We had heard so many accolades from friends about Viking's cruises we wanted to try one with friends. From the very first contact with Viking reps at the Airport in Paris, Viking's service was outstanding. The ship was immaculate and very hospitable. The small size and "free range dining" allowed us to meet many new friends and share experiences. The food on board was absolutely wonderful...ALL MEALS. The service was extraordinary. Our Cruise Director, Lionel was the best. He was truly a showman and put together great entertainment packages for us throughout the cruise. The excursions were very well planned and coordinated. He made a great cruise superb! Don't know what you're paying him, but it's not enough!!!!Each guide we had was terrific, in that ,they were very knowledgeable and very responsive. There seemed to be the right amount of free time and guided tours if you so desired. I do wish there had been more time at the Beaches of Normandy, but we do understand the travel/time restraints on all. All in all we had a wonderful experience and will return for another Viking cruise...WELL DONE! Read Less

This trip was amazing from the start. We were met by Viking representatives that had a desk at the airport. We were driven from the airport to the Paris Marriott Opera Ambassador Hotel. We had no idea that it would be so far from the airport. We had initially considered finding a cheaper hotel and seeing Paris on our own. We so glad that we decided to book the 3-day pre-cruise in Paris. It gave us the opportunity to rest after the long flight from the west coast. We also had the opportunity to visit top visitor attractions in Paris that other cruisers saw only on a bus tour. The hotel was close to the Opera House and many visitor attractions. But the best part of the trip is that we got to meet other Viking cruisers at the hotel and quickly became friends. We visited Notre Dame, the Louve, Musee D'Orsay, the Eifel Tower, and had the opportunity to use the Paris Metro transportation system with our new friends. Viking had a desk in the Paris Marriott Opera Ambassador Hotel and the pre-tour excursions and neighbor walk was well done. The hotel's buffet breakfast was great. We found Paris' attractions to be very crowded, although we were traveled during an off season. We especially enjoyed Viking's itinerary and being able to see places off of the beaten track: Giverney and Monet's Garden, Roeun and it's spired cathedrals, Normandy, and La Roche-Guyon with its amazing castle built next to a cliff and 300 spiraling steps that lead UP to the dungeons at the top. I could have stayed at Monet's Garden all day! The history of D-Day and Normandy lead us to do a lot of reading about WWII when we returned and gave us a greater appreciation of the ingenuity to build artificial harbors in England for the 5 Normandy beaches and the courage of our US and allied soldiers. We had previously gone on a Holland America cruise, but preferred the more intimate Viking river cruise experience with a maximum of 190 cruisers. The food and the service were superb. The chefs were very accommodating when there were special diet requirements. Throughout the trip, we liked the portable audio device that allowed us to hear the local guides clearly. We also liked that we were broken into smaller groups and that there were several guides. It was nice that daily excursions were included in the cruise price. Some of the excursions required us to get up early the next day so we didn't take advantage of the entertainment. We went only to one. The staff calls you by name. You are not a room number. Amazing! On the final day, a Viking agent accompanied us to the airport. We got to the airport 3 hours, 20 minutes before the departure time. It was like Disneyland with lines that snaked. We crept along one long line and that was followed by at least 3 additional long lines. We were so glad that a Viking agent was there to communicate with the French-speaking agent at the airport. We barely made it on to our flight. What made our trip especially memorable was meeting new friends. We hope that we can travel together on future Viking cruises. Everything was perfect and it this was one of our most memorable trips. Thank you Viking staff! Read Less

On this cruise with friends. Some had been with Viking before, I had not. The flight was a little challenging, going thru huge airports but we were met with Viking rep. who kept us on track and got us where we needed to be. The cabins on the Kadlin were so very clean, the staff was excellent, no request was too much. I very much enjoyed the excursions the guides were very well informed and spoke very well. Every time we left the boat we were given water and the same on the return if not a little snack. The Captain made himself available all the time. There were activities on board to prepare for some excursions. The food was excellent, if you went hungry it was your own fault, Especially enjoyed the local foods prepared on board. Enjoyed the restaurant at the Omaha Beach Golf club, local dining at it's best (part of the excursion). Would love to do another cruise. Read Less

