise us on the next day's activities and what we needed to know. He and Captain Rudy were always at at the gang plank to send us off and greet us when we returned to wish us a great trip. Staff in the lounge or dining room were attentive and quickly addressed any requests for extra bread, drinks and freely poured wine during the entire meal. Excellent service by all. The ship was beautiful and our state room was great. Small, but that is what cruise cabins are, and the condition and fixtures were more than accommodating to our needs. The staff always cared for us and made our trip so enjoyable. Meals were amazing and the group dinner meals or the quick self serve lunch in the lounge were equally delicious and delightful. Cruising during meal times added so much to seeing sights along the river while gently cruising along. The only criticism we had was that if you sat in the middle part of the main diining room there were lengthy delays in being served. On one such meal iwe were not served our main entree, when our table neighbors had already finished their dessert. Excursions offered were very enjoyable and depending on the guide, we were provided with great history, background with time to venture around the villages. The only disappointments were a stop in Caudebec and one of the Paris excursions when we returned to port. We arrived at Caudebec, and the excursion offered was not of interest to us, but then it turns out that the village shops were not open on Mondays. So while we could walk around to visit see the village, we could not shop for any local specialties. The Paris bike tour was not as was presented and should have indicated not for a novice rider, Perhaps the group of 11 was too large, but we traveled through heavily trafficked Paris streets and tourists venues. So my own ride was stressful in that I was worried about staying connected to the group and out of the car and pedestrian pathways that I did not enjoy it at all. Embarking and disembarking were flawless, clearly defined processes, bags were picked up immediately as we put them outside our state room, and were outside our transfer without having to identify them first. The ship crew were wonderful and so professional. The Tapestry II cruise was our first ever cruise of any kind and I must say I feel spoiled that I would not want to cruise any other way!!! I loved being able to sit out on the front, top deck or rear lounge areas while we cruised. It was so peaceful, presented great opportunity for pictures along the way, or just to get alone time if you wanted it. Other travelers were so friendly and it was great to meet others and talk about their travel experiences and why they chose the cruise as well. We also booked additional time before and after the cruise that Globus assisted us with for hotel and transfers. All was done with no effort on our part and went very smoothly. The few negatives mentioned, did not spoil our trip and we had a wonderful time. Avalon will be a first choice for a new adventure! Read Less

My first experience with Viking and it did not disappoint. Both the travel and the service was first class. The food was excellent and the cultural experience was wonderful. Each of the excursions guides were well versed, provided helpful ideas for venturing off on your own, and had special local knowledge that enhanced our visit. No request was dismissed by the crew or the cruise director. We immediately booked our next Viking cruise before departure. The arrival and departure itself was well organized and Viking personnel made the transition easy and efficient. The lounge entertainment in the evenings was fantastic and our group (known as the Texas Mafia) closed the bar down every night. The cultural meetings held on the ship as either a preview or enhancement of excursions was both entertaining and educational. The dining service was exceptional as the crew made a significant effort to connect with the guests. The menus were varied and the food was excellent. Everything about the trip made us want to come back again. Read Less

The cruise staff all around was amazing. From the crew to the waiters, to everybody we saw on board. We loved all the activities we could choose from. Being able to pick between included excursions made our experience wonderful. The hardest decision was deciding between red and white wine or how many desserts to have! I had allergies, and the maître d’ was able to walk me through the menu each day in order for me to be successful. In our 40s, we were one of the youngest people on the trip, however everybody was welcoming and we enjoyed hanging out with people on the ship. Being able to sit wherever we want it allowed us to have dinner with different people each evening. Sometimes we wanted a more casual dinner and we would sit in the bistro, this was nice because you could pick smaller portions of several different entrées. We would definitely choose an Avalon vacation again. Read Less

Nothing Compares to Paris in the spring. My sister and I had planned a different cruise the year before but due to an accident we cancelled the trip. (A word of advice BUY insurance). This cruise meant so much to both of us. I cannot praise the crew enough. From the moment we landed we were treated like VIP’s. The ship was beautifully decorated, the food outstanding, the staff excellent. A special shout out to Mimi our cruise director, Nicky who sang and played every evening. The tours were delightful, especially the Giverny where the home of Monet gardens are located. Words cannot begin to describe the beauty there. After the cruise my sister and I spent 5days in Paris, we arranged this on our own. Paris, what’s not to love about Paris, it pulses life, culture , architecture, history, the people were very kind and friendly. Viva la France. Normandy (and Paris) have been on our must see list for some time. This presented the perfect opportunity to check off one more on the bucket list. Some free time in Paris and a day trip to Normandy were exactly what we was needed, although I must say, more time is needed to explore the museums and sites of the Normandy beaches. The overall cruise was wonderful with excellent service and delicious on board meals. Alexie, our primary waiter, was extremely efficient and very entertaining! The Viking Rolf was well appointed and very comfortable. Our French Balcony state room served us well and had everything needed for a comfortable night's rest. This particular river cruise did not showcase a great amount of river cruising, which was fine. We therefore had more time in various ports that provided the opportunity for additional local exploration, as well as some very enlightening shore excursions. Highly recommend! Read Less