Normandy (and Paris) have been on our must see list for some time. This presented the perfect opportunity to check off one more on the bucket list. Some free time in Paris and a day trip to Normandy were exactly what we was needed, although I must say, more time is needed to explore the museums and sites of the Normandy beaches. The overall cruise was wonderful with excellent service and delicious on board meals. Alexie, our primary waiter, was extremely efficient and very entertaining! The Viking Rolf was well appointed and very comfortable. Our French Balcony state room served us well and had everything needed for a comfortable night's rest. This particular river cruise did not showcase a great amount of river cruising, which was fine. We therefore had more time in various ports that provided the opportunity for additional local exploration, as well as some very enlightening shore excursions. Highly recommend! Read Less

My husband and I recently sailed with AmaWaterways on the AmaLyra from Paris up the Seine River and back to Paris, stopping along the way in Giverny, Honfleur, Caudebec, Rouen and Les Andelys. Between the two of us, we have been on several ocean cruises (Oceania, Royal Caribbean, NCL and Carnival) but this was our first river boat experience. I was a little unsure in initially booking a river cruise, but I ended up tremendously enjoying the experience and definitely will book with AmaWaterways again in the future. From the moment we arrived at the dock in Paris, where we were greeted enthusiastically and our luggage whisked away to our cabin, to the day we departed, our expectations were met or exceeded. Our cabin was nicely appointed with a French balcony, king-sized bed with comfortable linens, comfy robes and slippers, and a bath with a shower, though not large, was fine for the two of us. The cabin had a flat-screen monitor and computer with WiFi included for surfing the net, or as I did most days when I was in the cabin, accessing a wide selection of classical music. They also had news, movies and documentaries to pick from too. Roxanne, our cabin stewardess kept our room in tip top shape. Additionally, the ship was impeccably clean from bow to stern. The crew members were very friendly, helpful and eager to meet every request. Because this is a riverboat with a passenger capacity of about 140, and with a crew of 45, there always were crew members everywhere we turned. The food on the AmaLyra was delicious and well presented. The Executive Chef on our cruise, Bogdan Draghici, was serving as executive chef for the first time ever on our cruise having just recently been promoted. Many evenings he came around to our table near the end of dinner service with a special extra treat or just to make sure we enjoyed our dinner. AmaWaterways offers an extensive menu of choices, with a Chef’s Recommendation featured each evening. Most evenings the Chef’s Recommendation sounded so enticing that we ordered it precisely as it was presented. But it was easy to make other selections as well. Breakfast is a very ample buffet with many choices, including hot prepared foods, an omelette bar, cereals, breads and pastries, and other more European-style choices such as meats and cheeses to choose from. We also could order Eggs Benedict – which my husband indulged in most mornings -- poached eggs and a few other breakfast selections cooked to order. Lunch was a buffet with other selections available from the galley. Most days there was a theme and we especially enjoyed the Normandy themed luncheon with fresh mussels served in a savory and delicious mustard sauce with fresh baked French bread served on the side to soak up the sauce. Also, I need to mention that each day for lunch and dinner there was a featured soup. Soup is a great specialty for AmaWaterways. Bogdan our executive chef explained to us, when I complimented him on how delicious every soup was, that the line has many special soup recipes and a secret to their success is the amount of time they take in blending the ingredients. All I can say is that every soup was tres bon! Complementing each lunch and dinner were complimentary beer and wine pairings – sparkling wine at breakfast too if you would like! There were many excellent selections of wine to choose from and the pours were very generous. Some of the vintages presented included a Blanc de Camarsac, which paired well with the numerous seafood selections offered; a nice Chateau Malager; a Chateau Belle Cure from Bordeaux, and a I’Ombe des Fontaines from the Rhone River region. We also tried a Bourgonge Aligote from Bordeaux and Beaujolais-Villages from the Beaujolais region. A 6-Eme Sens, Pays Blanc was featured at the Welcome Dinner the first evening along with a Les Collines Cote du Rhone. Again, the pours were generous and our glasses always kept filled by Anton, our favorite waiter. AmaWaterways also offers a Chef’s Tasting dinner with numerous small platings to sample along with paired wines. We booked our tasting dinner for an evening that we were sailing during dinner time – as opposed to being docked in a port -- which turned out to be a scenic delight as well as a gastronomic treat. The Chef’s Tasting restaurant is located at the stern (back) of the ship so we had some nice views as well as the opportunity to see the ship enter one of the many lochs along the Seine and experience the change in levels of the river before sailing smoothly on. Sailing on an intimate river cruise in many ways is like being with family. Our captain, Geoffrey Masson, was gracious and warm and well supported by his staff of Alioscia, the hotel manager; Kinga, the purser; Varu, the Maitre d’Hotel; and Anca, the first cabin stewardess. Captain Geoffrey was gracious and even invited my husband, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and an airline pilot to visit him on the bridge for a ‘behind the scenes’ look. And I can’t say enough about Nick, our cruise manager, who was warm, welcoming and on the spot whenever needed. He was so gracious and knowledgeable about every port and tour. Most evenings we all met in the spacious and comfortable lounge prior to dinner. Nick would share with us information we needed to know about the evening entertainment and the next day’s events before we went downstairs to the dining room. All the crew work especially hard, but Nick has to always be ‘on’ and I know that he was up early in the morning and still at it late in the evening. Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Salina, the fitness instructor on board the AmaLyra. Several mornings we went on fitness walks with her, which were a great way to start the day and to burn some extra calories from all of the fine dining and wine we were indulging in each day. Selina is a tri-athlete who was hired by AmaWaterways to create a fitness program to encourage the line’s guests to be more active and healthy. She holds several classes a day and also is available to work with guests one-on-one. She is a great ambassador for AmaWaterways in this role! Regarding tours, AmaWaterways includes port tours in the cost of your cruise. This is an outstanding value, as we have been on other ocean cruises, including one last year with Oceania, where the port tours were additional and ended up adding over $1,500 to the cost of the cruise for my husband and I. In most ports, there were several tour options to select from. We toured Claude Monet’s home in Giverny where we saw his beautiful gardens and the water lily ponds he built and painted so often; the U.S. beaches – Omaha and Utah – in Normandy and the American Cemetery; the quaint seaside town of Honfleur; Rouen, where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake; Les Andelys where we hiked to the top of Chateau Gaillard; and Conflans where we toured Josephine and Napoleon Bonaparte’s Chateau Malmaison. The tour guides were all so very friendly, spoke fluent English and provided great insights and details to each venue we toured. One last surprise of the cruise was the enjoyable experience of meeting so many interesting and personable fellow passengers. Our first evening for dinner, the Maitre ‘d asked if we wanted to be seated at a romantic table for two or did we wish to meet some new people? We opted for the latter for that dinner and for dinner each subsequent evening. We met some wonderful people with whom we had great camaraderie, shared fun stories and laughs and made new friends, including our new friends Gilles and Diane from Quebec. This for me, was really and truly the highlight of the intimate riverboat cruising experience. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our AmaWaterways cruise and look forward to sailing with them again in the future! #amawaterways Read Less

We choose this cruise as a better reward and adventure to ourselves. Viking did most of the logistical planning including air flights, meeting us at the airport, bringing us to the ship, along with many other niceties that impressed us so very much. Each meal was excellent, service again excellent the staff and crew also excellent. The ports and excursions were well planned and went without a hitch, thoughtfully and engineered to make the trip an enjoyable pleasure. Our cabin was clean, well maintained, comfortable along with the patio. The air conditioning was very good as was the TV. We certainly had a good time meeting and socializing with other guests at dinner and other activities in the ship and on deck. Our excursions were handled with us, the guests, in mind, water was freely given for each trip the buses used were the best. We were fortunate that this trip was chosen by us and Viking River Cruises certainly exceeded our expectations, Thank you Viking. Read Less

My husband and I have traveled extensively and this cruise by far has been the best experience to date. The AmaLyra made us feel like we were in a five star floating hotel. Our cabin was spacious, nicely appointed and the shower was large for a river boat. The wifi was excellent and they have a flatscreen TV with a computer in your cabin along with umbrellas. The ship was spotless and the service impeccable. Every member of the crew was friendly, helpful and put customer service first. The food and wine pairings were excellent, the excursions interesting and the entertainment great. A nice touch was returning from an excursion to a moist towel and a refreshing beverage. On this particular voyage AmaWaterways added a fitness director who offered runs, walks, yoga and core classes a great addition to the cruise. If you are looking for a river cruise you will not be disappointed with Ama. A great value. We are looking forward to our next sailing. Read Less