We chose this cruise based on previous reviews and talking to the staff in Massachusetts directly. The service, wines, cheeses, and varied menus daily were all 5 stars! During the week we experienced 18 different cheeses at lunch and dinner as well as 22 different wines from the region. I had a birthday onboard and they went out of their way to make it super special including all of my favorites for dinner. Fresh pastries from a local bakery were brought in each morning. The cabin was very comfortable and had all the amenities that we needed. We especially liked the shower and heated towel rack. Hot water was abundant and unlimited bottled water appeared in your cabin. Though you never saw the hostesses go in and out of the staterooms, the cabin was always kept tidy. The crew knew our names from the get go and were always very attentive and friendly. There were enough bicycles onboard for cycling. The countryside was just as we thought it would be -- maybe better! I can't think of any aspect of the cruise that would not rate a 10. Kudos to the entire crew for providing us with such wonderful memories and great weather didn't hurt either. This trip is not for young children. The ship I thought was immaculate. Even the Maitre De worked hard. The servers were warm and friendly and efficient. This is my third cruise with Avalon and I'm still on the creativity. My first was amazing, second the passion I put up with quite a few no's and can't help you. Like Missing out on food, they pack up 10 minutes early. Staff taking plates away before you finished. Getting only a half glass of wine in 2 hours, constantly asking for a drink or top up. This cruise takes the cake. No no and more no's. Food is not ok. Frozen stale donuts in coffee lounge. Over cooked bacon and powdered eggs. Staff not looking at anyone just head down clearing plates. Hovering over you at afternoon tea serving food but only one peice each. I'm sure the drinks are watered down and only ever half full. I've bar trended before and not once have I had a decent drink! More ice than drink. Cocktail parties more food going down stairs than being offered to guests and that's on the last 2 cruises I have only had one peice of food at 3 cocktail parties. Tried to even buy a bottle to drink asked 4 people and got a NO. Would I book Avalon again NO Would I recommend Avalon NO. Read Less

Our group embarkation was a breeze granted the barge only holds 22 passengers! The staff was very friendly and accommodating to the entire group. I sailed with 11 others. Here is what you can expect: - Intimate, small boutique feel barge. Brand new and stylish. Ideal for family reunions and girlfriend getaways. - Great food - locally sourced and cooked daily. Our chef was just fantastic. - Cabins are very small, but it's a barge cruise so you will only be in your cabin to change clothes - trust me, you want to be experiencing the canals outside. - Loved the open air top terrace - especially beautiful viewing the Eiffel Tower from the river with a bonus of the original Lady Liberty! - Wine will be served at lunch and dinner everyday. All liquor included which we loved! - Staff is funny and looks for ways to entertain their guests and engage them in local culture and flavor. - We loved experiencing the canal locks - definitely a sight to see and experience first hand up close and personal. We are experienced cruisers and highly recommend adding the 3 night Paris Itinerary to your travels in France! Read Less

We choose the cruise because of the D Day beach on the agenda. We thought the ship was wonderful, accommodations and food outstanding. We enjoyed the fact that it was a smaller ship and could see the shore throughout the trip. We enjoyed the open seating arrangements as we got to meet many new friends. I took full advantage of the walking track to offset the wonderful food. There were a few nights when the dinner service was slow but courteous. This was the first cruise of the season, so still in a learning curve. The program director was a fountain of knowledge. I commend his historical knowledge and lectures. The tours were wonderful. It was disappointing to have the union strike delay one visit. Other than that, it was all wonderful. We have already booked another trip based on recommendations from some breakfast companions. We are going on the Rhine Getaway in December. My husband does not care for ocean cruises, but we are sold on Viking River Cruises and have added many more cruises to our bucket list. Great chance to see many different aspects of France. Although this was a wine cruise and we got to experience many different wineries and vineyards we also had the chance to tour the countryside on excursions and see many historical features as well. Towns were interesting and offered a variety of sites. The boat always offered an informative walking tour of each town. One review read prior to booking voiced displeasure in the fact that passengers who wished to do certain excursions were then bused to the boat further down river, rather than riding on the boat. Actually we found this to be a positive since it enabled us to see much more of the countryside than just riverbanks. Several informative wine pairings offered on the boat were also a plus. We found the staff and crew to be warm and friendly, willing to accommodate any wish we had. Dinners were well prepared and provided a nice variety. Lunches and breakfasts were average and seemed very repetitious. Suggestions would be to offer sandwiches in the dining room for lunch as well as upstairs in the lounge. Many times people in a group may want to experience both. Food on the buffets could have been warmer many times. We especially enjoyed the entertainment each night by Gino at the piano. The cruise would be great for anyone wishing a quiet time or for those who wished to enjoy a little of the entertainment at night. Read Less