We had been on a river cruise before with another company and very much enjoyed this kind of experience which you cannot get on an ocean cruise. We were not disappointed this time around. From the shuttle service which took us to the airport from a hotel in Paris (only four of us in the bus!), we knew we were in the hands of a company that was intent on providing first class service. The food was divine - for lovers of seafood this cruise is a paradise! Snails, mussels, and oysters on the last day! - the wine flowed freely, the staff were super-hospitable and attentive, the shore excursions were well-organized with several options for each venue depending on interest and the level of fitness of the travelers. The cruise director, Helene, is perhaps the greatest asset of this ship, so effervescent, funny and enthusiastic, that I don't think there was a soul on ship who didn't fall in love with her! Add to that the unique pleasure of a river cruise, where you can relax and appreciate the beauty of the scenery along the way and where the small number of passsengers - we were less than 100, I believe - creates a more friendly and intimate atmosphere which enables you to make friends more easily. And of course the beauty of Normandy and of Paris, for those like us who decided to extend our trip by a few days. I cannot think of anything negative to say about this cruise other than the fact it was over too soon! We will definitely go with AMA Waterways on more river cruises, perhaps next time to Vietnam and Cambodia. Read Less

Lunch from the menu and salad buffet with wine and beer selections was also excellent. The dinner offers were always excellent and it was usually wise to select the chefs suggestions. The evening briefings a on what to expect for the next day were always information and it is recommended that you attend. The entertainment was limited, but the all participant were were very enjoyable. I am 65, newly retired, and had never been to Paris, so decided this was the perfect time. I couldn't find anyone to go with me since I decided in March to go in June, but Viking was offering a really good single supplement fare. I opted for the pre-extension trip to Paris, three days, and it was fabulous even if *quite* hot. Here there was no help as far as the hotel single supplement; I had to pay for both people which made the hotel quite expensive. Still, I really wanted the extra time in the city. Most of the people I ended up hanging out with during the cruise were those who also did the Paris add-on as we got to know each other then. The cruise was really nice with good stops. The only thing I wish we could have done was go to St. Malo. It's far, I know, but I really, really want to go there and I was so close. Giverney was jam packed with people. It was hard to really enjoy the gardens for all the people. My favorite village was Petite Andelys. The hike to the castle at the top is a true hike. I thought we should have stopped a couple times instead of just once for everyone to catch their breath. But it's the village itself I liked so much, not the castle. It's just beautiful! The light and sound show at the Rouen cathedral was incredible and a highlight of the trip. Read Less

We were a party of eight traveling with our family and friends. Our special pleasure was traveling with our eighteen and fourteen-year-old granddaughters that made our trip so wonderful. We particularly enjoyed the beauty of Paris and how wonderfully we were treated by the French people. The excursions to the towns and beaches of Normandy were so moving, we really appreciated what our soldiers as well as the allies did to stop Hitler's tyranny in Europe. Our visit to Giverny and Monet's Garden was much more than we ever expected, living pictures of what we have seen on his canvas. The ship was beautiful, the crew could not be more accommodating, especially the husband and wife team who were the Executive Chef and Maîtres d'. We also would like to give praise to the Hotel Manager, the Cruise Manager, our tour guides and the food servers for their dedicated work. The food of course was fabulous! Excursions were so interesting and full of knowledgeable information. After the cruise ended, we opted to spend some post-cruise days in the Loire valley. Was so worth it!! This was our third cruise with Viking...and each one has been superb. Excellent accommodations, fantastic food, diverse and entertaining places to go, see and do. Viking caters to adult travelers... so don't expect to see young children. There have been several teens on our trips who were well educated and well spoken. We have enjoyed their company. My wife has limited ability to walk, so we travel with a light-weight transporter chair. It was very easy to use the chair on board. The crew assisted every time in getting on and off the ship. The chair was difficult, but possible, in some locations because of cobble stone pavement. At our request, we had a cabin just off the reception area. In that way, we didn't have long walks, or pushes of the wheel chair, to get to and from the cabin. The skipper was the most helpful of any we have experienced. He took a personal approach, greeting folks each time we departed and when we returned. He regularly helped passengers... often passed out water or refreshments. Read Less