It was 4am in the morning. My travel champion was in my driveway right on time. We loaded up my luggage and we were on our way to GRR to catch our United flight for a trip of a life time. We had a 10 hour lay over in Chicago and a 9 hour flight from ORD to CDG. Upon arriving in Paris, an Avalon Rep. was standing by the baggage claim, holding an Avalon sign. We were directed to the area where we would be picked up for our transfer to the hotel. This went very smooth. Our transfer took place on a very nice, newer, comfortable, air conditioned, spacious, clean, bus. Needless to say, we were exhausted when we got to the hotel. I googled the two Paris hotels listed in the brochure before our departure. I really liked one over the other. I was thrilled to see the Hotel du Collectionneur Arc de Triomphe was where we would be staying. This hotel looked beautiful online and was everything I hoped it would be. It is a 4-5 star hotel in an excellent location for shopping, dining or taking an evening stroll. It felt safe during our evening walk to a local restaurant. There was an excellent bakery and convenient grocery store just a few blocks from the hotel. After resting for a couple of hours, it was now time to meet our cruise director and sign up for any excursions we might have wanted to go on but had not sigh up for. Our Cruise Director, Katy Huyskens was excellent. She always had a big smile to greet us with and ready to give helpful advise. The next morning, after a much needed good night sleep, on a very comfortable bed, we had a delicious breakfast to wake up to that was included. After breakfast, we went on a very informative Paris City Tour Excursion that was included. We learned a lot about Paris. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable. In the afternoon, we took a Versailles Tour. I did my homework before the trip and was sure this was an excursion not to miss and I was right. In the evening, we went to see the show Lido. All the excursions we went on were excellent. The next day, in the afternoon, we took a high speed train to Luxembourg, then took a motorcoach to Remich to board the Avalon Artistry II Ship. As we were boarding the ship, we were greeted by the crew with warm welcome smiling faces. The ship was beautiful, our cabin was so inviting I didn't care to leave it. The minute we walked into our cabin we were in awe with the ceiling to floor, wall to wall French Balcony window view, which was truly amazing. I loved the bathroom in our cabin too. It was beautiful and so spacious. The views from our cabin were breath taking. We had sunny days with 60 degree temperatures. Taking in the gorgeous scenery of vineyards, the Moselle and Rhine River, watching the swans, ducks and heron float so peacefully near the edge of the river bank. The vibrant colorful fall colors on the trees covering the from our cabin window were truly a memory I hope last a life time. I did take a lot of pictures from our cabin to help keep that memory from fading. Doing a cruise with a theme was a lot of fun and very educational. Loved going to the vineyards, learning all about the wine industry and tasting the different wines. The food on the ship was excellent. At dinner it was an endless glass of wine, beer and soda. The waiters were always right there to accommodate all of our wants and needs. The service was outstanding. The workers worked so hard to keep all the guest happy and content. After dinner, it was a great time to sit back in the lounge, have a drink, listen to music and socialize with other guests. The entertainment at night was very enjoyable. The beauty of doing a river cruise is there are so fewer people than on the big cruise ships, a lot less walking to get to where you want to go, a much more intimate feeling, excursions are included, it's nice to have a glass of wine with your dinner that's included, you get to know many of the guest and have a close connection with them. I love stopping at all the ports of call verses doing an all inclusive where you are just at that resort for the length of your stay. When doing a big cruise ship cruise, you get hit with the expense of any excursions you my want to do and every drink you order. That can get extremely expensive. If a person is looking for romance on there vacation, I would highly recommend a river cruise. I didn't travel with children and there were no children on our cruise. I would definitely go on another Avalon River Cruise. I didn't want the one I was on to end. I absolutely love river cruising. Our first cruise adventure started with a 3 day guided tour of Paris, then took a train to Lyon and boarded the AmaDagio. From the moment we boarded, the crew were amazing. The very welcoming atmosphere, the cleanliness of our cabin, the quality of the food and dining experiences were so incredibly awesome, even after a month, I continue to spread the word to family, friends and co-workers that this cruise is a "MUST DO" in their lifetime. The Amadagio exceeded our expectations that we are planning our next river cruise. One personal experience that really showed how much they care about each passenger, is one night I was feeling under the weather and didn't go to dinner. About half an hour after dinner started, there a was knock on my cabin door and there they were with a bowl of hot soup and bread and an offer that if I wanted dinner, to give them a ring and they will bring dinner to me. Talk about making me feel like I was very important. At that moment, my spirits were lifted and I slept very well. The daily guided tours to Lyon, Colognes, Vienne, Tourney, Viviers, St. Etienne, Avignon, Arles and Barcelona were so educational that they have sparked my interest into reading more European history, art and architecture. What an awesome learning adventure. My recommendation to anyone, you must do this river cruise. Thank you Amadagio crew of Captain Alex, Cruise Manager Camille and our favorite server, Stella. Thank you for making our first river cruise the best ever. See you soon!!! Read Less