My husband and I went on this cruise with another couple. We spent 2 days in Paris before embarking. We were worried that the boat would seem too small, that we would feel "trapped" and that we wouldn't want to be going on so many tours - but none of that was a problem. The boat is a very good size, plenty of places to sit and relax. Our favorite days were when we were cruising in the afternoon and could sit outside on the upper deck and watch the countryside go by. The boat is very quiet and stable. You can barely tell that you are moving. The room wasn't big, but the bed was very comfortable and there is plenty of storage. The crew kept in very clean - checking in twice a day. The service was excellent. All levels of staff were attentive and charming. The crew director was especially delightful and hilarious. He made the mandatory port meetings fun. Breakfast and dinner buffets were plentiful with almost anything you want to eat available. Dinner every night was fantastic, three full courses with several choices. A few nights there were "special" dinners involving five courses. There was a very fun cooking demonstration onboard also. Entertainment onboard was adequate after dinner. Most people went back to their rooms. We enjoyed every tour we took. We fully expected to opt out of some, but everyday we learned so much, we decided to go again the next day! Our favorites were Rouen and the optional trip to Honfleur. I would have liked another day in Rouen - not enough time to visit any museums or do much shopping. Otherwise, we really enjoyed the schedule. I would definitely go on another cruise with Avalon. I could tell that meticulous attention was paid to the wines that were paired with the evening meals. We chose this cruise because of the two primary locations of Paris and Prague, two cities we had not visited previously. As our first river cruise, we were extremely impressed with the organization of the timeline. Everything exceeded our expectations from the service, the size of our cabin and the overall views from the ship. The crew was exceptional! They all made an effort to learn our names quickly and made us feel like we were VIP's. As two of the younger passengers we did feel that the excursions were a bit too slow, but we understood why. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. The ship was modern and very well maintained. Our cabin was much larger than we anticipated having been on several ocean cruises, it was exceptionally comfortable. The overall dinning experience was good. The food was tasty and we felt full, but not uncomfortably stuffed. The dinning service improved each day. We thought that the breakfast buffet was a bit crowded due to the set-up area, there just wasn't much room to maneuver around people. The evening entertainers were entertaining, but we enjoyed the crew show more than anything. They really went out of their way to have a good time. We truly enjoyed the happy hour option every evening. Although prices were within a reasonable range, the happy hour prices rocked! It would be nice if happy hour actually lasted more than an hour. TIPS - this is the only thing that annoyed us. Considering what we paid for the cruise we truly feel that the gratuity should have been included. If a crew member went above and beyond, we should have the options of paying extra. No children join us on the cruise and their were no children on board...thank goodness! We definitely plan on river cruising again and with Avalon if the company offers the locations we're wanting to visit. Read Less

We took the Viking Cities of Light cruise from Paris to Prague. Initially, I must say that Viking's logistics were incredible. From picking us up at de Gaulle, to getting us to the airport in Prague, and everything in between, they were great. Although we took the cruise for the beginning and end, the middle ports and cruising the Seine through all of the castles was just as good as the two ends. In Paris, The hotel Pullman Eiffel Tower was ok, although the hotel concierge gave us incorrect information several times, and the elevators malfunctioned frequently. We picked up 4 day museum passes (at Les Invalides), rode the metro, and did as much as we could in 4 days averaging upper 90s in temperature. The best thing about the passes was skipping the lines at the Louvre and Versailles. The Opera House and LÓrangie were my highlights of Paris. The cruise itself was very nice. The cruise themes were castles and wine. The cabin was fine; river cruise cabins tend to be small, and very well appointed. It had the best cabin shower (except for aqua class on Celebrity) that we have had. Laundry service was exceptional, fast and not too expensive. The people who worked on the ship were very nice. The beverage dispensers for coffee, tea and water were really nice and convenient. Food was inconsistent. Some (like the German dinner) was very good, some OK. There were some strange combinations. All in all, it was just fine. Dinner service was generally fine, but sometimes a bit indifferent. Breakfasts were very good with excellent service. Free internet was a nice perk. It was ok, just what we expected. We were able to do some work. We also had to make a couple of cell phone calls, and those were fine. I had read some mixed reviews of Susi, the cruise director. On our cruise, she was very visible, engaging, competent and funny. Her daily presentations of what to expect the next day were excellent. The narration as we proceeded down the Seine, past the castles, was terrific. Did you know, Louis XIV of France sacked most of the German castles in that area in 1789? The class on speaking German was amusing and informative. She made other presentations too, but these are good examples. We observed Susi having lunch or drinks with passengers. She worked hard and did a good job. The shore excursions were mixed, some good, some so so. My main comment is that I wish Viking offered tours for those who walk a bit faster and can do a bit more than some others. I understand you can only offer so many options, but we would have enjoyed something just a bit more active. I also understand that we are a bit young for what appears to be the typical Viking passenger, and that we really like to see a lot on our trips. Would we do another cruise with Viking? You bet we would. It was a terrific vacation. Read Less