We chose this cruise for the history of WWII and the Normandy Beaches. But it was so much more! The Excursions were the best, being disabled I rarely am able to see places except for in the buses. The tour guides were excellent, easy to understand and using the sound boxes made listening very easy. From Monet's Garden to Rouen's Joan of Arc each step of the way was even more interesting. My wife is retired Army and the ceremony at the American Cemetery was very well done and emotional. the Food was very good and pastries were fresh each morning you couldn't wait to get up! Our room is the same on each boat heated bathroom floors and everything you need provided. The TV had been upgraded since our last cruise and many more selections added. The on board entertainment was really an excellent piano player. Not you ship if you want entertainment. We stayed in Paris 2 nights following the cruise, we were shown how to use the subway ah so easy and clean. The Hotel was next to many great bakeries and restaurants. Great shopping! When it was time to go to the airport they picked us up in a Jaguar! All went very smoothly, looking forward to another adventure! Read Less

Every detail was taken care of. Food and service were outstanding. The excursions were well planned, the guides were very good, and the entertainment was extremely enjoyable. The Captain, Cruise Manager, Chef, Maitre d, the waiters, and the entire crew were exceptional in every way. The ship's decor was attractive, common areas were comfortable, and every area was very clean. The shore excursions were well planned and included in the price of the cruise. Adequate options were offered including different activity levels. Bicycles were available for those who desired them Embarkation and disembarkation was very smooth and airport transfers were very efficient. Information on board was helpful and always timely. This was my second river cruise with AmaWaterways. The previous one was the Tulip Cruise from Amsterdam and it was equally as enjoyable as this one. I look forward to many more. I highly recommend this cruise and this cruise line. Read Less

Wanted to visit Paris and see Monet's Garden and House as well as visit the beaches of Normandy. Our pre-cruise visit to Paris was wonderful and that we took advantage of the cooking schools that were available. Learned many things from the chef's and visited the fresh food markets and learned correct food preparation as well as wine parings. Also had so much fun visiting the sights of Paris again. There is always something new. The weather was great, not to hot and not to cold. Enjoyed the walking tours Viking had for us as well. Next on to the ship. It was so clean and neat. The crew was wonderful. They could not do enough for you. The captain was very attentive to the passengers and we saw him so much. It is always nice to know that he was around and ready to answer your every question. The stops made were very interesting and the excursions were very informative. The guides were outstanding and very knowledgeable and friendly. Could not have asked for better tour guides. Read Less

Having a chance to go to Paris for my first time and take my my first river cruise was a win - win situation:) From the moment the captain and crew greeted us upon our arrival I felt welcomed and at ease. The Tapestry II is a beautiful ship with comfortable rooms with luxury beds. The housekeeping staff is friendly and efficient. The dining experience is impressive. The menu has the right blend of familiar dishes and local specialities. Accommodations for special dietary needs are made readily. The wait staff work hard to make your dining experience a pleasure. The wine, beer and cocktails are of high quality. i enjoyed most all the excursions especially Monet's Garden, Rouen, Normandy beaches and of course the city Paris:) However, one of my favorite afternoons was simply relaxing in the lounge playing cards and conversing with friends. I am looking forward to planning my next river cruise soon! Read Less