I chose Uniworld as I had had wonderful experiences with 1 Avalon cruise ship and 2 APT cruise ships in the past.I still think that River Cruising is the only way to travel. I caught a cold whilst travelling on APT and cannot speak more highly of the staff attention I received. My suite was turned into a hospital room with fresh juice, constant care, change of linen and meals delivered to my room - all with a smile from the helpful friendly staff. The Captain even took me to the Doctor in Avignon where the Cruise director was waiting to translate for me as I do not speak French. Sadly, although Uniworld provided a wonderful experience on my Paris to Normandy River cruise with the most beautiful suite, delicious food, comfort and friendliness I must advise other solo cruisers of my terrible experience with Uniworld. While on a Walking tour of Paris 25 July,2015 as part of the Uniworld cruise, I was injured as I attempted to board the RATP train at the Concorde Station and the Conductor closed the doors too soon. I was trapped by my right arm and leg, screaming for help and the Tour Guide stood petrified and did not help me at all! If it wasn't for the clear headed thinking of two Parisian men who tore the doors open, I would had my limbs amputated when the train that was revving up and about to start dragged me along the Railway station! Although I had 6 months treatment for the injury and am still suffering from the side effects of these injuries, Uniworld ignored my plight on the day and has continued to refuse to take any responsibility what so ever. As a solo traveller I was deserted when I needed the help of Uniworld. It is one thing providing a beautiful ship, food etc. but when the unthinkable happens there should be someone to take care of you if you are travelling alone. Read Less

Viking was offering a fantastic deal for this cruise; two for one fares plus cancel up to the day before departure with a full refund (Viking no longer offers the full refund; believe it was due to events in Europe/France at the time). The cruise was phenomenal; we hadn't been on a river cruise and it was on our bucket list. Viking also offered air fare for an extremely reasonable price. The ship was placed into service earlier this year and was very elegant from the lobby/atrium to the lounge (light and airy - a good place to "get away"), to the dining facilities (great views from all seats) to the cabins. The cabins were smaller that what we've experienced on ocean cruises, but was spacious enough for the journey and we had a French balcony, which allowed us to open the floor to ceiling window (similar to sliding doors). The food was excellent and there were several selections plus a standard menu available each night. At breakfast and lunch you had the option of the buffet or ordering from the menu (the pancakes were amazing). The servers became well acquainted with you and treated you well; they spoke very good English, and could converse in multiple languages. The staff was extremely professional, but able to joke and have conversations with you. Viking really tries to accommodate dietary restrictions/preferences. My husband and his brother got an impromptu tour of the navigation bridge from the First Officer, simply by asking the question. Excursions are included for each port, with some having additional excursions to purchase, such as the Paris + Louvre, Versailles, and Paris by Night - all were worth the extra cost. The local walking tours were informative about the regions. We like the fact that Viking doesn't nickel and dime you for everything; wine and beer are included with lunch and dinner; free wi-fi, complimentary water in cabin and for each excursion; complimentary umbrellas for inclement weather; complimentary coffee/tea service outside the lounge 24 hours. After a damp/chilly day at the Normandy Beaches, the ship greeted us with "Happy Hot Chocolate" on our return to the ship. The ship docks in Le Pecq, which is about 35-45 min from Paris via shuttle (Viking provided, free). Our transfer from the airport to the ship was flawless and easy; departure from the ship was easy, however the airport part was hectic, hurried, and we almost got lost/left behind. The woman greeting the group at the airport left for the check-in area before getting all the passengers and their luggage. She provided no instructions and practically raced to the check-in area - something to be aware of. The other impressive part of Viking is that everyone on the ship works; my sister-in-law saw the captain assisting with loading luggage from the ship. The Program Director did this as well and accompanied us on all excursions. There is only a walking track on the upper deck. Read Less

Our second Viking river cruise, Danube was first. Excelled beyond the first one, which was outstanding. Had to visit France and the Normandy countryside. From start to finish, Viking lived up to its claims. Crew was remarkable. Fun, professional, cheerful, untiring service. Easy transfer, informative excursions, all the right places, best guides. Meals were excellent on board. We purchased a beverage package that was worth the cost. More wine selections, and off hour bar service. Upon return we booked a Med cruise for March. Music during cocktail hour, diner and evening cruising was one of the highlights of our cruise. The friend we made among fellow passengers made day to day travel a joy. Cabin size for our Veranda A and deck location was perfect for us, quiet, easy to lounge and upper deck. Our extended stay in Paris kept us busy sunrise to late evening. Hotel was comfortable and caring. We will continue on with Viking. Read Less
